Speaker 5 (01:30):
Hey.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Welcome to Texas Home Improvements, your total home improvement source.
I am Jim Dutton here to help you out. And
the home improvement question you have seven to one three
two one two, five eight seven four. Now today we
are broadcasting from the Pasadena Livestock Showing Rodeo. It's the
Barbecue cook Off this weekend next weekend. The rodeo starts

(01:53):
on Friday and runs through the twenty seventh. Uh So,
if you're looking for something to do tonight, man, you
cannot beat the weather out here. Yes, it's warm right now,
I get it. But in the evening time, as the
sun goes down, the temperatures go down. Come out have
some great barbecue. If you come by the SPS to
West cook Team, just tell them you heard it on

(02:15):
Texas Own Improvement. They'll let you in free of charge.
And there's all kinds of tents out here that'll let
you in, so uh, you don't have to worry about
finding a place to eat. Even the Rodeo itself. We
have a tent setup for the public to come in
and eat. And I say we because I'm currently the
president of the Passing Livestock Show on Rodeo, but I

(02:36):
couldn't give up doing the show, so you're gonna have
to suffer with me broadcasting. And we do this every
year where we broadcast from the livestock show and from
the Rodeo itself, So the same number is still going
to be used seven one three, two one two five
eight the seven four. But I've got a guest with

(02:56):
me today. I've got Alex Mieler. Now did I pronounce
that right?

Speaker 5 (03:03):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (03:03):
Thank you? And Alex, you're going to be running for Congress.

Speaker 5 (03:08):
That's right. So race is well under way and excited
about the opportunity.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
Now a lot of people say because every once in
a while I will have people on who run for office,
and people, of course, their first question to me is
always what the heck does that have to do with
home improvement? And what a lot of people don't realize
is our whole way of life is dictated by the
things that are around us here in the Houston area,

(03:37):
and politicians have a lot to say with what happens
in our lives, whether we believe it or realize it.
So I like to talk with people as far as
what they're going to be looking at doing and some
of the big items that a lot of times we
don't think about in the political realm is where we

(04:03):
make our money, the ship channel, things that NASA does.
We all think of Texas as oil and gas only,
and it's far from it. What district are you looking
at running in? I mean, with all this new registrict team,
where are you going to be?

Speaker 5 (04:17):
So thanks for having me on and for folks that
don't remember, I want to make clear I am actually
not a politician running for office, but background, my name
is Alex Mueler. I ran against Lena Hidalgo, was very
vocal in opposing the high property taxes in Harris County.
In my background, I'm a West Point or combat vet,

(04:38):
was in the Army bomb squad and then very different
than most that are trying to be politically active. Spent
my private sector career working oil and gas finance.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
Okay, so you're familiar with the oiling.

Speaker 5 (04:51):
They're very familiar. So worked on primarily oil field services,
but worked on some project finance you know, traditional capital mark.
It's M and a advisory. But I spend my days
and make my paycheck looking at Excel spreadsheets and so
very aware of kind of that regulatory cost and as
well as you know and my family. Unfortunately, we have

(05:14):
January circled because that's when the big tax bill comes.
You know, my property taxes in Harris County went up
twenty percent this year. Yep, the last five years, my
home insurance is doubled. And I only bring this up
because I would venture to say that that's pretty representative
of what most of your visitors have experienced as well,
except I think if you're here in East Harris County

(05:36):
you've probably had even more aggressive home insurance increases.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
Oh the yeah, if you live along the coast, it's horrendous.
What's happening.

Speaker 5 (05:45):
And to get back to your question, so most viewers
probably familiar that we smashed the map about a month ago.
So districts you might as well just think of a
sand table shaking. But so Texas nine lies largely in
what was Sylvia Garcia's Texas twenty nine, Okay, and then
added doctor Babin's up all of Liberty County. So if

(06:10):
you go from second ward through Deer Park along the
Ship Channel and then to the outside of Lake Houston
split Baytown with Doctor Babin, and then outside of Lake
Houston Huffman Crosby and then all of Liberty County. So
it's an amalgamation. It has the number Texas nine nine,

(06:31):
which was al green, but doesn't really share any borders
of what that old ninth district was. Okay, so it's
a bit a bit confusing. And my website Alexandramueller dot
com later today, if tomorrow at the latest, we'll have
an updated map where you can check it out.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
Well, you probably want to spell that then.

