Welcome to Texas Home Improvements, your total home improvement source.
I'm Jim Dutton here to help you out. Seven one
three two one two five eight seven fours the number
to call any home improvement question you have seven one
three two one two five eight seven four. Now we're
broadcasting live today from the Passing Livestock Show and Rodeo. Uh.

(01:51):
We had a great night last night, set records on
attendance and stuff. Great entertainer we had Braxton Keith. He's
a new and up and come. But tonight will be
forty nine Winchester. And if you're looking for something to do,
you cannot beat the cost of coming out to the
Passing Livestock Show and Rodeo. One ticket gets you on

(02:11):
the grounds. You can go, uh. You know through the vendors,
you can go talk with different entertainment people out here.
There's lots of food vendors out here. Of course, a
great rodeo and like I said, forty nine Winchester rodeo
starts at seven point thirty, so you got plenty of
time to come out, and if you're coming out for

(02:32):
the entertainer, they typically go on around nine point thirty
when the rodeo is finished. But again, we're here to
take calls and answer questions, so seven one three two
one two five eight seven four. Don't forget about our
website as well, thhipro dot com. It's a place where
you can go and get all kinds of helpful information,

(02:53):
links to the people you hear me talk about. There's
questions and answers and videos. I mean, it's just a
wealth of information. When you go to thchipro dot com,
and while you're there, sign up for our newsletter. It
goes out every other week, doesn't cost you anything. Plus
it's chock full of helpful information as well. And that's
also where you'll find the ask Jim button if you

(03:15):
want to shoot me an email. When you go to
thchipro dot com, it's right there on the home screen,
so take advantage of it. It's there to help you out.
But I'm here to take calls and answer questions. So
seven one three two one two five eight seven four.
Before we do start jumping into calls and Nancy, I

(03:36):
see you're on the line. I'll get to you in
just a couple of minutes. I want to talk with
some people here because, like I said, we're out at
the Passing Livestock showing rodeo and one of the things
that's out here are some security cameras and I got
Justin Owen's out here from Citadel Security Cameras and Justin,
how are you today?

Speaker 7 (03:56):
I'm doing well, Jim. I appreciate you having us out here.

Speaker 8 (03:59):
Oh my pleasure. So I have used camera systems like
years before in the past, and those things are amazing,
and I think they're really underutilized by one a lot
of contractors and stuff. But yes, you know, we're using
them out here to keep track of what's going on

(04:19):
in our perimeter fan scene and things like that. And
I think a lot of times people just don't think
of where they can utilize this type of technology.

Speaker 7 (04:27):
Yeah, So there's a bunch of different ways to go
about using the technology, right from fares and events such
as the rodeo here at Pasadena to parking lots and
construction sites really anywhere that you need any type of surveillance.
See what's going on, watching for trespassers things like that.
They really come in handy with law enforcement and the

(04:48):
owners themselves.

Speaker 8 (04:49):
Oh oh yeah, a quick story. They've you know, they're
doing some work on a convention center up front. They
have a camera system set up there and one of
our volunteers was moving some stuff and he crossed that
fence line. Yep, that contractor was on the phone with
us within just seconds, and you mind having him go

(05:10):
back where he was.

Speaker 7 (05:11):
We can't be Yep, we can do the exact same thing.

Speaker 8 (05:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (05:15):
So the and really what's driving all of that is
the new AI technology that's come a long ways in
the last year or so.

Speaker 8 (05:21):
Huh.

Speaker 7 (05:22):
A lot of these systems they're they're taking your traditional
camera system and pushing them way to the advance where
it's watching for people crossing that trip line, watching for
people intruding into an area. Our system specifically, when you intrude,
we can have a live speaker come down with a
pre recorded message you know, you are trespassing, you need
to leave the area, whatever it needs to say, as

(05:44):
well as dispatching law enforcement if needed, robocops stuff exactly
exactly when you guys set up a system. Like the
system that's here, there's multiple cameras going off of it. Yes, yeah,
we have eight, four physical cameras and eight total lenses,
so we get a three hundred and sixty degree view

(06:05):
and then four ptzs that we could set to zoom
in and track.

Speaker 8 (06:09):
Now you know you just went right up over my
head with that one. All right, So four cameras, eight lenses, yes, sir,
So yeah, let's start with that. What is that?

Speaker 7 (06:19):
So we get a three hundred and sixty degree view
all the way around the unit, okay, and then we
have smart cameras that basically zoom in and track things.

Speaker 8 (06:27):
Gotcha needed, cars, people, whatever we set it to so
if a dog's passing, it knows not to.

Speaker 7 (06:33):
Not to track the dog, but track the car or
to attract the person exactly.

Speaker 8 (06:37):
And then you started going in acronyms after that on
the technology that I just totally missed. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (06:44):
So the PTZ is a pan tilt zoom camera. Okay,
that's the camera that'll pan left to right, zoom in
and out, and then tilt up and down. So the
neat thing, especially out here at the rodeo, is I
have a camera way out in the back over by
the arena, but we can see the far gate all
all the way at the other side of the place.

Speaker 8 (07:01):
Yeah. Didn't we get a picture last night as somebody
going over the fence.

Speaker 7 (07:04):
Yes, sir, we did. We got their footage as they
jumped over that fence.

Speaker 8 (07:08):
Yep. I hope they enjoyed their trip home last night.
So when a system like this is installed, the system
we have out here is portable, correct, Yeah, but I'm
assuming you can do more of a permanent type.

Speaker 7 (07:26):
Too, if absolutely absolutely. We do both fixed and mobile
solution sets, both in a trailer or standalone format, as
well as physical infrastructure. So think commercial, will think residential,
all that good stuff where you get the same type
of technology, huh at the physical infrastructure level.

Speaker 8 (07:48):
And you know, I won't ask about pricing because I
know it all depends on what you're having to put
in and how you got to configure it and all
that kind of stuff. So there's too many variables on that.
I will say though, in looking at the price of
what we did out here, this is not as expensive
as people think.

Speaker 7 (08:05):
No, no it's not. And really a lot of it
has to come down with what are you trying to
cover yeah, right, what are you looking to do? What
we like to say is there's a different camera for
every job. If you're trying to see what's going on, right,
we have a camera for that. If you want to
read the logo on your shirt one hundred and fifty
yards away, we got one for.

Speaker 8 (08:22):
That, all right. So how often I'm going off track
here now? But how often do you get requested to
set something like this up at the deer lease?

Speaker 7 (08:33):
All the time? All the time. I actually have a
couple of guys right now. I have a system that
will send you a notification when it detects a deer, And.

Speaker 8 (08:41):
So I got a guy don't want so then they
got to roll out of bed and go hunting, or
they're just doing it sitting at home exactly right.

Speaker 7 (08:47):
That way, they know, hey, we're ready to we're ready
to roll the deers. There's let's go yep.

Speaker 8 (08:53):
I tell you, technology on all this kind of stuff
is just drastically changed over the years.

Speaker 7 (08:59):
Yes, some of the neat things is the native language search.
So your traditional camera system you're looking through, you got
twenty four hours worth of video and you're sitting there
scrubbing that video for that five seconds yeah, right, where
the person jumped the fence or whatever. With the native
language search, I can go to the to the system
and type in person jumping a fence, hit enter, and

(09:20):
it's gonna pull that video up, show you jumping them
the salls blue Chevrolet pickup truck, same thing, right, it'll
give you all of that stuff.

Speaker 8 (09:28):
Well you hear that sound check bouncing through these headphones,
can't you. I don't know if they hear that on
the air or not. But so, how do people get
in touch with Citadel Security Cameras?

