what a few What have we got? Three days to
Christmas Eve, four days to Christmas so let's see Sunday
(02:23):
Monday too, Yep, yep, three days Christmas Eves and four
days to Christmas. So pick up the phone, give me
a call and let's talk some home improvement stuff here
today at seven one three, two one two five eight
seven four. And you know, one of the things I
needed to bring up is the fact that you know,
(02:44):
I talk about this all the time. Uh, certain times
a year you can get better pricing on stuff, and
during the holidays is one of those times because and
I really didn't push this enough this year, but with
the holidays, contractors are trying to keep people busy. I mean,
it doesn't do that any good to send guys home.
(03:04):
They're not making any money. The company's not making any money,
so you know, they start cutting stuff drastically to get
it down Right now, Texas Remodel Team, for instance, has
some great pricing and they're offering twelve months same as
cash on windows. It's and right now they're able to
(03:26):
get their windows as little as four weeks from the
time you order. So, uh, it is a great time
of year to take a look at windows and other
projects like that where people are trying to keep their
crews busy. So keep that in mind as you're going
through these holidays. I mean, yeah, I get it, Christmas is,
like I said, four days out, but uh, you know, what.
(03:50):
That doesn't mean everybody's going to be working the day
after Christmas, so take advantage of it, all right again?
Seven one three, two one two five eight seven four.
Let's head to West University. Charlie.
Speaker 6 (04:03):
This is you.
Speaker 7 (04:04):
I'm how can I help you?
Speaker 8 (04:06):
I have a clogged down spout. The part of the
gutter that goes into the ground above ground has been
cleared out, but they tell me that it goes down
in the ground and onto the sewer. I guess it's clogged.
Could you tell me who could unclog that?
Speaker 7 (04:27):
Well, it depends on what the material is. Is it
the corrugated plastic stuff or is it regular PVC pipe?
Speaker 8 (04:35):
It's it's uh metal, Uh.
Speaker 7 (04:40):
Where's the pc I'm sorry.
Speaker 8 (04:43):
I mean, I'm I'm I'm sorry. I'm about to go.
Uh look at her. That's it's uh, just tc away
from me to take a look.
Speaker 7 (04:52):
Okay. Yeah, if it's black in color, that's usually going
to be the corrugated plastic pipe and for that you
would have to hydro jet it.
Speaker 8 (05:04):
It's yes, there's definitely some sort of plastic huh, okay,
some sort of plastics.
Speaker 7 (05:10):
But if it's but if it's the smooth plastic like
just a regular sewer drain pipe. Then you can run
a snake through it to clean it out. So it
just depends on the material. But either way, a plumber
actually should be able to do that for you with
no big deal.
Speaker 8 (05:27):
Okay, do you have a name of somebody that I
have to call?
Speaker 7 (05:34):
Sure, you can give my office a call d West
Total Plumbings Plumbing. Okay, yep, yeah, seven one three four
seven three seven one five six, and we'd be able
to help you out with it.
Speaker 8 (05:49):
Okay, I didn't get I didn't get that number the
first time, but I got probably on the web due West.
Speaker 7 (05:56):
Okay, we're definitely on the web, but I can give
it to you and it's seven one three four seven
three seven one five six.
Speaker 8 (06:07):
Okay, got it this time.
Speaker 7 (06:08):
All right, thank you, take care, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas.
And again seven one three two one two five eight
seven four. That's seven one three two one two five
eight seven four, And I'll see what I can do
to help you out here on Texas Home Improvement. I
thought he was going to be talking about a drain
(06:28):
line that was acting up, and uh, it reminded me
of one I got a call about a couple of
weeks ago, and where a shower drain was just it
was working periodically, if you know, if they didn't use
the shower for a while, it would start working again,
but then when they used it, it would start draining
(06:52):
real slow. And I said, it's got to be in
the uh vent. You know, the vent is having some
type of issue. So one of my guys went out.
They took a look, and here's what they found. The
house had had some remodeling done and had a new
roof put on as part of the remodeling. But they
(07:16):
moved all the vents, and what they did is the
shower vent came up into the attic and instead of
going through the roof like normal, they took the pipe
way over to another three inch vent and tied all
of the stuff into one vent to take it out.
And it had no cap on it. Rain water when
(07:39):
we had heavy rains was coming down getting into that
pipe and it had a slope on it where it
held the water, and after heavy rains it wasn't allowing
air to come down, so the shower wouldn't drain properly.
(08:00):
You know, you never know what's gonna find when you
start looking into some of this stuff. I knew it
had to be in the vent I just did. I
would not have guessed that being the problem. And just FYI, yes,
I understand that does not meet code. We didn't do
that work. That was just what we found out there.
Uh So, anyways, you got a question. Seven one three,
(08:20):
two one two, five eight seven four. Let's head out
to sea Lee and Mary. How are you today?
Speaker 9 (08:29):
I'm blessed. We have a water softener and when we
go to bite the salt, there's a green package, a
blue package, and a yellow package. What's the difference?
Speaker 7 (08:44):
Want when you learn let me know too, because I
have the same problem when I go to buy the
salt for mine. And I'll be honest with you, I
really don't know what the difference is. I know when
I put my softener in, they told me what the
difference was. I just don't remember what it. And I've
even tried reading the bags and don't can't really see
(09:05):
what the difference is.
Speaker 9 (09:07):
Especially between the yellow and the blue. Yeah, it's the
same price and everything the greens, they say, has to
do with iron.
Speaker 7 (09:17):
Yeah, now I normally use the yellow.
Speaker 9 (09:22):
Okay, Well, thank you so much. I have a blessed day.
Speaker 7 (09:25):
You as well. Merry Christmas you too, and somebody. Feel
free to call in and tell us the difference. I mean,
I've wondered about that myself. On the Assault bags seven
one three two one two five eight seven four. Any
home improvement question you have, feel free to pick up
(09:47):
the phone, give me a call, and I'll see what
I can do to help you out here on Texas
Home Improvement your Total Home Improvement source again seven one
three two one two five eight seven four. And let's
see here. We'll head out to Waller and Chris, this
is the chim How can I help you?
Speaker 10 (10:09):
How are you doing today, sir?
Speaker 7 (10:10):
Wonderful? How about you?
Speaker 10 (10:13):
I'm doing a wonderful, beautiful day.
Speaker 7 (10:15):
It is uh.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
I had just recently moved into a house out here
in Waller and I had a plumber come by and
have to look at something. And he noticed that it's
got PVC lines running for hot water, and he was like, man,
you can't do that.
