Speaker 1 (00:02):
It's that time. Time, time, time, luck and load. The
Michael Very Show is on the air. You probably know

(00:29):
about now that Robby Kirk passed a couple of hours ago.
He was shot assassinated actually at I think it was
noon odd. At a time like this, details like time
don't really matter, do they. At some point time will

(00:51):
come for all of us. Charlie was only thirty three
years old, too darn young, too much left to do.
But I trust in the plan of the man above.
But I also recognize that it is our duty that

(01:14):
we celebrate and remember, we remember the work that people do,
the deeds they leave behind. August seventeenth, just three weeks ago,

(01:36):
Charlie Kirk posted at twelve forty one pm in the
lunch hour, he posted, It's all about Jesus and that
that popped up for me today. And if you want

(01:58):
a reason, I know, Oh you're mad. I'm mad. I
am mad. I'm not going to say the things I
want to say. And I have heard from a number
of people core listeners, Charlie's supporters, frustrated Americans, wounded Americans,

(02:20):
that you want to hear me scream and holler that
time will come, but not today. It's not what I
see as my purpose. You got your purpose. I got mine.
You post what you want to post, you say what
you want to say, you text what you want to text.
That's your business, not mine. And I'm not saying you

(02:41):
shouldn't do it. That's not what I'm saying at all.
I am saying this that I at a moment like this,
I have always tried to step back from my personal
emotions and contemplate the bigger meaning of it all. Because

(03:01):
there is a bigger meaning to everything. Sometimes we can't
see it. You know. A friend of mine, Sundance had yesterday,
told me he was very upset about Irina Kutrushka, Karuska, Karutzka.
I'm sorry, I'm going to mispronounce that name a thousand times.

(03:24):
It's a Ukrainian name. It ain't Adam Smith. It ain't
easy to me. I don't mean to in any way
reduce her importance or different names different places. But at
the end of the day, the name she was assigned
at birth by her mother is smaller than what her
life represents. The totality of her actions and deeds and

(03:47):
kindness and love, sacrifices, generosity, She mattered Charlie mattered, but
so my friend Sundane's head. He's a singer and a songwriter.
He won the Voice you might remember his name from that.

(04:10):
He got to perform with Kiss highlight of his life
on stage live where that's every musician's dream. But yesterday
he said he was he was really bothered by this
innocent girl being murdered by someone. She didn't know, the

(04:32):
fact that she was a woman and he was a man,
the fact that she was white he was black. When
you strip all that back, the real horror of it
all is that a human being was killed by another
human being for absolutely no reason, for no reason, none
at all. And my buddy was bothered by that. As

(04:55):
the parent of children, he said, you know what, I
can't imagine and getting the news my child has died.
I can't imagine. I think about Charlie's family getting the
news today had been shot. I think about them getting
the final word that he's not going to make it.
There was hope. There was hope, and that's what you

(05:20):
have at a moment, like that's all you have, and
you cling to that hope. You'll make a deal with God.
I'll do whatever you want. I'll stop smoking, eating, running around, lying, stealing,
whatever it is I don't do right, I'll do that right.
That's what people promise in a moment like that, anything

(05:40):
because you're holding on to hope. Please, you're negotiating for
more time, this time that we take for granted. And
my buddy wrote a song. It's pretty brief, and I'm
going to play it because it relates to Charlie's passing today.
I was going to play it tonight anyway. I was
going to play it in reference to the shark, the
Charlotte murder that was connected. That was that? Yeah, that happened?

(06:07):
How about that? And and I was going to play
it for a reason to make a point, in addition
to the fact that I think it's a beautiful song.
Where was He just recorded this on his iPhone last
night at two twenty two and he sent it to
me and I woke up to it this morning. Just
give it a listen if you would, and I'll explain
to you why I played it in relation to Charlie's

(06:29):
assassination today.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Did she do it? To it?

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Just better.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
To oba? Did she died a big circle that kept
his song in sad? Did she died the darnst with
the line wrong him of rats only one man.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Reason she had a due. So if you know my
friend's ed, you know that he has gone through the

(07:25):
peaks and valleys of National winner of the Voice, performing
with kiss, who work in the overnight shift, underpaid, away
from his wife and kids, washing down oil tankers and
everything in between. And he makes his living with his
guitar and his voice and his words. And if you know,

(07:46):
that's his ministry, that's his purpose, and he's found it,
he's living it. And he was in the ravages of
alcoholism and it damn near took him down and he
gave his life over to the Lord. And part of
what he does when he's singing, whether it's a bar
or a church, is that he shares that ministry when

(08:10):
he says in there that only he knows why that
girl had to doctor. Only he knows why Charlie had
to die. And it isn't the person who stabbed as
the person who shot. You can capitalize the h This
is the Michael Barry Show at two forty eight pm today,
a couple of hours after Charlie Kirk He's been shot.