Speaker 7 (09:40):
Yeah, so they can give us a call. Our our
main line is seven one three nine zero one. It's
gonna come up as retail merchant services, but that's still US. Okay,
Citadel's our main security brand line.

Speaker 8 (09:53):
And where all will you cover?

Speaker 7 (09:55):
All over the entire state of Texas?

Speaker 8 (09:58):
You're like me, if it's Texas, I'll go to it.

Speaker 7 (10:01):
Where we're We're going to uh uh northeast Dallas next
Tuesday with two more units.

Speaker 8 (10:06):
Okay, where are you going up there?

Speaker 9 (10:09):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (10:09):
Titus County. So we're we're going up there too for
another fair and event rodeo. And okay, we'll have a
couple of units out there for them to leverage. But yeah,
our our phone number or even our website which is
Texas RMS dot com and that's Texas spelled out t
e X A S r M s AS in Retail

(10:30):
Merchant Services dot com. And that's everything that we have
to offer, from cameras to alarm systems and mobile surveillance,
all sorts of cool stuff.

Speaker 8 (10:40):
Very good. And again the phone.

Speaker 7 (10:41):
Number seven one three nine nine zero one.

Speaker 8 (10:45):
All right, well, justin, I appreciate you taking time to
come in and talk with us today.

Speaker 7 (10:50):
Absolutely.

Speaker 8 (10:52):
I love this kind of technology because one, I hate
a thief, yes, two, And and this goes for all
the little punks that want to try to come out
and jump fences and stuff like that. Go earn your money,
come in like everybody else. You'll you'll be much happier
when you're done.

Speaker 7 (11:07):
We're watching we got you on film.

Speaker 8 (11:09):
Yep, as they say, we're gonna make your famous one
way or another. Right, you got it, all right, justin,
I appreciate it. You have a great afternoon, yes, sir,
thank you, mister Jim yep. Bye bay okay, if you
got a home proven question seven one three two one
two five eight seven four again it's seven one three

(11:32):
ready to take a quick break. When we come back,
Nancy you'll be first, Paul you'll be right after that.
And uh, you know again, I'm out at the Passing

got some garage doors. I put it on about two
years ago. It works great. The ready Seal looks just
as good as it did today.

Speaker 7 (13:42):
I put it on.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
Ready Seal. You know, spray it on, roll it on,
brush it on.

Speaker 8 (13:46):
You don't have to worry about laps or streaks, runs,
any of that stuff because of the way it soaks
deep down into the wood fibers.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
It takes care of all of it.

Speaker 8 (13:54):
And it's available everywhere. But to find a store nearest
to you, go to Readyseeal dot com. Ah do West
air Conditioning no air conditioning season is it's getting near
the end. Let's face the temperatures have come down a
little bit. I know it's still hot and humid out there,
but it's getting near time to do your winter checkup.

(14:14):
Whether your air conditioning system is acting up, you want
your winter checkup, or you know you need a new system.
You want the best you want Due West seven one
three four seven three seven one five six.

Speaker 1 (14:28):

of roofers out there, but there's only one company that
has the gem Dutton staff of approval for over fourteen years,
and that's Guardian roof Systems. Whether you need a whole
new root or just a repair. And if a storm
blows to the Houston area, don't you dare let one

(14:49):
at two eight one four oh seven seventy two eighty.
I go to thhipro dot com and click the link
to Guardian roof Systems.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
Guardian roof Systems.

Speaker 8 (14:59):
US Insulation did my house about a year ago. I
had it done, and oh what a difference it made
through the winter months and through the summer months. You know,
I knew it would make the house a whole lot
more comfortable in the winter because that wouldn't didn't feel
the cold drafts coming through the walls anymore because their
phone seals all the gaps ads are value. In fact,

(15:22):
I had R eleven, I'm sorry, R thirteen in my
walls and now I got like R twenty six. But
the surprising part was how big a difference it made
on my energy bills at the end of the year.
Four zero nine three one six ninety nine fifty seven
for USA Insulation.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
Real men don't google how to do home improvements. They
listened to Jim Dutton on Texas Home Improvement. That goes
for you real women too. Here's more with Jim on
Texas Home Improvement.

Speaker 8 (15:58):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvement Broadcasting live from
the pasadene A Livestock Showing Rodeo seven one three, two,
one two, five eight seven four. Let's head out to
Beaumont and Nancy, this is Jim. How can I help you?

Speaker 7 (16:14):
Hi?

Speaker 5 (16:14):
Thank you for taking my call. I have a two
part question, but it's not long. What is your opinion
of mud jackings, driveways and patios?

Speaker 8 (16:24):
You know, if if you want a mud jack a driveway,
a patio, anything like that, I got zero problem. I've
got the equipment. I do mud jacking, I do euthane
foam injection. Both of those do the same thing. They
just basically inject something between the concrete and the soil
to pick it back up. It's still subject to move

(16:47):
because it's still sitting on the active soil.

Speaker 9 (16:50):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (16:50):
And I got no problem doing outside stuff like that.
I just won't do it on a living space of
a house because when it still has the movement going,
you're still breaking sheet rock and stuff. But those patios,
driveway sidewalks, it's perfect, okay.

Speaker 5 (17:07):
So between the two, mud jacking or the polyurethane, which
one do you recommend more.

Speaker 8 (17:14):
Or do there? Typically you got better control with the
eurothane than you do with the mud jacking. Mud Jacking
is filling the void, and you know, if you got
a large void or something, but for detailed control to
get like joints at the same heights and stuff like that,
the euthane usually does better well.

Speaker 5 (17:33):
And also read that the eu thane you can walk
on it, drive on it much quicker. Oh yeah, yeah,
so I never even heard of the polyuythane. I was
mostly thinking at them and as neat or two. It's
not as messy.

Speaker 12 (17:46):
They said.

Speaker 8 (17:46):
That is correct because with the mud jacking, you're basically
drilling a inch and a half to two inch hole
in the concrete, putting a pipe in there, and you
pressure it up with a what's called a mud pump.

Speaker 13 (17:59):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (18:00):
And what you're pumping in there is a a cement
top soil slurry, and so it takes that a few
days to dry and set up. Where the urethane, you're
drilling a five eighth inch hole, so it's much smaller.

Speaker 14 (18:16):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (18:16):
You inject the phone through that hole. As it spreads
out and expands, it lifts the concrete up and it's
literally dried in seconds.

Speaker 5 (18:26):
Okay. I like the sound of that. Yeah, okay, thank
you so much.

Speaker 14 (18:32):
For your help.

Speaker 8 (18:33):
You're welcome. You have a great afternoon, you too, Bye bye,
and again, if if you need that kind of work
at your house, do west definitely does that kind of work.
Seven one three, two one two five eight seven four
Paul N. Kingwood, how can I help you?

Speaker 9 (18:53):
Hey, Jim, thanks for the taking my call. Just trying
to get an idea of what kind of shingle I'm
looking at possibly reroofing my house, Okay, And I didn't know.
I've heard some different different companies talk about different shingles,
and it gets to be kind of, you know, certain

(19:15):
the price goes up, but different, and they say this
is a thirty year, a fifty year, and then it's
how long is everly gonna last?

Speaker 7 (19:23):
Right?

