This is US Radio seven forty kt RH Houston Live Everywhere.
What's happening now, the latest news, weather and traffic. It's
more of what matters to you. From the John Morris
Services Studios.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
It is five am on Houston's Morning News. Good morning,
I'm Jimmy Barrett. Among our top stories this half our
Trump is banning cashless bail at Obama point he says
kill Mark Garcia cannot be shipped to Uganda. And coming
up at five oh eight, it was like finding a
time capsule from nineteen seventeen. Details in the minutes ahead.
You're at Houston's Moorning News. First, we're gonna check out

(00:38):
the drive sky. Mike's still on vacation. Gary mackin for him.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
And good morning to you. We've been busy out there already.
First is Sugarland sixty ninety Southwest Freeway northbound. It's Sweetwater,
just reopened a few minutes ago after being closed for
a crash a good while. Still have some residual backup.
A similar situation all the sixteen West.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
Look.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
This one's southbound. It's sixty ninety Southwest Freeway. A major
act accident cleared as well. May have something else on
sixty ninety Southwest Freeway northbound around Fannin. I'll keep an
eye out Gary Mack at the USA Rvresorts dot Com
Traffic Center.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
From our KTRH top tax Defenders twenty four hour Weather
Center Partlakladi this morning. Scattered storms this afternoon, with the
high temperature today right about ninety three, we'll get to
the complete forecast. Dry Smith that the Weather Channel will
talk to her about nine minutes. Right now, it is
seventy six at your official severe weather station, News Radio
seven forty k TRH. Time Now for the news. Here's Cliffsonders.

Speaker 5 (01:34):
Thank you, Jimmy.

Speaker 6 (01:34):
It's five oh one on KTRH, our top story this morning.

Speaker 7 (01:38):
You burn a flag, you get one year in jail.
You don't get ten years. You don't get one month,
you get one year in jail. Cashless fail, We're ending it.

Speaker 6 (01:46):
President Trump yesterday in the White House signing several executive orders.
The cash list bail order, a direct hit at blue
cities with soft on crime judges.

Speaker 8 (01:56):
It's a really foundational reason that we've had this explosion
of crime every where.

Speaker 9 (02:00):
We've had these extreme policies.

Speaker 6 (02:02):
California gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton on Fox. The mainstream media
hates Trump's takeover of DC, but fifty four percent till
the Harvard poll they support the move. That number includes
nearly half of the independent voters in about thirty percent
of Democrats.

Speaker 5 (02:20):
It's now five oh two and.

Speaker 6 (02:21):
Obama appointed federal judge has blocked the Trump administration from
deporting Kilmar Abrego Garcia after his arrest yesterday. DHS Secretary
Christy Domes says, it's more judicial obstruction.

Speaker 10 (02:35):
These Democrats and the liberals stand beside him, They sing
for him, They chant for him to be released so
that he can perpetuate more crimes on our communities.

Speaker 6 (02:44):
That is know him with ktrh Sean Hannity. Meantime, the
left has another illegal alien to get behind, the truck
driver who killed three people this month in Florida. Governor
Ron DeSantis just shakes his head in amazement.

Speaker 11 (02:57):
That driver made the decision to behave in a reckless
fashion and to put other people at risk, and in Florida,
there's consequences for that.

Speaker 6 (03:06):
The petition started by the left calling for Florida to
show leniency has now gotten almost three million signatures. That
trucker got a CDL in California where they don't ask
about your legal status. So what about here in Texas
and illegal alien truck drivers.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
And specifically do we have them?

Speaker 9 (03:25):
I think you.

Speaker 12 (03:26):
Do and not the amounts that are probably purported.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
That is johnas Sparza, President and CEO of the Texas
Trucking Association.

Speaker 12 (03:35):
The good news is Texas has enacted laws recently to
help us in this area. But rather unfortunately other states.
You're seeing a pulifarrapen of that in other states.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
And because of that, law enforcement here in Texas is
allowed to crack down on illegal alien truck drivers. Jeff
Biggs News Radio seven forty k t H.

Speaker 5 (03:57):
It is now five oh four in Austin. Texas.

Speaker 6 (04:00):
Governor Greg Avid adds more items to the second special
session agenda. One would ban same day voter registration. Another
would allow police to sign outside contracts for law enforcement services.
Now that redistricting is passed, lawmakers are working to crack
down on abortion pills that pro life groups say are
being mailed to Texas women.

Speaker 13 (04:21):
Somebody wants to take it for something else, that's their business.

Speaker 14 (04:24):
And several states have gone so far as to past
measures shielding rogue actors and ignoring our state laws allowing
these deadly pills to come in.

Speaker 6 (04:32):
That's Ashley Leonards with Texas Right to Life. The bill
is set for a vote today in the state Senate
and allows for private lawsuits against out of state providers.
Five years after the left melted down over the use
of ivermectin to treat some COVID patients, state lawmakers are
moving to expand the drug expand access to the drug.

(04:52):
Writer and medical doctor Brian Jundev says, ivermectin is an
FDA approved medicine that's been used for decades to fight
parasitic infection.

Speaker 13 (05:01):
Somebody wants to take it for something else, that's their business,
and it's not a dangerous or harmful drug. I'm not
aware of reports of people overdosing on it or suffering
harm because of it, so I think it's a smart
move and keeping with other states and other countries.

Speaker 5 (05:15):
The governor also added this issue to the special session agenda.
It's now five zero five.

Speaker 6 (05:20):
Dow futures are down seventy one points this morning after
the President fired Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. This is
over allegations of fraud. She's accused of lying on mortgage
applications by declaring two primary residences. The Fed could cut
interest rates next month after the questionable numbers that we
got in the July jobs reports.

Speaker 15 (05:42):
July unemployment numbers were below estimates and there was a
huge revision in the prior two months by about a
quarter million jobs. The results virtually no net new jobs
in the past three months, So the Fed is expected
to drop interest rates when it meets September sixteenth. Kr
H money Man patchin.

