Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's that time. Time, time, time, luck and load. The
Michael darry Show is on the air.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
On the Cross, our Savior said, Father, forgive.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Them, for they not know what they do. That man,
that young man, I forgive him.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Well, believers are seated.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
If there's any in this room and across the globe
that would desire to receive Jesus as their saviors, Charlie
did as a young man, and that was in the
presence of his Savior. I'm going to ask you to
put action to your faith, and I'd ask you to
stand right now to receive the Lord. Don't be ashamed.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Stand amen.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
For those of us who knew Charlie, and even those
of you who may never have had the chance to
meet him in person, we all know and experience how
Charlie spoke with a calm courage, not asking what will
God do for me, but instead praying, God, use me
for your will.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
Christ told us in the Gospel of John, I have
said these things to you that in me you may
have peace.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart,
I have overcome the world.

Speaker 6 (01:28):
We're all created, every single one of us, before the
beginning of time by the hands of the God of
the universe and all powerful God who loved us and
created us for the purpose of living with him in eternity.
But then sin entered the world and separated us from
our creator. And so God took on the form of
a man and came down and lived among us.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
And he suffered like men, and he died like a man.

Speaker 5 (01:54):
But on the third day he rose unlike any mortal man.

Speaker 7 (01:57):
And to prove any doubt or is wrong, he ate
with his disciples so they could see, and they touched
his wounds. He didn't rise as a ghost or as
a spirit, but his flesh. And then he rose to day,
and he promised he would return, and he will. And
when he returns, because he took on that death, because
he carried that cross, we were freed.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
From the sin that separated us from him.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
And when he returns, there will be a new heaven
and a new Earth, and we will all be together,
and we are going to have a great reunion there
again with Charlie and all the people we love.

Speaker 8 (02:31):
One moment, Charlie was doing what he loved, arguing and
debating on canvas, fighting.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
For the gospel.

Speaker 8 (02:41):
Truth in front of a big crowd and then he blinked.

Speaker 9 (02:48):
He blinked.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
And saw his Savior in paradise. That was not a
memorial yesterday, It was a revive. Winston church is a
man who saved England the United Kingdom as we know
it when he was made an honorary American by John F.
Kennedy in nineteen sixty three, and his speech at the ceremony,

(03:14):
Kennedy said, he mobilized the English language and sent it
into battle. There's a great story of Winston Churchill's funeral,
where which he had planned down to the last detail himself.
It was held at Saint Paul's Cathedral in nineteen sixty five.
It was an August moment, but it was a sad

(03:36):
moment because a big piece of jolly old England was
passing and he wouldn't be here with us any longer.
And there was a moment toward the end. Well, it
was the end where taps began to play and an

(04:03):
audible sob was heard over the crowd, not just from
his family and those who knew him best, but from
the nation. This was the end. It was a sad,
rainy day. It was a dark day for England. And

(04:26):
then without anyone noticing the bugler had been perched atop
the cathedral on the opposite side where no one could see.
Just as Winston Churchill had planned, Revere rang out. The
symbolism was not lost on the crowd. Taps signifies the

(04:50):
ending of the day. The dark has descended, our work
is done. Revere opens the day with the hope eternal
of what we're going to accomplish. That memorial yesterday turned

(05:12):
into a revival where Charlie Kirk in his absence, which
will be missed, it will be felt. But Charlie Kirk's
movement has only just begun in thirteen years. What he

(05:34):
built in his career has been in slightly less than
thirteen days grown exponentially two hundred and fifty fold or more.
The whole world stopped to honor Charlie Kirk, but more

(05:57):
importantly to personally mint to a personal revival. We're going
to talk about that revival. We're and talk about some
of the things that were said. We're talking about an
action plan for each of us individually going forward. But
I thought it would be a good thing if we
stopped for a moment, all these thousands and thousands of

(06:19):
new tps TPUSA Turning Point USA chapters that have been
applied for since his death. Who are these kids? Who
are these young people? And so we were going to
do this in the second hour. We're going to play
it now. I spoke to this young man earlier today
and he has applied for a chapter here in Houston,
in a conservative neighborhood. And this liberal, looney leftist tried

(06:43):
to shut down the chapter before it ever started, and
she has been ashamed out of it. But I want
you to hear this young man, and I think it
will inspire hope for our future to stay tuned to this.
So that's a good story. You don't like I'm getting
some kickback money from the cart to Michael Berry show better.
He's got the brains of the mules. As I started

