your official severe weather station, News Radio seven forty k TRH.

(01:23):
It's time now for the news.

Speaker 5 (01:24):
Here's Cliffsonders, Good morning, Jimmy, and good morning everyone. It's
five oh one on KTRH. Our top story. Another pause
in tariffs for now.

Speaker 6 (01:33):
They'll be going on April the second, so we'll be
talking about that.

Speaker 7 (01:37):
It will be.

Speaker 6 (01:39):
A big game changer for our country because we've been
ripped off by every country in the world.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
President Trump in the Oval Office. Under the revised policy,
goods from Mexico and Canada that comply with USMCA will
be exact. Dow futures this morning are up sixty points.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Elsewhere.

Speaker 5 (01:58):
The Wall Street Journal reports at a phone call between
Trump and Canada's Justin Trudeau got quote heated and included profanity.
Canada has placed retaliatory twenty five percent tariffs on American goods.
Five vot two now on Capitol Hill, the House votes
to center Houston Congressman Al Green for interrupting the President's

(02:18):
speech this week. Ten Democrats joined Republicans in this, but
Green says he would do it again.

Speaker 8 (02:25):
I would do it again.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
This is a matter of principle, this is a matter
of conscience.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
Democrats reacted by going to the front of the House
floor and singing we shall overcome.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
And even more weirdness from the Dems.

Speaker 5 (02:38):
AOC and Texas Congresswoman Jasmin Crockett are part of a
group featured in a literally cringeworthy Chooser Fighter parody skit
that was posted online by a social media influencer, We've
got it for you at KTRH dot com. All this
strange behavior from the Dems is only going to help Republicans.
That's according to Texas com Irishman Wesley Hunt.

Speaker 9 (03:01):
They behave like this and they don't shift toward the
middle where the rest of America is. And if they
don't get to acceptance very quickly, then they're not going
to be able to combat.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Up in the midterms.

Speaker 5 (03:13):
Hunt with our sister station nine point fifty KPRC. And
the left is melting down because it took Trump just
six weeks to make the Biden era and afterthought.

Speaker 10 (03:22):
Some Trump supporters are already crediting him for saving America.
Writer and commentator Jeff Crueer says, the change from Biden
to Trump has been headspinning.

Speaker 11 (03:30):
We can forget this horrible memory, this nightmare known as
the Biden presidency, and now we usher in better times
for America, a chance for us to restore our economy,
restore our position around the world, secure our border.

Speaker 10 (03:43):
While the border has been sealed in short order, other
issues will take longer to fix, like the economy and
ending the wars in Gaza in Ukraine. Corey Jolson, who's
radio seven forty KTRCH.

Speaker 5 (03:52):
Trump administration also now has control over the daily press pool,
taking it from the Hitehouse correspondence to soiation.

Speaker 12 (04:00):
It is very much like a club, and therein lies
the problem is you've got people in the press corps
who are seriously anti Trump, then you're not necessarily going
to get the kind of back and forth with the
press secretary.

Speaker 5 (04:14):
Former Reagan White House official Jeffrey Lord says, too many
reporters in that pool are anti Trump. It's now five
h four here at home. The City of Houston begins
a hiring free use today part of the effort to
trim down the nearly three hundred and fifty million dollar
projected budget shortfall.

Speaker 13 (04:32):
According to the mayor, this is also a major step
towards streamlining city efficiency.

Speaker 14 (04:36):
We have more employees than any other major city per capit.
There for of our supervisors supervised three.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Or fewer people.

Speaker 13 (04:44):
Mayor Whitmyer went on to say that this freeze would
not apply to police officers or city firefighters.

Speaker 14 (04:49):
Our first responders, police and fire.

Speaker 15 (04:52):
We have a very.

Speaker 14 (04:53):
Aggressive recruiting effort. We're increasing a number of police and fire.

Speaker 13 (04:58):
He went on to say that some of the money
save during this hiring freeze we'll be used to recruit
and retain more officers. Ethan Buchanan News Radio seven forty eight.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
And this just into US law enforcements trying to piece
together what led to a boy's death late last night,
after that boy was found shot to death near a
retention pond in West Harris County.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
Five oh five.

Speaker 5 (05:18):
On the heels of President Trump's promise to tap the
liquid gold here in the US, OPEK now says it
will increase production. Fox's Phil Flynn explains what this means
for American oil companies on the surface.

Speaker 16 (05:31):
It doesn't help right because it drives down prices.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
But at the.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Same time, you can offset.

Speaker 16 (05:36):
That negative impact for US oil and gas by reducing
the cost of regulation, which has gone through the roof.

Speaker 5 (05:44):
The good news is he says, we should see lower
prices at the pump immediately, speaking of which, those prices
continue to tick down now at two dollars and sixty
five cents a gallon across Houston five oh six. President
Trump waited on this yesterday, calling it a fifty to
fifty issue. We spring forward on Sunday morning, and while

(06:04):
many of us think of it as a pain in
the butt, as it turns out it could affect your health.