Speaker 16 (06:01):
Now that downside of that, it would be very likely
that long term interest rates will move higher, which affects
home loans.

Speaker 15 (06:09):
But it's complicated. This doesn't mean homes will be easier
to buy. Mike Shiloh News Radio seven forty KRH.

Speaker 5 (06:16):
It is now five oh six.

Speaker 6 (06:18):
This week marks the eighth anniversary of when Harvey, which
was then a tropical storm that hit Houston, causing massive
flooding and death. So how would we fare against a
similar storm? That depends largely on how well we prepare.

Speaker 17 (06:32):
If you haven't done some things to make it so
that your phone your radio is able to receive a message.

Speaker 5 (06:37):
That doesn't really help.

Speaker 17 (06:38):
And then if you're not prepared to actually take action
steps based on those warnings. Those issues are very much
in the hands of our resident.

Speaker 6 (06:44):
Ryan Murray with the Harris County Office of Emergency Management. Now,
we told you last week there's a bill in Austin
to take control of the County flood Controlled District from
Commissioner's Court because of how the Democrat majority has handled
flood mitigation projects. The Astros host Colorado tonight pregame at
six on Sports Talk seven ninety the game at seven
on seven ninety and KTRH. The Stros lead to Mariners

(07:08):
by a game and a half in the Al West.
I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's News Weather in traffic station
News Radio seven forty k TRH.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Houston's morning News continues with Jimmy Barrett.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
All Right, little time capsule got well opened up. I
guess don't Actually, you don't want to open this time capsule.
You found the time capsule, this leave alone because it
might explode. Yep, they turned up. I get digging in
the area of Memorial Park. Just outside of Memorial Park,
they find an artillery shell vintage World War One. So

(07:48):
what in the world was that? What is a World
War One artillery shell? Doing just west of Memorial Park. Well,
that's when the fund starts. That's when you start digging
up the history. What used to be there is something
called Camp Logan. Camp Logan took up most of Memorial Park,
if not all of it, and even bigger part of

(08:10):
got turned into Memorial Park. They camp closed in nineteen nineteen.
It was active between nineteen seventeen and nineteen nineteen. They
had a riot there in nineteen seventeen. Evidently there were
black troops training at this facility and they got into
it with the white troops and there was almost a
riot that occurred. And actually think they made a movie

(08:32):
about that once. But let's get back to the other
part of the history here. This artillery shell. Now I
don't know how things are normally done in training camps,
but you'd like to think that. You know, you don't
leave live artillery shells just laying around. You pick up
after yourself. What is a live artillery shell doing there?

(08:54):
And how has it been undiscovered for over one hundred years?
That camp has been closed for one hundred and six
years and nobody ever found it before, which of course
makes you wonder are there more? Is there anything else
we might run into. Here's the report from our television

(09:14):
partner KPRC too.

Speaker 18 (09:16):
This unexpected discovery happened around noon today. That unexploded World
War One era artillery shell and a fenced off and
hard to access area here at Memorial Park, which is
the former site of Camp Logan, in a wooded area
of Memorial Park Monday.

Speaker 5 (09:31):
Well, we first saw just a bunch of lights and sirens.

Speaker 18 (09:33):
Brock and his wife heard the law enforcement response to
a work crew's unusual discovery.

Speaker 19 (09:38):
It looked like an old, rusty, small piece of a cylinder,
something sticking out of the bottom of it.

Speaker 18 (09:43):
HPD's bomb Squad responded to a call from a crew
working to clear underbrush after they found an unexploded World
War One era artillery shell too old and too dangerous
to move.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
It appeared to have to be possibly a live piece
of ordinance.

Speaker 18 (09:56):
Police shut down part of the park and cleared the
area before successfully detonating the decades old ordnance, which moved
just a bit of dirt.

Speaker 9 (10:04):
There's no crater or anything like that.

Speaker 20 (10:06):
It's kind of crazy, but not too surprising since this
used to be a camp.

Speaker 18 (10:10):
Logan formerly known as Camp Logan. More than seventy thousand
soldiers trained here starting in nineteen seventeen. It's now the
country's only not fully developed ex World War One training camp.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
I wouldn't be surpressed that find more. Oh well they might,
they'll still be digging in that area. Five to ten
type of little traffic and weather together. As we check
in once again with Gary Mack.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
All right, sixty ninety Southwest Freeway northbound around Fannin. That
is in fact an accident in the left lane. I've
got two to three minutes slow downs from Mandela Goose
Point also installed vehicle.

Speaker 5 (10:42):
We have one two.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
Eighty eight northbound on the exit. Orum at this one
not really slowing is down much. Gary Mack and the
Generator Supercenter dot.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
Com Traffic Center from r KTRH top tax Defenders twenty
four hour Whether Center. Terry Smith is here. But need
to give you the forecast, and it's more of the same.

Speaker 21 (10:59):
It is more the same.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
You're right.

Speaker 22 (11:02):
We have a little bit more rain though than what
we had yesterday. Today A thirty percent chance of those
showers and thunderstorms. Tomorrow and Thursday, well, tomorrow's a fifty
percent chance of thunderstorms and then the rest of the week,
mainly in the afternoon forty percent chance of getting wet.

Speaker 21 (11:18):
Temperatures are going to be just a.

Speaker 22 (11:20):
Little bit cooler for the next several days, in the
load to mid nineties through Friday.

Speaker 21 (11:26):
And then maybe even cooler. Still.

