Welcome back to or welcome back, Welcome to Texas Home Improvements,
your total home improvement source. Not quite broadcasting from the
Dutton Ranch today. Last weekend, I was up in Minnesota.
This weekend, I'm in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, up here for EAA
Air Venture, the Experimental Aircraft Association's air show. And it
(01:56):
actually kicks off on Monday. But to get a good
camping spot and I camp up here, Uh, you gotta
come early. The place fills up like it's unreal. Forty
five thousand camping spots here. And oh last year, six
hundred and eighty five thousand people went through the show.
Over ten thousand airplanes came in here and landed. I mean,
(02:20):
it's just a busy, busy place. In fact, for the
week of the air show, this is the busiest airport
in the world, if that gives you any indication. But regardless,
I'm still here to take calls and answer questions. So
if you got a question seven one three, two, one two,
five eight seven, four is the number to call that
(02:42):
seven one three, two one two five eight seven four.

a look at the TV show as well. In fact,
(03:49):
I believe it's on right now from two to three.
So uh, anyways, I'm here to take calls and answer questions.
So seven one three two one two five eight seven
four is the number to call that seven one three,
two one two five eight seven four any home improvement question,
Pick up the phone, give me a call, and let's
(04:10):
see what we can do about it. Here on Texas
Home Improvement, your Total Home Improvement source. You guys picked
the topics by calling in and that every caller can
have a new topic. So seven one three two one
two five eight seven four. Now I will tell you
a minute ago, there was a World War two airplane
(04:32):
that took off. Now, most of the planes today are
coming in landing, but this plane took off, and as
this this World War two bomber took off, and you
know it's got four engines going on it, he made
a hard bank to the right. Oh it looked cool
as heck seeing some of those old birds still going
(04:53):
that way. All right, I'm gonna jump into an email
question here. This comes from Kathy and says, we have
lived in our home for seventeen years, and in the
last month or so, when I turn on my washer
or when I flush toilets, we have a high pitched noise.
(05:14):
Is this something I should be concerned about, and who
would you recommend I call to inspect it. Well, the
fact that it's happening in multiple places tells me you
probably have a water softener, a filtration system, something that's
got a washer on it, and it could even be
(05:38):
in the shut off valve to the house itself. And
the indication is that it's on the cold water side
because the toilets don't use hot water. And so I
think what's happening is you just got a washer that's
gone bad and as the water is or it can
be an old ring as well, but as the water
squeaks by it, it literally is squeaking on you. Now,
(06:02):
sometimes they'll turn into a thump where it'll start da
da da dada da. But if it's just squeaking, yeah,
it's it's just a squeal of Any plumber should be
able to trace it down and help you find where
it's at and replace that washer, uh or old ring
or whatever it is it's doing it. So it shouldn't
(06:24):
be a huge deal. But it's going to be at
either cutoff valve or a filtration system, a water softener,
something that's got old rings and valves in it, so
that that's uh, and, like I said, should be able
to contact any plumber to be able to get that
(06:48):
taken care of. Again, if you've got a question seven
one three, two one two five eight seven four, and
I'll see what I can do to help you out
here on tech this home improvement. Let's see, this is
(07:10):
kind of a common question here. Linda in Kingwood sent
me an email. We have two thirty year old air conditioners.
We are getting bids for new units. One man and
I'm not going to give the name of the company
he talked to, gave us a bid for fifteen thousand
(07:30):
for two units. Another company, again I'm not going to
give the name, gave us a bid for forty five
thousand and thirty thousand, saying that they would have to
replace all the wiring, pipes and thermostats. Then another company
gave us a bid for forty five thousand for two units,
(07:52):
and they didn't mention replacing anything. Can you give me
a respected and trusted AC company to talk with and
to get a bid for two units? What, in your
opinion is a fair price to replace two units? Thank
you very much, love your show. Well, look, I can't
give you what a fair price is to replace two units,
(08:13):
because I don't know what size units you need. I mean,
there is a difference between a needing a two ton
and a five ton. There's a difference on the ductwork
and different things as well as far as what's got
to be done. As far as replacing all the electric
the only electric typically that needs to be replaced would
(08:34):
be the whip going from the shut off to the
unit itself. Now traditionally those those get replaced. An electrician
is required, though, if you're going to have to replace
the wiring going to the unit, and I don't, I
don't really know why that would be the case. So
(08:58):
I think I think that person either there's a misunderstanding
on what they're wanting to do or they're just playing
trying to take advantage. That doesn't sound right. As far
as what are AC systems costing, well, a forty five
(09:20):
thousand and a thirty thousand.
Speaker 7 (09:23):
That is.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
To say the least that that's absurd. Now to do
the two units and be in the thirty to forty
five thousand range depending on the unit you go with
and stuff it could be there. I'm not saying that's
out of hand. As far as a trusted company give
(09:46):
my company a call to West Air Conditioning. You can
call us at seven to one three four seven three
seven one five six and we'd be more happy to
take a look at it. We're going to do a
eat load calculation to make sure you get in the
right size units and uh, you know, we'll give you
a price then based off that again, if you got
(10:10):
a question seven one three two one two five eight
seven four, we're in a head to Beaumont and Larry.
Welcome to Texas Home Improvement.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
Good afternoon. I just want to know what's to load
down on RUF Max.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
Well what do you want to know?
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Well, okay, uh does it well? First of all, of course,
does it work? And does it do what they say
about extending your roof? You know how wrong it is.
Mine is not that old and it's still in good shape.
But if this thing is worth it, I, you know,
might want to look into it. But I just need
someone that uh you know. I talked to my insurance guy.
(10:56):
He didn't know. I talked to some friends and never
heard of it, you know.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
So I have actually recommended it for some things. But
I'm seeing the TV commercials and stuff just like you are,
and those guys are way over selling the capabilities of
that product in our climate. You know, if you needed
something to get your roof through another say two years
(11:23):
or three years, I think it's it will do that.
But you know where they're promising that it's going to
add five, ten, even fifteen years to the life of
your route. No, it's not doing that.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
Well what what I mean? I know you probably don't
know the proprietary you know, chemicals, whatever, but what what
is the theory behind it? How does it get how
does it rejuvenate your shingles.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
The theory that they're working on, because I have looked
into it, is they spray the cam on. It soaks
into the asphalt and adds basically oils back into the
asphalt to extend the life of the roof. So if
your asphalt shingles are getting dry and starting to curl
(12:14):
on the edges and stuff, you know, at that point
they're saying it's too far gone. But if you can
get it before it starts to curl, it'll soak in
and add life to it. But you know the cost
of it is pretty substantial as well. So and that
music meant I need to take a break. I'm gonna
put you on hold for just a second. We'll be
(12:34):
right back. Let's talk James Hardy's setting. This is the
best siding on the planet. And I've checked into different
sidings as well, and yes, I know you've got a
lot of choices out there, but James Hardy's siding is
a cement based siding. Bugs aren't gonna eat it. It's
not gonna catch fire, it's not going to deteriorate and rot.
It's just solid there to stay and it holds paint
(12:58):
better than wood ever thought about. So if you're thinking
about siding for your home or business or office, whatever,
you need to take a look at some James Hardy siding.
You can go to our website thchipro dot com, click
on the link for James Hardysiding and start scrolling through
and imagine just how gorgeous your home could be. In fact,
(13:18):
drove buy a place with my wife just day before
yesterday where they had the bat type you know, with
the lines going up and down, a little bit of
lap siding mixed in and some wood shake. Gorgeous. It
truly is gorgeous. That's James Hardy's siding.
Speaker 8 (13:34):
Let's head over to Fort.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Worth and Garry.
Speaker 9 (13:36):
Thank you, Jim on your head there Ready Seal. I've
got some garage stores. I put it on about two
years ago.
Speaker 10 (13:42):
It works great. The ready Seal looks just as good
as it did today.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
I put it on a ready seal, you know, Spray
it on, roll it on, brush it on. You don't
have to worry about laps or streaks, runs any of
that stuff because of the way it soaks deep down
into the wood fibers. It takes care of all of it.
And it's available everywhere. But find a store near you.
Go to Readyseal dot com. Well. I mentioned Due West

