(00:00):
I actually just let the Canada bag. I haven't told anyone that yet,
So that's what's happening. One sixone the Twister. This is my Tulsa
with Carla Cantrell. I think theygot the wrong time zone where I was.
I'm down here in Central America anduh there's central daylight in Central Standard,
so they got it mixed up.So okay, hey where are you,
kid? Moore? I'm down inCentral America. How do you have

(00:25):
been? Well? I was inelsaber or surfing, and then I went
through like nicarag Wood. Now I'min Costa Rica. Holy cow, that's
amazing. Yeah. Yeah, youknow, I usually tour for like ten
straight months and then I surf inthe wintertime every every year, and this
year I kind of played a littlelonger in the December and so you know

(00:47):
into January. My time off wasFebruary and March. I love it.
What's been your favorite part of thistrip? Oh? Man? You know,
I haven't. I have not worna pair of shoes now and and
in over two months, you're gonnahave to do No Shoes Nation with Kenny
Chesney. Yeah, I'm I'm,I'm I'm truly no shoes. Uh,

(01:11):
Yeah, my feet are so callousedfrom from all the reefs and rock that
I've been walking on to get tothe different surf breaks. And yeah,
it's it's been pretty special. Ijust had like a little dirt bike down
here and I just kind of bouncedaround and I got a little backpack and
I've got a rack on the sideof my dirt bike and I make my
way from from from area to area. I love that. That's amazing.

(01:36):
Okay, what is your what isyour goal for this year? I I
love it that you just you seemto be such a free spirit, Kip.
Do you set goals or do youjust let life happen? You know,
there was a time in my lifeI'm as driven. I am a
free spirit, but I'm about asI've always been insanely focused and driven throughout

(01:57):
my life. I mean, Istill even on the road. I train
seven days a week, and I'malways looking for stuff to push me to
the edge, so I do.My drive is always there. But I
used to set like literal goals, like you know, whether it was you
know, I wanted to headline anarena, or I wanted this and that,

(02:20):
or you wanted to win artists ofthe year, whatever it is.
But when it comes to music,I'm just as focused and driven as've ever
been. But I quit making goalsbecause music is such a subjective thing,
and what I found myself doing wasgetting lost in the clime and not being
present in the climb, and notcelebrating the little victories and being present with

(02:42):
everything that was happening around because Iwas so focused on the next goal.
So I've learned to in the lastfew years really be present and stop.
Just let whatever's supposed to happen happenas far as music goes, and know
that it's a success if I'm ableto do what I love to do and
write songs and make a living doingthat, Like that's a blessing among blessings.

(03:04):
Hey man, you sound like astoic. I've just I've had a
lot of time to think. I'msaying. I took a stoic challenge in
January, and it's like, pushyourself do something uncomfortable every day. Don't
get caught up in like you knowthe what you want to happen just the
day by day. I mean, seriously, you should. You should look

(03:24):
into it. You sound like aphilosopher yeah, no, I just you
know, I've had a lot oftime to think, and I've always been
this way. You know, mybusiness managers, you know, they have
you know, accounts with like meand Chesney and Keith Urban and all these
other people, and they're always like, you're the biggest enigma that we have
that we've ever had on our rosterbecause we see that your account since we

(03:49):
signed you in like twenty eleven hasnever changed. They're like, what,
you never buy anything? They're like, all you do is buy a surf
war here and there, and thenyou go to Kroger to get groceries and
that's about it. Like are youlike, are you doing something that we
don't know about? And I'm likeno, I just I live really simple
and I've never let the world foolme into thinking that. You know,

(04:09):
we live in this like weird timewhere everybody's always posting pictures on the private
jets and doing all these things, and it makes people tricked into thinking that's
what success is in life, andI've just never bought into that. I
just never bought into that because Isee how happy I am. I've literally
been gone for two and a halfmonths on a dirt bike with nothing but
a backpack with a couple of Tshirts and some water bottles, and I've

(04:32):
got my check card and and somesome some cash, and I literally haven't
worn a pair of shoulder a pairof shoes and over two months and I'm
completely happy content. I am sojealous of you right now. Well,
I really think that social media hasso much to do with everything right now.
I think if you, if youunplug that, you know, I

