going on in the sport of kings here in southern
California and around the country.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
And here's your host, Jayceon Levine here.

Speaker 8 (03:43):
Uh yeah, I am Jason Levine. It is Inside Racing.
It is March first, twenty twenty five, and that means
it's Big Cap Day here in Southern California and Fountain
of Youth Day down at Gaulfstream Park and Gotham Day
at Aqueduct. So let's go talk about This is where

(04:07):
things really kick into high gear in racing as we
really start to sort out the three year olds. We
were lucky enough to have a couple of horses pass
up going to the Middle East, so that spiced up
the Big Cap going on, a lot of action, a
lot of horses were going to see moving forward. But
some huge races today, very competitive races, some full fields

(04:30):
and two of the best cards of the year at
Santa Anita and Gulfstream Park. So the best card of
the year at Santa Nita so far and this and
the Pegasus Best Cards of golf Streamltream has nine stakes today.
Is that overkilled? Yeah, sure it is. You could spread
those out a little bit. Four or five would be fine,

(04:51):
but they go with nine. So Mini Breeders Cup down Florida,
a fourteen race card down there. The Fountain of Youth
is thirteen. The last six races, last seven are all steaks.
Mind Frame is back, remember him, He's back in the
Gulf Stream Park Mile today his four year old debut.

(05:16):
Come on, excuse me, so huge day at Gulf Stream Park.
Obviously Jay's got that covered for you, as does Bruno.
Steve's got a couple bonuses there. And then the Monster
Day at Santa Anita, eleven races at the Great Race Place.
First post is noon at Santa Anita today. It'll be

(05:36):
beautiful out there, not hot, but it should be just
a gorgeous day. The horses will love it. High sixties,
perfect time to go out to sant Anita. The fiesta
is out there, Mariachi music is out there, great food
is out there. And it's not always the case, but
it is on the big days. Some tremendous horse racing today,

(05:56):
potentially some Kentucky derby horses and definitely some of the
best older horses in the world in the Big Capital
and also the Grade one kill Roll mile happening. Those
three are in a row San Felipe Kill Row Mile
in Big Cap races eight, nine and ten at San Anita.
The Buena Vista team for the Phillies and Mayors going

(06:18):
a mile on the grass. Just a solid card top
to bottom. Even the last race is a nice turf
allowance with a full field going a mile and eighth.
That's always a great way to end a huge day
at San Anita with a full field turf race as
the sun kind of goes down behind the mountain. Just
doesn't get much better than that, especially if you're alive
and to pick four, pick five, to pick six, then

(06:40):
that becomes one of the more exciting races maybe you've
ever seen. So been in that position a few times,
looking forward to being in that position today. I'm sure
you are, So let's talk about it, dig into it
a little bit. Just again, an awful lot going on.
So the Big Ray, it's the Big Cap and the

(07:03):
purse is now what three hundred thousand dollars. That's disappointing.
But how it is. But the good news is that
the connections of Locked, who was so impressive winning the
Cigar Mile back in December, won an allowance race coming back,
and then at the end of his three year old year,

(07:24):
won that Cigar mile, beat some really fast horses.

Speaker 9 (07:28):
Looked great doing it.

Speaker 8 (07:29):
Excuse me, then went to the Pegasus and ran into
buzzs on White a Barrio. Nobody was beating White a
Barrio that day. You had to be on and you're
to lead that day.

Speaker 9 (07:39):
Locked was not.

Speaker 8 (07:40):
He kind of missed the start a little bit, but
ran on really well to be second. That was his
first start at a mile and an eighth doesn't have
to go a mile on a quarter today, that is
a big question. He is bred to do it, but
until they do it, you don't know. And for some reason,
and I guess this is the part, blinkers go on

(08:01):
today Unlocked.

Speaker 10 (08:02):
Now.

Speaker 8 (08:02):
I guess they thought maybe he wasn't paying attention last time.
I really don't know. And when you have a horse
this good, who seems to be in this you know,
solid form, a change like that just seems strange. So
Todd Pletcher decided to do it. The blinkers go on today.
Jose Ortiz is out to ride. He rode this horse

(08:24):
in his first four races as a two year old.
He won the Grade One Can win, the Breeder Futurity,
came to the Breeders Cup at San Anita, was favored
and ran third that day. He was coming at the end.
But you can't fall too far out of it at
San Anita. So that's also the going to be a
question for him is can he stay close enough? I

(08:45):
think he can hereri one hundred and twenty four pounds
as the high weight does have to give nine pounds
to a couple of horses eight and then four to
most of them. Locked is strong and great form. Apris
workouts look good and Todd Plescher sends him out here
to run in the Big Cap, so that's great for fans,

(09:08):
it's great for the race. And we have another shipper
that comes from another huge born, the Brad Coxborn hit show.
Beautiful Gray Horse is here eight out of sixteen lifetime
pretty much dances every dance, runs every six weeks or so.
Really hasn't had a break since May, but is in

(09:28):
very good form. One down in the Fairgrounds last time,
won three straight just before that including a big race
at Keeenland. He comes from midpack. It also carries highway
to one hundred and twenty four pounds and gets the
services of Flavian Pratt, which is a huge plus anytime. Now.
The thing with this race is it appears to have

(09:51):
a lot of pace, and that's good for hit, show
and locked. They are going to be midpack, maybe even
a little farther back than that is a little tough
to close at San Anita. So if you're a midpack
stalker or a closer, you need pace. There is pace
in this race. Bob Baffort has two runners in here,
one of which neither has really done a whole lot

(10:13):
to earn being here. But you know why not getting weight.
They're in good form, so he's taken a shot and
as well. At this point. Miramadi is the one that
appears to be kind of a one note cowboy. He
goes to the lead, he goes pretty much as fast
as he can or battles whoever's there and see how
long he can last. He has made eleven starts. Took

(10:34):
him a long time to break his maiden, but he did,
and he came back and won an allowance last time
didn't beat much, but he's training great. He should ensure
a pretty fast pace. The horse next to him, JB
strikes Back, who is owned by the way by Baker
ownership owing JB strikes Back, Now he's the worst. It's

(10:55):
come on out of nowhere. For Doug O'Neil, he likes
to go to the front, shows a lot of speed.
I think New King out of the Bob Baffert part
usually shows speed. Midnight Mammoth near the outside is fast
and Tarantino on the outside seems to run kind of
the same race every time. He goes to the lead
or battles whoever's there and goes as far as he can.