Love it. It blocks all the air infiltration that you
felt in the winter months because your air conditioning's going
out that same way. And man, did it reduced my
energy bills. My last bill was one hundred and nineteen dollars.

Welcome to Texas Summer, the only state where your truck
overheats before you drive it. Here's Jim Ditton on Texas
Home Approofment.
Speaker 4 (15:48):
Hey, welcome back to Texas home improvement. You know, Tom
about your truck overheating before you drive it. I was
up in and you can look at where this is at.
But International Falls on Thursday morning it was forty two
degrees when I got up Thursday morning. Now International Falls
(16:09):
is on the border of Canada. And yes, it was
chilly to say the least, but hey, it's been it's
been gorgeous being up in the cooler temperatures, all right.
Seven one three two one two five eight seven four.
Any home improvement question you have, pick up the phone,
give me a call and I'll see what I can
(16:29):
do to help you out. When we left, I was
talking with Larry in Beaumont, and Larry there still you bet,
I think, oh there you are, okay.
Speaker 8 (16:39):
So.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
You know, on that product, I have no question that
it does do some of what they talk about. I
just think they're over selling how much it'll do. And
when I have looked into the cost of it, in
some cases it's half the cost of putting on a
new roof. And that doesn't to me pay for it.
(17:05):
You know, if it was ten percent of putting on
a new roof, it's to me it's worth doing.
Speaker 11 (17:10):
But Yeah, well that's what they make it get into
those kind of numbers.
Speaker 8 (17:14):
It's not.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Well, they make it sound like it's substantially cheaper, and
that's why I was curious, you know. But if you're saying,
you know, it's not exactly that.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
Way that I have not quote Honestly, the last time
I looked at the product was probably three maybe four
years ago. It was right after COVID, and they they
very well could have changed since then, but that's price
wise what I found back then.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Can I sneak at another question about free on in
the home and the home air conditioning units?
Speaker 4 (17:55):
I have absolutely no problem with that at all.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
You know, I've heard that the Trump EPA has backed
off of the regulation about this.
Speaker 7 (18:05):
Brand new.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Whatever you will call it coolant free on? Uh yes,
where does that stand as far as will the four
twenty two still be available or whatever?
Speaker 4 (18:20):
Yeah, the four to twenty two will be available for
decades and decades to come. Our twenty two is still
available and that's been done away with for how many
years already? So yeah, you've got nothing to worry about
as far as the availability of the of the old coolants.
As far as uh, you know, him doing away with
(18:44):
some of those regulations. You know, some people have been questioned,
will will the manufacturers go back? No, because they've already
tooled up for doing this, and they they don't want
to go back to doing something and then have the
uh change of administration the next one come in and say,
oh no, we're going back with you know, it's easier
(19:07):
for them to just stay tooled the way they are.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
Well, is the efficiency though, of this brand new stuff?
Is it? I mean, is it good?
Speaker 4 (19:18):
It is no more efficient than the previous one? In fact,
it may uh you know there their big reason is
for environmental purposes.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
Okay, all right, So as far as the efficiency of
cooling your house, there should be no change with the
new No.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
No, you're you're you're not really you're not going to
notice any difference on.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
That, okay, Okay, well, okay, I guess that's it. One
thing about that Refmex. One more thing though, the run off? Sure?
Uh is it bad for your your lawn and your
plants around the house?
Speaker 4 (20:01):
You know, I don't know. I never looked at it
for that, Okay, all right, but I would imagine it
you you would. I would probably recommend that you water
everything down real good after that, to rinse off as
much as you can and dilute it as much as
you can. But I also can't imagine them being able
(20:21):
to market it if it's gonna kill everything around your house.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
Yeah, it would be kind of a kink in the
old armor there. So okay, Yeah, thanks for your time.
I appreciate you taking my call.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
My pleasure. You take care, Larry, bye bye and again
our number seven one three two one two five eight

a quick break. We'll be right back with more Texas
Home Improvement seven one three, two one two five eight
seven four. Well, let's talk about American Standard heating and
(22:03):
air conditioning. You know, American Standard has been my choice
in air conditioners since nineteen ninety nine when I put
the first one in my house and it was a
single speed air conditioning system and it worked great. Now
I've sold that house over the years, but the house
I'm in now when I needed a new system, I
(22:24):
went in with another American Standard variable speed. Love it.
You're talking about ultimate humidity control. And the beautiful thing
about American Standard system is they're nationally recognized for excellence
for performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction. So take care of
your family all year long with American Standard and American

