also the United States of America will see a price
to pay.

Speaker 6 (01:56):

on Hamas in Gaza, the ceasefire between the two sides
collapsing over Harmas's rejection of several hostage deals, we are.

Speaker 8 (02:09):

ordered the president's deportation flights of TDA members out of
the country.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
To end faces impeachment.

Speaker 6 (03:03):
Texas Congressman Brandon Gill has announced plans to file articles
of impeachment this week. Meantime, borderzac Tom Homan had the
perfect response to a reporter asking him about Trump invoking
the Alien Enemies Act of seventeen ninety eight.

Speaker 10 (03:19):
You say, to those who claim you're using a teen
hundred year old law to circumvent your presents a.

Speaker 11 (03:24):
No law.

Speaker 12 (03:26):
Not as all as constitution. We still pay attention to that,
don't we?

Speaker 6 (03:29):
And Van Homan walked away in a perfect mic drop moment.
The administration is also considering a new travel band targeting
more than forty countries.

Speaker 13 (03:39):
This travel ban includes countries that are openly hostile to
the US, like Iran in Yemen.

Speaker 14 (03:44):
What we have is information that speaks to national security

Speaker 13 (03:53):
National security expert Ed Tarzanski says, despite the clear need
for these travel bands, expect resistance.

Speaker 14 (03:58):
The last time the client is that this was a

The President also says that Joe Biden's preemptive pardons of
the House January sixth committee members are quote void and vacant.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Why well, an auto pin may have been.

Speaker 15 (04:27):
Used by the former president, The power of part in
comes from the president as a person, and if he
does not know of and does not sign off on
a part in it is not possible for anyone else
to do so.

Speaker 6 (04:40):
That is KTRS buck Sexton. The Democrat civil war over
keeping the government running continues, and a new poll shows
that AOC is the one Democrat who quote best reflects
the party's core values. Kamala Harris wound up in second place. Now,
support for the Democrat Party can continues to crater, according

(05:01):
to recent polling. So how can the Republicans take advantage
heading into next year's midterms.

Speaker 16 (05:07):
You just don't really need to beat them over the
head too much, and we can spend so much time
creating the pod DI vision.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
For what we're about. So there's a great opportunity for
US Republicans.

Speaker 6 (05:16):
Strategist Chris Johnson says, as long as a GOP delivers
quickly on their campaign promises, approval for Democrats will continue
to drop. Speaking of campaign promises, the President plans to
release the files related to JFK's assassination today. That release
includes some eighty thousand pages of federal government documents five

(05:38):
ZHO five here at home. Hey, did you know that
more than two thousand Harris County employees are not only
working from home, but living in either Dallas or Austin.

Speaker 17 (05:48):
It's a slap in the face to taxpayers as they
continue wasting and abusing resources.

Speaker 18 (05:52):
Who's watching them, Who's making sure they're doing the job
they're supposed to be doing it?

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Why aren't we hiring people from Harris County?

Speaker 17 (05:58):
Former Harris County g chair Jared Woodfill says, it makes
the employees tone deaf to our problems and it's time
to go full Doge on the county.

Speaker 19 (06:07):
What we need to do is identify who those individuals are,
make sure those individuals are removed from the payroll, and
make sure those jobs are cut.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
And then people need to be loud and vocal. He says.

Speaker 17 (06:16):

Speaker 6 (06:25):
The shooting of two Pasadena Memorial High School students last month.
Damian Size is facing two charges of aggravated assaults with
a deadly weapon five h six on KTRH. Overnight trading
is down across the board this morning. The Dow did
close up three hundred and eighty three points yesterday. President
Trump wants to remake the country as a manufacturing superpower,

(06:48):
but that might be easier said than done.

Speaker 20 (06:50):
There seems to be some agreement among US economists that
the Trump goal of bringing back manufacturing jobs is a
good thing. It'll take time, but it'll benefit the nation
as a whole. It's inconsistent tariff policies that worry Lone
Star College economics professor Hank Lewis, for example.

Speaker 21 (07:07):
Question is is this backlash over tariffs and trade maybe
gonna bite us in the butt.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
That's a huge question.

Speaker 21 (07:14):
I don't have an easy answer for it.

Speaker 20 (07:16):
Lewis says. He worries because many Houston area businesses rely
on imports and exports, so President Trump is going to
have to walk a thin line when it comes to tariffs.
Michael Shilohan, News Radio seven forty k TRIGHT.

Speaker 6 (07:28):
And the Rockets erased at twenty five point deficit to
beat the Sixers in OT one forty four to one

Speaker 2 (07:34):
They're winning streak. Now at seven, I'm.

Speaker 6 (07:36):
Cliff Saunders on Houston's news, weather and traffic station KTRH.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
Now back to Jimmy Barrett and the Houston Morning News team.