Speaker 22 (11:28):
There's some signs that by the end of this week
a coal front will actually help to drop the temperatures.
Right now, it looks like mid to upper eighties on Saturday.
Really yeah, really changing pace right now.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
Seventy six at your official severe weather station, News Radio
seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
It's Houston's Morning News, brought to you by New South
Windows Solutions. Now back to Jimmy Barris and the Houston
Morning News team all the info you need to take
on the day.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
For a whole variety of reasons, I don't really patronize
it's Disney anymore, but there used to be a time
where we went to Disney all the time. I used
to work for a station was actually owned by the
Disney Corporation, and we used to go there every time
they opened something up. So we were down there for
a while there. When they were building in Florida, they
had something new opening up all the time, like the
MGM studios and all that. So we go out for that,

(12:20):
but my favorite place to go was always Epcot Center.
Epcot Center to me was Disney World for adults. Jesse
Waters on the show last night was talking about how
the media is talking about Donald Trump is trying to
turn Washington, d C. Into Epcot Center, and I'm thinking

(12:40):
to myself, what would be wrong with that? Wouldn't that
be wouldn't that be ideal? More than that story? Coming
up next first though, at five twenty, bring on Gary
Mackey as an update on your drive.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Yeah, the crash sixty nine a southwest Freeway northbound at
Fan and we can clear that that's back at posted speeds,
although now we had another at southbound on I forty five,
the north three way approaching cross Tevers and that'll tack
on five and it's at least from Parker Road. Gary
mack int the Usaarvresorts dot.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
Com traffic Center from our KTRH top tax Defenders twenty
four hour weather center. Partly cloudie this morning, scattered storms
this afternoon. Looks like about ninety three for the high today.
Partly clouding, straight shower storm possible right about ninety tomorrow
and then Thursday, thirty percent chance of a nicely thundersorm
and the high temperature of ninety three. Current temperature is
seventy six at your official severe weather station, News Radio

(13:30):
seven forty. KTRH said, back to our newsroom now and
check in with Cliff.

Speaker 5 (13:34):
Thank you, Jimmy.

Speaker 6 (13:35):
We could have fireworks at Harris County Commissioner's Court today
over the proposed budget. The House Oversight Committee issues a
subpoena to the estate of Jeffrey Epstein for call logs
and the client list and Jimmy yet one more follow
up on that Michael Jordan Kobe Bryant card that sold
it auction for almost thirteen million bucks, but by Kevin O'Leary,

(13:57):
mister wonderful from Shark tak.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
He's got thirteen million dollars for trading cards.

Speaker 6 (14:03):
Have you seen the amount of watches that this guy
wears on a daily basis.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
I know he's got multiple multiple didn't know he had
money to burn.

Speaker 5 (14:11):
Well, mister O'Leary.

Speaker 6 (14:12):
My bank account number is Get the latest news anytime

Speaker 5 (14:17):
Our next update is at five.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
Thirty Pasadena Living clearly reliable KTRH Traffic and Weather.

Speaker 9 (14:24):
Next on the ten. So I like Epcot Tunner.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
That was always my favorite part of going to Disney
was Epcot Center. I just I found it fascinating. I
really liked it. It was like the city of the
future kind of thing, you know. Clean, that's the thing
you would always say you would never see it at
Disneyland or disney World. You don't see candy wrappers or
you know, fast food wrappers or I mean, everything is pristine,

(14:54):
and the thing is crazy about it. You don't even
see them removing the trash, you know, all that stuff
behind the scenes. So I'm imagining Washington, d C. With
all these pristine federal buildings and where it's safe to
walk and the parks are green and flowers are blooming,
and you're just you're kind of beaming a little bit

(15:16):
with pride that this is our nation's capital. That I
think is the vision that Trump hands. So if people
want to compare a Depcot Center, I don't care, fine
by me. Here's Jesse Waters on the show last night.

Speaker 23 (15:27):
Trump's turning d C into Disney World. That's not me
saying it. That's the media. Forty seven's molding d C
into his own personal Epcot. A political theme park where
troops keep the peace and the White House glitters like
mar A Lago.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
I took my kids to Epcot.

Speaker 9 (15:43):
It was clean, friendly and fun.

Speaker 24 (15:45):
Why would anyone be against that?

Speaker 9 (15:47):
With a little.

Speaker 23 (15:48):
Imagination and some pixie dust, Trump turned the Capitol into
the most magical place on earth.

Speaker 9 (15:54):
We actually arrested a total of well.

Speaker 24 (15:57):
Over one thousand people.

Speaker 25 (15:59):
We took hundreds of guns away from young kids that
were throwing them around like it was candy. As I said,
we've had zero murders in the last week, and some
of these people were from foreign countries. They said that
doesn't sound so good, and I said, well, it.

Speaker 7 (16:14):
Doesn't sound good, but Washington was the most dangerous place
in this country, and now you know what.

Speaker 24 (16:20):
It's probably the safest place in our country.

Speaker 23 (16:23):
The National Guards carrying nine millimeters in m fours and
we've gone twelve days without a murder in DC. It's
the longest streak since before the pandemic. Trump's done so much.
The US Marshals gave him a badge.

Speaker 26 (16:37):
We thought it was only appropriate to present you with
honorary United States Marshall Service batche And this badge comes
with the still item right here the handcuff key as president,
because you continued, through your policies and your efforts with

(16:57):
your staff to un handcuff law enforcement officers all over
this nation.

Speaker 5 (17:03):
America's heart throbs.

Speaker 23 (17:04):
Steven Miller says Trump's making amer a goad date again.
Last week was restaurant Week and liberation Week.

Speaker 27 (17:12):
The first time of their lives. They can use the parks,
they can walk on the streets. You have people who
can walk freely at night withouving to worry about being
robbed or mug They're wearing their watches again. They're wearing
jewelry again, They're carrying purses again. It is a literal statement.
The President Trump has free seven hundred thousand people in

(17:33):
this city who were living under the rule of criminals,
and thought.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
I can't even imagine in my mind being so concerned
living personally. I can understand being concerned, but I can't
understand living somewhere where you didn't feel like you could
wear your watch, where you didn't feel like you could
wear any jewelry, where you were you didn't feel like
you could go out to eat, where you're a virtual

(17:57):
prisoner in your own home. Would you live under those conditions?
But that's staggering. Twelve days no murders in Washington, DC.
Debby likes saying twelve days no murders in Saint Louis,
twelve days no murders in Chicago, twelve days no murders
in Detroit. No wonder. There are plenty people who would

(18:18):
like to see Trump bring his policing style in the
National Guard to their city so they can go out.
They can enjoy their life. They can go to a restaurant.
They can have clean streets, save streets to walk on.
Five twenty six, Time to take a look at your moneys.
We say good morning to Jeff Fellinger.