Speaker 8 (19:23):
Yeah, Typically, what you can look at is if you
get a thirty year shingle, you're going to get fifteen
to twenty years out of it in our climate. Now,
in other climates you'll get that thirty years, but not
here in Texas that the sun is just too brutal
on them. If you put a fifty year shingle on,
you're typically going to get something in the twenty twenty

(19:48):
five year range. It doesn't dramatically go up with that
longer shingle. The bigger thing I would tell you to
take a look at, though, is to be what's called
a fortified roof because we do have the hurricanes come in.
And what a fortified roof is, it's put on stronger

(20:10):
and it begins with the plywood. First. They use a
celant tape on all the joints on the plywood and
that's for if the whole roof gets ripped off rain
water comes down. It h's plywood. It's not going through
those joints and getting in the home, ruining sheet rock

(20:31):
and possessions. The felt paper that goes down, and typically
we're using synthetic nowadays, is over nailed compared to regular.
Then when the shingles go on, instead of having just
like four nails or five, it's got like six or eight,
depending on the type of shingles you go with, And
so it's all just over done to make it a

(20:53):
much stronger roof, harder to blow off, and in our climate,
that's something I would definitely look at. Plus A gets
you uh reductions in your insurance costs.

Speaker 15 (21:04):
M okay, and you can use that whether you go
with like a an architectural shingle from Owens Corning or
any of the other shingle manufacturers.

Speaker 8 (21:16):
It really doesn't matter.

Speaker 9 (21:19):
What are the what are the preferred shingle manufacturers, and
there's some there's different own corn Owens Corning. Uh, there
were some other companies kind of O Lamb or something.

Speaker 8 (21:32):
Yeah, there's there's a whole bunch of them out there,
and you know, quite frankly, there's none that are really bad.
The biggest thing you're going to find is like the
build three tab shingles are almost completely gone nowadays. They
just don't find those to hold up well enough. And
so pretty much everything's gone to the architectural or or better. Okay,

(21:58):
and I hate to do it to your Paul with
that music. That means it's time to take a break
for news, traffic and weather. Here on seven forty KTRH.
Let's talk real quick about American Standard. You know, if
you're looking for an air conditioning system for your home,
take a look at American Standard. These systems, I mean,
they're nationally recognized for excellence for performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction.

(22:22):
So American standard heating and air conditioning systems can take
care of your family all year long. And American standard
technology meets the ever changing Texas weather. Hang well, head on,
I mean, keep your home cool and humidity free or
be ready for a little heat when you need it.
And let's face it, humidity control here is just huge.

(22:43):
And the variable speed systems, the dual speed, all those
they'd give you ultimate humidity control. So invest wisely and
invest in the home comfort system that's going to last
you a long, long time comfort the way you like it.
That's American Standard Air dot Com and.

Speaker 16 (23:01):
The Wilineskinnas Longer and the Saturdskin. I'm much to you.
Feed this stammo o my cards rong table in no
way slam and now I'm much to him.

Speaker 8 (23:21):
Feed this dammo. Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvements.
Your total home Improvement sore seven one three two one
two five eight seven four. Again it's seven one three
two one two five eight seven four. Any home improvement

(23:42):
question you got, just feel free to pick up the phone,
give me a call and I'll see what I can
do to help you out here on Texas Home Improvement.
And again we are broadcasting live from the Passing Livestock
Showing Rodeo. Uh great show last night. I want to
encourage everybody to come out tonight for forty nine win.
The rodeo itself starts at seven thirty, gates open at five.

(24:05):
A lot of stuff to do out here. There's a carnival.
The ag kids have brought their animals in today, so
bring the kids out, have some fun. Don't worry about
eating before you come, because there's all kinds of food,
vendors and stuff out here. We've got a full haul
of vendors to go shopping in. It's just a place
where you can come out for a great time out

(24:26):
at the passing a livestock show on Rodeo. Go to
Pasadena rodeo dot com for more information. And we do
have a matinee show tomorrow if you don't like going
out at night. Rodeo starts at two point thirty on
Sunday and the gates will open at noon that day.
But I got some guests in here. I'm still going

(24:47):
to take calls and answer questions. So seven one three,
two one two five eight seven four. But walking around
out here, and uh, I saw tractor supply out here,
and you know this is a tractor Supply is one
of those places I go in buy stuff because they
carry a whole lot of different items that you can use.

(25:11):
And I was curious, so I started talking with them
out here and I've got Mason Licito. That's it out
here and welcome to Texas Home Improvement.

Speaker 14 (25:21):
Thank you.

Speaker 8 (25:22):
So you guys started telling me about you've got a
direct sales now at Tractors Supply. What is that and
is that something you've been doing or because I've never
seen you out before.

Speaker 14 (25:36):
Direct sales is fairly new to the Houston areio. It's
tractor supplies bulk sales initiative. It's focused on selling larger
quantities to farms, kennels, equin facilities, event venues and other
organizations such as FFA groups.

Speaker 8 (25:51):
Okay, at which we got going on out here right now.
And you know, I guess the big advantages they don't
have to run out to buy stuff that way.

Speaker 14 (26:00):
It is the biggest benefit of the customers are seeing
is the convenience of working with a dedicated sales rep
so we can quote prices, source products, create orders, complete
the transactions remotely, as well as scheduled delivery and in
store pickup if needed. This eliminates trips to the store
and possible availability issues.

Speaker 8 (26:17):
So when you guys are out at an event like this,
are you actually having product here or do they come
tell you what they need and you bring it in
from a location or.

Speaker 14 (26:27):
We're bringing it in currently, we're taking suggestions for the
people that we're dealing with. It's the first time, so
any suggestions they have or we're taking note for the
next time.

Speaker 8 (26:35):
Gotcha. So for other organizations, there's others rodeos, other faares,
other things like that. Where can they get more information
on this? Because you guys carry so much stuff. I mean,
this is something that's good for everybody. We do.

Speaker 14 (26:52):
We have a lot of things. You can visit tractor
supply dot com or you can search tractors supply direct
sells to find out some more information.

Speaker 17 (27:00):
Kay.

Speaker 8 (27:01):
And when you're when you're saying, we got you sitting
out in the sun out here, I'm not warm and
here you are wearing a dark colored shirt. Does not
adding to the And we won't even talk about the
fuzz on your face. It's acting for you. But uh,
you know what's the what's the limits to what you

(27:25):
will do out at these events?

Speaker 14 (27:27):
None? Essentially if we can do it, uh aside from
illegal action, if we can do it, we'll make it happen.

Speaker 8 (27:35):
Yeah, I got a bumper on the show and it
was pulled from something that came on years ago, but
it was such a hilarious call. Uh. Guy calls in
and he wants to know how to build a room
within his house that he could grow plants that nobody
outside would know about. And I asked him, I said,

(27:58):
what are you gonna be growing in this thing illegally? Oh? No,
I'm gonna be growing strawberry.

Speaker 18 (28:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (28:03):
So when you just said that, that just instantly comes
back into my mind. But look, is this something you
guys are going to be expanding on. You have it
in other markets because I'm broadcast like right now, we're
broadcasting in Austin as well as here in the Houston area.

Speaker 14 (28:22):
It is going to grow. Currently we're in Houston, Texas,
Call of Florida, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Fresno, California, with
plans to expand coast to coast in the future. I
believe it's a five year plan.

Speaker 8 (28:32):
Okay, you guys aren't planning on going anywhere then?

Speaker 14 (28:35):
Oh no, weirds.

Speaker 8 (28:37):
Yeah. You know the great thing about tractor supplies you
can you guys have locations, like you just read, all
all over the place, and really this direct sale thing
is kind of taking it to the next level.

Speaker 14 (28:52):
Absolutely.

Speaker 8 (28:53):
Now, people have for years been putting brick and mortar
out with going online, and I kind of like seeing
you guys cutting edge going back out to deal with
the public and you're not having to set up brick
and mortar to do it, and that's pretty cool.

Speaker 14 (29:10):
No, Yeah, it's great get get in front of the people,
being able to serve people in the fields. It's it's awesome.

