So seven one three, two one two five eight seven four,
And talking about talking, We're gonna actually start with a
guest today while we get things going. I got Derek
from Lentil Lift with me, and Derek, welcome to Texas
Home Improvement. Thank you.
Speaker 8 (03:31):
It's very good to be out here.
Speaker 7 (03:33):
So let's talk about lental Lift because this is one
of those products where people really don't know what the
heck of lentil is to begin with, and why do
we have to lift one? So let's start with what
the lentil is.
Speaker 8 (03:47):
Yeah, so what it is, it's just angle iron. You
see any brick home that that brick is just really
it's a it's a brick facade around the structure. And
when they go to make a door opening, they're using
a large piece of angle iron. Uh. It's it's referred
to as a linyl. I don't know why we chose
(04:07):
that game.
Speaker 7 (04:08):
Charge that piece of steel if they call it a lentil.
Speaker 8 (04:11):
Uh, but yeah, that's what it is. And in an
ideal world, Uh, anytime a home was built, some folks
will come out and do some math and make sure
that uh, the lentil going into place was graded to
hold all the weight that was about to go over it.
But unfortunately that's just not the case.
Speaker 9 (04:29):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (04:29):
And so that's why we exist.
Speaker 7 (04:31):
Okay, so somebody had the house, it's built. They're getting
cracks in the brick veneer at the corners of the
overhead garage door opening, and the first thing that most
of them think is, oh, I got a foundation problem.
Well that's not necessarily a foundation problem.
Speaker 8 (04:50):
No, typically it's not. You can run into situations where
you'll see a failing linel in addition to a foundation issue.
But typically if you see that just those tailtale signs
of cracking, whether whether it's vertical cracks going just direct
above the garage, they usually like to chase and follow
up to a window. So if there's like two stories
and there's a window off to the side, you'll notice
(05:12):
where it's stairs stairstep cracking towards that. But nine times
out of ten, that's going to be a failing lintel.
Speaker 7 (05:19):
Yep. Yeah, And just jeff hy for people if you're
looking at at at you know, how can you tell
the difference? Well, one, if the foundation was moving, the
gap between the door opening and the brick veneer would
start to open. If all you're seeing is that crack
(05:39):
coming off the brick on the corners of the garage
door opening, that is typically going to be the lentil problem.
So well, now we know we got a problem. Yeah,
how are we gonna fix it? So to fix it?
Speaker 8 (05:51):
And one I'll say, uh, the cracking is what you'll
you'll see if you have a brick home. You know,
it could be hairline cracks you're not even noticing, but
it's gonna get bad enough where the actual opening of
that garage is going to start smiling at you sagging
down in the middle. But traditionally, what you would do
to put in a true replayer repair as you would
need to replace the lintel that's in place. What we
(06:14):
do is we have a system that goes in. It's
much faster, it's it's a smarter solution because it's very
over engineered. It's it's more cost efficient. But we come
in and we shore up the current lennl that's in place,
and what we place another lintel that goes into our system.
There's some engineering. A lot of folks smarter than me
have explained how it works. Generally, I know how it
(06:36):
works is there's a bend in the middle of that
beam that that's basically pushing upward and it shores it
up for the long haul.
Speaker 7 (06:44):
So after you've got it shored up, you secured it
into place.
Speaker 8 (06:48):
Now what So then we trim it out. So because
we're not removing anything from that structure, we're really adding
to it. We got to hide our system and it
comes in with a nice trim that goes around it.
It actually ends up looking pretty dang good because it
adds a little flare to that garage. But it's it's
a high grade vinyl that goes in. It doesn't lose
(07:09):
its color for thirty years. It's paintable, so you can
kind of customize it. But it adds a lot of
curb appeal to the home as well.
Speaker 7 (07:16):
It really does. I mean the ones I've seen brick
around garage doors never looks like it's finished. No, it's
missing something.
Speaker 8 (07:27):
Yeah, it looks like they just wrapped up early and
went home for the day.
Speaker 7 (07:31):
It really does. And when when I've seen you know
what lintal lift does and trim it out and everything,
it really gives it a nice finish.
Speaker 10 (07:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (07:40):
Look, yeah, and we're proud of that. It gives it
a very good look that We've had instances of homeowners
that have had it put in and the neighbor across
the street was wondering, you know, hey, how do I
get my hands on that trim and it's just it's Yeah,
it's a great look and a smart solution.
Speaker 7 (07:58):
Okay, so you mentioned that you're putting, you're adding in,
You're putting something in.
Speaker 8 (08:03):
Yep.
Speaker 7 (08:04):
Are you Are you making my overhead door opening narrower?
Speaker 8 (08:07):
No, So what we're doing is actually the system will
go in and at the top. It ends up being
flushed with that garage gasket behind that door opening, so
you're not losing any space up top. Columns do go
in on the sides. Typically those come in to where
we like to tell folks head on, Yes, you're gonna
lose a little space, but when we say a little,
we mean a little. You're not losing usable space. You're
(08:29):
gonna lose about three quarters of an inch on each side,
so round two inch and a half to two inches total.
What you're not gonna lose is a lot of money
on a traditional repair and you're not gonna have that
headache of just a massive task of fixing your home.
Speaker 7 (08:46):
So somebody needs to get this done. I'm assuming you
guys can come out give them a price, and.
Speaker 8 (08:53):
Yep, absolutely give us a call. We'll come out. We'll
give you a no obligation quote. We're gonna make sure
first of all that that that is indeed what is
going on. Uh, we'll give you a quote. We have
payment options available as well.
Speaker 9 (09:06):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (09:06):
But you can reach us at lintlift dot com or
give us a call at eight three three nine O
three two two two six.
Speaker 7 (09:15):
Okay. Uh, again that number was.
Speaker 8 (09:17):
What it was eight three three nine o three two
two two six.
Speaker 7 (09:23):

and yeah talk with us.
Speaker 8 (09:29):

Speaker 7 (09:31):
All right, you take care, thank you, and again we
are broadcasting live from the Epicenter for the Brises Valley
Home and Garden Show. You can still call in and
ask your questions. Seven one three two one two five
eight seven four. It's head to pair Land and Randy.
(09:52):
This is Jim. How can I help you?
Speaker 11 (09:55):
I've got a lighting of a led flat panel two
by four a light for the kitchen. Okay, I'm not
familiar with this kind of lighting from what I understand.
I look at YouTube stuff, and YouTube said that I
need to get a transformer and a controller. Do you
(10:22):
know what size I would need? Is something like that?
Speaker 7 (10:27):
No, because each one is going to use a different
size of its own. But you got the light. Is
this a new light fixture one that's existing.
Speaker 11 (10:38):
It's a new light fixture.
Speaker 7 (10:41):
It should already have all that with it.
Speaker 11 (10:44):
Oh it should.
Speaker 7 (10:46):
Yeah, if you're getting a new light fixture like that,
all you've got to do is just like if you're
putting in an old style one. Take the old one down,
obviously shut the power off and stuff. But take the
old one down, undo the wires for the power, hook
the new one up. You're done. All that stuff should
be built in already to the new one.
Speaker 11 (11:08):
Oh oh okay. So it's like putting in a regular
light bulb on I mean a light socket, correct, and
then I'm good to go it because I got to
choose color temperature, and there's something else that I got
(11:30):
to choose. Yeah, I would have hopefully a reasonably bright
light of the kitchen.
Speaker 7 (11:38):
Well what you what you'll find is a lot of them.
When you take the cover off of it, there is
a switch inside that you can slide that changes the
brightness and settings as far as the type of light
coming out of it. And so once you got it
hooked up, you slide it to whichever one you want
(12:00):
for the brightness, and you're done.
Speaker 11 (12:03):
Okay, And what about color temperature? I've never seen something
like this.
Speaker 7 (12:09):
Yeah, it's it's all in that switch there that you slide.
Speaker 11 (12:12):
Oh, it's all on the switch, yep. Okay, they just
connected up like a set the setting that I want
and then.
Speaker 7 (12:21):
Connect it up to the juice and it'll look it up. Yep.
Speaker 11 (12:27):
Okay, thank you very much.

