Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're worth it until the top of the hour, and
then of course for the folks here we've got an
after show with coach. She's having an animated conversation with
his sports information director and Lebonti. Gino's a big hockey fan.
By the way, we're back on the radio with Hockey Friday,
UMass Lowell Downtown six forty five on the radio.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
If you've not been to a Yukon men's.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Hockey game, or women's game for that matter, go We've
got four teams ranks. Let's see, women are top ranked,
men are fourth, women's hockey is fifth, and men's hockey
is eleventh in the country.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Great, great winter and stores Connecticut. Great to be a
Husky so where Megars go. Not great to be a
Boston College fan. Megers get out. They stink at everything.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Hockey.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
So so this year for them, I know, I mean.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
No, actually they're not.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
They're second, Yukon's first, and Hockey East the men's teams first,
and Hockey East by like a point over BC.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
No. I mean BC is such a great school and
they have such a great tradition and basketball, football, hockey.
I think they won the ACC and baseball two years ago.
I think they have a.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Great got a regular season or tournament, yeah yeah, one
of those two.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, they got great lacrosse program. It's just,
you know, the move to the ACC was probably, you know,
not a great one for them other than financially, because
you know, they've not had the level of success in

(01:32):
the ACC that they were having in the Big East
on a regular basis. And that's it. That's you know,
that's a chance you take, you know, and the whole
conference real alignment.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Thing, easy fudd. Let's discuss your young lady from Arlington.
She is about to pass Morgan Tuck and Laura Leishness
on the All Times scoring list. She's trying around thirteen
hundred points for her career thirty five steels no.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
For only playing thirty games. That's a hell of a
lot of points for only playing third.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
I mean the kids, the kid's been hurt. Yeah, I mean,
she's had the worst luck of anybody in Connecticut since
Shay Ralph in terms of how many things could happen
to you to cost you games. So it's remarkable that
here she is right now, you know, looking the way

(02:25):
she looks and playing the way she's playing. You would
never know that, you know, you know, Ashton Shade and
k k Arner have played a lot more games than
Asy fund.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
I believe you sure about that. I don't think maybe
not wrong, but I mean, I mean.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Let's see he's been here five years.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
All right, let's see here, Ashes played ninety three. Okay,
Kk's played ninety three because I missed the game.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
All right, let's go find thirty five. Wow.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
As he's played ninety one. Wow?

Speaker 3 (03:03):
How many they played?

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Those other two have played ninety three? A'si's played ninety one. Wow.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
I told you they played more games than than as well.
You remember, and Asy's been here five years. That's how
bad the bad luck that this game has had. Yeah,
and now you know you watch her and it's like,
you know, you would think like, well, nothing ever, you know,
nothing ever happened.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Then No, she's got guns.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
By the way, you know, I clearly Page has been
working out. I mean, she's got guns. Now who page
for Unrivaled. She's she's got some arc she's got some
strong arms. Now she had what you have twenty four
last night in the first Unrivaled game.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
You can't have twenty four. They don't go up to
twenty four? Do they how many? How many points did
they go up to as many as she had twenty?
Didn't they lose their first game?

Speaker 2 (03:52):
No? I think they won.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
They won, They're undefeated.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Yeah, it was their first game.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
Oh, their first Day've only played one.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Only one game, only one game?

Speaker 1 (03:58):
All right, back to easy though for a minute here.
She's really good what impresses me most. And she's always
been a good positional defender, keeping her player in front
of her. But now, obviously she's taken more chances since
the start of the NCAA tournament last year, she's gotten
a lot more aggressive defensively. And then, you know, having
talked to her, she said, well, I don't want to
you know, lose my player taking a chance and then

(04:19):
somebody having to bail me out. Well, now she's got
you know, she's taken those chances, and you can see
the payoff most of the time.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
You know what she's gotten really really really good at.
I don't know if you notice it. I mean, I
guess these people send me stuff. You know, Hey, did
you read this? I'm like, so, if you're probably on
the boneyard, you probably already coached this team to one
hundred and fifty wins in a row, So I get that.

(04:47):
But there's something that she does that's really incredible to
be able to do, which is so good defensively, is
when she's guarding her man, okay, and her you know,
she's guarding her man right here, and somebody's guarding their
man here, and they drive it into that gap between

(05:07):
her man and you know, the basket. She's been as
good as anybody we've had ever at getting her hands
in there and getting herself into the mix without necessarily
losing her man. Like that's how she got she got

(05:27):
the kid for a while, the one time in the
Ncity Tournament. Yeah, you know, you know, because you beat
your man, you're not thinking somebody's going to be there.
But for her, like, whenever there's an opportunity, she's got
her hands in there a lot. And you know, she's
gotten a lot of turnovers and gotten us a lot
of possessions. And that's something she would never ever do
as a freshman or a sophomore, that she would never

(05:49):
take that kind of risk of, you know, get in there.
Maybe you know. So, I think she's just a lot
very very very confident kid right now.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Yeah, and the number is shut.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
All right, We'll take another break and back with Gino
in a minute here on the Yukon Women's Basketball Coaches
Show here on Learfield