Speaker 10 (10:29):
Those are going to start leaking.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
I'm just wondering, is that true? Is that something I
need to worry about.
Speaker 7 (10:36):
It's got just to the white PVC lines.
Speaker 5 (10:39):
Yeah, you got CPBC coming out of the hot water here,
but somewhere in there they terminated it and ran into
just PVC.
Speaker 7 (10:48):
No, you're not supposed to use the white for TVC
is supposed to be CPVC the whole way.
Speaker 10 (10:55):
Okay, So it is a problem.
Speaker 7 (10:57):
It is a problem.
Speaker 10 (10:59):
Okay, Like what would you call that on?
Speaker 8 (11:02):
It?
Speaker 10 (11:03):
Very like that will leak eventually?
Speaker 7 (11:06):
Oh, it will eventually. Let me rephrase that it could eventually.
Is it's truthfully, if you're asking me, is it something
I'm gonna lose sleep over and make sure it's taken
care of in the next week. No, but it is
something to keep in mind. How long has it been
(11:29):
that way?
Speaker 10 (11:31):
Gosh, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (11:33):
I'm thinking they had some water damage with the flood
and that that was their that was their solve for it.
Speaker 7 (11:40):
Okay, So you know, well, I guess honestly, if it
was mine, I probably wouldn't do a darn thing about it.
Someday it may become an issue, but uh, I don't
think I'd lose any sleep and jump through hoops to
(12:01):
make something happen over it.
Speaker 10 (12:03):
All right, that's what?
Speaker 5 (12:05):
Yeah, Because the guy gave me a quote to redo it,
and it was like eight grand to come in and
repipe it. Yeah, either go to the top of the
list or bottle of the list.
Speaker 7 (12:16):
You know. The biggest area that you're going to run
into a problem is if you ever go to sell
the house, it may get flagged.
Speaker 10 (12:23):
Okay, all right, well.
Speaker 7 (12:28):
You take care there, and let's talk real quick about
USA Insulation. You know, if you're looking for insulation for
your home and you've heard me talk about USA Insulation
for a long time, you need to give him a call.
I had my house done just about three months ago.
Love it. It really made a huge difference in the
(12:51):
comfort level, the noise level. But where you can really
tell it was in the master bath shower. I mean
when we would have cold days, that shower was always cold.
Now it's great. I love it. And you know, the
nice thing about USA insulation is it's a proprietary, non
(13:11):
expansive phone that they can inject into the wall that
seals all the air, you know, so you don't have
cold air coming through on cold days, which is your
air conditioning going out on warm days. Blocks eighty percent
of the noise just makes the house more comfortable. Four

When Jim Dutton of Texas Home Improvement recommends a company,
he won't steer you wrong and he recommends Guardian roof Systems.
Speaker 7 (14:43):
I said down to League City, Hello, JD.
Speaker 12 (14:45):
Hey, damn, how you doing that?
Speaker 6 (14:47):
Man?
Speaker 12 (14:47):
I did call you last week about a chimneycat fleek
and I've had somebody come out and basically they ripped
me off. You recommended I called Guardian Roofing.
Speaker 8 (14:56):
I did call them.
Speaker 12 (14:57):
The technician came out, he was on time, he's current.
He said, yep, they've used the wrong type of sealment.
So he cleaned it and resealed it and managed that
did it. Kudos to you for recommending Guardian, and kudos
to Guardian for doing a polite, pleasant, good job for me.
I really really appreciate that, and thank you so much.
Speaker 7 (15:16):
You've got take care.

Speaker 7 (15:51):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvements, your old home
improvement source again her number seven one three two one
two five. I've eight seven four. That's seven one three
two one two five eight seven four. Any home improvement
question you have, pick up the phone, give me a
call and I'll see what I can do to help
(16:12):
you out here on Texas Home Improvement again. Seven one
three two one two five eight seven four. So I
had an email question come in from Anthony, and this
is not an uncommon thing that I that I get
questioned about. It says Uh, I have a question about
(16:33):
nail in the sheet sheet rock has been happening here
all through the house. They are pushing back the mud
on the sheet rock and the texture and leaving the
nail exposed. Is this issue with the way the sheet
rock or is this normal? Okay? And I'm assuming what
(16:54):
he's asking. Is this an issue with the way the
sheet rock was installed or is this normal? Well, it
is something that happens when you use nails instead of screws.
The nails as the wood expands and contracts, tends to
push out and walk the nail back out the screws
(17:16):
don't have this problem. Like I say, it's just something
that happens with the nails. So what's the fix. Well,
don't just push the nail back in, because it'll just
do it again. What you can do, though, is pull
the nail out, put a sheet rock screw and then
just take a little sheet rock mud on your finger
and cover up the screw head and you know, match
(17:45):
in with the texture best you can, and then just
paint it and you'll be fine. The problem that normally
causes this is the wood expands and contracts and pushes
the nail out, and it's usually happens to homes that
are just a few years old. By the time a
house is like, you know, ten years old, is not
(18:07):
happening any longer unless you start getting moisture into the house.
Then it can start happening again, because like I said,
it's it's really a matter of the moisture in the wood.
As the moisture dissipates or comes back it, the wood
swells and contracts and walks the nail out. So again,
if you want to avoid this, you just use screws,
(18:30):
sheet rock screws instead of nails. And again, if you
got a home improvement question seven one three two one
two five eight seven four. That's seven one three, two,
one two five eight seven four any home improvement question
you have. Pick up the phone, give me a call,
and I'll see what I can do to help you
(18:51):
out here on Texas Home Improvement your Total home Improvement source.
And another email that came in from Joe about a
toilet tank losing water. He says, love your show and
listen every weekend, but can't call in. When I turn
the water valve off to my toilet, all the water
in the tank gradually disappears after two hours or so,
(19:13):
is not leaking on the floor, and I replace the
flapper to no avail. Is it time to get another toilet?
Or what should be done to fix this issue? This
toilet is a two thousand and seven model, Okay, So
if it's water's not coming out on the floor, it's
obviously going down into the bowl, which is then going
(19:34):
out through the sewer pipes. And more than likely, since
you've replaced the flapper, if you would pick up that
flapper and run your finger around the opening under the flapper,
it's probably going to be rough. It's got mineral deposits
on it that have built up over the years, and
that's what's allowing the water to leak by. And what
(19:57):
you've probably found is it's running up your water bill
because if it's losing enough water to drain that tank
in two hours, you're losing quite a bit of water.