(11:18):
So I think there's going to be a solid pace
in here unless everybody takes back and they let one
horse go. But if that's the case, that really is
good for Locked and Hit show and the local horse
who won the prep for this a six year old Katona,
who comes off a big win in the San pasquall
A race where there was a fast pace. Tarantino was

(11:40):
in there and Katona ran him down and looked pretty
good doing it. So his one tried a mile a
quarter not great, but he has a chance to turn
it around today gets three pounds from the big boys,
and Doug O'Neill has done it before, so I got
to watch him. And then the eight year old Express
Train down on the rail. Got to give credit to

(12:01):
John Sheriff's a huge race is always better than John
Sheriffs as a horse in here, and Express Train did
win this race three years ago. Three years ago, the
twenty twenty two Big Cap beat a very nice shipper
named Warrant from the brad Cox Barnant in a thriller
coming down the lane. Express Train was very very game

(12:21):
that day with Victor Espinoza. Hector Burios rides today he
was in that sand pass qual might have moved a
little early and was outside there. This is his third
start off the layoff as an eight year old, so
he should be ready to roll and we'll see if
he can become a two time winner of the Big Cap.
So hell of a race. Really glad to see a
couple of shippers come out and that just should be

(12:44):
really a lot of fun. The race before that, the
kill Roll Mile Ol Potente with Hector Burios for Dan Blacker.
Nobody's hotter than Dan Blacker won the Big race over
in Saudi six for nine at this meet. What who
does that? El Patente has two of them and both

(13:05):
super impressive. He is in the best form of his
career as a six year old. He will be favored,
I thinking here, but he's got a beat formidable man
right next to him. For Michael McCarthy, he's got to
be the shipper in Neat who comes out with a
pretty good form and is a first time four year old.
So watch out there, and I think you have to
watch out for the outside horse here, Al Mendores, Antonio

(13:27):
Fresou for filled the model. Such a good combination. Al
Mindares has some races last year that are very very
dangerous in here, so a really nice kill Romele air
Force Red is in here. Mire Mono Ramon also a contender,
so really nice race Race nine right in the middle
of the pick three, pick four, and then the San Felipe.
So much to talk about today, the San Felipe Big

(13:49):
three year old race, the horse that's created a tremendous
buzz at this meat barns cost three point two million dollars,
and the connections that bought Medina Spirit among others, and
have thrown a ton of money away on horses like this,
but I've also had some nice hits. They've got Barnes,
he's two for two, barely one at Churchill, kind of

(14:10):
an odd debut. Then he was extremely impressive on seven
furlongs at sant Anina and the San Vicente just smoked
the field there, drew off like a really really good horse.
But he's got to go two turns today. He goes
from seven furlongs to a mile and a sixteenth. I mean,
if he's good enough, that's no problem. But we'll find
out today. So Barnes Bruno will talk a little bit

(14:32):
about his works, but they look great on paper. By
all accounts. He looks really good in the morning. So
is this stable mate Rodriguez. He only costs four hundred
and eighty five thousand. He got beat last time by
Citizen Bull. No shame in that he did finish in
front of magticet Road, who came back and ran a
big second in the Rebel, and Bruno talked about that

(14:53):
race having been kind of a prep for maticet Road,
kind of a prep for Rodriguez too, got a good
race into him, and here he is with two turn
races under his belt. So it's an advantage for him there.
So I think he's maybe the baffort a little bit
under the radar, a little bit more of a price.
Barnes will be pretty low price. And then the horse
they have to beat is Journalism. He beat three bafforts

(15:15):
last time in the Low Sale Futurity. He's got to
do it today. That's just how it is out here.
But Journalism two for three, that big win in the
Low Seal Futurnity. He's trained well after a little bit
of an illness. He has two turn experience, should be
stalking the pace here. This isn't the big goal for Journalism,
but he's got to run well here and then go

(15:37):
to the Sanitade Derby and then hopefully the Kentucky Derby.
So excellent race. Again, it's one horse against a group
of bafforts, so you never know how the pace is
going to play out. Don't know what his instructions are,
what they're looking to do here, but I'm going to
see a lot of fun stuff in the San Felipe.
So huge card at sant Anita. Spent the most time
on that because we're here and when we got the

(15:59):
big cat, so that's cool. But again that monster card
down at Gulf Stream needs discussion. Also the Gotham at Aqueduct.
A bunch of New York breads there. I don't think
we'll see a lot of Derby horses coming out of
New York coming out of this race. They seem like
sprinters again going to one turn mile, kind of a
long sprint. But it's a good race. It's a competitive race.

(16:19):
Sand Devil. It's got a lot of buzz back there
for Linda Rice. He's three for three and Sakra Sank
right next to him is four for four. A pair
of New York breads. I haven't seen that in a while.
Chad Brown's got a horse in there on the outside,
so we'll see. But let's bring on our man, Steve Pollock.
I know he's excited about this card, been working on
it for a while. They gave us the past performances early,

(16:41):
which is great, so we've had time to dig in
and really kind of break this down and we'll see
how our man Steve is doing. Steve, Good morning, Good morning, Jason.

Speaker 11 (16:50):
How you doing well?

Speaker 8 (16:52):
As you can tell, pretty excited. This is a big,
big day I've seen I don't know, thirty five big caps,
something like that in my life. Looking forward to seeing
another one. A lot of three year old action today,
So you know, as you know better than most, this
is a really fun time of year. And I thought
both of the cards at Seaning, Anita and gull Stream
came up strong and excited to see what happens today.

Speaker 11 (17:18):
Yeah, I'm with you, Jason. I thought the analysis on
locked was spot on. It was a great effort. Last time. Boy,
he really showed me something. I mean you look in
at the racing for him and you say, wow, what
do you really like about that race?

Speaker 1 (17:31):
Steve?

