(00:00):
Or back at elle at Ballpark.Mike cris Bado, along with the Jim
Pender's, head coach of the Husky'sa good win. Twenty runs, fifteen
hits. I don't know how manytimes in your career, and you've been
around a while, have you seenhitting around back to back innings like we
had a wow. I mean fifteenbatters in the second, thirteen and the
third. Yeah, I was remarkable, second and third, and he had

(00:21):
a great response. The kid, their starter looked really, really tough in
the first and the swings we weregetting were not good. And then you
know, he hit Corey to leadoff the second. After you know,
they get to on a homer, and it looked like he totally changed.
You know. I know he's beenbattling something, but his year last year

(00:42):
was outstanding, and I think they'rejust trying to get him going. I
think that's why they left him in. They're trying to get him to figure
some things out. But he waslike a totally different guy, and we
just got to him and took advantageof the freebie. I think they gave
us five freebies in that second inningand we scored nine runs. Everybody talks
about the home runs, but itwas the five if if there don't give
us the freebies's three three, threeruns instead of nine. Yeah, Noah

(01:04):
Lewis started for them. He wasone four coming in, he's O one
five. Now, before we getto all the hitting, let's talk about
Joe Sonella for a second. Here. Three innings pitched, He was a
little wild, he walked three guys, but he was able to kind of
get himself together. I'm sure tohelp when his team put nine on the
board there for him. Yeah, sometimes it helps. Sometimes it hurts because
it's like I just gotta throw strikes. They just gotta throw strikes, and

(01:25):
maybe they try to do too much. I think Joe and we're still learning.
He's an older guy, but he'sused to regular work and he hasn't
had he hasn't been out there ina couple of weeks, and so I
think we may have learned, Hey, we need to use him a little
bit more often. If that means, you know, getting him into a
game on the weekend, what haveyou? We need to We need to
probably use him a little bit morebecause he did not look at all like

(01:46):
himself. He's a strike thrower andhe wasn't today. He was missing.
You know, those two leadoff walkswere uncharacteristic, and then he had the
two out walk and the third andyou know, we just want to get
him off the mound so we coulduse him out of the pen this weekend.
Yeah, he had eleven appearances prioreighteen and a third coming into this
one. But the bats were hot. I mean, you get twelve runs

(02:06):
against Bryant, now you follow itup with twenty. Where would you rate
the confidence of your hitters. Wetalked about this a week or two ago
and you were saying, man,we can't hit with anybody on base anymore.
Butause that's changed now. It wasdark the last time we spoke him,
and we were in a bad place. I do feel like, you
know, we've got Maddox. Youknow, I didn't like his last at
bat off to the soft lefty, but I think he's he's seen them all

(02:30):
much better. He looks like amuch more confident hitter. Luke Broadhurst the
last two days especially, has justbeen really really centered and balanced. I
also like some of the bats ofguys gave us. Drew Crohn's been working
on something in the cages and hereally executed it perfectly on his swing.
He didn't have anything to show forit, but had a really nice line
drive and you know, got thehead out. Corey Morton the same thing,

(02:52):
get the head out one on hisdouble. I feel like Spur's kind
of coming around. He's on timemore often than not now. And you
know Jake obviously, you know, moving him into one hole, he has
struggled with runners in scoring position. We're guaranteed that there's gonna be nobody on
for at least one at bat agame, and hopefully he can get comfortable.
He's gonna have to drive in runsif we're going to accomplish our goals.

(03:14):
But I think there have been somesome positives over the last yeah,
last week plus, we've we've beenswinging the bats a little bit better.
And Matt Malcolm your catcher. Threefor four today, it comes in one
ninety six. You know, whenyou're below two hundred, you're a catcher.
Yeah, you've been through it.You're saying yourself, if he just
gives me a little start, maybeI can get three hits and get it
going. But he had three knockstoday. We're looking for another guy and

(03:35):
he has pop so he is adangerous guy, and he has an emotional
you know, he's got a greatticker, and we like his energy in
the game. I'm really glad thatwe were talking about taking him out and
letting Hide get that last at batthat Malcolm mon up having. He was
seeing a right handed slider guy andwe wanted him hit a slider. So
it couldn't have worked out better. We we needed to take a time out

(03:59):
to give all time because we hadtwo quick outs in that inning and we
needed Alejandro to get a little bitof work in the pen before he came
in. So I told him,I said, take the first pitch,
not the first strike, Take thefirst pitch, give him a little bit
more time, and then you're freeto go. And I need to hit
a slider here. He got onethat was up a little bit, but
it was perfect. He hit thecrap out of it to left field,
and he needed that because he's reallystruggled against radies. He's been excellent against

(04:23):
lefties, but I was glad tosee that he stayed on the slider and
hit the heck out of it.Yeah, back to matters to Lanta for
a quick thing. Three runs aboutit. End Today he came in hitting
two forty. But he could bea guy that might be a catalyst.
Man. He that first home runwas just a bomb to right field.
Yeah, and I always worry whenhe pulls a home run because he sometimes
comes off pitches. He did thatin his last at bat. But yesterday