Speaker 24 (18:35):
And Jimmy Good morning to you.

Speaker 28 (18:37):
A new battle is taking shape between the White House
and the Federal Reserve. President Trump says he is firing
FED Governor Lisa Cook, who is accused of submitting fraudulent
information on mortgage applications. Cook says she won't leave stocks retreated.
In yesterday's trading, the major averages had losses ranging from
two tenths percent to eight tenths percent. Investors took a

(18:58):
breather to wait for the real lease of Nvidius. Quarterly
results on Vidia, scheduled to report after the market's close tomorrow.
Stock market futures are a bit lower this morning. I'm

Speaker 2 (19:31):
It is five thirty here on Houston's Morning News. I'm
Jimmy Barrett on our top stories this half hour. Commissioner's
Corp will meet today to talk about the budget, look
at how redistricting could reshape Congress, and coming up at
five thirty eight. If you have Dunlop's disease, you might
not want a book on Southwest Airlines starting in January.

(19:53):
Details in the minutes ahead. First, let's check out that
morning drive again to Gary Mack the Kalays on forty five.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
The North three Ways southbound is technically before airlines. Drive
delays up to ten minutes from Little York. It's in
three of our right lanes, not much else, slowing our
speeds and at the moment in from Kingwood on sixty
nine the East Tanks to the North Loop. That's running
fifteen minutes sixteen on the south West Freeway northbound from
the Browsers River to the West Loop. And if you

(20:49):
time now for the news. Here's Cliff Sanders, Thank you.

Speaker 6 (20:51):
Jimmy five thirty one on KTRHR top story.

Speaker 20 (20:55):
I think she has met all the requirements for that.
That's another topic, but yes I do.

Speaker 5 (21:01):
Harris County Precinc.

Speaker 6 (21:02):
Three Republican Commissioner Tom Ramsey still thinks Judge Lena Hidalgo
should be removed from office. Commissioner's court needs today at
ten o'clock to discuss the budget. The county currently facing
a deficit as large as two hundred million dollars. More
County Democrats spending exposed. Investigative reporter Wayne Delchafino says Precinct

(21:24):
Force Leslie Brionis, Democrat, gave out one point two million
in bonuses.

Speaker 5 (21:29):
For her employees. That's illegal in Texas.

Speaker 31 (21:33):
They decided to call the bonuses something else so they
can get away with it.

Speaker 32 (21:39):
This is a retention incentive, a one time retention incentive.

Speaker 9 (21:43):
It's a bonus.

Speaker 33 (21:44):
Now.

Speaker 6 (21:44):
We reached out to Brionis's office, we were told the
commissioner stands by the one time retention incentive, claiming again
it's not a bonus. By point thirty two on KTRH,
another win for State Attorney General Ken Paxon over Beto
war In his political organization for funding the runaway Dems,
But a plan to punish those Democrats was rejected by

(22:07):
House Republican leadership. It would have censured them and removed
committee leadership spots, amongst other things. Alexandra Mormehler, who ran
and lost a contested election for Harris County judge in
twenty twenty two, announced that she's running for the newly
redrawn seat currently held by Democrat Al Green.

Speaker 12 (22:26):
What's so great about that district?

Speaker 17 (22:28):
Now?

Speaker 34 (22:28):
Instead of running in something that was at least a
ten point savored for Democrats, I'm running in something that's
at least in a ten point favor for Republicans, So
I like.

Speaker 5 (22:36):
Those on Mealer with ktrh's Michael Barry.

Speaker 6 (22:39):
State Rep. Riscoe Kine is also running for that seat.
More states are joining the redistricting war, which will now
have a major impact on next year's midterms.

Speaker 35 (22:50):
This could have massive effects on the balance of power
in Congress and help the GOP.

Speaker 36 (22:54):
Republicans have a lot of low hanging fruit and Democrats
do not have any low hanging fruit left. They have
a ast advantage we are now starting to offset.

Speaker 35 (23:02):
Political consultant Luke Messias says he still expects blue states
to jerry mander even more In response to Texas.

Speaker 36 (23:08):
They are going to test how much Donald Trump can
force red states to be real red states over the
next cycle and going into twenty twenty eight.

Speaker 35 (23:16):
He added that he does expect the Texas maps to
survive a legal challenge and be in place by the midterms.
Ethan Buchanan News Radio seven forty kgrh the.

Speaker 6 (23:24):
Redistricting big by California and Governor Gavin Newsom might be
more about his presidential run than anything else. Chuck de
Vore of the Texas Public Policy Foundation says Newsom's been
up in the polls thanks to the stunts.

Speaker 37 (23:37):
You saw him make a premature move earlier this year
by saying, you know, you probably shouldn't have men and
women's sports. He took some hits for that among progressives.
This redistricting fight allows him to kind of claw back
some of the progressive support so that he can at
least try to nail down the nomination.

Speaker 6 (23:55):
More says this special election will cost Californians two hundred
and fifty million dollars. Meantime, New York Republican Congressman Mike
Waller says term limits would help fix the gerrymanderin So
will it ever happen?

Speaker 38 (24:09):
No, that's not gonna happen. One of the oldest sort
of rules of human life. The people who are going
to be governed by the rules will not put themselves
in a position of writing them rules to their detriment.

Speaker 6 (24:21):
Newsmax contributor Jeffrey Lord says the best way to implement
term limits is on a state by state basis, and
even that could face an uphill battle. It's now five
point thirty five is you get your kids ready for school?
Attorney General Ken Paxton tells Texas school districts to abide
by the new ten Commandments law despite a temporary injunction

being put in place last week. That injunction only affects
eleven districts, among them Fort, Ben, Scipher, and hisd. Now,
school choice doesn't go into effect until next year, but
the state is rolling out some of the rules now.