Speaker 5 (06:50):
So Alexandra A l e x A N d R
A space Meller m E A L e R, but
google Alex Mueller website will pop right up outlines kind
of key issues where I stand, as well as we'll
make sure to have that convenient district map.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
Well, let's talk about a couple of the big items
in our area, because and it sounds like one of
them is going to be right in your area, and
that's the ship.

Speaker 5 (07:14):
Channel hard to miss. So I would argue ship Channel, port,
Crown Jewels not only of Texas, but the entire United States.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
There you go.

Speaker 5 (07:24):
And so just for scale, you're talking about twenty percent
of Texas GDP over a million jobs and you know,
three million jobs across the country, just direct contribution from
this economic muscle.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
And like I said, most people think of US as
just oil and gas, but that's that's a huge chunk
of the economy there, know.

Speaker 5 (07:48):
In all the industrial you know, businesses that go with it.
My husband and I just started an industrial gas business
completely dependent on the ship Channel health. You know, you've welders,
anybody involved in this industrial region and it all stems
from the largest port in the country.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
So as a congress person, what can you do to
help the ship channel?

Speaker 5 (08:16):
Yep? I think the biggest thing is making the case
to sort of frankly the DC Swamp that we have
not been adequately taken care of. And that's from the
Biden administration era. So this was, like I said, Sylvia
Garcia representing, she did a lot for workers' rights. But
the best thing you can do for anyone in a
solid job to make sure their companies are doing well

(08:40):
so that they can pay higher wages. And what do
we need? We need to make sure that we have
a port that is competitive on water depth. So even
in Texas Freeport Corpus Christi, they all have deeper ports
than us. We're sub fifty feet, which means we're limiting
the cargo traffic that's causing delays, causing jobs. And you
can drive around in anywhere in this region and you're

(09:03):
going to see the heavy haul traffic jammed up, tearing
up our roads. And so my goal is, you know,
first priority, solid vote for Trump, and I think that's
not really a distinguisher in this race, and anyone running
the Republican primary is going to be pro pro jobs,
pro Trump's economy. But the differentiators what can you do

(09:24):
for this district? And so I really want to work
to target infrastructure funding. How can this role as a
federal role be used to support your local leaders that
you've already elected. They know where the critical roadways are,
what are the bottlenecks to growth, and really use this

(09:44):
seat not just to benefit the officeholder, but how does
that seat really do what it's meant to do and
strengthen the district. And so have been pretty unapologetic on
the need to target infrastructure funding and making that case
because it doesn't make sense with how we quite literally
fuel the economy of the country. We should have the

(10:04):
most competitive poor, we should have the most competitive roadways.
And so while this has the crown jewels of the
whole country, there's also a Pandora's box of infrastructure challenges
and it takes somebody that has the right skill set
to tackle that. And from having run from County judge,
I was acutely aware of those challenges and was so

(10:27):
excited to see an opportunity that while they've just created
a Republican seat, can get somebody in with the right
priorities because the county has failed us. You know, they
have a multi billion dollar budget, and the Biden administration
failed us, and now there's a chance to treat the
port in the ship Channel as the real assets they
are for the country.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
Well, and you're talking about the transporting of things, you know,
one of the things where I happen to have an
office on two twenty five, you're talking about a bottleneck.
I mean, it's nothing but cargo trucks going by day in,
day out, and the traffic is getting so bad that

(11:07):
you can't expand the port a whole lot more unless
you take care of.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
That road completely agree, and it really is a safety
hazard as well. Yeah, so I think most people familiar
on the county Judge Race, me being a strong advocate
of public safety, very excited that have all, you know,
every major law enforcement in the region backing my race.
But and will always be a great friend to law enforcement.

(11:31):
But when you talk about public safety, having all of
this heavy haul traffic kind of intermixed with our residential
everyone living here, we've got us start figuring out how
to move these cargo trucks in and out more safely.
That's all aligned. And so that's what I was just
so excited about this district. Like the issues that I
care most about and think that I have a unique

(11:52):
skill set to tackle are the issues that really matter
most in this district.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
All Right, we're gonna have to take it real quick.
Break when we come back.

