(00:00):
Welcome in Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning SportsTalk. I am Anthony White along with
Jack Pilgrim and Larry Vaut Comedy fromClark's Main Street Market Studios in downtown West
Kentucky, Return Refresher Field. Weare bringing to you the best sports radio
show in the state of Kentucky. Those are Anthony Whites and Anthony White's thoughts

(00:23):
alone, and those are not mythoughts because I am hosting the show.
Those are my thoughts because you haveguys like Larry Vaught and Jack Pilgrim,
who lines up guests like just KatisUK's tied end who's doing great things as
humanitarian as well as great football playerUK volleyball emmcgrom and Eleanor Bevin. We

(00:49):
have them coming on later on.But are you prepared for him of this
time? Yeah, you see,I got my hat turn backwards in case
it gets Hey, Casey get physical. Man. She kind of puts you
down last time. So we're gonnasee if you can rebound. Chain looked
at my stats, maybe this timestats, but I say this is the
best because you can catch it JackPilgrim. Throughout the week, you can

(01:11):
check catch Jack Pilgrim seven days aweek. You can also catch Larry Vaught
seven days a week. The onlydifference is you never catch them both together.
So that's why this is the bestship in the state. And you
got me hosted. So with thatbeing said, Jack Pilgrim, how is
it going this morning? And thankyou for being with us. I'm not

(01:34):
gonna lie. I'm a little jealous, Anthony. The fact that you guys
are both in the studio getting youknow, chalk it up and you know,
just hang out and get to thebottom of things, while I just
you know, calling it on Miami. It sits. The jealousy is officially
hitting. So are you guys havingfun over there? I'm lonely over here.
Well, you've done it long enoughuntil you went in the fatherhood that

(01:57):
Larry's done with fatherhood. I don'thave fatherhoods. I'm not done with it.
In case my son just drove offthe road or something. He was
listening right there, so I'm notjumping out the window orthing like that.
It's just okay, just settle down, right, Anthony. So dull.
So you had I got a fewyears left and they come on now,

(02:19):
man, So you had perfect reasonto leave the studio. But other than
that, I was follow you.I follow you on Twitter, which is
a good follow if you don't fallon follow. Jack Pilgrim kssorry for a
whole bunch of basketball, Take allkinds of basketball, take all day long,

(02:40):
kind of just all day TV,all day radio, all day Internet,
all day surfing, whatever you want. And I saw that you were
watching some basketball, and I'm alittle bit upset that I did not know
this was going on because I sawmy nephew, Jazz for Johnson in a

(03:00):
Wolfford County Woodford uniform, and I'mthinking, I know he's not returning to
Woolford, so where are they planning. I know they are not playing Woodford
because Dennis would have invited me.But Jack Pilgrim was there, so you
were partaking in it, but Ididn't. I didn't know what was going
on because I'm not on the beaklike you are. Yeah. Yeah,
man, it was Uh, itwas last minute. So I was actually

(03:23):
there the night before at Woodford.Nate, his agent, who also acts
as his trainer to it, didn'teven know that was that was the case,
invited me out there for a workoutwith Jasper Malachi was supposed to be
there as well, but I thinkhe got little dinged up the day before
and was kind of resting his bodyahead of this this weekend schedule and going

(03:46):
into the night. He did notplan on playing on on Friday at the
KBC Titans shootout in Shelbyville. ButI think, you know, they talked
it over a little bit and we'relike, man, we don't know what's
going to happen for our our senioryear of high school. Woodford still is
technically on the table. Maybe notthe favorite, but you know, they

(04:08):
have some some cool options to siftthrough. And you know, when you're
in a jasper's position and you're aconsensus top ten recruit, five star,
you know, one of the bestshot makers in high school basketball, you
know, you kind of put yourselfin a position to kind of make cool
decisions like this, where you know, when your dad's the ad at Woodford
and they're playing in a you know, summer exhibition game, you know,

(04:31):
right down the road and it's alive period where coaches can come see you,
and you're about to you know, walk out the door to your Illinois
visit. And followed by that withthe Alabama visit you can kind of pull
some strings and say, hey, what do you think about a little homecoming
game for us? You know.So it was I mean it was like
eleven o'clock the night before when thedecision was finally made. They kind of

