Good morning, Jimmy, and good morning everyone, five oh one
on KTRHR.

Speaker 7 (01:31):
Top story.

Speaker 8 (01:32):
Our country needs law and order. Alcatraz is I would say.

Speaker 6 (01:36):
The ultimate President Trump at the White House yesterday, serious
about rebuilding and reopening Alcatraz for our country's most violent criminals.
Not as serious about that image of him as the
pope that had the Left in a temper tantrum.

Speaker 8 (01:51):
You mean they can't take a joke. You don't mean
the Catholics, You mean the fake news media, not the
Catholics loved it.

Speaker 6 (01:57):
Trump also talked about his plan to pay illegal aliens
to self deport More on that coming up at five
point thirty. He also promised again that social Security and
Medicaid will not be cut in his big beautiful bill,
with the GOP hoping to have this on his desk
by Independence Day.

Speaker 5 (02:14):
Failure is not an option.

Speaker 6 (02:16):
We have to get it done, Senate Majority of the Leader,
John Thune on Fox The President had a very productive
first one hundred days in office. Don't expect him to
slow down over the next hundred.

Speaker 9 (02:26):
By the time they get to the end of their terror,
particularly in this case, the second term, it's very hard
to accomplish anything, so that hour's last is running here.

Speaker 6 (02:35):
On the Trump presidency, Newsmax contributor Jeffrey Lord things Trump
will probably spend the next one hundred days focusing on
tariffs and cutting trade deals. You could expect drama on
Capitol Hill today with Treasury Secretary Scott Besson testifying for
the House Appropriations Committee about President Trump's proposed budget.

Speaker 7 (02:54):
Five ZHO three.

Speaker 6 (02:55):
The administration continues to make progress on trade deals. Commerce
Secretary how Lutnik wants you to be patient.

Speaker 10 (03:02):
These things are coming, but you gotta be patient.

Speaker 11 (03:04):
Now.

Speaker 10 (03:04):
We're going to get some deals done pretty soon. The
President will decide when he announces it.

Speaker 6 (03:09):
Lutnick on Fox Business. Meantime, the new Liberal Prime Minister
of Canada. Mark Carney visits the White House today to
talk trade and other things.

Speaker 12 (03:19):
President did praise Carney last week, and Carney said of
his phone call with the President that it was very constructive.
He said his government will fight to get the best
deal for Canada that he knows the discussions will not
be easy. But as for Canada becoming the US's fifty
first state, Carney has said this will never happen.

Speaker 6 (03:34):
Jessica Rosenthal reporting overnight training is down. DEWN futures off
two hundred and sixty four points this morning after the
markets closed down yesterday. If you ask anybody watching the
mainstream media, they will tell you that a recession is coming.

Speaker 7 (03:49):
Investors, though, don't see it.

Speaker 13 (03:51):
If we look at hard economic data. Currently, no sign
of a recession. Just this past Friday, non farm payroll
numbers came in better than expected, showing one hundred and
seventy seven thousand jobs added.

Speaker 6 (04:04):
KTRH Moneyman Passion says soft economic data like consumer sentiment surveys,
show that it's primarily Democrats who are worried about the
economy right now. After holding interest rates steady in March,
the Federal Reserve meets today with no changes expected.

Speaker 5 (04:19):
Economist E. J.

Speaker 14 (04:20):
And Tony says the FED has become too political.

Speaker 15 (04:24):
It's amazing what a difference a president makes, whether it's
a Republican or a Democrat, seems to determine whether not
the FED can weigh in on something.

Speaker 7 (04:31):
It's ridiculous.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
And as for a possible rate cut, I.

Speaker 15 (04:35):
Think the Fed's likely going to stay put. We're going
to see that bear out from today's meeting. Unfortunately, though
the FED shouldn't be trying to separate. The FEDS should
be following.

Speaker 14 (04:43):
Rates, following the markets, and not the DEM's agenda.

Speaker 5 (04:48):
Jeff Biggs News Radio seven forty K Thierie it.

Speaker 7 (04:51):
Is now five to ZHO five.

Speaker 6 (04:52):
Oil prices this morning are up almost two dollars to
fifty eight dollars and eighty one cents this after falling
to four year yesterday, driven by OPEC's decision to accelerate production.
Exun Mobile's eight billion dollar plant near Corpus Christie is
moving forward. Texas Oil executive Jay Young says the jobs
that would come with construction should outweigh any concerns about

(05:15):
the plants.

Speaker 16 (05:15):
Because they do see the pluses and they see that
the huge benefits if I can bring to their city,
so good.

Speaker 7 (05:23):
To them again.

Speaker 6 (05:24):
This is north of Corpus Christie, which is already considered
by Forbes to be the fastest growing port in the country.
Gasoline prices check in this morning at two to seventy
one a gallon across Houston, down nine cents over the
last month, fifty cents cheaper than last year when Joe
Biden was president.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
Five ZHO five.

Speaker 6 (05:42):
At the Texas Legislature, lawmakers strike a deal on property taxes.
It would increase the homestead exemption for most homeowners to
one hundred and forty thousand dollars the average homeowner, which
saved three hundred and sixty three dollars a year. Still
needs to be approved by both chambers and signed by
Governor Greg Gave. Elsewhere, the state Senate is debating a
bill to destroy the Texas Lottery Commission.

Speaker 17 (06:05):
There is no way to reorganize, restructure, or restore the
integrity of the government run Texas Lottery.

Speaker 6 (06:12):
State Senator Bob Hall called the commission a quote criminal conspiracy.
There are multiple investigations into questionable lottery winnings. One involves
an out of state investor who brought up nearly every
winning combination to win a drawing and double their money.
A deputy involved shooting over night in Harris County, where

(06:32):
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says that they were called to a
report of a suspicious suspicious vehicle. Shots were fired. The
person driving that car is dead, no deputies injured at all,
and we're still waiting for more details on exactly what happened.

Speaker 7 (07:06):
Weather Traffic.

Speaker 18 (07:08):
For every day, I drive a lot, so I listened
for the talk for every one.