Speaker 4 (07:46):
Houston's Morning News, if I believe it is our time
here on Houston's Warning News. Right, so we have a
let's start with this, a low level French politician. Okay,
he's part of what's the name of his party. It's
some weird sort of it's a it's a small left
wing party. He's a member of the European Parliament, co
president of the small left wing party in France. His

(08:09):
name is ratheel Gluxman. That doesn't summary French. He evidently
is making a lot of noise and getting a lot
of reaction. Now, the President Trump has taken over here
in the United States, and we are, you know, looking
at European tariffs like maybe two hundred percent in a

(08:30):
few weeks on European wine and spirits, for example. I
don't I don't think that French like the idea of
a undred percent tariff on Champagne.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
And uh.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
He's calling for us to give the Statue of Liberty back.
He says it was our gift to you, but apparently
you despise her, so she will be happy here with us,
and he's getting a little reaction from it. The White
House Press Secretary Caroline Lovett asked about the cons of

(09:00):
the French politician.

Speaker 22 (09:02):
There is now a member of the European Parliament from
France who does not think the US represents the values
of the Statue of Liberty anymore.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
They want the Statue of Liberty back.

Speaker 22 (09:12):
So is President Trump going to send the Statue of
Liberty back to France?

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Absolutely not.

Speaker 23 (09:18):
And my advice to that unnamed low level French politician
would be to remind them that it's only because of
the United States of America that the French are not speaking.

Speaker 6 (09:30):
German right now.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
So they should be very grateful to our greade country.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
See that we've been using that card for like sixty
seventy years now. I don't do you think that card
ever wears out. I don't think so. We saved your
asses during World War Two. That card, that card can
probably be played for eternity as long as as long
as history remembers World War Two, we can play that card.

(09:55):
But besides, it's a gift. You know, one hundred and
four years later. You can't regift a gift after one
hundred and forty years. It's ours. I'm sorry you paid
for the statue. We paid for the pedestal it's on.
We put it together here so we you know, we
there's an installation fee involved. We we installed it. We

(10:17):
renovated it extensively back in nineteen seventy six for the
bi centennial. So listen, it's ours. Now you have your
own little inny bitty version of the Statue of Liberty
in France. And it's not our fault that you made
the second one so small. All right, time for traffic
and weather together as we check out the drive again
with the sky mine.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
We wee, god, it's just Frinch sheet two ninety.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
It's clear, so you can give us back our statue
of lip Te.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Dude.

Speaker 5 (10:48):
You know what's scariest why you were playing that clip
of her? I was thinking the exact same thing. We're
still whipping out the World War two cards, so I
don't know, maybe you and me should go on this
newly way came. All right, here's the deal. This is
a big this is full hooves Fankory on the North Freeway,
and I'm so sorry for it.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
This is the deal. This is two forty two I
forty five.

Speaker 5 (11:09):
It's closed southbound completely double check that direction now, yeah,
southbound closed.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
It's showing other on your screens.

Speaker 5 (11:18):
I'm seeing people getting by northbound, but only by a
squeeze southbound.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
It's horrible.

Speaker 5 (11:23):
Forty five north at two forty two College Park, they
are rehanging power lines. We have no toubt, we have
no timeline for it. I've talked to the authorities. Nobody knows,
but they're doing this. It's from a.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Eighteen wheel wreck that we had yesterday.

Speaker 5 (11:36):
We've been following this closely on KTRH. But eighteen wheeler
yesterday hit some power lines. That's what they're trying to
fix here. Bless our hearts. Well, that's why we update
you every ten minutes, and we'll do it in ten minutes.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
I'm Scott. That makes sense, right, Terry.

Speaker 5 (11:50):
I'm SKYMIKEE on the USA Rbresorts dot Com traffic center.

Speaker 4 (11:55):
Sure as early for those kinds of troubles from our
KTRH top tax defenders twenty four hour with this, Terry
Smith is here. You may have some weather issues this afternoon.
I'm looking at wind gusts of forty miles per hour.
What's with all the high winds this spring.

Speaker 24 (12:09):
Well, there's a lot of reasons for high winds in
the spring. Part of the main reason you see gusty
winds is that it's a big transition time where we
go from much cooler weather to drastic warm ups or
drastic cool downs. So there's big swings and temperatures that'll
help to cut oftentimes kick up the winds.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
What we have, though.

Speaker 24 (12:34):
Is an area of low pressure over the Rockies that
is heading our direction intensifying and as it does, the
pressure gradient increases and that in turn increases the winds.
So we're going to be looking at a breezy day
much of the day, fifteen to twenty five mile an
hour winds, but occasionally those gusts up as high as
forty miles an hour, so you'll be feeling the winds.

(12:57):
And if those guys are working on power lines that
might help, that might deter them from getting much work
done today. Fingers crossed they can get some work done
before the winds pick up. It's going to be another
warm day, just like yesterday, mid seventies to low eighties.
Tomorrow it's a week cold front, but it could bring
us some ring twenty percent chance of a shower. Still

(13:18):
warm tomorrow mid seventies to low eighties, but Thursday's cooler
near seventy and then we start to warm back up
Friday and Saturday.

Speaker 4 (13:26):
Temperature right now fifty nine at your official severe weather station.
News Radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 25 (13:33):
It's Houston's Morning News, brought to you Byden New South
Windows Solutions. Now back to Jimmy Barrits and the Houston
Morning News team all the info you need to take
on the day.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
Sort Of a couple of big stories actually on a
national level today, both involving President Trump. They are releasing
the jfk assassination files, some eighty thousand pages that supposedly
we've never seen before. Now, I for one, don't really
excit expect anything to be in there that's going to
be an aha moment. Oh say, the CIA did it.