Speaker 15 (06:10):
When we even miss an hour of sleep. The science
shows that we can have depression, anxiety, it can even
lead to heart issues. When they change that one hour
of sleep, it does make a significant.

Speaker 5 (06:20):
Difference, neuroscientist doctor Patrick Porter. By the way, hospitals say
they do see an uptick in heart attacks the Monday
after the time change, and Trump said yesterday he'd probably
leave the whole thing alone.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Five h six.

Speaker 5 (06:32):
The first weekend at Rodeo Houston is here. Tonight is
bun Bee's birthday bonanza. Country star Bailey Zimmerman performs tomorrow
night this.

Speaker 17 (06:42):
Zor and Brace between rockin Place.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
The Rodeo is also doing a drone show tomorrow night
at eight, and the Rockets beat New Orleans one oh
nine to ninety seven, snapping a three game losing streak.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
They host the Pelicans tomorrow night.

Speaker 5 (07:00):
I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's News Weather in Traffic station
kat R h.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
More with Jimmy Barrett and the Houston Morning News teams.
This is Houston's Morning News, right time for Doje up date.
We haven't done a Doje up date in a while.
I love this one. CNN is stunned by shocking pole.
The poll's not gonna be shocking to you. It's not

(07:26):
gonna be shocking to me. It's it's just gonna be
shocking to the people who live in New York and
the people who live in California. These these isolated media
types who think somehow that they're the mainstream. I really
do believe that. I think I think a lot of
these these progressive anchors think their mainstream. They think that
they think like the majority of Americans. So when they

(07:47):
when they increasingly get information like the election results and
and this poll on Doge. They don't know what to do.
How can this be? This is this is not what
I believe? How how can this be right?

Speaker 18 (08:01):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (08:01):
CNN's Harrietton surprised by shocking poll data showing majority of
Americans support Elon Musk Doze spending cuts. According to a
CBS you gov poll, which you know is slanted to
the left, so the number is going to be artificially low.
I believe it's actually higher than this. But in this poll,
fifty four percent believe that Musk and Doze should have

(08:22):
at least some influence over government spending in operations. So
all these progressive Democrats who believe that unelected Elon Musk
should have nothing to say about what gets cut, fifty
four percent disagree with that. Fifty four percent believe he
should and that he's in the proper position to know
what needs to be cut. Not only did the pole

(08:44):
so show a majority support for Musk in Doseh's influence
on government spending, it also showed that a majority approved
of President Trump trying to cut staff at government agencies.
Seene An anchor Kate Bolden follow up by asking this
guy what do they believe they're actually cutting? What do
they think they're cutting with these Doge cuts? Because you see,

(09:07):
the progressive left believes that the necessary programs are being cut.
You don't believe that forty two percent believe the Dose
is cutting wasteful spending while less than thirty percent believe
the Department is cutting necessary programs. So again, far more
people believe that they actually are cutting wasteful spending versus

(09:32):
cutting programs that we actually need. Musk told his fellow
cabinet members at the last cabinet meeting that he expects
DOSE to reach it's one trillion dollars spending cut gold
during a cabinet meeting last week. So he thinks they're
going to get to at least one trillion in sammings
five ten high for traffic and weather together. Just now,
jumping back in, I have a question, yes, Sky, all right?

Speaker 4 (09:54):
So al Green, not cool Algreen, that's smooth, but jerk Algreen.
He's getting censured right, an ass.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
Of himself the other night. Yes, you know what that
means is he gonna get his handslapped the rulers. Yes,
you've been a very bad boy. Come with a root canal.
I wish it did. That's more punishment than he's going
to get.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
You should have to go sit in traffic court at
fourteen hundred love it for about seven hours.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
How about if we just have him sit in traffic
on I forty five this morning at about eight. You
stole my thunder right there.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
I taught him here the Katie Freeway boom on the
afternoon drive.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
So right now, it's not bad.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
This wouldn't This would be just like a censure right now.
If you were on the Katie Freeway, it's nothing. From
forty five outbound to Studemont, we do have that road work.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
It's three little puny lanes and the text dot wall
of death.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
If you're coming down from forty five to the North Freeway,
North Freeway's got its own wall there on the inside lanes.
Then you try to make that squeeze down ramp, it's
a suicide squeeze. So you either make it or you don't.
It's going to be a lifestyle here for a while.
We'll be like that. Inbound we look good. Just twenty
seven minutes from Part ten into the President's Head Southwest
Freeway bras this River twenty six minutes and two ninety

(11:03):
if you had a grand march at your wedding, Graham
Parkway to the West Loop Easy twenty five. I'm Skymike.
It's your Generator Supercenter dot Com traffic sit.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
Do you remember when you'd get in trouble with the
with parent and your parent would say, I am so
disappointed in you. I am so disappointed in you. Look
at me like that. I thought you were the smart one.
That is that is that is what censor? Is that?

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Terry?