Speaker 7 (15:43):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvement. Seven one three
two one two five eight seven four. That's seven one
three two one two five eight seven four. Omar, No,
there's a Q mar, yes, can I help you?
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Thank you for taking the call. I have a whenever
during the winter when I turned the hard water any
from anywhere, kitchen, bathroom, there is a noise coming from
the ceiling like it's something is hitting or something like that.
Speaker 7 (16:24):
Okay, and does it does it last a long time
or does it just once or twice?
Speaker 3 (16:34):
No, whenever you turn the water on, when you turn
the water off, voice that the noise goes off.
Speaker 7 (16:45):
Okay. So there's a couple of things that can be
making noises like that. Uh. One is the pipe is
jumping when it's turned on and off. Uh. But if
you turn the water on the hot water and it's
stays making a noise, it's usually because as the hot
water is going through it, there's an expansion change size
(17:08):
of the building materials and they're rubbing against each other,
and so it'll make a tick noise kind of like
a yeah. And if that's the case, and the only
thing you can do to fix that would be to
open up the ceilings or the wall, find out exactly
where it's at and give it more space to expand
(17:30):
and contract without it rubbing together against the two bys. Now,
the other noise that people hear sometimes, especially more now
with this PEX plumbing. You turn a faucet on or
the washing machine goes on and off, and the pipes
are all jumping and slapping, and that's just a matter
(17:50):
if they weren't secured into the openings very well, and
so they're bouncing around and the openings causing issues. But
the one that you just describe, that's strictly the expansion
contraction of the building materials. And honestly, okay, you're not
gonna want to go through what it's going to take
(18:11):
to open it up to fix something like that.
Speaker 15 (18:15):
Okay, Yeah, it's took from a copper plumbing yep. So
it's just a hard water expansion and contraction.
Speaker 7 (18:28):
Yep. Yeah, hot water yep. Okay, I appreciate, thank you,
you bet you take care by and again our number
seven one three, two, one two, five eight seven four
and all see what I can do to help you
out here on Texas Home Improvement Bill. Welcome to Texas
(18:53):
Home Improvement.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Oh, thank you for talking my call. My question is
about insulation on the north side of our house.
Speaker 16 (19:00):
We have hardy board on the outside and R thirteen
on the inside, and the house is probably over two
years old, two and a half years old roughly, and
that side of the house has the bathroom and then
the toilet is in a separate little you know, water
closet more or lessig iss call it.
Speaker 17 (19:18):
But it's just a lot colder in that part of
the house than the other parts of the house. And
I'm just wondering if you could just add any types
of insulation. You know, obviously walls are all closed up now,
but it does have R thirteen.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Then along that whole wall, right.
Speaker 7 (19:39):
You actually can have insulation injected into those walls. USA
Insulation does that. I just had my whole house done
about three four months ago, and basically it'll take that
R thirteen insulation and encapsulate it with a non expansive
foam so when they're putting his foam in there, it
(20:01):
compresses the fiberglass insulation, seals all the air gaps. But
it'll pretty much double the R value of what you
got now. And that's why I had mine done three
four months ago, and man, it made a huge difference
on the the comfort, the noise, But the big one
is the temperature because I'm not getting air drafts, and uh,
(20:24):
by increasing that R value, it's controlling the temperature difference
between inside and outside much better.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
Okay, Yeah, we had for a short period of time.
Speaker 17 (20:34):
We had a little bit of line for you from
the pegs froze up, but there wasn't really no problem
once it thought out.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
But I just think insulation, what benefit like you?
Speaker 7 (20:48):
Yeah, give give USA Insulation a call and we get
you their number here real quick at eight three two
three seven six six eight six five and they can
get that taken care of.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
USA Inslation. Yep, thank you very much.
Speaker 7 (21:08):
You bet take care. And with that, we're getting ready
to take a quick break for news, traffic and weather
updates here at the bottom of the hour. But pick
up the phone, give me a call. Seven one three
two one two five eight seven four. We are broadcasting
live from the Brazas County Home and Garden Show. We're
at the epicenter out in American Standard. You know, if
(21:45):
you're looking for an air conditioning company that brands that
can take care of all your air conditioning needs, American
Standard is it this. They're nationally recognized for quality and comfort,
and really, let's face it, that's what we're looking for
in our air conditioning systems. We're looking for something that's
going to last and keep us comfortable. Now, American Standard
(22:07):
Heating and air Conditioning systems have a lot of choices
for you. When it comes to air conditioning. You can
keep your home cool and humidity free, but be ready
for a little heat when you need it. And you
can invest wisely and invest in the home comfort system
that will last you a long, long time comfort the
way you like it. That's American standardair dot Com. And
(22:30):
in my personal home, I mean I've been using American
Standard since nineteen ninety nine. I started with a single
speed in my first house that I put them in.
Now I've got a variable speed in the house I'm
in now, and that is ultimate comfort control.
Speaker 5 (22:48):
Better than your favorite beverage washing down a big bag
of pork rides. This is Texas Home Improvement with Jim Duntonday.
Speaker 7 (23:01):
Welcome back to Texas Home Improvement, your total home improvement
source seven one three two one two five eight seven four.
We're gonna head to Galveston, John, This is Jim. How
can I help you?
Speaker 14 (23:16):
Yes, And I have a one hundred and fifty year
old house here in Galveston. That's what's called the Rights Cottage,
which it sets on piers about seven feet off the
ground and you know, an enclosed bottom section. But I've
got some settling in one corner of the house and
it's only about an inch? Is that something I need
(23:39):
to worry about?
Speaker 18 (23:42):
Well?
Speaker 7 (23:42):
Is it causing any issues?
Speaker 14 (23:45):
No? I mean but other than with my wife?
Speaker 7 (23:52):
Well, John, I thought you might have been a little
smarter than that. But okay, look if it's if it's
not causing issues, and by issues, I mean you know
doors out of alignment, sheet rock cracks, things like that, right,
(24:16):
brick cracks, then there's typically not a reason you need
to be doing anything with it. I mean, when I'm
reviewing repair plans with my estimators, the first question I'm
always asking them is what are you fixing? Because it
wasn't tabletop level the day it was built, and if
you make it tabletop level, you'll damage stuff. So unless
(24:38):
you're actually got something there that you're physically going to
be fixing, no, you don't need to be doing anything.
Speaker 14 (24:46):
Okay, but that's kind of my thought on it is,
you know, if you go in and jack it up
for an inch, it's going to cause problems somewhere else.
Speaker 7 (24:56):
Well, if it actually went down the inch, it and
it ha as cracks that are opened up that you
can help close by picking it up. You're not going
to cause problems. But if it just because it's an
inch down doesn't mean that it's moved that much. And
so that's why you got you gotta match it with
(25:17):
the cosmetics.
Speaker 14 (25:19):
Okay, all right, well that answered my question. So the
answer is I'm not gonna do anything to it because
there's no visible problems, you know, around I've got one
around a quarter inch around the window seal that just
needs to be caughughed in.
Speaker 7 (25:40):
Keep it watered around that foundation, even though it's you know,
the cross space. Like you said, it's the same as
a slab. If you'll keep it watered, you keep it. Now,
the difference in Galveston is you're typically going to be sand,
and if you do a bunch of watering on the sand,
you'll make your problem worse. So I'm gonna chell and
(26:00):
that's reading. I didn't recommend watering on yours immediately because
on the island itself, I don't recommend doing watering. But John,
you need to be prepared for a long winter because
if your wife wants it fixed, you're gonna hear about it.
Speaker 14 (26:18):
I think just by talking to you it may have
remedied the problem.
Speaker 7 (26:22):
Okay, well sir, you have a good.
Speaker 14 (26:25):
One all right, thank you very much.
Speaker 7 (26:28):
Yep, bye bye again our number seven one three two
one two five eight seven four. I'll see what I
can do to help you out here on Texas Home Improvement. Kurt,
how can I help you today?
Speaker 19 (26:44):
Yes? Hey, it's Kirk from Cyprus. I have a story house.
It's about twenty years old and downstairs and uh, guest toilet.
When you flush the toilet, it's so or Sometimes it
does it. When you don't even flush the toilet, you
start hearing like this whining sound in the wall, and
(27:07):
when you flush the toilet it goes away.