(14:05):
I don't expect to see that. I mean, I may
be wrong, but I don't expect to see anything like that.
But we will find out as the day progresses. Also today,
very importantly, President Trump will be speaking to President Vladimir
Putin about a potential ceasefire and peace between Ukraine and Russia.

(14:27):
Bill O'Reilly, who works for News Nation these days, still
has access to President Trump. They go way back together.
He sat down with him yesterday and talked to him
about Putin and we'll share some of that with you
coming up next first though, traffic and weather together as
we check out the drive once again.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Yes, Gay, nobody wants this forty five stuff. All right.

Speaker 5 (14:45):
Let me check you by the way, if this is
why you need to play the home game with me.
Transtar site, it's camera two five to nine and we
have a complete shutdown of I forty five and that
is at FBM two forty two, right between Shannondo and
Spring and it's both ways. They're putting people on the feeder.
It's a miss in either direction. So coming down from

(15:07):
Conro and of course we don't have a whole lot
for alternates. This is going to make thirteen fourteen crazy.
If two forty nine is in option, even if it's
a bit out of your way, do it. If East
Texts is a little bit out of your way, do
it also. And they did not give us a timeline
for how long they're hanging power lines after an accident
yesterday knocked them down, so we'll we'll obviously we've got

(15:27):
traffic every ten minutes. We'll have an update at five
thirty in the USA. R Vresorts dot com Traffic Center.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
From r KTRH top tax Defenders twenty four hour Weather
Center part They thought a gusty afternoon Wednesday twenty to
thirty with occasional forty mile for our gusts right about
eighty Tomorrow morning clouds, twenty percent shower chance, afternoon sun
breezy eighty three, and then for Thursday, sunny and cooler
with the temperature around seventy current temperature fifty nine at

(15:54):
your officials severe weather station. News Radio seven forty KTRH.
We're checking out some of our tops on this Tuesday.

Speaker 6 (16:01):
Here's Cliff, Thank you, Jimmy, sponsored by Morrow Mechanical. The
Federal Reserve begins its March meetings today. A Houston area
woman is arrested and accused of performing illegal abortions. And
we had no powerball winners last night, so the jackpot
tomorrow night is four hundred and sixteen million dollars. Get
the latest news anytime at KTRH dot com. Our next

(16:21):
update is that's five point thirty.

Speaker 26 (16:24):
A twenty five percent increase in listening to our news
and talk is being added to your day.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
Check in even more often.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
US Radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 4 (16:36):
By twenty three our time here in Houston's borning news.
All right, So Bill O'Reilly gets access that you and
I don't get to President Trump. Clearly they go way
back together. As I said, he's with NewsNation these days.
He was invited evidently to the Oval Office yesterday and
talked about the jfk assassination files.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Well more on that later.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
Bob also talked to Meir him about Vladimir Putin and
the big phone call, which at the time was coming
up tomorrow. It is coming up later today.

Speaker 27 (17:04):
Putin and Trump have a relationship. The press puts a
negative spin on that. I put a neutral spin on it.
Pudin will accommodate Trump to some extent, but Trump knows
that this guy is very, very tough and doesn't care
how many people are dead, doesn't care what the destruction is.

(17:29):
So it's a tough negotiation. In the middle of the
conversation about him, Putin and I have told you that
my next book is called Confronting Evil and Lads on
the cover of that book. Okay, he's an evil solb
and when you're in negotiating with something like that is
not easy.

Speaker 28 (17:50):
So he said a comedy, right, Another word for that
is playcate or manipulate.

Speaker 27 (17:56):
I don't believe that for a second. I think Trump
is doing exactly what he has to do to get
Putin to the table. And I think the people that are.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
What is Trump's red line with Vladimir Putin?

Speaker 28 (18:06):
When does Trump become as tough on Vladimir Putin publicly
as he was Vladimir's Alynsky?

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Never?

Speaker 27 (18:13):
Why would you do that because you need Putin's cooperation.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
He needs a Lisky's cooperator.

Speaker 27 (18:18):
You know, Letsky has no power at all, none. You
don't need his cooperation as Lisky already folding gave Trump
everything he wanted.

Speaker 28 (18:26):
So you don't think there's gonna be a time that
Trump is going to need to be as tough with
Vladimir Putin as he's.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
Been with anybody.

Speaker 27 (18:33):
I don't think that's possible. Unless Putin betrays Trump, then
you're going to see.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
So what's what's Trump's red lines here?

Speaker 29 (18:41):
Well?

Speaker 27 (18:42):
If Putin, for example, would say we're gonna have a
cease fire and then two weeks later blow up a church,
a Trump's gonna hurt him.

Speaker 28 (18:51):
Okay, So you think there are red lines with Vladimir
Putin contrition.

Speaker 27 (18:55):
Trump's a tough negotiator and he doesn't want to be embarrassed.

Speaker 28 (18:59):
Hair though what happens in Ukraine other than just the killing, stoppings.

Speaker 27 (19:02):
Chairs, because it's good for the world to calm it down,
and it's also good for the world that rush is
not so dependent on China.