Speaker 5 (12:01):
I'd like it when we break, Does that mean we
get to get food out of a barbecue? Because ill
that it sounded pretty After we're.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
Done, we'll get you some barbecues, thank you. But when
we come back. One of the things I do want
to ask you about something that's probably outside your district,
but it's gonna affect the area a lot, and that's
NASA because there's some heavy things coming up on it
as well. Great, we'll be right back. Hey, let me
talk real quick about Southern front Doors. Look, if you're

(12:29):
looking for a front door for your place, Southern front Door.
If you're looking for a side door, Southern front Doors
can help you as well. I've talked with Southern front
Doors several times. Been My wife heard me talking to him,
and she wants to know how soon I'm going to
take her over so she can pick out new front
doors for our house as we're doing some remodeling. But

(12:50):
nothing sets your house apart like a beautiful front door.
So why not go to Southern front Doors take a look.
They got over one hundred and eighty doors on display
in their showroom. They got a great website that you
can get to by going to thchipro dot com and
clicking on the link for Southern front Doors, or call them.

(13:11):
They come out to your house as well. And let
me tell you when when it comes down to have
the door put in, you want Southern front Doors people
to put it in. They're full time and experts at it.
Two eight one eight nine zero fifty eight sixty let's
head over to Fort Worth and Gary. Thank you, Jim
on your head there.

Speaker 6 (13:31):
Ready Seal. I've got some garage doors. I put it
on about two years ago. It works great. The ready
Seal looks just as good as it did today.

Speaker 4 (13:38):
I put it on. Ready Seal. You know, spray it on,
roll it on, brush it on. You don't have to
worry about laps or streaks, runs, any of that stuff
because of the way it's soaks deep down into the
wood fibers. It takes care of all of it. And
it's available everywhere. But find a store nearest to you.
Go to readyseal dot com. Hey, let's talk about do

(13:59):
West air conditioning. If you're having an air conditioning problem,
call a company that you can trust, my company. We'll
come out, we'll check your air conditioning system, get it
working again. And look, we're not there to sell you
a new one. We're there to fix what you've got. Now.

needed to one, call us for a second opinion first
seven one three four seven three seven one five six.

(14:22):
When you want the best, call du West.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
We know, and believe me, we know. There are lots
of roopers out there. But there's only one company that
has the gem Dutton staff of approval for over fourteen years,
and that's Guardian roof Systems. Whether you need a whole
new root.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
Or just a repair.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
And if a storm blows through the Houston area, don't
you dare let one of those storm chasing joe bag
of donuts roopers sell you a bank of goods called
Guardian roof Systems Today at two eight one four oh
seven seventy two eighty. I go to thchifro dot com
and click the link to Guardian roof Systems. Guardian roof Systems.

Speaker 4 (14:56):
USA Insulation. You know I had my house insulated by
USA Insulation because they retrofit the walls with foam insulation
and let me tell you, it lowered my energy bills,
made the house a whole lot quieter and just all
around more comfortable. Call USA Insulation at four zero nine
three one six ninety nine fifty seven. That's four zero

(15:20):
nine three one six ninety nine fifty seven for USA Insulation.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
Texas Home Improvement is saddened by the death of Charlie
Kirk and we stand with all Texans against senseless violence.
Let's keep our homes strong. Here's more Texas Home Improvement
with Jim Dutton.

Speaker 4 (15:47):
Welcome back to Texas Home Improvement. And that's such a
tragedy to have something like that happened. I mean, I
will tell you my kid. My sons are younger, and
he he was one of the guys that they would follow.
They don't typically follow old guys like me anymore. They're
following the younger people. And one of my sons out,

(16:12):
you actually were in the military. What branch were you in?

Speaker 5 (16:15):
I was in the Army serve.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
Okay. My son, who was a Marine, served two tours
overseas and it really affected him and then he.

Speaker 5 (16:27):
Watched I think for a lot of veterans it brought
back those memories of friends that we had that were
committed to service. And for those that didn't see Erica
Kirk's remarks last night, not a lot of dry eyes,
but just thinking about those kids that now have lost
their father. Aside from what we all lost, someone really

(16:50):
being at the forefront and an advocate for America first
and what America should be. I've noticed and just talking
with a few friends, it's just brought up some of
our friends that were lost in their kids that don't
have their fathers or their grandma grandfather that have. It
just hits such a ripple throughout, but was incredibly impressive

(17:13):
the strength employs that she showed. And make no mistake,
she's going to be a powerhouse and his message is
going to reach farther than it.