(07:04):
getting emails and alerts from folks on the national scale
about something that was happening in my own backyard of
which I was not aware, and that is that at
Stratford High School in the Spring Branch Independent School District,
some young folks, after Charlie Kirk's assassination, had applied for

(07:28):
a Turning Point USA chapter. And this woman, this liberal
activist woman who presumably lives in the neighborhood. She's part
of a group called Spring Branch Act Spring Branch Democrats.
Her name is Natalie Herpin that she had sent out

(07:49):
an email to a group of seven hundred and thirty
people trying to shut down this chapter. And I heard
from A Cory Morrow, the singer went to Stratford High School.
He reached out to me. A lot of folks locally
all the way up to the national level, said you know,
you need to know what's going on here. And I thought, well,

(08:11):
first of all, adults should not be getting involved in
kids organizations. If there was an act of violence and
you were stopping it, that'd be one thing. But this
is a group of kids starting a chapter and an
adult trying to butt in. This is the worst. This
is bullying, is what it is. One of the folks

(08:33):
who applied for that chapter's name is Jack Robertson, and
I'm delighted to have him as our guest. Jack, Welcome
to the program.

Speaker 9 (08:42):
Howdy, missus Berry, thanks for having me on.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
So did I hear you're a freshman?

Speaker 9 (08:50):
No, sir, I am a junior at Sheppard High School.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
You're a junior, Okay? I was about to say, that's
a lot to come blazing in and already be starting
a chapter. So tell me about what was going on
with you that you wanted to start this chapter, Why
did you want to do that, what led to that?

Speaker 9 (09:07):
So, you know, I got to give credit where credit
is due.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
There's two boys at.

Speaker 9 (09:11):
My school that had originally reached out to Turning Point
to start the chapter, and there is a group of
about fourteen of us really pushing for it, along with
about three hundred others that have engaged and given interest
in the club. But for me personally, you know, I
love the idea of the club and being able to

(09:33):
be a leader for the other students at are school
and hopefully inform, advocate or excuse me, inform, educate and
teach them to advocate for themselves and what they believe in.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
And so, had you started a club before, how did
y'all know what the process was?

Speaker 9 (09:55):
No, sir, So this is my first club to like
officially start and not just join. But we've kind of
just been winging it and we've reached out to sponsors
and we've all last week we weren't in our homeroom
period which were able to do We were going around

(10:15):
asking teachers if they'd be willing to sponsor us, and
we were trying to just get the clubs started and
do what we needed to do.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
And the teachers that did, I'm trying to remember was
one of them a soccer coach.

Speaker 9 (10:33):
I don't know exactly what their positions were, but they
were willing to help out and we appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Of course, they've got a lot of things going on
already and now they're adding one more thing to their plate,
and that's not an easy thing. So you go and
you get a sponsor. I guess you fill out the paperwork.
Y'all started an Instagram age as I understand, I don't
know these things to be true, Jack, I'm just telling
you what's been written.

Speaker 9 (11:05):
You're on the right course.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
And then what happened.

Speaker 9 (11:09):
So we had reached out to potential sponsors, and we
had talked about it on our group to me and
word had gotten out about that, but they were just potential,
they weren't official yet. And then when the news had
leaved about that, things had changed a little bit. We
had gotten a little we had faced a little bit

(11:31):
of a setback. But besides that, it just kind of
motivated us to keep pushing and keep going forward, and
we reached out to some more teachers and got teacher support.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
And that setback was that because of external pressures of
this this group I was mentioning, Yes, sir.

Speaker 9 (11:49):
It was, but that's that's being taken care of now
and that's out of our hands.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
And so what has been the response from your peace
years when they found out because Charlie Kirk has been
in the news, TPA USA has been in the news,
how have your peers reacted, if at all, to this.

Speaker 9 (12:11):
So we've actually just been invigorated. I guess you could say,
you know, we've been inspired to keep going. We've been motivated.
We want to keep our heads up and just be
mature about it all of course, but we're just we're
trying to keep on pushing and get our clubs started,
and we've never felt more motivated to do so.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
And what do you hope to accomplish with this? What
would be a success?

