Speaker 7 (01:04):
They ever catch that gorilla would escape from the zoo
and punched you an.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
I sorry, my friend, Mark Sherman, I told you that
eighteen wheeler plowed into the back of him, and it's
amazing that he's alive. Totaled his car and then the
eighteen wheeler scoots off. How's an eighteen Wheeler do a
hit and run. I mean, come on. But anyway, So
(01:31):
he had his surgery yesterday. There's gonna be a bunch
of surgeries, but this was the first one on his clavicle,
and they're rebuilding. It's like six million dollar man kind
of stuff. And so I was checking with him this morning,
him and his wife June, on how the surgery went.
And everything went well, and he's got a nerve He's
got some good drugs. So I told him to hold on.
If there's any extra, hold you know, don't give him back,
(01:54):
you know, they try.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
To get him back anyway.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
So he's got a nerve block and all that, so
he is not really feeling the pain just yet. But
I asked June if she could send some photos of
his naked chest and back, and mostly focused on the
cut itself, the surgery itself, but so that I could see.
And I guess what I didn't anticipate is how much
bruising it was going to be. I mean, he looks
(02:17):
like he looks like his skin color. I'm looking from
the elbow up to his chin all the way. He
looks like his skin color is purple. He looks like
an eggplant. And I mean, you want to say it,
I'll take it in there.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
It is.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
It's not a light bruise. It is a dark, dark,
angry purple. But then I got to thinking, Oh, I said,
how much of this is from the surgery and how
much of this is from the accident itself?
Speaker 2 (02:46):
And his wife, June Bug, says, that's all from the accident.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Yes, she says, how do we find who the driver was?
You know what, I bet you there's a good plane
it's attorney out there that when cases like this come in,
they because there's a payday on whoever.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
What's that? No, that is not who I'm calling.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Who tracks this sort of stuff down. I mean, look
at eighteen wheeler smashing into a white Mercedes on the freeway.
Once I know where it is, there's going to be
somebody and they're probably listening to our show because we
had a lot of truck drivers who can find this
turd and track him down and flog him.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
What's that? Yep?
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Yeah, it's close to I don't know how close he
was to Dallas, though I know he was on his
way to Dallas.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
I just don't know how close he was when he
was on the way.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Anyway, Heather, you're on the Michael Berry Show Thanksgiving Special.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Go ahead, sweetheart, Hi, good.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
Morning, mister Barry. I just wanted him to call and
say I am grateful for my two towns thirteen and
William nine there happy uh yes, but we say not
because he uh you know, he had a little bit
(04:15):
of like a checkered life whatever, So we say named
for him, like, but not after him, Okay, because he's
my favorite townsman. Townsman zan is my favorite.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
It's interesting, okay, all right. And then William, who's William
named for?
Speaker 4 (04:35):
William is named after my husband's dad, who was a
physician in Galveston for I don't know thirty forty plus
years and then went on to be a physician at
Texas A and M for another fifteen years. So very beloved,
uh fake here and obviously one of my favorite people
(04:58):
on earth.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
That's your father in law. Yes, And what's his full.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Name, William Paterick Paterick.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
So there's going to be a lot of people in
Galveston that will have known doctor Paterick.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
How do you spell Pateric?
Speaker 4 (05:15):
Oh? God, yes, it's like Peter with the e k
on the end of it.
Speaker 8 (05:19):
Okay, I have to.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
Say that a lot.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
So now you're Heather pi E T E R E K.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah, I got you.
Speaker 8 (05:25):
What was your main.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
My maiden name was Hill H. L.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Hill.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
It's got a good lad ring to it. And then
you became Heather Pateric. What does what does your William Paterick?
What does your husband Paterick do? Is he William?
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Also?
Speaker 4 (05:45):
No, my husband is Benjamin. He's the baby of the family. Uh.
He We actually have a family business. We run a
commercial maintenance company. We run it out of Galveston, but
we're all over Galveston County and all into Harris County two.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Did you or he ever call before?
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Yes, my husband ben did call. Yes, I think when
y'all are talking about Hurricane I maybe.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
I remember this. What's the name of your business?