Speaker 19 (07:11):
There's always something new every day Used Radio seven ktrh.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
That's that's a dangerous job you're doing there, George straight,
but not as dangerous as a real firefighter. Do you
have one of the toughest jobs in America? What makes
a job tough? What do you think a tough job?

Speaker 18 (07:29):
Is it?

Speaker 3 (07:30):
Poll found the toughest jobs in America are firefighter number one,
construction worker number two, member of the military number three,
a doctor, number four, a cop, number five, paramedic number six,
seventh was astronaut, eighth was farmer, ninth air traffic controller,

(07:55):
and number ten oil worker. Sorry, teachers make the list,
not the top ten anyway, although this is a National
Teacher Appreciation Week, you don't have one of Well, I
think teachers do have a tough job, maybe not one
of the top ten. It depends on what you're concerning here.
You know, tough. Here's what all ten of these jobs

(08:19):
have in common. They have to have at least two
of these four things. They're either physically demanding, have long hours,
involve high stakes decisions, and there's an element of danger.
And that's probably true of all those things. So based
on that criteria, I don't disagree with the list. Firefighter,
construction worker, member of the military, doctor copp, paramedic, astronaut, farmer,

(08:42):
air traffic controller, oil worker. You know, we can quipple
about some of these in substitute here, but I would
agree these are all tough jobs. My question would be,
should the toughest jobs in America received the best salaries
in America. Should the tougher your job is, should you
receive more money for doing that job? Seems logical, doesn't it?

(09:04):
So why is it we don't. The average firefighter in Houston,
Texas makes about sixty six almost sixty seven thousand dollars
a year. That's not exactly high paid for the most
dangerous job. Although I will say this about being a
firefighter and fire. If you're a firefighter, feel free to
weigh in on this. It seems to me that fire

(09:26):
being a firefighter is long periods of boredom followed by
brief periods of tremendous excitement in danger. In other words,
when there's a fire going on, I mean, it's it's
full boar ahead. It is huge, hugely to physically demanding.
It is stressful, it is it is all the things
you can imagine. And of course, the rest of the

(09:47):
time you're waiting for a fire or if you're getting
a call you know, cac stuck up in a tree
or something that's not exactly dangerous, but but you know
you're getting you're getting paid to have the know how
to put out a fire. So why don't we pay
fire first more? If the toughest jobs in America should
receive the best pay. Then we kind of need to
flip the script here, don't we as far as what

(10:08):
we compensate these people? Five ten time for traffic and
whether together sheep rocker, good lord, I.

Speaker 5 (10:14):
Like the little thing that goes. I had fun with that.
But do you work in construction?

Speaker 4 (10:19):
I have just very briefly. I sucked at measuring and
you know how you have to make the.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
Old math Yeah at each other double math thing. Yeah
that mathing.

Speaker 5 (10:26):
Pipe fitters should make more than ball players.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
Let's first of all, we got to turn this snooze off, Terry,
because my po Peel's pocket radar here is showing a
few little wet spots. Freeways are a little moist this
morning too. I noticed the hardy bond. And if you're
coming down from the Woodlands, got some wet freeway spots
here twenty two minutes into downtown, it's like it's humid
or something.

Speaker 5 (10:46):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
Coming down from the sticks Cleveland Roman Forests, we're in
good shape. On fifty nine from Humble in twenty minutes
here and two ninety we are looking good. Grand Parkway,
those of you who had a Grand March at your wedding,
haveing a nice ride in so far to the westleap
were just bringing it down a notch for the for
the roadways. Skymike in the USA Rbresorts dot Com traffic center.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
From r ktr H top tax defenders twenty four are
whether center Terry Smith is back today. She has one
of the toughest jobs in America, mainly because of the
complaints that.

Speaker 7 (11:17):
We can work with Skymike.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
No, because no matter what you do, somebody's not happy
with you.

Speaker 7 (11:26):
Ask me how much I care.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
Oh, that's good. If you don't care, then it doesn't
matter much, does it.

Speaker 20 (11:32):
But I see not much I can do about how
happy or unhappy you are.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Well, if you wanted rain yesterday, you were pretty happy
because a lot of us got some heavy rain.

Speaker 20 (11:40):
Yeah, and there's more to come. This is the thing.
Our weather pattern is stuck, and I would I would
understand why someone would not be too pleased with this
weather pattern because I would probably share the same sentiment.
We've got this front that is stalled across Texas and
the Gulf Coast, and so several rounds of rain the

(12:01):
next several days and floodings are concerned for some of
the counties to the north of US, Montgomery being one
of them. Liberty in Washington as well. There's a floodwatch
until tomorrow morning. So there's a sixty percent chance of
showers and thunderstorms today. I think the bulk of the
rain will be later on today, like afternoon hours. Temperatures

(12:22):
load a bit eighties. There's a sixty percent chance more
of showers and storms tonight and tomorrow, forty percent chance
of rain Thursday, and then only a twenty percent chance
of getting wet Friday.

Speaker 7 (12:35):
Right now, Saturday looks drive. By the end of the week, the.

Speaker 20 (12:38):
Temperature is just a little bit cooler, up for sixties,
I should say, up for seventies to low eighties, So
once the rain winds down, it should be really nice.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
Right now, sixty nine at your officials, severe weather station
News Radio seven forty KTRH. I'm nineteen now here in
Houston's warning news. So little news from the state legislature. Yesterday,
they actually got something done in the Texas House. The
Texas House and the Texas Senate evidently have agreed on

(13:07):
a property tax relief bill. Here's the report from KXA
and television.

Speaker 21 (13:12):
Over the last handful of Sessions.

Speaker 22 (13:14):
Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas legislature have made property
tax relief a priority, with Abbot once again declaring it
an emergency item this session. While Texas Tribune Analysis said
these measures are working to lower tax bills, the Tax
Foundation still has Texas listed at the seventh highest property
tax rate in the nation.

Speaker 21 (13:33):
On Monday, the House Ways and Means Committee.

