Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're here to the top of the hour, and then
we got two basketball games tomorrow. Men are in Providence.
That'll be fun. Providence just beat Saint John's and then
Husky are Husky will host Saint John's. The women at
the People's Bank Arena or his Microspiina likes to call
it the Vault tomorrow nights. By the way, you're all
history bus right, you guys like fifty years ago today,

(00:22):
who likes Peter Frampton? Frampton Comes Alive came out fifty
years ago today? Were you a Frampton guy?

Speaker 2 (00:29):
No?

Speaker 3 (00:29):
No, okay, I mean you know, no, fifty years ago
I was. I was in a bar mating whether to
go see Bruce Springsteen for two dollars and I'm like,
who's he? So okay, Yeah, I'm more of a Springsteen
fan than anything else, that's true. Yeah, I was working

(00:49):
out today. Born to Run came on, and that was
nineteen seventy three, seventy three, seventy four, okay, I mean
you think about it.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
And some of these guys, even in Rolling Stones, I mean,
I don't know how they how do they do it?

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Like in their eighties? These guys got to be eighty.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Right, I mean stair aged, you know, I don't know
what it is, or they got so much whatever stuff
in their system that they can't possibly die their their
bodies already formaldehyde. I mean they got right, what do
they got in their system? No germs can live in
their systems. They anything that tries to get in there,

(01:29):
you die.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
How do they do it? It's it's remarkable, it really
is it really, really really is. I get a kick
out of those guys.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Hey, I want to ask you about one of your players,
freshmen from Ireland, Gannymo Mamel. What do you like about her?

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Every everything, everything, She's an adult. It's great to have
her and Blanca are you know, two kids that are
more adult like than their age. And I think that
might have a lot to do with I think the
international kids are a little bit older in the sense

(02:07):
that they've had more varied experiences, they've been on their
own more so I think that for them, you know,
going away to school and being there, it's not a
big deal. And so yeah, I think not this year,
but I think next year, the year after that. I
think and Andy's going to be really really a big

(02:30):
factor in Yukon women's basketball. She's a great, great human being.
Nobody can keep her from offensive rebounding, and she's hard
to score over. You know, she's six six or whatever
the actually is, and you know, she's just a nice,
nice kid, a great kid.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
But she's got a.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Little bit of an edgy, mean streak on the court,
and a lot of our guys stay clear of her.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Just saying speaking of edgy, I mean, it's not like,
you know, do you have enough of those players that.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
We are so girly sometimes? You know, you know, the
thing that we talk about all the time is that
when when you're a competitor, you know, when you're competing,
you're you're always.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Trying to.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Basketball that you can say basketball is five on five
and at the same time, no, it's not. You know,
basketball is like a one on one sport. Right, I
have the ball, you're trying to guard me, and if
you can't guard me, then you know we've got a problem.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
And you have the ball and.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
I'm on defense, and if you can't go where you
want to go because my defense is so good, then
you got a problem.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
So I think.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Basketball requires a certain because there's no place to hide,
you know, right, you can play right field in baseball
and be out there for two hours, get a nice
sun tan and never get any balls hit to you,
and you strike out three times and you go home.
I was the game, Tommy, It was great. I had
a fun time. You know, in basketball, you got to

(04:19):
play man. There's no place to hide, so you got
to play defense, you got to handle the ball you got,
So it really becomes a game where you have.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
To you got to be tough.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
You gotta be tough, tough mentally, tough physically to play
this game. And I think when you when you when
you have the kind of offensive players that we have,
there really is one.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Alternative.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
If you're the other team, you're gonna have to find
a way to be so physical that we can't function.
We can't run our stuff, we can't go from here
to there, we can't you know, we can't and cut,
we can't do the things that we do. And that's
where really smart officiating comes in, because if you're a
really smart official, you go, okay, well what am I

(05:09):
what am I refereeing tonight?

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Well, I'm refereeing a team.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
That this is what they like to do. So if
they get beat up and they can't do it, then
that's a fout. That's you're not allowing these guys to
you know, the freedom of movement.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
If you're another team, like, what do they do? Well?

Speaker 3 (05:21):
They throw it in the post and they score in
the post. All right, So when these guys catch the ball,
you know, we can't you know, have these guys beating
the hall out of them and score. So bottom line
is you got to be you got to be physically
and more even more so mentally.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Tough to play at a really really high level.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
And and you know, we wouldn't be sitting here with
twelve national championships if we didn't have kids that the
other teams didn't want to play against. You know, if
you if you were coming up the floor and you
saw Shay and you looked in her face, you're like,
I don't want any part of this.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
You know. I used to see ber name my gun.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
I mean, we have a video of her standing at
the free throw line after we just scored and they're
inbounding the ball and she's like a cheetah and she's
just going like this, And you could tell the kids
just like I don't want any part of this, you know,
or you know, do you go in the lane and
there's Tina Charles just you know, Steph Dolsan and one

(06:20):
of these guys. So you got to have an intimidating
kind of a presence if.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
You want to be really, really good.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
And I know that you know a lot of our fans,
well we love this kid, we love that kid.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Oh, this kid's great. And then she's cute and she
just tough. Shit.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
You're like, you got to really be a tough kid
if you're going to apply. Like my daughter when she
was in Yukon, she was a nice kid and she
was great. I don't mean I want her on my team.
