Speaker 1 (00:02):
And now it's time for Joe Escalante Live from Hollywood.
If by Hollywood you mean Burbank across the street promo meaners,
it's all that's serves Beer.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Good Evening, America. The Big Program is back two hours
of the business, End of Show Business, every Sunday on
k E. I be right here at eleven fifty on
your AM dial, coming to you live today from the
TWA Hotel at the JFK Airport in New York City.
A lot of stuff on the program today as usual,

(00:44):
but let's start with a segment that we like to
call celebrities behaving badly. Yes, today we're talking about a
name that might take you back a bit. Orlando Brown.
Remember him. He was the funny, lovable best friend Eddie
Thomas on the hit Disney Channel show That's So Raven. Well,

(01:08):
unfortunately the former child stars in the news again and
it's not for a comeback role. Orlando Brown was arrested
this past Thursday in Lima, Ohio. According to the Allen
County Sheriff's Office records, Brown was booked on charges of
assault and aggravated menacing. Did you hear that aggravated menacing?

(01:28):
If I ever am arrested, and I never have been.
Some people might be surprised by that considering my dark
punk rock background, but never been arrested. But if I
ever do get arrested, I would like to be arrested
for aggravated menacing. The specific details of that incident haven't
been fully released as they pertain to Orlando Brown. My

(01:53):
aggravated menacing will come in the future. The rest is
partly a sorry. This arrest sadly part of a long
and very public pattern of legal troubles and personal struggles
for Brown over the past decade. Now let's go to
another celebrity behaving badly, Little Nas. Little Nas arrested a

(02:22):
couple of days ago, Thursday actually, while walking down Ventura
Boulevard in his underwear and cowboy boots at five fifty am. Wow,
you're sticking to the hospital and concerns of an overdose,
so he's in bad shape. This stuff was reported by TMZ,
That's where I found out about it, and he was
seen walking down the street, as I said, not completely naked,

(02:49):
underwearing cowboy boots, which I think that's fine about. You know,
two in the afternoon when the heat is out and
you just you know, just can't you don't want to
do laundry, so you're walking around with no shirt. I
think that's why people walk around with no shirts. Part
of it, I guess I don't walk around with no
short but you know, so according to the report, he

(03:13):
later stripped actually naked, and then he lunged at police officers.
So he was doing fine until he did that, and
then more officers are called to the scene, and yeah,
they're looking at probably an overdose in that situation. You know,

(03:34):
it's five point fifty in the morning, So who knows
where he was before that. As a rock and roll manager,
I can tell you many things could have led up
to that, and I'll tell you what it is, because
why not be honest here since I know how this works.
Little Nas probably fine if he hung around with his

(03:56):
friends that care about him. But if he's hanging around
with people that look at him as a target for
a good time or free stuff, that's what happens. So
Little Nas and people like him. If I'm wrong about him, apologize.
But you know, these guys are successful entertainers. They have money,

(04:20):
and people kind of in the orbit are like, let's
go hang out with Little Nas. We're all gonna get high.
He's gonna pay for it. And anybody who just has
that mindset from the get go is a bad fish.
I think what they call him sometimes so that person

(04:43):
their motives, you know, a lot of it is narcissism.
They think they're the lead character in this situation. I'm
the lead character. I'm gonna call Little Nas. I'm gonna
do drugs with them. I'm gonna have a great time.
I love that little Nas. I love him like a brother.
I wouldn't let anything ever happen to him. But I'm
going to get high with him, and we're all going

(05:03):
to get out of control, and pretty soon he's going
to be walking around naked Unventura Boulevard. So that's how
it happens. I guarantee that's how it happened this time.
So Lil Nas, if you're listening to the show again
this time, take my advice. Don't hang out. Try to

(05:25):
write down everybody who you were with yesterday, cut him
out of your life, go to AA and join the
Catholic Church. If you're not our I don't that's my
only I know some people think that's not the answer,
but for me, easy, no brainer join the Catholic Church,
follow every single dis instruction, and you will not be

(05:46):
arrested for walking around naked on Ventura Boulevard. I've got
one other piece of advice for a little nas and
everyone else out there. If you don't want to be arrested,
if you're a celebrity and you don't want to be arrested,

(06:07):
or if you don't want to be a celebrity who
was arrested, what do all our celebrities that were arrested
today have in common. Yes, you're right, they're both rappers.
If you don't want to be arrested, ever, don't be
a rapper. And that is It kind of reminds me