Speaker 7 (27:11):
Okay.
Speaker 19 (27:12):
And I put the toilet in new when I moved in.
It's like a color low boy, And I don't know
how to stop. My wife he's telling me I need
to call the plumber and tear the wall out, figure
out why it's whining in there. But I don't know
what can be cause of it.
Speaker 7 (27:30):
A little bit of leakage going by one of the
valves flappers, you know, like an old ring or flat
washer something like that, and that can move just a
little bit, it'll make that kind of noise. So here's
what you can do in order to test if that's
(27:51):
what's happening when you're hearing it.
Speaker 19 (27:54):
The next time, turned a valve all the way on,
thinking that's what it could be.
Speaker 7 (28:00):
But did you turn the valve all the way off?
Speaker 19 (28:02):
No, I didn't do that.
Speaker 7 (28:04):
That's what I was going to say. When you're hearing
the noise, turn the valve all the way off, and
if the noise stops, it's telling you that you're getting
some water.
Speaker 19 (28:15):
That is leaking through the thing in the toilet.
Speaker 7 (28:19):
Yep, exactly, that was my guess. And if that's the case,
take twelve bucks, go down to the store and buy
a new.
Speaker 19 (28:27):
One, get a fluid master and put it in there.
Speaker 7 (28:31):
Yep, yep.
Speaker 19 (28:33):
Okay, yeah, because man, she's got me crazy every time
there it is there, it is rn. Go listen, you know.
I'll try that. Then that's that's what was my suspicion.
Speaker 7 (28:48):
Well, I will tell you to answer her and say
what do you want me to do about it? Is
not the right answer. I tried that at my house
and it did not work.
Speaker 19 (28:57):
I hit a five plumbing bill from some plumber that
come tear the wall of an open No.
Speaker 7 (29:02):
Yeah, I don't want to do that. No, I don't
think that's what you do.
Speaker 19 (29:07):
I'm gonna try that. That's a good idea, is close
the valve and maybe I just get you know, it's
got the original valves from the house and they're probably
the builder cheapest valve you can get. Anyway. Yeah, change
the vowel v out and changed. You know, I'm a cabinet guy,
so it's pretty easy to do plumbing, you know.
Speaker 7 (29:27):
Yep.
Speaker 19 (29:29):
Okay, Well, thank you, sir, have a great day. I
like your show. I listened every once in a while
on the weekends when I get the chance. Sounds getting
a good job there. You're helping the people out.
Speaker 7 (29:41):
Thank you, sir. I appreciate that.
Speaker 19 (29:43):
I have a good one.
Speaker 6 (29:45):
All right about Trump?
Speaker 9 (29:47):
No?
Speaker 18 (29:47):
Trump?
Speaker 7 (29:51):

air Conditioning a call. Now we can come in check

going to do you some good. So if you want
to get your house checked out see if we can

You want the best, you call due West.
Speaker 5 (31:43):
Don't wait until it's one hundred degrees outside and the
wait times are longer than the lines at the DMV
to get new windows. Call the Texas Remodel Team Window
Division today.
Speaker 8 (31:51):
They carry several.
Speaker 5 (31:52):
Lines of windows so you can get the windows you
need and the price and how does a typical wait
of three weeks. It's in not as bad as the
DMV and now to the end of the Eebruary. To
make things even easier, you'll get twelve months same as
catch called the Texas Remodel Team Window Division Today. Two
eight one three, nine nine sixty two. I go to
thhipro dot com and click on the link to the
Texas Remodel Team Window Division.
Speaker 7 (32:14):
Conquered Windows Film. You know, if you're looking for a
way to make some of your windows a little more efficient,
a little more comfortable, you take a look at conquered
window Film. Here's the kind of stuff it can help
you with. You got too much light coming through, too
much heat coming through, nosy neighbors looking through things like that.
Conquered window film can help you. In fact, their window
(32:37):
films block up the ninety nine percent of the UV race,
making things a whole lot more comfortable. Eight eight eight
two zero six one four one three for Conquered Window Film.
I'm thinking about putting the band back together.
Speaker 5 (33:01):
We're back with Jim Dunton non Texas Home Improvements.
Speaker 7 (33:09):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvement seven one, three, two,
one two, five eight seven four. This portion of Texas
home improvement has made possible right Ready Seal. You know,
that's the product you can put on any outdoor lumber
to protect it. Then you don't have to worry about laps, runs, streaks,
any of that kind of stuff, which makes it the
easiest do it yourself project you will ever encounter. Because
(33:33):
what Ready Seal does, it's so steep down into the
wood fibers, creating a flexible barrier that keeps the moisture
out of the wood. It really is that simple. So
I love this product, and as you've heard on the
show over the years, my dad loves this product. It's
Ready Seal. So let's head down to Titusville, Florida, DC.
(33:55):
How are you doing all right?
Speaker 20 (33:58):
How you doing the gym? Everything going good out?
Speaker 11 (34:00):
Then?
Speaker 7 (34:01):
It is? How are you doing in Florida? You guys
got more snow than we did.
Speaker 20 (34:08):
Now that's up north. I'm in the central part of
her by the coast, so okay, we're warming up today.
We're up at seventy so it's getting back to tom you know,
no sweatshirt weather. But I've got a question about my roof.
I've been seeing some of these commercials about the respray
of a roof that's supposed to revitalize it. Does that
(34:30):
really work.
Speaker 7 (34:33):
It? Okay, not to the degree that they try to
tell you it does. Though. Basically, what they're putting on
it is a product that soaks into the asphalt material
to feed it life again, kind of like soaking it
in oil. It absorbs the material and gives the asphalt
(35:00):
portion of your shingles some flexibility back into it. Uh.
They try to tell you, oh, you can double the
life at your shingles. You're not. You're gonna add a
couple of years. But that's really typically about it. So
you think it's worth it or not depends on what
(35:21):
they're gonna charge you for it. Good because and literally,
if you gotta I'm gonna use very round numbers here.
If it's gonna cost you ten thousand dollars to put
a new roof on and you're thinking about selling the
house in six months, anyways, i'd put the product on. Uh,
(35:43):
you know, say it costs me two thousand dollars. I'm
gonna put the product on. But if a new roof
is ten thousand and they're gonna charge me five to
put this on, I'm already halfway through to a new roof. No,
it doesn't make money sense then.
Speaker 20 (35:56):
Right, yeah, yeah, okay, that's all I want to know.
That's it. And appreciate your shake up. You've been for years.
Hope you all take care of yourselves out there.
Speaker 7 (36:06):
We do it. I appreciate it.
Speaker 20 (36:08):
DC all right, Bye, bye, sir.
Speaker 18 (36:11):
Bye.
Speaker 7 (36:14):
Again our number seven one three two one two five
eight seven four Henry and Spring. What can I do
for you?
Speaker 18 (36:24):
Hello, mister Dutton. Now are you doing?
Speaker 7 (36:27):
I'm doing wonderful? How about you good?
Speaker 18 (36:30):
I have a question for you, uh, concerning my garage.
I have a detached garage and the uh my driveway
uh takes a probably I'm going to guess about an
eight degree depth from from street level, and so when
(36:53):
it rains, my garage floods. So what I want to
do The driveway obviously ends at the foundation for the garage,
and what I want to do is I want to
install a French drain now, and I want to do
(37:15):
this myself. I know how to do it. But I'm
wondering if I if I cut whatever the width of
the French drain is. Just for giggles, we'll say eighteen inches.
If I cut eighteen inches all the way across my
driveway put in my French drain, which is going to
(37:35):
be you know, nothing more than plastic. Excuse me, Do
I run the risk of my driveway sliding on down? Well,
I need to shore it up somehow or other.
Speaker 7 (37:54):
No, you don't need to shore it up. But let me,
let me verify. You're not really talking about a French drain.
You're talking putting a channel drain in correct. Uh, yes, sir, yes,
where you okay? Uh so absolutely Uh. When you put
the channel drain in, uh, it will typically have bracing
enough going across that you don't have to worry about
(38:15):
the driveway sliding down.