Speaker 8 (29:16):
So are have our kids out here been take up
and taken advantage of your service?

Speaker 14 (29:21):
They've checked us out, They've purchased some things, inquired about more.
So it's it's been a good opportunity.

Speaker 8 (29:26):
Very good. So if somebody needs to get in touch
with you guys and wants to talk about maybe having
you out to some of their events and things like that,
where can they go?

Speaker 14 (29:35):
So you can go to tractionplot dot com or you
can reach out to me directly at seven one three
nine three one eight, nine five eight. You can also
reach Shannon if you need to ask about reps in
other areas at seven one three, three one eight nine
six two. Following this event will also be at the
Waller Fair. So if you're out there.

Speaker 8 (29:55):
I have talked with those folks there's nice people out there.

Speaker 14 (29:59):
Yeah, we'll be in.

Speaker 8 (29:59):
There, but they got everybody's got to come here first.
Then they can go out to that one that's next.

Speaker 14 (30:04):
That's where we're starting.

Speaker 8 (30:06):
All right. Hey, I appreciate you guys taking time to
come in and enjoy our air condition before you got
to go back out and the heat.

Speaker 14 (30:11):
Yes, sir, thank you.

Speaker 8 (30:13):
You take take care and uh Mason, I wish you
guys all the luck on this because this is one
of those things, like like I said, I think I'm
involved here at the passing on livestock showing rodeo because
it does great for the kids and this is just
another service it's really gonna I think play out to
help those.

Speaker 14 (30:29):
Kids definitely saves everybody some money, makes it makes a
lot easier.

Speaker 8 (30:32):
I think it does, and saves them a lot of
time as well, because when they're showing these animals, they're
their time is money. Definitely, So thank you, sir. I
appreciate it. With that. If you got to home, proven question,
pick up the phone, give me a call. Seven one

lumber at your home, whether it's a deck, a fence,
or a gazebo. Hey, maybe you got an agbarn that
is made of wood and you got to protect it.
Take a look at some ready seal. This product is amazing.
It's oil based. It soaks deep down into the wood fibers,

(31:25):
protecting the wood from taking on water, and really that's
what ruins wood. But more so than that, it has
tint in it where you can go with a clear
where it just brings out the wood grain to look gorgeous,
or you can go all the way to a dark
walnut if you want to really darken up that wood
for some reason. But Ready Seal is available everywhere. It's

(31:47):
the simplest, do it yourself project. You don't have to
worry about runs, laps, streaks, none of that kind of
stuff because as you put it on, it soaks in,
spreads out, and all that just disappears. You're looking for
something to protect what around your home, you need to
take a look at Ready Seal.

(33:33):

the water. I get through my reverse Osmosis call Southern
Water Solutions eight three two five nine three thirty nine

you go up.

Speaker 6 (35:04):
Here's Jim Dutton on Texas Home Improvement.

Speaker 8 (35:09):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvement, your total home
improvement source, broadcasting live from the Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Seven one three two one two five eight seven four.
That's seven one three two one two five eight seven four.
We're gonna head straight back into our calls going out

(35:31):
to Brazoria. Mike, this is Jim. How can I help you?

Speaker 18 (35:36):
Yes, I'm having a house built on a four foot
above the ground on pilings.

Speaker 8 (35:41):
Okay.

Speaker 18 (35:42):
Builder wants to put a phone insulation under that floor
and said Morsher resistant grade. God even need an insulation
under that floor. I'm just concerned about mors for getting
caught up under the floor, and.

Speaker 8 (35:54):
You should be concerned about that. You know, we built
houses for work hundreds of years elevated that way with
no insulation. Now, what the insulation does is it keeps
your toes a little bit warmer when it's cold out
and things like that. But it's to me, it's not

(36:16):
worth the risk factor. Now some of the building codes
have started requiring it, and if they're gonna put something,
the only thing that I recommend would be a closed
cell PHOAM insulation closed sale, yep. Because the closed cell
does not take on moisture. Open cell can. But here's

(36:39):
the issue that a lot of builders and homeowners been
running into. When you put that phone underneath there, there
is the AC system, and then you put well, let
me back up. You put that underneath there, it seals
it to where you're not getting any air infiltration through there.
Then you put down a wood floor on top of

(37:02):
the sub floor, or you put down a lambanan or
you know these engineered wood floors things like that, there
is no way for the AC system to keep that
underneath that floor dehumidified. And that's where we start getting
where floors are buckling and doing things that people don't understand.

(37:24):
And it's it's just because we're sealing everything off too
darn tight.

Speaker 18 (37:30):
Yes, sir, well, I believe that answers my question. I'm
gonna try to go without the insulation period. I don't
mind a cold fur anyway.

Speaker 8 (37:39):
Yeah, that's what fuzzy slippers are for. Right, I thank you,
bet take care okay. And you know this is becoming
a bigger and bigger problem because, like I said, some
of the building codes are requiring it. But when we're
sealing up our home sat tight, that's where we start
getting sick homes. You become totally dependent on the HVAC

(38:04):
system on cycling air and stuff, and they've had to
make it where the systems are bringing in fresh air
from outside. And granted, the air conditioning systems have become
much much better at controlling all this, but you're still
dependent on a mechanical thing where if we didn't seal
them up as tight as we are doing, a house

(38:25):
can still breathe and take care of this stuff on
its own. Now, does it make it a little more
energy efficient? Absolutely? Akin, But is that little bit of
energy efficiency worth the risk factor for me? It has
not been. I will tell you. On my personal house,

(38:48):
I did have foam insulation put in the walls, but
I left my attic with regular insulation, so it's breatheable still.
Now I'm on a concrete slab, so I didn't do
anything obviously under the home. But yeah, you you definitely
have options, all right, if you got a home proven
question seven one three two one two five eight seven four.

(39:11):
That's seven one three, two, one two, five eight seven four.
Any home improvement question you have. Feel free to pick
up the phone, give me a call, and I'll see
what I can do to help you out here on
Texas Home Improvement. I had an email question from Nikosh

(39:32):
out of sugar Land. I have a wooden deck installed
by the previous owner in my backyard, removed uh into
the house a year ago. It is painted with a
standard deck paint. The paint chips are coming off, and
wood appears to be decayne or getting soft at several places.
I can also see a lot of black colored wood

(39:54):
throughout the deck. I am avoiding, or wanting to avoid,
having expensive deck replacement. What do you recommend to protect
the wooden deck? Well, the unfortunate thing is they probably
put that paint and stuff over what was already a
bad deck, and so it sealed it in and it's
just like a cavity in your tooth. Once that wood

(40:16):
starts decaying that way, it'll continue to spread and decay
even worse. So you're gonna have to scrape up what
you can off that coating get the bad wood out,
replace it, gouge it out, whatever you gotta do, and
then you can put a even ready seal on it

(40:38):
if you take the old coating off. But the critical
part is to get everything off and get the rotten
wood out. Now, if there's so much rotten wood that
it's making the boards weak and stuff, well that comes
down to you got to replace the boards. And that's
really what it's gonna come down to you. So you

(41:01):
may buy yourself some time, but in the long run
you're probably gonna end up replacing the deck boards. Hopefully
the Joyston stuff underneath are still okay. Got a question
seven one three, two, one two, five, eight, seven four.
Let's talk about the best siding on the planet, and

(41:22):
that's James Hardy siding. I mean, this stuff is cement based,
it is durable. That's reason that comes with such lengthy
warranties on it up to fifty years and you've got
so many choices stuck go lap siding, wood shake. I
love the wood shake, by the way, I don't know,
it just accents. Everything's so nice. But facial boards, soffit boards,

(41:47):
you know, everything can be done out of James Hardy
siding plus. You got the color plus with the paint
baked on at the factory. If that's what you're looking
for now. Once the product is on and you paint it,
it holds paint better than wood ever thought about. So
if you're looking for a siding that you can put
on and not have to worry about it rotting and

(42:09):
decaying and stuff, James Hardy Siding is it. Go to
thchipro dot com. Click on the link for James Hardy
Siding and scroll through and just imagine how gorgeous your
home could be.