with the weird green water and the bubble. You are
listening to Texas Home Improvement with Jim Duntey.
Speaker 4 (23:18):
Let's ull go. Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvements.
Your total home improvement sour seven one three two one
two five eight seven four. That's seven one three two
one two five eight seven four. We're gonna head to
Northwest Houston. Robert, Welcome to Texas Home Improvement.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
Hey, how you doing wonderful?
Speaker 11 (23:44):
So the question I have is, I have a fifty
five year old house. It's a two story, and I've
got this one vent in the in the center of
the house that drips condensation or whatever through the AC
vent into my living room floor I have. I've got
(24:06):
blown in insulation up top. I got a new AC
system about five or six years ago. They redid all
of the ductwork above above the attic floor with flex duff.
I've got hard pipe that goes from you know, the
second floor addict down to the first floor vent. And
(24:32):
I was told not to put insulation in that in
that shaft, which I'm assuming that the condensation is getting
is because there is no insulation on that hard pipe
going from the attic to the vent. Uh. Is there
anything I can do to to stop that drip? I
(24:53):
mean it's rusting out my my a my vent cover.
Speaker 4 (24:59):
Okay? And does a hard pipe go all the way
down to that or is it?
Speaker 8 (25:05):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (25:06):
It turned into it gets there? Okay? Who told you
not to insulate it?
Speaker 7 (25:15):
Uh?
Speaker 11 (25:15):
One of the acy guys told me not to shove
I guess like that blown in insulation. Not to put
that in there. Maybe I need to to get some
regular pipe insulation and not pipe but hard hard pipe
insulation and wrap it around there and fly it down.
I don't, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (25:32):
Yeah, it it needs to have some type of insulation
on it because it will on satan sweat like heck,
if if you don't, because you got warm air meeting
cold air, it's gonna sweat and even codes require that.
Now are you sure that there's not some insulation on it?
Speaker 11 (25:54):
I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
I don't.
Speaker 11 (25:56):
I I tried to look at it a while and
it didn't look like there was any insulation. Maybe it
didn't come all the way to the top.
Speaker 4 (26:05):
I don't know, Yeah, and that could be and that
could also be the problem on the bottom that and
where they may be telling you don't stuff it in
there is because if it's got insulation around it, it
can be a insulated pipe that when you start shoving
other insulations in there, you compress it. Insulation doesn't work
(26:28):
as well when it's compressed, and because it needs that
dead air space within the insulation. But what happens a
lot of times where they tie on to the boot
to come through the sheet rock with the vent, the
insulation gets cut back and there's about a a anywhere
(26:48):
from a three to six inch section there that's uninsulated
and that's where it'll sweat and start dripping.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:57):
So I would actually at is take that vent off
and look up in the pipe and you won't be
able to see if there's insulation on the outside, but
you may be able to touch that pipe and tell
if there's insulation on the outside of it. Or when
you take the vent off, you can drill just a
(27:19):
quarter inch hole and go up to Lowser Home depot
get you one of those scope type cameras. I mean
they got them down to where they're you know, forty
bucks or so. Now that can hook even hook up
to your iPhone. Then stick that scupe in there and
see what's up in there. And if all it needs
is insulation around that pipe, you could literally use some
(27:44):
spray cans of like the great stuff to spray insulation
foam insulation in there around that can and seal it up.
Speaker 11 (27:53):
Yeah, okay, Yeah, It's the whole reason it's just confounding
me is it's in the center of the house where
I would assume it didn't get nearly as hot as
it would around the edge of the house. That the Yeah,
and none of the other ones do this. This is
like the only one that does it. And I'm like,
(28:14):
this is crazy.
Speaker 4 (28:15):
Yeah. From what you're describing to me, though, the way
that pipe comes down, it sounds like it'd be very
hard to access from the attic, and so it's likely
that the insulation around the bottom of it got pulled loose.
Speaker 5 (28:31):
Yeah, yeah, very very possible.
Speaker 11 (28:34):
Okay, all right, Well that I'll probably go get me
one of those cameras and see what I can see.
Speaker 4 (28:39):
So and you're you're gonna find that those things are
great for a whole lot of other stuff too.
Speaker 6 (28:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (28:46):
Yeah, I've actually thought about getting one prior to this
for some other stuff and just never did it. So
I guess, I guess now I have a really good reason.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
There you go. You never need a reason to go
get tools. Well, I know, but you know, all right, Robert,
you take care all right, thank you bye. Tools are
just one of those things you gotta have. And so
when you got something like this you need to do.
(29:18):
Oh yeah, I got one of those. You just go
grab it and you take care of it. Again. If
you got a question seven one three two one two
five eight seven four. That's seven one three two one
two five eight seven four, and I'll see what I
can do to help you out here on Texas home
through it. So I got an email question in that says, uh,
(29:41):
I've noticed black This comes from Pat and she says,
I've noticed black wasp going inside my wheepholes. Got me
to looking at them, and the copper that was used
to has fallen out of the or dislodged. This might
explain these wasp I see inside my house, along with
(30:01):
scorpions and other bugs becoming more prevalent. What is the
best product to use to resecure these wheepholes while allowing
the wheepholes to do their important job. Thanks so much
for your help. We thoroughly enjoy your great show. You
have such a wealth of knowledge. Well, you won't like
(30:23):
my knowledge wealth on this one. The wheepholes are there
for a reason, and typically they don't have anything in them.
They're just open. But the wall, the brick wall, is
just a facade. There's nothing structural about it. The two
(30:43):
by four stud wall is where everything's at, and your
sheet rock on the inside is sealed up, and typically
on newer homes, the sheathing and everything on the outside
is sealed up as well, and so that's what would
be keeping bugs and stuff out. Now, if you really
want to put something in there, you could put some
(31:07):
steel wool in there, but it will rust and it
will tend to run down and leave a little rust
streak on the foundation. You can get some brass steel
wool type stuff to put in there, kind of costly,
but you're not using that much of it anyways. But
that is really not the way the wasp and.
Speaker 12 (31:29):
The the scorpions and stuff like that are getting in.
So you probably need to be looking for another opening