(04:55):
talked things over while I was thereand you know, really settled in and
say, you know what, whynot have this cool opportunity for him to
rep you know, the Black andGold one more time or maybe just the
start of what's to come and hissenior year, but at minimum give him
a chance to suit up with hisold teammates and old friends, you know,
lifelong friends that he's made at WoodfordCounty. And it was a cool
event. Man. It was reallyreally cool to see him suit up,

(05:17):
you know, knock some of therust off a little bit early, wasn't
making a ton of shots, andthen finished really really strong for a double
digit win for Woodford County over FernCreek on Friday with Mark Pope and attendance.
Pat Kelsey was an attendant. Itwas you know, packed Jim over
here in Shelbyville, which is fourminutes away from my house. So that

(05:38):
didn't get much better than that forme. I'm kind of thinking, Anthony,
you put Jasper Beck in that woodfor Jersey, and you're thinking,
now he's cut himself, as he'sreally established, as Jack was saying,
he's got a golden medal. Now, maybe with nil out there, maybe
he didn't need to go somewhere elseto play this next year. Maybe he
can just come back home and livewith us and cash a few inn io

(06:01):
checks. And I don't want tojust stay right in Versa and Alexida sales,
Pumpy breaks. Larry. I'm justsaying this, Larry, you,
my man, you, you, uncle, grandfather, whatever, Larry to
Jasper. And I don't know ifyou've heard rumors on the type of money
he's looking to make where he's atbecause of the exposure that they have at

(06:25):
Links and other and other people whoare court who are a courting him,
that if they got that type ofmoney. If you and I'm not,
this is very high. So donot take this as fact. If you,
if you have a half a milliondollars to offer him to stay at
Woodford County, I can see that. And I'm sure wood For County people
have it. They have it.They have five hundred thousand dollars offer him

(06:46):
and it may be worth it,may be a national person no matter where
Jasper is would be interested. Hmm, I need to talk you talking to
the right people. I'm talking tothe wrong people. I do know,
I do know. We looking atsix figures wherever he's going to play.
I just don't know if the allureand the colleges is easier for colleges to
come see two or three players thatare playing with him that they want that

(07:10):
and even the NBA wants to seethe talent where if it comes to Woodford.
And this is why I want toask Jack. Jack, there was
a I'm not sure if the boomkid is actually going for Woodford that just
played for this team, But isthe Is the boom Kid one of the
top top kids in the state fromLexington. Yeah, and he's official.
He's enrolled at Woodford. He's adone deal. He will be he will

(07:32):
be there kind of anchoring piece dependingon what happens with Jasper. But yeah,
Rmelo Boon is awesome coming from FrederickFrederick Douglas. Yeah, he's he's,
for my money, one of thetop players in the state for this
class of twenty twenty five. Youknow, long athletic skill, just kind
of endless motor type of kid,you know, two way threat, high

(07:55):
level defender. I love, love, love Armelo. You know, I
think he's going to end up ata Western or an E. K.
U. Morehead, one of thosetypes of schools. You know, maybe
explodes as a senior and and kindof gets to that high major level as
well. You know, he's thatlevel of talent. But you know,
I think Western right now is theearly failure for him, but not a
bad complimentary piece if Jasper does ultimatelydecide to come home, and I will

(08:20):
say, Anthony, I think there'sa better chance of him returning home to
play at Woodford than there is forhim to return to Link next season.
So I think I think Woodford isis an option, and I think there
are a couple other high profile optionsthat you know, I think they're really
really prioritizing being a McDonald's All Americankind of pushing all of his chips in

(08:43):
on on strength and conditioning and youknow, developing his body and getting ready
physically as the best guard in highschool basketball going into his college year.
He wants his first year in collegeto be a you know, one where
he can be an instant impact guy, you know, an immediate playmaker and
shooter and scorer. So this, this last year is really really important.