(06:32):
of some advice I got from my sister, who was
an intern in the Harbor General Emergency Room, which is
in the South Bay. It's where you would get people
in like the Compton, Inglewood, Lomita area would come in

(06:54):
there a lot of stab wounds, and she said to me,
I've never had a stabbing patient that didn't have tattoos.
So if you don't want to be stabbed, don't get
any tattoos. Now. I know everybody in the world has

(07:15):
tattoos now, but this advice was given to me in
about nineteen eighty one eighty two, and it seemed pretty simple.
You can have a tattoo and not get stabbed, but
you cannot get stabbed unless you have a tattoo. So

(07:36):
if you don't get a tattoo, you won't get stabbed.
Pretty simple to me, And considering tattoos were expensive, my
body was too skinny to look good into tattoo. Now,
everybody gets a tattoo. But when I was at the
age of thinking about tattoos, hanging around with the degenerates

(07:57):
that I U, for some reason, chose to hang out with. Everybody.
You know, guys with muscles, bikers, ex convicts, They will
get tattoos and they look great in them until they
got stabbed. But to me, I was too scrawny. In fact,
they used my name is escalante. They used to call
me extra Scrani and so. And I had a lot

(08:20):
of friends that give tattoos. I love these guys to death.
But in anyways, and this week, in this week only,
in the crime report, don't be a rapper the end. Okay,
we're gonna take a break. We're going to listen to
some traffic reports. It's gonna be awesome, and then we're
gonna come back with more. Joe Escalante Live from Hollywood.

(08:43):
Joe Escalante Live from Hollywood. If by Hollywood you mean Burbank,
but in this case, we are live from the TWA
Hotel in New York City at the JFK Airport. If
you haven't been to this hotel, it's it's amazing. It's
like staying in Tomorrowland. This happened to me accidentally. Not accidentally,

(09:03):
but my tour managers put me in this hotel while
I'm waiting for my flight back to LA and super awesome.
It's like tomorrow Land. It's like you literally went into
Tomorrowland in Disneyland, but not modern day Tomorrowland, like nineteen
fifties and sixties Tomorrowland. So super cool. I'm out here

(09:23):
with Sublime a string of shows, very successful, Thank you.
The band is on fire. Number one on a rival
radio station that I won't mention that, and also probably
number one on the iHeart station as well in Los

(09:44):
Angeles and climbing the charts everywhere. Number five this week
in the country, an alternative radio and that's my day job,
managing these guys. And they're doing great, but they are
a handful. I have to admit, as you know, I
bought a house in Cotino, the Disneyland property in Rancho

(10:08):
Mirage that my wife and I are building right now.
But that's like a living in the Disneyland of the future.
What does Disneyland want to be in the future. They
want to be a gated community for people that just
want a house in a cool place with a crystal

(10:28):
lagoon and a bunch of water activities instead of golf activities.
There's plenty of golf courses in the Rancho Mirage Palm
Springs area, so I guess they decided we didn't need one. However,
there's plenty to do there with the water stuff, and
that's the Disneyland of the future kind of or the

(10:51):
private club of the future. But this thing at twa
if you want to look at the Disneyland of the past,
spend at least a night in this thing. Because my
one complain about Disneyland is they change it all the time,
and they never change it for the better for someone
like me who's old and you know, trying to reminisce.

(11:11):
So if you do go to Disneyland, enjoy it because
that day will be the best day of Disneyland that
you'll ever have again, because the next day they will
change it and you won't like it. So go there today.
That's my Disneyland report. We haven't had Brady McDonald on
in a while. We'll get in back here to see
what's going on with all that seventieth anniversary stuff and

(11:37):
going on down there. Okay, now, let's get to the
box office. How's that box office? Big story at the
box office is the continued dominance of the horror film Weapons,
which is on track to win its third consecutive weekend.
If it wasn't for this pesky animated K pop demon

(12:01):
hunter movie. That is. Projections for this weekend show about
thirteen million, bringing its domestic total to over one hundred
and fifteen million dollars. That's a lot for horror movie,
because a horror movie doesn't take a lot of money
to make. Freak your Friday still holding steady up there

(12:24):
at number three, Fantastic Four still hanging on. It's a
good movie. I recommend it. And Superman still strong at
the top of the charts in the late stages of
the its theatrical run. Now the number one movie is
something called K Pop Demon Hunters now k Pop Demon

