Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Michael Berry Show.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Welcome to our weekend podcast. This is still a kind
of new thing for us. I've received a lot of
feedback from y'all. In fact, one person said, hey, why
are y'all just saying Saturday podcasts and then there's another
one Saturday podcast and then Saturday podcast or weekend podcast.
That's lazy, that's no good. And I said, hey, hey, hey,
(00:23):
calm down. Our team jumped up when I said, hey, guys,
I'm getting a lot of requests from more content. Let's
make more content. We already do more radio than ninety
nine point nine percent of people in radio, five hours
live per day. We speak for across the country, one
hundred companies. It's a long week. We keep a very
(00:46):
active newsletter going. We create our own bits. I mean, look,
I'm not asking for a pat on the back. Some of
you are out there digging ditches in the heat. I
get it. I'm not you, But we're not lazy, and
we don't mail it in. If we use audio for
a second time, it's because it's good audio. And I
can't make that point a different way. If I've got
(01:07):
to show you the video, U we don't have video,
but get the point here. If I got to show
you the video of Donald Trump being shot in the head,
and I have to show it the second time, so
you get the point. Nobody says you alught to show that.
So relax, We're not lazy. You don't need us to jump.
There's three percent of you who send these emails. But
that's who this is dedicated at. I'm tired of being
(01:28):
told that if you don't like something, it's lazy. I
don't work for you. The show is free. We bust
our ass because we love doing this show, and we
love the feedback we get from people who enjoy it.
And we love when people tell us that, in some small,
goofy way, we made a difference in their lives. Man,
that's it. That's that's a high like you can't imagine.
(01:51):
I had a guy told me he went to Afghanistan
serving in the military and listening to me, and he
heard my testimony one day and he came home and
he rededicated his life to Christ and fixed his life
and he's proud of the man he is now. And
he just wanted me to know that. And I said, wow,
that's a lot. That's heavy. Man, that's heavy. But in
(02:14):
any case, the email was about Hey, the tone was
all wrong, but the idea was right. Oh you lazy,
you just call him Weekend our guy, Darryl Coonda Man.
He didn't even think about it. Was the first podcast
he started loading. He took over the Weekend podcast. So
we said, hey, Coonda Man, if you don't mind, just
(02:36):
start labeling them as to who I talk to and
what I talk about, so that if somebody wants to
go find something later, they can find it. They don't
have to look through just Weekend Podcast one, Weekend Podcast two.
He said, I don't even think about that. So your
suggestions are definitely taken to heart. We're not cracker barrel.
We care what you think, and we don't hate you.
(02:57):
We love you, and we wouldn't get to do what
we do if it wasn't for you. So when you
have suggestions, criticisms, additions, subtractions, whatever you have for the show, recommendations,
just remember I'm reading a lot of emails, and so
in the middle of reading emails your email comes in,
just maybe take a slightly softer tone. We're not lazy,
(03:22):
and if you like our show and you're talking to me,
why not talk in a tone, because I tend to
snap back. I'll stay up till two o'clock in the
morning to finish reading every email every day, and sometimes
at about one forty five, I might have had a touch,
just a nip of bourbon. I might have had won
too many cigars, and I might know that I should
(03:44):
have been in bed four hours ago. But before I
can go to bed, I gotta finish reading every email,
because if you take the time to write it, I
take the time to read it. So in any case,
here we go. Truck drivers have been in the news
of late. Well. One of the issues in the news
is these drivers, eighteen wheeler truck drivers coming here who
(04:08):
don't even speak English. This Punjabi fellow from California, who
was in the country illegally family ends up dead because
of his insane actions while driving his truck. So President
Trump now Fox News reporting this week that the federal
government will revoke funding for California, New Mexico, and Washington
(04:32):
if they do not fully enforce English language proficiency as
a requirement to get a driver's license. You cannot be
out driving on our roads, especially not an eighteen wheeler.
If you can't understand the basic traffic laws and messages
that would be posted.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
The Department of Transportation announcing formal action against three states
for failing to enforce federal English language proficiency requirements for
commercial motor vehicle drivers. Listen here that.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
Time period, we've identified several states that have not been
a compliance. That would be Washington, California, and New Mexico.
Those are the three states that have not complied with
this rule. We are going to give these states thirty
days to come into compliance with truck drivers speaking proficiently
(05:24):
the English language, or we're going to look at federal funding.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Okay, So the reason this is important, Bill, you were
with me yesterday. We were talking to the state of
Florida because they have just started to require these English
language proficiency tests at way stations for commercial truck drivers.
This after the Indian driver who didn't speak any English
killed three people in.
Speaker 5 (05:46):
April, and you were curious kind of how those English
tests work. I think you said it's sixteen different questions,
also involving road signs. But yeah, Florida bringing the hammer down.
You just heard Sean Duffy say there, if you don't
get up to par with this, we're gonna start removing
some of your federal funding. And they announced yesterday they're
turning all of their way stations in agriculture checkpoints into
federal immigration enforcements. So any of these like illegal immigrant
(06:07):
drivers who are out there with IDs from different states,
there's a lot of way stations in the state of
Florida and they might start getting caught up soon.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
So Seann Daffy just announcing that, and we'll no doubt
they'll be more. And I don't know if he will
be at the cabinet meeting that's happened at at eleven,
so this could be a question that the president gets
there as well.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
So one of the things that really upset me about
about the Republican Rhinos is their unwillingness to fast track
President Trump's nominations, which is something that has been done
in the past as a courtesy. John Thune is not
(06:46):
our friend, but the news broke that he is now
altering the Senate procedure to allow Trump's nominations to be
fast tracked. Now, one of the things they do is
something called recess appointment. So when Congress goes home to
you know, go have the lobbyists take them to ball
(07:07):
games and hang out and fly all over the world
because they don't want to stay in DC and work.
They are in recess, and so presidents are still appointed.
It takes a long time to do the background on
a judicial candidate, judicial nominee, and so as those come out,
you want to get those judges on the bench, so
those benches can get to work, so the cases can
(07:29):
be heard well as the president sends those up. If
the senate's in recess, you can move those through. But
what Thune has been doing is keeping a person in
the Senate, keeping just enough of an operation going in
the Senate that Trump can't do that. He's actually putting
(07:49):
obstacles in the way of Trump doing his job. And
that's not what he campaigned on. And I think a
lot of Americans don't.
Speaker 6 (07:58):
Know that Senate majority of the John thun says Democrats
filibustered each of the President's nominees, even some which were
not controversial. Thuon says that has never happened before. As
a remedy, Republicans want to alter Senate procedure to make
it easier to speed through nominees.
Speaker 7 (08:17):
This neece stuff is just silly, and I'm tired of it.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Just going through things that I had held over from
the week's sort of interesting. CNN is reporting that Democrats
are not happy because the Democrat Party is being forced
to pay off the debt of Kamala Harris's expensive, failed
twenty twenty four campaign along with Joe Biden's legal.
Speaker 7 (08:41):
Bills the morning after Kamala Harris lost last November. The
problem that he is facing is that the depression among
Democrats is really there, and he has a lot of
both mental and literal debts that he has to be
paying at the At the there's been a lot of
problem with fundraising, a lot of Democrats who are not
(09:04):
willing to put the money there, and also millions of
debt from Kamala at Harris's campaign that I get into
in the story up on our site that has never
really been reported before exactly what happened. And even hundreds
of thousand dollars of debt or payments that are going
to Joe Biden's legal bills for the oversight hearings that
are on Capitol Hill. It's a lot of things that
(09:25):
are coming together and making it even more difficult for
Democrats as they are trying to figure out the way
forward into the midterms next year and beyond.
