Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Fort Crockett, and I couldn't remember Fort Crockett where
those was that beautiful set of structures along the sea wall. Yeah,
how did I forget that? I knew, I knew it.
It was on tip of my tongue. I just couldn't
remember exactly what it was. So yesterday a post appeared
(00:24):
that has the political world in Austin and across Texas
quite a buzz. When Ken Paxton was facing impeachment and
there was an impeachment trial in the Senate, which is
where the trial where that is tried, with the Lieutenant
(00:49):
governor presiding, it was doubly awkward that his wife, Angela
is a state senator in the seat he once held. Awkward,
I say, because you're trying to impeach her husband, but
also awkward because just as with the p Diddy or
(01:14):
Sean Puffy Combs or whatever you want to call him trial,
many of the things that get thrown out there are
intended to embarrass but don't have a legal aspect. Often
the public doesn't understand that, and I think that the
public doesn't understand the arcane minutia of financial crimes and
(01:43):
conflicts of interest or violations of ethics laws. That's too
much work to think about. It's hard to understand. We
don't have a frame of reference. There's nothing in my
job where that comes up. I don't understand. It seems
like they're just making something up. Oh well he was
bonking girl. Oh oooo, that's gonna be bad. Yeah, that
(02:05):
that'll be bad. Well, in the grand scheme of things,
that's not actually a crime. But that's something people can
sink their teeth into. They can understand that what they
what they charged Sean Combs with was well, what they
actually charged him with was a hard case to prove.
(02:25):
From day one, they had an uphill climb. They didn't
charge the case correctly, they didn't bring the right cases.
But the lurid details of butt sex with pretty much
everybody famous and black that you know and some white. Yeah,
oh yeah, that's yeah, he's a bad dude's going away forever.
That really wasn't That wasn't what the case was about.
(02:47):
So all those things that were out there were intended
to smear his name, scare him, get him to get
him to come forward, draw attention to the case, make
you watch the evening investigative report on it. But that
was almost none of what they actually charged. Right when
they came after Trump, they couldn't go after him on
(03:10):
the basis that he's going to deport the illegals. Yeah,
I know, it's what he said that that's why we're
voting for him. Well well that's mean yeah, well whatever,
Well that's what we want him to do. He referred
to a girl's who who was talking about being a
badass with the girls, and there's girls in his life.
Oh okay, well now he's in trouble. Well that didn't
(03:33):
e fact whether he was going to be president, did it?
But it almost derailed the campaign. There were a lot
of people who believed it would because those are the
things that everybody can understand. So Paxton makes it through
the impeachment, which was no small feet. Dan Patrick pulled
(03:54):
off a a maestro's touch to to keep his folks together.
There was a moment there that Paxton wasn't going to
win going in and there was some wrangling that was
done to get people to vote the way they did
and for him to win, and that was going to
(04:15):
take him out of the Senate race because Cornin can't
beat him. Straight up, there's no way everybody knows that
Cornan knows it, the DC knows it that he cannot
beat him. Well. A few days ago the case against
Paxton that the civil case is dropped, so it looks
like Paxton's got a clear path to the Republican primary nomination.
(04:38):
There's even a lot of talk in DC that Cornan
steps down and they find a replacement candidate. All was
going well for Ken Paxton, and then yesterday State Senator
Angela Paxton, his wife, tweets today, after thirty eight years
of marriage, I filed for divorce on biblical grounds. I
(05:00):
believe marriage is a sacred covenant, and I have earnestly
pursued reconciliation. But in light of recent discoveries, I do
not believe that it honors God, or is loving to myself,
my children, or Ken to and it cuts off I
think remain in this marriage. Something to that effect. The
(05:22):
bombshell is she's announced for divorce while he's a candidate
for the US Senate. Should that matter? Should it matter
that Ken Paxton's wife is legally married to him for
him to be a senator. We don't ask the quarterback
(05:44):
how his marriage is going. We want to know, can
he make the reads, do the checkdowns, avoid a sack,
not throw interceptions, and lead the team to victories. Same
with most things in society, but especially being a Republican,
(06:05):
especially being a socially conservative Republican, especially with a socially
conservative portion not all base in Texas. Now we wait
to see do people care? Do people care that Ken
Paxton and his wife have become divorced? Will that effect
whether they will still vote for him in a Republican
(06:27):
primary against John Wayne mccorn seven one thousand games. Jacob,
you're on the Michael Berry Show. Go ahead, sir, Hello, Michael.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
I was calling to give a shout out and a
special thank you to a trucker who pulled over and
gave me a myrin sing sure to put out a.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
We don't do shoutouts, but you can do a point
of personal recognition.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Okay, that's what I mean. I don't know his name,
so I'm just trying to say thank you to the
random trucker who pulled over and gave me a fire
exting shirt to put out a motorcycle fire that I
had on the side of two ninety westbound yesterday.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Hold on a minute, you were on the motorcycle. Yes, Sir,
walked me through what happened.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Just picked it up from the shop, had a brand
new lithium battery installed. I went about ten miles from
the shop on the way to my house in Spring.