And so the tank is turning on to fill up
on a regular basis. So you got one or two
choices here. One drain the tank and clean up all
that mineral deposits that are built up on that little
(20:19):
ring there. You can scrape them off, file them off,
sand them off. You got to be careful though that
you keep it all nice and flat and smooth. That
then will allow the flapper to seek down. Now, if
you can't get it to come off, and sometimes you can't.
It sometimes is stubborn enough you just plane can't get
it off. Then your choice goes the other direction and
(20:43):
is just replace the toilet. No, you got an O
seven toilet, And have they modernized the toilet and made
it more efficient for you and all that stuff. No,
everything they've done with the government regulations have just made
the toilet worse for us. But nonetheless, uh, sometimes they
(21:04):
do just wear out normally, what wears out is the
porcelain in the bowl itself, so all the solids don't
flush away like they should. But you know, with as
much mineral deposit as if you probably got built up
in that drain line there, I probably wouldn't hurt if
you just went ahead and replaced it again. Our number
(21:26):
seven one three two one two five eight seven four.
Any home improvement question, half, pick up the phone, give
me a call, and let's talk about it here on

Don't predict the Grinch.
Speaker 13 (23:04):
I know is mean and hearing, snowy, but I think
he's actually kind of sweet.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
Sweet from the Texas Home Improvement Family to yours. Merry
Christmas and a happy New Year. Here's more with Jim
Dunton on Texas Home Improvement. Well saddle look a lone
back daddy, her.
Speaker 7 (23:27):
Daddy looks at hey. Welcome back to Texas Home Improvement
your total home Improvement source seven one three, two one
two five eight seven four. We're going to head out
to spring and Lucy, how lucky. How can I help you?
Speaker 13 (23:46):
So?
Speaker 3 (23:47):
I have an air conditioning question. I heard on the
radio that next year all the air conditioners, everything system's
going to be expensive.
Speaker 7 (23:57):
They're going up, Yes, ma'am.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
Okay, So my system. It's been really good, twenty five
years old. It's running well. So I thought about doing it,
and then I told my ac man and he said, well,
you know it's running well. Here's another way of doing it.
So he said to go ahead and get the parts
like four ton condenser with the coil and a jug
(24:23):
of refrigeran, and then also by the furnish the parts,
you know, and then just have to sit in the
garage and then whenever it goes bad then he can
replace it. What do you think of this concept?
Speaker 7 (24:36):
I think he's an idiot really, honestly. Yes, you've got
a twenty five year old system. And I don't call
too many people idiots. I do every once in a while,
but you got a twenty five year old system. It
cannot be operating efficiently any longer. You've probably got a
pretty good electric bill going at least when you're running
(24:57):
the system, and if whether it's sitting in your garage
or installed, the time is already ticking away on any
warranty on those parts and stuff. No, if you're going
to go down that road, change it out and be
done with it. So just yes, you're looking at a
(25:23):
thirty to forty percent cost difference after you go to
the new coolant. And I put it that way because
they just recently had a change where the manufacturers were
not going to be able to sell the old systems
after January first. They have now extended that so they
(25:43):
can still sell them, but they're not making any more
of them, and so they're getting very difficult to get.
But there are still some available. You know, why would
you not just change it out now and not have
the price. I understand it's still working, and there's a
lot of AC technicians that take the stance that, well,
(26:07):
it's still working. Why do I want to change it?
Because I'm having an electric bill that could probably be
cut in half by changing out to a newer system,
and it's under warranty where I'm not having to buy
parts and stuff. No, I don't think putting it in
the garage and just leaving it is a wise decision
(26:28):
at all.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
So what are the new system run now? Before January?
Speaker 7 (26:38):
Do you know what size you have? It's four ton okay?
Speaker 8 (26:42):
Electric?
Speaker 7 (26:44):
Okay, You're going to be ranging anywhere from It'll depend
on the brand you go with, UH and what's going
to be involved in the installation and that's the installation
is the big part. Uh So it could run as
little as probably eight thousand to up to I'm gonna
(27:06):
throw all probably sixteen. It's going to be somewhere in there.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
That's quite a range.
Speaker 7 (27:13):
It is a range because it depends on, like I said,
the manufacture and what's going to be involved in the
installation and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
So who could do it for eight? Do you have anybody?
Speaker 7 (27:27):
I don't know who can do it for eight because
I don't know what's going to be involved in putting
it in. It's and look, you can get the cheapest
contractor you want, but if they don't put it in, right,
I don't care. If you buy a Cadillac system, it's
not going to work, right.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
No, I wouldn't right. Yeah, So this system lastly loan Yep.
Speaker 7 (27:47):
What brand is it?
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (27:51):
I don't know?
Speaker 3 (27:52):
Okay, I have to go look.
Speaker 7 (27:55):
At it, and it doesn't matter. I was curious, Yeah,
I mean I.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Knew was the house is twenty five years old, so
they put it in when they first when we first
build it.
Speaker 7 (28:05):
Okay, well then it's it's probably a leaking free a
little bit yep. And you know with the with the
new systems. You're not going to want the new systems
leaking free on at all. Uh. You know a lot
of times people will try to fill them a little
bit as time goes on. The new coolant is propaane
(28:27):
based and so zero leaking, and it's got and the
reason for the added expense is because it's propaine based.
It's got a lot of safety features and different things
like that on it that are going to cost more
money to monitor and stuff. Now, I will tell you though, Lucy,
your other choice is you leave the system in. When
(28:52):

to help you out here on Texas Home Improvement. Let's
head to Austin and Bob. This is Jim. How can
(35:08):
I help you?
Speaker 3 (35:10):
Oh?
Speaker 16 (35:10):
Yes, sir, thank you for taking my.
Speaker 7 (35:11):
Call, sir, my pleasure.
Speaker 6 (35:13):
Uh uh you know what.
Speaker 16 (35:15):
I called you about two or three weeks ago, and
I didn't write it down.
Speaker 12 (35:18):
I was asking you.
Speaker 14 (35:18):
I had two questions.
Speaker 16 (35:19):
But firston is considered concerns that one day turn around
a shower or the showers that they make, and you
told me there was a certain he said that you
gave him a pretty good grade, but he said, uh,
onyx the best, all right, but there was a certain
a certain material they use or should you with if
(35:40):
you prefer that, sometimes they don't use. I guess we're
I guess you were talking about the tile.
Speaker 7 (35:45):
You can use tile if if you'd like. But on
those one piece walls, you know where they where, it's
just one saw a piece. I like a product called
Onyx Onyx.