(09:05):
I think, you know, peopleare wondering about the reclass of possibility and
you know, jump to twenty twentyfour. He is technically able to.
But I think they've kind of pushedtheir chips in on twenty twenty five and
saying, man, let's let's gofind the best option for us here with
one last season in high school whereverthat may be, maybe next to other
elite talent, maybe you know, ensuring we could be a McDonald's All American

(09:30):
improve that. You know, JasperJohnson is the best guarden in high school
basketball. So I think I thinkthat's priority number one right now. You
and Larry know some stuff, y'allcome on here, y'all hold got stuff,
y'all back pockets, y'all hold up, because you and Larry on the
same page. And that ain't thatain't normal. I'm out in the blue
man. So if nephew's coming backin town, like, I give some

(09:50):
of that black and yellow, blackand yellow, black and yellow. But
Larry vaut I did not get achance to ask you before we started the
show, how was your week bandand your weekend, because that's when you
do most of your running around.I know last week I said you were
like Tupac Shakur. You get aroundwhat what you get into? This weekend,
it's been a little different week.I've had a few things. Gonna

(10:11):
lost man that I really respect thisweek and be going to his service at
all. Had a few little things, so I've been kind of confined right
around the house a lot. I'lljust wait for for some different things.
So didn't get to get out anddo quite as interesting things as I have
the last few weeks. But it'sbeen good. It's been good, all

(10:33):
right. Well, hm, thatwas something I would have liked to have
at the end of the show. But yeah, our prayers are with you
and you and your friend's family. We do have an action packed show lined
up. We're gonna talk a lotof n I l We got a lot
of great people in the University ofKentucky's campus football volleyball. Our baseball team

(10:54):
did not make it through last week. They did not survive Texas A and
M. They went down one tofive in Florida. I don't think they
could find enough defense. Larry Vaultfour to fifteen. I did not watch
the game, but fifteen runs isa whole lot of runs, and for
our team, four runs just reallyain't enough. Yeah, but you know,

(11:18):
Texas A and M did beat Tennesseeyesterday. There one went away from
being the national champion. So it'sgonna be SEC champion no matter what,
no matter what, and they playagain today at two o'clock. I believe
it is. And so yeah,it's gonna be an SEC champion. But
what a great year still the baseballteam had. It's just an amazing,
amazing season with all that they did. So kudos to those guys for all

(11:39):
that they did. And now theygot to kind of start retooling. They
lose a lot of players for differentreasons. They've already got I think eight
or nine guys in the transfer portalcommitted, including six pitchers. I believe
it is. So there's gonna bea big shake up in what they do
next year. But Nick seems tohave the formula for making it work.

(12:01):
Well. We did play eight tryingto salvage something against Florida. We did
play eight pictures, so we doneed to get some pitching in it because
nobody can stop the bleeding. Yeah, and they lose about seventy percent of
their innings from this year. Wow. So they've got a lot of young
pictures coming back, but they havegone into the transfer port. They're gonna
bring in a lot of older picturesto go with them. And the older
pictures they brought in this year werereally good for him. I believe in

(12:24):
Mark Stoops. I believe in MarkPope. I believe in Kenny Brooks.
I believe in Nick Min's Young.I believe in Rachel Lawson. I believe
in Greg Skinner. Yeah. Ibelieve in our coaches. Changes don't bother
me. They seem to go withthe changes. They seem to go with
the times, and we're going tokeep going on with the times. We
will be back after this. You'relistening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk

(12:46):
on news Radio six thirty w LAP. Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports
Talk. I'm Anthony White along withJack Pilgrim and Larry Vaught. Stockyards Bank
at your trusted partner since nineteen ofour. Head on over to syb dot
com for all of your banking andfinancial needs Jack Pilgrim. We were talking

(13:09):
before we wanted to break about theTitans Classic. I think you said it
was right down the street from you. I don't know if you had anything
to do it's setting it up.But if you can drive four minutes,
little Billy ain't gonna mind you leavingfor a little while. You watched my
nephew, you watch some Lexington. What else is there any notable other people?

(13:33):
I know you named some coaches.I know you said. Now,
I saw a picture of Pope there, and I saw a picture of Pope
and my man Dino, Dennis Johnsonwhat they call dapping up. That is
what the youngsters call it, dappingeach other, drip on or something.
They say, Yeah, what else? What else did you see down there?