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Here's that all the time? Terry Terry probably heard that
I thought you were the smart one. You and Meland
Terry have probably all been censored more than Al Green has.
You know, when you get right down to it, Mike
Brady is tougher from our Katie our age top tax defenders.
You've learned your like twenty four hour whether Cent or
Terry is here. I'm not going to censor this forecast,

(11:45):
but it could be a little bit nice little sun
would help you know.

Speaker 19 (11:47):
Yeah, it is going to be a cloudy day today.
Here's the thing. We've only got a little bit of
rain to dampen any outdoor plants that you have, and
that's tomorrow and not everybody's gonna get wet, so just
hang in there and we'll get through the weekend together.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
Folks. It's not too bad.

Speaker 19 (12:04):
We do have a lot of clouds, a lot more
clouds than sunshine today.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
But it is going to be another comfortable day.

Speaker 19 (12:11):
Temperatures in the mid seventies to low eighties this afternoon Tomorrow,
forty percent chance of showers. Now, I think you'll still
see some sunshine despite the fact that we do have
submarine temperatures mid to upper seventies.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
Sundays, a little bit on.

Speaker 19 (12:25):
The chili side, but we're dry, partly cloudy, breeze near
sixty Monday and Tuesday, more sunshine and we'll warm back up.
We'll get back up into the seventies by Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
Temperature right now, I'll be double check it. Here it
is fifty nine at your official severe weather station. News
Radio seven forty KTRH. It's Houston's Morning News, brought to
you by New South Windows Solutions. Now back to Jimmy
Barrits and the Houston Morning News team. All the info
you need to take on the day, five twenty now

(12:56):
Here on the Houston's Morning News. More shocking polling data
for the left. This comes from the Trump speech. The
numbers are almost unheard of as far as the approval
of Trump's I'll call it the State of the Union speech.
Although technically it was a speech in front of the
Joint Session of Congress, it wasn't a State of the

(13:17):
Union speech. We'll call it that though, because it really
was all about the state of the Union. Like seventy
five percent plus favorability. I mean, that's like unheard of.
More on that coming up next first though, traffic and
weather together.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
Yes, agree, Take him to one of my weddings where
I'm DJing and make him listen to modern music.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Yes, oh there you go. Feate worse than death. Let's
go to Okay.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
So Richard from Liberty County, Richard, I just found you
on Facebook here and he put up the most interesting
pictures here.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
I think these are from.

Speaker 4 (13:47):
A drone of a highway seven eighty seven between Cleveland,
between Cleveland and Roal Mayor. And you know this bridge
washed out. It's a big deal if you live in
Liberty County or in Hardin County and you're trying to
get across. Man, they almost have this thing finished. They
haven't finished the North Belt yet. All they need to
do is stripe that damn thing. Move the walls, but
they're still the blockages both ways Aldane, Westfield and Imperial Valley.

(14:10):
I'm Skymike on the Generator Supercenter dot Com Traffic Center.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
You don't, Mike, You're you're inspiring me here this morning.
I think we not to your topic. Yes, I think
that's our question of the day here. I think we
send you to the iHeart radio app KTRH. Put us
on your precedent. My question is, how would you censor
Al Green? What would what you think would be appropriate? Sensor, punishite?
We understand that in congressation you've been a very bad boy.

(14:34):
Al Green, a very very bad boy. What would you
do to censor him?

Speaker 8 (14:38):
Put him on the wreck?

Speaker 3 (14:40):
You get thirty seconds, give me a first name where
you're calling from, and you'll hit the talkback button to
tell us what you think. They put me on the rack.
Maybe it'll stretch me. Make a six foot two from
our ktrhtop tax Defenders twenty four hour weather center. Generally
Claude today about eighty Claudia, with the slight chance of
rain showers tomorrow seventy eight, and then Sunday becoming part
of cloudy only about sixty for them. High temperature right

(15:01):
now is fifty nine at your official severe weather station.
News Radio seven forty KTRH. Let's get you caught up
on some of our top stories on a Friday morning.

Speaker 5 (15:11):
Here's Cliff, Thank you, Jimmy. We're sponsored by dn M
Auto Leasing. The Trump administration restarts border wall upgrades that
Biden canceled at the Rio Grand Valley Sector. Nine people
are arrested at yet another anti Israel protest at New
York City's Barnard College. And a private lunar lander from
Houston's Intuitive Machines. The good news is it did land

(15:33):
on the moon, South Paul. The bad news is it
apparently fell over. Get the latest news anytime at KTRH
dot com. Our next update is at five point thirty,
the twentieth day of January.

Speaker 20 (15:45):
The President Hi Donald John Trump, Inauguration Day, the first
one hundred days and beyond on News Radio seven forty KTRHI.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
Twenty three at a time. Here in Houston's Morning new
Larry Kudlow and his panels. Part of his panel was
Lee Carter, She's a Polster, and they were going over
some of the Trump numbers post his speech, and they
really were quite amazing.