(04:55):
love it that you're not comparing yourselfto others, because that's exactly what does
it. That's exactly what does it. Like. People are like, oh,
I'm really happy until they look atsocial media and then they're like,
oh, but this girl that graduatedfrom high school with me, you know,
has a bigger house or as apool. Yeah. Yeah. I've
even always been like, you know, whether it's if we're staying at a

(05:15):
nice place or we're staying at youknow, we're getting on private jests to
have to take to get to thenext show. You know. I try
to make it where I try tofirst off be the example not to do
it, but also tell my guyslike, let's not post any of this
stuff, Like I don't ever wantpeople thinking that this is what it means
to have success. I don't everwant to push that on anyone. I

(05:40):
love that that's a really healthy attitude. Well, Kim, I know that
you. I mean, you're insuch great shape because you serve all the
time. But you also you saidyou trained seven days a week. What's
the one exercise Kip that you're like, Okay, this is the exercise if
I could only do one, likethis is the one that I love or
that scolds me the most. Ahman, I've got a crazy pull up
thing that would be hard to explainover the phone. But I also be

(06:04):
like, I'll go to like arock climbing gym, and my goal will
be to stay on the wall forforty five minutes straight, like going up
to the top. Yeah, goingup to the top, coming back down,
going up to the top, comingback down, without ever coming off
the wall for forty five minutes andyou're so drenched by the end of it.
And it's working your core, yourlegs, your arms, everything.

(06:24):
So I say that one, Ohmy god, yeah, the core work.
Okay. We have a place inTulsa called Tulsa Climbs. You know,
it's like the climbing walls and everything. I've never even tried to do
it, but now that sounds flippingintense. Just to hang on the wall
like a spider for forty five minutes. It is, And I'm out of
climbing shape right now. I actuallyown a little climbing lodge in the Red

(06:46):
River Gorge in Kentucky, so whenI go there, I kind of get
my shape back up for climbing andstuff. But I'm a little out of
it right now from all the curtin. Yeah, I was gonna say it
works totally different muscles right, completelydifferent light My arm my foe arms would
be completely gassed within fifteen minutes ofclimbing right now, I know, just
coming out of the winter months andgetting on a seedew or something in the

(07:09):
spring. You get home and you'relike, oh my god, I haven't
used any of these muscles for sixmonths. Yeah, for sure, that's
crazy. Okay, so you're climbingwalls for forty five minutes straight. What
are you buying at Kroger? Kip? What's your what's your favorite go to
food? Oh? Man, well, my guilty one is the cookies and
cream ice cream. That's that's that'skind of a that's kind of a must.

(07:30):
But I'm a simple I'm simple.I'm pretty much just like eggs and
avocado and some bacon, and youknow, I get a little bison meat
and stuff. But it's it's prettysimple. That's awesome. Have you gotten
into tofu yet? Are you doingthe tofu in Kale? Nah? Nah,
I don't really. I don't reallygo that route. I don't really
go that route. I'll always beeating meat. I do love I do
love the veggies, but I'll alwaysbe eating the meat. I love that

(07:53):
we were so excited that you're comingback to Oklahoma. I'm so sorry that
we're landlocked and we don't have anyplace for you to serve. That's okay
to come, you know, Iknow that I don't. I haven't played
Oklahoma a lot, you know,And I know that Oklahoma and Texas kind
of have their own thing out there. But we're excited to We're excited to

(08:13):
hopefully get a chance to get infront of a lot of people and show
you what we do. You know, I know that our live show is
something special, you know, andit's has a lot of rock and roll
elements, and I think that peopleare gonna I think people, the people
that come out are going to havea breast. Are you going to put
shoes on for this event? Yeah? Oh yeah, yeah, that's a

(08:33):
whole different attire when I get onstage. Oka, you know, when
do you come back? When youcome back? And and how long are
you on the road then, Ken, Well, I'm coming back in two
days. I'm flying straight to Montanato shoot the video for the first song
that I'm going to put out onthis new record. I'm just made.
I actually just let the Canada bag. I haven't told anyone that yet,

(08:54):
so that's what's happening. I'm totallyexcited. I was like, I was
taking notes. Okay, so intwo days you could be in Antana.