Speaker 9 (12:39):
So with our club kind of a model or phrase
we're workshopping right now. I've had said earlier is inform,
educate and advocate, And what that means is we want
students to we want to inform them about knowledge of
events happening in a local, national, and global scale. We

(13:01):
want to educate them on their rights, constitution, and the
importance of their voice and their vote. And we want
to inspire them to advocate for themselves so that when
push comes to shove or they're faced with discussion or setback,
they're able to stand firm and their values and their beliefs.
And we just we hope to create leaders for the

(13:24):
next generation.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
You know you're supposed to be nervous to be on
the radio. You don't seem terribly nervous.

Speaker 9 (13:32):
Jay No, Sarah, I've got some pretty good parents that
have helped prepare me well.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
Folks know that my policy is I don't speak directly
to miners. I asked that the parents be brought in.
So I did have a nice long conversation with your
father yesterday evening last evening about all of this, and
obviously he's protective of his son and proud of his son,
but he was also eager that you share your story.

(14:01):
And I got to say, the fruit doesn't fall very
far from the tree. You must have very very good
parents because you said yes, Sir Indo, Sir, which puts
you ninety percent of the way to people liking you
before you ever start. So you've got very good parents.
I can already tell Jack, can you hold with me
for just a moment. I want to continue our conversation,

(14:23):
all right, Hang Tiger. Jack Robertson at Stratford High School.
The group that applied for the TPUSA chapter. There was
some outside intershire links. Our guests coming out honor from
Jack roberts Junior at Stratford High School in the Spring
Branch Independent School District, is part of a group of

(14:44):
young folks who applied for a Turning Point USA tp
USA chapter after Charlie Kirk was assassinated. They went around
and followed the procedures, got their sponsors, and an outside
group of liberal leftists activist Spring Branch Independent School or
Spring Branch Democrats tried to intervene, try to stop the

(15:07):
kids from starting a group which is just crazy to me,
just crazy to me. And maybe, you know what, maybe
this will turn out to be the first in a
series of challenges these young people will face and have
to overcome in order to be successful in their lives.
Jack Robertson, as our guest, Jack, what has been the

(15:27):
reaction of young people. You're a junior at the high
school to Charlie Kirk's assassination.

Speaker 9 (15:36):
Honestly, there's been lots of reactions about it. I remember
I was thinking a quiz, so I wasn't able to
hear when it had first happened. But when I got
in my car after school, my friends that all called
me texted me talking about what had happened, and we
were all scared because he was a wonderful leader for
the youth and America. And that seems to be the

(15:57):
idea that many people have had, is how how can
we continue what he's started and continue his legacy, to
make sure that his death.

Speaker 7 (16:06):
Does not.

Speaker 9 (16:08):
Just stayed away.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
You know, I think that's fair to say. You know,
I was a sophomore in high school when the Challenger
space shuttle exploded, and I remember it. It really really
affected me. And shortly after graduation from high school, the
Berlin Wall came down, and I remember, perhaps more so

(16:32):
than today, having a very heightened awareness of these major
events and how they were going to affect the world
going forward. And I think that this event is going
to we'll see what the reaction is. But in the
early days. I have to say it's an event that
twenty thirty years from now we'll still be talking about,
not just because of a trigger that was pulled, but

(16:54):
because of the awakening that occurred. Have you noticed that
young people are perhaps more eager to get involved now
because of this than maybe they would have been before.

Speaker 9 (17:07):
I would agree. I think it's awakened somewhere inside of people.
I think people want to stand up for what they
believe in more. They want to make sure that what
Charlie stood for continues. They want to make sure that
you know, their voices are heard and that what they
believe in is not just going to get drowned out.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
So, without disclosing where it'll be or any of those details,
have you all planned your first meeting? Have you had
your first meeting? When does that happen?

Speaker 9 (17:39):
So once we get officially recognized by the school, which
we're in the progress or process of doing this week,
hope we're hoping to have our first meeting, ideally either
the end of this week or next week, and once
we do that, it can be set up. It's gonna
be great. We're gonna have a location, We're going to
share it to the members this can work out.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Jack. Have you thought about life after high school? What
you'd like to do from there?

Speaker 9 (18:06):
Yes, sir, I'd probably like to go into business or law,
hopefully in Texan and university.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
And do you have a Texas A and M history
in your family?

Speaker 9 (18:19):
Big time, yes, sir.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
And what would you like to study? Do you know?