Speaker 16 (35:57):
Yeah, okay, I got you. I'll write it down now, Okay, Okay,
Then my next question is Okay the house that I have,
it was built.
Speaker 14 (36:06):
In nineteen fifty four.
Speaker 7 (36:09):
Okay, real good shape.
Speaker 16 (36:11):
It's a real good shape. But we never had it insulated.
The only portion we had insulated.
Speaker 8 (36:15):
Was the attic.
Speaker 16 (36:18):
Okay, they blow in, you know, they blowing that material.
Speaker 7 (36:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 16 (36:23):
But one of my neighbors, about a year ago, they
had some insulation company come by you know where they
insert that liquid or boam inside the side of the house.
Speaker 6 (36:32):
They drill holes.
Speaker 7 (36:33):
Right, it's a non expansive phone. There's there's a couple
of companies out to do it.
Speaker 16 (36:37):
Okay, right, but what do you think of that overalls?
Speaker 17 (36:42):
That's that's pretty decent.
Speaker 16 (36:43):
Can you tell the difference you think it were?
Speaker 7 (36:45):
Well, big, big time. I just had my house done
about three weeks ago or three months ago.
Speaker 10 (36:52):
Well that type of interest.
Speaker 7 (36:56):
Yep, Yeah, they drilled holes. I have a brick house,
so they drilled holes through the brick mortar and did it.
And part of my house has a hearty siding and
and so they you know, remove a section and do that.
But uh oh no, I love that. The company I
use is u s A Insulation right, and uh it
(37:19):
works extremely well.
Speaker 16 (37:22):
Okay, it's just one more question concerned that the house
that we have it has that old type of sighting
that they used back in the fifties and sixty.
Speaker 6 (37:31):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 16 (37:32):
It's it's like it's like uh concrete, but they're they're boxed.
Speaker 7 (37:38):
Yeah, it's it's about two foot tall and I mean
one foot tall and two foot wide. Uh and and
quite frankly, they're there asbestos pieces, is what they are, right.
Speaker 6 (37:50):
That's right?
Speaker 16 (37:52):
And do they they those off or do they drill
through that? Because when they just break, if they drill through.
Speaker 7 (37:57):
That, yeah, you don't. You don't want to drill through
the And quite frankly, if you try to take them off,
you're more likely going to break them as well, because
at this point, at that age, they're they're more fragile
than glasses. Now. The other the other choice is they
can come inside and drive from the inside and drop
(38:20):
it into the walls as well. But honestly, with that
type of wall covering, I would not put it from
the outside unless you're getting ready to reside the house.
Speaker 10 (38:34):
Oh yeah, I thought about that.
Speaker 16 (38:37):
If I were to reside the house with what would
you consider? Would you go wood or James?
Speaker 7 (38:48):
I would go with James Hardy siding. Catch that James
Hardy siding. It's a cement based sighting and uh, it
holds paint extremely well. Uh, you don't have to worry
about it rotting it. Bugs aren't going to eat it,
none of that kind of stuff because it's cement based.
(39:09):
And so that's what I would take a look at.
Speaker 16 (39:14):
Are they like a little slabs like the one I
have now, just different.
Speaker 7 (39:17):
They they they actually do make some pieces to semi
match that.
Speaker 16 (39:23):
Yes, all right, I might think about that because I've
been I think our house gets kind of cold or
it gets at hot.
Speaker 7 (39:32):
You know, I'm sure it does. I mean you've got
no energy efficiency at all with without insulation in the walls.
Speaker 16 (39:40):
Yeah, okay, I appreciate your I'll write it.
Speaker 7 (39:43):
Down and get it all right, no problem, you have
a merry Christmas, right, yeah, And you know my personal
house I have brick and Hearty siding on it, and
actually the townhouse I have Hardy siding and brick on
(40:04):
it as well. So no, I love James Hardy siding.
It's extremely durable, holds paint better than wood or anything.
So definitely the way I would take a look at
putting any type of siding on. And when I do
remodeling projects or build anything, that is the siding that
(40:25):
I always use because it is, you know, despite what
some contractors say, oh it's hard to use, No it's not.
It's just like using a wooden board. It's very easy
to use. And some people try to tell you, oh
it's too heavy. It's going to cause foundation problems. Your
foundation doesn't even know what's on there, and that's coming
from a foundation repair Contractor is it a little heavier
(40:48):
than wood? Absolutely? Is it so heavy that your foundation
knows it? No, don't worry about it. We're gonna take
a quick break. We'll be right back with more Texas
Home Provement seven one three, two, one two, five eight

and Butch. This is Jim. How can I help you? Hello, Butch? Oh,
they got the radio in the background. Yeah, we're We're
gonna have to put that one on on hold for now. Uh. Look,
(50:32):
I had when you do call in, you do have
to listen on the phone because there is a delay.
They and it's not just me, you know, obviously as
a contractor, they don't know what may come out of
my mouth. But uh, beyond that, uh, they also don't
know what a caller might say sometimes, so uh, there
is a delay to keep things clean. Hello, Butch, how
(50:56):
can I help you?
Speaker 6 (50:58):
Hey?
Speaker 12 (50:59):
You doing, Jim?
Speaker 7 (51:00):
All right? You have a great show, Thank you, sir.
Speaker 18 (51:03):
Hey, Hey, I've got a question about sixty year old
you know, twelve inch by twelve inch pilings down and
gallaston that are rotted underneath. Yeah, and the best thing
you can do besides replacing.
Speaker 7 (51:20):
Them, there are a couple of things that have come
out now for working on those. One of them is
actually digging down around them because normally it's just rotted
right near the surface. And so in some cases what
(51:40):
they've been able to do is dig around, put in
a sleeve around the wood column and then fill that
with concrete to bond everything back together. But a lot
of times people don't have enough space for doing that,
and there's other considerations as you know, how much rot
(52:01):
there is and stuff like that and aesthetics. There is
another product called that's made of carbon fiber that have
come out with some repairs for these columns as well,
and it's extremely thin.
Speaker 10 (52:19):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (52:19):
Basically, you got to take all the bad wood off
and you fill the void and then this carbon fiber
goes in to tie all the pieces together and stuff.
And the carbon fiber is extremely strong and doesn't doesn't
require a lot more space like doing the concrete around
(52:41):
it would. So there are a couple of options available.
I will tell you the carbon fiber gets a little pricey,
but it does a great job.
Speaker 18 (52:51):
So does Is the carbon fiber a wrap more or less?
Speaker 3 (52:55):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (52:57):
Yes?