Speaker 4 (17:22):
After got on the news this morning, yep, so I
mentioned before we went to break NASA because there's a
lot going on right now with the fight for where's
NASA going to be headquarters.

Speaker 5 (17:37):
It wasn't too excited to see Space Force going to Alabama.
Nothing nice right here, So you know, want to be
the best ally that I can with doctor Babin. I
think he's really set the standard in Congress. Obviously doesn't
take a long starting to run in this new district
to understand how beloved he is. But it's important to

(17:57):
work well with the delegation and really flex the might
of our region, not just your district, because there is
a huge power graph going underway and it's been frustrating
to see the Florida delegation rise in prominence. We are Texas,
we lead, and we're the leading delegation and that's a
big part of my message is Listen, I've got the

(18:19):
port Ship Channel. I'm going to sit back and just
take scrapes, yeap, when we're quite literally the economic engine
of the country. And here's all the reasons too. When
you start all of our delegation working together, which I'm
excited when you put up doctor Babin with Ellington and
NASA and port Ship Channel and we get aligned and frankly,
you know, leadership is in Louisiana and we're very interconnected

(18:42):
just with the petrochemical and the oil and gas. Let's
start working with the Louisiana delegation and keep this Gulf
Coast region.

Speaker 4 (18:50):
Strong well, much like we were talking about on the
ship Channel a few minutes ago, how the stuff that
comes through the port here affects the whole current. The
whole world already views Houston as the NASA headquarters. Uh,
why would they even think about setting it up somewhere
else is beyond me. But that does mean a lot

(19:12):
more jobs in this area as well.

Speaker 5 (19:15):
For sure. And what you know, you touched upon it
as well, you know, with now those kind of new
space industrial revolution, you know, getting outside of oil and
gas manufacturing.

Speaker 3 (19:24):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (19:25):
But if we can stay competitive and attract those other
kind of downstream of space where we're building more of
the equipment. Having those good incentives. San Jack obviously will
play a big role with the trades, but really brandishing
us as the one stop shop for that. So the
port obviously supports with getting some like key equipment in,

(19:47):
but we should be We now have the stock exchange
in Dallas, right, we have the business courts, so you
don't have to go to Delaware. You know, let's build
out the full UH system. And we're doing that where
no one else can compete. And so I think a
lot of interesting opportunities. But being the go to spot

(20:11):
for space makes sense, and everybody in the region, especially
in the congressional delegation, should be fighting for that, regardless
of even a party affiliation.

Speaker 4 (20:21):
Well, and I know the rest of the country doesn't
realize this, but even a lot of us here in
Texas don't understand just how large the economy of Texas
is to the entire world. We're larger than I think.

Speaker 5 (20:35):
We're I think we're eighth of the right as a.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
State, we're number eight in the.

Speaker 5 (20:39):
World, and then we would be just this Texas ninth district,
So not even including doctor Babin, we would be the
GDP size of Saudi Arabia. So just think about that,
and so how are we not more competitive? And that's
my point. Is very proud of what we are in Texas,
and I think it's been forgotten. And that's a nice

(21:01):
thing of this now becoming a Republican seat. It's a
good opportunity. And we have a receptive administration. This isn't
Biden that just wants to do tax credits for windmills.
This is an administration that is trying to usher in
a golden age, cares about jobs first and foremost. Well,
if you care about jobs, what other district in Congress
generates three.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
Million jobs exactly?

Speaker 5 (21:21):
So that was the exciting opportunity and Obiah get there.

Speaker 4 (21:25):
So well, I'm down to thirty seconds before we got
to take a news, traffic and weather break. Here, let's
put out your website again. Yep.