Speaker 10 (42:22):

Speaker 7 (42:34):
I put it on.

Speaker 2 (42:35):
Ready Seal. You spray it on, roll it on, brush
it on.

Speaker 8 (42:37):
You don't have to worry about laps or streaks, runs,
any of that stuff because of the way it soaks
deep down into the wood fibers. It takes care of
all of it. And it's available everywhere. But to find
a store nearest to you, go to Readyseal dot com.

Speaker 8 (44:47):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvement seven one three,
two one two five eight seven four Roy and Humble.
What can I do for you?

Speaker 13 (44:59):
He Oh, I've had a lot of trouble lately. I've
been getting a lot of dust in my house. But
the beginning, I mean, we normally get a lot of
dust in our house, but now it's like it's on
another level. But I had a brand new AC system
put downstairs. It's one of the rude variable speed but

(45:22):
I'm getting I have more return ducts through my house.
But I've had improvement stuff going on earlier in the
all that was done, remodeled the master bathroom and then
recently built out the master closet when we added twenty
foot off to the closet. But I'm just getting a

(45:42):
lot of lot tons of dust.

Speaker 8 (45:45):
And well, obviously during construction you're going to have a
lot of dust. But how old is the home?

Speaker 13 (45:50):
Yeah, the ninety seven, but it has a bone a
lot of bone in insulation in the home. But there
is some bats in there too. But we've always got
a lot of dust.

Speaker 8 (46:05):
But now the blown in is it cellulars or is
it the.

Speaker 13 (46:09):
Uh, it is white? I know that.

Speaker 8 (46:13):
Okay, a lot of those insulations that are not fiberglass,
as they age start turning to dust. And usually you're
looking at about thirty years. And since you just had
a new AC system, they had to puncture through the
ceiling probably in some areas, and that dust will sift in.

(46:33):
I'm gonna put you on hold. I got to take
a quick break and I will come back to you

Speaker 8 (49:03):
Hey. Welcome back to Texas Home Improvement. Your Total Home

seven four Again, any home improvement question you have feel
free to pick up the phone, give me a call
and I'll see what I can do to help you
out here on Texas Homeprovement. Don't forget about our website,

(49:25):
t hipro dot com. There's all kinds of helpful information there,
links to the people you hear me talk about. There's
questions and answers, and you know, it's just a wealth
of information when you go to tchipro dot com. Now
again our number seven one three two one two five

(49:48):
eight seven four. We are broadcasting live today from the
Passadene Livestock Show on Rodeo. And uh when we went
to break, I was talking with Roy up and Humble and.

Speaker 3 (49:59):
Roy still there, Yes, sir, I'm here, okay, And I
thought I should kind of clear a little bit up.
That are the construction I did on the remodel in
the bathroom was earlier in the year.

Speaker 13 (50:12):
We've probably finished that a few months ago. But here
recently we've been doing the closet and it's just with
minimal stuff being cut or anything there, and but it's
just throughout the entire house to dust. It's just just
everywhere and it's just I don't know, you can if

(50:33):
those sunlight shines through just right, you just see it
in the air. But it's been like that for a
long time. It's just worse that, you know, it seems
like it worse in the insulation. I noticed in my
attic when I was going through checking all my ducking
to make sure everything is all sealed up or at
least like there's nothing loose or anything. Maybe by mistake,
I noticed a lot of my insulation of that blown

(50:54):
in white insulation that it was down used to. You
can see my rafters now, you can see my rafters
in some areas. It looks like it's barely anything there.

Speaker 8 (51:05):
Yep, Because it's it settles over time. And if it's
not the fiberglass, you know, if it's cellulose, which it
almost sounds like yours might be a uh either cellulose
or the wool uh that deteriorates and starts turning to dust.
And it sounds like that's what's happening, and bad dust

(51:28):
will set will start sifting into the house. And if
that is the case, typically the best answer is they
go up and they literally vacuum it all out of there.

Speaker 13 (51:41):
Yeah, And that's what I've been thinking about. I just
don't know who to call.

Speaker 8 (51:44):
The most insulation companies can vacuum it out.

Speaker 21 (51:50):
Okay.

Speaker 13 (51:53):
Well, yeah, then my and my daughter has bad allergies,
and my wife started having bad allergies last year. I'm
afraid that that could have maybe caused it. I don't know,
but well, I think that uh kind of answers answers
my question. I've I've thought about. I heard you talking about,

(52:16):
you know, doing the the insulation in the walls, and
I've been I've been curious about about doing that or
or even the you know in my attic that that reflective.
You know, well, I don't know if the I forget
your radiant barrier.

Speaker 8 (52:35):
Yes, I don't use the spray though, use the foil type.

Speaker 13 (52:39):
Okay.

Speaker 8 (52:40):
Uh therefore, yeah, the issue that you've got though with
with the dust, you're probably gonna want to get that
insulation vacuumed out first. But in my own house that
I have the foil type barrier, I've had it in
there for over twenty years now. Love it. The best
thing I ever did to my house. It's cheap and

(53:00):
it helps reduce your energy bills forever.

Speaker 13 (53:05):
Yes, I noticed addicts that I work in other people's
addicts if they have if they have that in there,
managed it a huge difference in the attic. When I
go in there, it's it's uh.

Speaker 8 (53:16):
I mean, what do you do that you're going in addicts?

Speaker 13 (53:21):
I'm a plumber. I do mostly commercial, but I do
residential too, Okay, and I've been doing it now. I
think I'm going on thirty three years. But uh yeah,
I enjoyed it. Never thought I was gonna be a plumber.

Speaker 8 (53:37):
Getting a little late to change now, isn't it.

Speaker 21 (53:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (53:41):
Yeah, But like I like what I do. I work
different places all the time. It's always something different. I'm
not going into into an office doing the same thing
every day, seeing the same walls or driving me crazy.

Speaker 17 (53:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (53:53):
Well, Roy, if you'll call my office and talks to
uh Wade, okay Wade, Yeah, he can give you an
in a uh insulation company that can come out and
take all that stuff out and put your new insulation in.

Speaker 13 (54:15):
That'd be that'd be great. I'll uh, I'll do that.
What's the what's that number of it.

Speaker 8 (54:19):
For due West? And the number is seven to one
three four seven three seven one five six.

Speaker 13 (54:29):
Okay, Well, thank you very much. Yeah, I'll listen. I'll
listen all the time. I'm always working, so I hop
in the van and in between jobs, i'll turn it
on and i'll catch I'll catch you every now and then.
I'm usually listening on seven forty.

Speaker 8 (54:45):
Well, I appreciate it.

Speaker 13 (54:46):
Well, hey, thanks, thank.

Speaker 8 (54:48):
You very much, my pleasure. You have a good day,
you too are and let's head to uh port O'Connor. Hello, rightly, Hello,
I'm gonna help you.

Speaker 12 (55:05):
I have a we have a beach house in Port
O'Connor and we're wanting to insulate underneath it. It's up
on stilts and I've heard I was listening earlier and
you said use open cell.

Speaker 8 (55:18):
And close cell, closed cell only.

Speaker 12 (55:22):
Closed cell only. Fuck because it's on silks.

Speaker 8 (55:25):
Yep.