Speaker 18 (52:58):
Okay, so him many times you have to wrap? It
does depends on how the how much you're.
Speaker 7 (53:04):
Well and it's not necessarily that you're wrapping multiple things
around it. A lot of times it's a sheet that'll
come down from the top going down to the bottom.
Other times, yes, it is is it is a wrap. Uh,
it's kind of custom designed for each application.
Speaker 18 (53:25):
Well, that sounds very interesting. Where do you know companies
that do the carbon fiber or where you can buy
the carbon fiber.
Speaker 7 (53:34):
They're actually there's carbon fiber places. I don't have the
name and numbers with me right now, but if you
want to call my office at Due West, I can
definitely get that for you. I've looked at doing it,
but be honest with you, I have not put together
a project and done it yet. So and I don't
(53:57):
know really. I just went to a class on it
a couple of months ago, and so I really don't
know who's doing it yet. I just know of the products.
Speaker 18 (54:08):
Well, that sounds very interesting.
Speaker 6 (54:11):
You know.
Speaker 18 (54:12):
The the only thing that concerns me, you know, in
a hurricane, you know, when the tides flowing through there
going you know, fast and with four feet of water,
you know, it's gotta it's got to hold up to it.
Speaker 7 (54:26):
Well, I will tell you that it's used on concrete
and basements and concrete columns and stuff. Like that, and
it's it actually holds up better than the concrete does.
So wow, I don't think I don't think you'll have
a problem with that.
Speaker 18 (54:43):
Well awesome. Well look I'll I'll give your company a
call and uh and find out the number. Okay, is
there anybody particular, anybody particular I A should talk asked
for it.
Speaker 7 (54:55):
There's going to be three people who will know what
you're talking about when you call in, and it'll either
be me, my brother Kenny, or Nick, the guy who

Love Saint. Somebody sned stone meat. I didn't rent, and
now it stinks. Nobody sned stone meat. I tried to
place the insulation, got fiberglass in my circulation. How I'm
covered in an itch insation some of snach stone mate. Oh,
(59:12):
Jim dot faw Christmas. My wife is driving me mad?
Why Jim waw Christmas.
Speaker 17 (59:28):
Goes?
Speaker 19 (59:29):
All my dang projects went mad.
Speaker 1 (59:33):
Here's more Texas Home Improvement with Jim Dunton.
Speaker 7 (59:38):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvement seven one three, two,
one two, five, eight seven four. So we've had a
lot of talk here in the last month month and
a half about the new coolans for the air conditioning
systems and stuff, and there's been a little bit of
change on the timing of everything. It's still taking effect
(01:00:01):
January first, but they have extended the time out that
the manufacturers can sell the old stuff. But they've already
started making the news, so there's no more of the
old going to be made. But I had the opportunity
to talk with Carl from American Standard and Aces the
supply house for them, yesterday, and I'd like to play
(01:00:22):
that interview real quick for you. So let's do that. Hey, Carl,
how are you today?
Speaker 14 (01:00:28):
I am great, mister Jim, how are you, sir?
Speaker 7 (01:00:30):
I'm doing wonderful. So we've talked a little bit in
the past about this new coolant and it is now
definitely upon us. What do we need to know at
this point?
Speaker 14 (01:00:44):
So at this point, just so you know what's happening,
we have the new refrigerant that's coming out. It's categoriized
as a two L refrigerant type. And we are definitely
in the phasing out process of the current which is
our four ten A. And so as we speak now,
(01:01:04):
it's kind of towards the end of twenty twenty four.
I am running out of our four ten A. I
still have some. So if you are thinking even remotely
thinking about changing out your AC unit for many different reasons,
I would highly get a hold of somebody very quickly,
obviously a licensed contractor to come out there and get
(01:01:26):
you a quote on it. If you are in that
need of a new unit systems older multiple problems in
the past. But so I currently have our fourteen A
right now, but every day I'm selling more and more
of it. And what has happened is the government has
said no more our four TENA. We have to switch
(01:01:48):
over to a new refrigerant that gets under seven hundred GWP,
so that stands for global warming potential. Our four ten
A is way higher than seven hundred and so we
have decided an American standard and most of the industry
has decided with a refrigerant off four point fifty four B.
And so with that refrigerant, the main thing is it
(01:02:11):
is slightly flammable, and so there are going to be
more controls and sensors on our equipment to pick up
if there's ever the slightest leak of that equipment that
it will a system will shut down and why a
licensed contractor will come out there and fix that problem.
(01:02:32):
So with that being said, more controls, more control boards
and wires. That's going to increase how much this product costs.
And so at some point we're going to be forced
into it. There's nothing we can do about that, but
just trying to get the information out there as much
as possible. If you are even remotely thinking about changing
(01:02:55):
out your system, I would highly recommend doing that sooner
than later.
Speaker 7 (01:03:00):
So if somebody say, has an older system, and they say, okay,
well you know it's working now, I'm just going to
go ahead and take my chances and keep going. And
next year or a year and a half from now,
whatever the compressor outside goes out, are they going to
be able to just slap a new compressor or a
(01:03:22):
new outside unit on with the old unit in the
attic or they looking at a complete change out at
that time.
Speaker 14 (01:03:30):
It's going to be a complete changeout. So we don't
want to mix refrigerants. Obviously it's completely different refrigerants. Both
of them are going to be needed to change out.
The new coil that will be inside the attic will
have the sensors, have the capabilities, the safety issue, the
safety mechanisms on there to do that. So if you
(01:03:52):
just slapped the old condenser outside, you do not have
those safety requirements anymore than the attic, and you definitely
don't want to take that chance in your house, especially
most of it's in the attic as well. So yes,
we will be changing out both sets pieces your furnace
(01:04:13):
can stay with American standard products. There's nothing happening. There's
no refrigerant in the furnace, so that can stay. Well,
So that's great, that's good news. But yes, sir, both
of them will definitely need to be changed out.
Speaker 7 (01:04:26):
Okay, And the time frame because originally they were saying that,
you know, the supply houses like aces weren't going to
be able to start selling or weren't going to be
able to sell the four ten a's after the first
of the year. But they've extended that somewhat.
Speaker 14 (01:04:45):
Yes, that was the biggest challenge this year, trying to
figure out what the government don't let us do not do.
It changed so many times throughout the month, and so
finally towards the end they get we got a clear
definition and hopefully they didn't change it. They did not,
so any they manufacturers can make our four ten day
products all the way up until the end of the
(01:05:07):
of twenty twenty four, and then it has to be
in my warehouse and I can sell it all the
way through twenty twenty five.