(08:34):
Weary while speaking at an event on a campus in Utah.
Turning Point UK, which is part of the organization Charlie led.
Turning Point USA, posted Charlie is alive and fighting in hospital.

(09:00):
He's joined us in praying for him. I was getting
reports from within the organization, within our mutual friend group
up until the moment that President Trump announced that he
had been assassinated, that he had gone to meet the Lord,

(09:20):
that there was still a pulse. Lynn Beck had reported
that he had been told there was still a pulse.
Gun's daughter was at the event where Charlie was speaking,
and that he was in surgery, that there was hope.

(09:42):
Charlie's a fighter, you know. Not all heroes wear capes.
Not all bad asses or big bulky guys, or a
great shot with a weapon or fantastic hand to hand fighters,
rappers or whatever or else. Everybody has a tool, an

(10:04):
instrument by which they can serve God, by which they
can protect others, make others think. And there were people
reporting Charlie's death before he had officially expired. Now, I'm

(10:29):
not going to spend a lot of time on media
coverage here. I've already spoken about that earlier. The time
and place to discuss media coverage is maybe another day.
But I will say this, be careful getting all your
news from people whose job it is to get the

(10:50):
most clicks or likes or eyeballs, or for that matter,
of talk radio, because some of these people are warped
and twisted and they care most about the number of people.
Quantity over quality, clout overcorrect. Just because something is being

(11:17):
reported doesn't make it true. People report things because somebody
told them something, and that's someone who told them something
might have heard it from someone else, and that person
might have just had a gut feeling. There are all
sorts of things that go into all of this. I'm

(11:37):
sure there will be a number of things reported reported
about Charlie's death that won't be true, some of which
will be designed to incite, some of which will be
designed to tarnish him. I mean, that is the game
that is played, But you and I we don't live
in a game. His wife is not more tonight that

(12:02):
the game got the better of him, that he didn't
finish his speech. She's mourning the loss of the fellowship,
the shared burdens and joys of marriage, of parenting his children.

(12:26):
I think his youngest was about a year and a
half and I think he's oldest was about three and
a half. I don't care if he Charlie Kirk or
the local plant worker where you're unemployed or you're a billionaire.
Family wants family, children want mommy and Daddy took him

(12:48):
in at night, and he won't get to do that.
And that hurts my heart so much, not just for
Charlie's kids, but for every child for which that happens.
And to have that be the result not of an
accident or disease, we understand that, but of a choice

(13:10):
made by a human being to take from Charlie his
own life, but to take from his children their father.
You have to be a sick and twisted soul to
be in that position. And yes, I join with you
in warning that person punished to the fullest extent of

(13:31):
the law. And yes, I understand the anger and the rage. Yes,
the only thing that helps me through all of this
is that I didn't have to report it live on air,
because I certainly would have said things that would then
be recorded that I wished I hadn't, not because they

(13:53):
weren't true, not because they're not authentic, and in many cases,
because they're not healthy in their life good. Our job
is not now to become the left. We are better.
We are better than that The Michael Berry Show, Michael

(14:14):
Berry Show. We are all going to meet that moment.
We just don't know what day to put on our calendar.
I am not a fatalist in that sense. I am
a devout Christian who believes in God's plan. The very

(14:37):
complicated thing to understand how God can allow Charlie Kirk
to pass when here was a man in service to
help not just his countrymen, but humanity, A man who
was loving his wife and the children brought into this world.

(15:03):
Why him? When there are people so old they wish
they could go. Their prayer is to be taken by
God because their earthly shackles are painful, withered, they've lost
everyone else they love. Why Charlie. I spent all afternoon

(15:28):
thinking about whether he would alter his schedule if he knew,
and I don't know that he would. How many people
could say that call me naive, but I always try
to look at what you can take out of a

(15:49):
situation the following day, how we can be better till
the day we too are gone. I'm not accepting of
what happened today. I'm not in any way tolerant of
it or from it. I'm just not going to say
things right now that are not a good use of

(16:14):
my energy. I might say, I'm in private. I do
not believe in weakness in the face of evil. I
believe in justice. A number of folks email me today hurting,

(16:38):
and I understand that what I do. And I don't
think I'm any bigger or better than Clay and Buck
or Glenn or Sean or Jesse or Mark or Michael
Savage or any of the other hosts you may listen
to people you may follow Megan Kelly, that is that
is not my belief. Each of us has a role,

(17:04):
just like every teacher, mother or father, janitor, plant worker, cop, firefighter.
It is not my place to do that. It is
my place for me personally, which I will share with you,
which is really what our show is. I'm not here
to preach to you. I'm not here to tell you

(17:24):
how to live your life or how to react on
a daylight today. Who am I to do that? What authority?
By what authority would I do that? I can just
share with you my thoughts and maybe some suggestions, which
you're free to take or leave as you like. A

(17:44):
number of people reach out to me calling for anger
and violence, to which I say, are you first? Are
you first to age and violence? Probably not. Most people
who want violence want other people to carry it out.