Speaker 12 (55:26):
Well, what were you saying about it? The U the open.

Speaker 8 (55:33):
Yeah, what I what I was saying is, well two
things that were where you heard me say open cell.
I don't like that because it will hold moisture like
a sponge on the wood and causes it to rot.
But okay, the reason I typically tell people leave that
floor uninsulated. When you put insulation on there and seal it.

(55:56):
Your engineered floors, your wood floors, things like that, protect
and your laminate, protect the board between your flooring and
that insulation from the ac being able to dehumidify it,

(56:19):
and some of those boards will then start taking on
moisture and expand and that's where you start getting boards
there popping up and stuff like that. So my question
to you would be, why do you want to insulate
under there?

Speaker 12 (56:32):
The floors are really hot when you walk on them. Okay,
it's a really old house that that we bought. Somebody
flipped it in. Uh So I was just thinking it
wasn't really energy efficient.

Speaker 8 (56:48):
Yeah. I mean again, if you're gonna if you want
to put insulation, just use the spray phoam closed cell
and you don't need a lot. An inch or two
is really all you need. Now. Another option you can
look at would be a radiant barrier, But in the

(57:11):
situation that you're in, the spray foam would probably be
the best way to go.

Speaker 12 (57:17):
Okay, And do you know anybody that works in the
Port O'Connor area?

Speaker 8 (57:25):
Only fishermen.

Speaker 12 (57:29):
Worked too hard.

Speaker 8 (57:32):
It's a tough living going out as a fishing guide,
isn't it.

Speaker 12 (57:37):
I've got a good friend that's fishing guy down there.
We like to go down and visit because he takes
us pre fishing when he's got a trip.

Speaker 8 (57:46):
Yep. No, I actually don't don't know anybody down in
that area as far as for that type of work.
I'm trying to think it of. Yeah, Garland insulation because

(58:08):
they go all over the country.

Speaker 12 (58:10):
Okay, all right, well thank you. So it's really not necessary.

Speaker 17 (58:17):
I thought we needed.

Speaker 12 (58:18):
It because the floors were hot. Okay, thank you for
the information.

Speaker 8 (58:22):
You bet take care, bye bye and again our number
seven one three, two one two five eight seven four.
Let's see here and this is Jim. How can I
help you?

Speaker 17 (58:40):
Hi, mister Dugdan, thank you for taking my call. I
just had a quick thank you. I had a quick question.
Our house was taken out by Beryl and we've got
it back together, and I was blessed enough to be
able to finagle a screen, dare and porch or my

(59:00):
open deck was and we are my driver vented to
the outside of the house, so they they've got the
dryer vent going across under the decking and I've got
a treck boring deck. But I I don't I think
this is why I don't know. I wanted a smooth
pipe vent pipe and but it's that prinkle stuff, you know.

(59:27):
The stuff that you do from your dryer to the
vent hole, you know what I mean. And I wanted
to change it out because I'm concerned about lint build
up and trying to clean it because it goes all
the way across the bottom of the deck out, you know. Okay,
So I just wanted to know what you suggested.

Speaker 8 (59:48):
Well, you can actually go even into Lowe's and Home
depot and buy those sections of pipe to put in
that are rigid that way, made of metal and U
they work very well. They're easy to hook together. So yeah,
you can do it that way, and you are correct.
The smooth wall like that is less susceptible to build up.

(01:00:15):
But even with the smooth wall, it should be cleaned
like every year or so.

Speaker 17 (01:00:22):
Oh okay, and do they have like I heard there's
some kind of thing you can put on the end
of a drill, yep that'll go up in there and
spin around and.

Speaker 8 (01:00:34):
Yeah, basically you hook a shop back on one end
and you take this suck out whatever you're Oh, yeah,
it sucks it out as you're loosening it up. And
you can do it on a drill or just do
it by hand. I mean it literally just goes into
the pipe, you pull it through and it breaks off

(01:00:54):
the stuff and gets it sucked out into the shop back.

Speaker 17 (01:00:59):
Wow, that's so simple and so brilliant.

Speaker 22 (01:01:02):
That's awesome.

Speaker 17 (01:01:03):
Okay. So and where it comes, like where it hooks
from the dryer to the wall, is the crinkle stuff
is there? The smooth vampipe, I can get like a
ninety because I'm gonna need just a short ninety to
go down and then another one to go under the
like where it turns to go under the deck, you

(01:01:24):
know what I mean. Like it comes out of the
house above the level of the flooring like it did
normally because the deck is lower. And so that's all
possible stuff it is.

Speaker 8 (01:01:37):
Uh, the as far as finding the elbows and stuff
like that, it's a little bit difficult sometimes on some
of that pipe to locate. And so that's where a
lot of times they'll put the.

Speaker 17 (01:01:49):
Flex Okay, where does the angle so that would be okay, yeah,
but it's there now like that. But I could for
the long run under the deck, I could do this
smith just correct connect it under there because I can
get under there and do it. I don't have a
problem with that.

Speaker 2 (01:02:05):
And for that long run.

Speaker 8 (01:02:06):
The smooth will hang better anyways when you when you
use the flex stuff, it'll start sagging in between and
choke itself off eventually.

Speaker 17 (01:02:15):
Okay, awesome, that makes me feel so much better. Well, Jade,
I really appreciate it. Thank you very much.

Speaker 8 (01:02:22):
You're very welcome. You take care, yes, sir, bye again
our number seven one three, two one two five eight
seven four. Again, let's talk about USA insulation. I had
my house done about a year ago, and I had
the foam put into my walls retrofitted. Now you hear

(01:02:44):
me say all the time, I don't want the whole
house encapsulated with foam. Put it in the walls because
inch for inch you cannot beat foam insulation. So you
put it in the walls, and up in the attic
you put breatheable insulation like fiberglass. The USA installation. When
they came out and did my walls, I had R

(01:03:06):
eleven in the walls. And when they finished, because it
encapsulated that R eleven sealed the air gaps and all that.
It took my walls all the way up to like
R twenty six, and my electric bills came down this summer.
It was great I highly recommend you talk to the

head back into our calls at seven one three, two
one two five eight seven four mark. This is Jim.
How can I help you? Hey?

Speaker 4 (01:07:21):
Afternoon, Jim, I have a refrigerator and a and a
freezer in my garage and I noticed yesterday the fred
there's a warning light that's tarred going off, and the
freezer looks like the doors losing a seal. I've had
a couple of times where I've opened the freezer and

(01:07:42):
it's it looks like a just like a glacier in there. Yes,
forman I've had. I had trouble getting the door open
one the other day, and then I got a screwdriver
just shaved off the ice so I could stealing back up.
But is there anything I can do? This freezer probably
maybe thirty years old. It's my mother laws freezer pay

(01:08:03):
from Denver. We just keep in the garage or store
stuff in it. But I don't know a big thing
I can do to extend the life and try to
get that seal back.

Speaker 8 (01:08:12):
Well. I mean, obviously you could have a new seal
put on if they still make the one that fits
that door, but you know, chances of that happening are
probably pretty slim at this point. So you can get
some weather stripping and put on the refrigerator itself so

(01:08:35):
that when the door closes, you've got the weather stripping
that it's closing against, and that will help because when
you see that glacier, that just means that nothing sealed
all the way and so air is getting the moisture
from in the garage. And yeah, it looks like it
looks like a big glacier in there.

Speaker 4 (01:08:56):
Okay, yeah, I'll try that. I'll I'll get some weather
stripped if I can apply it that and get that
seal back. So I appreciate, Jim, thank you.

Speaker 8 (01:09:05):
Yeah, the weather stripping typically doesn't stick to that seal
very well. You got to put it on the freezer itself.