Speaker 22 (13:35):
Heard a host of property tax relief bills, including relief
proposals for first time home buyers, disabled veterans, and the elderly.
Most wide reaching, they discussed a pair of bills sent
over by the Senate to increase the homestead exemption from
one hundred thousand dollars to one hundred and forty thousand dollars,
which bill author Paul Bettencourt estimates will save the average
homeowner over three hundred and fifty dollars on their property

(13:58):
taxes annually.

Speaker 21 (13:59):
After hearing the bill, House Ways.

Speaker 22 (14:01):
And Means Committee Chair Morgan Myer announce they came to
a deal to send Bettencourt's bill to.

Speaker 21 (14:05):
The House floor.

Speaker 23 (14:06):
We have a recent agreement with the Senate going to
thank Lieutenant Governor, Chairman Bank Court, Speaker. Obviously, the governor
as well for all of us working together to provide
meaningful property tax relief.

Speaker 5 (14:17):
I'm glad we got this job done.

Speaker 22 (14:19):
In exchange, Bettancourt carried Meyer's property tax that we've built
in the Senate Local Government Committee, increasing the business exemption
from twenty five hundred dollars to one hundred and twenty
five thousand. In a social media post on Monday afternoon,
Bettancourt called this a great start to Small Business Week,
adding that he estimates this second bill would reduce the

(14:39):
average property tax burden for businesses in Texas by twenty
five hundred dollars.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
All right, so business makes out a little bit better
than homeowners do. Yeah, the property tax relief going for
one thousand, two hundred and forty thousand for the home
for the exemption doesn't really help that much, does it.
I guess it helps some, but you know, knowing what
home values have been, you know, one hundred and forty
thousand dollars exemption, so it still leave you liable over

(15:05):
a whole lot of a whole lot of property taxes.
Five twenty two. Let's get to traffic in weather together. Hey,
sky Mike, what this is about?

Speaker 4 (15:12):
Well, I got big shots that need to watch out
on Grand Parkway northbound Kingsland Boulevard. Thank you, it's waking
me up on this Monday morning too. It's a heavy
truck accident. It looks like everybody's okay. The problem is
the fuel spill. That's a lot of diesel there. It's
right lane northbound before you get to the Kdie Freeway
on Grand park Way West. Interestingly, you could take Fry

(15:32):
or Kingsland get around all that mess.

Speaker 5 (15:34):
Forty five North Ghetto.

Speaker 4 (15:36):
Dave is actually going the other way on your north
freeway and he had a little take on who's got
a hard job?

Speaker 11 (15:42):
Yeah, our police officers fighters the job that they have
to do.

Speaker 5 (15:46):
It's very, very dangerous and if you.

Speaker 7 (15:48):
Could keep it safe heading out of the ghetto, I'm
going there.

Speaker 24 (15:51):
Well, let's take them.

Speaker 5 (15:53):
It's all good. Out of the hood police and firefighters.

more of our top stories. It's a Tuesday morning. Here's clip.

Speaker 7 (16:48):

Speaker 25 (16:50):
There's a UNI accident on the Parkway this morning.

Speaker 5 (16:52):
Another update coming up.

Speaker 19 (16:54):
Here we go again, extremely heavy rainfall Youth Radio seven
forty KTRH.

Speaker 3 (17:01):
I think Trump says he's serious about alcatraz I. Thought
he was just doing a metaphor, you know, just just
you know, alcatraz is tough. This is what we need
to do. This is you know, you know, we make
sixty million dollars a year in tourism, all of alcatraz
I think the parks bars will wait a minute, we
can't turn this back into a prison, not to mention

(17:23):
what it would cost to rehabilitate the place anyway, the
President said he was serious about it. Last night, the
Gupville panel was having fun with the story Kennedy and
Tyros talking about the idea of bringing back Alcatraz.

Speaker 21 (17:36):
I have to say, like, I.

Speaker 26 (17:39):
Like opening, reopening Alcatraz a lot better than invading Greenland
or sending people to Al Salvador or reopening Gitmo Bay. Like,
at least it's here, And I think you should make
it fun because it is that the currents are very precarious.
The water is very cold, it is sharky, and if
you like, they should have a diving plan. And it's like,

(18:00):
if you can survive and swim to freedom, then you
may leave. Yeah, And I think that would make our
prison system a little bit more interesting.

Speaker 27 (18:11):
It is kind of a paris. It is kind of
like a nice disincentive if you're in another country to
see this and go. Maybe I won't go, or you
might self deport just because you've heard about this.

Speaker 28 (18:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 29 (18:23):
As long as they chum the waters up real good,
that's all. I have no This is a tremendous idea,
and we've had four years where criminals have had their way.
They have nothing to be afraid of. Even if they
get arrested, they don't have to worry about bail. So
there's really been no fear for the criminal element in
this country. They feel like they've been running things. So

(18:44):
now you have a place. And I also think this
could help him with the issue that people are so
worried about people getting their day.

Speaker 7 (18:52):
In court and where to hold them.

Speaker 29 (18:54):
So I think what we could do is when we
round these illegals up and we give them as I
talked about giving.

Speaker 5 (18:59):
The court date, Yes, we will bring them back over.

Speaker 29 (19:03):
Where they will be house at Alcatraz while we wait
for that court date, as soon as the renovations are finished,
say twenty twenty, twenty thirty eight. Yes, you know, so
we just added like you will go from We're gonna
go to Al Salvador for now, right, and then once
Alcatraz is cleaned up, we'll bring you over where you'll
sit in there for you know, what is it a

(19:24):
typical average person when they're given their court date, when
they get across the border here, it's like ten to
twelve years, so within the next fifteen to twenty years,
you will.

Speaker 5 (19:31):
Have your court date.

Speaker 29 (19:32):
By that time, we'll get all the bells and whistles
figured out, and everything will be great in the meantime,
and enjoy yourself.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
Kind of kind of like that idea, don't you. Five
twenty seven. Here on Houston's Morning News, it is time
to take a look at your money. Here's Jeff Bellinger and.

Speaker 25 (19:49):

quarter percent to three quarters percent. Economists do not expect
the Fed to make a change in interest rates this week.

Speaker 7 (22:00):
Thank you, Jimmy. Five thirty two on KTRH.