(18:07):
Maybe they'll get their popcorn and watch. Well. I got
news for you. When you engage in violence, you risk
violence against you, You risk violence against your own spouse
and kids. I've had the benefit of the experience of

(18:27):
talking to a lot of people who served in war,
and not one of them ever said when they came
home that was fun. Wish I could have stayed longer.
Wish I could have killed more and watched more killed
on my side. It's dirty, man, It's awful, it's painful.

(18:48):
It is not in our nation's interest to be split
in this way. Charlie Kirk had posted, we don't have
to live like this. What good words to live by?
We don't. It doesn't have to be like this. We
can make changes. We should not shirk from our duty

(19:12):
to pursue truth, not just for the sake of truth,
but for future generations, just as it was done for us.
There were Charlie Kirks who came before Charlie Kirk. Some
of them were killed. I think of Nathan Hill's great line,
I regret that I have but one life to live

(19:32):
for my country. I think he was eighteen years old
at the time. Wow to face down death in that manner.
A number of folks who do what we all do,
which is try to shape opinion, try to make people
think with dialogue and discussion and facts and perspective and
opinion and truth fearlessly. I think how many of us

(19:56):
have said, man, Charlie makes me nervous going on on
those campuses. He makes me nervous, But you know what,
he understood the risks. And I think that is one
of the greatest tributes to Charlie is that Charlie Kirk

(20:20):
was fearless. How many people are fearless. How many people
believe in their faith so much they're willing to die
for it. How many people believe in truth in the

(20:41):
American way, in our future so much so that they're
willing to walk into the belly of the beast, the
eye of the hurricane. I always feared that this would happen,
that it could happen to President Trump, who was shot.
Other attempted to a side after that. Charlie should be

(21:04):
honored for his bravery to do what he did as
long as he did The Michael Berry Show, Michael Verry Show. Well,
America is in mourning right now. It is a sad, tragic,

(21:32):
horrible day. Charlie Kirk has been assassinated. And there is
no sense to make of this, no way around that.
There is no sense to make of this, just anger

(21:52):
and bitterness. You know, one of the most wise things
I saw, one of the most measured things I saw,
was from a guy whose name you will recognize, maybe

(22:13):
because he threw a baseball very well, and also because,
like Charlie, he was very blunt and unafraid in a
world of cowards. John Rocker, I don't have the quote
in front of me, but it's stuck with me for
the last well, I don't know, six hours or so,

(22:36):
five hours, four hours since he said it. He said,
Charlie Kirk was just trying to make improvements in our
country through open conversations and dialogue. He didn't take up
a gun, He didn't try to subdue people physically, he

(23:04):
believed until the moment he died in discussion. You know,
we're going to disagree on things. Transgenders into schools, converting
our kids to death penalty, gun policies, has policies, we disagree.

(23:28):
That's not unique to Americans, It's not unique to our time.
It goes back to the beginning of time. We can
disagree on what time we're going to eat dinner, or
we can disagree with our child whether that's the right
person for them to marry, or we can disagree with
our boss over whether this is the best way to
accomplish a task or the best use of our time.

(23:49):
We disagree on everything. It's healthy, it can be fun,
it's stimulating. But what we cannot do is devolve into
the saddest state of affairs of having to kill someone

(24:10):
physically violently because we cannot express our opinion vis a
vis them. Charlie Kirk did what almost nobody who does
what we do did. He didn't sit behind a microphone.

(24:38):
He didn't hide behind a television camera on a TV
set in a building secured by tough men. He went
out on to campuses. He talked to young people. I
don't want to do that. Hell, Rush didn't even do

(25:02):
that for a long time before he passed. Charlie had
a ministry, a purpose, vision, and even people who vehemently
disagree with that should respect that this is not how
you resolve disagreements. You don't even have to resolve disagreements.

(25:25):
You can agree to disagree. So all I'm gonna say
for today, there will be a lot more in the
heat of the moment. I've come to learn, after a
lot of years in public life that my immediate emotions
are not always something that I'm later proud of expressing,

(25:51):
because I have run the gimmick today. Hope, hope that
Charlie was alive, anger that this happened, And of course
I can't deny it like everybody else, I blame it
on certain people and things and movements and words, organizations.

(26:14):
And there'll be time for that conversation. I just determined
that that time was not right now. But I know
you are hurting. Whether you loved Charlie, likes Charlie, tolerated Charlie,
didn't know much about Charlie. You recognize what this means.
You recognize what this moment in our country means. Do

(26:34):
not become the left. I'm not saying turn the other
cheek because I'm not Jesus Christ. He was the son
of God, he was perfect, I'm not I'm angry. I
have thoughts, but for now, I will pray. I will
pray for Charlie's eternal soul, and I will pray for

(26:55):
his wife and his two children. And I will pray
for our nation.