We're back to Texas Home Improvement with Jilly dot.
Speaker 8 (34:58):
Hey.
Speaker 4 (34:58):
Welcome back to Texas Home No Improvement seven one three, two,
one two five eight seven four got open lines available
so seven one three two one two five eight seven four.
Let me, uh we can do to help you out
here on Texas Home Improvement. So Robert and Beverly sent
(35:19):
me an email. Sunken dining room floor in a nineteen
eighties townhouse steps gotta go. I enjoy your show and
a light hearted humor. Jim, keep it up. Now for
my question, what's the most cost effective way to raise
a sunken dining room floor in a nineteen eighties townhouse
(35:41):
without compromising structural integrity and accessibility? Those steps gotta go? However,
there is a bathroom next to the steps to a
ramp is out of the question. I have pictures if needed. Well, look,
the best way to do it is to just pour
(36:03):
concrete and raise it up. Now, here's the issues you
run into. Is a ceiling raised or is it an
eight foot ceiling? Right now? You know, if it's an
eight foot ceiling in the sunken area, you're gonna make
your ceiling lower, and you know that's something you have
to decide. But what you're asking me, what's the best
(36:25):
way to fill it concrete? Without question? Now, if the
bathroom is on that same level, it does create a
little bit of an issue, but it's still easily doable.
They'll have to pull a toilet, take out the cabinets
and everything, and put a pike to extend the toilet
(36:45):
up higher, just as though it was new construction, pour
the concrete and then put a new flange on it.
It really is that simple, and then you can reset
the cabinets and all that stuff. Make sure your water
lines are high enough that they're not going to be
under the concrete. But as far as the drain lines,
that should be absolutely no problem at all. A lot
(37:06):
of times people start worrying about, oh, it's going to
be too heavy for the foundation. No, the foundation won't
even know that it's there. It doesn't hurt a thing
on the foundation. And quite frankly, that's probably the cheapest
way to do it as well, because the other way
would be to put a raised wood floor in there.
But then you're walking through the house and you got
(37:30):
different sounding floors and stuff. And not to mention the
fact that most of these sunken rooms eventually develop leaks.
You don't need that water underneath a suspended floor. That way,
it'll cause all kinds of mold and wood rot and
issues you just don't want to have to deal with.
So just pouring concrete is typically going to be the
(37:51):
best way to go. If you do pour the concrete,
I typically recommend you don't bother with reebar and stuff
in a room that way, because the slab already has
reinforcement in it. However, I do recommend you put a
fiber reinforcement in the concrete, and that takes the place
(38:13):
of the steel reinforcement. But uh, you know, it binds
the concrete together. So just my two cents on that,
That's how I would handle it. Got a question seven
one three two one two five eight the seven four.
That's seven one three two one two five eight seven four.
(38:34):
Any home improvement question you have, Feel free to pick
up the phone, give me a call, and I'll see
what I can do to help you out here on
Texas Home Improvement. Your total home improvement source again seven
one three two one two five eight the seven four. Ah,
you know this is very similar to the call we
(38:56):
took a little while ago. This comes from Terry out
of Sea Brook and says, I have a rental house
that has AC diffusers installed in a fourteen foot cathedral ceiling.
The duct is ran in an eight inch area between
the joist under the bottom of the roof and above
the sheet rock ceiling. It's sweating on the sheet rock
(39:20):
causing damage. Is it possible to redo the duck insulation
and wrapping to keep it from sweating the The answer
is yes, it is possible. Now, depending on what you
have there for duck work, it may be easier to
just replace the duck, and the new duckwork uses more
insulation than old duckwork did. Anyways, they require the new
(39:43):
codes raised the R value by two. It was six
now I think it's eight or something like that. But regardless,
yes it is possible. Your biggest problem is getting access
because it sounds like it's kind of in a chase
and you'll probably have to pull some sheet rock to
get to it. Now, if this is a hard pipe duct,
(40:09):
you can inject foam in there to encapsulate it in
the foam and seal it and insulate it and everything
that way. But if it is a flexible duck that
was put into a chase that way, well, your easiest
maybe to just replace it because the fact that you
got dripping coming through the sheet rock means this has
(40:30):
been going on for a while and is not going
to get any better. As time goes on, and so
you're gonna end up probably opening that sheet rock up
and get into it to repair it already again. Seven

home improvement question have seven to one three two one

Hey?
Speaker 7 (50:09):
Jim?
Speaker 4 (50:09):
How you doing? Hey?
Speaker 2 (50:11):
You know I uh, I have an.
Speaker 13 (50:12):
Exposed patio that I put some sixteen by sixteen slate
tiles down about eight years ago. I grouted them and
they looked all right for a while. I never did
glaze him or anything, but now they look pretty weathered,
and I'm thinking either taking them up or maybe there
is some kind of product we can either should I
need to regrout them, or is there a glaze I
(50:35):
can just put over that'll fill all that.
Speaker 4 (50:39):
Well, if it's in the grout lines, then no, you
would end up regrouting them. Uh. If it's a tile
itself that's looking bad along with the grout lines, then yes,
there are protectings that you can put on it.
Speaker 13 (50:56):
Is there a glaze that you can put over the
slate itself to.
Speaker 4 (51:00):
Like seal it? Yes? Yeah. If you go into floor
in Decore and there's one up there on forty five
on the north side, they've got that for that slate stuff.
They've got some natural slate protectants that you can put
(51:21):
on there for indoor and outdoor use, and it'll really
I should bring out the colors of it and stuff