Speaker 18 (38:18):
Outstanding, And uh, I'm I'm a metal worker, so I figured,
you know, just for giggles, and in case I needed to,
I was, Uh, I'm gonna fab my own seal grates
uh to uh to go across the top of it,
you know, so we don't you know, trip and fall
in it. And I could put my car a sure
but uh but even if I didn't and I chose
(38:42):
plastic or whatever, I don't have to uh worry about
uh my driveway.
Speaker 7 (38:47):
Uh across those synthetic grates that they put on those things.
I've installed them on on just tons of driveways, even
on commercial properties, and they they were great, out standing. Well,
you'll find you don't need it. You'll find you won't
need one that's eighteen inches wide as long as you
(39:09):
your your bigger your biggest thing that you run into
with these is where are you going to drain it off?
Speaker 18 (39:14):
To h I've got uh, I've got drains on each
side of the garage. Okay, but they're they're their ground level.
And you know with all of these uh these blankety
blank pine trees and whatnot that I am in my backyard. Yeah,
well those are coming down too, but that's another day.
Speaker 7 (39:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 18 (39:36):
Yeah, so uh they're they constantly get covered. So I'm
gonna have to do some digging and uh and run
some uh some PVC and whatnot. But uh, I've got
them plumbed all the way out uh through my through
my backyard and out into the gully behind my house.
Speaker 7 (39:54):
Okay, that'll work, now, I will tell you on those
pine trees. Steal a quick and make some amazing stuff
that can take care of those pine trees for you.
Speaker 18 (40:05):
Oh I am, I am a dangerous man with a chainsaw,
my friend.
Speaker 7 (40:13):
All right, Henry, you take care.
Speaker 18 (40:15):
Thank you, Jim, you have a great day.
Speaker 7 (40:18):
Yep, bye bye bye. With that seven one three, two
point two five eight seven four, we'll be back with
more Texas Home Improvement. Have you got those old single
(40:40):
pain aluminum frame windows. Have you got double pain illuminum
frame windows from a builder that put them in in
the eighties, nineties, and some of them even later than that.
It's time to call Texas Remodel Teams Window Division at
two eight one three nine nine four zero six y two.
Let them come out show you your options to make
(41:01):
your home more energy efficient. I will tell you. Me
and my wife are sitting at the kitchen table and
during the snowstorm this year this week, and she was
talking about, you know, one of the best things we
did to our house was these replacement windows, because now
you can sit and not feel the cold air coming in,
and you know your conditioning goes out that same way.
(41:22):
So let's fix both problems at once by calling Texas
Remodel Teams Window Division two eight one three nine nine
four zero six two. That's two eight one three nine
nine four zero six two for Texas Remodel Teams Window Division.
Speaker 5 (41:39):
When Jim Dutton of Texas Home Improvement recommends a comedy,
he won't steer you wrong, and he recommends Guardian roof Systems.
Speaker 7 (41:47):
It's head down to Leak City.
Speaker 6 (41:48):
Hello jd Hey damn, how you doing there?
Speaker 11 (41:51):
Man?
Speaker 13 (41:51):
I did call you last week about uh timnycat cleek
and I'd had somebody come out and basically they rip
me off. You recommended I called Guardian Roof and I
did call it. The technician came out, he was on time,
he's courteous. He said, yep, they've used the wrong type
of sealing. So he cleaned it and resealed it and
managed that did it. Kudos to you for recommending Guardian,
(42:13):
and kudos to Guardian for doing a polite, pleasant good.
Speaker 10 (42:17):
Job for me. I really really appreciate that, and thank
you so much.
Speaker 5 (42:20):
You've got to take care of Guardian roof Systems, the
official roofing company of Texas Only Improvement. Here's their number
two eight one four oh seven seventy two eighty that's
two eight one four oh seven seventy two eighty our
click the link under trusted contractors at thhipro dot com.
Speaker 7 (42:40):
You know when there's really cold weather like we had
this week, that's how you know how well your home
is insulated and how an energy efficient it is, because
in the in the summer months, it's just your air
conditioning going outside, but in the winter months, it's that
cold air trying to come in. Well, if your wall
are letting cold air in, you feel it in the
(43:03):
electrical outlets, on light switches, they're on outside walls, things
like that, you need to call USA Insulation. I had
my house done three four months ago. Love it. Not
only does it make your house more energy efficient, it'll
help make it quieter as well because it blocks up
to eighty percent of the noise from outside. Not to mention,
(43:24):
it's typically gonna double the r value in your walls.
And no, they're not tearing the walls out, They're simply
injecting this non expansive foam into your existing walls. Eight
three two three seven six six eight sixty five. That's
eight three two three seven six six eight sixty five.
Speaker 5 (43:51):
The best thing to happen to Home Improvement since duck ticking,
baland wires all.
Speaker 1 (43:55):
This is Texas Home Improvement with Jim Dutton.
Speaker 7 (44:01):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvement. We're gonna head
straight into the calls, Tim and Spring. How can I
help you?
Speaker 2 (44:10):
Hello, Jim, I've got two questions.
Speaker 18 (44:13):
One is windows. Windows.
Speaker 21 (44:17):
We've got a large game room that's got six windows. Anyhow,
the top windows seem to leak and it drips down
inside and it only leaks when we have like hurricane
type weather, so driven sideways and we've had them recocked,
(44:39):
We've had them.
Speaker 18 (44:39):
Put citing around the brick.
Speaker 7 (44:41):
We don't know if they.
Speaker 22 (44:42):
Were installed with the right flashing. How do I go
out finding out what the problem is. I hate to
buy new windows and find out the brick is really
the problem. And I hate to have somebody just do brick.
And sure, I'm just tired of water.
Speaker 7 (45:00):
So if it's only happening when you're getting those hard
driving reins, I don't think it's gonna be the calking
and all that stuff. And especially when you tell me
it's happening on the upper windows on the top part there,
I'm really leaning towards it wasn't flashed right when it
was built. The water hits the bricks, soaks in through
(45:22):
the brick and the mortar runs down and it's hitting
the lintel on the top side and coming in that way. Okay,
and that's going to be having to open that frame
up and fix it properly. Now, A short cut to it,
A short cut to it can be to put a
(45:43):
masonry sealer on the brick veneer and that will keep
the brick from taking on moisture and that may fix
your problem. So before I start tearing everything apart, that's
what I would try first. And I hate to do this.
I gotta let you go because we are out of
time for this hour. Do you have another hour to
go though, So don't go anywhere seven one three, two
(46:03):
one two five eight seven four. Let's talk Lental Lift
before we leave, though, because if you got an overhead
door that's got a problem, you need to call Lental
Lift to get that brick taken care of and get
everything secured back into place. Eight three three nine zero
three two two two six.
Speaker 1 (46:25):
Text is Home Improvement is on the air when your

as well, so that's how you send in email questions

three two one two five eight seven four, we're gonna
get ready to jump into a call. But before we do,
(48:43):
we are broadcasting live today from the Brasses Home and
Garden Show. We're out at the Epicenter in Fort Bend.
And look, if you're looking for a home show to
go to. This is the one to come out to.
They don't charge you to get in to walk through,
talk to some of the UH contractors and vendors and
(49:05):
suppliers and stuff out here. UH makes for a great
afternoon and can be rather informative. I in fact, I've
been walking through earlier today. I saw beds and yeah,
what am my? What the heck am I going to
learn about a bed? Right? They now have split queens.
I did not know that. Me and my wife have.
(49:27):
We've been married forty years. We've always slept in a
queen bed and we were talking. You know, I like
to tilt mine up sometimes she doesn't, and so we've
all we've been kind of talking about going into a king,
but for us it's just too big. Well, we can
do a split queen and be able to do that now,
So gives us something to look about talk about. And
(49:50):
I'll move on seven one three, two, one, two, five,
eight seven four. I got weighed with due West air
Conditioning here and Wade, how are you today?
Speaker 23 (50:01):
Doing very good?
Speaker 7 (50:03):
So you got a special deal and I've talked about
it a couple of times here, going right now on
air quality, talk to me about it well.