Speaker 11 (17:32):
And you know, he really blew the start in that race,
I mean just had no chance and had to go
wide throughout. I really liked the way he finished there.
But again I'm with you on Metha. You know, I
blinkers on is a great angle when you're looking at
a ten thousand dollars claiming race and you're trying to
shake things up, blinkers off some of these changes. Is
this horse going to be able to relax better?

Speaker 4 (17:53):
What have you?

Speaker 11 (17:54):
But when you're talking about horses that are you know,
some of the best horses on the grounds or anywhere.
I don't know how I feel about a change like that,
so that that's gonna be key. I don't think you'll
see this horse dueling on the lead with those blinkers.
I think it's just to ensure that he shows a
little bit more speed and and you know, that's an
important decision we're going to have to make. But I

(18:17):
think that horse is gonna run well today and I
think he's going to be very tough to beat.

Speaker 8 (18:22):
Yeah, I guess, if I had to guess, I would
say that Pletcher has had enough experience out here at
Santa Anida that he knows you need to be fairly close.
You don't want to fall too far back, even going
a mile on the quarter. He's obviously one race is
out here, not in a while. His record isn't very
good in the last four or five years, but he's
had plenty of experience, you know, at this game. Uh,

(18:43):
And I think he wants to do what he can
to ensure that Locke is in the race, as they say,
you know, when it hit that first turn and on
the backstretch. So we'll see. He is a very nice horse.
He had a long break with some injury trouble, but
he is back in in really good form, and like said,
it was a kind of a hidden nice effort last

(19:03):
time in the Pegasus, and I'm just glad he's here.
Just adds a lot of well talent and excitement to
the big Camp, which we're happy to see because it
hasn't happened in a while. Usually they're all over in
the Middle East. So maybe this is a bit of
a trend. We'll take it. If it is, that's great.
It's great percent in California racing and for US racing.
Keep these horses going rather than sending them over there

(19:26):
and then they don't show up again until.

Speaker 9 (19:27):
July or August.

Speaker 8 (19:28):
So so far, so good. We'll see what happens today.

Speaker 11 (19:31):
Well, you know, those horses have just not had much
success in the Breeders Cup. You know, they go over there,
a lot of them have really had the hard time
coming back and being ready for the Breeders Cup. So
I know, it's quite a bit more money than probably
twice as much as they're running for over there. What's
that Saudi Cup was ten million dollars. But they run
in that and they come back over here and sometimes
they're just not the same Jason.

Speaker 8 (19:52):
Yeah, And then you know, every group, every ownership group
or owner has to kind of sit on that decision
and see how they feel about it. Some some just
want the trip, They want to go over there, they
want to be wined and dined, even though it's went
to that money's from. But others are thinking about the
horse and you know, trying to figure out what's best

(20:13):
for them in the long term. This is the Eclipse
Thoroughbred Partners group. They've got a couple of nice horses
running today and I guess they just thought this was
the best thing for this horse today in long term
and we'll find out. So they did turn down a
chance to make some huge money. So that's always an
interesting decision and sometimes a tough one, and I'm sure
there's some tough discussions going on between people, like, hey,

(20:34):
how come we're not going to Dubai. So you know,
that's that's just where it's at. When you've got a
horse like that, those are the decisions you have to make.
They're good ones. Awfully, nights have worse that good that
you have to sit down and say, Okay, what do
we do. But that's the case and also the case
with Hit Show. He certainly could have gone over there
and done some damage in some of those big races,

(20:56):
but they're they're here taking their shot as well. So
a lot to look at on the Santa Anita card.
I should note you added what is it four races
from Gulfstream on their big card as a bonus on
your sant Anita full card.

Speaker 9 (21:09):
Correct.

Speaker 11 (21:11):
I did, Jason a couple of turf races I really like,
and those are on there. I didn't string any together,
tried to, didn't like them all left the ones out
that I didn't like. So you got more races to
play individually, a couple tries, and then we got a
nice late pick for at Santa Anita today. And really
some of the early races are very, very playable. So really,

(21:34):
as you would expect, one of the better cards that
we've had this year.

Speaker 8 (21:38):
Yeah, it really is. And hey full credit for last
week talked about Tom Horne coming back and what you
liked about him and how you thought the race might
play out with Edwin Maldonado and the Irons. The horse
that you were wondering about drawing in did draw in
noble reflection, he did go to the lead, but that
didn't bother Tom Horn. He ran him down in anyway.

(22:00):
That was a fun stretcher on they like coming down
the hill. I think first time out, you know that.
I think the hill really helps. You really only have
to kick it into gear after you cross the dirt.
And Tom Horn should did that and pay twenty dollars
in the process.

Speaker 4 (22:15):
He did.

Speaker 8 (22:15):
Jason.

Speaker 11 (22:16):
Then you know, you made a good point about that
being easier to come down the hill. I've always been
thought about that. You've been saying that for years, and
I think you're right about that. I think it is
a little bit easier for them. There's not as much
running to do, you know, more difficult running. I would say, boy,
what a nice stride that Tom Horn has. I mean
that horse really kicked it in late and it was
an exciting race and I hope the fans made a

(22:37):
little bit of money.

Speaker 8 (22:38):
Yeah, what were you think in mid stretch?

Speaker 11 (22:43):
You know what, I actually thought he was going to win, Jason.
I saw that big stride kick in, and I go,
there it is because that's what I saw from that horse.
And sometimes you see it and it happens, and I'll
be honest with you, I was pretty confident that he
was going to that he was going to run that
horse down and he did.

Speaker 8 (22:57):
Yeah once once you saw him shift into high gear.
That's a serious gear. And the question is, you know,
at what point does he shift into that gear? You
hope it's not too late. It wasn't. It was well
timed and yeah, just very impressive finish from Tom Horn.
You knew fifty yards from a wire for sure, he
was getting up. But once he did kick it into gear.

(23:17):
It's fun to see horses down shift like that and
really start extending, and he did that. The great feeling
is it's got to be the best feeling as a jockey,
for sure. We talked to Richard Mandela. He's talking about
what a great feeling that is as a trainer to
know you have that kind of horse going into a race.
But as a horse player, that's about the best feeling
you can have, is to know a horse has that

(23:39):
in him and then see it show up. You're feeling really,
really good. So see if we can do that again today.
And he thoughts about how the track is playing or
anything like that as we head into a big day.

