(00:00):
But it really is a family friendlyevent and one of our slogans that we've
had for a number of years isthen you know in march Shire, Irish
and in Octovia, German. SoSeptember, come out and be Scottish.
It's really something for everybody. OneO six one the Twister. This is
my Tulsa with Carly Cantrell Steve fromScott Best. What's your title there,
I'm the executive director. Excellent, all right, and we're so excited.

(00:20):
How many years now has it beensince Scott Best has been in Tulsa area,
So this is probably our forty fourthyear, I think, and it'll
be our sixth year in Broken Arrow. Yeah, that's I knew you moved,
so now you're a Broken Arrow.I had no idea that that was
still Broken Arrow proper. It's theBroken Arrow Events Complex. Is that what
it's called the Broken Row Events Park? Yeah? Excellent, and it's a

(00:43):
huge space so you have all theall the room in the world do things
like bagpiping and all the Highland games. It's really a nice space out there.
Yeah, it's fantastic and we're growingevery year we're out there. I
think we've almost doubled in size inthe last six years since we moved out
there, and they're still rooming togrow and we've got some plans over the
next couple of years will hopefully takeus next level. That's excellent. And

(01:04):
you know, you think of youknow, you think for the German heritage
here, and there have been differentfestivals that have been around, but Scotland
and I'm like the scott Fest. You guys see people come out of the
woodwork. It's like, hey,I'm Scottish. All of a sudden,
I've learned I'm from this clan rightright, absolutely, And we have a
lot of people that travel in fromall the surrounding states. I think last
year with forty two states represented atscott Fest, which is crazy, but

(01:26):
and they're all either looking for theirancestry side of things, or their connection
with Scotland and their families and stuff, or just come out some good music
exactly. And there are people thatcan help you with that. When you
get to scott Fest. You cankind of go back and look at the
genealogy, right yeah. I thinkthe year we're going to have somewhere between
twenty five and thirty different clans representativesand a lot of them have gone into

(01:47):
depth with their family history, Soyou're gonna ask any of the many questions.
I think that's awesome. That's whatI was telling Steve that last year
I missed scott Fest because I wasat a family reunion where I was finding
out that I came down through theMonroe plan. So my great grandfather was
a Munroe, and then when hehad a daughter and she couldn't carry the

(02:07):
name on, so my grandfather's middlename was Monroe, and you know,
off we go on this little cycleof like, Okay, where are we
and what's our crest and all that. So I'm super excited to go this
year. Yeah, that'd be reallycool. I mean, I don't know,
I can't confirm whether we'll have amineral client out there or not,
but we're well, you'll have one, you'll have me absolutely. Do we
need anymore? No, I'm loudenough for all of us. But even

(02:30):
if you're even if you're not Scottage, if you don't know that heritage,
if you don't know that line, there is so much to do at scott
Fest. Do you still have athletescoming from all over to do the Highland
Games? Yeah? This year,we're actually hosting the Women's Amateur World Championship,
so we'll have women athletes coming overfrom I think Austria, Sweden,

(02:50):
Belgium, Kinada, obviously the US. I think there's a couple of other
ones too. Holy caw, that'samazing. I hope that the weather is
okay for them, because I can'timagine tossing a caber in like one hundred
ten degrees. But it looks likeit's going to be really nice, you
know, fingers crossed. The weatherlooks like it's gonna be the eight eight
eighty five, so I'm loving thatidea. Now, tell us more about
a highland games, like I know, the caber toss, because that's like

(03:13):
the big telephone pole and you tryto throw it, which just looks dangerous,
as I'll get out, I willnot be doing that one. Well,
what are some other highland games? So we've got the sheaf toss,
which is kind of like a burlapstop. You use a pitchfork and you're
trying to basically toss it up andover a bar. We've got wait for
distance weight over bar. We've gotthe brainmarstone, which is kind of like
the shop pot. What else Ithink, I mean that's some of them

(03:37):
anyway, but yeah, there's Ithink nine different events. That's a I
had no idea that there was likea world championship in any of that,
so that's amazing. Yeah, there'sdifferent I mean all over the world.
And normally we have our a commentatoror scorekeeper and things like that. He