Speaker 6 (22:02):
Our top story, President Trump reveals his plan to pay
illegals to self deport. He's using Joe Biden's CBP one app,
offering one thousand bucks in a stipend and a plane
ticket home. EHS Secretary Christy Noam says it's a good deal.

Speaker 32 (22:18):
It saves US thousands and thousands of dollars, and it
also is a much safer situation for officers and for
those in communities, and it gives that illegal an opportunity
to come back. To the United States of America.

Speaker 6 (22:29):
No, I'm on Fox. The left temper tantrum over the
deportations continues, but political columnists that he's scary, says, the
Democrats were the one who made this mess in the first.

Speaker 18 (22:39):
Place, and it sucks to be the person have to
clean up that mess.

Speaker 33 (22:42):
But that person is Donald Trump, and he is cleaning
it up as quickly as he possibly can.

Speaker 7 (22:46):
It is messy.

Speaker 18 (22:47):
Donald Trump has to be the one to do it,
and he was elected to do it.

Speaker 6 (22:49):
And now the Dems are doing everything they can to
stop him. They also have some tough questions to answer.

Speaker 34 (22:56):

Giving a platform to a notorious drug cartel that has

this is just another reason why the trust in the

And they did that for four straight years.

She's doubling down on it.

Speaker 38 (25:01):
I don't know that I'm the future of the Democratic Party,

Turns out this isn't even the universal school choice that
we've been led to believe it is.

What happened, Why it happened, The information you need to

Speaker 5 (27:26):
Now back to Houston's Morning News.

Speaker 3 (27:30):
Wish you could go home again? Five thirty eight is
our time here in Houston's Morning News. There's a parenting
trend that's hot. Here's the new here's the latest. No,
it's not helicopter parenting. We've had enough of that. It's
called I said FAFO. It maybe FAFO. I don't know.
Fatho parenting. It's short for f around and find out.

(27:54):
So you know what the F stands for now, right,
the F around and find out. The idea behind him
is to let This is going to sound revolutionary to
you unless you're a baby boomer. The idea is to
let your kids make their own mistakes and learn how
to deal with the consequences. Just obviously not when it's
a safety concern, right, like running out into the middle

(28:15):
of the street. Oh, you want to run out in
the middle of street with traffic, Yeah, go ahead, No,
you don't do that. But here's an example. Let's say
you know it's going to be a super rainy day
and your kid's going off to school and it's going
to rain any minute, and they don't want to wear
a raincoat. You know, your typical helicopter parent would sit

(28:38):
there and try to reason with them and rationalize with them. Now, Johnny,
it's going to rain. We're pretty sure it's going to rain.
You don't want to get wet? Do you my not
wear a raincoat? No, you need to wear your and
sit there, have a ten minute conversation trying to rationalize
with them why they need to wear a raincoat, when

(28:59):
in reality, you could just say, Okay, you don't want
to wear a raincoat, don't wear a raincoat, but if
it rains, and then you'll let them go. Let them
go out there, let the rain come down, let them
get soaked to the skin and miserable. Guess what they
just learned that maybe I should have listened to mom
and taken a raincoat versus the other way around, you know,

(29:22):
where you spent ten minutes arguing with them and didn't
make much EdWay anyway. I think it's a return to
more traditional parenting, and maybe even more important than that,
it's a return to the idea of allowing your kids
to figure this stuff out for themselves, because that's a
part of adulting is to learn how to deal with

(29:42):
these things yourself, to make critical decisions, critical thinking. We
don't have a lot of critical thinkers left, and this
is a great way I think to get back to
redeveloping that five forty time for trafficking others together have
these struggles.

Speaker 4 (29:56):
You know, Vihara racers have something called a Western built
and she says, I misbehaved one time in Pasadena when
I was little one time.

Speaker 43 (30:05):
That's it.

Speaker 5 (30:06):
That's it, and it got fixed pretty quick.

Speaker 7 (30:08):
There you go.

Speaker 5 (30:08):
Let's do something Crosby.

Speaker 4 (30:10):
We've got ninety Crosby Freeway right after twenty one hundred
reports of a wreck.

Speaker 5 (30:14):
Boy, I believe it.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
Look at the Scooch as you're coming in from Cranick Road,
and I know some of you hard hats will give
me some tip line on this, give me some lineage.
It's too far out for us to see on our
Transtar camps, and I don't think I'll be able to
get any air support due to the weather. So watch
out inbound in ninety. If I tends a route reroute
for you, do it Grand Parkway North Kingsland. That's has
met on seeing truck wreck. Everybody's fine. We're getting by

(30:37):
it just fine. If you want to do Fry Road,
that's a good way around to ninety. It's Steve for Burton, Dude.

Speaker 24 (30:43):
Burton, right on through Chapel Hill.

Speaker 6 (30:45):
A little bit wet, a little bit rizily, but people
are moving and I finally know what a grand march is.
I still don't know what you mean by the canyon
or the President says.

Speaker 4 (30:53):
Brother, all right, well, you know people out in two
ninety we have a lot of Polish German check and
that grand march is a fun thing to do at
your wedding. Terry, I sent you video of the president's
heads downtown, did I know? Not the President's bus. It's
like it had four of them. They're right where the
Katie Freeway merges with forty five. As you're making that
curve around over to the right, you're usually too busy

(31:13):
fighting traffic.

Speaker 5 (31:14):
And the canyon.

Speaker 4 (31:15):
In case you don't know, need a little glossary, that's
downtown where I sixty nine and two eighty eight merge.
It's like twenty lanes of crazy like that. For now,
the canyon's okay, Terry. I'm in the Generator Supercenter dot
Com Traffic Center.

Speaker 3 (31:29):
Whether for now it's okay too, from our KTRH Generator
super Center twenty four Whether Center.

Speaker 7 (31:33):
Terry is here.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
It's a little bit later this morning when things are
probably going to start to get a little bit weather.

Speaker 5 (31:39):
Yeah, we've got.