Speaker 4 (19:12):
And the other key that he mentioned there is Trump
does not like to be embarrassed. So if he makes
some sort of a deal with Putin and then Puttin
backs down on the deal, guess who's not going to
be very happy. And guess who's probably going to get really,
really tough because you embarrassed him. Yep, you've got to
be prepared for that. Five twenty six. It is time

(19:34):
to take a look at your money. Jeff Bellinger, good
morning to you, and.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
Good morning to you, Jimmy.

Speaker 2 (21:01):
North of here?

Speaker 5 (21:02):
Two forty two Jimmy Barrett and both ways. It's a shutdown.
They're hanging power lines. We don't we don't have a timetable.
I've talked to the authorities. It's just gonna get done
when it gets done. I would expect it to be
done before the morning. But here's the deal. We're totally
shut down on the main lanes forty five at two
forty two both ways.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
I got Jeff from Conro.

Speaker 32 (21:21):
Good morning, Sean, Mike.

Your Money. The Federal Reserve begins its March meeting today
with all eyes on Chairman Jerome Palell.

Speaker 33 (22:17):
And we asked economist Peter Maurici for a preview this meeting.

Speaker 11 (22:22):
They will punt. I think they're just looking for an
opportunity to punt.

Speaker 33 (22:26):
The Fed cut interest rates three times to and last year.
So does Maurice think we'll see another cut this time?

Speaker 11 (22:34):
I no, I don't. I think that's just a stay put.

Speaker 14 (22:37):
I think the other side in action is the best
thing they can do.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
At the moment.

Speaker 33 (22:40):
In the meantime, speculation has already begun about a possible
rate cut in May.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
Jeff Biggs, News Radio seven k t E.

Speaker 6 (22:49):
And after making gains yesterday, overnight futures are down across
the board. Dow futures off by one hundred and twenty
five points.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
After the recent.

Speaker 6 (22:57):
Market correction, many investors took their money from the stock
market and put it into bonds. Now that the correction
is done, they're slowly coming back to stocks.

Speaker 34 (23:07):
Now we're seeing a little bit of buying. People are
nibbling at stocks again now that we've had an initial
ten percent correction.

Speaker 6 (23:16):
KGRH money man Patchin says this is consistent with what
we usually see during corrections, and the overall economic data
looks fine with renewed airstraction Gaza Tonight oil prices are
up this morning to sixty eight dollars and sixty one
cents a barrel. We'll have more on the Middle East
situation coming up at six o'clock. Some people are floating

(23:37):
the idea of a worldwide power grid. Theoretically it could
be done if you used underwater cables, but it won't
be easy. Rice as you ditch you up Meali says,
for one thing, it could be expensive.

Speaker 5 (23:50):
There's going to be consistent funding doing that, and I
think that's sometimes challenging.

Speaker 6 (23:54):
And of course there's the obvious question, do you really
think the entire world would cooperate with each other? Five
point thirty three Now on KTRH, the Trump administration continues
to speak out against the Obama activist judge try to
stop the deportation of hundreds of trendy Iragua members to
El Salvador. Attorney General Pam Bondi calls it judicial activism.

Speaker 26 (24:17):
What he's done is an intrusion on the president's authority.
You know this one federal judge again thinks he can
control foreign policy for the entire country, and he cannot.

Speaker 6 (24:30):
The White House did say they paid El Salvador six
million dollars to take in those illegals.

Speaker 2 (24:35):
Pennies on the dollar, they say.

Speaker 6 (24:37):
The Democrat in fighting over keeping the government running continues,
and it looks like a top Democrat leader is now
running scared.

Speaker 35 (24:46):
Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer postponing a series of book
tour events over what a spokesperson calls security concerns. A
number of protests were planned over frustrations with a top
Senate Democrat over his decision to help break the filibuster
on our Republican and President trump back spending plan to
avoid a government shutdown.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
That is Fox's Ryan Schmell's reporting.

Speaker 6 (25:08):
And with Trump back in office, the GoJ drops its
claims against Texas in a redistricting lawsuit. But there are
other cases still pending, like the one in Galveston County
and Judge Mark Henry.

Speaker 36 (25:20):
The Fifth Circuit sent the case back down to the
trial court with Justice Jeff Brown, so it currently resides
with him. We're waiting on a final order from Judge Brown,
so then we'll see what that order is when that
comes out, and where we go from there.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
That could happen in May.

Speaker 6 (25:36):
Meantime, there were tense moments at a fot Bend isd
workshop last night, with nine parents speaking out against the
proposed Blue Bonnet curriculum, which incorporates Bible references in reading classes.

Speaker 37 (25:49):
Only parents should have the rights to teach their children
about religion, especially if their children are in public school
as this is, and not a private religious school.

Speaker 6 (25:56):
One parent was actually escorted out of the meeting for
making and of seeing gesture towards the board. No parents
spoke in favor or support of the proposal. By the way,
the district has not yet even decided to adopt the curriculum.
Five point thirty five. On KTRH, the astronauts who are
stranded on the International Space Station for months are now

(26:17):
on their way home finally.

Speaker 38 (26:20):
Butch Willmore and Sonny Williams have been working on the
space station since June, when they're Boeing Starliner spacecraft developed
thruster problems.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
Splash down off.

