Back with Gino Oriama on the Women's Basketball Coaches Show,
Huskies and USC this weekend from Los Angeles and then
Marquette next Wednesday, before taking on the Iowahaw guys next
Saturday at the Barclays Center in the Champions Classic. Let's
talk a little bit about USC here a bit. Obviously
no Juju Watkins, and this will be the fourth time
in what a year and a half calendar wise, I

think that Yukon and USC have played. Still a very
formidable team. They seem pretty young though, but they have
an outstanding freshman in Jazzy Davidson that's put up some
good numbers along with Kennedy Smith. And this is going
to be a fun test out at the Galen Center.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Yeah, yeah, I think so. And you know, Dave, they've
had they've had a good, good schedule. Now they've they've
played Notre Dame and that game went right down to
the y I had Notre Dame that they could have won. Uh,

I'm gonna say, They've played n C State, They've played
South Carolina, so they've had a really good They've had
a really good schedule and yeah, they're young. You know,
Jazzy has come in as a freshman and uh kind
of taken on a little bit of that joo Ji

Watkins go where she does a little bit of everything.
H And you know, they're they're replacing a lot of
players for sure, but I think they have a lot
of young talent. Ah Glyndon Jones from U C l A.
The transfer in. You know, So I think it's going

to be a really really really good test for US
ah at their place, the way they play, you know,
they want to play fast and they you know, so
do we. So I think it's gonna be Hey, listen,
every game we play with them has been a great game. Yeah,
so I wouldn't expect this to be any different.

How is the Dune kid from Georgia Tech fit in?
He's put up some pretty good numbers, it seems.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Yeah. Yeah, I think that's a that's another example of
you know, there's a need to fill and uh, you
come in and and you figure it out early on.
So I think that that influx of new players has

helped to you know, kind of less than this thing
of not having too to Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Peth Burns, of course, has been around a while working
on Lindsay Gottlieb Will net Crocketts on the staff. I
guess will net got into the Southern California Basketball Hall
of Fame this past week, so I guess technically you
have another Hall of Famer. I mean, why I remember
will Netts, like especially tournament time. As Randy Levigne used
to say, She's come out of hibernation just when you
need her in the postseason.

Oh yeah, yeah, it's so so amazing, you know, follow
her career, such a dominant player, and in Southern cal uh,
Southern California as a region, such a you know, uh,

a tough kid, h fantastic rebounder. And you're right, I
think being compared to a bear is perfect for her
because you know, she's big, she moves well, and when

they come out of their cave and they're hungry, like,
but she came out of march. See something that see
something in the watch. That's for sure. Yeah, and a
great human being for sure.

I mean I recall was that the Texas game, the
final four and oh three in Atlanta. Without her, you
probably don't win that game in rally and beat the Longhorns.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Absolutely absolutely, Uh. She had a loose ball saved diving
out of bounds that one of the great plays at
basketball at Yukon Basketball.

You know Ramba with us here on the Women's Basketball
Coaches Show. Uh, you've got Marquette and Iyaware coming up.
I know the focuses on USC, and I'm focused also
on exams this week. How I guess it's more than
an assistant coach thing depending on who has the scout.
But how far out do you guys start worrying about
an opponent down the road as far as getting ready

for games go. I mean I would imagine different because
of who's got the scout, right.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Yeah, yeah, we're always about to you ahead, you know.
So you know, Morgan's been working on USC now for
at least two weeks and uh and uh, I'm not

(05:18):
sure who's got marquead uh, but whoever does, they've been
working on him. It might be uh, let's see Jamel.
Jamel had the ball, CD had go on before that

(05:40):
mm hm, and Morgan has so I guess that would
be Tanya as USC. Okay, So that's you know, and
and c D would be working on Iowa for uh
for the last for that last week and then all
of next week. So we try to stay three ahead.

You know, those three, those three rotate and uh, you know,
we don't really get heavy, heavy into the scout of
report until two days before the game.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Right, right, you don't want to give the kids so
much information. They're over saturated with her, right, and.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
We want to focus on getting better. Right now, Let's
let's work on what we need to work on. Uh,
you know, so we have practice tomorrow, and tomorrow and
Friday will be you know, let's go down and get
ready for usc YEP