as well.
Speaker 7 (51:29):
Should I should? I?
Speaker 13 (51:30):
I should have to g reeground it then and then
and then put that glaze on it.
Speaker 7 (51:33):
Is that correct?
Speaker 4 (51:35):
Yeah, because it's really a liquid that soaks into the
the wood or the slate rather and you know, just
seals everything. So yes, your grout would have to be
in decent shape first.
Speaker 13 (51:49):
All right, thank you, Sarah, appreciate your show. Thank you
for everything.
Speaker 4 (51:53):
You bet you take care And that's the beautiful thing
about slate. You can walk on it for years and
it can look just bad. But you clean it up,
and you do have to clean it well, and then
you add one of these protectings on it, and it
just revitalizes it and brings out all the colors and
(52:14):
makes it look gorgeous. Got a question seven one three, two,
one two, five eight seven four. By the way, those
kind of products won't work on the man made stuff,
because when the man made where's you're going through? Whatever
man made is on the surface. When it's a true slate,
(52:38):
it's got the colors all the way through it because
it's it's a natural stone, and it just it makes
a huge difference. All right. This came in from Mike
out of pear Land, and he says, Hi, Jim, I
heard you speaking about the energy Q product yesterday. I've
researched their website, but ill we'll have a question. You
(53:01):
advertise the insulation company in Hitchcock, and I had them
do the blown in insulation a couple of years ago
with new AC units and fifteen inches of insulation. Yes,
things are better, the house holds the coolness better. But
when I heard you speak of the energy Q, I
(53:22):
was intrigued. Do you have to fasten it down, tack
it down on joys and who can install this? Thank you? No,
you don't have to fasten it down. You literally lay
it over the top of the insulation in the attic
like a blanket, and by doing that it keeps the
(53:42):
heat that's in the attic from getting down into the insulation.
So there's nothing beyond that that you need to do.
So typically you cut it into you know, ten twelve
foot long sheets if you want to be able to
handle them easily, and just lay them up there like
blankets on top of the insulation. And that's all you
(54:04):
need to do. Uh, as far as somebody who can
do it, uh Due West air Conditioning, because there used
to be an installer in town and he left and
there wasn't anybody doing it, and my guy said, yeah,
we would be willing to do it, and so uh
(54:25):
we started going ahead and putting it in. So if
you want to give Due West air Conditioning a call,
we would be able to help you out with getting
the energy que put in. You can reach Due West
at seven one three four seven three seven one five six.
(54:45):
All right again, if you got a home improvement question
seven one three two one two five eight seven four.
Pick up the phone, give me a call, and I'll
see what I can do to help you out here
on Texas Home Improvement again seven to one three two
one two five eight seven four will get you taken
(55:06):
care of here on Texas Home Improvement. And I'll see here,
Lawrence not a Tomball, it says noisy boards. Hello, jim
My upstairs floor is very loud simply when walking around
(55:28):
very loud on the floor below. Can you help give
me an estimate on repairing it, also the time it
would take and a degree of construction of work it
would take. Thank you, sir. And no, I can't give
you any of the above because I don't have anywhere's
near enough information of what you need to have done.
(55:51):
You know, it's a big difference between say a twelve
x twelve room or a game room that is twenty
foot by thirty foot, or an upstairs it's got three
bedrooms in it and you're dealing with stuff, so too
many variables. Also, I don't know what you have on
for flooring, because that can make a huge difference in itself,
(56:14):
you know, so oftentimes people want to put hardwood floors
or a laminate floor on the second floor and every
step comes through to the first floor. Quite frankly, carpet
makes a great sound deadener on the second floor for
walking on and stuff for the noise below on the
(56:35):
first floor, So that would be something you could take
a look at. And in some cases the only way
to sound deaden it is to actually pull the floor
joisted up and put something on the top of the
or pull the floor decking up, put something on top
of the floor joist and then put the decking back down.
(56:57):
So there's too many variables to be able to to
give you anything intelligent on that. So if you want
to give me a holler, I can probably talk to
you about this quite a bit more. Got a question
seven to one three two one two five eight seven four.
(57:20):
That's seven one three, two, one two, five et seven
four any home improvement question you have, Pick up the phone,
give me a call, and I'll see what I can
do to help you out here on Texas HOMEPROVEMN, I
got all open lines, and I know we had a
call come in and but every day all the lines
are available. Right now, let's talk about James Hardy siding
(57:43):
real quick, because if you're looking for siding, for your home.
You owe it to yourself to look at James Hardy's
and the best siding on the planet. It's cement based,
so it doesn't rot. Water's not going to affect it.
Bugs aren't going to eat. It's just a solid material
(58:04):
that holds paint better than would ever even thought about.
So if you don't say you got a new home,
you're building a barnum indium, you're building an office that
you're gonna need some siding on. James Hardy siding is
the stuff to look at. You can mix and match.
I mean, I was at a place and my my
(58:26):
wife was with me at one of the lakes up
in Minnesota on Wednesday, and we drove by a place
and we actually had to turn around and go back
and look at it. It had bat and siding, you know,
with the up and down lines, mixed in with some
vertical siding mixed in with some wood shake, and it
was gorgeous. You can mix and match all these different
(58:48):
things together. So if you're looking for siding for your home,
take a look at James Hardy Siding, the best siding
on the planet. Go to thhipro dot com and click