(03:58):
comes in from Scotland and he'll bringin different competitions from all over the world.
And this year we get the Women'sAmateur that's amazing. So you've got
all of the Highland Games. Thenyou've got music everywhere. You guys have
multiple stages too, right, Yeah, this year with three dedicated music stages.
From a rock stage, we're bringingin some bands from Scotland and from

(04:18):
Austria, Canada and around the US, and then we have a kind of
middle stage which is more like yourIrish pub music, kind of fun sort
of party plays. And then obviouslywith the third stage, it is more
traditional Celtic acoustic sort of music,so we kind of cover White Joint of
stuff. And as we're sitting therewatching the live rock bands rock Scottish music

(04:40):
on Friday and Saturday night, we'regoing to be drinking what well. I
mean, obviously we'll have our localdomestic American beers, but we'll also have
tennants Liger at Scotland and bell Haven, two or three of those ones out
and some other British beers excellent. You also got whiskey tasting, right we
do, and the whiskey tastes we'retrying to do and make sure figure on

(05:01):
our kind of road trip. Oneof the tastes were kind of around the
world, different kinds of whiskeys. One of the other ones will be starting
off with a bourbon, going intoa blended iration, then moving in four
of the sixth single malt regions, kind of getting a little bit smoky and
peter as we go through it.So so far, we've got games,
we've got music, we've got alcohol, we've got other treats. I'm sure
other eats. But we also haverides for the kids. So this year

(05:26):
the kids there will be a littlebit different. The mechanical rides won't be
back this year, but we're kindof bringing in some new stuff. We'll
also have a kid's passport they cantake them around visiting different clients and looking
at the ancestry side of it.Or different bonds that they get to meet
and things like that. So itshould be a cool thing. Get a
stamp or something. Oh that's awesome. Do kids twelve in year under still
getting free? Yes? They do. That just sounds like I mean,

(05:49):
this is like such a family coolevent to do. I think it kicks
off. Does it kickoff on Thursdaynight or not until Friday? No,
it's Friday at five pm. Itkicks off. But it really is a
family, family event. And oneof our slogans that we've had for a
number of years is then you knowin March Shore Irish and in Octovia Germans
so September, come out and beScottish. It's really something for everybody.
It's such a fun time. Doyou still have I remember the first year

(06:12):
that I went, there were nightsthat actually like showed you how to battle.
Yeah, we have. So thebottles will hop on Friday night and
Saturday throughout the day into the eveningand they're kind of historical bottles, you
know, period relevant to back ofthe day in Scotland. There you go
and if you don't have a kiltor any of the Scottish fest things that
you want to wear that you wantto fit in. Plenty of vendors there

(06:34):
for that as well. Absolutely,I think we'll have fourty or fifty different
vendors out there this year, youknow from from merchandise side of it,
and then we'll have a good selectionof foods too that Scottish pies and things
are really good. Excellent. Well, you can save money right now and
get your tickets online. What aboutparking, Tell me about parking, Steve,
So, parking will be an issueand we have air conditioned shuttles that

(06:58):
go back and forth all day. With that, we're also doing a park
and ride from River Spirit Casino andthe schedule will be posted online just shortly.
And then we're adding this year anew free park and ride for anybody
from Promenade Mall that'll run all weekendagain air conditioned busses all the way there
and bike. Oh man, thatsounds amazing because I know sometimes you get
out there and there's not a lotof parking available, but a shuttle from

(07:20):
Promenade or River Spirit sounds like adeal, right, so you can come
out and have a few beers ornot worry about it. Absolutely well,
we're so excited about it's fifteen throughthe seventeenth scott Fest. What is the
saying if you're in September, beScottish. Yeah, absolutely, We're all
Scottish. We can't out wait anythingelse you want to add, No,
I would just encourage everybody come outif they've never been. I promise you

(07:43):
won't have a bike experience. Itwill be a great festival you want to
come back to and bring your friendsthe next time. Just don't try to
hag us. I don't know.I like the haig us, especially if
it's done with a nice onion gravy. Over at whiskey onion gravy. Great.
Oh yeah, everything's better with whiskeyonion grave. That's kind of cheating.
All right. Scott Fest is comingup. Get your tickets right now
at okay scottest dot com. That'sokay, s C O t F E

(08:05):
