Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, so it's news Radio seven forty k t
(00:01):
H Chris Crocket.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
For Jimmy Barrett, and now we have the pleasure of
interviewing Tom Ramsey, Precinct three commissioner in Harris County, the
only no vote for SEP. Four and seventy grand to
go to sponsor the Gay Softball World Series. Tom Ramsey,
thanks for joining us on these radio seven forty k
t H. Chris Crocket for Junior Barrett.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Good to be here, Chris, thank you, You're welcome.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
By the way, I'm in Dallas County and we used
to have one loan Republican commissioner. You are a lonely
man over there, well, not with your constituents, but with
sitting in that commissioners, quite, aren't you.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Well it does on occasion, but you know most, I
think a large majority of the people in Harris County
believe that we should not do wasteful spending, particularly this
time and this budget, because of our challenges I think
from a cup from a spending standpoint. So we've been
working for the last two or three weeks trying to
(00:56):
figure out where we can eliminate spending we don't need
to do and what you reference is exactly that.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
So you know what else four hundred and seventy grand,
almost five hundred grand a gay softball tournament.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
What else could this money go towards?
Speaker 2 (01:14):
I mean, I understand it might have to be towards
something that generates revenue or tourism or something of that nature,
and you know more than I do, But what else
could it go to? I mean, I wish you could
go to law enforcement to get more people on the streets.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Well, I'll just use the example of what I was
involved with using these same kind of funds. I went
out to one of our parks. We have seventy three
parks in Precinct three. I went out to one of
our parks where we do have youth fields, athletic fields,
and we use a similar amount of money to build
(01:49):
some facilities there, restrooms, concession stands, those sorts of things.
And the way I look at it, that's going to
be there for decades, that's going to be there for
the next twenty thirty forty years. And I think that's
how we use our funds. Something that's going to be
beneficial for twenty thirty forty years, not tan or twenty days.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
You know, Here's what drives me or got me thinking.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Tom, I'm in Dallas Conness and mentioned we had the
Gay Software World Series two three years ago, and I don't.
I'm in the news media, I'm in the talk radio business.
I don't remember this. They're like, oh, it would be
a sixteen million dollar impact. Do you think that's actually
accurate with that? Are they going to create that have
an impact for the Gay World Series softball stuff? Well?
Speaker 3 (02:36):
It might. I mean you could start, you could start
counting those. It may or it may not. My only
point is I don't think the county should be doing it.
I really don't. And when we take these kinds of
funds in twenty twenty five, in the context of this
year where we have challenges with our budget, this is
(02:58):
not how we should be spending our money in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Tom Ramsey, Precinct three Commissioner from Harris County, thank you
very much for joining us this morning on news radio
seven forty KH.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
Thank you
