If us heared it and love you, I'll tell you that.
Speaker 6 (01:52):
Hello, we're here.
Speaker 8 (01:53):
Feeling is mutual.
Speaker 6 (01:56):
Well, think about it.
Speaker 7 (01:57):
I mean we've talked a lot.
Speaker 6 (01:59):
You've been here.
Speaker 7 (02:00):
This is your fortieth season. Gamble wasn't built when you arrived,
but obviously you knew this was coming, right, ten thousand people,
the greatest fans in the country. I mean you didn't.
They didn't want to charge fans when Campbell first opened
because they didn't think people would come.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Right.
Speaker 6 (02:22):
Look what you guys have built.
Speaker 7 (02:26):
Yeah, what does one thousand? What does knowing all of that,
what does can you put into words for us what
one thousand two want?
Speaker 9 (02:33):
Are you set any over there?
Speaker 7 (02:36):
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (02:38):
It's I was asked earlier, how to explain it, How
to explain you know, all these forty years and everything
that went into the forty years, And it's not possible, obviously,
in a short period of time to go over all
the things that went into having this happen. We never
(03:03):
we never sat down and said, uh, hey, let's let's
make a plan. Let's make a forty year plan and
let's you know, let's let's let's see if we can
make this happen. Uh Like D said and Sue said,
and Maya said, it's it's about just coming here every
(03:23):
day and trying to be better than we were yesterday,
and the frustrations that go along with that, the fun
things that go along with that, when you see players
get better, when you see them do things that they
didn't think they could do, when you see them cut
down a neck because they just want a national championship.
It's the things that that they ended up getting when
(03:47):
they came here that made it worthwhile to keep staying here.
And the more that we stayed. The more they came,
the more they accomplished, the more we wanted to stay,
and the more we stayed, the more people came. So
the best way to explain it is there's probably I
don't know how many If.
Speaker 8 (04:07):
There's sixty two, sixty three, sixty.
Speaker 9 (04:09):
Four, however many there are here, plus who's ever not here.
There's one hundred and how many players we said we
had one hundred, whatever, that number is one hundred and fifty,
one hundred and sixty hundred, So there's really one hundred
and sixty stories that could explain how this all happened.
And each player that played here has their own story.
(04:30):
Some of it's a nightmare, some of it's a fairy tale,
right because you can't you can't draw up Stewie and
Tuck and Mariah and that whole team. You can't draw
up that story because that is a fairy tale. To
go to college, play four years and win four national championships.
That doesn't happen. But what also is a fairy tale
(05:00):
is those kids that came here as walk ons and
just wanted to be part of it, and yet they
were treated just like they were the national player of
the year coming out.
Speaker 8 (05:11):
Of high school.
Speaker 9 (05:11):
They were treated with the same level of respect as
the best player in the country was. And then eventually
they got a scholarship, and then they graduated and went
on to do great things. And for those players, it
truly was a fairy tale come true because they were
never recruited, they were never thought of as playing at
(05:33):
this level, and yet we gave them that opportunity, and
then they gave us that sense of this is what
you're doing the people's lives, and no amount of championships
and no amount of numbers or awards or anything like
that can take the place of the lives that we've impacted,
(05:55):
that they've allowed us to impact. To me is the
strongest part is I know see Deep alluded to it.
We've impacted one hundred and some lives, some great, some
a little, and some a tiny bit. But we did
(06:15):
have an impact on every single one. But they all
had an impact on us, some a little, some a
little more, and some great. But when it's when it's over,
you know, whenever it is, whenever this is all over,
what we'll remember is tonight we'll remember this, and I'll
(06:40):
remember each and every one of my players that I've
ever coached. I'll remember then when they were seventeen and
the look in their eyes of coach, can you help
me do this? And I say, I don't know. I
think I can, but you know, we'll see. And now
we look back forty years later and I would say,
(07:05):
I don't know how much I helped them get what
they wanted, but they helped me get everything I wanted.
So thank you and the the you know, the unsung
(07:33):
heroes that are all here, you know that work in
our office that all through the years. Sarah has been
with us since nineteen ninety five, you know, and so
many other people have had a hand in all this.
And my family's here for the first time, all kind
(07:53):
of old, yeah old. That's left all of them together
over there.
Speaker 6 (08:04):
Jenna, Mike, so, Jetta's kids, So we.
Speaker 9 (08:09):
Got Kathy's over there, and uh, Christian and Andrew and Luke,
my grants kids, and uh Todd and my son in
law and Jenna and Alyssa, Michael, my son, Caitlin, his wife, Gea,
their daughter, Uh, my brother Fruge and Thenardo and Nikki
and one of our practice players, Nicholas.
Speaker 8 (08:37):
Night.
Speaker 9 (08:40):
So you know, my family has grown up here and
uh ceedee and I have grown up here and you
all have made it an incredibly, incredibly special.
Speaker 8 (08:56):
There.
Speaker 9 (08:57):
There there was a time, See he was right when
we had to bribe students to come to the games.
We we encouraged them to come, and we were thrilled
when they came because for these for these kids that played,
they're your team, they're your teammates. You go to class
(09:19):
with them, they know you, you know them, and they
represent you even more than they represent these fans that
that come and watch us. You know, you are Connecticut,
you are the University of Connecticut.
Speaker 8 (09:31):
And that's what it was.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
M hmm.
Speaker 9 (09:48):
I was a little disappointed.
Speaker 8 (09:50):
Because the guys that have those uh h yeah, I
was a little disappointed because I thought you would streak
along this carpet and it would be all over ESPN.
Speaker 6 (10:06):
All right, four young men with blue body paintless gino. Yeah,
here they go. He knows, having a lot of fun
with these boys. Go to high fives, all.