Speaker 5 (21:32):
Please go to Alexandrimuller dot com. Great video with me
and Mattress Mac and learn more about my priorities. But
sign up, send out weekly emails, keep things updated, very
active social media to follow me on ex Alex Mueller
Texas and appreciate the opportunity.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
Jim Hey, thanks for stopping by and talking with us
here at the Passing Livestock Show on Rodeo and on
Texas Home Improvement. With that, we got to take a break.
We'll be back with more Texas Home Improvement. Let's talk
real quick about Americans standards. You know, American Standard Air
has been my choice in air conditioning systems for years.
I put the first one in my own house back

(22:07):
in nineteen ninety nine, loved it, and ever since then
my house has had American standard air conditioning systems in it.
Why because, I mean they're recognized for excellence for performance, reliability,
customer satisfaction. So take care of your family all year
long with American standard air. In American standard technology, it

(22:28):
meets the ever changing Texas weather head on. So keep
your home cool and humidity free, but be ready for
a little heat when you need it. Invest wisely and
invest in the home comfort system that will lasts you
a long, long time comfort the way you like it.
That's American Standardair dot com. And look when you're looking

(22:49):
at American standard heating and air conditioning systems, make sure
you check out that variable speed that is ultimate humidity control.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
Dutton is like a cool drink of water out of
the garden hose.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
You know that was just gross.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
Here's more with Jim on Texas Home Improvement.

Speaker 4 (23:11):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvement your total Home
Improvement source seven one three two point two five eight
seven four. I am broadcasting today from the Passing Livestock
Show and Rodeo, and uh, I do want to encourage
everybody come on out for the barbecue cookoff. That's what's
taking place this weekend. And the gates open for the

(23:33):
cookoff at well, basically five o'clock. I mean the gates
are open now, but uh start coming five o'clock or so.
There's all kinds of places you can eat out here.
If you stop by the SPS Due West cook team
on Midway, just tell them you heard it on Texas
Home Improvement, they'll let you in. Uh there's other places

(23:53):
that will let you in as well. It's it's just
a lot of fun out here. Was out here last
night as well. And you know, once the sun starts
settling just a little bit, the temperatures were great. You
just can't complain. So just my two cents for the
barbecue cookoff, all right, Paul in Missouri City. I appreciate

(24:17):
you calling back in Paul. How can I help you?

Speaker 3 (24:21):
Thanks you, Jim. I've got a new house now. I
wanted to talk to you about the electronic water treatment
antidscaler thing. Okay, So where's the optimum place to install
that to treat the whole house.

Speaker 4 (24:38):
Usually it's on the incoming water near the water heater,
so that it's taken care of all of all, it's
taken care of both sides that way.

Speaker 3 (24:51):
Gotcha, Well, my water line it comes in through the
wall in the garage, comes down through the floor, goes
into the wall which is sheet rocked in and everything,
and then I'm not sure the exact routing goes up
the wall and I don't know the routing. But then

(25:11):
you go to the front of the garage. On the
opposite side is where the hot water heater is. Okay,
so you've got a line exposed. They're going to the
hot water. If you hooked it up there with that
treat the whole house though.

Speaker 4 (25:26):
Well, as long as there's no faucets tying in on
the cold side, which I don't think there would be
before it gets there, I can tell you I have
one at the townhouse and it's in the attic on
the second floor. So same thing. The water comes in,

(25:49):
it goes all through everything up to the second floor
and then on up into the attic before I have
it hooked up and it takes care of everything as
long as it's on before it starts going to the fixtures.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
Yeah, well, I'm thinking I don't know that. I'm thinking
that the water line's gonna come in and the cold's
gonna tee off and head towards the kitchen and the
upstairs bathroom.

Speaker 4 (26:22):
Typically it's not gonna do that. It's it's typically going
to Uh, they're not gonna they're typically not bringing the
water in from two different directions for hot and cold.

Speaker 3 (26:39):
Okay, Well, I mean, but uh, the water line comes
in at the front of the garage, right and at
the back of the garage next to the residence. Then
on the opposite side is a tankless water heater. Okay,
and there's a line exposed there where you could wrap
those wires around the thing. But I you know, I'm concerned,

(27:01):
like you're saying that it already would be tee offs
if you put it there, am I thinking? Right?

Speaker 4 (27:11):
Well, like I say, normally they're not teeing off and
running your cold water from one direction and your hot
water from another direction. They usually kind of follow each other, okay,
and come off of a main line. Now you can
if you wanna where the water comes in. I mean,

(27:34):
you can cutch a sheet rock and tie it in
in the garage there and catch it just as it's
coming into the house. There's nothing wrong with doing that.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
Yeah, that's just a lot more work, you know. That's
if that's the optimal way to do it, then that's it.
But it's a lot more work.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (27:54):
Yeah, did I hear you say your your plumbing company
installs those we do? Okay? Uh, can I get you guys?
If I call a come out and give me any
instrument to do it?