Speaker 9 (50:14):
Doing this promotion. What we're coming out for free. We
do an air quality test and also an addic evaluation test,
and we gauge how much efficiency your attic is. Let
you know what you could do to save some money
every month on electricity usage. We have the newest tools
(50:38):
that actually test the air itself, not just hey, you
don't have XYZ. We actually test the air, show you
everything and give you all the information. This promotion that
we're doing, it's a free visit and we do all
those tests so it can do one of three things.
(51:02):
Give you healthier air quality, breathable air, increase the comfort
your home, and or save you money every month.
Speaker 7 (51:10):
So let's talk about air quality real quick, because you know,
for a lot of companies, the first thing they come
out and tell you is, oh, you don't have a
UV light. We got to put a UV light in.
And you know, my take on it is so often
people are being sold UV lights that don't need them.
What's going to tell you that they need one?
Speaker 9 (51:32):
So on the air quality test, it actual tests the
particles in the air. Particulars it test is for voc
and viruses, bacteria, things of that nature, and if everything
is and it gives you a final score. So if
you have a good high score, low VOC ratings, you
(51:53):
don't need those products, right. The actual breakdown of the
air tester tells you what you can benefit from and
what you don't need. A lot of the other companies
they will just say, hey, you don't have a UV
like you needed. That will be better air quality, and
(52:13):
it might not be nothing you need at all. That's
why I ensure with this promotion, every one of my
technicians that go to your home has to have that.
Speaker 7 (52:24):
Test that's had had a little bit of a hard
sell to be able to do this one, didn't you
get sure?
Speaker 24 (52:34):
I did?
Speaker 7 (52:36):
And I'm gonna tell I'm gonna tell the listeners up
front because when Wade brought this to me, my first
thing was, we aren't selling all this crap to people
when they don't need it. So how we're going to
be rest assured that they need these products? And you know,
he went through showed me the tools, what they're going
to be doing, and how we're rest assured that if
(52:57):
you need it, hey, this is what it's going to take.
But if everything comes back good, you got good filtration,
you're not having back here is and all the other stuff.
You don't need this. You get a clean bill of health,
you move on. It's kind of like going to the
doctor for for a physical once a year to know
that everything is good.
Speaker 9 (53:18):
Still, that's correct.
Speaker 7 (53:22):
So wait, how did they get in touch with with
with you for getting this done?
Speaker 9 (53:27):
All they got to do is call the office to
do US number that's already set up for them to
start up the free evaluation. They call up, give the
auto information, we booked the work order or booked a
time frame force to come. You will get a before
(53:48):
we head help. You'll get the UH text message and
email that you know we're en route. And when we
get there, we'll show everything cut and dry from A
to Z. I'll show you. We'll show you the tester,
we'll show you the results. We will turn around show
(54:09):
you the whole UH equation and everything for the efficiency
of the attic. It's just as easy as just giving
the call and just booking an appointment.
Speaker 7 (54:18):
All right, Wade, I appreciate it. The number to call
seven one three four seven three seven one five six
that's the main due West line and UH the office
will get you taken care of and was it. What
is Was it as easy as I told you it
would be? Wade? Yees, sir, Okay, we'll talk to you later.
Speaker 9 (54:39):
Thank you, you have a good day.
Speaker 7 (54:41):
Bye again. You don't want to get your quality checked?
Let do West air Conditioning do it? Seven one three
four seven three seven one five six And I'm gonna
jump into this call real quick as he's been waiting
a long time. This is Wade and Katie. How can
I help you?
Speaker 10 (54:58):
Hi, Jim, Thanks for taking my call. No problem. My
wife and I have an old home. It was built
in the sixties and we had a waterline break inside.
In the process of taking four foot of feet rock
out in the whole house, we found out that the
duplex receptacles do not have a ground on them and
(55:20):
they were in the house. So talk to a couple
of people and they said, well, you need to run
new circus all the way through from the panel out.
Talk to gentlemen the other day. He said, no, you don't.
You should just run a ground from each duplex to
the next duplex and run it through the whole house
and run it outside to a ground rode and you're done.
Is that true?
Speaker 7 (55:38):
That is yeah? That is yes.
Speaker 10 (55:42):
That will work.
Speaker 18 (55:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (55:44):
The receptacles themselves are normally not grounded.
Speaker 9 (55:49):
Oh they're not.
Speaker 7 (55:51):
No, how how old is your home?
Speaker 10 (55:54):
It was built in nineteen sixty four, I believe.
Speaker 7 (55:57):
Okay, so you were built prior to the grounding, so
you probably have sixty four. You probably still have a
two wire system in there, don't you, Yes, sir. Yeah,
See when when they went to the three wire, the
third wire takes everything out and grounds it that way.
Speaker 10 (56:16):
So if I go back and replace all of the
eplef receptacles with the three wire receptacle, can I run
a ground wire just daisy chain it from receptacle receptacle
receptacles to an outside ground rod and be done with it.
Speaker 7 (56:29):
Yeah, you could, But I would tell you with the
house from sixty four, and I've already got all the
walls opened up, and I'm gonna have to run one
wire that way, I'm running all new wire. I'm I'm
gonna replace with the Yeah, because the coding on the
existing wires, I mean it's probably fragile as heck. Anyways,
(56:53):
it's lived its life. H I got walls open, I
would I would the cost difference between run on the
one versus just a three wire and being done with
it won't be that much, but it's like having all
new wiring in the house.
Speaker 10 (57:09):
Then Okay, that's your recommendation. That's what we'll do. I
appreciate you.
Speaker 7 (57:14):
All right, you bet you take care? Bye? Alrighty again
seven one three two one two five eight seven four.
I am broadcasting today from, like I said, the Brasis
Home and Garden Show at the Epicenter out in Fort Bend.
And uh, I've got Brian here from UH Southern Water.
(57:40):
And Brian caught my eye earlier because you know when
people call me and ask me about uh water softeners,
treatments and stuff like that, I recommend Britta all the time.
I have two British systems, one at one at my house,
there's one at the Deer Lease. And uh so I
stopped and talked with him for a few minutes and Brian,
welcome to Texas Home Improvement.
Speaker 25 (58:00):
Yeah, I've had thanks, I've had a good time here
so far.
Speaker 7 (58:04):
So let's talk about water softeners. I mean you just heck,
you just heard me talking to one of my own
guys here for a second, which I don't normally do
about air conditioning stuff, but water filtration systems and softeners
and stuff like that is something that has hit the market.
(58:25):
I mean it's been in the market for let's face it,
for thirty forty plus years. But if we're becoming more
and more dependent on this because the water we're getting
his crap.
Speaker 25 (58:35):
I feel like every house that is built in the Houston,
Texas market in general needs to have one with the
house when it's being built.
Speaker 7 (58:43):
It really has gotten that.
Speaker 25 (58:44):
That's where I feel like, I'm glad that it's not
that way. Yeah, or else I wouldn't have a business here.
But yeah, I think every house in the Houston, Texas
market needs to have a water softener automatically put in.
Speaker 7 (58:55):
And you know a lot of people don't. I have
a water softener at my personal residence, and you know
some people will say, oh, well it makes me feel
slimy and stuff like that. Well, if that's the case,
it's probably not adjusted properly.
Speaker 25 (59:09):
Not adjusted properly cut down on your soap usage, shampoo,
shampoo usage, which is all benefits of owning a water
softener in general. It saves you money in that point.
So if you're have that silky feeling, you know, cut
down on the soap usage and the shampoo usage and
that should go away and you will get used to
it eventually over time.
Speaker 7 (59:26):
Anyways, Yeah, well, I tell you one of the things
I really tell the difference on when I'm in my
shower versus ones who don't have a softener. If you start,
you smell the chlorine and the stuff that's in the
water that you don't smell when you're going through the
water softener.
Speaker 25 (59:45):
Right, And we also treat that as well. That's something
that that's a big thing, especially here in Houston, that
you want to treat the chlorine as well as the
hardness in the water because that's a chemical that's absorbing
through your skin. You're inhaling it, it's drying out your
skin and hair. So we treat hardness and chlorin and
at the same time.
Speaker 7 (01:00:01):
So when you guys come out to a house, you're
you're starting from scratch at a house. What's first thing
you do.