Speaker 4 (06:17):
Uh, it's Goal Side Cleanings.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Yes, I remember this. I remember this. We talked.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
I asked him what he did, and he told me
he has a business, and he made.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
It seem like it was a little tiny business, but
it was apparently it does pretty well.
Speaker 6 (06:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
And I listened when he was on the radio and
him and I both were like, oh my gosh, why
didn't you say the name of our business.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
You know, it's funny.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
I don't know, Heather, I don't know how this happened.
But sometime forty years ago somebody on the radio, a
local DJ or something somewhere, said you can't say the
name of things on the air, and that is that.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
Yeah, it's like an urban myth.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
And people say that.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
I tell people listen when you're on the air. There's
a lot of people listening. But it's qualitative, not quantitative.
It's not how many people are listening, because there are.
It is a very engaged audience. Got when we went
to break, Ramon was shaking his head because we got
people calling up here saying, can you tell me which
(07:23):
Texas roadhouse ms Corey works that I want to go
there and be her one hundred dollars donor Look, I'm
not knocking any other show. That's not what I mean
to do here. I just think it's very special. I
don't think.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Our audience is what makes the show special. When we
so much as mention Gulf Side Cleaning, there will be
people who will call I mentioned camp Hope, and that's
I'm their national spokesman, and it's important and that's veterans
who served in war fighting PTSD, so we don't lose
another one and people drive over and don't their services.
(08:01):
They put them on a monthly they I got to
email this week an elderly lady wanted to do a
life tendency and donate her home upon her passing whenever
that may be in the future, and hopefully it's not
anytime soon to camp hope, and if I could put
her with somebody to coordinate the legal documents.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
It just like people.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
Our people are so responsive, and I think that is
because we're not a traditional show where the host is
just spouting opinions. I think it is because we have
created a community and it's not just me and Ramon
and Chad and Jim and Sandy and Rachel and Chance
(08:43):
it everybody is a part of this thing, and everybody
understands that I just get to be the ringleader.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
But it's more about a community than it is. A guy,
you know, smiling off on the radio. I have a
story for you.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
My brother in law murdered too.
Speaker 7 (08:59):
Native American Michael Verry.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Showy, you have my attention.
Speaker 9 (09:22):
You did not be loved me like you did, but
you did.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
But you did, and I thank you. They're not belive man,
I get dead, but you did.
Speaker 7 (09:35):
But you did.
Speaker 5 (09:37):
And I think.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
By your ducking.
Speaker 7 (09:41):
Love to someone else, I.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Wouldn't nobody that meant to be loved you.
Speaker 9 (09:47):
That you made me feel like I'm now I felt fault.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Well, apparently the Poterics are pretty well known, and yeah
I was. Did My buddy John mclere, who owns a
Buffalo grill down there and several other things, said nicest
people you ever want to meet, and funny thing. Chance
McLain was listening and he sent me an email he said,
I knew the name Pterik, sounded familiar. They did a
heritage film for the dad, so her father in law,
(10:18):
the doctor Richard. You're on the Michael Barry Show Thanksgiving Special.
Welcome what you got sir?
Speaker 8 (10:26):
Hey, Michael, thank you so much for taking my call.