Speaker 3 (01:01:25):
H heah, Hey, Jim, I have double pane windows and uh,
the glass is not tinted, is clear, and I was
thinking of putting some tended window film on the inside
for privacy. Is that advisable with that trap heat in
(01:01:47):
the in between the glass?
Speaker 4 (01:01:50):
No, it won't. You can definitely do that with no problems, okay.
Speaker 3 (01:01:58):
And uh, I guess you can eat. The best place
to put it would put you on the inside, right
You wouldn't.
Speaker 4 (01:02:07):
Yes, sir h yeah, because if you put it on
the outside, the weather will destroy it in no time.
And you're gonna want to get a good high end
window tint. Uh. You know three M makes some and
and there's there's other companies as well that that make them.
But uh, Concord window film is one that I've dealt
(01:02:29):
with before, okay, and it's they're very easy to apply.
I mean basically, you spray a little moisture, you put
the film on to move it around into place, and
then you squeechy out the moisture, trim the edges, and
you're finished. And you know, you can get the window
(01:02:51):
tint that's dark to where people can't see inside. But
they also make them clear that still blocks the UV
race from coming in. So you got a lot of choices.
Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
Okay, okay, Yeah, I would just concern about the film
having the rape, you know, bounce back, you know, towards
the entire of the of the space and then trapping
the heat in there. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:03:19):
Years ago the window manufacturers had concerns over that. Uh.
But what everybody has figured out is radiant barriers, window films,
things like that, they don't reflect the heat. They simply
stop it from traveling any further. And so okay, all
all of those, all of those concerns have gone away.
Speaker 3 (01:03:41):
Okay, okay, okay, Well that's good. Thank you very much
for the answer.
Speaker 4 (01:03:47):
You're welcome. And and I did get your email. You
were on my list to answer today.
Speaker 3 (01:03:52):
Oh okay, thank you. I thought i'd.
Speaker 4 (01:03:55):
Call it yep.
Speaker 3 (01:03:57):
Thank you about here.
Speaker 4 (01:03:59):
Bye and again seven one three two one two five
eight seven four. And I'll see what I can do
to help you out here on Texas Home Improvement. Let's
see here, we're gonnahead to the heights Alan. This is Jim.
How can I help you?
Speaker 14 (01:04:19):
A good afternoon? Jim. I have a bathtub drain that's
like really slow, I guess I'll get out of the
tub after I took a bath. It takes about ten
minutes to drain, and I've put drained cleaner in there
several times and it doesn't seem to do any good.
(01:04:40):
And I just you know, if I called the plumber,
what would be the next step. They're they're in a
clean out on the exterior wall for it.
Speaker 7 (01:04:49):
So if the drain cleaner.
Speaker 14 (01:04:54):
Yeah, well I've never ran across that before.
Speaker 4 (01:04:58):
And the tub is on the outside wall where the
the shower valves and everything are on the outside wall.
Speaker 14 (01:05:05):
Yeah, yeah, it's actually it's actually when he's older homes, well,
you know in the heights, it's clearing being man. Yeah,
most here units ago. I think I was leaking under
the drain itself. The shoe what means the tub and
I plumber come out, and he also said, well, you
got this old drum trap. I'm gonna I'll cut this
(01:05:28):
out and put a peat trap in there. So I
do have a ye, plastic pea trap under there. Somebody,
whether it's stopped up in there, I don't know, or
at least somebody could go over there and take that
peak trap off and run a YEP tape.
Speaker 9 (01:05:42):
They need to.
Speaker 4 (01:05:44):
Well, the first thing that they would do is is
actually try to run a little hand snake through from
the drain in the top, because more likely it's just
built up some sludge and stuff. And if that didn't
clear it, then yes, they the next step would be
to either go underneath and pull that apart and try
(01:06:07):
to clean it and run a snake or run one
down through the vent stack.
Speaker 15 (01:06:12):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:06:13):
You know, depending on how this is put together, you
can access the everything down through the vent stack as well.
Speaker 14 (01:06:20):
Yeah, I think that the main when they used to
call it saw stack. I know some people don't know
what it is, but you toilet, this goes under and
then I guess somewhere under the ground. It goes about
four foot into the main sewer line yep. And then
(01:06:40):
of course the scene drops into that toilet vent stack.
But okay, so if they're going to pull that little
strainer off the drain.
Speaker 4 (01:06:51):
Sometimes they got to pull the strainer, but a lot
of times those little hand cranks, you can even run
through that strainer without pulling it out.
Speaker 14 (01:06:59):
Or maybe through the toggle valve for the drain.
Speaker 4 (01:07:05):
Yeah, the overflow yep.
Speaker 14 (01:07:06):
Yeah, yeah, they can do that.
Speaker 4 (01:07:10):
Yeah, so a lot of times, there's ways to do
it from the top, and that's what they would try first,
because more than likely this is just going to be
a sludge build up that's within the p trap in
short distance of pipe beyond that.
Speaker 14 (01:07:25):
Yeah, okay, Well I'll been here for forty five years
and it's never stopped up at all.
Speaker 4 (01:07:31):
This first time, yeap did?
Speaker 14 (01:07:33):
I did wash some dishes there for a while. Actually,
my kitchen drain stopped up. It'd been stopped up for
over two years, and I think it's got a collapse
rubber vow.
Speaker 5 (01:07:44):
I think one time I put one.
Speaker 14 (01:07:45):
In the wall where there you pop under the sink
and where they would lead connected or something. It's okay,
well it looks like a big getting the office called
sometimes soon.
Speaker 4 (01:07:59):
Okay, yeah, sound thank you allan and again seven one three, two,
one two five eight seven four. Any home improven question
you have, Uh, let's say, Warren, this is Jim. I'll
help you.
Speaker 8 (01:08:20):
Uh, yeah, Jim. What is your opinion of these mold people.
Speaker 4 (01:08:26):
Of the mold, what.
Speaker 8 (01:08:29):
The mold remediators or what have you? Oh?
Speaker 4 (01:08:37):
I think a lot of them. I think a lot
of them go after stuff that probably is natural and
doesn't need to be gone after. But uh, if you've
got mold growing that you see, and yes, it can
spread spores in the house and stuff and create havoc,
no two ways about it. But unfortunately a lot you
(01:09:00):
scare tactics. Now I have one that I've dealt with
for a long time, the uh Woodland's water Restoration that
I have found does a great job and doesn't use
scare tactics on people. But uh, it really just depends
on the company.
Speaker 8 (01:09:19):
Well at home Builder for fifty years, which I have
now since I'm tired of buildings, I have been a
project manager now homeowners that build their own homes, that
want to build their own home uh huh and uh
I've got one home going up around the Cleayly area
(01:09:41):
and then another one.
Speaker 4 (01:09:42):
Hey, Warren, would you mind holding on? I got to
take a break for the news, and I would I
would love to finish this conversation. Can I put you
on hold for a minute. Yeah, all right, thank you, sir.
We'll be right back with more Texas Home improvements seven
one three, two, one two five eights. Seven. Let's talk
about USA insulation, because if you're thinking about the insulation
(01:10:05):
in your walls, USA insulation can help you. I mean,
if you got a house that was even built last
year and it's got fiberglass insulation R thirteen in it,
they can raise that R value up to like R
twenty six by encapsulating it with spray foam insulation. It
(01:10:25):
seals all the air gaps so you're not feeling air
infiltration any longer, raises the R value and can reduce
the noise from outside up to eighty percent. I'm telling
you it works great. I've got it in my house.
My house was built in seventy three and so I
had R eleven and it made a huge difference. And
(01:10:46):
it can do the same for you. Call USA Insulation
four zero nine three one six ninety nine fifty seven
four zero nine three one six ninety nine fifty seven.
Speaker 6 (01:11:00):
Hang on, cooler weather is coming. Sometime in November, you
were listening to Texas Home Improvement with Jim dot.
Speaker 15 (01:11:12):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:11:13):
Yeah, I headed north to get some of that cooler weather.
I was up on International Falls and there was eight
camp sites with RVs in it. Three of us were