Speaker 9 (18:24):
Probably business or law? Those two speak to me. I
like to be able to have relationships and hopefully help people.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
And in the course of your high school experience, is
there a course you've taken a particular teacher that really
awakened in you this sort of activism, this this desire
to engage. Obviously that comes from from your home life.
But has there been one teacher that you would say
that teacher really lit a spark for me.

Speaker 9 (18:55):
Teachers not so much. They do a wonderful job at
teaching us, preparing us, but I haven't really been inspired
by them as much. The credit really goes to my
home life, my parents, my grandparents, the people around me
every day that have helped to raise me and make
me who I am.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
Good for you, now, this case has drawn attention across
the country, a lot of media coverage, a lot of
influencer coverage, a lot of Twitter commentary. Have you heard
from other chapters from folks outside who've reached out to
y'all to inspire, to guide, to advise.

Speaker 9 (19:31):
So we've gotten word from just what Attorney General Kim
Paxton has said, you know, telling us keep our heads up,
and a lot of the other posts and reposts about
the viral Twitter post is encouraging the kids to do
keep going. And that's about all. Like the direct communication

(19:55):
we've had besides with you, which we're very appreciative of,
by the way, not just me but the whole And yeah,
that's about That's about the communication we've had.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
And would you like to give the names of some
of your buds in the group that are that are
fellow leaders so they can hear themselves mentioned.

Speaker 9 (20:14):
Yes, sir so, there's about fourteen of us. I can
list them off. That's okay.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
Yeah, I want you to list them up, but I
want you to go real slow and use one word
to describe each one or one little little thing about
each one real quick.

Speaker 9 (20:29):
Yes, sir, So, there's Charlie Dina. He's a great leader
and one of my closest friends. There's Zachary Patrick, he
is another great leader. He's younger stepping up. Same with
Duncan Kirk. The same goes for him as Zachary, both
younger stepping up being great leaders. There's Callan Kirk, Duncan's brother,

(20:54):
and he is a great leader as well. Make sure
keeps us on task. Then you have Kitlor. Kit is
very knowledgeable and wise. He helps make sure that we
stay on the path, just like Callan, and we don't
get sidetracked by the big things. You have Eloise and
Edie Mayhan, and they do a lot to make sure

(21:17):
that we know what we're doing. They communicate with staff
at our school and make.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
Sure that we're well.

Speaker 9 (21:26):
On schedule and things of that sort of. Know when
we're meeting Sam with Sarah Kate Oakland, she does the
same as them, takes notes to make sure that everybody's
involved and included. And then you have Addi Greenway. She
helps with social media and making sure that we appear
nice to the public. Then you've got Jake Curtin. Jake

(21:48):
also helps with notes and communication. Then there is I'm
gonna forget somebody.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Uh oh, did you do this from memory?

Speaker 9 (21:59):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (22:00):
Wow, that's impressive. That is super cool. Son. That is uh,
that is that is really really neat. I like that
a lot. I'm assuming you know about the event this
Wednesday evening.

Speaker 9 (22:18):
I don't know if we're allowed to talk about that yet, right.

Speaker 1 (22:21):
So yeah, I have. I have put in a request
while we've been talking to see if that's going to
be public or private invitation only, and if it is,
I will announce it. What an honor you give me faith,
Jack Robertson, and you keep the faith because you give
me faith in the youth of this country. Wow, thanks

(22:44):
for taking time for us. Fantastic conversation, Arion, Thank you
so much, Thank you so much.

Speaker 9 (22:50):
Listen to the Michael Berry Show podcast and you'll be
the smartest guy in the room. Share with your friends
and you'll be the most popular too.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
I'm always so incredibly proud of widows at their husband's funeral,
and when the husband is young and they've been ripped
away from the family. You can see in the eyes
of a woman her lost love for her husband, but

(23:25):
also a sense of fear and uncertainty because in a relationship,
a man needs a woman or a woman needs a man,
and she knows she's not going to have that man
there for her, and that in and of itself is

(23:47):
you know, my wife does so many things for our family,
for me that I don't know what they all are.
It's a bit overwhelming, you know, like tax day when
you still have it pulled together all your documents, don't
you don't know what you don't know. So in addition

(24:08):
to the purely emotional loss of intimacy, there is all
of that. To see Erica Kirk rise to the occasion
and to see a widow do that anytime, it just
it is powerful, is very powerful. Here's what she said

(24:33):
that with regard to revival.

Speaker 8 (24:37):
Most of all God's mercy and God's love have been
real revealed.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
To me these past ten days.