Speaker 20 (31:41):
A it's very humid out there and there's a lot
of clouds, and I'm not surprised if we're seeing a
little bit of drizzle here and there, but there's no
real showers showing up on the radar at the moment,
but I suspect that will begin to change a little
later on this morning. And the big concern is the

(32:02):
prolonged period of rain and the potential for heavy rain
that may cause some flooding, especially counties just to the
north of Harris County, and that does include Montgomery and
Liberty and Washington Counties, Walker County, and San Jacino as well.
We may get some very heavy rain there that could
result in some flooding. So we'll be watching that sixty

(32:24):
percent chance of showers and storms today, tonight, Tomorrow, a
forty percent chance of more rain Thursday. We'll start to
dry out by the end of the week. We'll see
our temperatures in the low to mid eighties today, Tomorrow
and Thursday, and then with that dryer air Friday and Saturday,
hids in the upper seventies to low eighties temperature.

Five fifties our time. Eja an Tony, I'd love talking
with EJ. He's economist with the Heritage Foundation. There are
more than a few people that think that maybe the
Federal Reserve has become a little bit too political. Is
there a chance that the Fed's decisions, the J. Powell's
decisions are not based on what's best for the economy,
but maybe what's best best for economics or not economics

(33:21):
actually for political reasons. That could that be a possibility.
We'll talk to EJ next. First, though, traffic and whether
the govern go ahead. Scammon, just for EJ and Tony.
You've got Crosby Freeway.

Speaker 4 (33:32):
That's a WRECT inbound at twenty one hundred and boy,
could we could take it ten?

Speaker 5 (33:37):
That might be a way to get around all that
business on.

Speaker 4 (33:39):

Five fifty three is our time here in Houston's morning news, Right,
j Paul?

Speaker 7 (34:53):
Is he a political creature?

Speaker 15 (34:54):
Well?

Speaker 3 (34:55):
Yeah, probably so? Does he not like President Trump? That
this seems pretty your parent? After all, Trump did threaten
to fire him at all. He later said he wasn't
going to fire him. He j Antoni joins us. He's
an economists with the Heritage Foundation. And of course I
think that President Trump suspects that some of the moves
that j. Powell's making at the Fed are anti as

(35:15):
much anti Trump moves as they are good for the
economy moves.

Speaker 5 (35:18):
Do you agree with that?

Speaker 11 (35:21):
I think that's a pretty fair assessment, Jimmy.

Speaker 18 (35:23):
I mean, it's.

Speaker 11 (35:23):
Amazing how this guy's tone, Jerome Palell's tone has completely
changed with Trump being at White House versus when Biden
was there talking about how how quickly they were going
to cut rates. They did, in fact cut rates last year,
talked about a lot more rate cuts coming in twenty
twenty five, and now all of a sudden, even though
the underlying data, and that's important, the underlying data hasn't changed,

(35:46):
the story has changed completely, and now who knows if
we're ever going to get rate cuts this year?

Speaker 3 (35:51):
Yeah, I think an argument could be made. Don't you
agree that inflation has gotten down around that two percent
area where they said that it needed to be before
they would consider more rate cuts. That seems to be
the case now, don't you think, Well.

Speaker 11 (36:06):
Exactly, in fact, the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas produces
an alternative measure of inflation essentially, and that's down to
one point eight percent. On top of that, if we
look at any of the official measures of inflation, whether
you want to look at the consumer price Index or
the personal consumption expenditures price indecks, all of those things
show no increases and prices between February and March. In

(36:30):
other words, inflation is really stalled out, and we can
expect the annual inflation rate to hit that two percent
target probably pretty soon. So if you were going to
actually cut rates, now would be the time to do so.

Speaker 5 (36:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (36:42):
Well, J.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
Poul's excuse seems to be tariffs, the unknown of terraffs.
He thinks the teriffs might add to the inflation rate.
Do you agree or disagree?

Speaker 11 (36:51):
I think that's absolute nonsense. Look, tariffs, if they increase
the cost of item A and consumers spend more on
item A, now consumers have less to spend item B,
which means demand will fall for thing B, and that
means the price will fall for B. So you end
up seeing prices go up in one area and down
in another, and overall they stay flat. Tariffs, by definition,

(37:14):
are not inflationary. And what's really aggravating here, Jimmy, is
the fact that Jerome Powell, anytime he was asked about
Biden spending trillions of dollars we didn't have, and asked,
is that going to be inflationary? Will there be an
inflationary impact? What did he say? He said, we don't
comment on fiscal policy. We don't comment on what president,
whether president or Congress does. Now, my goodness, how things

(37:37):
have changed. He doesn't even wait to be asked a
question on tariff's He just goes out in public and
starts opining about it and saying, how these actions are
going to cause inflation?

Speaker 7 (37:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (37:46):
I think the irony of all this is that Jerome
Powell was originally picked by President Trump. So but that again,
that was during the first term, and there were a
lot of people who were picked based on recommendations he
got from people who maybe did not have President Trump's
best interested heart.

Speaker 11 (38:02):
That's exactly right. And although you're right he was elevated
by Trump to the chairman slot, he was originally put
on the Board of Governors by Barack Obama. And the
only reason Obama picked him is because Obama needed someone
who has at least registered as a Republican so that
he could get Republicans in the Senate to confirm him.

Speaker 3 (38:22):
So how much longer do we have to deal with
Jay Powell? Obviously Trump is not going to fire him
at this point, So when does his term expire?

Speaker 11 (38:33):
His term's going to expire next year, and we can
definitely expect him to be replaced. I think Trump would
obviously like to do it sooner. The problem is, the
last thing this market needs right now is more uncertainty.
Let's be clear, the markets do not like Jerome Powell.
This guy promised us rates we're going to stay low
essentially indefinitely, and then gave us four seventy five basis

(38:55):
point hikes in a row. He continues to send mixed
messages to market. So markets don't like the guy. But
if you remove him, it's another element of uncertainty, and
that's the last thing we need right now. So Trump
is I think going to let him finish out that term,
which again will be next year.

Speaker 5 (39:12):
All right, EJ.