from Texas. I talked to the others and they said, oh, yeah,
it's just too hot in Texas. They were all retired
and so every summer they head north for several weeks
(01:11:36):
just to enjoy the cooler weather. All right, So when
we left, I was talking with Warren, and Warren sorry
about that, but news time I got a hit.
Speaker 8 (01:11:46):
Well, there's not a problem with that. I figured that was.
But I went now to this new home that was
being built in a hill seay area has had a
lot of rain. Yeah, the course came out there to
do and you know, the quickst inspection and you know,
see how the project is going. And all most all
(01:12:10):
decks of the framers were out there with sanders, sanding
the framing down. And I talked to the also said,
what in the world are y'all doing the mold guy said, Druss,
it's got uh you know, it's got the mold on
and you got to sand it off. I said, sand
(01:12:30):
it off? I said, because how much that's cost? You know,
this job? And he's what we got that taken care of.
But really, I said, this is the most ridiculous thing
I've ever heard. Uh, you know, before the house is
even dried in, they're sanding the wood down to get
(01:12:51):
rid of the hope fool Another home. I looked at
for amodel, and they were going get somebody in there
to look make sure the swat and all full of molds.
But I said, we'll tell you, they're gonna find this
whole house, or at least half of it's gonna be
full of up. And looked through, you know, like return airs,
and I looked through you know, the air Force units,
(01:13:13):
and yeah, of course around the windows they are still
single panish from the old days. And of course, yeah,
that probably got water in it, obviously from sweating from
whatever else those bad Winness used to do years ago.
And and and uh they told me, they sent me
what you know, to my uh, to my computer, how
(01:13:35):
much of the house was just covered in mold, and
it was over half of it. And I'm and I
don't pay them guys that crap for that, because Terry
Hart saying a part and then you know you're gonna
remodel this thing, I said, I said, there's no sense.
And they even went so far as to say return
(01:13:58):
was full of mold. And I said, I looked at it,
shining the flight open, and I went up until the
air conditioning unit. I pulled out the media that there
was molding there before he even got there, I told
him that I told, no mold in this system.
Speaker 5 (01:14:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:14:16):
Well, so I'm you know, I'm I'm just worried about people.
But you know, from anywhere, Houston or wherever this is
being brought fast to that why.
Speaker 4 (01:14:29):
The Yeah, the problem is there. There are there are
some guys that that are just bad apples who yes,
they any amount of mold and they throw the red
flag because they collect big money from insurance companies and
different people for abating it. But like like you said,
as far as standing those boards and stuff, that is
(01:14:51):
about as ridiculous a thing as I've heard in a
long time. Uh, it's too easy, especially if it's still
in the stick stage. Spray it down and kill it.
Speaker 15 (01:15:02):
You're done, I know, but you know, I just you know,
I just had to get that out there because that yeah,
I was, I was, I was.
Speaker 8 (01:15:14):
Living because and and uh, of course whoever the old
guy wasn't there, But I said, I hope I don't
see it. Yeah they because I know that.
Speaker 16 (01:15:26):
Well.
Speaker 4 (01:15:26):
The fortunate thing is to too many people have book
knowledge and no common sense, and they they take what
they read in a book and try to apply it
to everything, and it just doesn't work that way.
Speaker 8 (01:15:40):
Well I've ever seen a house built in a book anyway,
Uh yeah, exactly, So, uh you know, I just I
just cannot some of that because they're getting tens of
thousands of dollars for absolutely nothing, and it's cast from
the trackers, which therefore have to charge the homeowners more
(01:16:00):
money to do that stuff. And it doesn't make any
sense because for one month it dries, it's gone, it'll die.
Uh you know, for the most part, especially all would
you gotta.
Speaker 4 (01:16:13):
Have moisture to live.
Speaker 8 (01:16:15):
Yeah, so you know, unless the group leaks constantly, and
even if you can do it all this, in my opinion,
sheet rockets, you move in the house, you're all get
mold in the house somewhere. Anyway. It's just you know,
in this climate, you're going to get mold somewhere.
Speaker 4 (01:16:36):
Well, in any climate. Since the beginning of time, there
has been mold in our environment, in our homes and stuff.
It goes all the way back to the cave days.
Speaker 8 (01:16:47):
Oh yeah, I know that. But anyway, I just thought
i'd pass that on because you know, just the people
ask you about it, have them watch those guys, because
because you know, I can go through a house, and
I've got a pretty good sniffer. There's some mold and
I have remodeled house that was really, really bad, and honestly,
(01:17:09):
we tore the sheet rock out of the bathrooms and
the dust, the black and crap just blew everywhere and
made three of us guys sick. So yeah, you know
then you know, and we were gone for a couple
of days, or at least I was. I went in
with the you know, gallons of the stuff to spray
in there and took the rest of it out back
by myself, my helpers, my uh guys would not get
(01:17:34):
sick again. But yeah, you know, it's it was just
like my god, see you know what, what is it?
You just pick out something and this is what your
house has to have exactly, and yep, oh it it
just blew my mind. So, uh, you know, I built
(01:17:55):
a many and many a house in my lifetime and
I pulled it. Any want of them ever been falling
about mold and stuff, but uh it didn't. It seems
like everything is going crazy with with these just scare
tactics that these people use. I don't know, but that's
a lot.
Speaker 4 (01:18:15):
You just hit it right there. It's it's scare tactics.
And the unfortunate thing is, uh, you know, mortgage companies
and cities and places like that have bought into it
and then they start pushing it as well.
Speaker 8 (01:18:31):
Yeah, and I don't know if the city makes any
money out of it why they do that. But no,
that's just that's just my opinion. And I mean, I
wasn't a lot of projects in Houston to commercial projects,
and and uh you know that one time when somebody
had lost their house and the insurance wouldn't pay because
of them own and then it just went like wildfire.
(01:18:52):
Everybody had mold. Everybody's gonna die, you know, so uh
uh and you know I never believed that either. And
uh you know, then I see what and they doing,
the people that hire them when they're building a house.
It's it's almost the point of being compared to the stupid.
Uh yeah. So I'm sorry I have to say at
(01:19:15):
least quite that.
Speaker 10 (01:19:17):
Anyway.
Speaker 8 (01:19:17):
I appreciate your.
Speaker 4 (01:19:18):
Time, no problem, Warren, You take care.
Speaker 8 (01:19:22):
All right, thank you.
Speaker 4 (01:19:24):
You bet, and again our number seven one three, two
one two five eight seven four. And yes, the some
of the mold stuff has just been blown way out
of proportion. The asbestos stuff was blown way out of proportion.
You know, asbestos is not an issue unless you mess
(01:19:45):
with it and it turn and you turn it to
dust by drilling or cutting on it. A lot of
the asbestos though, that's in a hard shell form. It's
better off being left alone. Now. In some of the
build where they started spraying and wrapping pipes with asbestos,
I get it that stuff needed to be abated. But
(01:20:08):
you know, we take something that can be an issue
and we just blow it out of proportion sometimes anyways,
seven one three, two, one two, five, eight, seven four.
You know, Southern Water Solutions they're not taking it and
blowing it out of proportion because they do a test
on the water supply. Then they're able to design a
(01:20:30):
filtration system may or may not include water softeners, reverse osmosis.
I always love reverse osmosis because that gives you good,
pure drinking water. But you know, at Southern Water Solutions,
it all begins with a water test first and design
a system around what the water test shows you. So
(01:20:51):
if your water is questionable, then most of our water
is nowadays, you want to get rid of the chemicals
in it. You want to get rid of the uh,
you know mineral that's in the water and things like that.
Call Southern Water Solutions eight three two five nine three
thirty nine ninety three. That's eight three two five nine
(01:21:12):