Speaker 7 (01:05:18):
Oh, they extended quite a bit then.
Speaker 14 (01:05:20):
Yeah, so I got all year to sell it through
twenty twenty five. However, I will not have it all
throughout the year. We're already running low on it too,
So don't think that, oh I don't have to wait
till later on because it will be bought up. It
would all be used up way before twenty twenty five.
Speaker 7 (01:05:37):
Well, most manufacturers have already made the switch, so it's
really just a matter of what's on hand at this point.
Speaker 14 (01:05:44):
Absolutely, absolutely, so I'm kind of glad that we're having
this conversation towards the end of the year. Other people
have ran out many months ago during the summer heat,
and that was something that's obviously never going to be
switching something in the middle of summer. But so yeah,
so we still have some right now. It's just the
(01:06:04):
main point. And but yes, everybody will be switching over
to this sooner than later.
Speaker 10 (01:06:10):
Absolutely.
Speaker 7 (01:06:11):
Well, you know, are they telling us if they're going
to stick with this one for a while or are
they already talking about another coolant down the road?
Speaker 14 (01:06:18):
Yeah, great question. So there some seems like everything changes
about every two years in our industry. Something is changing dramatically.
So they're already talking about seven hundred and the ZWP
is the threshold. Now we decided to go with a
refrigerant of four fifty four B just because it's way
(01:06:40):
under seven hundred. It's like in the four hundred category.
And so if there is any regulatory changes down the road,
because that's what people are already thinking of if they
try to go, Okay, seven hundred is good for twenty
twenty five, maybe in twenty twenty seven or twenty twenty,
(01:07:00):
we're going to change that. We are hoping that we
do we can stick without four point fifty four B
and we won't have to change anything. There is another
type of refrigerant and another manufacturer is going with and
it is way higher than four hundred, so it's barely
below seven hundred. So those guys, if that happens, are
(01:07:20):
going to have to redesign a whole bunch of other equipment.
So we're thinking ahead, trying as much as we possibly can.
And uh and that's the reason why we're going with
the refrigerant that we have right now that will.
Speaker 7 (01:07:32):
Be using well well. Carl, I appreciate the update from
American Standard, appreciate the time you took with us, and
we will talk again later.
Speaker 14 (01:07:41):
Thank you very much, sir.
Speaker 7 (01:07:42):
Thanks and there you got it. The systems are changing
and the time has been extended a little bit, but
the equipment's just not going to be available. So with
that you get a home improven question seven one three, two,
one two, five eight seven four. Let's head to Spring Branch. Jim.
This is Jim. How can I help you?
Speaker 21 (01:08:03):
Hey, Jim, I've got a smaller house that the power
runner had added a small utility room on the back
of it, and uh, one side of it has come
away from the house a little bit like a couple
of inches, and so I was wondering if you could
recommend some kind of foam product or something I could
use to kind of fill that in that would be
(01:08:25):
resistant to terrain and you know, such as that.
Speaker 7 (01:08:31):
So when they put it butted up against it, they
didn't extend the siding or anything, and it's just butted
up and straight open joint.
Speaker 21 (01:08:45):
Yes, and uh, you know they had nails that he's
kind of like somewhat of a hit or miss.
Speaker 7 (01:08:53):
Yeah, And so.
Speaker 21 (01:08:58):
I had I replaced the little roof one it and
I've been using the screws to put it all together
so that it you know, if there's something that needs
to come up, then it pulls it up and straightens
it out and as such as that. Yeah, but that filler,
I mean, I would have to have something like a
small tractor with an old tire to kind of push
(01:09:19):
that the top of that of one side of it
back to get it firm up against the house. And
I don't have any anything like that, So I'm just
kind of wondering, well, you know what can I do
for now just to seal that up.
Speaker 7 (01:09:34):
And Jim, maybe it's don't mind. I got to take
this break for news, traffic and weather. I'm gonna put
you on hold, and yeah, I've got some stuff I
think that we can talk about to help you out
with that seven one three two one two five eight
the seven four. Let's talk real quick about USA insulation.
I mean you've heard me talk about them for years.
I had them do my house about three months ago.
(01:09:57):
And I gotta tell you, when it comes to putting
phone into your existing walls, they have a proprietary non
expansive phone they can inject right into those walls and
it'll get you the best our value. It has a
great fire rating and cancels up to eighty percent of
the noise as well, So if you're trying to make
(01:10:18):
your house more comfortable, more energy efficient. You need to
call USA Insulation four zero nine four one nine four
nine zero nine. That's four zero nine four one nine
four nine zero nine. If you want to look up
and get more information, go to our website tchipro dot
(01:10:40):
com and click on the link for USA Insulation. I
love what it did for my house. You will too.
Check out USA Insulation and the Star.
Speaker 15 (01:10:56):
See it's at.
Speaker 1 (01:11:01):
Texas Christmas Day. Merry Christmas from Texas Home Improvement. Here's
more with Jim Dutton.
Speaker 7 (01:11:10):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvements. Seven one three, two,
one two, five eight seven four. When we left, I
was talking with Jim, and uh, Jim, this thing is pulling.
Is it a room edition or is it just a patio.
Speaker 21 (01:11:27):
It's just a little utility room for holding the like appliances,
you know.
Speaker 3 (01:11:32):
Yep.
Speaker 7 (01:11:33):
And so the gap that you're wanting to close up
is in the wall itself.
Speaker 21 (01:11:39):
Correct, Well, it's it's where the room has started to
pull away from the outside of the house.
Speaker 7 (01:11:46):
Right, so you know, we can let some air come
in there, right, But it's in the It's not just
the roof that you're concerned with. It is the the
outside wall itself is getting a gap in.
Speaker 21 (01:12:00):
It, exactly. Yeah, the roof is taking care of okay,
And yeah, it's just the wall.
Speaker 7 (01:12:06):
You're right right. And and what is the sighting.
Speaker 21 (01:12:10):
The sighting is cedar shake, shingles.
Speaker 7 (01:12:12):
Ah, okay, And so there was it was there a
clean joint there then.
Speaker 21 (01:12:20):
No, it was just a budded right up next to
them to the cedar shake with a two.
Speaker 7 (01:12:25):
By four and and and nailing.
Speaker 21 (01:12:28):
Through the ceedar shake to get to the underlying uh
two by four wars on the inside of the house.