Speaker 3 (39:13):
Thanks as always appreciated economist EJ. And TONI he's with

Speaker 13 (43:50):
We're going to continue to monitor the hard economic data,
but right now that all still looks okay. Now, the
longer this uncertainty over tariffs go, the more that it's
it's going to impact the hard economic data.

Speaker 6 (44:02):
KTRH money man pat Chin says last week's jobs report
is just one example of why a recession, even if
we got one, wouldn't be major. The Federal Reserve kicks
off its main meetings today. They're expected to keep interest
rates in check, just like they did in March. Financial
expert Mitchell Fierstein told newsbats is because the Fed has

(44:23):
become politicized.

Speaker 34 (44:24):
I don't think that they want to make right cuts
because the Fed's become extremely political. I think that they
cut rates for political reasons in September fifty basis points,
and they shouldn't have.

Speaker 18 (44:32):
I think that they should have waited until this year
to cut rates.

Speaker 6 (44:35):

such a research might have been linked to the outbreak

that we did have the problem we had. It could
have been that we didn't have to honest what we said.
It could have been that we didn't have the problem
we had, he told reporters. The President signed the executive
order directing in the National Institute of Health and other
federal agencies to identify and terminate any biological research that

(47:20):
could pose a threat to public life in the US
White House, announcing that future federal funding for research involving
viruses with pandemic potential will also be prohibited through the
full scope of the BAND. In other words, we're not
going to participate in altering viruses to make them more
dangerous to human beings, because, as it turns out, accidents

(47:41):
happen and viruses get out. And if we were going
to do that kind of research, why would we be
funding somebody in China to do that research, a known
enemy of the United States. That doesn't That makes even
less sense, right, So that's good, that's good. I wonder

(48:02):
too if he's assigned an executive order yet which would
say that the United States will not follow any edicts
sit down by the United Nations as it relates to
any global pandemic in the future. In other words, we
will make our own decisions about how we choose as
a country to participate or not participate in whatever is

(48:23):
being suggested as best practices and dealing with whatever that
next pandemic may be. Because you know there's gonna be
another one six' ten high for traffic and. Weather, together
we're checking out the drive. Again here's Guy Mike.

i'm wondering if flash flooding is going to an issue
we're going to be dealing with, today, tomorrow and maybe
even a little bit On.

Speaker 20 (50:03):
Thursday so today is definitely a, concern especially for our
counties to the north and, East Montgomery, County Liberty, County
Washington county being some of the places that are under
the flood, watch and that is in effect until one

Things are fairly, quiet but more showers and storms are
expected to, develop especially as we head into the. Afternoon
heavy rainfall one two three inches of rainfall as. Possible
In Washington county where that little girl was swept, away
they had two to four inches of rainfall, yesterday so

(50:49):
any additional rainfall is going to only exasperate the situation.
There so it's best for all of us to be
weather or, aware even if you're not under the flood.

School choice is, good but what kind of choice do
you really get With texas school. Choice six twenty two
is our time here In houston's Morning. News Carol haynes
joins US at education policy enalyst and. Consultants she wrote
an article For The American thinker about The texas school choice.
BILL i think she thinks that maybe we've got sold
a little bit of a bill of goods. Here there's
a lot of limitations on this, Bill. Carol for one,

(53:46):
thing there's enough money in the kiddy here about a
billion dollars for about one hundred Thousand texas school students
to take advantage of school choice and to get that.
Stipend but there's over five million kids going to school In,
texas so we're talking about or rather small sampling to begin.

Speaker 5 (54:01):
With that's.

Speaker 40 (54:03):
Correct we actually have six point three million school age children. Here,
now granted that even in other schools where there's school choice,
bills not everybody will want to leave the public school
and use. It, however this is being marketed and so
to the public as a universal choice. Bill it's. Not

(54:24):
it's a.

Speaker 15 (54:25):
Lottery there are just a.

Speaker 40 (54:26):
Few, people a few, children who will be eligible to use,
it and in, fact the only way they can use
it is to have been in the public school prior
to using this, essay and THE essa simply is an
acronym for educational savings.

Speaker 3 (54:41):
Account, okay so if you go to a private school
now you're not. Eligible if you've never been in public,
school you've only been in private school or home, school
you're not eligible for.

Speaker 40 (54:50):
This, well they have to have been in a public
school about ninety percent of the, time just prior to using.
This So i'm not sure we could say that if
they at some point in the homeschool or private, school
but they have to just prior to using this have
been in a public. School they can't just Say i'm
in a private school and now all of a, SUDDEN
i get to use this. Money they have to the

(55:11):
point is to pull them out of the public.

Speaker 3 (55:13):
School, Okay so how does this? Work if your parent
who wants to participate in this and you, want you're
hoping you're going to be one of the lucky one hundred.
Thousand take us through the. Process what do you have
to do in order to make yourself? Eligible how do
you apply to the state for this?

Speaker 40 (55:27):
Money, well you would have to apply to The Texas
controller and there's a cap of twenty percent for the
number of participants by families who are earning more than
five hundred percent of the federal poverty, level and that
is around one hundred and sixty one thousand for a
family of. Four now here's the catch in this. Case

(55:48):
instead of instead of families being able to use THIS
esa this account and Say i'll just take this money
AND i will go AND i will buy the instructural
materials from my, child they have to go to the state.
Controller and in this, case the state controller office will

(56:09):
have selected several, vendors so they have to go to
state approved vendors and they have to they have to
apply for this and they have To this is where
they turn all of their their requirements in and there
for whatever they want. Funded and not only is there

(56:30):
tuition funded at a private, school but not at a.
Homeschool it would be funded at a private. School they
can have their instructural materials. Funded but again they have
to buy those materials through this. Vendor so everything is
go to the controller's, office go through these vendors and
then and then that's how you're going to get things

(56:53):
paid for and you're. Reimbursed, okay so you have to
know how it's often Done parasitty prefer having a credit
card where they can go buy the materials and be.

Speaker 3 (57:03):
Reimbursed you, Know, Carol Carol haynes again with this education
policy and listen, CONSULTANT i think a lot of parents
were under the impression anyway what was going to happen
was is that every student In texas HAS x amount
of dollars that go along with them to a public,
school that they would just be able to choose either
where what public school their child went, to or to

(57:25):
be able to take that money and put it towards
a private. Education that's not how the way this is
working at, all is?