Speaker 21 (16:11):
The whole speech was absolutely phenomenal from the perspective of
Republicans and independents. They gave him credit for everything. They
were happy to hear him talk about the price of eggs.
They were happy to hear them give it back to
the Democrats and say, you know what, you should be
standing right now. They were happy about the things that
he covered. They were happy about the explanations. They were
happy when he was talking about the thirteen year old

(16:33):
who overcame brain cancer and became an honorary secret Service.
They were happy. They were excited. Democrats, on the other hand,
were completely defeated. It wasn't that they were angry, It
wasn't that they hated what they said. They just knew
they were resigned and that it was a bad night
for them.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
Across the board. I tested this with them.

Speaker 21 (16:52):
They were just flatlining the whole night because they knew
they looked bad in the audience, but they knew that
Donald Trump was winning, and unfortunately for them, they just
had nothing to do about it, and they're just resigned.

Speaker 22 (17:02):
They didn't like the auction pedals. Oh so those didn't
pool well.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
No, they did not know, very very mean growl.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
But on this point they looked bad. They looked bad.

Speaker 23 (17:14):
No, they looked worse as the speech went on. In
other words, here's Trump having a very good time. You
could tell he's a happy Guy's a happy camper. He's
been a happy camper for quite sce. I was point
number one, point number two. Some of the guests that
he introduced, you know, including the kids going to become
the head of the Secret Service, all that very clever

(17:36):
and wonderful and humane, like, yeah, be happy. But the
Democrats couldn't smile. They couldn't be happy at it. So
that made them even more morose than they're. Ringleader, that dummy.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
From Texas, what's his name?

Speaker 24 (17:48):
Ring?

Speaker 23 (17:48):
He gets thrown out like you should have been thrown out.

Speaker 8 (17:51):
That made it even worse for them.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
I'm saying.

Speaker 23 (17:53):
They were sinking deeper into their chairs as Trump went
on for one hundred minutes, and by the they couldn't
wait to get out of it.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
Right, we set them up. The whole line is watched.

Speaker 22 (18:02):
They want applaud anything, no matter how great it is, right,
and what do they do. They don't applaud anything, no
matter how moving it is, no matter how great it is.
And they start out with this shocking spectacle, the worst
breach of decorum we've ever seen in one of these speeches,
a seventy seven year old man waving a cane and
having to be expelled. So you're the Democratic Party, that's
the exact image you don't want. So you know, look,

(18:23):
they're gonna be in the wilderness for a while. They're
not gonna like this speech.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
I love that they're gonna be in the wilderness for
a while. By the way, again, our question of the
day go through the iHeart radio app KTRH. Put us
on your preset. Get thirty seconds to tell me how
you think it'd be more appropriate to censor Algreen because
all it really means is a slap on the wrist
and you've been a bad boy. There's no real punishment involved.
If you feel free to be as creative as you'd

(18:49):
like to be, I'd love to see some real punishment
for al Green five twenty six. Time to take a
look at your money on the Friday morning, here's de
Nie spell of Greening.

Speaker 25 (18:57):
Yes, stock futures right now they are higher. That's after
President Trump delayed his new tariffs on many imports from
Mexico and Canada. As On the other hand, in China's

Houston's Warning News. First, we're checking out that morning drive
again with Skymike.

Speaker 4 (20:07):
We're a little dragish right on the North Freeway. I
think maybe we had some kind of road debris at
the North Loop.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
What was that? Some kind of stuff inbound.

Speaker 4 (20:15):
It seems to be out of our way now and
we're almost back to full speed.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
Jared from Paarland's Coming Up two eighty eight eight.

Speaker 7 (21:01):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (21:01):
Jimmy five thirty one on k TRH. Good morning, everybody.
Our top story.

Speaker 28 (21:06):
I'm keeping President Trump's promised to eradicate every criminal illegal alien,
every public threat illegal alien, every national illegal alien from
this country.

Speaker 5 (21:15):
Borders our Tom Homan with KTRH as Sean Hannity, And
as the deportation effort continues, the Trump administration takes yet
another step to secure the border, restarting an upgrade of
the wall in the Rio Grand Valley sector canceled by
Joe Biden.

Speaker 3 (21:30):
That's it.

Speaker 5 (21:31):
The illegals keep trying to stay a step ahead of
the good guys. Some human smugglers are reportedly cloning border
patrol vehicles to bypass Trump's crackdown at the border. Five
point thirty two on KTRH, Ukraine's Vladimir Zelenski now says
he's ready to sign that rare minerals deal, a week
after he was thrown out of the White House by

(21:53):
President Trump for grand standing.

Speaker 29 (21:55):
He's apologized, he said he's grateful. He said that he
wants to work towards.

Speaker 5 (22:00):
Pie Trump's Special ENVOYE Steve Whitcoff. Trump also announced another
pause on tariffs with Mexico and Canada, and we'll have
more on that.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
At six o'clock. Now.

Speaker 5 (22:10):
The President did not sign an executive order yesterday despite
reports to abolish the Department of Education, but he did
make his feelings clear on where it's going.

Speaker 6 (22:20):
I want to bring the schools. I want to bring
the schools back to the.