Speaker 38 (26:28):
The Gulf coast of Florida is expected before six pm
Eastern Time. NASA and SpaceX pushed it a day earlier
because of a favorable weather forecast.

Speaker 6 (26:39):
Spots as Jonathan Serry in Florida. Now, we've talked about
AI being used to clone voices for scams. Now it
looks like the bad guys are getting even better at
pulling those off.

Speaker 32 (26:50):
Unfortunately, all good things are going to be used for evil.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
That's hard to combat.

Speaker 32 (26:55):
But I think what we need is we need organizations
to at least have some sort of verify.

Speaker 6 (27:00):
Ted closer with PCA tech solution says now all the
bad guys need are just seconds of audio to pull
this stuff off. Five point thirty six. Tonight, a rodeo Houston,
first post Malone takes center stage at NRG and tomorrow
night it's Old Dominion headlining rodeo for the second time.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Baby saying I don't want to be on man bag.

Speaker 6 (27:25):
This weekend you'll see Brooks and Done performing for their
twenty first rodeo show since nineteen ninety two. Sunday, another
fan favorite, Luke Bryant, closes out the season, and the
Texan signed cornerback Darryl Stingley Junior to a contract extension.
A reported Jimmy get this, three years, ninety million dollars,
eighty nine million of it guaranteed.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
Must be nice.

Speaker 6 (27:48):
Stingley is now the NFL's highest paid defensive back. I'm
Cliff Saunders on Houston's News Weather in Traffic station KTRH.

Speaker 25 (27:56):
More with Jimmy Barrett and the Houston Morning Used. This
is Houston's Morning News.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
Does your mail men come twice a day?

Speaker 1 (28:07):
I can't come.

Speaker 4 (28:08):
I've never seen my mail man twice a day. Five
thirty eight is our time here in Houston's Morning News.
All right, the United States Postal Service. Some news about
the Postal Service. Yes, I know, I have a tendency
to speak poorly of them. Not all of them, mind you.
There are still some hard working individuals working for the
United States Postal Service, and it's certainly not their fault

(28:30):
that the place loses so much money. But changes will
have to happen, and evidently they have decided to cooperate
with Elon Musk and doge as far as looking at
ways they can save money. In the meantime, there's going
to be some quote unquote significant changes to first class
mail service starting April first. They picked April Fool's Day, Eh,

(28:57):
how appropriate. These changes are part of the Delivering for
America plan. Yes, a ten year strategy that addresses current
mail trends and works to solve financial challenges. Okay, I
love that. So what is changing starting in April the first,
and by the way, things have to change because over

(29:19):
the last ten years they've consistently lost money one hundred
billion loss since two thousand and seven, one hundred billion dollars.
Delivering for America will be split into two phases, will
affect first class mail, periodicals, marketing mail, and packaging services.
The first phase begins April first, the second on July first.
Fourteen percent of first class mail will be upgraded to

(29:42):
a faster standard delivered more quickly, while eleven percent will
be downgraded to a lower standard. Please note that you'll
be paying the same regardless. All first class mail will
still be delivered within the one to five business day range,
and seventy five percent of mail will remain unaffected. They
will also be adding a new five digit regional add

(30:03):
on to replace the current three digit add on, you know,
in addition to your zip code, that little digit at
the end. Postal workers will be able to leave earlier
and travel greater distances. The changes will enhance service reliability
nationwide while maintaining the existing five day service standard day

(30:24):
range for first class mail, whereas the day ranges for
end to end marketing mail, periodicals and packages will be shortened.
Oh you know what that means. That means the junk mail,
the advertising stuff that is going to have postal service priority.
That's the stuff they will deliver more quickly. The other

(30:47):
things like your bills and for people who still write
checks or or a letter. If you've heard of letters right,
Sometimes people send those, you know, looking for an old
fashioned experience. Those will be the one ones that will
take longer to get to where they're supposed to go.
In other words, they're going to put the emphasis where
the money is in making sure that the marketing stuff,

(31:07):
the junk mail, if you will, gets there more quickly.
You know, I think we should do it. Question of
the day on this one. I don't know if I've
ever asked you to weigh in and if you were
the you know, if you were in charge of the
postal service, what would be one thing you would do
to save money? What would be a change that you
would make to be more efficient or to save money.

(31:28):
You can go to the iHeartRadio app kt RH, put
us on your preset KTRH in freeset so you can
get there quickly. You get thirty seconds once you hit
the microphone. First name where you're calling from. And the
thing you would do to save money at the post
office right now? Time for traffic and weather together.

Speaker 2 (31:44):
Those cost I'm just thinking for some for some of them,
they need a lot of material too. I'm just I've
noticed that.

Speaker 4 (31:53):
So you would institute perhaps as a fitness routine. Yeah,
let's get you with all that walking. They would be
a little thinner, wouldn't you.

Speaker 5 (32:01):
My word, I have made the postal service people mad before.
Let's do forty five North at two forty two, and
that's a complete shutdown. I'm trying to get air support
here from Tammy and Channel thirteen and they're doing what
they can.

Speaker 2 (32:15):
This is forty five North at two forty two.

