Speaker 1 (00:00):
Back on the Yukon Hockey Coaches Show. We're just have
a game. We're solving the world's problem. Yes, we're solving
the world's problems. Yeah for sure.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
I don't forget.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
We've got a big basketball game on campus Wednesday, men
take on Arizona. Mike and wait'll have that six thirty
on the radio. Ice Bus is in New Hampshire Friday, Durham,
seven o'clock.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Did I see six thirty? Saturday night? Christ all right,
and both those games are on ESPN.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Plus we have basketball and football responsibilities later in the week.
Women play Friday, football Saturday. They all conflicts. So Adam
will be in Boca. He gets he gets some warm,
go to warm.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
No pregame radio interviews.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
No, no, no, no radio till Merrimack just belay. Yeah,
it doesn't have to put up with us.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
I just have to do capies. TV.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah exactly, TV stuff. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Let's see here, We've got two guy young men coming
up here, Kayden Shahan and obviously joeybile Down.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
He speaks for himself.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Uh you, I mean We've I discussed this with Murtag.
Mike Burtag and the pregame show. The jump that he's
made so many guys, whether you've had him at you
see or hear and a Joey Muldowney's exhibit a of
that too. The jump from freshman to sophomore year sometimes,
unless unless you're a super superstar, you know, sometimes you
don't get that opportunity. But Mike has certainly made the

(01:12):
most of his. Kayden Shahan has just simply grown along
playing with guys like Ethan and witcamb anything, Guarduela now
playing with some other people. But he's he's been a
nice jump here in year two, it would seem.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Oh yeah, I mean, well he was a good player
as a freshman.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Yeah, they had a good line last year. That was
a good combination.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
One of the things I was talking about with our
team today is I think what makes us a very
dangerous team is that the balance we have.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
It's like, you can look at our lineup.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
I'm looking at your sheet right now, Bob, Like, okay,
which one is our fourth line?

Speaker 3 (01:46):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
THEO Yeah this is Friday, Yeah, Friday.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
It's such a.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
I was telling our team today and I was looking
at it. Our top orror has eight points.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
If you look at to say, like give a four
point difference, we have fifteen players within four points of
the top scorer.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
You're not going to find that anywhere else.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
Like I started looking, you know, Northeastern I think had
seven or you and h might have seven. Northeastern had six,
like the teams that we've played Ohio State might have
had five. The balance that we have on our team
is I think what makes us, which has made us
a really hard team to play against, because I don't

(02:43):
even really care about matchups, line matchups, very very rarely
do I care about a line matchup because I have
faith and trust in every single one of them that
they can play against anybody.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
The line with Shahan, Cardula and Whitcomb last year it
was the you know, the freshman line. This year, we've
seen some mixing and matching. So, you know, you bring
back an all freshman line that grew together into sophomores.
So what does go into mixing and matching and kind
of seeing, okay, maybe this piece could work a little

(03:15):
differently over here and just experimenting with that.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
Yeah, we had different lines. On Saturday night. We put
Joey back with Jake and Witcomb. I thought they were
playing pretty well, when Joey was in the lineup and
we had Carlin de Zandy with Tattle and Shahan and
they got a big goal for us. You know that
was it was an unbelievable back check by the Zandy

(03:39):
which causes a turnover and Tattle makes a high end
backhand play and Shaehan one time sit in the back
of the net.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
It was a.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
Really, really nice goal. Gardula chipped in with another goal,
so you know he was playing with Murtag and Frasier.
Joey gets the game winner. I think we got do
we get goals from every line?

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (04:02):
Percival score too, so we got goals from every line
on Saturday night.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
That's pretty good problem to have. The more I watch
alexand Blay play, the more I like him. He made
a really nice play to help get the first goal.
That was Gardula opening the score Friday night. I thought
he made a couple of nice plays there, and he's
starting to.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Use the body.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
I think Blazer is doing a great job. We knew
how skilled he was, I didn't know how tough he is.
I didn't realize how physical he can play. And he's
not afraid to stick his nose in there, and you know,
finished checks really excited about him. I think Carlin's playing
really well as a new player in that lineup, and

(04:51):
we're getting great. You know, both Anthony Elaine Samaki and
Brendan Dunfie are in big minutes for us right now.

Speaker 5 (05:02):
When he goes through the recruiting process, and it's okay, yeah,
you didn't know that Alexandlei was going to be this
type of player. How many times did you see him
play in person over his recruiting process before he arrived
to you?

Speaker 3 (05:15):
I didn't see him once.

Speaker 5 (05:16):
Okay, well there you go.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
It was a late ad and normally that's not the case.
I see most of our players play. But Nick went
up and sarmed PERUSI saw him, and he says.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
We have to get this kid. He's really really good.
I like him a lot.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
And when my assistants come back and they're that passionate
about a player, you know, I trust him. So he
was and he's been everything that advertised as Nick, you know,
that's how he portrayed him, and he's been really really good.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Mike, it's got to be a luxury for you to
have not one big mobile defenceman, but two, Vic, It's
been really good Brennan. As you mentioned, Brennan's been fun
to watch.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
He was one of our best defenseman Friday night. Brendan,
he's growing, and Tyler Helton does an incredible job with
our defenseman. And just looking where vikings come in a
year's time, you know, and how dependent he's become. He's
going to have a lot of offers from NHL teams,
I know after the year. Brendan's doing a fabulous job.

(06:18):
And I also when I'm looking at our defenseman, you know,
Missinio's as solid as can be. But kai Jian Varia
right now is playing at a All American level. He's
playing at twenty six minutes a night, he plays every
special team, and his defense has been fantastic.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
And he skates like the win.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
Oh.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
He's just fearless and he's playing at a very very
high level right now.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
Why would someone who played on the developmental team like
he did have slipped through the cracks and not been drafted.

Speaker 4 (06:52):
Well, I think it's probably size based. You don't see
many defensemen his size unless they're you don't see many
size unless they're like just an elite top five skater
or at that size, You've got to bring a lot
of offense to the NHL because you're playing against a

(07:14):
lot of Ethan Whitcomb's every single night. At the NHL level,
you're playing against Matthew could Chuck, You're playing against Malcoln
who's big.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
You know, It's just it's a different level.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
Yep, he has retired head.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
All I can think of is marking on a I
don't know if it was a penalty shot or a breakaway,
no deep move about fifteen feet out.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
He just whind fires and beat the guy. And I
was like, Okay, Yeah, they're special. That's why they play
in the NHL. Yeah, all right, we're gonna let cav
take a little break.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
We will hear from Kayden Shahan and Joey Muldowney coming
up next. Boy, Cav went, he went like that, just like, yeah,
he's hungry, just like a Kai Jan Veria dash up
the ice.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
He went that fast.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