The education savings accounts were sold as a way to

Looking at your money, you can blame Joe Biden's green

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Check you and often for what's developing.

Speaker 9 (26:23):
This is just developing out of the Middle East now
right now, it's developing.

Speaker 1 (26:27):
One News Radio seven k TRH five thirty seven, our
time here on Houston's Morning News, right, a very very
good morning to our plus sized listeners.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
Does that make anybody feel better to be called plus sized?
Is that better than calling somebody fat? I mean, if
you're fat, you're fat. Plenty of people choose to be fat.
Some people are are fat through I'm not going to
say no fault of their own, but you know, I
understand and their metabolism differences in people. But the politically

(27:04):
correct names we like to put on things to make
people feel better about themselves. I don't know that you know,
shopping in the plus sized area of the store makes
anybody feel any better than shopping in the you know
that part of the store. It's just words when you
get right down to it. However, words do have meanings.

(27:27):
And Southwest Airlines, you know read Southwest Airlines is revamping
themselves a little bit here. They are now going to require, okay,
if you want me to say, plus size travelers to
pay for an extra seat in advance if you cannot
fit within the arm rest of one seat. This policy
goes into effect along with their new seating policy January
the twenty seventh. That's the big date. I don't know

(27:47):
why they picked the twenty seventh of January other than
January first, but they did so. Starting then, you have
to purchase a seat in advance. If you can't fit
within the armrest of one seat. There is a chance,
depending upon how many people are on that plane, that
you could end up getting refunded that extra seat. But
there's also a chance you won't before you would automatically

(28:08):
get refunded the amount. I don't know why they asked
you to buy an advance. I guess to reserve it, right.
I mean, bottom line is, if you need extra room,
you need extra room. You probably want extra room. Nobody
likes to be squeezed into an airplane. Now. One thing
I will say, however, in defense of plus sized people,

(28:30):
is that I don't believe there is a firm national
standard on seat size. A lot of the newer planes
that have come out, the seats are actually smaller. They
you know, they keep trying to cram more people onto
smaller planes, and to do that, they have made the
seats smaller. We're not getting smaller as a society, We're

(28:50):
only getting bigger. So does this make any sense? I
understand the need to fit with it in your seat,
but your seat needs to be a standard size so
that we can all know that. You know, I need
to buy an extra seat on this plane. I don't
need to buy an extra seat if I'm on this plane.

(29:13):
Let's let's just standardize this a little bit before we
start charging people extra for extra seats. Five forty Time

the forecast for you, and the rain chances are going
to increase as we move along this week.

Speaker 22 (29:54):
Yeah, we are going to get a little bit of
rain here the next couple of days. It's going to
be a gradual ramp up of that possibility of some
wet weather. We're seeing about a thirty percent chance of
those showers and thunderstorms developing later today. Right now, the
bulk of the rains down near Matagorda Bay, and then
there's been a couple of sprinkles near the coast as well.

(30:16):
Temperatures today load to mid nineties tomorrow, a fifty percent
chance of showers and storms, and then a forty percent
chance of rain the rest of the week Thursday, Friday,
and Saturday. There is a cold front that is drifting
in our direction, so that by the end of the
week we may be just slightly cooler, perhaps upper eighties

(30:38):
to low nineties for most of us. So it'll be
interesting to see if we get a little dose of
fall by the end of the week.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
Do we get a little less humidity with the cooler
temperatures not through Saturday.

Speaker 21 (30:50):
I haven't looked through Sunday.

Speaker 22 (30:51):
We need that front to clear out to get that
lower humidity, so I'll take a look at it and
see if maybe it's a little drier by Sunday.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
So President Trump fired somebody at the Federal Reserve yesterday. No,
it wasn't Jerome Powell. It was Lisa Cook. She's a
Federal Reserve governor. Here's the story, by the way, by Reuters.
Guess what slant they wanted to take. I'll read it
to you. President Donald Trump, in August twenty fifth, took
the unprecedented action of firing Lisa Cook, the first African

(31:37):
American woman to serve as a Federal Reserve governor, overclaims
of mortgage borrowing impropriety. Well, the problem is, that's exactly
what she did. Her position is the first African American
woman to serve on the Federal Reserve as a governor.
Is not the important part of the story. The import

(31:57):
part of the story is, here's somebody working on the
Federals who cheated on her mortgage. Here's what the President said,
I've determined there are sufficient costs to remove you from
your position, sufficient evidence that Cook had made false statements
on mortgage applications. Remember what they did to Trump there's
a whole federal case in New York over that. You know.

(32:19):
They they tried to find him like five hundred million
dollars or some crazy amount of money, and and he
didn't really do it. What she did is that she
claimed in both homes that she has a mortgage on
that they were both her primary residence, trying to get
a lower interest rate. She cheated on a mortgage application,

(32:39):
trying to get a lower interest rate. The President said,
at minimum, your conduct at issue exhibits the sort of
gross negligence of financial transactions that calls in to question
your confidence and trustworthiness. Is a financial regulator, You're fired.
Five poin, fifty out time for traffic and weather. Together's
we check in again with Gary Max.

There's plenty of people out there marching. He guess who
they're marching for? Yeah, kill maar Abrego Garcia. Why do
we use all three names? I don't know, killmar Abrego
Garcia protesting, singing protesters. They must have hired them, right.
I think these are the people who tried out but
didn't make it on Broadway. I think they they wrangled

(35:01):
them together. They pay them to show up in protest,
and they're holding signs free kill mar You know the
MS thirteen white beating gang member. Why have Democrats latched
onto him? What is it? What is it about him
that they think somehow will help them? Legal immigrants? Hate

(35:23):
this guy. They don't want to protect a predator, a
human trafficker, a wife beater. Who would so here's a
little bit of the singing marchers at his rally. Who
follow up coming on the five from Harold Ford Junior.
He's a Democrat. He's not in favor of what they're doing.

Speaker 32 (36:11):
The guy needs to be in prison. He doesn't need
to be on the streets like all these liberals want
him to be.