I was going westbound on two ninety. The motorcycle turned off,
all power shut off. I pulled over to the emergency
lane next to the HOV couldn't start it up. I
lifted up my motorcycle seat and looked at the battery
and there was a big hole in it, and smoke
(07:37):
started pouring out. And then since it's a lithium battery,
it got introduced to oxygen slowly caught fire. I took
what I could off the bike, walked away from it,
and just kind of was ready to sit there and
watch my bike go up in planes. And then this
trucker pulled over running down the highway with a fire
(07:57):
extinguisher and gave it to me to put out the
fire and contained a catastrophic event. So I just wanted
to say thank you to him, because I didn't. I
didn't get a chance to catch his name. I didn't
get a chance to tell him thank you. It was
very quick we got the fire put out, and he
(08:17):
was back in his truck and off to wherever he
was delivering his tank of fuel.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Was he a white man, No, sir.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
He appeared to be Hispanic. He was tall, about six
one six', two wearing a straw cowboy hat and Wash
he looked to Be.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
HISPANIC a straw cowboy, hat. Yep did he have any facial?
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Hair he had like a small grown out, beard, mustache.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Combo how would you describe the shape of his?
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Eyes they were mostly, round maybe slightly almond, shaped.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Very, Descriptive. Jacob that's that's impressive on the, fly when
you hadn't considered that. Before what was his? Presentation was
he wearing a buttoned, up short sleeve shirt like pearl,
snaps blue, jeans and western belt because this sounds like
A Sonora, Mexican, no.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Sir he was wearing a BLACK t shirt and blue
jeans with a belt and some cowboy.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Boots.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Work boots or.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
More i'd say more like square toe steel toe, boots you,
know pull.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Ons i'm not a motorcycle, guy So i'm gonna ask
some dumb questions. Here first of, all what kind of?
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Motorcycles it's a nineteen eighty Four Harley DAVIDSON. Fxrs oh, okay.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
My nephew is very Into. Harley's he owns two of.
Them his dad gave him one of, them but he
owns two of. Them it's all he ever wants to
do is work on His harley's and then drive his,
heart and he's obsessed with. It why the lithium battery
is that?
Speaker 2 (10:04):
TYPICAL i was tired of changing out my standard battery
every year or two in my, bike SO i decided
to upgrade to a lithium on reference that my, mechanic
who is also my dad's friend for twenty five, years
he's like the cool Uncle i've grown up.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
With what's his?
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Name he's got one and his name is.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Hal, okay.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Go, ahead, yeah he's Had he's had a lithium battery
in his motorcycle for eight, years no. Problems SO i
was kind of sold on that idea of all, right
let me get one Because i'm tired of changing this
out and spending two hundred dollars every two, years so
let me get a. Lithium it cranked a lot, better
and you, know it sounds good AND i should have
(10:51):
better life out of.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
It so how much the lithium battery.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Costs it cost me three hundred and fifty.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Bucks, okay but the idea would be that you would
have to food with it ever again?
Speaker 2 (11:02):
Correct?
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Okay all? Right and why do you suspect that the
FIRE i, mean obviously the oxygen exposure to the, oxygen
if it was if it was ready to do, that
was the battery? Punctured what do you think? Happened?
Speaker 2 (11:17):
So i'm not really sure because if the battery was
hooked up, INCORRECTLY i don't THINK i would have been
able to leave the parking.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Lot, okay you.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Know SO i get on, It i'm And i'm, riding
and it's, Again i'm only gone ten miles or, less
and then it just shuts. Off SO i think for
some reason there was an internal failure on the battery
that caused it to either overamp or overheat and caused
a hole to form then the top of the.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
Battery how fast were you going when its going comp
out on?
Speaker 2 (11:48):
You about seventy?
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Five so would you do you just start very quickly
moving over to get to the?