Speaker 7 (01:12:34):
Okay, Well here's what I would do then. I mean,
obviously it's walking. You got to find out why it's
walking that way and get a stop to that. And
normally it's a moisture change issue where the soil is
getting wet and dry and as it goes up and down,
this thing is gonna walk away. But it's yeah, yeah, yeah,
(01:12:58):
and and that's that's gonna make it. It's it's going
to do it. Then use a spray foam insulation in there.
Take your trim piece off that was put in to
put the two together. If there was one, fill that
up with the spray foam. Just get you some great stuff.
They make different ones. They make a red can which
(01:13:20):
will expand with force. They make a blue can for
window and doors that that doesn't do that. I would
fill it with the red can because it'll set up hard.
And then yeah, then you can cover it up with
a piece of trim again, like a one by four
or one by Why does this sounds like it's getting
(01:13:40):
You may have to use a one by six that
you can nail on both sides of it, and that'll
seal it up to where you're not getting water going
in any longer.
Speaker 21 (01:13:52):
So if I go into the local hardware or a
home depot or loads or whatever, they'll have it. If
they're going to ask for world. Do you have a
name for it?
Speaker 7 (01:14:01):
Do I just it's it's called great stuff? Oh, great stuff.
Speaker 21 (01:14:05):
Oh that's the name of it.
Speaker 7 (01:14:08):
And the scribe and it comes in and the can's
come in two different colors. One is red, one is blue.
You want the red can? Okay?
Speaker 12 (01:14:17):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (01:14:19):
If you have time, go ahead.
Speaker 21 (01:14:20):
Jim, is there any recommendation zone?
Speaker 12 (01:14:22):
Like?
Speaker 21 (01:14:23):
I haven't put the uh you know I did. I'd
never done a roof before, and back in eighty one
I bought a book from home deepot and red on
how to do it, and I replaced the the composite
shingles on our roof here and back when I could.
I didn't have arthritis at all. But I called a
company that Jill had recommended, Guardian Roofing, and they came
(01:14:44):
up three different.
Speaker 10 (01:14:47):
What do you call it?
Speaker 21 (01:14:48):
Plans, And one of them was describing this like when
I worked the valleys back in eighty one, I put
in flashing and they're saying that they don't use that anymore.
They use this up that's better than that called ice
and water or water and ice or ice shield. Okay,
is that pretty easy for someone to figure out on
(01:15:10):
how to put that down?
Speaker 7 (01:15:12):
Or oh yeah, it just comes in. It comes in
a roll and you literally just roll it out and
it sticks down in the valley.
Speaker 21 (01:15:22):
Okay, yeah, because this this little addition, the pitch, the
angle is not very is not much, ye, And so
you know, I'm thinking maybe that would be the better
way to go instead of you know, the felt, the
tarf felt and then the composite shingle back again.
Speaker 7 (01:15:41):
Well, now it's it's it's got to have something over
it when you put it on, because it's it's not
made for constant son.
Speaker 3 (01:15:50):
U v Uh.
Speaker 7 (01:15:51):
It's got no UV protection on it or anything, so
uh huh. Yeah, you would put it down and then
shingles or whatever you want to put on it would go.
Speaker 21 (01:16:00):
Over it right right listen. She appreciate all your your tips,
recommendations and helping us here in the Houston and Central
Texas area. Uh, pleasure, thanks all the and Merry Christmas.
Speaker 7 (01:16:15):
Gim merry Christmas to you as well. Take care okay
and again seven one three two one two five eight
seven four joy in Cleveland. How can I help you?
Speaker 13 (01:16:31):
Yes, I have a friend who has I think an
issue with similar to what the guy had with the water.
Speaker 6 (01:16:38):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (01:16:40):
She lives right next to Lake Conroe. Uh huh, and
she's been a widow for quite a while and doesn't
know much about construction. So I'm trying to help her
a little bit to see if we can figure out
how quickly and how she can get some help to
figure out what she needs to do. The storm we
(01:17:03):
had caused separation of the exterior walls, and I think
one interior wall or two interior walls is showing a
little bit signs of it too. But it is built
not as a straight tube y four on that one
(01:17:24):
exterior wall, but it has an angle like an arch
at the ceiling and that's where it's shown primarily. So
I'm trying to figure out is that a issue that's
requiring a slab examination or.
Speaker 7 (01:17:43):
It kind of sounds like it, because if you're getting
some separations and cracking in the sheet rock and stuff
like that, yes, you'd want to get one of the
You have one of my guys come out from de
West Foundation Repair and they can take take a look
and get you guys headed in the right direction with it.
Speaker 13 (01:18:05):
Okay. Is that very expensive to look at it?
Speaker 7 (01:18:09):
No, to get them to look at it, it doesn't cost
you anything.
Speaker 13 (01:18:13):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (01:18:14):
Now to get the work done, yes, that does cost
But getting us out to look at it, that won't
cost you anything. And you know, giving up where given
the area that you're at. Uh tell him, I said
that Jeremy needs to come out.
Speaker 3 (01:18:34):
Okay.
Speaker 13 (01:18:36):
I guess I probably need to be there when when
they come out.
Speaker 7 (01:18:40):
Yes, ma'am that we'll need inside to look at it
and everything. And the office number is seven to one
three four seven three seven one five six.
Speaker 13 (01:18:56):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:18:59):
Because she got a.
Speaker 13 (01:19:02):
Deal from the storm damage but I don't think it's
if it requires very much repair that it'll cover it. Sure,
so we'll need to have a checked I guess well.
Speaker 7 (01:19:17):
Thank you very much, You're welcome. You have a merry Christmas.
Speaker 13 (01:19:21):
Merry Christmas to you and everyone else.
Speaker 7 (01:19:25):
Thank you mans bye bye.
Speaker 3 (01:19:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:19:28):
In fact that you know, du West Foundation Pair can
come take a look at that. And you know, do
WES has several different divisions. The Foundation re Pair can
take care of doing obviously foundationing pair, lifting houses up
out of flood waters, retaining walls, preventative maintenance like root shields, irrigation, drainage,
(01:19:50):
concrete work, we do all of that. Then we have
our air Conditioning division. Whether you just need routine service
or you want to full tune up on your unit,
or you know you need replacement, you want to get
one in before the price change, we can absolutely help
you with that air quality. We do have. You know,

if you need it, we do have those things available.
Speaker 10 (01:20:23):
Uh.

dripping faucet, or replumbing the house with water lines or
sewer lines even under the house. Do West can take
care of all those items for you. So when you
want the best, you call due West. That's seven to
one three four seven three seven one five six.

Yeah.
Speaker 14 (01:21:02):
Absolutely, it's a great way to add some square footage
to the house in an economical way.
