I don't think that's really doubling somebody's salary. It tells
me these guys are working a lot of long, hard hours.
How did you begret to be back on with you?
And you're exactly right. No. Look, you got to remember
I lived the last four years here on the US

Mexican border. I'm a lifetime resident of the US Mexican border,
and over the last four years, if it was for
Governor Abbott sending Highway Patrol troopers down the border, it
would have been a lot different. But you're right, they
didn't just get the money because they were troopers. They
were down here working. They were away from home, they
were from their families and putting in the hours, and

we were grateful to have them here on the US
Mexican border. Again, that is Cleveland, the Terrell County Sheriffs

I guess some people might ask the question, well, should
we just maybe be hiring more dps in order to
be able to not have to have so much over time,
which which is more cost effective to pay overtime or

to hire more people. Well, you know, it likely to
pay more overtime rather than than you know, a career
of salaries and benefits and things like that if you
wanted to get down to the nitty gritty. But but look,
there's constantly hiring people, not just at DPS, but you
see what bar Patrol and Ice is doing as well.
You know that there is a short pall of people

to go down and work in these areas and in
some of these law enforcement jobs because of what we've
seen over the last four years, not just an open border,
but also you know, making law enforcement out to be
the bad guys. Again. The work these these troopers do
is tremendous. We were glad to have their support and
and some of them didn't make that over time because

(01:46):
just like when I was a young border trajan, I
wanted to work as much over time as I could.
And you know, you knew the guys who would worked
in some of the troopers had been or border trades
that they'd been in longer, they may not have worked it,
and they can give it to the younger guys. So
you know, you're going to you're gonna see that spike,
and some people and others not as much. In bottom line,
how effective was it up? One hundred percent effective. Look,

worm chill agents were tied up processing the masses that
were coming in down an Eagle pass over in Deale,
Reil up and out passo which left wide swaths and
I'm talking about one hundreds of miles wide open. And
then again that's where your your state troopers came in,
your local law enforcement that that applied for the operation
Loans Start and were able to backfill some of those
spots on the line and catch people that were being

smoked across the border or away from the border. Good