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Shoulder, Yeap, yes, SIR i was in the left hand
lane AND i WAS i just passed THE telgi exit
on two ninety AND i was coming up on a
hill AND i got to the left side emergency lane
and just pulled over and tried to see WHAT i
could figure, out and THEN i found the smoking.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
Battery were you off? Yesterday?
Speaker 2 (12:18):
NO i got off early and my wife drove me
to the shop to go pick up my. Bike what
do you? Do it all happened around four. O'CLOCK i
at my own a pool repair of. Business how's that?
Going it's going pretty. Good it's been.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Better did you email me about a week?
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Ago, no, SIR i did. NOT i emailed you earlier
this year About Republic boot. Company that was?
Speaker 3 (12:42):
It?
Speaker 1 (12:43):
OKAY i had a guy email me about a week.
Ago that was a pool repair. Guy he does the
coping or whatever they call it around around you, know
where the water comes, up where the water line, is
the tile and all. That it just sounded too. FAMILIAR
i thought it could have been. You, okay so after
you get this thing, extinguished and what do you?
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Do?
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Uh so he the the, trucker that is he he? Left?
Uh and THEN I i called my mechanic and he
Was johnny on the, spot hopped in his truck to
come pick me up and then, yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Because he's probably the reason this.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Happened, No, no it's not his. Fault it's not his.
Fault i'm not sure THAT i blame him for a bad.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Battery, well but he might have put he might have
installed it. Incorrectly what was he doing on?
Speaker 3 (13:29):
It?
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Uh so he fixed a exhaust shield THAT i had
that fell. Off so he's a he's a metal fabricator
and he can fabricate. Anything you can.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Imagine oh that's a skill right.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
THERE i had, Him, yes, sir he's crafted all kinds
of stuff on my, bike my dad's, bikes his. Bikes
he built himself a sidecar that he came up with
the ideas of the joints and the dimensions and everything
to put on his.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Motorcycle sidecars are so, cool.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
That's why he did.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
IT i watch a lot Of World war two documentaries
and they always have side cars in, there and it
makes me WE i imagine me and my wife our
a little side, cards as you, know cat and around
and sing Like Michael. Berry hold, On, jacob let's see
if we can find this guy black eyes tick a.
Dollars TOLD i was about to get real cool out.
Here they're gonna open it. Up they're gonna throttle. It
(14:27):
not on The Pacific Coast highway right right. Here oh,
yeah the thing Is punch was only the second coolest,
Dude is that? True what was his? Name he went
(14:52):
To mexico and became a Nod la. Star remember Who i'm, doing?
Huh Erica. Strada, yeah, man he was one cool. CAT
i loved that. Show my Favorite chips. Episode remember they
were the bad. Guy it would always start with the
(15:13):
bad guy was doing bad, things and eventually towards the
end they like everything, else it was a formula to.
It but these these, guys they had a car made of.
Concrete well that's not going to, happen BUT i believed,
it and it had These it had these like rotors
that would come out of the side of them like a. Drilling,
UH i don't know what you call. It it would
(15:34):
a circular drilling like it was like a drill, bit
and they would pull up next to cars and then
they would shoot those two things into the, car one
toward the, back one toward the thing and drilling, in
and then they could use that to pull the car toward.
THEM i don't know how that. Happened because you know,
(15:55):
that but whatever, IT i believed. IT i was, little
and they would pull it closer until it got close.
Enough they would jump in there and then they would
rob the people like, pirates and then they would after
they took all the, money they'd jump back into their,
car and then they would reverse the process and push
them away and zoop. MAN i, remember was it Punching?
(16:18):
John was that his? Name they were really really scratching
their heads or? What how are we going to catch this?
GUY i, mean this is something this guy not that
there wouldn't be any witnesses or, anything but it was
harder to catch crooks back then because you didn't have cell.
Phones so you, know twenty minutes, later somebody'd be at
the gas station and, go go's WHAT i just. Saw
(16:41):
but that all concrete. CAR i remember, THINKING i want
to cement car Some i'm gonna grow up and have
one of. Him, Hey, jacob you Got, Jacob, Jacob, Yes i'm.