(04:46):
he stayed on some beautiful He wentin the left center gap twice yesterday had
really good swings. So I thinkhe's turned a corner. He was,
and I've said this several times nowin the fall and in the preseason,
he was our best hitter. Heand Tamara. We're kind of duking it
out for who was our best Matt. Nobody on our staff wanted to face
Maddix Lena in inner squads or inthe preseason live session. So it's I

(05:12):
feel like he's turned the corner. He's a guy probably needs a little bit,
just more reps and to be outthere all the time. Now we
can play him because he's he's youknow, he's hitting above the Mendos the
line, and yeah, it looksand we need him. We need him,
So you know, having him downin the order I think has helped
we Maybe we were expecting too muchof him. He should he should be

(05:32):
a middle the order guy. Butyou know, if he's comfortable there,
we can live with him to beingdown there as long as other guys are
performing. Yeah. Final note,TC Simmons gets in this ball game.
He's you know, been in andout, hadn't played a high cup a
lot. But two hits, extrabase hits. Uh. Two good plays
in the field too. I meanit was good to see because we know
what kind of guy he has beenas a Yukon baseball player. A couple

(05:54):
of ribbies, a couple of nicedefensive plays. It was good to see
the real TC Simmons a guy.Yeah it was. He hit one off
both lines. I think it's toughto do, I think, or at
least the right field. One landedright on the line, and then he
hits one of the left. Kindof an excuse me one, But who
cares? Is he? He deservessome luck and he got it a little
bit. He made two you saidit. I mean we said it in
the huddle too in the post game. Two great catches, you know,

(06:15):
not just good catches. Him andJenkins just squared one up and he turned
one way and then turned back theother way made it look easy. And
then another rocket, you know, off a turner I think late and just
you know, he's he's a verygood outfielder, but he hasn't been out
there and that just goes to showyou he's got a lot of pride and
he works really hard, gets hisreps in pre game and makes the most
of them, and he's like apro. He's a veteran, and it

(06:38):
was it was really good to see. I'd like to see a smile on
his face. He had our firsttriple the year. We haven't had a
triple. We in thirty thirty gametoday and yeah, we hadn't had a
triple all yet. It's amazing. It's crazy, he's crazy. He got
all right. So Saint John's thisweekend, you got two out of three
against Xavier. I don't want tobuild up the pressure too much, but
you gotta win a series. Yougot to keep winning them, right and
in the conference especially, Yeah, the conference is a lot better. You

(07:00):
know, Saint John's came out ofthe gates. They went to Gainesville and
went on opening night, and youknow they've been playing good baseball. You
know, they they took care ofbusinesses past weekend with a with a big
East opening weekend sweep so on thatwas on the road, on the road
again. They're not gonna be intimidated. You know, they're not the same
Saint John's they were last year, the year before. This is a better

(07:21):
This is a good baseball team. And I know our guys are not going
to underestimate him anytime. Saint John's. It's interesting we had Maine and Saint
John's together. It's like the rivalriesfrom from the eighties. You know,
uh this week but uh, youknow, always looking forward to to a
good battle with those guys. Andbut they're they are definitely better. So
we got to be on our gameand gotta get a good start from gave

(07:43):
Van m and Friday night's been abugaboo for us. We got to you
know, hopefully, I think it'stwo dollars Miller Light night, so hopefully
the Husky faith will come out anddroves and make it a little bit more
difficult for the Red Storm. Itworks for the basketball team, they went
the two dollars night, right,Yeah, yeah, they didn't need much
help. We could leave you wecould use a little boost, but no,
it's it's uh, we do feellike we're in a better place.

(08:05):
We just got to keep the momentumin our dugout and it's nice to be
home finally sleeping in our own bedsfor a while. We got some terrible
news this morning with our team Impact, our teammate Impact Guy, teammate AJ
Salisbury passing away, and and althoughwe knew it was coming, uh,
you know, I think it inspiredthe guys. Frankly, they didn't take

(08:26):
one pitch off today because they knowthe DAJ would have loved to have been
here to watch us. And heloved playing the game. I loved playing
the game. And he was sickfor so long and suffering and and thank
the Good Lord, he's safe athome now. But we're gonna be there
to support the family and whatever theyneed moving forward. But I was really
proud of the way that we competedand and when we're up that big,

(08:48):
there wasn't a guy that gave upon one pitch. You know, he
played. I asked him to,said, baseball is a lot like you
know, little boys want to bebig boys, big boys want to be
little boys. You know, That'swhy I love having bat boys in the
dugout And aj want to be abig boy in the worst way and ask
the guys just hey, let's playwith the energy of little boys and play
with the toughness of big boys today. And you know, I think they

(09:09):
they gave him a fitting tribute, and we're going to make sure that the
family gets the game ball. Yeah, eleven year old kid man deserve more,
a bigger life, a longer life. But you wonder, you know,
I always say everything happens for areason. This this kind of thing
makes you second guess that a littlebit. Yeah, no doubt. All
right, coach, we appreciate it, Good luck this weekend. We'll be
around. Appreciate it. Saint John'sand Yukon getting after it this weekend here

(09:31):
at Elliott Ballpark.
