Speaker 1 (00:00):
Back with Dan Hurley. The Yukon men's basketball coaches show
up next Marquette Sunday, two o'clock at Gamble. They're one
of the three teams DAN in the Big East right
now without a win in conference and a very unusual
year right now for the Golden Eagles. I mean, the
last three years, Shaka Smart won seventy nine games there.
That's more than anybody's ever won in three years at Marquettes.

(00:21):
So what's your thought on facing a team that's struggling
coming into your place.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
I mean, I got obviously tremendous respect for Shaka is
one of the best coaches in our sport. And you know,
just the you know, the Marquette program, the tradition, the
you know, the tradition, the recent success of the history there.
You know, couldn't have more respect for what they do there.
It's you know, college basketball, in college athletics. This is

(00:50):
a very violatile time in this era of college basketball,
in particular college football. You know that there's the the
with volatile things are relative to year to year. I
think you're, you know, gonna see a lot of this
with a lot of programs where there's just so much

(01:11):
going on relative to how how your team gets put together.
I have a lot of respect for how they do it.
They are they they you put on the film and
you watch them. You know, they they play hard, they defend,
they do all the things that that shotas teams have
always done. They just uh, you know, haven't made as
much shots. Uh, you know, just haven't been quite as good,

(01:34):
you know, offensively, but they're still hard to play against.
Their physical they pressure you. You know, they're incredibly well prepared,
and uh, they're just going through, uh, you know, a
tough stretch that you know, we we obviously don't want
to see that stretch end until they leave town.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Yeah, that's for sure. Uh, there's gonna be some familiar
faces on that market team. The four guys from last year.
They did lose three starters. Chase raw Back senior guard,
really solid player. But they did lose z Aid Lowry.
He left the team last week. He won't be with
them for the rest of the season. The one guy
I want to ask about though, Nigel James. He's a
freshman Long Island Lutheran Huntington, New York. He's playing twenty

(02:14):
six minutes a game for Shatka, not a big guy,
but he seems to be an impactful backcourt man.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yeah. I mean with him and Sean Jones, they got two,
you know, dynamic guards off the dribble Chase Ross, who's
you know, one of the top scorers in the league.
And you know, they played a really brutal schedule. I mean,
you go and play at Wisconsin and then that Purdue
and now you find yourself in league play and you
you know, you lose those two, you know, I mean,

(02:41):
their scheduling was really really tough. But again, they've got guys,
you know, like Chase Ross and and Sean Jones and
Ben Gold and guys that have won a lot of
games there with a lot of pride and uh, you know,
so we'll be prepared for their best.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
All right, coach, we appreciate it. We'll see you on
the weekend, thanks so much. Seth Greenberg will be along.
We'll talk to him about Huskies in the NBA and
there's a bunch of them, a lot to talk about there.