Speaker 4 (28:07):
Has worked absolutely. Give the office at du West Plumbing
a call at seven to one three four seven three
seven one five six and they'll come out take a
look at it. And uh, you know, there's no charge
to come out and look at it to tell you
what it'll take to put it in.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
Thank you, sir. I'll give you a called one or Paul.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
I appreciate it, and you have a good afternoon, you too.

Speaker 3 (28:33):
Sir, Thank you.

Speaker 4 (28:37):
John. This is Jim. How can I help you?

Speaker 6 (28:40):
Hey, Jim, I really appreciate your your thoughts and being
the foundation expert you are. I just wanted to get
some general thoughts on what it would take to raise
the foundation rather than being on a slab raising it up.
I don't know, I have it many feet to get
the maybe some sorr floodline or some say five feet

(29:00):
up in the air or whatever. Just general thoughts you
have on describing the process to go from a slab
to a bringing it up into the air and put
peers I guess of some nature and then just generally speaking,
or is it like twice as much, five as much,
ten times as much as just fixing a foundation? Just

(29:23):
anything you can share on the process going from a
flab to raising the foundation up into the air.

Speaker 4 (29:29):
Okay? And is this an existing house yes? Or its
building new? I'm sorry, John, I lost you there for
a second.

Speaker 6 (29:42):
Okay, I'm sorry, it's an existing house.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
Okay. Why would you not just underpin the foundation and
raise the whole thing?

Speaker 6 (29:49):
Then help me out under in the foundation. That is
that putting peers, just putting piers.

Speaker 4 (29:59):
Putting, Yeah, put piers. The under the existing slab, and
we can literally raise the whole thing up out of
the waters that way, and you don't have to rebuild
the whole house then. And I will tell you that
I did the first slab raising that we did like

(30:20):
that back in well, let's see, it would have been
thirty five years ago and the Navy. This was out
in Taylor Lake Village, and the house next door was
flooding as well. Now, the house I did had water
coming in over the countertops on a kind of regular basis,

(30:44):
and so we raised that slab and everything nine and
a half feet in the air. The house next door
did it the way you were talking about, where they
left the slab down, but raised the whole framework and
built a new floor inside and everything. And it was
substantially higher than just raising the foundation.

Speaker 6 (31:07):
Okay, okay, So when when you raise it like what
you're describing, because I'm sure I didn't describe it well,
because what you're saying is what I was really looking
on too, or at least thinking about. So if you
to raise it, let's just say five ft nine feet,
ten feet whatever. Yeah, you just keep jack and jack
and jacket, and then do you put big posts to

(31:27):
support it more.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
Well, the first thing we do is drive piling under
pre cast concrete piles, and then we use those to
lift the foundation and we yes, we just start lifting
it and for going one that you're going, you know,
four or five feet like that, we bring in what's
called a union lift system and it will lift. Uh well,

(31:53):
there's some that lift eighteen inches, some that lifts three
feet at a time, and so literally it's aren't raising it.
We recrib everything underneath, secure it, reset and raise it
again until we get it up to the height that
it needs to be at.

Speaker 6 (32:11):
Okay, Okay, then it's just amazing. So I'm sorry, go
ahead and keep it.

Speaker 5 (32:15):
Well.

Speaker 4 (32:15):
Then then you depending on where the house is, whether
it's in a floodway or flood zone, then we can
build around the perimeter. Because if you're in a flood
way then they won't let you put walls and stuff
like that. They want to leave it where it's open
so the water can flow underneath. But if you're just

(32:37):
in a flood zone, you can actually put decorative walls
around the base. And normally what we use is cut blocks,
so it's got kind of a like a rock type
cut face on it on the on the blocks and
it gives it a nice finished look. And I had
one that we did where they wanted to maintain using

(33:01):
the same garage and everything. So I literally built a
bridge going up into their garage so they'd come off
the road, off their driveway and right up into the
existing garage, so their car and everything was up out
of the floodwaters.

Speaker 6 (33:16):
You know, you raise another great point that with this
is has an attached garage?

Speaker 4 (33:21):
Yep?

Speaker 6 (33:22):
Would you have to you have to have a bridge?

Speaker 4 (33:25):
You don't have to to get to it. You would
have to. But what truthfully, what most people do is
build a separate garage and turn the existing garage into
living space.