Speaker 11 (23:53):
Well, you know, horses were able to close yesterday, but
it's still boy, the percentages of speed horses winning is
very very high. And we are going to play a
sprint race on the main track today and I'll give
you those numbers before we get to the race. But
you know, turf course been very fair, the rails are
going to be at zero today again, course on a
big day, and we've got some really nice turf horses

(24:15):
running today. It's really good to see horses like me
Armano Ramon go back east. I thought he could have
he could have actually won that race had he had
a little better trip. He just got all bottled up.
And it's great to see the West Coast horses that
we have being very competitive. And I you know, agreed
with a couple of horses that you mentioned in that race.
That's a very very good field. And obviously we're missing,

(24:37):
you know, our best horse, uh Well Andiohannes and hope,
hopefully he'll come back. But it's really good to see
that the turf horses on the West Coast can be
more competitive this year in the Breeders Cup because these
these two horses are even three or four horses that
are running in this race today are very good.

Speaker 8 (24:57):
Yeah they are. I've been kind of watching out, but
then day and watch any horse. Hector Burios is on
very very closely and often has my money on him.
But that's a horse that just has really emerged in
the past three months or so, and today's the big
test for him. It's a great one. It's a step
up in class. He's got to beat some better horses here.

(25:17):
And like you said, Mere Mono Ramon who Burios rode
once to a victory, did go back into Pegasus turf
and give a good account himself, like you said, with
a difficult trip with Luis Sias, and today it gets
Plaby and Pratt. So if you can have an upgrade
from Barrios and Sias, Pratt would be it. There isn't
much there but give him a nice horse on the
rail with some tactical speed and pretty interesting. So yeah,

(25:42):
that's It's always a fun turf race to kill roll
mile and I thought, just a really competitive race this year.
You're going to need a really good ride to win
this one. You're going to need the right trip today.

Speaker 11 (25:54):
I agree more hardly, and it's a you know, like
I said, it's very good to see calif when you're
turf racing a little bit better. The last couple of
years compared to what we were about five or six
years in a row. We just we just haven't had much.

Speaker 8 (26:08):
And now to see us with a couple of dice horses, yeah,
probably not since United got nailed in that Breeders Cup. Uh,
we haven't had much. Johannis, though super impressive last year.
We talked plenty about him, did not get the Eclipse Award.
Unfortunate I think, and probably uh well I disagree with that,
but that's okay. He just had a monster year and

(26:29):
it was really fun to see, uh, super competitive California
turf Force. All right, let's uh, let's jump to your race.
What you're going to do the Is it the sixth
or the fifth?

Speaker 11 (26:40):
I'm sorry it is the sixth race?

Speaker 8 (26:42):
Jason, Yeah, race six going six furlongs, allowance optional claimers.
There's some nice horses in.

Speaker 11 (26:47):
Here, there are, Jason, What I mean? This is such
an interesting race. I mean really stared at this race
for a couple of days. There are so many horses
coming off of big layoffs, self sufficient, huge layoff, Kangaroo Court,
huge layoff. When I look at these layoff horses, the
one o the thing that again we had a layoff

(27:08):
horse in Tom Horn last week. I like to see
a consistent work pattern. It is really important to me
to not see gaps in the works. And I just
want you to take a look at these two folks.
If you have a form where you have the you
have your pps in front of you, take a look
at all three of these outside horses coming off layoffs.
Kangaroo Court works December eleventh, December eighteenth, December thirtieth, a

(27:30):
little twelve day gap. Then he doesn't work again till
February seventeenth. That is really bothersome to me. I only
see two works coming in. I don't see any consistency.
Why that month and a half off? That's not a
normal thing. Self Sufficient works December twentieth, December twenty seventh.
Then he doesn't work again till February tenth, and he's
only got three works coming in. These are horses that

(27:51):
have run nice races. Look at mo Mod same thing
December twenty one, January eleventh and February ten. So I
always talk about a good work pattern on the layoff.
These are the patterns that I don't want to see.
And I think these horses are vulnerable. And you know,
really when you look at this race from a pace standpoint,
there's not a ton of it. There's a couple of

(28:11):
speed horses that are coming out playoffs. Jason, I like
number three to cause an upset in here. Books Smart.
Number three Book Smart going to be my play today.
And if you look at this horse's last dirt race,
you're you're asking me, Steve, what are you thinking? This
horse got beat twenty five lengths. You know, this horse
just wasn't ready that day. If you look at his
last race, the January twenty five race, he only got
beat a length in three quarters. That was a really

(28:32):
nice turf race. Noble reflection was in that race. He
got in front of him and he only got beat
a length and three quarters in there. Look at this
horse's turf record, it's not as good. He's not as
good a turf horse as he is on dirt. Go
back to those four del Mar races. Look at those
four races in a row, two at del Mar, one
at sant Anita where he's just rolling. And you know,
those were a little bit lesser conditions than these. But

(28:54):
I'll tell you what, he's a multiple winner. He's a
five time winner. And there are at least five horses
that have only broke in their maiden in here, even
though they look like tough horses. I think book Smart's
got a good shot in here today. For a red
hot Bob Hass. You get Mike Smith and the irons
on a speed horse that I think will be able
to clear this field early. Get over to the inside.

(29:14):
He's already kind of on the inside. Get over to
the rail, and you got a really good guy to
try to get you to hang on in here, in
Mike Smith. I'm going to use the one shady Tiger.
Just respect this horse. I do like his work pattern.
He really looks to be training well. Positivity ran really
really good last time. I'm going to use him. And
I tell you the horse I thought that ran better

(29:35):
than he did last time was the sixth horse to Pseudo.
This is another one of these horses that only has
one win. But I really liked his race last time,
and if he had a clean trip, he would have
won last time. So we're going to use those three horses.
But it's the three book Smart in here at twelve
to one to Upset in the sixth race, and he
used the one, two, and six in exact. The boxes

(29:55):
play that try first and second three with the one
two six. That's the three books Smart in the sixth
race out of Santa Nina today.

