Speaker 1 (00:00):
How everyone, and welcome to another edition of the Yukon
Women's Basketball Coaches Show, our last recorded show of the season,
as starting on January sixth, will be back at Cafe
Aura with live programming and Gino. First of all, thanks
for doing this once again. Coming off and went over
to Paul on Sunday. Example where season highs and a
lot of departments equal to season high with thirty assists,

(00:22):
second highest total of steels twenty three, but then points
off turnovers, points in the paint, second chance points, bench
points all season the highs and boy, you couldn't have
probably asked for a better script where everyone who played
it was at least eight and a half minutes or
more so, not all the time you want this, but

(00:42):
in a game like this, maybe the perfect scenario where
everybody was able to get involved.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Yeah, it's always a two pronged thing, right, I mean,
we get at the Paul team, that's kind of the fed.
I mean it's not the same ball team that were
you know, obviously used to seeing different coaching staff. And

(01:10):
then you know, you couple that with how well how
well we came out, how well we played. Everyone Everyone
on the same page. Everyone contributing. It's like a perfect storm,
you know, and it just kind of feeds off each other.

(01:33):
But it was a great, great day for everyone who played.
And I, like you said, I don't know that you
could do that every night, you know, only play you know,
your starter sixteen seventeen minutes. But for one day, you know,
it looked really really good, Kay.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
K Arnold, I mean started this with CD.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
I think I mentioned this to Ash too AshEL and
change you to join us later in the show. I mean,
KK Arnold was three for three, three rebounds, but the
two numbers that stand out seven assists, no turnovers.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
I mean that's.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
KK to a t. And how well she has grown
into this different role that she has this season.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yeah, you're right. I think we're all really proud of
KK and how much she's had to adapt to. No,
she's been here three years now and she's had to
fill three different roles as as a guard here at Yukon.

(02:42):
So I'm I'm really pleased with where she is. She's
making better decisions all the time, she's seeing more of
what's out there, she's letting it kind of developed and

(03:02):
not forcing something to be there that's not there. Uh,
she's had more confidence shooting in the ball this year,
So I think all in all, you know, I think
it's been a It's been a great start and a
big step in Kk's development this year.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Is it simplistic to say the game has slowed down
for her?

Speaker 2 (03:27):
You know, that's the way everyone describes it. She likes
to play fast, obviously, and there are times when I
think she plays too fast. She outruns her mind sometimes,
you know, Like so we get her to slow down
so you can see the big picture. And when she

(03:52):
is like that, when she is in complete control of
mind and body, I think it looks it looks pretty good,
you know, and made some great passes the other day.
I hope its slowed down for you know. I think

(04:13):
that's a big transition every guard makes. They come to
you kind of how do you make the game slower?
And how do you make you know, the game where
you can pick and choose what option you want coming
down the floor. So so far, like really really, really good.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
How would you rate Kaylee Heckel's play since coming here?

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Obviously? Sunday from a statistical standpoint.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Equal to career high with sixteen, led the team with
six rebounds and five assists in the game.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
But where have you seen her game grow since she
got here?

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Well, she she started off like gagbusters. You know, that
Louisville game. It's a great game for her, you know,
first time out, you got uniform, and I think the
Farta Stay game, you know, it's also very good. And

(05:12):
then I think there was like a little bit of
a uh, maybe a slip. You know, she wasn't shooting
the ball. Well, I think she let that affect her,
let it affect her overall game and even to the

(05:32):
point the other day Sunday when I asked her when
she came out of the game, I said, were you
in the game? And her first her first rotation in
the first half, I said, were you in the game?
She said, huh, I said, because it didn't look like

(05:54):
you were a factor in the game. If anybody was watching,
they would have never known you were in the game.
You need to be a factor. You need to be
a present every possession, defensively or offensively, you know, rebounding, transition,
you know, getting in, passing, laying things that make players

(06:15):
good players. And it's funny, I thought the second half,
I think she probably scored all sixteen of her points
in the second half. Maybe maybe I don't know, but
I think when she's active and she's trying to disrupt
and she's on the attacking mode on offense, I mean,

(06:38):
I mean it's really fun to watch. I enjoy watching
her play.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Yeah, but she's like that.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Yeah, she had eight at halftime, maybe eight in the
second quarter, and then.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
She took off. Maybe we'll see. All right, we'll come
back with more with Gino.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
It is the Ukon of Women's Basketball Coaches show on Learfield.