Speaker 6 (01:21:15):
When Jim Dutton of Texas Home Improvement recommends a company,
you won't steer you rof like Do West Services.
Speaker 17 (01:21:21):

system and so tired of lugging those miserable so corrosis
that keep getting destroyed. It's just a nightmare. So anyway,
I had Jacob out from your company, Due West, and
he was phenomenal and you run a tip top organization.
(01:21:43):
He was dressed beautifully. The truck he drove up and
was perfect. I mean, you just have made yourself a
wonderful company. I can't thank you enough. I really appreciate it.

both for me, and they did a great job and
they got you know a lot of stuff that a
lot of roofing companies just don't keep up with, like
(01:22:36):
the fortified roofs for instance. Now this is something where
they're now doing roofs that withstand high winds and if
the shingles come off, the underlayment is secured to the
point where it keeps the house dright. If the underlayment
comes off, the plywood itself that the joints and everything
(01:22:57):
are are taped up and sealed up wall not penetrating
into your living space. That way, it minimizes your damage
and it can help with insurance reductions in some cases.
You need to talk to the folks at Cardian roof Systems.
Two eight one four zero seven seventy two point eighty.

Speaker 6 (01:23:20):

Ready seal far in a way the best way to
stain and seal any outdoor would And I don't care
if it's your fail a deck, a dock, a gazebo.
Uh my dad uses it even on driftwood and stuff.
I mean it really looks gorgeous because they got several
different tints you can choose from. It soaks deep down
(01:24:14):
into the wood fibers, keeping it from taking on moisture,
which protects the wood. And that's what you're looking for.
You don't want moisture getting into your wood and causing
it to decay and gray and you know, just look nasty. Now,
where do you find ready Seal Well the box stores
like Lows and Home depot have it. Most lumber yards
(01:24:34):

But you want to find a store nearest you go
to readyseal dot com.
Speaker 16 (01:24:46):
Hi, Jim, how you doing?
Speaker 8 (01:24:47):
I just heard your show.
Speaker 16 (01:24:49):
I'm walk around building a hat compartment in my house,
probably like a eight by ten room, and I'm gonna
be growing planting there. And I wanted to know what
you think I should use for ventil or Philip Trace?
Speaker 8 (01:25:01):
Hey, ho, little't you come want the house?
Speaker 15 (01:25:05):
So?
Speaker 14 (01:25:07):
Yeah, I hope the drums don't mess up through up
poll stream, Sean.
Speaker 4 (01:25:11):
I gotta ask you a question. Are you're gonna be
growing illegal plants in there?
Speaker 8 (01:25:14):
Oh?
Speaker 16 (01:25:16):
No, No, just just legal plants, you know.
Speaker 4 (01:25:20):
Okay, But because otherwise I'm not going to tell you
how to fix it up, So.
Speaker 16 (01:25:24):
You know, strawberry, whatever kind of cool plant.
Speaker 8 (01:25:27):
Let me take you down.
Speaker 6 (01:25:34):
Here's more with Jim Dunton and Texas Home Improvement.
Speaker 4 (01:25:41):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvements. Seven one three, two,
one two five eight seven four. Gonna head out to
Mount Belview. Hello David. Hello, Okay, go ahead to say,
how can I help you?
Speaker 18 (01:26:02):
Well, I've got an issue with in a closet and
about to three year old home, and I'm getting mold
up on the ceiling.
Speaker 14 (01:26:14):
Uh.
Speaker 18 (01:26:15):
The only place in the house where I'm getting this.
The closet does not have an event in it with
ac or anything, so it's, you know, nothing there sending
any air. I've checked up in the attic for moisture
to see if there's some up there, and it seems dry.
Don't see anything. We do have a lot of things
(01:26:38):
stored in that closet, blankets and things that, but it's
nothing wet. So we're trying to figure out where this
mold came from. What we should do. We should add
a do you medifier in it? Or add a vent
to the closet to.
Speaker 4 (01:26:54):
Keep Is this on an I know it's on an
outside wall, but it is it by hands in a
corner where it's got two outside walls on it.
Speaker 18 (01:27:03):
It's actually in the center, no outside walls at all,
so it's center of the house.
Speaker 4 (01:27:10):
No, Okay, then there's got to be something getting it. Yeah,
you got to get moisture to it from somewhere then.
Speaker 18 (01:27:19):
Yeah, And I can't find it, so I'm not sure.
Maybe we had some blanket in there that was vamp
for a while, and the moisture nowhere to go but up,
I guess trying to.
Speaker 4 (01:27:32):
Well, are the blankets getting mildew on them? Not that
I've noticed.
Speaker 18 (01:27:40):
We'll have to look a little bit more for that.
I'm not of the house right now, unfortunately, do that.
Speaker 4 (01:27:45):
Take a look at that, because that that's going to
kind of help narrow it down what's going on. Because
if the blankets are are starting to get you know,
mildewy and you know, moldy kind of haze on them, well,
then it can be something in the closet right now,
(01:28:06):
if it's strictly up on the ceiling, then it's got
to be a moisture source in the attic. And it
could be even the wast or not waste, the drain
line for the HVAC system. It could be a duckwork
that runs over there that's got a hole in it
that's allowing air to cold air to push against that
(01:28:29):
sheet rock and so it sweats a little bit, and
there's any number of things, but it's all going to
be tied to something above it.
Speaker 3 (01:28:39):
Yeah, that's what.
Speaker 5 (01:28:39):
I was thinking.
Speaker 18 (01:28:40):
But everything seemed to dry.
Speaker 5 (01:28:44):
All their Should.
Speaker 18 (01:28:48):
I have put a vent in this in these closets there,
walking closets, not huge, you know, maybe four by four
a little bigger. But does the vent help to put
in the should we add one?
Speaker 4 (01:29:01):
A vent would because you'd be putting in fresh air
all the time. But if it is moisture dripping up
in the attic somehow, then the vent would not help.
So that's got to be checked out first.
Speaker 18 (01:29:14):
Okay, We've got to find the source first.
Speaker 4 (01:29:16):
Okay, yep, okay, now what it means. I gotta take
a break and let me know what you find on that,
because I'm curious. Now, hey, let's talk real quick about

In the world of home improvement, you have to watch
out for dishonest contractors and watered down counterfeit knockoffs from
other states who might even call themselves Texas Hold Improvement.
Just keep in mind there's only one and here's the
one and only Jim Dutton.
Speaker 4 (01:32:57):
Welcome back to Texas Home Improvement. Let's get our last
call of the day. Jeff in Bellville. How can I
help you?
Speaker 7 (01:33:05):
Yes, sir, I'm looking at building a building. I spoke
with your your sons a few weeks ago about autoclave
aerated concrete, and I was just trying to get your
get your input on it, okay?
Speaker 4 (01:33:20):
And and what was it you were talking asking.
Speaker 7 (01:33:22):
About autoclave aerated concrete A A C. I'm looking at
being a building, was using that instead of the normal
tin structure ten or metal metal building? Using that as
the okay?
Speaker 4 (01:33:36):
Yeah? And so what's your question on it?
Speaker 7 (01:33:40):
Well, you know we don't here in the US we don't.
We don't see a lot of it being used. So
I was just wondering if if you had any input
on on to do it, to use it, not to
use it. I've I've asked many home builders you know,
or building builders, and they have no knowledge of it.
Speaker 4 (01:33:58):
No, it's not used here a lot because quite frankly,
there hasn't been a need for it. I mean, I
think if you go into other parts of the country
and if you get into more commercial use, you'll see it,
but not unresidential.
Speaker 7 (01:34:15):
Okay, so no, yas if it's a good, good product
to use for for longevity, et cetera.
Speaker 4 (01:34:29):
I truthfully don't know. I'm like anybody else. I don't
know enough about it. I know of it, but I
don't know enough about it to say, yeah, this is
a great way to go or not to go. Okay, already,
you bet take care. And with that, let's talk real
quick about DUS foundation repair, because if you've been having
(01:34:51):
foundation problems, it's time to put it to rest. I mean,
it's as good as it's going to get after all
the rains we've been having this year, and and if
the rains fix your problem, then let's get some preventative
maintenance to keep the problem from coming back. But if
it hasn't, let's get some underpinning underneath there to keep
the problem from getting worse when it starts drying out again.
(01:35:13):
And you know it's going to dry out again, so
call du West. Foundation repair will come out. We're gonna
draw the place, we're gonna mark all the trees, take elevations.
Then we can sit down and go over a plan
for you. And most of the time you don't need
foundation repair, you just need the preventative maintenance. Seven one