Speaker 5 (22:25):
States, adding that the administration is starting the process to
do that. And as Trump said during his speech this week,
there is absolutely nothing he can do to make Democrats happy,
and this.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
Time the whole nation got to see it.

Speaker 18 (22:40):
The Democrats continue to think that they are still operating
by the same playbook they did during his first term.

Speaker 30 (22:46):
That's Brandon Morse, senior editor at Red State.

Speaker 18 (22:50):
Nothing is more unforgivable to a Democrat than taking away
their power, their influence, and their money. But Trump is
doing that and that is something that they will forever
hate him for.

Speaker 30 (23:00):
And we'll continue to do over the next four years.
Jeff Biggs, News for Radio seven forty k teries.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Thank you, Jeff.

Speaker 5 (23:08):
At five point thirty four, following the Trump lead, Texas
Governor Greg appad tells state employees that are still working
from home to get back to the office and they're
not happy about it.

Speaker 31 (23:19):
One of the fascinating things is these employees are demanding
raises right whether I even come to the office, and
I say.

Speaker 3 (23:24):
The one thing to either pick one but two is
no they don't need RAID is if not want to
come to the office. State fired State.

Speaker 5 (23:30):
Red Briscoe Caine is a member of the Texas House
Doze Committee and says this is a crucial first step
towards improving government efficiency in Texas. The legislature is also
looking at reforming occupational licensing. State Representative Brian Harrison told
our sister station nine fifty KPRC that, believe it or not,
Texas has more licensing regulations than any other state, and.

Speaker 32 (23:54):
When it comes to occupational freedom, Texas is dead last.
I've gotten multiple bills filed session to end that insanity
and to get rid of tons of stupid, bureaucratic red
tape on the occupational licenseure front.

Speaker 5 (24:07):
He says that in Texas it's harder to get a
cosmetology license than it is to become a first responder. Meantime,
in Washington this week, Elon Musk said that the US
Postal Service in Amtrak needs to go private.

Speaker 33 (24:21):
The two services are continuing to lose money year after year.

Speaker 34 (24:25):
It lost a billion dollars last year alone. You don't
want the government in that business, especially when we have other.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
Options out there.

Speaker 33 (24:32):
Senior research fellow at the Heritage Foundation, Rachel Gresler, speaking
of the postal Service, which will more than likely at
least be reformed.

Speaker 34 (24:40):
It's worth looking into a complete privatization, but probably a
more realistic thing to happen, especially in the short term,
would be to just have some reforms to the postal service.

Speaker 33 (24:49):
It's all part of Trump's and Musk's work to shrink
the federal government. Chart Lewis News Radio seven forty k

it's expected to show an uptick in job growth.

Another impact, though, of bidonomics.

Speaker 5 (25:08):
Thirty one million Americans borrowed seventy four billion dollars to
pay off medical bills last year. Kennell Tucker, a USA
Today says boomers borrowed less than young people, but for
bigger amounts.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
The biggest problem high deductibles.

Speaker 35 (25:23):
A lot of people struggle with that, whether it's the
doctors as a surgery it can cost several thousand dollars
that or even over ten thousand dollars. People have to
pay a portion of that, and it's swift culture a
lot of people to do.

Speaker 3 (25:36):
He says.

Speaker 5 (25:36):
The GOP's budget resolution plans to find savings through waste
should help avoid benefits losses. More than five hundred and
fifty broadcasters were in Washington this week pushing for legislation
requiring AM radio in every car.

Speaker 36 (25:50):
For our radio numbers, it's passage of the AM Radio
for every Vehicle acts, legislation that ensures that every billion
manufactured automobile includes an access to dam rais. Yeah, the
bill has already been reintroduced to this Congress.

Speaker 5 (26:03):
NAB President Curtis Legate, Texas Senator Tim Cruz has been
pushing for this for years. Coming up on five thirty seven,

Speaker 37 (26:16):
Heard the sonic boom. What an incredible sight to see
the super heavy booster gliding down and into the Chopston

Speaker 3 (26:29):
All right, so the good news is they caught the booster.

Speaker 5 (26:31):
The bad news is yesterday's Starship test launch, well, the
rocket broke up again. It happened in January as well.
The Astros beat the Mets in spring training five to one.
I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's news, weather and traffic station

This is Houston's Morning News with Jimmy Barretts. Yeah, that's
the cool Al Green five thirty eight our time here
in Houston's Warning News.

Speaker 34 (26:59):
R L.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
Green mean, I had actually people calling me from other
parts of the country. Friends are going, what the hell
is this Al Green doing? What was that all about
last night? I said, he's just looking for attention. He's
just looking for attention, and he's not afraid of what's
gonna happen, because to get censor doesn't really mean anything.
You know, they take a vote, if they vote to

(27:21):
sen you, they call you down. Your censored. You've been
a bad boy. You need to stop that. And that's
the extentiment. And by the way, when they brought him
down yesterday, I'll play the audio a little bit later,
but when they brought him down, they started, he and
his supporters starts singing, we shall overcome, overcome what your

(27:42):
dad doled out worse punishment than Al Green got yesterday.
So I thought, well, listen, I'm surely we can come
up with some more creative ways. I mean, there's got
to be some way that we could, you know, officially
embarrass him, to show that that's what the censorship really
should be. To censor somebody should involved at least a

(28:03):
little bit of embarrassment, right, So I invited you to
answer my question today, how would you censor Al Green?
You go to the iHeartRadio app ktr H, put us
on your preset, you get thirty seconds. First name, where
you're calling from, and how you would censor Al Green?