Speaker 5 (32:17):
It's closed both ways, so they're rehanging power lines. And
I've talked to some officials and they don't have a
timeline for when this will be done just yet. Obviously
we're working on it as quickly as we can do
it safely, but we just don't have a realistic timeline
for this. Forty five north at two forty two, that
is a complete shut down both ways. So even if

(32:40):
fifty nine is a little out of your way, do that.
Even if even if two forty nine is a little
out of your way, do that instead.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
Do that instead.

Speaker 5 (32:49):
And again, no timeline two forty two. You could take
it down to thirteen fourteen. I've got a report of
a wreck at thirteen fourteen in Gladsdale. Since we're up
here speaking of people, I make mad the toll way
north Sam westbound at Alding Westville. We're messing the left lane.
It's roadwork eastbound. You've got the work at Imperial Valley.
I'm Skymichael the Generator Supercenter dot Com Traffic Center.

Speaker 4 (33:10):
From r KTRH Generator super Center twenty four hour with center.
Terry's here. Breezy day today, Hanging power lines would not
be what I'd want.

Speaker 19 (33:17):
To be doing today.

Speaker 24 (33:18):
No, And I know that they have some sort of
criteria where it's safe for them to be out there
working and otherwise they have to kind of wait for
the winds to die down. I don't know what the
specifics are on that, so I hope they're able to
get their work done. Hey, Skymike, question for you. How
do the toll people sound?

Speaker 2 (33:37):
I forgot? Oh, They're like, well, sir, I can't give
you that information at this time. Okay, guess I talk
like that. Yeah, a lot of wind this morning, Yes,
a lot of wind. Wind advisory in effect today. Guys.
It's going to be breezy much of the day, but
we're going.

Speaker 24 (33:50):
To see these gusts as high as forty miles an
hour a time. So not a fun day to be
outside trying to repair those power lines. Nice warm day,
though comfortably warm, seventies to low eighties. Same thing tomorrow,
mid seventies to low eighties. We do have a twenty
percent chance of a shower the rest of the week's sunshine.
Now gets a little cool Thursday, close to seventy, but

(34:11):
then we start to warm back up Friday and Saturday.

Speaker 4 (34:13):
Temperature right now fifty nine at your official severe weather station.
He's ready to go seven forty ktrh What you need
to know for the day ahead. This is Houston's Morning News,
brought to you by New South Windows Solutions. So the
FED is going to meet today, and it's a safe
bet that interest rates will probably remain unchanged. They're certainly

(34:34):
not going to be lowered. I think the Fed has
made it very clear that there are not going to
be lowering interest rates. But you got to feel like
there's a significant part of the economy that is just
ready to take off if we can just get interest
rates a little bit lower. We'll talk to research fellow
with the Heritage Foundation, Parker Shepherd about that coming up next. First, though,
traffic and weather together. As we check out the drive

(34:56):
again with skyline.

Speaker 5 (34:57):
Forty five north at two forty two's totally shut on
both ways.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
There hanging power lines. I don't know how long this
will take.

Speaker 5 (35:03):
Let's get on sixty nine, get on to forty two instead,

Youth Radio seven KTRH.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
The're going so, you know, I'm always.

Speaker 4 (36:16):
Surprised they didn't do an updated version of that. How
long will interest rates stay high? I mean they really
should have done an update on that anyway. Parker Shepherd
is with US research fellow the Heritage Foundation. I guess
when you think about though, Parker, historically speaking, we do
not have high interest rates. We really don't remember what
high interest rates are because most of us aren't old

(36:37):
enough to remember when we had a ten or eleven
or a twelve or thirteen percent interest rate.

Speaker 18 (36:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 39 (36:44):
Absolutely, I am thankfully not old enough to remember seeing
rates that high. But it's certainly it's very high relative
to what we've seen over the past your twenty or
thirty years, because we've seen runaway inflation that the FED
is trying its hardest to clamp down on. It's been

(37:06):
trying to deal with the after effects that have come
from a lot of the pandemic spending spree, from the
American rescue plans, stimulus spending. And what we're going to
look at this next meeting is to see how they're
going to try to finish the job as they can
bring inflation all the way back down from these highs
that have been the highest that we've seen in recent memory.

Speaker 4 (37:30):
Well, certainly it's the interest you know, it's a lot
lower than it has been the inflation rate has slowed
down some. There are notable exceptions, such as egg prices,
which we all know is its own separate thing. You know,
the Middle East could effect oil prices it is right now,
that's one of those things that's a little bit uncontrollable.
But I have to wonder what do you think it
will take. We know that the big part of DOGE

(37:54):
is to cut government spending. That's certainly a big component,
don't you think in trying to get to the point
where the Fed feels comfortable lowering interest rates is we've
got to get our government spending under control.

Speaker 39 (38:05):
Absolutely, those are doing a great job of finding things
that are unnecessary that they can eliminate because government spending
is way too high, is not sustainable. Several outlays are
running about six percent ahead of where they were in
the previous fiscal year, and the economy is not growing
at six percent. And so what happens when the government

(38:28):
spends more than it has the ability to raise in
tax revenue is that it's either going to add to
the debt, which there's a limit to how much they
can run to that where they're eventually going to find
a way to resort to the monetary printing press and
try to pay for everything through raising funds in the
inflation tax by eroding the real value of people savings.