(13:54):
What else was going on that mightbe noble in the state, not
just Kentucky, just the state general. It's Malachai Marino. Malacky is putting
on a show. Has great crossingin the I believe semi finals today,
I think last night, and theyhe's been dominating every single time he's taken

(14:16):
the floor, you know, emergingas not just the best big in Kentucky
high school basketball, but the bestcenter in his twenty twenty five class in
general. So like if you justthink big picture here in what is happening
in the state and kind of theknock that you know, go through the
Cow era and you know in stateguys that cow really didn't pursue and just

(14:39):
because the talent really wasn't Kentucky levelyear after year. I mean there were
a couple of exceptions and some misseson Col's part, but you know,
there was never a time where youjust had to go get the number one
player out of the state every singleyear under Col. Now you look at
it and you just had you know, read Shepherd. You're now having Trent

(15:01):
Noah and Travis Perry, you signedboth. And then for the next season,
in the next class twenty twenty five, you have Jasper Johnson arguably the
best guard in high school basketball andyou know all around score. And then
you have Malachai Moreno ranked is thenumber one center in the class of twenty
twenty five as well. Where offersfrom everybody talk to talking to him,

(15:24):
you know, do an interview withhim. He says that Pope has pushed
all his chips in on him, saying, you know, we want you
to you know, keep staying onthe trajectory that you are right now.
We love your development, we lovehow things are progressing. You don't need
to go challenge, you know,go go to the prep route and go
you know, Mott Verd or aLink Academy or anything to kind of prove
yourself. You were able to dothat at Foeba's. You were able to

(15:46):
do that with you with USA basketball, MVPA Top one hundred Camp, every
opportunity at the national stage that he'shad to prove himself, he has done
that. And UK has basically said, dude, we want you as is,
however you want to come, let'smake this thing happen. So to
have two of the best players inthe class, both from you know,

(16:07):
fifteen minutes at most away from youryour home gym in Lexington Man's that's Kentucky
high school basketball is a really reallygood spot. And you know some other
twenty twenty six is as well,to keep an eye on. Take Anny,
you know, Gabe White's, acouple others, Jayden Johnson. The
Kentucky high school basketball is in avery very very good spot right now.
So these are all Kentucky teams. One, they're all Kentucky teams. Second,

(16:30):
who's in the h you said inthe semi finals? What are there's
four teams in the semi finals? And is this be able to be viewed
Anywhere's prep SPAN or any of theselocal network NFHS, any of those have
these games being broadcast streaming, youknow, it's Baller TV, and it's
unfortunate that you have to do ayou know, subscription to be able to

(16:56):
get in on that. So notthe easiest chance to watch these games.
I think they give you like alittle minute preview to just see what you're
looking at once the event starts.I'm looking at pulling up the schedule right
now to see how last night's game. I had something I had to do
late last night, so I didn'tget to see how the late games went,
but I'm pulling it up right now. We have a great crossing against

(17:19):
Manual today at one o'clock in thefinal four, with Mail and sane X
on the other side of the bracketat noon, so those two will pair
off at noon and one o'clock, and then at four o'clock you get the
KBC Titan Shootout Championship. And there'sa very real chance that Malachi Moreno is
playing in it, and yeah,UK coaches have been in attendance for him

(17:45):
all weekend. I think Brad Caliperiwas in attendance for him yesterday representing Arkansas
because now Brad Caliperi is now afull time recruiting assistant for coach cal at
Arkansas. So uh yeah or notgiving buddy, let me tell you that
boom, Larry Vaughn, that youguys used to be title town. And

(18:08):
I thought that Louisville football probably wasa little bit better than Lexington football.
I'm not sure about Danville or Boyle, but uh, Jack just named three
Louisville teams and summer ball, summerball, settle down, settle Down,
summer ball. Well, I don'twant I don't want the city of Louisville

(18:29):
to take over. Man. Youknow, Lexington is where where I reside.
Neither one of you resided. Iresided. I remember that there was
a time when Louislle basketball was highschool basketball was really really good. Is
did uh is Daryl Griffin? Didhe go to high school in Louisville?
Yes, he did. Louisville Mail, Okay, I didn't know that,
all right, I did not knowthat. And uh, what's the guard
name to play for the Knicks allfor the years? The shooter back in

(18:55):
the nineties or mid early nineties.I can't think of it. Jan It's
it's it's when I we find out. I'm gonna find out over a break.
Once we find out, we willknow. But we're gonna continue this
conversation after this break. When wecome back, we will find out if
Louisville is taken over lex to No, we're not. We're not gonna do
that, but we're gonna keep talkingsports. After this we'll be back.