Speaker 25 (01:00:07):
We'll do assessment of the plumbing where the install would
where your water maine is going into the house, and
we'll see where the install is going to be so
we know we're working with. Then we do a water test,
see what your water compensation looks like or what's in
the water that we need to be treating for. Okay,
we don't recommend or try to upsell you on anything
you don't need. We just this is what you need
and this is what we recommend, and then we do
(01:00:28):
a water test, we go over the options with the
homeowner or the customer and go from there.
Speaker 7 (01:00:34):
It sounds good. Yeah, So, I, like I said, I've
recommended Brita for for years. I see. That's one of
the systems is that you carry other systems besides Britta.
Speaker 25 (01:00:44):
We carry other systems, but in my opinion, Brita Pro
is the most efficient bang for your buck in for
the quality of the system. It's a great system. It's
one of the best systems on the market. I'm a
firm believer in that.
Speaker 7 (01:00:56):
Okay, So what else do you guys get into.
Speaker 25 (01:00:59):
Then we do all water treatment current turnkey, so we
will treat private wells, We treat homes on city water.
We do do commercial as well, but mainly residential and
chlorine and hardness of the two main contaminants that we're
treating most of the time.
Speaker 7 (01:01:16):
Yeah, and chlorine has become a much larger now than
it was even ten years ago.
Speaker 25 (01:01:21):
They're pumping a lot of chlorine in these waters.
Speaker 7 (01:01:23):
Yeah they are, they really are. So how can people
get in touch with you?
Speaker 25 (01:01:26):
You can call us at eight three two five nine
three three nine nine three where you can look us
up at our website, Southernwatersolutions dot com.
Speaker 7 (01:01:35):
Or of course today and tomorrow they can come out
here to the Brises Home and Garden Show.
Speaker 25 (01:01:40):
Yep, I will personally be out here all the rest
of the day today and all day tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (01:01:43):
Perfect well, Brian, I appreciate you taking time to talk.
Speaker 25 (01:01:46):
I appreciate you having me on, sir. You bet, thank you, sure,
thank you.
Speaker 7 (01:01:49):
And with that I got to take a quick break
seven one three two one two five eight seven four.
Uh Lee, you'll be first when we come back here
on Texas Home Improvement. Let's talk real quick about USA Insulation.
I mentioned them earlier. You know, if you're having issues
with cold spots in your home when the cold weather hit,
you need to call USA Insulation. Not only when they
(01:02:13):
inject their non expansive foam insulation into the walls will
it help with the sound deading from outside up to
eighty percent, but you really will start feeling the difference
in the rooms as they're going through the project. It
helps balance out the temperatures, gets rid of those hot
and cold spots, makes it where everything is just so
much more comfortable because it's raising the r values and
(01:02:34):
making your house more energy efficient. USA Insulation eight three
two three seven six six ' eight six ' five.
You know, if you're having a sewer leak under your
homes foundation.
Speaker 26 (01:02:48):
That's something that really needs to be addressed, but it
needs to be addressed by somebody who can take care
of the plumbing as well as the homes foundation.
Speaker 7 (01:02:55):
That's why you want to call du West both a
plumbing company and the foundation repair company to make sure
if your homes foundation stays in tact years after the
plumbing work is done. When you want the best, call
you West seven one three or seven three seven one
five six online at dudash weest dot com.
Speaker 12 (01:03:16):
You want to upgrade your kitchen, organize your stuff, and
build the outdoor space of your dreams.
Speaker 7 (01:03:20):
But where do you start?
Speaker 12 (01:03:21):
Well Projects Salved the Brazos Home and Garden Show is here. Finefielders, remodelers,
landscapes and everything for outdoor living. Get expert gardening advice
from master gardeners and host of garden lines, Skip Richter
at ten seminars and enjoy pottery demonstrations. Plus admission is
free courtesy of a Chanted Forest January twenty fourth to
twenty six at the Fort Beneficenter at Rosenberg Brazos hoomangardenshow
(01:03:43):

Speaker 7 (01:03:47):
You know, American Standard Air has been my choice in
air conditioners for years. In fact, I put the first
one in my personal residence back in nineteen ninety nine.
And American Standard is nationally recognized for excellence for performance, reliability,
and customer satisfaction. So take care of your family all
year long with American Standard heating and air conditioning. American
(01:04:08):
Standard technology meets that ever changing Texas weather and you
know what I'm talking about, like we're having right now
where we go from freezing temperatures to we're gonna be
up in the sixties. You know it. It hits it
head on. So keep your home cool and humidity free
or be ready for a little heat when you need it.
Invest wisely and invest in the home comfort system that
(01:04:29):
will lasts you a long, long time comfort the way
you like it. That's American Standardair dot com.
Speaker 5 (01:04:44):
More fun than putting pop rocks in the Canton litter Box.
Here's Jim Dunton on Texas Home Improvement.
Speaker 7 (01:04:51):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvement. Seven one three,
two one two, five eight seven four As promised. Hey,
this is Jim. How can I help you?
Speaker 27 (01:05:03):
Hey, Jim just had a question looking for maybe some
advice live out Memorial and I have a home that's old,
you know, seventy sixty seven years old, never flooded, but
there's very little elevation changes from the house to the
street or anywhere, and I need to redo a driveway
on the side of the house. And what I'm trying
(01:05:24):
to find out is is there any people that will
also look at the drainage and work hand in hand
with the concrete people, because I'm a favorite of concrete
work done, and then we may have flooding from the house.
And I'm trying to get everyone on the same page.
Does anyone do all that together? I don't want to
cause a point.
Speaker 7 (01:05:43):
Yeah, companies who do drainage and concrete work can definitely
do that. And a lot of concrete contractors do I
know'll do west we do? And do we take care
of the drainage and the concrete work all at the
same time.
Speaker 27 (01:06:00):
Okay, Yeah, what I didn't want to do is get
a concrete guy and he subbed out some drainage and
then if there's a problem later, each one's probably finger
at each other, you know.
Speaker 7 (01:06:09):
So no, yeah, you gotta have one contractor who does
both exactly.
Speaker 27 (01:06:13):
Okay, Well, I have to give you guys a call,
and I just you know something I'm thinking about doing.
I need to get it done. Okay, all right, thank you,
thank you.
Speaker 7 (01:06:23):
You bet and again our number seven one three, two,
one two five eight seven four we are broadcasting live
from the Brass Home and Garden Show out at the Epicenter,
and I'm going to bring a guest on real quick.
We've got Tommy Mantini. He's with the Home show. And
how are you doing today? Tommy?
Speaker 25 (01:06:43):
I'm doing great.
Speaker 18 (01:06:44):
Jim, how are you, sir?
Speaker 7 (01:06:45):
Well, I'm doing all right. So you guys got a
great show going here. One of the nice things is
it doesn't cost to get in.
Speaker 25 (01:06:52):
That's right, that's right.
Speaker 28 (01:06:53):
We UH have a nice sponsor that has taken covered
everyone's admission, so you can come on out here and
talk to well over one hundred vendors and UH Home
Improvement experts and pretty much line anything and everything you'd
ever want for your home and talk to people face
to face, have to answer your questions, and support local
businesses well.
Speaker 7 (01:07:12):
And and the nice thing is you can go through
meet and talk with them without having to have them
out to your house first.
Speaker 18 (01:07:18):
That's right.
Speaker 7 (01:07:18):
That's right, and that that that's always helpful. But whether
you're looking for uh, you know, contractors to build a
home or repair it, I see everything out here, and
then a whole lot of other stuff as well.
Speaker 28 (01:07:31):
Yeah, it's it's really just a great offering. We try
to try to have something for everybody. Enchanted Forests is
a local garden and nursery center and they have a
gazillion plants out here doing a big bloom sale is
what it's called. And then there's educational seminars on trees
and gardening and and birds and you know, all kinds
(01:07:53):
of cool stuff.
Speaker 7 (01:07:54):
So what's what's the hours today and tomorrow?
Speaker 28 (01:07:56):
Today is uh, we close at six pm and then
we're eleven to five pm.
Speaker 7 (01:08:01):
All right. That music means I gotta take a quick break.
Someone for news, traffic and weather here on seven forty ktrh.
So I'm gonna have to cut us off right there.
