Speaker 1 (00:00):
Six point two. Now Here on Houston's Morning News, we're
joined by Congressman Troy Nails to talk about Charlie Kirk
here this morning. I'd like to start with this Congressman,
because I'm hearing a lot of political rhetoric coming out
of Washington, d C. The left, of course, is talking
about guns and trying to find somebody else to blame

(00:21):
this on. Like like what they say at MSNBC, they
wondered whether or not maybe a MAGA supporting Charlie Kirk
fan might might have who wasn't familiar with guns had
accidentally shot off a gun. I mean, that's the most
one of the most preposterous things ever said on live television.
But I think it's a whole lot deep. I don't

(00:41):
know what you think, but I think it's a whole
lot deeper than this. It's it's more than just political rhetoric.
It's more about left versus right. It is a situation
here where I believe that we have people who are
being specifically targeted for the purpose of getting the rest
of us to shut the hell up.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Yeah, I mean, just another very sad day, another very
sad day in our country. The political discourse you know,
in our country certainly has taken a turn for the worst,
with what you saw with Charlie Kirk yesterday, with even
what you saw a here ago with President Trump and Butler,
the incident in Minnesota, with the murder of those state

(01:20):
officials up there, the extreme violence that we see across
our country. It's not, you know, on a weekly basis anymore.
It almost seems to be taking place on a daily basis.
The notion that we as a country, can you know,
the end of the old you should be able to agree,
to disagree and walk away with a handshake. We are
losing focus on that. It's just it's a very the

(01:42):
water is very hot right now, and we have to
find a way to simmer and and you know, teach
our young people and to anybody that violence is not
the answer to this, that we should be able to
have meaningful dialogue. And that's what we do know about
Charlie Kirk is that he was very effective reaching out
to our younger people across these college campuses in our country.

(02:03):
Very effective at it.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Well, that's what made him such a big target, don't.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
You think, Well, he you know, he it was a mission.
He made it very well known that he was focusing
on college campuses. It was a mission of his. He
wanted to have this meaningful debate, some political in nature
and some not, you know, and he reached the younger generation.
He was engaging them on debate and issue is important

(02:29):
to our country. He was very popular, as you said,
and people knew him, and he was effective and he
was I believe that on these college campuses is that's
where the young minds need to be stimulated. On these
college campuses. And you watch his videos, watch his videos,
I think they were very, very, very rewarding. I think

(02:49):
he was very effective. And one thing that we do
know we got is that he was a very faithful man.
He loved Jesus Christ. He was very very a man
of faith, very strong in his faith.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Do you think there's somebody who can fill the void.
I think that's probably the biggest concern. Certainly not he
started turning point. But he's not the only one there.
I'm sure they're going to try to continue the mission.
The question is who can step in? Are there ten
twenty thirty more Charlie Kirks out there that can can
can answer his assassination with continuing to put even more

(03:25):
information and pressure on the left.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Well, you would hope there are, but you have to
look at you know, when you're out there talking individuals
and the with the environment today. I mean they said
they had what twenty five hundred people? There are maybe
three thousand people. It was a student courtyard. I guess
the police officials said they had six campus officers. And
then I guess Charlie had his own little, small, little

(03:48):
detail that would probably keep people, you know, at least
arn links away from him. And you had a rifle
from two hundred yards away. Nobody's in custody right now.
Is concerning, And I don't know, I mean, who's going
to want to take on that responsibility of thinking, you know,
can I protect myself? Should? Will I be able to

(04:10):
feel secure and have a meaningful debate with twenty five
hundred you know, young people at a college campus. I
don't know who would want to do it. Look at Congress,
where many of us aren't even holding town halls because
of the violence that we've seen. As it relates to
political discourse, well you know what those sad day in
America is it really is, you.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Know what those than the left wins, then they win.
If they can scare if they can scare Congress from
holding a town hall, if they can scare other people
from going on and speaking at college campuses, the left wins.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Well, you're not silencing many of us. I guess. The
fact of the matter is is that is that when
you have these organizations that are very well funded and
very well organized, from George Sois and others, going out
there and disrupting some of the these political events, whether
they're town halls or something, I mean, we have to

(05:04):
find a way to put a stop to it. We
have to find a way, and it's going to require resources.
I mean, I said to some members yesterday, at some
point in time, it's going to happen to a member
of Congress. It's going to happen. And then what's the
country's reaction to that.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Well, we're going to have to continue to fight back.
That's all I know. Congressman, I got to go, but
thank you so much for your time. As always, it
is representative Troy Nails. It's six twenty seven