(19:15):
You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday MorningSports Talk on news Radio six thirty WLP.
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning SportsTalk. I am Anthony White along
with Larry Vaut and Jack Pilver. This our Sunday Morning Sports Talk has brought
to you by Country Boy Brewing.I'm trying not to sound like Barry White
because we got a text message lastweek at the end of the show said

(19:38):
White is Anthony White. Sounded likeBarry White going out of breaks? Yes,
we did got several of them.I think that was probably jealousy.
Larry Vaut maybe, Well, there'sworst people to be compared to. I'll
guarantee you that, Yeah, LisSonny Patrick Mahomes. But uh, Larry
Vaught, I did want to swe have been talking a little basketball,

(20:02):
and I know you didn't get outthe house a whole lot, and I
don't know if you've been keeping upwith the Titans Classic. Uh you did
say it was summer basketball. Oh, before we get into that. The
player I was talking about, AndI should have knew that Ann Anderson would
be on top of it because she'sa little villion and but a huge UK
fan. Uh it's Alan Houston ballorhigh school. Alan Houston was a person

(20:22):
that Larry Vault cannot remember. JackPilgrim may be too young to remember,
but he's he's a basketball savant.So I don't know, Jack, why
you don't know what high school didyou go to? Jack? And you
better not say Ballard, I knowyou didn't. But what high school did
you go to? Probably the secondworst, uh worst option behind Ballard Eastern,

(20:45):
Ballard's biggest rival. Ah Okay,so you should have known that Allan
Houston and tearing y'all up for years. Yeah, and you know all the
legends of Alan Houston and what hedid back in the day, impact that
he made on in State. Soyeah, that was a big swinging myth
on my part. I should havehad that one nailed down. Not a

(21:07):
problem at all. But as wecontinue to show, if you would like
to join the show, you cancall in eight five, nine to eight
zero, two to eight seven. That's eight five, nine to eight zero.
Cats. Remember we have Jack Pilgrimuntil ten thirty. So most of
your basketball thoughts and questions. Iknow this is the off season for basketball.
It's also an off season for football, but we're in pre warm up

(21:30):
for football, so people are kindof giddy for football news. There's not
a whole lot. Well we gotsome commitment, got four commitments in the
last week. Oh well that Imean, that is yeah, big news.
But you know, are you areyou a proponent of the whole idea
of we got the commitments and you'rehappy or it may take them two or

(21:51):
three years for him to materialize intoa production. So that's why I kind
of we love that we have themon here. We talked, We talked
to him, we talk I thinkthe guys that they've got this week look
to me more like long range typegas. The guys that you're not thinking
you're going to come in and playfor you this very first year. Let
them develop a couple of years.Just from reading between the lines. Vince

(22:14):
may suddenly text me and tell medifferent. But it looked like not those
star guys that you think can justwalk right in and play from day one.
But the offer list on all ofthem were really pretty good. So
I like that. And then againthere's one. Now this is back on
the basketball side, but I'm assumingthe news maybe ain't going to be good
since Jack hadn't already brought it up. But there's a pretty big kid out

(22:37):
of Canada making his decision or I'mthinking, and Will Riley still announcing his
basketball college choice today Jack, Yeah, yeah. And the expectation for the
last week and a half two weekshas been fighting a line where where Jasper
is right now and they're trying topull him in or good Orlando Antigua trying

(23:02):
to do his best to you know, pull off the double dip with Will
Riley and Jasper, and I thinkhe's going to get the first one done
with Will Riley reclassifying the twenty twentyfour and kind of anchoring their upcoming season.
And I think that's what went intoKentucky's side of things, is you
know, when you have twelve reallyreally really solid, all around complimentary fits

(23:26):
and then you add a kid that'sexpecting to come in and get all the
shots and get the touches and minutes, you know, what are the chances
that that kind of blows up whatthe you know, everything else that they're
doing. So it kind of wentinto the things of that will take if
we love you, you're an elitetalent. You know, I can say
on good authority that Will Riley isone of their favorite targets and all of

(23:48):
high school basketball. But when youyou know, build a group that you
already feel so good about with complimentaryfits and their personalities meshing really really well,
do you want the last scholarship guyto kind of throw all of that
off? And I think that waskind of the hesitant and why they didn't
just kind of push all of theirchips in on Will Riley and say,
hey, we got to do whateverit takes to get this thing done.