Speaker 4 (38:50):
One of the areas that certainly has suffered from inflation
and certainly has seen a great decrease, I mean historical
decrease is homes. We just aren't selling a lot of
homes right now with mortgage interest rates being what they are.
If we could get the mortgage interest rate down around
five percent, how much of a difference do you think
we would see in that particular sector.

Speaker 39 (39:12):
I think home prices are the major driver in inflation
right now. You can look the Atlanta SAD has a
sticky price CPI where they divide the items in the
CPI between goods that change rapidly in price and goods
that change slowly in price, and it's even higher than
core CPI, which is even higher than the headline CPI.

(39:33):
Their flexible priced version of that is hovering around zero.
So when the feed is keeping rates high, the prices
that can respond quickly are responding. And what's left is
that's really taking a long time to get wrung out.
Is this pricing in the housing market where things are

(39:53):
freezing up because people that were able to lock in
interest rates at the at the bottom are lows to
go back on the market. It just shows the importance
of keeping a stable and steady interest.

Speaker 2 (40:05):
Rate policy, no doubt.

Speaker 4 (40:07):
Yeah, I'm not giving up by two point eight six percent,
that's for sure, all right, Parker, Thanks for joining us.
Appreciate it, Parker Shepherd, Research fellow at the Heritage Foundation.

Cuban six twenty two is our time here In houston's morning, news,
Right Ryan, morris WILL Us Investigative research At Capital Research,
center forty one countries would have at least a partial travel.
Band from what we're hearing about this new Potential trump
order on, traveling some would be a complete revocation of
your ability to. Travel there In cuba is on that, List,

(56:06):
Ryan i'm a little surprised to See cuba. There we've
kind of had more of a normal relationship with, them
at least from a traveling, standpoint.

Speaker 2 (56:15):
For the last few.

Speaker 4 (56:15):
Years we've always had a policy of Allowing cubans who
can make it to our shores to stay here in this.

Speaker 2 (56:21):
Country is that going to?

Speaker 44 (56:21):
Change if the so called travel ban is in fact
a travel ban has described AND i don't think it
actually will look like, this then, yes the policy Towards
cubans would. Change but the reason THAT i think that
whatever the final product is is going to be very
different is because during the First trump administration when he

(56:43):
so called ban travel from Seven moslim majority. COUNTRIES i
THINK i was the only ANALYST i saw on Even
fox pointing out that if you looked at the exact,
words there are all these exceptions to, it like all
the reasonable exceptions that you would, say like you, know
medical need or profoundly in the interests of The United

(57:04):
states and can show it all these LOOT i guess
you'd called the, bluepoles but exceptions that even from those
countries you could still come into The United, states therefore
making it not a. Ban i'm hoping that whenever some
whatever version of this comes, out particularly in regards To.
AFGHANISTAN i, MEAN i know Many afghance you served WITH

(57:26):
us forces that are still waiting to get out of
there as A taliban you, know could potentially kill. Them
And i'm hoping that whatever is the final version has
an exception so that we can start in that process along,
again because right now it's.

Speaker 2 (57:41):
Frozen.

Speaker 4 (57:42):
Yeah if that's the, case then it sounds to me
like what they really want to do is they really
want to be able to fully vet whoever's coming from these.
Countries in other, words we need to know who you,
are why you're coming, here what your background. Is in other,
words we don't want to just accept you because you're
from that. Country we want to make sure we know
who you, are.

Speaker 44 (58:02):
Right and it's also a pressure tactic because a lot
of these countries don't do things like submit forged documents
that they come across into THE, interpal like this international
database that countries, share so that they can identify such
criminals in their own countries later. On so it is
a pressure. Tactic there's three categories according to the. Reports
the one is supposedly no one can come in from

(58:25):
these countries in the first.

Speaker 2 (58:26):
CATEGORY i don't think that will actually.

Speaker 44 (58:28):
Happen the second one is you have to actually have
an in person interview and undertake additional procedures in order to.
Come and then the third is basically you're on warning
that you could be in either of those other two
categories if the countries don't improve their. Procedures one CONCERN
i do have is that in terms of vetting is

(58:49):
that there isn't an agreement yet as of what that looks.
Like so then you have to have the agreement and
then you have to implement, it and so that could
take a law Time it's not as simple as just,
saying let's let's put it in a better vetting.

Speaker 4 (59:04):

About four million of the wines and spirits that we
sell that go out the, door half of it is
From europe and so you, know really this tariff would,
be you, know have an impact on those sales of
those products on the. Shelf what's really interesting is over the,
weekend being in our, stores customers were stalking up and you,
know it is an uncertain. Time we don't know what's

(01:08:22):
going to, happen but you know it doesn't hurt to
go out and grab your favorite bottle of wine and
spirit right, now especially tequila or. Champagne you, KNOW i
think this is a good, example a bottle of champagne.
Here you, know this at least costs starting around sixty
dollars a. Bottle you can go To california where they
make share sparkling wine in the same style at a

(01:08:43):
champagne for half the. Price so you do have a
lot of those opportunities where you can switch. Consumers DURING,
covid as we, saw they had to, pivot they had
to try something, new the same thing. Here sonset From
france that only can be made in that certain region
can go and find a great bottle Of sonyo blanc From.
California so consumers will have to do that because the

cost of these imported products would be so expensive on the.