Speaker 42 (36:17):
First of all, I don't know what we are protecting here.
If indeed the White House and a Justice Department has
information to show that this young man is an MS
thirteen gang member and is a threat to his community
in our country, they should come forward with it, and
we should convict this guy and get him out of
our country. But even if they're not doing that, this
should not be the sword that we fall on. We

(36:39):
swing Democrats at every pitch to president the road. They
wildly outside of the strike threag zone, and we're swinging.
They're doing a good job of it, swinging at just everything.
This is not where and how we should be talking
about immigration policy, how we should be talking about allowing
the best and the smartest to come to our country.

Speaker 24 (37:00):
This is not what we should fall on.

Speaker 5 (37:02):
The sworder.

Speaker 42 (37:02):
Can you imagine if we were asking instead of this,
mister President, we support your efforts to make our border
more secure, and we want to see all the violentce
was gone, and we support your efforts on crime. We
want you to treat putin like the same way you
treat criminals here, because he is one. Can you imagine
if we were saying that President Trump, will we agree
with him? And then when we disagree with him, and

(37:23):
trying to craft a message.

Speaker 2 (37:25):
Yep, I Hey, why did you talk to your fellow Democrats,
Harold Ford Junior? Why'd you try to talk some sense
into them? Although I think honestly it's too late for that.
If there were any way to bring them back from
the brink, I would like to think it would have
happened by now. But nothing has changed for them, nothing

He also signed in order banning the burning of the

The Trump administration has disputed the July jobs numbers, and
the head of the Bureau for Labor Statistics was fired
after that report came out new numbers from redfind showing
Texas leads the nation and canceled home contracts. And while
the left might want you to think it's because of
a shaky economy, real estate expert Carrolly Gurney says it's

On news Radio seven KTRH six oz eight of time
here in Houston's party News. I found this kind of interesting.
We could have some fun with this. I think this
will make a good question today. In fact, I shall
make it the question of the day today unless I
come up with something better later. On JD Power. You
know who JD Power is.

Speaker 2 (45:37):
They do a lot of a lot of research, especially
as it relates to automobiles. What drivers like, what what
drivers don't like? They did a survey with about eighty
thousand participants in this study, and what the company likes
to do is look at new technologies that come into
vehicles and then ask drivers which ones they like, which

(45:59):
ones they don't like, Like, you know, how easy is
it to use how hard is it to use that
kind of stuff? So they quiz people. All these participants
had owned their vehicles for about ninety days. They all
had kind of the latest and greatest as far as
technology new vehicles, and of course technology is always changing
on these vehicles, and they asked them to rate what

(46:21):
they thought was the best technology on their vehicle, and
the runaway winner was blind spot cameras. You may have,
I know, in my truck, for example, I've got I've
got that little light that comes on if somebody's in
your blind spot, and that's very helpful. But on some vehicles,
when you are going to make a turn, when you

(46:44):
put your blinker on to go in that particular direction,
it'll show you a complete camera view of what's happening
in that left lane, including your blind spot area, so
you don't accidentally just start to make a turn. You know,
that camera comes on and you can see quickly exactly
what's going on in the left hand lane before you
make that turn. Of course, you have to use your
turn signal. Not everybody does. You have to use your

(47:06):
turn signal, and you can't wait till last second to
turn on your turn signal, or it's not going to
do you any good. I know, the technology I think
I appreciate the most, and I didn't appreciate it until
I got this big Silverado truck. Is the is the
is the backup cameras forward and backward, so I can
see right in front of me, I can see right
behind me, I can see to the left of me,

(47:27):
I can see the right of me. I've got almost
like a three hundred and sixty degree view of what's
going on around the vehicle. And you know, it sits
up so high and it's so big that you know,
especially if you're trying to park in a spot where
you're a relatively crowded parking lot, that truck doesn't have
the same turn radius as the smaller vehicle does. Having

(47:48):
all those camera angles makes it a whole lot easier
to park to make sure you're not running into anything.
So here's my question of the latest technology you have
in whatever vehicle you drive, what is the technology you
like the most, what is the technology you used the most?
And if you could invent another piece of technology to

(48:09):
put in that vehicle that you would love to use,
what would that be. You go to the iHeartRadio app KTRH,
hit the talkback button. You get up to thirty seconds.

week is the eighth anniversary Of Hurricane. Harvey Hurricane harvey
hit the WEEK i was supposed to move here To,
houston and it delayed me getting here by about a.
WEEK i Wish i'd been, here not BECAUSE i wanted
to deal with all the things you had to deal
with During Hurricane, harvey but just BECAUSE i felt, Like

(50:35):
i'm moving To, Houston i'm going to be A. HISTONIAN
i need to be a part of. THIS i just
couldn't get. Here but there's always lessons that you're learned
right from. HURRICANES i know there are lessons that we
learned here In Harris, county especially as relates to. Flooding
we'll talk With Brian, Murray Harris County office Of Emergency
management and see what he thinks the takeaways war From

(50:55):
harvey and if we're ready for Another. Harvey god, forbid

Speaker 2 (52:42):
Like that six twenty two is our time Here in Houston's.
War News brian MURRAY'S With Us Harris county Office Of
emergency managements eighth anniversary this Week Of. Hurricane HARVEY so
i guess the, First, question brian is what do we
Learn from harvey and what have we fixed as a result?

Speaker 17 (52:55):
Of that, YOU know i think that one of the
Things That harris county residents do well as adapt and
because we get hit with so many different types, of
storms whether they're, tropical flooding we're always pulling lessons. FROM
them i Think, from harvey the biggest things that we

(53:16):
learned is that there's not a place in this area that.
Can't flood when you look at the fact that almost
eighty psh of the county was under at least a
foot and a half, of water that's a pretty. Scary statistic,
you know trillion gallons gallons of water on our, you
know fell in. Four days that's an unthinkable amount. Of
rain but HERE'S where i think we've made. SOME differences

(53:36):
i think we've got very realistic about some of the
tools and training that we needed to combat or at
least to face something.