Speaker 4 (01:09:12):
Okay, I got you.

Speaker 8 (01:09:13):
Okay, okay, take care.

Speaker 4 (01:09:15):
Sounds like a plan, sir, Thank you.

Speaker 8 (01:09:17):

Here's more with Jim Dutton on your total home improvement.

Speaker 8 (01:11:01):
Hey, welcome back seven one three two one two five
eight seven four And the home improvement question you got,
let's talk about it here on Texas Own Improvement. We're
gonna head out to College station Andy. Welcome to Texas
Home Improvement.

Speaker 23 (01:11:16):
Hi, Jan, Hey, I got a broken window, broken glass,
look like I don't know them oil a rock or
maybe I don't know this is broken? Can they glass?
Be replaced. I know that guysn't kind of gas in
embarrass Uh. Oh I have to replace the whole window.

Speaker 8 (01:11:38):
No, they can replace, just what's It's called a glass pack. Uh.
And basically the glass company will come out, They'll measure
the size of it. They go back and build a
new glass pack and put the argonne gas and everything
back in it and can install it.

Speaker 23 (01:11:55):
Oh okay, okay, but good cause I don't know if
I was gonna have to replace the whole window. But no, no, okay, Uh.

Speaker 8 (01:12:04):
That for one more sure? Uh.

Speaker 23 (01:12:08):
I got a leak on my roof. Uh got a
stemming sin and I believe my rooster is are gonna
be fourth twelve. It's uh and at the end uh
covered I tell you this, maybe it came by fifteen
or so. So I went with the same type of
uh metal, of course, I just got a h the

(01:12:32):
reepage or the the part is pretty flat and right
there with their meat with the meet is. I'm getting
a leak that it's water. Uh. Uh pretty sure I
can fix it, but my fam is finding it. I
don't know what it's coming through. Well, have any.

Speaker 8 (01:12:55):
Ideas find finding? Finding them is the hard heart. I mean,
the first thing to look at is all calking and everything, uh,
because that's usually where it's at. But beyond that then
you get into soaking through building materials.

Speaker 9 (01:13:16):
Uh.

Speaker 23 (01:13:17):
They put a piece of flashing uh, like at the
end of the house roof, right, I don't know, maybe
t white, you know, on top of the the new roof.

Speaker 8 (01:13:30):
Uh huh.

Speaker 23 (01:13:31):
And and they are they cock pretty good? I thought,
But I still didn't water in there somewhere.

Speaker 8 (01:13:38):
Yeah, and it and it can look like they cocked
it good, but it doesn't. It doesn't take much of
a hold for water to get in.

Speaker 23 (01:13:48):
Yeah. So uh again, how I want to find it?

Speaker 3 (01:13:58):
And is this.

Speaker 8 (01:14:02):
Describe again where it's at that you're getting the water
coming in?

Speaker 23 (01:14:06):
Well, the two roofs made to other okay, okay, the
new roof, they just went underneath it the other one.
So uh where the gee is? What the vane of it?

Speaker 8 (01:14:22):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (01:14:23):
The roofs stop?

Speaker 23 (01:14:25):
Okay, I gets the page.

Speaker 8 (01:14:30):
So what typically what a roofer would do is he'd
come up with a water hose up there and he'd
start at one spot letting the water run, and just
periodically be moving it until he gets where he's got
water leaking through and that kind of gives him the
space that the that the leak is at.

Speaker 23 (01:14:51):
Okay, uh well, I've done that myself, but others I don't. Ah,
I don't have experience to yeah, uh find it, but
uh well, I'll just talk about that.

Speaker 8 (01:15:05):
I can find it, all right. Yeah, take care, ye're sir,
And again seven one two one two five eight seven
four I'm gonna head to Cyprus and David, Well, how
can I help you today? Y?

Speaker 21 (01:15:27):
Yes, sir, I just had a couple of questions about insulation.
I heard you talking with some other guys.

Speaker 13 (01:15:32):
About it earlier.

Speaker 21 (01:15:33):
Okay, we have a eleven hundred square foot house with
sixteen foot cathedral ceilings, so the attic is actually only
like a quarter of the house, right, What would be
a good way to help cool the house off without

(01:15:54):
having to remove all the sheet rock along the ceiling
to put like a radiant barrier or something.

Speaker 8 (01:16:01):
Up well, and it is a cathedral ceiling, yes, sir. Yeah, okay,
so you're probably already packed with like fiberglass insulation or

(01:16:24):
something up there.

Speaker 21 (01:16:26):
Yeah, most likely. Yeah, it's just really old. The house
was built in nineteen eighty one.

Speaker 8 (01:16:31):
Okay, truthfully in an area like that. What I typically
tell people is when you're putting your next roof on,
you can put the radiant barrier under the shingles. Energy
Q Radium barrier can be installed under the shingles and

(01:16:51):
it'll give you that full radiant barrier protection because it's
got a thermal brake in the middle with multi layers.
In the mean time, though, in order to give you
some added protection, there is a product called cool Coat
and it's spelled k L Coat co A T. And

(01:17:12):
their website, I believe is coolcoat dot com. And basically
it is like ceramic beads that get mixed in with paint,
and so you can put that into your ceiling paint,
paint the ceiling and it'll give you some protection, not

(01:17:33):
as much as a full bown radiant barrier does. But
right now you've got noth.

Speaker 21 (01:17:40):
Yeah, exactly, yeah, right now there's nothing.

Speaker 8 (01:17:42):
Yeah, and it can be. This is a product that
can be mixed in in exterior paints as well to
help you know, with heating and energy efficiency and stuff.
So but it a in a situation like you're talking about,
it actually works pretty good.

Speaker 21 (01:18:00):
Okay, I'll look into that. Thank you for telling me
that then would doing blown in insulation in the quarter
of the attic that would that help anything with the
rest of the house.

Speaker 8 (01:18:13):
Well, anytime you have more insulation and in an area
that is, you know, having deficiencies, yes it will, it
will help. Now what's going to happen is after you
do that, you'll probably have to balance the HVAC system
because the area that's got more insulation is going to

(01:18:33):
tend to get colder when the AC is running than
the rest of the house. But don't let that stop you,
because it doesn't cost hardly anything to balance a system
where they choke off some of the air going into
that cold section and move it into the hotter sections.

Speaker 21 (01:18:51):
Okay, I can ask my AC guy about that. He's
been working on this. He's been working with the AC
since we bought the house, not parents cat one.

Speaker 8 (01:19:01):
So there you go.

Speaker 21 (01:19:03):
All right, Well, thank you very much, sir. I appreciate
your time today.

Speaker 8 (01:19:07):
My pleasure.

Speaker 22 (01:19:07):
You take care yep you two, thank you.

Speaker 8 (01:19:13):
And again seven one three, two, one two five eight
seven four. Any home improvement question you have, feel free
to pick up the phone, give me a call and
I'll see what I can do to help you out
here on Texas home improvement. You know, if you're looking
for siding for your home or business or deer stand,
you need to take a look at James Hardy siding.

(01:19:34):
I'll bring up deer stands because it is that time
of year, you know. But look the advantage of James
Hardy siding being it is cement based, it doesn't rot,
doesn't deteriorate, bugs don't need it. It's just there to stay.
And of course it doesn't catch fire either being cement based,

(01:19:55):
and it holds paint better than would ever thought about.
And the thing is they've got just so many options
with it. You can go with the lap siding, which
is what most people use, and mix and match it
with wood stuck, uh with stucco, look with wood shake,
all kinds of different designs. They got soffit boards, the

(01:20:17):
continuous perforated sofit boards, so you got good air, take
going ip into the attic. It's just a siding that
once it's on, you'll never have to worry about it again.
Now you can go to our website thhipro dot com
and click on the link for James Hardy's siding and

(01:20:37):
just imagine how gorgeous your home could.