Speaker 38 (28:17):
Jimmy, I do you believe the best censure for Al
Green would be to be Donald Trump's personal assistant for
one week?

Speaker 3 (28:25):
I think that would be hilarious and embarrassing.

Speaker 23 (28:28):
Have a great day, happy Jason from Spring, hit him
where it hurts, doc him and day's.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
Pay days pay? How much does the congressman make in
a day? I like the I like the the Donald
Trump personal valleg thing. Even that would be good, although
something tells me that, well, you know how the progressive
left would would go with that idea that he did.
He made Al Green his butler. How racist is that?

this years ago, back when I lived in Virginia, and
I think somebody actually decided to do it. I don't
know how successful it was. I know that we have
something similar here. But my idea was to take all
your favorite state Fair foods, right because the State Fair
used to be the place to go to get this
crazy food stuff. And take all those crazy foods and

(36:28):
then put that on the menu and have that available

Speaker 3 (40:32):
But it won't all happen overnight.

Speaker 5 (40:34):
Fixing the economy and ending the overseas wars will take
more time and effort. In his speech to Congress this week,
Trump said quote, we are just getting started. Another move
Trump has made has been against the mainstream media.

Speaker 33 (40:47):
The Trump administration will now be controlling who gets a

That's industry expert Phil Flynn.

Speaker 3 (44:28):
Oh yeah, So right, six oh eight is our time
here in Houston's porning. We have our first Lockness Monster
siding of twenty twenty five. A man on the shores
of Scotland's Daughtis Beach said he saw the elusive Lockness
Monster emerging, emerging for the depths of the lock the
first potential NeSSI siding in twenty twenty five. Uh huh.

(44:48):
He took a picture. The picture is being analyzed and
we'll see. I don't know if you believe in the
Lochness Monster. To me, believing in the lockedness. It's kind
of like believing in Bigfoot, right. I guess if you
think you've seen it, then you believe in it. But

(45:08):
you would think even as deep as lockedness is, you
would think that, you know, they would have been able
to figure something out by now, I mean, either either
proved its existence or its non existence. And clearly they're
assuming that, let's say, for the sake of argument, there
is a locknest monster, assuming that they don't live forever.

(45:31):
There's got to be more than one, right, and they
have to approcreate or else, you know, you're not going
to have any more locknest monsters after a while. So again,
seems like it should be something that with all the
technology available, you can either figure out it exists or
it doesn't, just like Bigfoot, I mean, does Bigfoot exist
or not? I mean, are there bigfoots? There's been sightings

(45:52):
of big foots, there have been footprints of bigfoots, but
nobody's been able to capture a big foot. I mean
that doesn't you know, unless they're disappearing into an no
other dimension. Howey explain that six' ten time for traffic
and whether together foot you see The?

Speaker 4 (46:04):

you who saw The legend Of Boggy, creek and he

Speaker 3 (50:56):
DIDN'T i don't think it to fit. ANYBODY i don't
think it looked good on anybody. Either All, right let's
let's stop talking about the ugly. Seventies let's talk about
what's going on. Today in twenty twenty, Five oilpak is
set to increase the supply of oil For Donald trump's
request or is this something they were planning to do, Anyway,
WELL i.

Speaker 16 (51:16):
Think it's because Of Donald trump's, uh not requests so,
much but his, presence, right you, know in, Fact Saudi
arabia really wanted to extend the production, cut, right but
he had a blowback not only from The trump administration
that's calling on them to produce more, oil but also From,

(51:37):
russia who you know apparently is getting along With Donald
trump a little, bit and The United Arab. Emirates SO
i think there's no doubt That President trump's relationship With
Saudi arabia made it a lot easier for them to
raise production than it normally would. Be And i'll take
it one step. Further in, Fact President trump has even

(51:58):
got a commitment From Audi arabia to invest over one
trillion dollars into The United.

Speaker 1 (52:04):
States, so make.

Speaker 16 (52:06):
No mistake about, It the era Of trump is. Already you,
know his policies are already pushing down oil prices and
making them lower than they would have, been you, know
if it weren't you, know If Joe biden were in,
office for.

Speaker 3 (52:18):
Example, yeah truly Amazing and of, course you, know The
saudia's are going to be involved in whatever peace talks
eventually take place Between ukraine And. Russia that's where they're
going to take. Place Resident trump is going to be
Visiting Saudi. Arabia so clearly he's been cultivating that relationship
because he understands in order to bring inflation under, control
he needs to get the price of oil down so
that everything could be made more more.