(24:11):
I think they would have taken himif he said, you know, I
want to make this thing happen butI don't think they're currently, you know,
kind of counting down the minutes tohis decision as if it's a make
or break thing for them. Ithink they would have taken him, but
I don't think that they're going tobe losing much sleepover him ultimately ending up

(24:32):
in Champagne with Orlando Antiqua. Sincewe're gonna have volleyball people on a little
bit later, I think we're goingto bounce a little bit back and forth,
Larry Vault, because Jack Pilgrim islaceless with all that good basketball talk.
But as you did speak of thisweek, we did get Nicholas Smith
defensive lineman out of Georgia, committedPreston Bowman, wide receiver out of Ohio,

(24:56):
the Marcus Gardner safety out of Georgia, and earlierly we got Andrew Purcell
cornerback out of Alabama this week. But Larry Vaught, this is one thing
I do want to ask you.Are you certain? Not certain? But
are you aware of which I've beentalking about for the last two or three
weeks, that they're about to becomeshareholders? Are the players are about to

(25:18):
become so when you're saying that theyare peaped long long term. At this
point, if you enter job,do you inner job thinking well, I'm
gonna be here, I might getfired next week, or I'm gonna stay
here a couple months and leave. No, now it is you are an
employee. So if you want tobecome a starter and make the NFL,
you're gonna have to play well.In a college is different because you have

(25:38):
to stay three years anyways. Butnow we're bringing in guys that when it
was a walk on, it wassomeone who wanted to get their education,
have their stuff paid for. They'regoing to go to class and show up
for practice. Now you have toshow up for practice, do everything that
the scholarship players have to do,and you are expected to perform as a
scout team player, as a fifthstring as somebody who carry that same badge

(26:00):
and some people you know. Really, now, I think the belief is,
I don't know if you agree withthis or not that the walk ons
what kind of feel is if youknow, I'm just here to help the
team out, you know, AndI think it was a win win.
You get a chance to be apart of the team something great, or
you may not get your school paidfor it. But you're part of a
team. Now you are an employee, like your expectations are going to change.

(26:22):
So when you talk about these guys, I think it's kind of like
the economy now. I tell youngerlike my younger cousins, niece and nephews
and just younger kids I work inthe school system that now, do you
realize you need to get a highschool probably a college degree, no disrespect
to any job level or description,to be a cashier at McDonald's Speedway,
you're gonna have to have a collegedegree because the game is changing so much.

(26:45):
Most of it's gonna be most ofthe people in the country have a
college degree. So it's not likeif you don't graduate high school, you
can go work at the local gasstation. No, those jobs are going
to be given to people with collegedegrees. The other jobs are going to
be given to people with masters andwhatnot, or just even just tenure and
experience. So you're saying Jack's sonis going to have four hundred thousand dollars

(27:06):
of college debt before you could gowork at McDonald's. That's a I mean,
and it is scaring. And thenwith the throw in the AI stuff,
I mean, I mean, Idon't know, but it'd be interesting
to talk to our athletes when wehave them coming in because all of them,
I think will probably be gone forall this gets set in stone at
Kentucky. But just kind of curiouswhat their thoughts even are or what is

(27:26):
coming down the road, because it'sstill hard for me to understand whether you're
going to negotiate your own contracts, how much the schools are going to give
you and not give you. Whatcan you still get when you're not working
for them? What if you don'tgo to class? Yeah? Yeah,
Do you still have to stay ill? I mean I've never really seen do
you still have to stay eligible nowthat you're going to be a paid employee?

(27:48):
Wow? Have you? But no, I don't know if you remember
maybe four years ago, it mayhave been three years ago. Are you
buying in more now with your withyour knowledge and wisdom and Jack Pilgrim pay
attention? Are you? Are you? Are you buying it? No?
Because he may be not just sometimesI look off the other subjects, but
what I told you three years ago? Are you buying the two now that

(28:11):
they are setting the college platform upfor the Power five schools? Or right,
it's gonna be the Power three conferences. I mean are going to disband
from the NC Double A and then C Double A would just be schools
like Memphis Louisville. Nice little jamthere no louis Louisville will not go well,