Speaker 33 (53:42):
Like that we've.

Speaker 17 (53:43):
Almost doubled the number of high water vehicles, and boats,
you know rescue boats since. THAT time i think that
our first response teams and the volunteer and city fire
departments around around the county have done more to train
for how to do, rescue safer for how, to handle,
you know pulling people out, of water and we've gotten

(54:04):
a little bit better at messaging some of the things.
To do we never Thought until harvey that we would have,
a situation we would have so many people stuck, on
rooftops and so there were some things that we needed
to learn to, tell people like don't go into. The
attic so there are things, we've LEARNED but, i think, you,
Know Again, harris cunty residents are pretty darn resilient to,

(54:25):
begin with which is which is really a blessing. For
us but it's IT'S just i still get goosebumps thinking about.

Speaker 2 (54:32):
That WEEK yeah i. Do too it may, sound silly
but here's one of THE things. I learned i learned
that those big ass pickup trucks that are jacked way
up with the huge tires, around them that look so
silly most of, the time coming real handy when you've
got floodwaters. Going on and that's.

Speaker 17 (54:48):
THE truth i can't deny. That one that's a good
LESSON and.

Speaker 2 (54:52):
I think it brought a. GREAT point i think one
of the lessons that was learned is to be prepared
to have. A boat even we don't live we don't live,
on lakes most, of us we do live near tributaries that,
can flood and having something you can get into that
floats is a pretty handy thing. To have especially if
you are a first responder like blease. And FIRE.

Speaker 17 (55:14):
As, i said, you know the first response agencies are
basically double the number of, you know vehicles they have to,
do rescues and that's a. GOOD thing i think the
other Thing that harvey should have taught us and should have,
reminded us, is that, you know hurricanes are not our biggest.
Threat here it really. Is flooding, you know by the
time we Got to harvey in, twenty seventeen we've seen
success of many major floods in fourteen and. Twenty fifteen

(55:37):
harvey was just the the ultimate and it's a very
very unlikely we're going to see something like. That again
but it's retainly. Not impossible but it does speak to
the fact that there is no excuse for not. Being
prepared all the time we talk about being prepared for
hurricane season because it's kind of Like the marquee event
Or the marquee, you know. The storm But really harvey

(55:58):
wasn't a hurricane.

Speaker 2 (55:58):
For us it was a.

Speaker 17 (55:59):
Flood event it was a.

Speaker 9 (56:00):
Rain event so the idea.

Speaker 17 (56:02):
Of being prepared for hurricane season. Absolutely TRUE but i
need people to be prepared every day of.

Speaker 2 (56:07):
The year for whatever comes amen. TO that i think
the other thing that we all learned from this is
that five hundred year storms are not necessarily once every five.
Hundred years they can they, can happen they can happen at.
Any time we also found out we have some pretty
good Friends in louisiana With The, cajun navy and we've
been good friends to them. As WELL and i think

(56:29):
we also found out we can pretty much. Survive anything
think about you just. Said it eighty Percent Of harris
county was under a foot of water and it looked
like something that nobody could ever. Recover from but.

Speaker 17 (56:39):
We did, You, know jimmy you m you brought up
a really good point With The, cajun navy and, you
know they had brought up about two hundred boats to
the area in the space of, you know hours to
help to.

Speaker 2 (56:50):
Help RESPOND and i.

Speaker 17 (56:51):
Think what that does highlight and something that people need
to be aware of is how they or role our
nonprofit community and just playing on volunteers playing disaster recovery.
And response it's almost bigger than what the. Government does, you,
know people, you know wait till, after disaster oh, Where,
schema well most of the relief for, our residents whether
that comes from something as, you know basic as distributing

(57:14):
food and water to, doing mucking gutting. AND rebuilding a
lot of that is managed by. Nonprofit communities some of
them are, faith based some of, them are, you know
Like The, red Cross The, united way And The. Salvation
army but those those agencies are really who drives, our
recovery and between that and, our residents we just couldn't
do it.

Speaker 2 (57:32):
Without, Them yeah neighbors. Helping, neighbors brian, thank you good
to talk. To you let's hope we don't talk about

The, TEN yeah i like working because working is like playing.
For me six thirty eight are time Here in Houston's Forty. News,
right uh here's not one of those wallet hub lists
hardest working States. In AMERICA what i always find curious
about these little surveys is what kind of methodology did
they use in order to determine where the Hardest working.

(01:05:39):
Americans live they compare the fifty states across two, key
dimensions direct work factors and indirect work. Factor factors they
evaluated those dimensions using ten key metrics Average work i'll
give you. SOME examples i won't go through all of
this to take too, much time but average work week
hours in the, employment rate the shriff households were no,

(01:06:02):
adult WORKS the shriff workers leaving, vacation TIME, unused shaff,
engaged workers and idle youth Went into those were the.
Direct factors the indirect factors were average commute time because
if you're driving, to work THAT counts shriff workers with,
multiple jobs annual volunteer hours, per resident and average leisure

(01:06:23):
time spent. Per year and they put all that information
together and came up with the fiftiest hard working States. In,
america well obviously the ones at the bottom were, not
Hardworking so i'll just do the. Top ten these are
the top ten hardest, working states and then we'll do
the bottom of the list. For you, number one based on,
Those Factors, north dakota Followed, By Alaska, South, Dakota, Texas,

(01:06:50):
Hawaii Virginia, New, Hampshire, wyoming Maryland. And nebraska that's the.
Top ten the bottom of the List, Was, Oregon Illinois, New, Mexico,
Ohio California, New, York Nevada, Rhode Island, west virginia and Dead, Last,

Know leez eldon's doing a lot of really good things
At The Environmental, protection agency AT, the epa but, they're still,
you know they're still doing some of the nanny stuff
that kind of drives. Me CRAZY the epa cautioning us
every time we have an ozone, action day and we

(01:24:03):
have those generally. Every summer, you know when you have
a lot of heat and humidity and not a lot
of wind and the air's not moving around, that much
it becomes an ozone. Action day that's all. That means
that means that, the smog the naturally occurring pollution out
there just doesn't dissipate the way. It SHOULD and i
think we all, have learned thankfully that it's not good

(01:24:25):
for those, with asthma or kids or, older adults or
people who are being very. Active outdoors but in, my
world it doesn't change my life because me not, doing
anything like not driving my car or driving my car

To matter there's six million people. Living here we could

To moses seven twenty one is our time Here On Houston's.
Boring news we're Joined By, wayne delchafino Investigator At Dulta.
Fino consulting seems appropriate we're talking, About, today wayne because
Today The Harris County commissioner's court is going to meet
and talk about. The Budget Is leslie beroni's going to
be asked to explain how she came up with a
one point five million dollars for.