Speaker 8 (01:21:12):
James, you know, Uh, Guardian roof Systems is one of
the best roofing companies I've ever talked with. I've used
our services multiple times, and I gotta tell you finding
a good quality roofing contractor is tough. And when I've
sat down and talked with Guardian roof Systems the first time,

(01:21:33):
I was just blown away by their knowledge and they
have not let me down since.

Speaker 14 (01:21:40):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (01:21:40):
They stay on top like these fortified roofs, which for
our area are just critical. What what the fortified roof is?
They the shingles themselves get nailed down more more fasteners
onto the shingle like we're a regular shingle may say
it needs four, this has six. The felt paper and

(01:22:03):
they typically use a synthetic which, by the way, Guardian
roof Systems introduced me to the synthetic roofs. That's how
long ago I've been dealing with these guys. But it
gets fastened down heavier. The plywood obviously gets fastened down
very well, and the joints in the plywood taped. So

(01:22:23):
even if all the shingles and felt paper get ripped off,
you don't have water coming into your home. That's what
does all the damage is typically the water. And because
these fortified roofs that's what it's called, are out there,
insurance companies are giving discounts now on roofs that are
done this way. Why because they're not having to pay

(01:22:46):
as big a claims. So you want a roofing contractor
who does a great job, keeps up with technology, you
want Guardian roof Systems. Two eight one four zero seven
seventy two point eighty. That's two eight one four zero
seven seventy two point eighty.

Speaker 10 (01:23:05):
Let's head over to fort Worth and Garry.

Speaker 11 (01:23:07):
Thank you, Jim on your head. They're Ready Seal. I've
got some garage doors. I put it on about two
years ago. It works great. The Ready Seal looks just
as good as it did today.

Speaker 21 (01:23:16):
I put it on.

Speaker 2 (01:23:17):

Beware of evil contractors half truths, you may get the
wrong half. Here's more Texas home improvement with Jim Dutton.

Speaker 8 (01:24:44):
Hey, welcome back seven one three, two one two five
eight seven four. We're going to head to southwest Houston
and Leon. Welcome to seven forty k t R H.
How can I help you?

Speaker 22 (01:24:58):
Thank you, Jim. I'm getting killed with electric bills, probably
like a lot of other people. I have a large house,
it's about fifty eight hundred square feet to story, and
last summer I was playing six hundred seven hundred dollars
a month for electricity, and since then I put in
about a foot of bone insulation. I've added thirty two

(01:25:21):
panels for solar and a Tesla battery, and I've got
a new program with free nights from eleven am to
six am. And I'm still getting six hundred and seven
hundred dollars bills. And a solar company called me this week.
They wanted offer me more panels. I said, no way.
But then he suggested like a blanket, an insulation blanket

(01:25:43):
to go over the blown insulation, and they wanted to
charge about almost six thousand dollars for that. Do you
have any suggestions?

Speaker 8 (01:25:53):
Yeah, I definitely wouldn't go with a solar blanket. You've
already got it.

Speaker 2 (01:25:58):
Like a barrier, A barrier, I think a radiant barrier.

Speaker 22 (01:26:03):
Okay, radiant radiant barrier. Yeah, I'm sorry.

Speaker 8 (01:26:07):
Was it the one that they're going to lay on
the attic floor?

Speaker 22 (01:26:10):
Yeah, they want to put it on top of the insulation.

Speaker 8 (01:26:13):
Yep, that's what I have in my house. Works great.
I've had one for over twenty years in my home
and I use the energy Q Radiant barrier. Energy Q Okay, No,
I can't see whether six thousand is a good price

(01:26:33):
or not.

Speaker 22 (01:26:34):
But yeah, it's about twenty five hundred square feet up
in the attic.

Speaker 8 (01:26:39):
Okay, then that sounds a little pricey to me.

Speaker 17 (01:26:42):
Then yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:26:44):
But if you want to call energy Q, talk to
Mark Delgado. His number is one eight hundred, nine hundred
sixty two twenty.

Speaker 22 (01:26:58):
One hundred and sixty two twenty Do you do anything?

Speaker 8 (01:27:01):
Are you any type of due it yourself.

Speaker 22 (01:27:03):
For somewhat, but I doubt if I want to crawl
up in one hundred.

Speaker 8 (01:27:12):
Now, look, what do you I'm gonna ask you like
my dad asked us when when I was young and
didn't get something done. Well, what do you doing between
two and four at night? It's arm I don't know.

Speaker 22 (01:27:26):
I'm generally somewhere in the neighborhood of my bed yeahing
something or another, uh lately just watching TV.

Speaker 8 (01:27:33):
Yeah. Well, I will tell you that the installation uh
for these radiant barriers like that, it is very very
simple because it comes in a four foot white roll
and it just lays on top of the insallation like
a blanket. So it is very easy to do. Beyond that, though,

(01:27:53):
the amount of insulation that you said you've got already, uh,
you got something else going on. And I'm really thinking
you need to get your electric panel looked at because
it sounds like something or the HVAC system, because it
sounds like something is arcing that's running up that electric bill.

(01:28:13):
With the items that you already have, you should not
have that high of an electric bill.

Speaker 22 (01:28:19):
That's That's what I'm talking about. Yeah, it's making me crazy.

Speaker 8 (01:28:23):
And I don't think I don't think the radiant barrier
is going to fix your problem. I think the first
thing I would doe, yep, call right Touch Electrical and
let them take a look at it and see if
there's something going on.

Speaker 22 (01:28:37):
Have them look at the panel. Yep, right, Trush Electrical. Okay,
all right, do you know they're pun nuber off hand?

Speaker 8 (01:28:46):
I do not.

Speaker 22 (01:28:48):
That's okay, right Touch Electrical. So do that before think
about the irradiant barrier.

Speaker 8 (01:28:54):
Yeah, I would be looking for what's running it up,
because with sixteen inches of insulation, you should you should
have plenty already.

Speaker 22 (01:29:02):
Right exactly. So okay, well, listen, I appreciate your advice.
You bet you'll call right back to Electrical next week.

Speaker 8 (01:29:09):
Thank you. Hey, let's talk real quick about USA insulation.
You know, if you don't have enough insulation in your walls,
you probably don't even know it because you can't see it.
But my house was built in nineteen seventy three. So
I laughed sometimes when people call and say I got
an older house. It was built in nineteen ninety five

(01:29:30):
or two thousand and three. No, I built My house
was built in nineteen seventy three. I had the walls
reinsulated by USA Insulation. They didn't have to tear the
sheet rock out or anything like that. They drilled holes,
shoe the mortar, inserted a tube and put this non
expansive foam insulation into the walls. Worked great. My house

(01:29:52):
is three thousand square foot, built in seventy three, and
I'm running a two hundred dollars electric bill. Yeah it works.
Call USA Insulation four zero nine three one six ninety
nine fifty seven. That's four zero nine three one six

more time before we go. If you're having a foundation problem,
you know, the sooner you address it, the cheaper it
is because addressed early enough, it's typically a maintenance issue.
Some root barriers, some drainage things like that, some water,
foundation watering. The problem is people wait, and when you wait,
the problem gets worse. Then you get into having to

(01:34:27):
do full blown underpinning. And you may only need ten
peers on a corner, but that's still more expensive than
just doing preventative maintenance. So if you need to get
your house checked, called due West Foundation Repair seven to

come out. I say we, because this is my business,