HERE i had another caller call. Up i'm gonna put
him on in a, minute and he Told. JIM i
(17:02):
don't know if he used this exact, language but he
said something to the fact that to the effect of
you dumb, Ass you don't put lithium in a. HARLEY
i don't know if he used the dumb, ass but,
apparently SO i called my. Nephew he's the PhD in oil,
drilling but he's he's my. Expert he's From, Danville, virginia
(17:24):
but he started life as an air conditioning. Repairman and
he's the guy that knows everything about, everything like WHEN
i asked, him WHEN i ask him questions about precipitation and,
all he knows everything about. Everything he's the smartest Guy
i've ever met on how stuff, works mechanical. Stuff SO
i called, HIM i, said you had an eighty. FOUR
i told the whole, story AND i, said is it
(17:45):
a dumb thing to put a lithium battery in? There
and he, SAID i made some, notes But i'll probably
get this. Wrong he, said, well it depends depends on
what he's got in. There because see they had a
shovel head, engine and then they went to the. EVO i,
said how do you spell? That, oh it's, Evolution so
shovel head to the. Evolution and then from there they
(18:05):
went to the twin. Camp, SEE i have AN evo
in a twin. Camp and then they went from there
to The milwaukee, eighths The milwaukee, eights the new. Ones
you can put a lithium, battery and so what happens
is they put the, charge they put it in, there
and they put a charge on a stater or a.
Converter there's a couple of different terms for. That and
But harley engines are very, distinctive and about every ten
years they changed the. Engines SO i just don't know
(18:28):
on that eighty four what he's going to have in.
There and, well this doesn't really help. Me is abody
told you shouldn't have put a lithium battery in?
Speaker 2 (18:35):
There, no nobody's told me.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
That what if they told you, NOW.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
I MEAN i might believe.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Them m interesting.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
Considering it left me stranded on the side of. Highway you.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
Know the good thing is yesterday wasn't that.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
Hot, no it. Wasn't it wasn't the storm cloud rolling?
Speaker 1 (18:58):
In is that your primary means of?
Speaker 2 (19:00):
Transportation, no, no, sir that's that's my.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Fun what do you drive down? Here you got like
a Little Ford, ranger Little Chevy. Colorado that's what all
the pool repair guys.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
Do they they got. THOSE i got me a ram fifteen.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Hundred oh my, okay all, Right, Uh, jim can you
Put adrian?
Speaker 3 (19:20):
On?
Speaker 4 (19:23):
Adrian, hey, hey you never put a liqium battery in
A harley before he starts talking to you and tell
told you.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
THAT i Said i'll put. UP i put a bet
on it that that's a hardy because of the hardy.
Electronics AND i don't know the big details on, them
but you know WHEN i retired FROM hpd is The?
Speaker 1 (19:48):
Romanian, yeah how do you know everything about? Everything it's crazy.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
BECAUSE i Because i'm a, GEARHEAD i like to work
on cards AND i Had hardy's. Before but what happened
is it's something that has to do with the. Electronics
so we sell those. Batteries but we. Asked we asked the.
Customer we, say, hey what what are you going to
put it? In if they Say, carli we tell them,
(20:16):
NO i got three bodies of. Mine the bike didn't
catch on, fire but it burned the electronics up on the.
Bikes but their bikes are, newer and it's something with
the lithium and something the way they build the electronics on.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
It what is who?
Speaker 3 (20:34):
Is who?
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Is?
Speaker 3 (20:35):
We you?
Speaker 1 (20:35):
Said weed?
Speaker 3 (20:36):
On Some we wait because REMEMBER i told YOU i
resigned FROM. HPD i got bored and THEN i started
working part time on, that part time ON.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
Napa so WHEN i said We i'm talking ABOUT.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Napa you LIKE? Napa?
Speaker 3 (20:52):
OH i LOVE.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
NAPA i love their. Parts let's get a discount AND
i buy my.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
Own, well if you're a gear, head that makes. Sense
my sister in law is the regional manager of the. Autozones,
oh she's the manager OF i don't, know fifty one hundred.
Stores she's worked there since she was sixteen and she's about,
fifteen so she's worked there for over forty. Years she
(21:18):
keeps trying to retire and they won't let her, retire,
like they keep wallet whipping her to come back because
she's she's done.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
IT i try to quit two times and they won't
let me.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Quit how come the battery goes? Dinner well tell me, This,
adrian how come the battery? Goes dannery two? Years the
whole reason he did this is he was frustrated battery
kept going.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Dead. Yeah see what he needs to do is put
a trick charger on. It buy a normal battery and
put a trick charger on. It and when you don't use, it.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
You plug it, in that's just a.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
Trickle when, yeah that's just a trickle when the vaulted
is like two. Amps when the voltage drops in the,
battery then it's gonna start charging the bat and automatically
is going to shout off when the battery's.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
Full that's what my brother put on his four wheeler
because he would go months without being able to and
that was WHICH i thought was. Genius i'm not very mechanically, Oriented.
