Speaker 1 (00:00):
Last segment with Gino Oriama. As we're here on the
Women's Basketball Coaches Show, and we are in the well
we used to be the conference room. It's a smaller
conference room. What's upon a time we did this show
live from here, many many moons ago here. But last
night your kids got to experience something that some of
them had never experienced before an NBA game, as they
went to the garden to see the next play. And
I guess Paige hooked them up pretty good.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yeah, she has so many great opportunities come her way,
and she's so good about sharing those opportunities and experiences
that she's fortunate enough to have. You know, apparently I
(00:42):
saw the right up. It was the worst offensive game
that the Knicks have played, I think this year. So
I'm not I'm not sure they're anxious to have that
group back. But how many chances do you get to
go to the garden to watch the next game playing
NBA and all the hooplah and everything that goes with
(01:03):
it and all the celebrities that are there, blah blah blah,
and so page does a lot for for our basketball
team on the court and off the court, And last
night was just another example of that.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
All right, let's go on the injury front here, Aubury
coming along.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Okay, yeah, yeah, she does. She does a little bit
more every day. You know, her timetable is again up
to her when she feels it. There's glimpses, you know,
of the old Aubrey. It's not enough of them right now,
but hopefully little by little, and that'll be another adjustment
(01:43):
we'll have to make, you know. So that's kind of
one that I'm looking forward to as well.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Yeah, it'll be nice to have a full compliment. And
then I've been kind of reluctant to ask about Caroline,
just knowing the situation that that she's going through, but
you brought somebody brought her up in the in the
media session, and you mentioned that she has been one
heck of a teammates during this whole this whole tenure
for her, particularly this season, just getting back with her teammates,
(02:10):
being there dealing with everything that she's gone through, and
it just sounds like she has been done a phenomenal
job for your for your team. She has.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
I've been, you know, unbelievably impressed by her one her
work ethic to try to get herself back to her
just just commitment to her teammates and being a part
of it and pulling them aside one at a time,
(02:40):
or gathering them up, the advice, the encouragement. Her voice
is the one voice you hear in our gym constantly, NonStop,
and for someone who's not playing, that's especially gratifying to see.
(03:01):
That makes her a unique individual, and it sets a
tone and it makes our other players start to understand,
you know, this is what I'm supposed to be like,
this is the way it's supposed to be. So I
couldn't be happier for And I hope it works out,
you know, cross my fingers, and because I don't think
(03:21):
anybody deserves it more than.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
She does now, because you get to witness this every day.
And let's say things don't work out where she doesn't
play again, could you see her coaching down the road
with what she's been doing.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
You know, kids are weird, you know, you don't know,
you don't know. It's certainly something that staying in the game,
I know is something that she's talked about a lot.
From a playing standpoint. You know, I'm going to play
someplace when I graduate from from college, if that's not
(03:57):
available to her, I think there'll be opportunities for her
to stay in the game in some way, shape or form,
And certainly I'm gonna I'm want to help her with that.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Ye xavior tomorrow night young team a very foreign They
got a lot of foreign players on the team, and
a lot of it's because of the portal and and
it just seems like that's a direction that a lot
of places are going to now even I mean, you've
got more international players in recent years.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Yeah. Yeah, the world's small, you know, you can you
can understand that a kid being in Connecticut and going, oh,
I love you've got women's basketball. Then you know, we
go to Cuahia and go, hey, what's your favorite? Oh man,
I've been following you u CON for forever and you're thinking, wow,
(04:45):
So the world has become so interconnected. Everybody knows everything,
everybody sees every clip, you know, And and I believe
that those players have a tremendous desire to come here
and play. They're they're there, their work ethic and their maturity,
(05:10):
how much they have to grow up while they're over there,
and how much they how much independence they have. It's
done like the culture here in this country, and then
to be able to say I want to go three thousand,
five thousand, whatever the case, it is away from home
and my mommy's not coming with me, you know. And
(05:31):
they're not going to come and help me fix up
my room, you know. Uh, And they're not going to
come up every weekend and make my you know, make
soup for me. You know. They they truly are independent,
and they really are mature, and I think they they
appreciate the opportunity so much, and I love coaching them.
(05:53):
I just think they're fantastic. And I was self spot
in my heart for immigrants.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Help the case in point right here, Gino. Thanks as always,
we'll do it again tomorrow night.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
I appreciate it, all right, Thanks Bob, all right.