But Conquered Window Film. You know, if you're looking for
a window film for your home, you talk to the
folks at Concord Window Film. They could do a tint
that's so light you can't even see it, but it
still blocks up to ninety nine percent of the UV
(01:08:23):
race all the way to a tint so dark your
neighbors can't see through it. Your choice, and it can
help balance out temperatures and rooms and things like that
as well. So Conquered Window Film eight eight eight two
zero six one four one three. This is one of
the simplest do it yourself projects as well, because unlike
the stuff you get at say, box stores and Amazon,
(01:08:47):
it's not tacky that the adhesive has to be liquid activated.
So you put the liquid on the window, you put
the window tint on, you get it fitted properly, squeeze
it out, trim it out. It really is that simple.
Conquered Window Film eight eight eight two zero six one
four one three.
Speaker 29 (01:09:10):
You've worked hard all week, It's time to kick back
and relax. Okay, that's enough, Now get up and fix something.
This is Texas Hometprouvement with Jim Dutton.
Speaker 7 (01:09:27):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvements, your total home
improvement source. You know, one of the things you can
fix is all that outdoor would you got going, you know,
the stuff that's not being protected. You know, I'm talking
about a fan's, a deck, a doc all these kind
of swing sets and all these things that it's just
raw wood. It's exposed to the elements. Well, Ready Seal
(01:09:49):
can fix that for you. You simply apply Ready Seal.
It's a staining sealer in one. It soaks down into
the wood fibers, seals it from taking on moisture, and
takes care of making it where you don't have these
type of issues any longer, with the wood splitting and
aging and looking gray and dingy. You want to find
(01:10:10):
some Ready Seal. It's at the box stores, it's at lumberyards,
it's at hardware stores, it's virtually any place that sells
building materials. Or go to readyseal dot com and find
a store nearest to you with that, Why don't we
jump back into our calls at seven one three, two,
one two, five, eight, seven four. We're going to Steve
in Siena Plantation. How are you Steve?
Speaker 18 (01:10:34):
Hey?
Speaker 23 (01:10:34):
Good, fine, mister Dutton, I've been battling a problem since
Barrel where both of my chimneys want. One chimney actually
goes to the fireplace, the other one goes to the furnace.
And since Barrel they've both been leaking. And initially there
(01:10:57):
was a roof problem which I've erected, but both of
these chimneys still have water leaking basically down the pipe. Okay,
is that something that.
Speaker 7 (01:11:14):
I mean when you say down the pipe, you're talking
about down the chimney pipe itself.
Speaker 24 (01:11:21):
Yes, yeah, okay.
Speaker 23 (01:11:23):
Can't where the roof, you know, is connecting?
Speaker 19 (01:11:28):
You know?
Speaker 7 (01:11:28):
So are these uh are these brick fireplaces or is
it wood on the outside.
Speaker 23 (01:11:36):
Of nothing that they're they're both two metal pipes that
come out of the roof. They're shielded, I guess.
Speaker 7 (01:11:45):
Okay, okay, and you got nothing on the top of
them or anything. Yet.
Speaker 23 (01:11:52):
Both of the pipes have some sort of like a
metal contraption at the top, and then just before it
gets to the roof, they have both of them have
kind of like a metal skirt, I guess, and coming
out of the roof is kind of like a metal
cone and that goes into that skirt. And then there's
(01:12:18):
a pipe that extends above that.
Speaker 7 (01:12:21):
Okay, but the pipe itself is open to the air.
It doesn't have any type of cap on it.
Speaker 23 (01:12:29):
No, both of them have caps on them. Okay, they're
different types. I mean, it's not like water is coming
straight down the pipe. But it's definitely not the roof anymore.
I did have roofishes, but those have been resolved, so.
Speaker 7 (01:12:52):
Well, if it but if it's not the roof, and
I equate to ceiling around that pipe coming out as
part of the roof. So if it's not that, then
it's gotta be water going down the pipe.
Speaker 23 (01:13:05):
Fair enough. So I guess the question is is it
you know, maybe something during the hurricane bent the pipes.
Is there a way to adjust those or if I'm
seeking professional help? Who am I seeking professional help from
a plumber or a roofer or air conditioning guy?
Speaker 9 (01:13:29):
You know?
Speaker 7 (01:13:29):
Ah, That's kind of where I'm at at now. Okay,
how high up do they stick above the roof?
Speaker 23 (01:13:39):
Each is about three feet?
Speaker 7 (01:13:42):
Then absolutely the wind from the hurricane could have put
pressure on those pipes because they are typically going to
be in about five foot sections, and so if you
got three of it sticking up. Yeah, I could have
put a little twist to where when water does get
into it now it does let it soak out of it.
(01:14:04):
As far as who fixes that stuff, it depends on
what these pipes are for. You know. Typically a vent
pipe if it's PVC or something, is going to be
done by the plumbers. But when it comes to like
the hood vent, the exhaust vent in the bathrooms and
(01:14:26):
stuff like that, then it's done by the HVAC contractor.
The fireplace itself is normally done by the guy who
builds the fireplace, and that's the end of it. Nobody
really ever touches it again except for a chimney sweep,
and they would be the ones who would be able
to take a look at it and realign everything.
Speaker 23 (01:14:52):
And so the other one for the furnace would.
Speaker 7 (01:14:56):
Be the HVAC contractor.
Speaker 23 (01:14:59):
Ye yeah, okay, I mean they're both right next to
each other. They're only about ten feet apart, and that's
that's kind of where I'm at. I've been up there
looking at them hanging Christmas lights, trying to figure out
what's going on is there's nothing immediately obvious. So now
(01:15:21):
I'm kind of like at the point where if I
need professional help. Who the heck does Yeah, so.
Speaker 7 (01:15:28):
I would start with your HVAC guy, right.
Speaker 23 (01:15:32):
Okay, fair enough, okay, all right, thank you.
Speaker 7 (01:15:38):
You bet, Steve, take care you two seven one three
two one two five eight seven four. And obviously, Steve,
if you don't have an HVAC guy called due West
air Conditioning, we'd be more than happy to help you
out with that. Let's see seven one three two one
two five eight seven four and a head up to Conroe, Jason.
(01:16:02):
This is Jim. How can I help you?
Speaker 30 (01:16:05):
Yeah, Jim, I just got a quick question. My mother
got a water softener installed a couple months ago at
her house and it's outside on the corner of the house,
and her water man comes in through the front in
the middle of the house. So they put PBC pipe
(01:16:26):
along the front of the house to tie into it. Well,
my belief is that pipe should have been buried like
per code, say, twelve to eighteen inches deep, and before
this freeze we had, I went to check the insulation
and stuff, and there's only like a half inch of
dirt on top of the PBC pipe, And so I
(01:16:49):
had her water turned off the whole time because I
was afraid that PBC would freeze and crack. So I'm
wondering if they need to come out and reins all
that and up to code.
Speaker 7 (01:17:04):
It should be deeper than that, But at a half inch,
you're not going to freeze here in Texas because our
ground itself doesn't freeze. So I'm not concerned with that
part of it. But the bigger problem is, Yeah, you
can't shoot, you can't even walk on it and not
break it.
Speaker 24 (01:17:24):
Yeah, I mean an irrigation sprinkler line is deeper than that.
Speaker 30 (01:17:29):
Yeah, I'm just I mean because the news and all
that had everybody worried about hard freezes because we got
down at sixteen degree en rope. So I was just
I mean, she just got it installed, and from what
I've looked up on my code is it should have
been six inches below the frost line, but not less
(01:17:52):
than twelve inches below grade.
Speaker 7 (01:17:56):
Right, But we don't have a frost line in Texas.
Speaker 24 (01:18:00):
That exactly. That's why I think you just kind of slapped.
Speaker 7 (01:18:03):
It in there, exactly. But yeah, I'm.
Speaker 30 (01:18:07):
Wondering if they have to come back out and reinstall
that fifteen foot of PIET deeper.
Speaker 7 (01:18:14):
Yep, he should.
Speaker 24 (01:18:16):
Okay, Well you answer my question.
Speaker 7 (01:18:19):
I appreciate it alrighty, you take care, Thank you, bye
bye and again our number seven one three, two one

Here's Jim Dutton, host of Texas Home Improvement.