I wanted to call yesterday for the adoption special, but
I wasn't sure if it's fit. At eighteen, I was
thrown out because you're eighteen, you're on your own. But
I had a very supportive church and a very godly
couple named Tom and Stephanie who took me in as
their own kids. Helped get me through school. And then
in twenty twenty one, Stephanie's husband Tom unfortunately passed away
(10:48):
from brain cancer, and she stood by his side to
the very end. And then about eighteen months later, I
was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form cancer myself,
and she rose to the occasion and got me through
that through thirteen rounds of chemo, three surgeries, and a
lot of physical therapy. And I am eternally blessed and
grateful to have her in my life. And it's just
(11:08):
a testament that God's love shines through his people.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Always, always.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
You know, you learn to know people by their spirit,
by their deeds, by their actions. I have a theory
going back to Coore at Texas Roadhouse, that if you
want to know what kind of person someone is, you
(11:40):
be a fly on the wall and watch how they
treat a server, waiter, whatever you want to call them
at a restaurant when nobody is looking. Your Dad of
the Year or Man of the Year or Visionary of
the Year award winner who's the re at the black
(12:01):
Ty gala that has a goal of a million dollars
this year, if he is awful to the person who
is waiting on the table at a restaurant where he's
not been recognized, then.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
He is a monster.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
And then you will see people. And having waited tables,
I learned this about people. I would look forward to
Art Howe coming in every afternoon when I was working
the Papasitos at six' ten near the, astronome And art
how would come.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
In he was the coach at the. Time he'd come in.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
By himself and he would always ask for my, session my,
section And Terry, mitchell who was the, manager would always
give me him because he's trying to keep me there
because the people that came to That papasitos didn't. Tip
but that was my highlight is you, know as this college,
STUDENT i would get to wait On art how and
(12:50):
he would engage me every, day and he would if
he was in the, mood he'd tell me what the
lineup was going to be that, day and we would talk,
ball and we'd Talk astro's history and we talked his
time playing, ball and you, know HE i was just
some guy waiting tables going to. College he was never
(13:10):
going to know that thirty years LATER i was going
to be bragging on what a good person he is
on the. Air i'm still a little little salty That
philip Seymour hoffman played him as kind of a bubbling
idiot In, moneyball BECAUSE i DON'T i don't think that was,
fair BUT i guess that Was that Was that was
(13:32):
part of the, story is that nobody who was in
the industry already could know. Anything Only Billy bean, could
and that was that was part of. It it also
doesn't hurt when you Got Brad pitt playing you in
as the Character let's go To Trecy tracy on the Black.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
Line you're on The Michael Berry.
Speaker 8 (13:56):

Laughing we are holding on to the Call that is
one of her all time favorite calls over the. Years
the woman who was a single mom with her son
in an apartment in a bad way and didn't see
any future and had no money For, thanksgiving but she
(27:36):
opened the can of sardines and made a presentation of
it and said to her son that we're still going
to honor this day and we're still going to make a.
Memory and then years later she would remarry he would
be an, adult maybe with his own. Family by this,
time she was very happily. Married life had turned out
good for. Her she turned the corner and she had
(27:59):
all that she, needed but she and her son would
still have their separate can of sardines On thanksgiving to
remember the place they had been.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
At at that point in their.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
Lives and we did not see that story. Coming when
she started with the sardine, Story we're, thinking, lady why
did you call about? Sardines we want to hear about delicious.
Foods and then to hear her tell that, story it was.
Wow it was just something that.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
It blew us. Away it absolutely blew us.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
AWAY i got a call early this, morning but first of,
all we're not a breaking.
Speaker 2 (28:39):

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Roads this morning ON i ten.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
And A precinct five, constable single mom was working an
extra job doing traffic and some and she's sitting in
her car and her the lights are, on so she's
doing everything she's supposed to, do and some, idiot probably
(29:24):
on their damn phone because people think they need to
text while, driving this, big, massive potentially deadly box of
steel smashed into her and killed. Her she's a rookie.
Constable she just. Started what makes it even, Worse as
(29:47):
if that wasn't bad, enough she's a single mom working
an extra job and had nowhere to take her. Kid
so it's early in the. Morning she had she's going
to drop her kid off to school. Later she got
her seven year old daughter in the back seat. Asleep
(30:09):
mom telling you single, moms, ever scooped your kid, up
threw them in the back. Seat it's an extra. Job
she wasn't on, duty scooped him, up threw them in
the back. Seat to go make a few extra bucks
because It's christmas. Season and that's what you. Do and
this turd murdered not only the, mother the rookie, constable
(30:32):
but the daughter in the. Back it was such a
traumatic scene that THE hpd officer who responded to the
scene because now we've got a deadly car, crash not
just traffic, problems had a heart attack and had to
(30:52):
be rushed to the hospital.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
Where they are performing surgery on him right. Now it
was that.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
Traumatic unravel this whole Run, lola run. Nonsense AND i
guarantee you you're gonna find because it was late enough
in the morning that that's probably not somebody coming home
from the. Bar you're gonna find somebody who had no
intention to cause anybody any harm and viewed it as
(31:19):
harmless to be on their stupid phone texting lol to
some message that could have.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
Waited M.

families some of us don't have brothers and sisters around
