Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, so we have Glad to viding with this
political consultant. We're going to talk a little bit about
how the Harris County judge race is shaping up. Glad,
welcome back to our show on this Friday of the thirteenth.
You don't have tristadcaphobia, do you?
Speaker 2 (00:13):
I do not. I look forward to it every single year.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
God, I'm glad to hear that. So we had a niece,
Parker on the show yesterday. I couldn't figure out if
she was nervous because she thought that maybe I might
be getting ready to pull the rug out from underneath
her feet, or if she maybe it was just a
little rusty because she hasn't done the political thing in
a while. But she sounded kind of nervous in doing
(00:37):
the interview. I'm sure she'll get back into form as
the race gets closer. How do you see her as
a candidate. She certainly has some allies in John Whitmeyer,
for example. She also worked with and got along I
guess with Ed Emmett, who's the Harris County judge we
all fondly remember. So does that give her an edge
(00:58):
in your mind?
Speaker 2 (01:00):
I heard and I also heard that the nervousness and
the hesitation. I think it really stems from being out
of the game for so long. But I also think
it stems from being so separate from the core Democrats
support right now, which is what she really depends on
to get her across that finish line. I think she's
(01:21):
really out of step with the modern Democrat, which is
more aligned with extreme social action and pushing progressive, extreme
progressive causes. Now, Parker has the benefit of, as you said,
some really deep ties with apprenticeships with establishment Democrats and
(01:44):
establishment figures across the state. She's been good friends with
that Emmett for a long time in John Whitmyer, and
it's certainly likely that she's going to make use of
those connections and use of those tactics that both of
those candidates use when they were trying to draw people
together and not depend entirely on their political side of
(02:05):
the aisle. They were both effective leaders at reaching across
the out and getting voters on both sides to for them.
But that may not work in this particular climate because
that model is really out of fashion right now with
the left. The left is very hell bent on all
or nothing and pushing back against anything that smacks of
(02:29):
moderation or bipartisanship.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Yeah, Piney Point mayor Lisa Dutt and businessman more and
Howell also actively seeking the seat. So we got three
people who are trying to claim that seat at this point.
And of course nobody's mentioning Lena Hildago or the fact
that she's in Paris, which does it look very good
for her. I'm wondering if you think she's going to
attempt to run again or do you think a deal
(02:52):
has already been made for her to step out.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
I think Lena Hidalgo has done amazing work at seeding
the ground needed to have her exit as soon as possible.
She has had really just clashes with her own colleagues
on Commissioner's Court. She's had classes with other leaders in
Harris County. I've talked with city leaders across the county
(03:16):
who have terrible relationships with her that they couldnot get
anything done. I think she has positioned herself perfectly to
be able to be pushed out. Certainly, you know her
consistent need to need seek mental help and to to
get mental assistance, and the fact that every single member
(03:39):
of every single resident of Harris County recognizes that not
only she overwhelmed, that she has outclassed in this role,
has really positioned the race so that, you know, she
can graciously step aside to look after her mental health
and her own benefit. And it's it's probably for the
best not only of her, but also for the for
(04:00):
the best of Paris County.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Yeah. In other words, anybody's better than Lena. So so long,
so long, Lena. Good luck to you, all right, good
to hear from you, sir, have a great fighter. The
thirteenth of a great weekend. Let's talk again someday. That's
lad Nvidiac, a political consultant,