Speaker 8 (30:05):
All right, race six again, right in the middle of
the card. That should go off right around two thirty today.
Things really heat up right after that. But if BookSmart
gets the job done at twelve to one or more,
then the things will have been plenty hot. Right in
the middle of the car. Bob Hess, Really, I didn't
see this meat coming. I'm sure he did. I'm sure
he had his horses ready and was excited for this

(30:27):
meet and felt like he had some shots to take here.
But you know, three with forty seven starters, this is
an extended hot streak. So this is a guy who's
making all the right moves right now. And BookSmart is
third off the layoff here, which is often a really
good one for horses. So interesting play here in ray
six to three books Smart with one two six correct.

Speaker 11 (30:51):
That is correct, Jason, All right, huge day.

Speaker 8 (30:54):
Again those four bonus races from gaulf Stream with the
Santa Needa full card for you, Steve, I know you
put a lot work into this card and in the
Gulf Stream card, so best of luck today, get after it.
We'll know a lot more about some derby horses when
this is over, and we'll have a lot to talk
about next week.

Speaker 11 (31:11):
We sure will, Jason, everybody have a great day out there,
good luck and look forward to talking everybody next week.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
All right.

Speaker 8 (31:18):
Steve Pollock nailed Tom Horn last week, looking to do
it with probably a bigger price today and book smart
take some shots.

Speaker 9 (31:25):
That's what we do here.

Speaker 8 (31:26):
All right, We're gonna come right back.

Speaker 9 (31:27):
We got Bruno de.

Time right, there Late Ritchie heyward on, Drums, kenny grab
me on. Base that's a Little. Feet they're still out there.
Touring you get a, chance, man you're going to see
a fun. Show it's not the original, band but there's
still a few guys, left Including kenny and a Little
feet will bring. It so speaking of bringing, it this

(34:19):
guy brings it every week doing the, work putting in the,
work trying to make it. Happen mister Did, Julie good, morning.

Speaker 9 (34:25):
SIR i am grateful. TODAY i even wore my suit this.
Morning now there's a VISUAL i didn't.

Speaker 8 (34:35):
Expect, okay, wow happening at.

Speaker 9 (34:37):
Them, WELL i don't want any you, know somebody telling
me THAT i wasn't greatful my par, suit you, know
and completely forgetting about the hole this stuff we're going
to talk.

Speaker 8 (34:46):
About so.

Speaker 9 (34:49):
How are you, doing?

Speaker 8 (34:50):
Sir i'm doing. Well these are these are fun. Days
i'm grateful that they put THE pps out. Early, Now
i'm sorry it took somebody years had to, happen but it's,
happened and so let's just be happy for. That so,
really you, know dug into both of these cards At
Gulf street And San anita and enjoyed doing the, work watching,

(35:11):
replays trying to figure out, stuff and MAT's just the
fun of. IT i, mean that's that's WHY i always
enjoyed doing the, show and days like this very. Easy
there's just plenty to talk about because there's there's so
much good racing. Action So i'm, excited ready to.

Speaker 9 (35:28):
Roll, well let's let's get right to. It let's go
to The Gulf String car card, first and let's go
to the Sixth, traces a really nice strong maiden, race
AND i KNOW i am going to be sneezing here
in any second you ever had, that, well you know
you're going to be sneezing and you're just waiting for
it to. Happen. Yeah the sixth trace is really interesting

(35:52):
because a while, back When disruptor ran On january twenty,
FIFTH i was on on the show with you AND
i love the. HORSE i thought he was training, fantastic
a million dollar baby For. Pleasure and the one thing
that you always got to know is That pleasure doesn't
send short horses. Out people see the half, mile half,

(36:15):
mile half, mile but they don't realize that those half
miles are really three quarter mile. Works they'll go forty
nine to the, wire but they'll go out another quarter
of a. Mile for, example When disruptor worked On january,
eighteenth he went twenty four and, four thirty, five four forty,
seven fifty ninety four and out in thirteen and three

(36:37):
and he got a forty. Seven so anytime you look
at A portcher, horse you always got to think that
there's a quarter more mile that they don't give. You
they don't give you the credit of it on its workout.
Time so he doesn't send short, horses and this horse
is going to be even money. Again i'm going to
go with the number four shaggrolla. ROAD i don't usually have,

(37:01):
this But i've got back to back for star works
on the source From baser back On february. Second it
worked With Catching freedom and just Destroy Catching, freedom who
came back AND i don't believe he ran well last
weekend At fairgrounds IF i, Don't IF i remember, correctly
he gave him and run and. Late but then he

(37:23):
came back two weeks later On february, fifteenth when it
was much the best outside of a maiden Called chachaw
quick and again he went one on one and. THREE
i had him on my staff watch much. Faster he
went forty seven and four in a minute three and
a lot of, people for, example take a look at

(37:44):
The Payton park wines and the one thing you always, hear,
Oh Paysent's park is. Deep well not really because they're
on the honor system over. There so trainers send in
their works and it's amazing how many times you get
the forty nine forty. NINE i, mean this horse always
works forty. Nine, well there's no clocker, there there's no

(38:08):
unless you know you have videos from. There you really
don't have the. Information it's a sand based track like
Fall stream culturing that they've had a little bit more
play into. It but it's it's not about to track. Me,
indeed it's that you've got the honor system going, on
and we know in racing the honor. System, hey you,

(38:28):
know you might as well just put your hand on The.
Bible SO i just think sometimes that people get misguided
because they're just looking at those. Times but in this,
case Like Shangrila road got a one received a one
one in. Three BUT i my if you time the
race off the video, myself LIKE i, DID i, HAD
i had forty seven and a minute. Three so there's

(38:51):
a level things that sometimes people that just read the
workout times don't fully understand about the dynamics of a
particular a race.

Speaker 8 (39:00):
Track all, Right So Shangri lau, wrote you think an
upset the outside horse, here disruptor who does have the experience,
Edge But shangla is really coming into this. Race, well
before we leave the, race there's another horse in here
that's interesting because of who we worked, with and that's
the first time starter For Bill mott Named. Chillax kind

(39:20):
of a cool. Name everybody's heard.