(12:46):
Hunters is a Korean animated or anime film or whatever,
and it's about this well renowned K pop girl group
who are at the height of their fame. They're celebrated
for their talent, their fashion, and sold out concerts. However,

(13:10):
behind these glamorous public persona, the members lead a secret
double life as badass Demon Hunters. Oh yeah. It follows
the group as they balance the demands of their global
stardom with their secret mission to track down and vanquish
a host of evil spirits. The film is described as

(13:33):
a celebration of Korean culture, food, and fashion, set against
a backdrop of vibrant music and thrilling supernatural action. A
lot of these animated Asian movies deal with some spiritual
elements and the old spirits and triumph over evil. And

(13:56):
you know, I think I saw one called Nijah. We
probably talked about that before. It was like evidently the
most highest grossing animated film of all time coming out
of China, and that dealt with these these spirits, like
you know, it's going to be good over evil, these
evil spirits. But if your kid is a Christian, you know,
all these spirits are evil, so it's a two edged

(14:19):
sword in that battle of good over evil. Gotta be careful,
I think. But it is number one. So all these
movies I'm talking about they're doing okay, But this K
pop Demon Hunter went ahead and took in eighteen million

(14:41):
dollars over the weekend. Sure it's good, okay, weapons I
haven't seen it. I've been traveling too much. This rock
and roll band. I wish they had a secret life
as demon Hunters, but they don't. I wish they had
a secret life of people that would just get down
to the lobby in time. That'd be great. It's a

(15:01):
rock and roll band and they're crazy and glamorous, but
their secret life is they get down to the lobby
on time. All right, let's take a look at what's
going on in the streaming industry right now. Apple TV
that's the big news. On August twenty first, Apple TV

(15:25):
Plus increased its monthly price in the US from nine
ninety nine to twelve ninety nine. This is their third
price hike in as many years, and pretty significant jump.
So Apple TV is, if you don't know, it's a
streaming service that doesn't seem to care how much money
they spend on their programs, so all the programs do

(15:50):
not suffer from lack of good television writing and high
production values. So if you watch any of their shows,
they're going to be high quality. They're on the woke scale.
They're over the top, that's true, but like Ted Lasso,
take a look at that for instance, first season, hilarious,

(16:11):
second season, all of a sudden, He's the most sensitive
guy in the world, and I'm out. Top shows are Severance,
Slow Horses, haven't watched it, Silo Pachinko, and Ted Lasso.
Shrinking That's about a shrinks mythic quest. It's a workplace

(16:34):
comedy set in the development studio of a popular multi
player video game. I thought it was funny for a while,
but I couldn't hang on the ones I like there.
Palm Royale. That's set in the high society of Palm
Beach in nineteen sixty nine. Some twa vibes going on
there and the series follows Christian Wig character. Her name's Maxine,

(16:56):
and she's desperately trying to break into the exclusive and
wealthy social scene down there in Palm Beach. Very stylish.
Ricky Martin stars in it. He's pretty amazing and I
highly recommend that Stick with Owen Wilson. That's another one
on Apple Plus. And I'm kind of telling you about
these because I had a guy tell me the other day, hey,

(17:19):
can you recommend some TV shows? And I go, yeah,
I named some TV shows on Apple and he said,
I don't have that. I'm like, okay, sorry, if you
don't have it, get it. I don't know, but stick.
Owen Wilson is a golf guy. He sounds great. He's
a golf pro down on his luck and he's going

(17:42):
to help some young guy become the next big golfer.
But I gotta tell you it just didn't deliver. Mark
Maren's in it, and I love Mark Maron as a
podcaster and as a stand up. I don't like him
as an actor too much because he's kind of monotone

(18:02):
in one note. I guess monotone is one note. But
but he's a star, you know, he puts butts in
the seats, So what are you gonna do? I don't know.
Didn't like Owen Wilson. Didn't I thought, yeah, can do
no wrong in my book, but this one didn't work
for me. But In any case, most people don't have

(18:24):
Apple Plus because they just have too many things, and
now it's even more expensive, so I don't know how
this is gonna work work out for them. I think
what it's gonna end up happening is even less people
are going to watch these shows, and no one watches
them now, but some of them are really really good.
All right, let's take a break to check the traffic,
et cetera, and be back Joe Scalante live from Hollywood,