Speaker 18 (57:30):
It?

Speaker 40 (57:31):
No but that's exactly what the public is being, told
Because i've had many calls people calling me and, saying,
hey CAN i now use this from my? Child, well
the answer is, no you simply. Cannot number, one you
probably make too much money and you just simply can't do.
That it's just going to be out of a. Lottery
it's just a pick and choose there and it will

(57:52):
pay for about one hundred thousand, students depending on how
much they we'll.

Speaker 3 (57:57):
Get all, right, WELL i guess it's a. Start it's,
something but it's not what we hoped it would be
at this, Point Carol, Haynes thank. You Education palsy analyst

News hollywood is still trying to digest the Latest trump
executive order regarding tariffs On. Hollywood oh you, know he's
doing this just to crank, him and he's cracking them all.
Right hollywood executives scrambling yesterday to interpret the president's call
for stiff tariffs on movies produced outside of The United,

(01:06:11):
states a bombshell, proposal according to The Los Angeles, times
that would upend how movies have been made for. Years
trump On sunday night announcing that he was authorizing one
hundred percent tariff on movies coming into our country they
are produced in foreign. Lands the, proposal like many Other
trump And post, tariffs is aimed at bringing a key
industry back. Home is that a bad? Idea hollywood used

(01:06:36):
to make movies In. Hollywood, that by the, way they
do a lot of filming of not only, movies but
television shows In vancouver In. Canada so there's another business
that The canadians might miss out on going, forward because
if all of a, sudden it's going to become cheaper
again to produce these things here in The United states

(01:06:57):
than it is to produce them. Overseas Kirk, cameron remember
him From Growing. Pains Here's Kirk cameron talking about.

Speaker 5 (01:07:04):
This hollywood used to be. Wonderful hollywood used to be.

Speaker 48 (01:07:06):
Good hollywood used to contribute to the moral fabric of our,
nation and many of theirs have now plummeted because people
aren't even showing up at the movies to see the
ones that they. Make SO i think That trump thinks
so far out of the box compared to so many
of the rest of, us and making more movies here In,
AMERICA i think is a great. Idea and if ever

(01:07:28):
we were to make a move like, this with artificial
intelligence and computer generated, imagery you really don't have to
go anywhere to make movies that take place In rome
Or dubai Or germany or anywhere like. That we've made
lots of films here and television. Shows this could impact

(01:07:48):
the Whole hollywood. Industry and there are so many talented
creative people here who are going to have more and more.
Jobs and SO i continue to think that this is
a very exciting time to be An american and a
very exciting time to work In.

Speaker 3 (01:08:02):
Hollywood, well and you know, what and maybe two in
addition to, that maybe this means that we can stop
providing is a state government incentives for filming here In. Texas,
right do you think of, better maybe better things we
could spend our taxpayer dollars on other than Subsidizing hollywood.
Movies maybe we can stop doing. That if it's going
to be less expensive to produce and shoot a film

(01:08:25):
here In texas than it is In canada Or Great,
britain then maybe we don't need to be Providing hollywood
with the stimulus to come.

only way to, you know be aggressive enough in the

democrats were so aggressive in allowing them in and, he
scary JOINS us dc Columnist At, The federalist welcome to.

Speaker 5 (01:32:42):
The show AT a.

Speaker 3 (01:32:45):
I Think the democrats are a little Surprised That president
trump you can actually kind of keep up with this level.
Of deportations.

Speaker 33 (01:32:55):
UH yeah i think a lot of people are looking
at this, and thinking at low it.

Speaker 18 (01:33:00):
Looks messy it's a little bit shocking.

Speaker 33 (01:33:02):
TO people i think you don't have a heart if
you hear some of these stories and, don't, think man
that's that's.

Speaker 18 (01:33:09):
ACTUALLY awful i feel for.

Speaker 5 (01:33:10):
That person but, YOU know i.

Speaker 33 (01:33:12):
Think that This when democrats gave away something they had
no right to, give away which was entry into this
country and a promise that these people, could stay this
was bound. To happen with someone who's campaigning, on no
you don't get to. Do that i'm not letting you.
Do that the country is not okay, With that our
voters are not okay. With that so when that, person

(01:33:35):
wins that person to happened to win, the election we're
seeing what. We SEE but i think of it much
the SAME way i think of what happened with in
the first couple months of, this administration with The With
elon musk's, doge initiative which was him coming in and
just laying off and dismissing thousands of. Government, EMPLOYEES yeah

(01:33:56):
I feel i feel to an extent for a lot
of these people who are losing. Their jobs but these
jobs should have never existed to. Begin with there should
have never been this promise that you get a six,
figure salary you can never, be fired you're accountable to,
Precisely nobody you're gonna have a. Massive, Pension, okay no
that's a promise that should have. Never existed and when

(01:34:19):
someone comes in and, rightfully says we're taking that away,
because no you're not gonna.

Speaker 18 (01:34:23):
The taxpayer isn't just going to.

Speaker 33 (01:34:24):
Give you, you know an endless supply, of money and you're
accountable to.

Speaker 18 (01:34:28):
No one, same thing same thing is what's going on with.

Speaker 33 (01:34:30):
These deportations we had, an administration we had a president.

Speaker 18 (01:34:35):
Who said we're letting, you.

Speaker 33 (01:34:37):
In and we're letting you in not just one to
one hundred two hundred, of you we're letting in ten million. Of, you,
well no we're seeing now that that, wasn't okay that
wasn't okay, with people and we're having the person who
has to clean. It up it's a messy it's a
messy mess to, clean up but somebody's got to.

Speaker 3 (01:34:53):
Do, it well, YOU know i think what surprises people
maybe a little, bit eddie and it's not politics. As
usual there used to be a time where, they would,
you know government would screw it up Like the biden,
administration did and that would be the end. Of it
we'd be talking, about amnesty, you know letting these. People
stay nobody had the guts to go in and clean up.
The mess this guy's got the guts to clean up,
the mess.