Speaker 9 (39:22):
That but he worked With.

Speaker 8 (39:24):
Sovereignty who's in The fountain Of youth.

Speaker 9 (39:27):
Today, Yes AND i was out of the gate and
they're trying to you, Know sovereignty is a turtle out
of the. Gate, literally he's just doesn't have any speed at.
All And chillax worked, very very. WELL i was very
oppressed the demeanor Of chillax AND i picked him second in.

(39:48):
Here you Know Bill, mott he's been known to pull his,
offset especially with first time starters over these kind of.
Days all the, trainers you, know days like, This, jason
it's like it's like even The cinderella stepsisters want to
go to the, dance, right everybody wants to be seen
at the. Dance so when so a lot of trainers

(40:11):
and and you don't want to put their best sources
in those, races because that's how they get. Clients they
get to go to the. Dance, yeah that's.

Speaker 8 (40:20):
Right and there's other people there watching, too they're, going you,
know Maybe i'm going to change. Trainers my guy didn't
have the horse, Ready but but that guy always seems
to win on the big. Days i'm always here on
the big, days and he's always in The Winter, circle
and that happens more than you. Think, uh you, know,
owners you, know people are like you know, WHAT i don't.
Know so there's a lot of that going on in
the big, days a lot of. Gamesmanship but you really

(40:43):
need to put your best foot forward on days like,
this go.

Speaker 9 (40:46):
Mate like LIKE i always, say it's going to the,
ball you, Know, yeah.

Speaker 8 (40:54):
There you. Go so it's very interesting made and. Race
they have races like this every couple of. Weeks then
stream they're still loaded with young. Horses but like you,
said on a, big big day Like found Of Youth,
day you get racist like, this and you get trainers
making sure that their horses ready to run because they
know others. Are so you, know you send your whoever's

(41:14):
your best ready to do this thing in. There so
that's RaSE six right smack in the middle of a
fourteen race, card one of one of the non stakes.
Races in, fact after this they're all stakes. Races races
seven through, fourteen all. STEAKS i thought almost all of
them good competitive races, too so really fun to dig.
In you had a lot of work to do on this.

Speaker 9 (41:35):
Card, yeah we did do a lot of work on this,
card and you get the full workout report for all these.
Races and let's talk about the found The youth by the, Way,
yeah the found The. Youth you, Know i'm very grateful this.
Morning that's WHY i got dressed up because you, Know
Golfstream park announced that they were going to be extending

(41:57):
the run up for The fountain Of. View they, did
and WHICH i sent. YOU i put out a, blog aren't?
It AND i didn't really mince my. Words my only
question is we're in? Reality is that gates gonna be?
Placed because in the, Past Gulf Stream park has been

(42:21):
littered with traditionally having questions on. Timing oh, yeah, yes
and and what they've, done And i'm going to give
them credit for, This they're what they've. Done they've Absolutely
i've created the ability to not have anybody criticizing them

(42:45):
about the times because there's no way in hell you
can use the euphemism you can where are you going
to start timing those? Orders so and the problem has
been is they run. Ups it's they don't put the
gate in the right. Place and you, know, yeah they
post the run up to, it but a lot of

(43:06):
times it doesn't. Jive so they've done a great job
of hiding who you know how to you, know from
people being critics on their timing. System so my old question,
is first of, all why make it such a big,
Deal and then you get the whole microcosm of society

(43:28):
that everybody's got to chime in on social. Media everybody's
got to report it because one guy reported it and
the second guy reported. It now you've got all the
social media people all reporting it and they're all talking about.
It they're all. Geniuses probably doesn't most of them don't
even know what the actual run up that for that race,
is and it was around sixty to seventy five, Feet

(43:50):
so now they're moving it BACK i think another thirty something,
feet you, know and it's just confuses players because now
they think the outcome is going to be. Different it
doesn't change the. Outcome run up does not change the
outcome of the. Race what it changes is the initial
splits of that. Race if it changes the splits of that,

(44:12):
race if the run up is a long run, up
the initial split is going to be. Quicker and if
you get an initial split that's, quicker it's going to
affect your final, time where if run up is, short
it's going to affect your first. Split it's going to be,
slower so your final time is going to be. Slower
so you could have two races run at different run
ups exactly the same, race and you get two different.

(44:34):
Times so that's just sort of, saying, OKAY i got
that off my, chest you, know so great and.

Speaker 8 (44:39):
So, well, well, well let folks, know you, know to
think about it after the. Fact the opening split for
this race is going to be fast because they've got
eighty five feet a run up here or eighty five
feet More i'm not, sure which doesn't really, matter but,
yes it's a longer run, up so it should be
a faster opening split and a faster time for This Fountain.

(45:01):
Youth but it doesn't really affect the. Race it may
give a, horse you, know like we, said eighty five
feet more to get to that first, term which is
less than thirty, yards which is still not that big a.
Deal it's a little bit more space to get to
that first. Term so there's. That but let's talk about
how these horses have been, working because this is a,
big big race and there's some big horses in here

(45:22):
that the connections have big hopes, for Like Burnham, square
like Sovereignty River thames For Todd, pletcher AND i know
there's another horse you really like in.

Speaker 9 (45:31):
Here, WELL i, mean first of, all. Sovereignty AS i,
mentioned it's a turtle from the. Gate they try to
work from from the gate to actually be able to
get them these juices falling and get him the break.
Better he's just slow and that was my working With,
shlas who looks like he's got a little bit of.
Speed they went the first quarter in twenty five and

(45:51):
this horse must be a pushlong rate to keep up
with the, maiden so sovereignty to, me you, know unless
they completely fall. Part he's the kind of horse that
that is a bit last HORSE i would. Use you've
got gate to wire For pleasure coming over off a
seven for a long. Wait by the, way do you
Notice pleasure doesn't really have anything for The derby this?

(46:11):
Year just a little, something aren't?

Speaker 4 (46:14):
There not?

Speaker 9 (46:15):
Yet you'll fabricate. Something, yeah you've got seven. Nucleus if
Hopefully i'm pronouncing it, CORRECTLY.