Speaker 6 (33:38):
Gotcha. Yeah, yeah, that seemed like to be a love
than trying to have an a foot ramp or something
like that from exactly you know, your.

Speaker 4 (33:47):
Wife wanted a bigger living room.

Speaker 6 (33:48):
Anyways, Okay, that's a good point, well, very good and
is it?

Speaker 2 (33:54):
So?

Speaker 6 (33:54):
It is it usually priced by the foot how high
you wanted to go. Well, it's roughly by the square
foot of the size of the house, but there are
some variables that plug into it.

Speaker 4 (34:09):
And uh so, I mean, realistically, we can come out
and give you a price for free. We don't charge
to get pricing on it.

Speaker 6 (34:18):
Okay, okay, very good. Well, just I appreciate your time
helping me kind of think through it because it didn't
flood with Harvey, but it came close to flooding, and
I'm just thinking, well maybe.

Speaker 4 (34:30):
Well and you know, depending on where you're at, depending
on where it's at, what kind of flooded area it's in,
we'll dictate how high it's got to go.

Speaker 6 (34:39):
I got that. Okay. And then when you're when you
do your inspection or whatever, you say, hey, yeah.

Speaker 4 (34:46):
We get all the information and then we can put
all that together.

Speaker 6 (34:51):
Okay, very good, what Jim. I appreciate your information much. Okay,
all right.

and drinking big. Welcome back to Texas home improvement, Cindy.
How can I help you today?

Speaker 8 (39:46):
I damn thanks for taking my call, my pleasure, yester.
I have a question about a front, a concrete front porch.
I have an older country home was painting about twenty
years ago, and it's chipping and cracking. Could you give
me any ideas how to make this warmer looking or
nicer looking?

Speaker 4 (40:08):
Well typically, you know, I'm out passing livestock showing rodeo,
and we had a front porch here that's like that.
And what we did had a contractor, well, one of
our volunteers. He came in pressure washes the whole thing
to peel off anything that's loose, and then you'll put
a sealer coat down and you literally can paint it

(40:29):
again and get another however many years out of it.

Speaker 8 (40:32):
All right, that's pretty easy. I have a second question
about some cedar shutters that we put on and we
stained them an oak, a natural oak, so it came
out to two orange looking two orange colored? How is
there a way to tone that down?

Speaker 4 (40:47):
Though? You would have to sand it off and redo it?

Speaker 8 (40:51):
Okay, we put two coats of yeah stain on it. Actually,
did you say we could paint it?

Speaker 4 (40:57):
Well, you could paint it, Yes, you could painted, but
you definitely can't tone it down. And I hate to
do this to you, but that music meant I've got
to take a break again. I kind of ran over
last time.

Speaker 8 (41:08):
Pretty bet, thank you, by bye.

Speaker 4 (41:10):

Speaker 4 (44:09):
Hey, welcome back, and David, you will be the last
call of the day. How can I help you?

Speaker 2 (44:16):
Yim this said, I don't need any help. I'm just
following up on a question that you had last weekend.

Speaker 6 (44:21):
Okay, I couldn't get in.

Speaker 2 (44:22):
Somebody called. Somebody called and said that there was whistling
when they flushed their toilet. Yeah, and he flushed it.
And you said you had never heard that before, Yes, sir, well,
I kind of. I kind of had the same problem.
I replaced my ball flapper and it wouldn't quit Lincoln.
So I went and bought a new Uh. It was

(44:44):
fluid Master flushing in Taint Pleasure, and it started making
that whistling sound whenever I'd flush the toilet. So I
called their helpline and what they told me was that
tube has to be a certain height above the overflow,

(45:07):
and my overflow to just has a hole in it.
So I just put it in there, and that's what
it was. Put that clip on there that came with it, yep,
and put it in there, like they said, an inch
above the water level. Uh huh, get quit.

Speaker 4 (45:23):
I'll be darned I would not. I definitely would not
have guessed that.

Speaker 6 (45:30):
Well.

Speaker 2 (45:30):
I never would have either, because I've always put that
little over I mean, you know that it fills the
toilet in that hole. Okay, they told me. I guess
with the new design or whatever. But yep, so it
needs to be an inch above the water level.

Speaker 4 (45:46):
Well, David, I appreciate you calling in and giving that
to me.

Speaker 2 (45:51):
I enjoyed talking to you.