Harris county even they're living, in as.

Speaker 2 (01:33:53):
You, Said dallas And.

Speaker 18 (01:33:54):
Austin and most of these folks came in Around march
of twenty twenty when the HEAD dogo had to stay
at home work orders that were put in.

Speaker 2 (01:34:02):
Place but what's so amazing about this is thanks to the.

Speaker 18 (01:34:05):
Great work Of Commissioner, ramsey we were able to uncover,
this or he was able to uncover. This they stonewalled
and did everything they could to keep him from getting
the information he, requested and he finally got, it but
they can't give him answers to why these folks are
still working In dallas And austin and they can't tell
him what they're even. Doing so we've got a whole,

(01:34:25):
Lot we've got a whole lot of empty buildings In
Harris county and workers that were paying for living In
dallas In, austin and it's just another example of government
abuse and waste the county.

Speaker 4 (01:34:37):
Level, Okay, WELL i think you had just identified the biggest.
Problem we don't even know what they're doing or why
they were hired to begin. With and if you're talking
about two thousand, people do we have any idea how
this Impacts Harris county's bottom? Line how much money we
spending on these? People, WELL i, mean you just do the.

Speaker 18 (01:34:53):
MATH i, mean these individuals are probably making on average
one hundred thousand dollars a year for doing who knows,
what absolutely no accountability and the rules and work that they're.
Doing they don't live in the jurisdiction where it's. Occurring
SO i, mean it's just another example of why we
need A Harris county version Of. DOZE i, mean we've
seen at the national, level we've seen at the state,

(01:35:15):
level we've even seen at the city level leadership requiring
employees to go back to work That you're no longer
going to be allowed to work from, home where there's no,
accountability where there's, waste where there's, abuse where there's. Fraud
and thank The lord for A Commissioner ramsey who's standing
up and working to shine the light a day on this.

Speaker 4 (01:35:31):
ABUSE i will Give John whitmyer credit the mayor of
The city Of. Houston he won't call it, doze but
he is trying to find cost cutting measures because he
knows he has at least a three hundred million dollar
deficit to try to. FILL i hope he takes it
past that Because i'm pretty sure there's more than three
hundred million dollars in waste in The city Of. Houston
last question for, You, jared is there a residency requirement
to work In Harris? County in other, words if you

(01:35:52):
work For Harris county, government do you have to live
In Harris?

Speaker 2 (01:35:55):
County absolutely, Not and that's one of the things that
we need to put.

Speaker 18 (01:35:59):
IN i, mean the folks that work In Harris county
need to be responsible or live under the, laws the
rules of the regulations that they work to, implement and
so that needs to be changed at the county. Level
but there's a whole lot of things that The democrat
controlled a county administration needs to change that unfortunately is
not happening because, Look jimmy's bottom, line it's our, money

(01:36:20):
it's our taxpayer dollars that are paid for this, waste this,
abuse and this.

Speaker 4 (01:36:24):
Fraud, yep well and good luck and fixing. IT i
think the best way to fix this problem is through,
elections but we'll have to wait and see how that.
Goes Jared, Woodfille thank, you, sir as far As Harris

keep prices. Higher but The American Egg board says this
is a story of supply and. Demand farmers have been
battling bird flu and Losing.

Speaker 53 (01:45:09):
Since january of twenty twenty, five the start of this,
year we've lost more than thirty million birds and. Counting
last week was actually the first week we went a
full week without a new farm having an outbreak of
The amian. Flu so those this impact has been devastating
on our. Industry it's been devastating on our. Farmers and
LIKE i, said our farmers are in the sight of their, lives.

Speaker 11 (01:45:32):
You.

Speaker 52 (01:45:32):
Know but the other people that are losing are the
businesses and the. Consumers we're here At roccos where every

Speaker 54 (01:45:49):
Like so we initially thought when we looked at one
of our invoices that the pricing was incorrect or we
were getting. Scammed we actually called another vendor who confirmed
the egg. PRICES i mean last week alone they were
upwards of two hundred and thirty. Dollars so it's just it's,
crazy it's an exuberant amount of.

Speaker 1 (01:46:06):
Money and so we ran through the prices at the
top of the.

Speaker 52 (01:46:09):

so tell me how much were those, eggs and then
maybe compare back To december and pre this strain of
the bird, flu what were you paying for your delivery of?

Speaker 54 (01:46:19):
Eggs so as of last week they were two hundred
and thirty dollars for a thirty. Dozen back In, december
it was about one hundred and twenty two dollars for
a case of thirty. Dozen and just a few years,
back we were looking at anywhere between thirty eight to sixty.

Speaker 4 (01:46:34):
Dollars thirty eight to sixty dollars two years ago for
thirty dozen. Eggs if you're a, restaurant now two hundred
and thirty dollars and you wonder why there's an egg
surcharge or or or or why menu prices for breakfast
have gone up so much THAT i guess the good

(01:46:56):
news IS i mean it has come down. Some if
you go to the grocery store and you get a dozen,
eggs there was a point in time where it was
very close to nine dollars for a dozen. Eggs that's
down around five dollars, now but it is still at

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