Speaker 8 (46:25):
I think it's. Quis, yeah it doesn't.

Speaker 9 (46:27):
Matter, yeah well, yeah neo quiz tomato tomato, whatever the,
motto the, motto whatever you want to pronounced. It this
is an interesting horse because if you know the, fountain
that's the history of the he is. That i'm a
big believer in the history of a. Race you, know
The Artist brothers has won it three out of the
last four. Years doesn't surprise. Me you know Ose wan

(46:51):
or TWICE I rads, Wanted Luis saya has won it last.
Year this, year, WELL I rad jumps On nucleus.

Speaker 2 (47:02):
For.

Speaker 9 (47:03):
Saffie. Yep and this horse is really really. Interesting one
of my one of my friends owns this. Horse but
a couple of works in. Here and if you went
back and watched the, RACES i, mean would you say
rated By merit was one of the probably the fastest

(47:24):
two year old last year other than Maybe Citizen, bowls
since he won The Breeders cup and two Year Old.

Speaker 8 (47:31):
Champion, yeah he's Very he was very fast last. Year
and this horse faced him TWICE i, believe maybe even three. Times, yeah.
Twice he ran second to, him twice back to.

Speaker 9 (47:40):
Back AND i think social stretch out and you you
do your handicapping going up and down this. List is
there a ton of speed in?

Speaker 1 (47:49):
Here?

Speaker 8 (47:51):
Surprisingly, not you, know not huge. Speed, No so you
think this horse is a chance to get the. Lead
you THINK i ran maybe can control this.

Speaker 9 (47:59):
Thing, YEAH i definitely believe. SO i, mean he's quick
out of the, gate he runs like he's a, router
and he's got a lot of guts to. HIM i
JUST i kept looking up and, down AND i kept
looking at the morning line and, going here's another bogus morning.
LINE i was the first time Irat ortiz is going
to be ten to one in The fountain Of. Youth yeah, right,

(48:20):
okay you know that's WHY i wore my suit. TODAY
i didn't want to again if anybody mad at, me.

Speaker 4 (48:26):
But it burned.

Speaker 9 (48:27):
Up square is a neat little horse and it comes
from a humble barn Of Ian. Wilkes this horse has
done everything. RIGHT i can't knock. On he ran right
by a really good horse Intop Pound street THAT i
liked last time on the. Show so it's going to
be a really interesting race from that point of view
because the lack of real pace and now with the

(48:48):
long run, up now he's going to be able to
come from that six sole excuse, me and from the seventh.
Hole and the only other horse's got the speed in.

Speaker 10 (48:57):
There Is River.

Speaker 8 (48:57):
Thoms, yeah next right next To i'm right inside, him
which will be very interesting to see if they try
to fly out of there and hold that, position or
if the seven is able to clear the Six River,
thames who comes off a nice mile. Wind For, fletcher
he's two for two and did it. Impressively it's got
to go a little farther.

Speaker 9 (49:15):
Today, well one thing about him that bothers. Me that's
to be his third race in forty five.

Speaker 8 (49:21):
Days, YES i noted that that's unusual For. Fletcher that's
pushing on a horse a little. Bit that's really. Surprising all,
Right so you're going with. Me of course in here
To spring the upset probably won't get the ten to,
one but you'll get a price on him for. SURE
i read In Saffy joseph together in The fountain Of
Youth grunel BEFORE i let you. Go got a note

(49:43):
or two On.

Speaker 9 (49:44):
CALIFORNIA i always Thought locked was a one turn late running.
Sprinter and he's the kind of horse that seems like
going two turns falls a little too far. Back he
comes running way too. Late he's done it a number of.
Times his best effort was around one. Turn so my

(50:10):
whole thought on that, is you, know try to beat
him if you. Can and the other part of it
is the, other the other in The San. Felipe this
is a. Shocker Jason baffort's gonna win The. Canfelpe this
is the whipperhorse In. Rodriguez, YEAH i mentioned him.

Speaker 8 (50:27):
Earlier he'll be a little bit higher priced Than barnes for,
sure And rodriguez is the one with the two turn,
experience SO i guess we can call him the Other, Baffort.

Speaker 9 (50:38):
Yeah because you know, what he's going to be higher
odds and we're going to Beat.

Speaker 11 (50:43):
Barnes but don't tell.

Speaker 8 (50:44):
Anybody, okay well you just. Did but The whisper horses
have been running, very very, nicely so let's keep the role.
Going bruno has always really appreciated a lot of work
went in to, SAY i know it both tracks and.
Others if you're working on so hope it all plays
out really well for, you and we'll talk to you next.

Speaker 9 (51:01):
Week i'm gonna take this suit off At, sachet see you,
later all, Right bruno De.

Speaker 8 (51:06):

Com you're listening to The PATRIOT am eleven fifty.

Speaker 9 (52:07):
Down on the.

Speaker 8 (52:08):
Farm we're back here On Inside racing ON am eleven.
Fifty it's the final. SEGMENT i got some company right,
here so working things out there with, me. Folks we
Got Jay freelander with me to close the. Show jay
big enough car At Gulf stream in Sana edo for you,
today too, MUCH i, think So good Morning, jason, morning. Sir,

(52:31):
yeah this should be this should be a fun. One
we'll know a lot more about the run ups to
The derby after, today and just a lot of really
really high quality horses running at both tracks. Today so
very excited about.

Speaker 9 (52:45):
That, yeah very.

Speaker 10 (52:47):
Much SO i wanted to, mention by the, way that
While Lowell george is no longer with there's his daughter In.
Nara george has her own, Group The bird and The,
bee and has been very, successful so look for her AROUND.
La but, YEAH i wanted to talk about the third
track you. Mentioned you Mentioned aqueduct and passing on The,
Gotham so, yeah obviously you've got the two undefeated horses.
There you Have sacrasanct and Stand devil throwing it. Down

(53:09):
they both came off very narrow winds in minor. Stakes
the ONE i, like, though is the Brad cox. HORSE
i like number seven Flood, zone who just won maiden
race nicely At gulfstream And bloomy by five and a
quarter and just looks like it's got a lot of
potential and he's twelve to, one SO i think Flood

(53:30):
zone could easily give those two undefeated horses a run
for their. Money AND i just wanted to mention one
other that is probably not ready, today but McAfee the
a half brother to Thorpedo enna of the Same marisatades
just you, know one made nicely and then decent Starter
allowance went got a way to. Develop but can you

(53:52):
imagine this horse went for forty thousand dollars at the
sale because that was Before Thorpedo anna did, anything and that's, like,
wow that's kind of a nice forty thousand dollars investment to.