Speaker 17 (01:21:07):
Add on a sunroom, you know, and we can do
it framed, finish out in hardy or brick, or it
could be.
Speaker 2 (01:21:12):
As simple as luminum framed sunroom.
Speaker 7 (01:21:15):
Remodel what you have add on?
Speaker 2 (01:21:17):
Yeah, absolutely covered porch or you're like, yeah, even if
we need to build one.
Speaker 17 (01:21:21):
We've got some excellent financing for the remainder of November.
We're offering a twelve month same as cash that would
take you into twenty twenty six.
Speaker 14 (01:21:31):
It with a same as cash.
Speaker 7 (01:21:32):

Speaker 7 (01:21:50):
You know, James Hardy Siding is the best siding in
the world. I mean, this stuff is amazing. If you
if you're looking for siding to build a home or
remodel or reside, you know, take a look at James
Hardy siding. It's cement based. It holds paint better than
any other material I've seen, including wood and metal and
(01:22:12):
all that stuff. You don't have to worry about it rotting,
catching fire bugs eating it because it is cement based.
And you've got so many choices of what to go with. Obviously,
you know, if you got lap siding, we've all seen that,
and a lot of times we don't even realize it
is James Hardy siding. But they've got the wood shake,
(01:22:32):
they've got the stucco look, they've got T one eleven.
I mean, virtually any type of look you're going for,
James Hardy Siding has it. They even have all the
trim and facia and soffotboards you need. So you're looking
for sighting, You're looking for James Hardy siding.
Speaker 14 (01:23:07):
All right, do you get the idea?
Speaker 1 (01:23:09):
Merry Christmas from your Total home improvement source and Jim Dunton.
Speaker 7 (01:23:16):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvement seven one three, two,
one two, five eight seven four. So I had an
email come in about an hour ago from Dennis and
uh it's regarding sewer orders. And he says, Hi, Jim,
during the winter months, when the temperature drops into the thirties,
we get this sewer oder coming from the main bathroom.
(01:23:40):
Only any idea what could be causing this? It's only
in the winter months. Actually, I do have an idea.
It's going to be vent related and it can be
one of a couple of things. One depending on where
the vent is, if it's going up through the attic
and up through the roof. When the wind shifts and
(01:24:04):
is coming from the north and dropping the temperatures, the
way the wind comes over, it could be blowing it
down into the house. Not normally you're gonna smell it
in more than one area. But it can have to
do with the way it's oriented, with the way the
winds blow and everything. But since you're very specific as
far as the temperature is causing it, what I'm suspecting
(01:24:27):
is it's not venting up through the roof. What I'm
suspecting is it's got one of these burpie type vents
in the bathroom, and when the plumbing is being used,
this thing burps, and the way the temperatures are, it's
not allowing it to move out of the attic like
it should because typically the way the attic vents is
(01:24:51):
hot air rises, it goes out through the vent. New
air comes in through the soffits. When it's extremely cold out,
the hot air is not really escaping out because it
gets cool in the attic, And so you can tend
to have some of this kind of issues if they're
using one of these type of vents. They're not real common,
(01:25:12):
but they are out there in some cases.
Speaker 8 (01:25:15):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (01:25:15):
And it could be even that that vent is failing
and not opening and closing like it should. But my
guess is it's strictly temperature related. So what I would do,
I would have if you want to, you can go
in the attic or have somebody go in the attic
near that master bathroom see where the vent's going. If
(01:25:37):
it's going out the roof, hey, then you can put
a cap on it and probably solve this problem. If
it's like I'm thinking, and it's just vented up into
the attic, you can just vent it up through the
roof and solve this problem. So hopefully that'll take care
of the issue for you there again seven one three
two one two five eight seven four. Any home improvement
(01:25:59):
question you have, feel free to pick up the phone,
give me a call. We'll see what we can do

run fans or you know under you know, block and base,
peer and beam homes for ventilation, different things like that,
and they and They've done a lot of electrical work
at my office a little bit at the house. They
just they know what they're doing. They do a great job,

you as well. Again, it's right touch electrical two eight
one six, four, five, five five two six and seven
one three two one two five eight seven four. Let's
(01:27:35):
see here, I need to move that to complete it.
There we go. Uh, this one's kind of a little
bit different. Rod says, I'm in the process of having
a full house generator installed. However, the City of Pasadena
now requires an elevation certificate specifically for a generator. My
(01:28:00):
house elevation certificate apparently does not suffice any land surveyors
in my area Brookwood Subdivision off Bay Area Boulevard that
you might recommend. Thank you, Rod, I don't know of any.
I know there are some, but you know, I hate
(01:28:23):
to say this because I'm in the city of Pasadena.
My business is in the city of Pasadena. It is
my hometown and it drives me nuts at the permit
department is just going stupid on some of this stuff.
But if you've got the elevation certificate for the foundation,
I don't see where they shouldn't be able to use that.
(01:28:45):
You may have to do a little arguing and go
up the ladder a little bit to get this taken
care of. Common sense says you shouldn't have to do this,
but if you need it, it's going to be kind
of costly. It's not a cheap thing get done. I
wish I had somebody to say hey or call, but
I honestly I don't. Okay, let's talk real quick about

the day, Tom and Katie. How can I help you?
Speaker 2 (01:32:40):
Hey, Jim, I have a placed up in Wimberley and
I'm looking to lay some LVP kind of throughout the
first floor. It's got a press concrete floor in it now,
so I'm going to have to level it out before
I put down the LVP and just looking for any
tips on getting that right. Is a do I wire
(01:33:02):
or d wire and then floating versus glued on the LVP.
Speaker 7 (01:33:08):
Always floating, love floating. Now, as far as putting in
the floor leveler, it's it's very simple. Gets you a
one by four that's nice and straight, or aluminum screet
or something that's anywhere from four to six feet long.
You mix up the floor leveler and you're gonna want
to use the self leveling type. You can get it
(01:33:30):
at floor into core. You dump it and spread it
out and just use that one by four or two
by four whatever you want to handle as a big
trowel to spread it out. And any little ridges they'll
they'll tend to just settle down on their own. That's
why it's called self leveling. But that just gives you
nice wide swaths of leveling it and it comes out great.
Speaker 2 (01:33:54):
Okay, any common mistakes you see with leveling floors, It
sounds almost idiot.
Speaker 7 (01:34:00):
Proof, but it almost is probably the biggest mistake people
make because they don't get all the way to the edges.
Speaker 2 (01:34:07):
Okay, thank you.
