The football Huskies will be hosting theBulls of USF Homecoming Day Saturday. This
is coming October twenty first three thirtygame tickets available for the game Senior Day
against Sacred Heart also available at Yukontickets dot com. Yukon Huskies Football Football
Tailgating and fun Back with Jim Moore. A quick question on schedule. Coach
Duke now signed on for I thinkfour times in the next six seven years.

(00:23):
So you got talking about next year, a couple of acc trips to
Duke and Wake Forest. You gotto go to Maryland, Big Zen,
you got to go to UAB.You get an army at home too.
So as you look at these schedules, obviously not in a conference right this
moment, but how important is itto have name opponents on your schedule that
you got to face and beat.It used to be in my opinion more

(00:49):
you mean to like to recruiting,Yeah, recruiting or your whole effort and
what you're trying to do. I'lltell you what's more important right now is
money. It's just a fact ofthe life that we're in, that the
time we're in. That if youthe kids that that you're recruiting now is
they don't necessarily care as much aboutwho you're playing, they don't necessarily care

(01:12):
as much about facilities. They docare about conference and that's a real deterrent
to us right now. Not beingin a conference is absolutely killing us.
But more than anything, it's nothaving nil money. And so if we're
going to go play those teams andexpect to compete with them, then we
have to be able to track athletesthat are going to be able to compete

(01:32):
with them, and in order todo that, we're gonna need nil money.
And if we don't have nil money, then it's going to be there's
gonna be some really really tough toughdays. You know the way it's working
around the country, And I don'tknow that in particulars. You're obviously more
privy to all that stuff, butit just sounds like guys are handing out
dollars to get guys to come tothe school, almost like a professional contract.

(01:56):
I mean, is that really happeningas much as we all conjecture it
is, yes, And it's noteven like a professional it's if it was
a professional contract, it would probablybe better because it be more regulated.
It's I don't know if I wantto say it's unfortunate, it's just a
matter of fact that if you wantto compete, if you want to if
you want to track players that cango beat the teams that you just mentioned

(02:20):
on our schedule, then you haveto pay them, and you have to
pay them an I own money, and you have to increase their cost of
attendance, and you have to givethem better housing, and you have to
give them opportunity to earn money. And unfortunately, right now, we don't
do much of that, and I'mfearful for this program if that doesn't happen,
because those teams that were you know, tasked with trying to beat have

(02:45):
those things and they can go attractplayers with money. We have great facilities,
you know, we have a lotof people around here that care,
but without the money to go getplayers. I hate I hate them saying
that because it's just you know,it's a new concept, but it's a
true concept as well. And Ihope people realize that that if you want

(03:07):
to win, you have to payfootball players to come to your university,
and that is the bottom line. And it's like that in basketball, you
know, I mean, you knowthat you cover our basketball team. You
know that recruiting is not just aboutopportunity to play or playing for particular coach

(03:29):
or playing against a particular opponent. These kids today, they want money.
You know, they feel they deservethe money, and quite frankly, with
the money that's being generated, theydo deserve some of it in my opinion.
So yeah, I'm I mean,I look at those those schedules in
the future and I realize that ifwe don't get some money pouring into this
program, that some dark days areahead. The you know example of that,

(03:52):
and this goes back to the realignmentthing that's going on around the country.
SMU doesn't take any rights fee togo to the ACC and then turns
around and raises one hundred million fromlike four people to support the program moving
up to a different conference level. So I mean, we're talking about certain

(04:13):
parts of the country where huge amountsof capital are pouring in. So programs
like SMU, which is not asbig time as it used to be at
one point, but obviously there's financialsupport in the state of Texas. It's
it's fact, like I said,if you want to win, you got
to have financial support. Emotional support'sgreat passion. Fans are great. But

(04:33):
you can ask any coach in arevenue sport nowadays what they need most,
and it's money. And I don'twant to be DeBie Downer here, but
there are realities that people that wantto see this program be successful have to
face. And I mean I wantedto be successful as much or more than

(04:54):
anybody, because it's my livelihood. It's not just something, you know,
it's not a hobby, it's notan interest. But I also know without
a doubt that if we don't getfinancial support that you know, there's at
the end of this year, there'sonly three independents left in the whole country,
and that's Yukon UMass and Notre Dame, right, and Notre Dame's not

(05:15):
I mean that they're different, right, But Armies going to a conference.
So yeah, it's hey, man, it's there's some certain you know,
I think, I guess we gotthis, you know, I guess we
got to decide what we want tobe, you know, and then people
have to make it happen. We'regoing to talk to us up a little
bit here, but first I wantto ask you about Chase Lund. Here's

(05:38):
a guy junior offensive lineman played aton of games last year, same thing
this year. I've noticed him andyour offensive line. Going back to that
for a minute, those guys kindof stand in the middle of your team
a lot. I've noticed that, and I say to myself, is that
a typical thing? Because you've donethis for one hundred years? So through
offensive linemen get in front of peoplelot like your guys do. I think

(06:00):
it's pretty cool. It's a uniquegroup. I found in my dealings is
that all offensive line groups are reallytight knit and kind of unique in their
own way. They're usually very intelligent, you know, they have to function
as a group in order if youhave success, and so they're very tight
knit these guys. However, herethere's a level of maturity and discipline and

(06:25):
toughness and all the good things thatyou're looking for. That's, in my
experience, pretty unique and it's awesome, you know, and Chase exemplifies that.
They all do it. They allexemplify it. But they just care,
you know, and our team respectsthem. You know, they're not
they call themselves mushrooms, you know, just over in the corner. You

(06:48):
know, don't renotice them. Buton our team, on our team.
You know, they're arguably the mostrespected group, and not just as players
but as men. And a lotof that, you know, has to
do with Gordy in the way thathe's molded that molded them, but most
of it has to do with theircharacter and the type of young men that
they were raised to be and thecommitment they've made. And it's there.

(07:12):
I'm gonna tell you what it's.It's you know, you use the word
inspiring. It is inspiring to bearound them. It's fun. It makes
you, you know, with allthose things that he's talked about with the
nil and the dark days and stuff. You do this stuff because you get
to be around guys like Chasing Luntand Christian and I can go down the
line with that offensive line and Ican name every single one of them,
whether they're playing or not and say, yeah, I like being around that

(07:32):
guy. That guy makes me wantto come to work every day. That
guy inspires me to do a greatjob. That kind of inspires me to
look for ways to win and andlook under every rock and around every corner.
And that's what's awesome about our offensiveline. It really our whole team.
But they they as you said, they exemplify it. Yeah, I'm
with you. I love that group, no question. All right back in
the moment, we're going to talkabout USP. The Bulls are in town

(07:56):
on Saturday. This is the YukonFootball Coaches Show on lear Field.