(28:36):
maybe if the ACC, I mean, but I don't think they're gonna
take everybody. I think they willstill have the ACC, but they will
only take SAT Well. I thinkthey're going to take about twenty five thirty
teams and make a conference which isa mid level. I tell everybody all
the time, there's no baseball. You can go to the minor leagues,
develop your skills and go back up. Basketball. You can go to G
League, D League, develop yourskills and go back up. NFL is

(28:57):
the only league because you can't goto Canada. If you go to Canada,
you have three hundred and sixty fivedays. It's not through you have
to stay. If you leave theNFL to go to Canada, you have
to stay there at three hundred andsixty five days before you can return.
I mean, now they have USFL. I don't know how that works.
And I think that is something thatthe Rock and those those groups that are
working with those people are working on. But I think they're going to do

(29:18):
Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia.I'm not sure where Kentucky falls in that.
Tennessee. I mean they're a uscthere's going to be Texas, there's
gonna be those teams that are justgonna become amateur leagues. And does do
you buy more into that idea Ibrought up years ago with the way the
landscape is setting up right now, because all these questions you're asking are professional

(29:40):
entity questions. Yeah, and thenI'm also starting going to all that.
This filtered down to the high schooltoo. Yeah, Yeah, you're right.
Yeah, guys started coming out ofhigh school earlier. They look come
declared, I'm gonna forego my senioryear and go to whatever university. They
may just even do it with thewhole three years out of high school deal

(30:00):
now with the hormones and things inthere and food. Yeah, I don't
know, it's crazy. Speaking ofpro sports, Jack Pilgrim, I'm gonna
give you a chance. I'm gonnagive you the mic for a minute.
Your boys did it. James Posey'sprobably smiling because they returned to the glory
land. I don't know how yougo up three nothing and lose a game

(30:23):
by forty points three? How yougo three nothing didn't lose by four.
So that's why I've been saying foryears, I think sports are fixed.
But your boys did win the JackPilgrin. Go ahead and gloat for a
minute if you want to. Onthe same day, on the same anniversary
as when James Posey put forth allthat magic in eight and man, man,

(30:48):
how cool. Yeah, it's itwas a really cool thing. And
you're you saying that they sports arefixed. It is pretty convenient that the
next game was in Boston and theygo out in steamroll exactly the way you
expect them to, and you getchristopsforzingis to play, you know, on
a hurt leg and you know, kind of fighting through, knowing that he

(31:10):
was kind of pushing everything in onthat one game. So it did kind
of feel like I wouldn't say fixed. I would say it's it was destiny
for it to end in game fivein Boston, for the you know,
the getting the parade, getting thecelebration in front of Celtics fans. It
was. It was an awesome, historic season, historic team, one of
the best offensive groups in the historyof the game and to be able to

(31:34):
you know, kind of watch itfrom start to finish and and you know,
I hate, you know, alwaysbringing it up, but man having
having little Man there for the firstyou know, the first run, watching
so many games with him. Youknow that the NBA season started in October
when Billy was born, so tokind of start when he arrived and then
to kind of finish now, itwas just really really cool to just kind

(31:56):
of experience all of it with him. Uh, and it kind of added
to the coolness of it. Yesterdayor I guess Friday, the parade around
Boston, Jalen Brown held up aTerrence Clark jersey accustomed Terrence Clark jersey,
you know, on honoring the formerKentucky Guard and you know after after his

(32:16):
death, Uh, he they werereally close. Jalen called him a little
brother of his and you know, after his death, he kind of said
that he was going to do whateverit took to kind of continue his legacy
on in Boston. Kind of ahometown hero, uh for for a lot
of those guys up in in thatBoston area. Terrence Clark was so for
for you know, I won't lieI got a little choked up. I

(32:37):
had a little tier tier come downmy cheek whenever I saw Terrence Clark's jersey
kind of held up by Jaylen Brown, the final MVP on the Big Duck
Boat Parade. So yeah, veryvery cool week for for us here in
the Pilgrim household. I agree withyou. That is good stuff. That
is Jack Pilgrim. I am AnthonyWhite, and we will be back after

(32:57):
this. You were listening to StockyardsBanks Sunday Morning Sports Talk on news radio
six thirty WLA people, welcome backStockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I
am Anthony White along with Larry Vaultand Jack Pilgrim. Jack Pilgrim, I
did. I was talking Larry Vaultabout and he's look tad bit older than