ADRIAN i don't know if you figured that.
Speaker 5 (22:14):
Out it's, okay you don't have to, be but you
need to read your manual bookman or before you start changing.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Stuff and this guy with The, HARLEY i don't know
if he ever changed any electronics on it or if
he upgraded the. Electronics, jacob do you ever change any?
Speaker 1 (22:33):
Electronics?
Speaker 2 (22:36):
Yes, YEAH i changed all the electronics on that bike
over the.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
Years is he still? On?
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Yeah you can't hear?
Speaker 2 (22:43):
Him, NO i can't.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Hear, oh, okay well we're changing our phone, system so
it won't, Matter. Adrian thanks for the, call my, Man,
jacob hold on just a. Second we're gonna we're gonna
do a little sketch artistry on the air and see
if we can and find This Sonoran. Mexican Good. Samaritan,
well now you say Good, samaritan and if it's relevant
(23:08):
to this story for journalistic, purposes all, Right, jacob.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
My.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
Nephew my nephew just sent me another. MESSAGE i woke
him up WHEN i called because he was up all
night with the. Baby they have a new. Baby he, Says,
UNCLE i THINK i was. Wrong don't worry about the charging.
System it's the. Heat harley's are air. Cooled they run
hotter than a lot of. Bikes lithium batteries are sensitive
(23:34):
to high, temps so there's higher risk of it exploding
than in other. Motorcycles can still run, them but it
helps to keep them at a distance from the Motor
thermal runaway over one hundred and forty degrees is What google.
Says harley's get hotter than that very. Easily that's ALL
i got for, you all. Right so the point is
(23:57):
the reason you. Called you really didn't ask for a
lecture on whether you should have put the lithium in
there or. Not is a nice fella host. Stopped so
give me every detail you have described the truck he was.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
DRIVING i don't know what the cab of the rig
looked like or the. Color ALL i saw was he
was pulling a silver. Tanker So i'm assuming he was
pulling gas or petrol or.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
Whatever, well that might narrow it down real. Fast was
was anything written on the side of that, Tanker.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
Not THAT i could see he or noticed at the.
TIME i was kind of in panic.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
Mode, okay so option one to narrow this, Down this
might be real. Easy my BUDDY Jj isbel has the
largest fuel tanker, COMPANY i think in the, country but
certainly in the state Of, texas and That's Trans TEXASS.
TTE i don't know what THE e is. Energy maybe
they also PUT Ptsd foundation Of america on the sides of,
(24:55):
them but you would have noticed that if it had that. Right, Yes,
okay So i'm gonna. Ask and this was at what?
Time four?
Speaker 2 (25:03):
O'clock uh so the bike caught on fire At, yeah
like four four twenty. Six that's WHEN i sent the
picture to my mechanic on the side of the.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Road, okay so four thirty pm On, thursday and you
were at two ninety In.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
Telgi, YEAH i JUST i just passed The telgi. EXIT
i was on my way Towards, Barker, cyprus AND i
was going westbound on two.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
Ninety so you said you live In, Spring, yes, Okay
so when do you cut? OVER i get confused with
north and northwest because people will, say you know Tom,
ball and it feels like they're over in the. Woodlands
but so if you're going two, ninety do you cut
over and go east at some?
Speaker 2 (25:50):
Point, yes at ninety, nine and.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
Then you go ninety nine all the way To? Spring?
Yep how long does that take from? That from from
there to where you live In?
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Spring it was about thirty minutes from WHERE i was
out on the, highway and then it was it's about
forty five minutes To Bear, creek where my mechanic is
located from my.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
House it's crazy how ninety, Nine how ninety nine changed
that Whole Spring Tomball woodlands area and brought it all
in together and made it so much. EASIER i just
tried Out gringo's tex Mex new place at ninety nine
in two forty, nine and it's only been, open it's
(26:37):
just barely been, open and it was just, packed AND
i recognized several people THAT i knew there who came
up and said, hello AND i would say why are
you out? Here and they, said, oh we're just we
just live up you live in the. Woodlands, yeah but
it's not, bad you, know we just hop on ninety.
Nine ninety nine just changes everything for people who live out.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
There.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