Speaker 33 (01:31:31):
Her staff, Absolutely not and you know why because government
never loves to. Look, Back right they screw us all
the time and they never want to. Look, back look
this was an investigation that costs some trouble in my
OFFICE because i don't pay bonuses to my shaft except
for a little Bit. DURING christmas i told him that

(01:31:51):
their retension bonus was not getting fired when they started. Raising,
questions look they raised our taxes, last year right by? Fifty,
percent right that's what makes this even.

Speaker 2 (01:32:03):
More, arrogance well you know what hang on, the way
what's what's we should explain that, to people because what's
really sad about that is they don't think they raised
our taxes because they didn't raise the. Tax, rate well
that doesn't matter if appraisals are up and more money is.
Coming in our taxes.

Speaker 24 (01:32:18):
Went Up.

Speaker 33 (01:32:20):
Even commissioner, ramsey says they raised our taxes fifteen percent,
last year and so this year they claim they're going
to give us a, balanced budget which means to me
a couple. Of things first, of all it was all
kinds of fact, to trend and they should train maybe.
More fat but here's the real arrogance of this for,
folks listening maybe. Of them remember the days when government

(01:32:40):
employees were All paid i'm not talking, cops here but
government employees were paid, so, little right which is why
we needed these great pensions. For, them right they've got
better pictures in the government sector than we do in the. Private,
Sector right and we. Did that but now.

Speaker 13 (01:32:55):
They make so.

Speaker 33 (01:32:56):
Much money you Know What rodney ellis's chiefest, staff one
it makes four hundred and five. Thousand dollars what's that?

Speaker 2 (01:33:03):
All about? That's crazy so who got these Races From
leslie beroni's what did they do to deserve?

Speaker 33 (01:33:08):
The, races, well, so look bonuses aren't. Really Illegal So,
christian menifee The county attorney's part of, the, story right
you can't call it, a bonus right because. That's illegal
so you just changed The name christian menity sort of.
Thought up the auditor had never seen, this before it
had never. Been done they just changed the name to

(01:33:30):
call it an attention incentive for top people got twenty
up to twenty thousand dollars in a bonus in the
year they raised.

Speaker 2 (01:33:40):
Everyone's Taxes and i'm sure these were all people who
are ready, to, quit right so they had to do
this to. Retain them that's what a retention payment would.
Be about where are these people ready? To quit where
are these people people who? Are, irreplaceable now how about
that for? Your answer so she got away, with This

(01:34:02):
and I'm guessing i'm guessing she's probably not the. Only
one I'm Sure tom ramsey. Is clean is the day?
IS long, I Mean tom ramsey's one hell of. A
Guy but i'm Sure That leslie bernis is not the
only one who's tried some.

Speaker 13 (01:34:13):
Of, this.

Speaker 33 (01:34:15):
No, and look they all do it in, different Ways
But leslie briannis was the first to, do this and
other commissioners actually said she what a. Great, idea look
as long as they're taking care of the, deputies, now
right and as long as they DO what i Would
Suggest harris's, county do which is a. Forensic, audit right
it is time for the county auditor to.

Speaker 9 (01:34:37):
Be made a real.

Speaker 33 (01:34:38):
County auditor that can go into any of. These programs
and by, the way the two point whatever billion dollar
budget they're going to talk, about today that doesn't Include
the tolos flush, fund money.

Speaker 2 (01:34:49):
Remember, that okay good. To know, as always thank you for, the,

is working in a community that faces a lot. Of challenges,
you know a lot of, underprivileged kids a lot, of kids,
you know from single, parent households and she does a
great job and she's helping these kids, feel seen heard.

technology this morning because there's a lot of features that
we really. Really like according TO The jd, power survey
saw the number one thing that people really like are
the advanced technology that's available in some vehicles with the side,

(01:44:38):
view mirrors where not only do you get the little
warning light that somebody's in your, blind spot but also
it activates a camera that will show you that. Left
lane mine doesn't, have THAT but i can see where
people would. Like that my big thing is the multi
angle backup CAMERA where I see i can see right

(01:44:59):
in front, of me, both sides right. Behind Me when
i've Got a silverado and know that things, come chunky
so and and and pickup trucks don't have the same
turning radius as smaller, vehicles do so you know it's
a little tougher to maneuver and to get that thing
into a in particular a relatively tight. Parking spot of
course they all feel tight when they're driving a big.

(01:45:20):
Old truck, But anyway i'm asking the question, this morning
what what new technology do you really like that your,
vehicle has or in lieu, of that if you can't think,
of that then what technology would you like to see
invented that you don't currently have for your?

Speaker 19 (01:45:34):
Car truck, Good Morning jimmy james for to ask to
see to THE tech i would like to see in
our vehicles is all these fancy. New cameras next time
we see somebody on their phone while, they're driving cameras
take a picture of their license plate and then a
picture of them on their phone automatically send it to
their auto, insurance companies so their each triple like it
should have a.

Speaker 55 (01:45:54):
Good, day jemmy actually love. Backup camera i'm a, pickup
TRUCK so i know exactly that far. To go BUT
what i would like to see is more advanced Features,
for bluetooth particularly hooking up my phone to. The RADIO