(33:19):
me, little tad tad bit older, and he may be stuck in his
ways. He didn't give me theresponse I wanted. When I was talking
about, uh, the Power fiveconferences or Alex said, I think it's
gonna become the Power three. That'swhere everybody's jumping getting into conferences so that
they can move up. And hekind of looks at me like I'm not
gonna go against you. Because heknows my history, but he's also not

(33:43):
really jumping on the bandwagon. Doyou think I'm far off? Are you
seeing what I've been seeing for along time now? Yeah? I mean,
shoot, there's gonna end up beingone conference. Is gonna be just
SEC North and SEC South at somepoint down the line. But yeah,
it's it's it's a very bizarre time. And you know, with the even

(34:07):
this week, with the new newsabout the NCAA tournament wanting to expand,
and you know, just trying tojuggle these new avenues with Okay, well
we now have to share our revenuewith these teams. How can we you
know, how how can we cometogether to afford such a move? And
I think something of that magnitude isgoing to uh happen to where the most

(34:29):
efficient way to kind of fairly balancemoney distribution is going to be by just
kind of going with with one majorsuper conference in the SEC or two of
them, you know, three ofthem, you know, a big three,
you know Power three. As yousay, so, it's a weird
time, man, It's it's Ithink everybody just kind of adjusting on the

(34:51):
fly and not really knowing what they'redoing. Uh, and just kind of
putting stuff together. Like I mean, I think the INCA tournament expansion thing
is the perfect example because you lookat uh, you know, the specifics
on that and the reports on that. It's like, Okay, we can
add either four or six teams.Okay, that's great. What would the
reasoning behind that be, Well, you know, it allows us to make

(35:13):
more money. But if you goto some of the reports, I think
Ross Dellinger had one where you godown to like the eighth paragraph of it,
and you like, sources tell methat there there isn't a guarantee that
adding schools will will create a biggerrevenue for uh, for for the n
C double A, Like they don'teven know that. Uh, some of
these changes are going to create moremoney. Like every everybody is kind of

(35:36):
adjusting on the fly. So uh, it's times are absolutely changing. But
yeah, I agree with you.I think I think before before very long,
there's going to be uh just amega conference or a couple minor mega
conferences. But I think the daysof you know, a bunch of different
conferences across the country or are wellover. Larry Vaught, I'm very good

(35:59):
friends with a coach, very closefriends, like very close, close friends
with a person that is a coachon the coaching staff for football. And
I was having a conversation yesterday andthis kind of sums up where I'm at.
And this, you know, forthose who don't want to talk to
basketball, don't want to talk,we're talking about the landscape of college athletics
in general. We had a coachby the name of Bill Curry coachure football

(36:21):
in the mid or the mid latewhere the late nineteen hundred's, the mid
nineteen nineties, mid to late nineteennineties, and you could practice there may
have been what twenty three periods, twenty one periods you can practice, get
to period fifteen or sixteen, youget to period sixteen, blow the whistle,
start over, start over. Wedon't care, we don't care if
we'll turn the lights on our s. I watched a lot of those practices

(36:43):
then. So even so we're comingfrom that. The guy who's coaching over
there is a guy who had acoach. You know what happens now,
if you have an hour and fortyfive minutes of bad practice, practice is
still over. You scratched, scratch, You just have a bad practice on
your record, So you practiced badhabits and that's what you have. Now
you got the whole idea that well, a guy who same guy I'm talking

(37:05):
about, was academically academically ineligible, was on the practice squad, whooped our
tail every day because he shouldn't havebeen on the practice squad or scout team
because he is academical in eeligible, came back to next year, became the
starter, did everything, went toCanada, became a great player. So
he had a persevere through all theups and downs the college riggors. Now,
if you're not happy, I'll justleave. And if I'm not happy,

(37:29):
you know, I want a littlemore money to stay here. And
then once we give you the money, we expect you to produce based on
that money. So for a guywho's came from those days I'm talking about
the hard nose, full pad practice, four days a week, those type
of things, it is a hugechange, Larry Vaught. And now they're
gonna become employees, and we don'tknow when that's gonna happen. That could
be in the next two or threemonths. Employees maybe making more than the

(37:51):
GUIDs is coaching them, and thatcould happen really soon. We're going to
continue this conversation after this break. You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday morning sports