Speaker 8 (54:01):
Have it. IS i think this horse is kind of.
Interesting i'm glad you brought him. UP i, Mean Dick dutro.
Trains he ran twice At, churchill won the first race,
nicely just got beat the second. Race he's given him
a couple of months AND i think this is the
worse for you, know obviously the breeding is, there and
it looks like the talent is. There so he's really
really interesting in this race, today AND i think Flood

(54:25):
Zone i'm glad you mentioned him. Too he didn't cost,
much but he certainly looks like he's got a. Future
so we'll keep an eye on. That, gotham which goes
as race eight At, aqueducts should be in about one
fifteen or one Twenty california time. Today got to have
a note card to keep track of everything that's going.
On this is one of those days where you just
got to know when where they're. Running so that's The.

(54:46):
Gotham all, right let's jump down To Gulf, stream where
you had an awfully nice winter last, week twenty six
dollars winter down there among your four scores at Gulf.
Stream so let's let's go for four more today at, least.

Speaker 11 (54:59):
Well let's do.

Speaker 10 (54:59):
It we've got fourteen races should.

Speaker 9 (55:01):
Be able to get.

Speaker 10 (55:02):
For so, yeah the favorite here number eleven Full, nelson
AND i do have to think that some of the
reason for the. Favorites anytime we've got a four to one,
favorite you, know the lines may were, Saying, wow who
DO i make the? Favorite And i've got to think
some of that is because the Rat ortiz takes them,
out and he's obviously going to take some money because
he's a. Rat but there are other horses here THAT

(55:24):
i think that are well capable of taking this guy.
Today AND i look At, enlightened who comes off a
couple of nice. Wins but the ONE i like here
is the one that A lightened beat a couple, back
and That's Echo. Lane Echo lane is a horse that
has had a very very good record At, goldstream three

(55:44):
for five and two in the money, overall has been
in the money in the majority of the, starts so
he's always right. There has won two of the last.
Three the one he lost To enlightened for some, reason
just didn't get off. Well he usually just off the
pace and usually grinds down that pace center and often

(56:04):
comes out on. Top for some reason that race turn
lighton just did not pop the gate well and just
left himself too much to. Do BUT i Think Echo
lane Under LUIS i s who has a slew of
bounce down there, today most of them With Brad, cox
AND i think those two are poised for a huge
day down. THERE i just think at eight to, one
this one's a, steal all.

Speaker 8 (56:24):
Right and then again this is RaSE five at Gulf
Stream park just before the. Race bruno was talking about RaSE. Six,
again these are right before all the stakes. Races Echo
lane on the, grass six time winner and three for
five with two thirds at Gulf Stream park on the turf. Course,
There so definitely a horse for course exotics in.

Speaker 10 (56:42):
Here, yeah, yeah we'll play a trifecta here and we'll
of course use the Favorite Phil. Nelson we'll of course
use In lighten who Beating Echo. Lane But i've got
a pretty big long shot to throw in there as.
Well and that number One Northern. Flame Northern flame is
thirty to one against much, better has some early speed
and wouldn't be surprised if that one popped the gate

(57:03):
and took. Off and, Well i'm not as. Enthusiastic number
Ten Greek order is a first time, guilding so we'll
Use greek order as. Well so play it like, this
fifty cent trifecta eight with one three ten eleven with
all play the best ones again as, always eight with
one three ten eleven with one three ten, eleven one
three ten eleven with eight with one three ten eleven
and one three ten eleven with one three ten. Eleven number,

(57:26):
Eight echo, lane AND i think that price is going
to largely. HOLD i think you know At wars drops
a six to, one so not only a win, bet
but a nice place bet as.

Speaker 9 (57:35):
Well all, Right i'm Echo.

Speaker 8 (57:37):
Lane let's Get Northern flame into that try and then
we'll have plenty of money to play the rest of
the card. With that's that'll be a really really nice
one At Gulfstream. Park all, right let's jump over to Sant.

Speaker 10 (57:48):
Anita let's do, it and, uh we're gonna look at
a comebacker. Here you've got raise six from From steam
and we're going to go to RaSE five, here and
you've Gotten fisa here is the. Favorite The fisa cost
one point eight million at the sale For, bafford and
it's really been largely a. DISAPPOINTMENT i mean six starts

(58:08):
to listen broken or. Maiden, yeah and so we're going
to try to knock her off. Here and the ONE
i like here is a shipper From Gulf. Stream that's
number Three Houston Rose Richard, baltis who's back in the,
swing takes Over jose Or, chiese who's been tearing it
up At, fairgrounds takes them.

Speaker 9 (58:25):
Out so have to like.

Speaker 10 (58:26):
That jose was on for the first race and that
was this one's actual best ran on the, turf ran
fresh down A Gulf stream, park a good, third earning
best brisk figure in her arsenal there and now finally
gets back to the. Turf don't know why it took so,
long but liking number Three Holston rose here to spring
them out upset at ten to.

Speaker 8 (58:46):
ONE i agree with. YOU i don't know why they
went off the turf, here BUT i think this, SOURCE i,
mean This philly is where she needs to be back
on The grass sprinting here At San. Anita so the
Three halston rose, quickly let's.

Speaker 10 (59:00):
The exotics and yes weel that exact three with all.

Speaker 6 (59:03):
And all with.

Speaker 8 (59:04):
Three, Okay alston rose to three in race, Five another
nice play for you With Jose ortiz looking to have
a big day on Big cap day out at Sant. Anita,
JAY i appreciate it as. Always knock him dead. Today
we'll talk to.

Speaker 9 (59:17):
You a week from.

Speaker 8 (59:18):
