Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to Brispocus Barbecue. It's the Yukonackey Coaches Show.
Our next one will be in a couple of weeks.
I think it's before the BU series, towards the end
of the month. Bob Joyce, Mike Kavanaugh, Adam Jerdino with you.
Coming up. Thomas Cineo and Ryan Tattle will be our
player interviews coming up, starting with Tom in the next segment.
A lot of new faces. But let's start defensively, because

(00:21):
obviously Thomas Cineo is now the old man in the defense.
But what you got out of your freshman duo of
Janverrea and Scott playing together late in the season, especially
on the man advantage, was just so huge for the
help of this team. Now John Spetts has gone, obviously
you've brought in a couple of young guys to help
on the defensive side. But what's that whole group look

(00:42):
like going into the season opener?

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Yeah, we have two new defensemen, you know, well, in
some ways three because Kevin Fitzgerald didn't last year, but
he was around and it's not like he's new to
the program. He understands how we play and what we
want to do. So I don't really consider him, you know,

(01:05):
a rookie so to speak.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
And by all accounts it sounds like he worked his
tail off too.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
He did. He's a lot of credit to Ed Blair
and our training staff too to get him back. He
and then we have Brendan Dunfie and Anthony Elaine Samaki,
two newer players. And you know, Brendan's a big kid.
He's six', five can, skate he's, long kind of in
the mold Of. Viking and Then anthony is he's a

(01:34):
good sized kid, Too he's probably six,' two, effortless skater,
you Know From. Montreal quebec both both of them are going,
to be, you know counting on them to play minutes
for us this year and be a big part of our.
Defensive corps wait.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
A, minute adam there, you GO am, I, on yeah
you aren't all right perfect in terms.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Of finding these different pieces. THAT fit, i think, you
know Seeing A brendan dunfie and seeing that he's, six'
five what else in his skill set jumps out at
you besides just the obvious of oh big, guy back
there who you know we want him to? Block a
shot he? Takes, up space yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
He's certainly a. Great penalty killer he makes a really,
good first, pass defends, well you Know. Much, like viking
yeah Very. Similar to viking so where you know you're
always trying to you Don't want six kaijian variers and
you Don't want six viking right type players like you

(02:36):
got to, have a mix and that's what we try
to do when we build.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Our defensive core what will People See from kevin fitzgerald
on the ice when he's a.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Really good skater he, Defends extremely well he's an. Excellent
penalty killer he can jump into the playoffensively when, he
has to but he makes his living defending and he's
excellent feet and he.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Defends very well, and from defense do you think backbone?
Between the Pipes And so, tyler muslik returns But You've
got Ryan Sanborn. And cam hendrickson what are the two
new faces coming in to kind Of work with tyler
who's a senior and coming up a really good.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Year, Last year yeah well we have a newer Goaltending
Coach and alex westland who had a great career and
his own right and He's coming from detroit where He
Was the red. Wings goalie coach. For three years so
he brings a wealth of experience and A pedigree that
i think is really advantageous for our players because he

(03:43):
has been in pro hockey for eight years and he
understands what it takes to. Be SUCCESSFUL there so i like.
Having him around but he's been very good. With our goaltenders,
And You know cam hendrickson is a. Highly recruited goaltender
he's a Candidate For the world junior. Team this year
he competes, and you know really. Impressed with him, But,

(04:05):
you know tyler it's nice having A goaltender Like tyler
muslik back who had a very STRONG year for, us
last year and having that senior presence and someone who
knows the league as well. As he does it's comforting
to know we have him back there before we.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Go to break He Gave a nick perusy a little
bit of a. Title, change today.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Yeah well it's actually happened. Over the summer we just.
Announced it today, But you know i'm very fortunately he didn't.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Tell me, That come on i'm.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Very fortunate to have the assistant, coaches we do and
it WAS something that i. Thought he's deserved he's been
in college Hockey. Now for nick nick's been coaching for
almost over ten years and he's been in. COLLEGE hockey
now i think this is his fifty year. In college
hockey so, he's you know acclimated himself very well to

(04:55):
our program and, between You know having tyler and he
on my Staff, along With alex and alex is. New
to it but the, TWO of them i think are work,
Extremely well Together, tyler and nick and they do a
lot of our game planning and they do a lot.
OF our video i just try to sit and guide

(05:19):
the ship and let them row it. A little bit
but they really really fortunate to have. Assistance Like, that
all right we will.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Take a break our player interviews, are coming up and
Then We'll preview colorado college in our last segment With
coach Cav Thomasineo. And ryan taddle coming your way Shortly

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