Speaker 8 (24:44):
After Charlie's assassination.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
We didn't see violence, we didn't see rioting. We didn't
see Instead.

Speaker 8 (25:03):
We saw what my husband always prayed he would see
in this country.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
We saw revival. We saw revival. I really believe that
in the loss, the earthly loss of Charlie Kirk, we're
going to see something that I think he would have

(25:29):
agreed to, and that is that he doesn't get to
be on the field with us any longer. But now
every one of us is going to step up in
ways we never believed possible. We never believed possible, and

(25:49):
that is so exciting to me. And I would ask
you in your own life. This morning on the show,
I had folks call in, and I had a fellow
call in and said, Hey, I've drank too much. My
life's not been what i'd like it to be. I'm

(26:10):
in my seventies, i still work, but I'm going to
go to church and I'm going to be a better person,
and I'm going to be a better husband, I'm going
to be a better father. I'm going to be a
better Christian. And it was a beautiful message. And I
have heard from people throughout the course of the day

(26:30):
who as a Southern Baptist, we'd call it backsliding. So
at our altar call, which we would play to softly
and tenderly, folks could come down and join the church.
They could come down and express that they want to

(26:50):
be saved, and they could come down if they were saved,
but they are, they have that they've been a backslider,
they have lapsed. They can come down and rededicate their lives.
And that was always a very powerful moment for me

(27:11):
as a child now I see it as powerful in
a different way because as a child it was it
was amazing to see grown men weep. And the reason
for that is none of us expected to end up

(27:31):
where we are now, and the opportunity at redemption, opportunity
at a fresh start, the opportunity put the left out
of your mind, put CNN and MSNBC out of your mind.
Some of you cannot do that. You are addicted to
it in a Stockholm syndrome way. But I would ask you,

(27:52):
what are you personally going to do in your life
now as a result of all this? Maryland on the
Michael Berry Show, Welcome, well, hello, welcome.

Speaker 10 (28:05):
I'm sorry, I'm glad to be here. Thank you for
saking my call. I just want to say on one
hundred percent, one hundred percent. The other day I was
ironing one of my husband's shirts and he walked. He said,
and I have some back issues, and my blessed wonderful
that you don't have to iron my shirts. And I said, yes,

(28:29):
I do because I love you and I don't want
you walking out with a wrinkled shirt because other people
might think your wife doesn't love you if I don't
look after you and care for you like I know
I can. And on the flip side, he is I
chose very wisely or God provided is some one wonderful

(28:49):
for me. And he is worthy of honor and respect.
And yes, I vow to love and honor him. You know,
in the math now they don't.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
Say okay, but I do.

Speaker 10 (29:02):
If he's really against something, I listen to him because
he is the head, he takes the leadership role. Yet
I don't feel I don't feel oppressed or visused or
abused in any way. He listens, We talk, and I

(29:23):
love and I thank God every day I have the blessing,
the blessing of being able to serve him in small
ways and in big ways.

Speaker 1 (29:35):
And I'm just getting I'm getting. I get pearid eyed
thinking about him.

Speaker 10 (29:42):
And we've been married almost twenty years, and I just
want to say, that's what a Christian marriage is about.
You serve and you love, and you honor and you respect.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
And in so doing you find happiness for yourself as
much as you give it to the other person. You know,
I have found that you you should not make yourself
vulnerable to the world. You you know, the world's a cold, cool,
cruel place. But you have to find people that you

(30:16):
trust and you invest in them, and when you invest
in them, you love without limits. And when you do that,
it will be repaid worthy. People will repay it, and
if someone doesn't, then they are unworthy. But that is
also why it is important to choose wisely.

Speaker 9 (30:37):
You know.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
I know people that had a one night stand with
a woman and the next day they're ready to get married.
And sometimes it works out because it turns out they
love each other and they get along well. But it
strikes me that if you're looking for a true life
mate rather than just arm candy are a good sexual

(31:02):
partner in the short term, then you have to you
have to be looking for that great investment, not the
perfect investment, because I think a lot of people get
hung up on that, but someone that you can trust,
someone that you can grow with, someone that makes you better,
and someone who is comfortable in who they are so

(31:24):
that they can round off your sharp edges. And you're right, Marylyn,
it makes all the difference in the world. It's the
most rewarding relationship after being a parent, that you have,
and it's the longest relationship that you should have in
your life. Thank you for the call, sweetheart,

I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