Speaker 16 (52:39):
Cheaply you're absolutely, correct and you, KNOW i mean a
lot of people were, Complaining, Oh Donald, trump he's just
going to raise. Prices and when he starts, talking you,
know putting tariffs on you, Know, Canada, mexico it's going
to make casoline prices go through the. Roof that's what
we heard from, everybody, Right and, amazingly even with the,
teriff prices are going. Down and it could be The

(53:02):
Donald trump peace.

Speaker 24 (53:03):
Dividend.

Speaker 16 (53:04):
Right you, know if you get a, ceasefire you know
In ukraine they lift those sanctions On russian, oil it
solves a lot of. Problems not only does it bring
more oil in the, market you get, Peace you save
a lot of money on inflation because we're not writing
a check for a war every, month and so you,
know the peace dividend is, real and it's already shown

(53:25):
up in the price of.

Speaker 3 (53:25):
Oil i'm, assuming, Though, phil that the price of gasoline
will practical the way Most americas look at when you
go to the pump and fill, up the price of
gasoline is likely to go up before it goes. Down
we're getting ready to go into those summer blends here pretty.
Soon that's always more expensive to, produce.

Speaker 16 (53:42):
Right it, is, Yeah and in, fact we're probably looking
at prices near the. LOW i, mean if you look
at the cost of, oil it's the lowest level in two.
Years and the nice part about, that, though is that
at least we're starting from a lower price level than
we would have right if we kept the same, course

(54:02):
oil prices would have been seventy or eighty dollars a,
barrel and that's the biggest costs in a gallon of.
Gasoline so even though prices will go up in the,
spring because they always, do they're going up at a lower,
pace you. Know AND i think a lot of people
In texas are, looking you, know a call of two
blends of gasoline right. NOW i, mean if you look

(54:23):
at the price of. Regular i'mletted you don't send her three.
Dollars but if you want that fancy premium stuff that
you know you put in that big fancy car of,
yours you know you can pay it a lot, more
almost almost fifty to seventy cents.

R H.

Speaker 3 (01:10:29):
Daylight, yeah here we go, again and we're all gonna
complain about. It but at the end of the, day
there's still gonna do. It you're still gonna switch On
sunday morning to daylight saving. Time spring. Forward you know
how that. Works so we move ahead one hour too.
Am it becomes three, am and you lose that hour
sleep that you gained in the, fall and you know

(01:10:52):
it reaks a little havoc with your body. Clock we
know that For we know that for a. Fact there's
plenty of studies that show us that that's the. Case here,
is by the, Way Kenneth, wright he's at The university Of, Colorado,
boulder on how easy it would be to get rid
of daylight saving time if we'd make the commitment to doing,
that and the health impacts of switching to daylight saving.

Speaker 42 (01:11:12):
Time, actually if we chose, to we can actually stop
it right now. Today we don't have to make any new.
Laws in nineteen sixty, Six congress past what was called
The Uniform Time, act and this is what led us
to utilize and develop the daylight saving time change and
establish the same change and all the states unless the
states chose not to. Change and so states Like hawaii

(01:11:34):
And arizona are on permanent standard time right, now and
the federal law allows us as people as in our
states to change to permanent standard time right.

Speaker 8 (01:11:44):
Now there's no new federal law that needs to be.

Speaker 42 (01:11:46):
Changed, yeah so we wouldn't need to change the federal
law to go to permanent daylight saving. Time but based
upon what we, know the evidence suggests that.

Speaker 8 (01:11:55):
That might not be the best.

Speaker 42 (01:11:56):
Option the better option would be is to adopt permanent
standard time time from a health and safety perspective as.

Speaker 8 (01:12:03):
Well as our overall well.

Speaker 42 (01:12:04):
Being, yeah the change itself is certainly a, challenge and
it has severe consequences for our health and our.

Speaker 8 (01:12:11):
Safety give you some.

Speaker 42 (01:12:12):
Examples when we make that daily shift forward every, spring that,
week we have an increased risk of fatal crushes at the,
wheel we have an increased risk of heart, attacks and
increase risks bricks of, strokes and these risks are all.

Speaker 8 (01:12:28):
Because we have this population.

Speaker 42 (01:12:29):
Event everyone's doing this at the same, time and we're
getting less, sleep and we're waking at a time where
our brain says we should still be, asleep not, awake
and that's. Risky and so when we think about permanent
daylight saving time itself versus permanent standard, time permitent daylight
saving time may even be worse than the change that

(01:12:49):
we currently.

Speaker 8 (01:12:50):
Do and for, example, here if we look at across
The United.

Speaker 42 (01:12:54):
States we will have one hundred and plus more days
on average where sunrise won't will occur much. Later and
so if we look at even your home Like, Orlando,
florida there'll be up more than one hundred and fifteen
days where the sun won't rise until after seven thirty,
am and another eighty days example for where doesn't it
rise until eight. Am and so when we think about,

(01:13:16):
that that means that we have riskier commutes in the,
morning because the risk ist time to be on the
road for fatal accidents is in the, morning not in
the evening.