Speaker 7 (01:19:50):
Hosting this radio show for over twenty one years, and
I still get calls from people that hired a cheap
foundation repair company and they're left holding the bag when
they need them the most. If you're noticing cracks in
your walls and doors that are sticking, call the company
that's been in business doing it the right way since
nineteen seventy eight. Do West Foundation Repair seven one three four, seven, three,
(01:20:11):

Speaker 12 (01:20:18):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (01:20:18):
You know, we had Derek on from Lentil Lift and
we talked about how the brick venier homes at the
Lentil SAgs gets that cracks above the corners of the
overhead garage door opening. Well, you need to call lental
Lift and put an end too that. What they do
is they come in with a new Lentil that goes
under the old one, pushes everything back up into place,
(01:20:41):
and then my favorite part is they re trim everything.
It really makes that overhead door opening look gorgeous. That
comes from Lentil Lift. Eight three three nine zero three

Speaker 5 (01:20:57):
When Jim Dutton of Texas Home Improvement recommends A won't
steer you wrong and he recommends Guardian roof Systems.
Speaker 7 (01:21:04):
Said down to League City.
Speaker 6 (01:21:05):
Hello jd Hey Jim, how you doing that?
Speaker 11 (01:21:07):
Man?
Speaker 13 (01:21:08):
I did call you last week about timnycaps you recommended.
I called Guardian roofing. I did call them. The technician
came out, he was on time, and man, that did it.
Speaker 10 (01:21:17):
Kudos to Guardian. Good jobs for me. I really really
appreciate that.
Speaker 6 (01:21:21):
Guardian roof Systems.
Speaker 5 (01:21:22):
Click the link under trusted contractors at thchipro dot com.
Speaker 7 (01:21:28):
You know, Sunburst shutters can help you with all your
shutter needs in any room of your house, whether it's
the bedroom, the living room, the kitchen, it doesn't matter.
Sunburn shutters looks gorgeous in all of those rooms. But
not only does it look gorgeous, it helps with energy
bills as well, because when you close up your Sunburst
shutters and you close the lovers, you create that dead
(01:21:49):
air space between the glass and the living space of
your home. And what does that do? That makes your
house more comfortable because you don't have to heat and
cool dead space. It's right against that glass. Where you
really feel it is in the cold weather. But you
know in the summer months, any place where you're feeling
cold weather, in the cool months you're air conditioning, you're
(01:22:12):

I'm pretty good and drinking big.
Speaker 7 (01:22:54):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvements, your total home
improvement source. Tell you what. I got a second here
where I don't have any calls sitting, So I'm gonna
bring up a subject. And that's a passing livestock show
in Rodeo, because I've got a banquet dinner coming up
on February twentieth, and we are raising funds for building
(01:23:16):
a new agbarn. And I don't bring stuff like this
up a whole lot on the show, but this one
is pretty near and dear to my heart because I've
been in a lot of different charity organizations and stuff,
but I don't know any of them that can help
the kind of numbers of people that they do, like
(01:23:37):
the Passing Livestock Show and Rodeo does with the funds
that they've got. And I just January first took over
as president of the Rodeo, and we've been working on
this agbarn expansion for about a year and a half. Now.
We're taking our existing thirty thousand square foot agbarn and
gonna replace it with a sixty thousand square foot so
(01:24:00):
we can bring more school districts in to help more students.
And you know, the kind of things that that these
students walk away with is stuff that we really don't
teach well in the schools anymore, like responsibility. Oh yeah,
you got to do your homework and all that stuff.
But when they go through an ad program like the
(01:24:20):
Passing Livestock Show and Rodeo supports, they're in charge of
raising animals, showing these animals, taking care of these animals,
and so these are work traits that go into the
real world. You're responsible for something, you got to be
there on time, you got to be there every morning,
(01:24:41):
whether whether you feel good or not. Different things like that,
and so it transfers into being just a great way
for kids to learn responsibilities. Well, as part of this,
the that banquet that we're going to be having, I've
got a table there and I'm going to have six
(01:25:02):
seats available at the table, and if you would like
to sit at my table, they're going to go for
a premium. The tables are one thousand dollars apiece. I'm
doing one thousand dollars per chair at my table. The
money goes straight to the organization, but you'll have the
opportunity to sit there. I can answer questions for you,
and if we don't get everything done that you want
(01:25:23):
to talk about that night, you'll now know who I
am and we're able to talk further and get things
taken care of for you. So if you're interested in
doing that, go to our website tchipro dot com. You'll
see the ask Jim button. When you go there, shoot
me an email. I will personally call you back and
make arrangements where you can be at the banquet with
(01:25:45):
me on February twentieth, That is a Thursday night, So
take a look at it, but I would appreciate it.
With that being said, why don't we jump into what's
probably gonna be our last call of the day. Jim,
this is Jim. How can I help you?
Speaker 19 (01:25:59):
Hey, Jim, this is Jim.
Speaker 25 (01:26:00):
I love your name.
Speaker 31 (01:26:02):
You got a question for you. I am painting a
bathroom right.
Speaker 24 (01:26:07):
Now, and it had wallpaper in it.
Speaker 31 (01:26:09):
And I was always told you try to take off
the wallpaper and if you can't take it off, just paint.
Speaker 24 (01:26:13):
Over it and backle it.
Speaker 14 (01:26:16):
So uh, and I am not.
Speaker 23 (01:26:17):
A painter by any stretch of the imagination.
Speaker 31 (01:26:20):
So I started to peel some of the wallpaper off
and it came off really good.
Speaker 2 (01:26:26):
But it wasn't all.
Speaker 14 (01:26:27):
The wallpaper it was.
Speaker 19 (01:26:28):
It was the.
Speaker 31 (01:26:30):
Manila type of paper behind the wallpaper that's not coming off,
But it seemed like it was sticking to the wall.
I primed over it and it started bubbling everywhere.
Speaker 7 (01:26:40):
Okay, which is not uncommon.
Speaker 14 (01:26:42):
What can I do? Okay?
Speaker 7 (01:26:44):
Basically basically what you have to do when when you
put that primer sealer on it. I tell you what,
let me take this real quick break. I'm gonna put
you on hold for just a minute. We'll finish it
up when we come right back with more Texas Hall improvement.

Speaker 7 (01:29:25):
All right, here we are, We're back. I'm talking with
Jim and he's got a where he's pulled wallpaper off
in a bathroom. And so, Jim, the next process you've
already sounds like you already did. You went ahead and
primer sealed it and you got some bubbling. So typically
what you have to do after a bubbles that way,
cut the bubbles off with just your box cutter blade
(01:29:50):
and then use a little sheet rock mud to float
it out to get rid of the edges on that.
And if you've floated it out, you go ahead and
primer the whole thing again so that when you put
your final paints on, they're all balanced out the same.
(01:30:11):
Because if you got fresh sheet rock mud like that
and you got not uh, you got walls that were
previously painted or had other materials on, they just won't
have the same sheet So it is a little bit
of a process, you know, to to skim coat it
that way. But once you've done that, you don't have
to do anything else. And a lot of times what
(01:30:34):
people will do if the wallpaper won't come off, you
end up floating the joints that way it, you know,
the seams in the wallpaper and stuff. And then still,
you know, going ahead and primer sealing a second time,
and then you can do your texture and whatever else
you're gonna do before painting.
Speaker 31 (01:30:53):
Okay, Yeah, I was just worried because it was one
spot it bubbled in. It wasn't more than a quarter
and I had to take down three of you know,
it just came off. The wallpaper came off, you know,
and it was it was frustrating. I thought I was
going to be able to float around that little the
one spot that it just kept bubbling and bubbling the
more I did that. But it sounds like I'm doing
the right thing though, because I'm you are what you said.
Speaker 7 (01:31:16):
Yeah, but yeah, primer the whole thing with a primer sealer,
and that should show up then with all of the
bubbles like that, and then once you skim coat that afterwards,
you should be good to go.
Speaker 18 (01:31:30):
Perfect.
Speaker 23 (01:31:30):
Thank you so much, Jim.
Speaker 7 (01:31:32):