Speaker 27 (01:35:14):
Oh.

Speaker 33 (01:35:14):
For sure and people are okay. With it voters are okay.
With it that's how bad. It was, because yes, you're
right there was a time where no one even wanted
the image of, you know a single person. Being deported
no one liked that this administration because things were. So
bad things were, so bad and they were allowed to
be so bad that they not only were they okay

(01:35:36):
with the media doing they, invited reporters they created their
own videos of, these deportations sending Them To, al salvador,
a prison a terrorist confinement Center In, al salvador of those.
Notorious nature they're, flaunting it and they're flaunting it because
the voters are fine. With IT and i know that
there have been these polls that come out, that, say

(01:35:56):
well for the, first time a Majority of americans.

Speaker 18 (01:35:58):
Say that things have gone.

Speaker 5 (01:35:59):
TO far i do not. BELIEVE that i don't believe
it for.

Speaker 33 (01:36:03):
One, second one these are the same polls that Told
me kamala, was popular and we saw how that.

Speaker 5 (01:36:08):
Turned.

Speaker 33 (01:36:08):
Out, YEAH two i think that to the extent that
people say this has gone, too far that was the
extent of, these polls that things have gone.

Speaker 5 (01:36:16):
Too, far well what does?

Speaker 33 (01:36:17):
That mean what does it mean that things went, too
far that we deported, too many that it was. Too,
aggressive sorry when you, clean up when you have to
clean up a highway, rest, stop bathroom it's not going
to be very pretty and no one wants to see it,
on camera, but hey this is where. We.

Speaker 3 (01:46:04):
Especially on a day like today where you have all
the traffic and the weather to deal. With too here's
the One thing i'm struck by and all these. Dangerous
jobs we want to, talk about, police, officer firefighter working
the deck of an, aircraft carrier, helicopter pilot all these.
Dangerous jobs most of them are not the higher paying
jobs in. This country wouldn't you think there would be

(01:46:27):
a premium for people who work at very. Dangerous jobs
you would. Think so but most, of them if not all,
of them are underpaid seven forty time for traffic and.
Weather together window washers should make more. Than singers yes
they should in the, real world if the world. Was
written and if you, can sing if you're a window
washer that can sing singing, window washing now you're really

Speaker 7 (01:48:41):
Afternoon, for stronger perhaps even.

Speaker 20 (01:48:43):
Severe storms we're also keeping an eye out for the
possibility of. Some flooding there were areas that had very
heavy rain yesterday and more rain is. Expected today as
much as three inches or more. Is possible not that
anybody's going to, see that but that possibility. Is there
twenty percent chance of getting, wet today little mid eighty
sixty percent chance of more showers than, storms today and

some reaction on the Five From, greg guttfeld.

Speaker 5 (01:52:25):
Our country needs law.

Speaker 8 (01:52:26):
And order ALCATRAZ is i would say the, Ultimate right
alcatraz sing Sing and alcatraz to. The movies but it's
right now, a museum, believe it and a lot of people.
Go there it has the most violent criminals in, the
world and nobody ever Escaped to one person almost, got there,

(01:52:47):
but they as you know, the story they found his
clothing rather badly ripped up and it was a lot
of shark bites and we'll see if we can bring
it back in, large form and it sort of represents
something that's both horrible.

Speaker 5 (01:53:04):
AND beautiful i was there. By choice it was our
uh it was our grade school and high school.

Speaker 53 (01:53:09):
FIELD trip i think they wanted to scare, us straight
but It Was san francisco didn't.

Speaker 5 (01:53:14):
WORK well i mean that came. Out true but you
know what he's trying.

Speaker 53 (01:53:18):
TO do i Think what, Trump's doing he's trying to
paint a grim picture for illegals who think they're going
to wake.

Speaker 5 (01:53:24):
This out, you know is your country really as Bad?
As alcatraz maybe.

Speaker 18 (01:53:28):
Instead of seeking, asylum here you might.

Speaker 53 (01:53:30):
Think twice he's trying to undo the perception of the
incentives that were put in place that cost us. Unprecedented,
invasion so, you know sending Them to alcatraz is kind
of a Compromise Between al salvador And The, roosevelt.

Speaker 3 (01:53:46):
Hotel Somewhere Between al salvador And The, roosevelt hotel which
of Course In new york is a very nice hotel
where they were spending all kinds of taxpayer dollars keeping.

Speaker 5 (01:53:57):
Illegals there y'all ever Been? To alcatraz have you ever?

Speaker 27 (01:54:02):
DONE that.

Speaker 3 (01:54:05):
A long long, TIME ago i mean a long, TIME
ago i, went TO uh. I did we did take
a Trip To. San francisco this Is When san francisco
was a. Beautiful place there weren't a whole bunch of,
homeless people, you know crapping on, the sidewalks the. Needles
everywhere it's a, beautiful city or at least it was
back in, the day a. Beautiful city and they, do

(01:54:26):
right and they.

Speaker 5 (01:54:26):
Still.

Speaker 3 (01:54:27):
Do Tourists national parks does it Tours of alcatraz and
you you take a ferry boat, out there and, you
know they give you. A, tour NOW when i was,
last there it was probably thirty plus years AGO that,
i went and that place was kind of was falling.
APART then i don't know what they have, done to,
you know to try to, even try, you know to to,

(01:54:49):
worry about, you know whether proofing it or doing other.
THINGS there, i mean it's pretty in the pretty inhospitable
spots on this little this twenty two acre island in
the Middle Of San, francisco bay and, you know the
weather can be cold and windy, and nasty and that's
why they built, it there because you couldn't possibly escape from.
The place so that's what they built. IT there i
don't know what it, would take how many hundreds of

(01:55:13):
millions of dollars it would take to rehabilitate it and
actually turned it into a facility. Like, THAT again i
don't know that it's. EVEN feasible i just do know
that we're kind of fascinated with the idea of. Doing, it,
hey listen you all have a. Great day thank you.
For listening see you, tomorrow morning bright nearly. Five am
hope to see you at the staff bet FOUR on
am NINE. Fifty kprc