Speaker 3 (01:13:25):
Hours all, Right so risk your morning drive and that'll be.
Fun On, Monday i'll be on. VACATION i won't be
out there slugging it out there with, you but that'll Be,
monday of. Course and then you, know basically what he said,
was you know switching the permitted daylight saving time would
be even worse than you, know partial daylight saving time
for your biological. Clock we need to stick to standard

CLASS act i listened to what you Said About sevester

(01:29:43):
turner on, his PASSING and, i thought, you know it'd
have been really easy to complain about the previous administration
because you're facing this three hundred million dollar budget deficit
that the previous administration really didn't do. Anything about but
you didn't mention it. At all you kept everything on the.
High road but now that you have to have a,
hiring freeze it kind of makes me wonder what you're

(01:30:05):
thinking here as far as going forward to the. HIRING
freeze i guess is a, Good start but Does the
City of houston need to get a doze like what
we're seeing at the state in the. Federal level could
do you think that maybe you could find three hundred
million dollars worth of waste in the city of or
duplication In the City of houston that could maybe make
up that. Budget deficit.

Speaker 43 (01:30:26):
Well that's a lot of how much time. You got,
OF course i think, we can and not, only that,
we must and we Started. Last may, in fact we.
STARTED today i. GOT there i grew Up, in houston
been in state government for, fifty Years so i've worked
For the City. OF houston i know of their waste
and duplication and, quite frankly corruption and conflicts. Of interest

(01:30:50):
so we Started last JANUARY when i was, sworn in
aware of too much government In the City. Of houston
you can drive buying to see construction projects and they're
just not getting done because they're.

Speaker 24 (01:31:05):
Not efficient so we talked to.

Speaker 43 (01:31:07):
DEPARTMENT heads i put a new team, in place and
Then in may we realized we need an outside professional
review of, city government so We hired Ernest. And young
they turned into report three. Weeks ago the city has
more employees per captare than any other, major city so
we're in the process of looking at a retirement recommendation

(01:31:32):
strong recommendation. For some but in the meantime we've ordered
a freeze on employment excluding fire. And police sixty percent of,
our budget by, the way its fire. And police so
we have to, be smart we have to have a
method and, QUITE frankly doge is a whole. Another operation

(01:31:52):
ours is methodical. Thought out the morale is good in fire,
and police the morale quite frank among city. Employees good
i'll go to. STEP further i think the Morale of houstonians.
Is good we are going in the. Right DIRECTION but
i was left with some major major challenges and the
course bringing them up at the news of the Loss

(01:32:14):
Of sylvester turner was not the, appropriate TIME but I
did inherit, a Mess and i'm not shy about explaining
that most of the inefficiencies Are. Across houston it's in.
Our procurement forty percent of our supervisors supervised three or
fewer people in the. Previous years everybody was just made. A,

(01:32:37):
supervisor well that costs a lot, of money so we have.

Speaker 24 (01:32:41):
A shortfall we're going to get there.

Speaker 43 (01:32:43):
Through efficiencies i'm going to DO everything i can And
when i'm completely Confident that i've cut out the waste
and duplication and the conflicts. OF interest i Will let
Houstonians know i've cleaned the. Place UP now i need.
Your help and what form that help, Will be i'm
not sure at, this Point but i've been. VERY transparent

(01:33:05):
i inherited a city that has problems and budget had
been kicked down the road.

you have unveiled phase one plans for a two Billion DOLLAR.
George r. Ground expansion what can you tell us? About
that that's.

Speaker 43 (01:33:35):
Based on, user fees no cost to city residents. Or
taxpayers it's the state's hotel. Occupancy tax three miles in
every Direction From. George brown we were becoming less competitive
in the convention and. Visitors experience we were falling behind other, Major,
Cities Dallas, Santa.

caroline levitt Who's The white, house spokesperson said that was.
Fake news there was never going to be an executive

(01:43:37):
order yesterday to End The, education department but it's probably
going to. BE ending i think what they are waiting
to do is to figure out what to do with
some of the programs administered By the Department, of education
and not whether or not they're going to. Keep them

(01:44:00):
i'll Give you i'll give you a prime example school.
Lunch program you know there's gonna be a school. Lunch program,
you know there's gonna be federal subsidies for. School lunch
it's just that if you don't have an, education department
you need somebody else in order to administer, the program
which should not be. A problem wouldn't it make more
sense anyway for the school lunch program to be Administered

(01:44:23):
by Health And Human SERVICES. Robert F kennedy. Junior's department,
it's food. It's food we supposedly want to switch to
a healthier model when it comes to. Feeding kids so
why wouldn't You put Health In human services in charge
of the school. Lunch program it only makes sense so

(01:44:47):
you can take those individual programs and you can figure
out who is going, to administer, you know federal aid to,
public schools school lunch programs and those types. Of things
you don't need the education department in order to be
able to make. That happen you just have to figure
out who's going to. Do it Seven forty time for
