(00:00):
We're back on the Yukon Men's BasketballCoaches Show. Following this show, it'll
be Bob Joyce, Gino Orima liveat Cafe Ara. I don't know what
they order a coach on the menuthere, but those guys they have a
lot of fun at Gino's restaurant. We talked to the coach in his office.
We don't go to restaurants, butwe're going to do the best we

(00:21):
can here to wrap this thing up. Okay, I'll love a trip to
Gino's restaurant. I know, Idon't know why Bob hasn't invited me.
Waste right down the street from myhouse. Bob, you got to get
me over there. Bob, let'sgo a lot of guys anytime. You
know that. Come Onie, let'stalk a little bit about next year.
I know we're right in the middleof this thing and the team's number one,

(00:44):
and we're talking to Dan all aboutit in the show. Isaiah Abraham
six seven forward coming to Yukon,Virginia. Kid tell me about him.
Listen, man, we're extremely excitedabout Isaiah and his future here. I
mean, he's he's he's uh,he's got great size, he's got tremendous

(01:04):
athleticism. You know, he's stilldeveloping as a three point shooter, but
he attacks the rim. He's agood passer, and again, like we
were just talking about, he hasthe upside to be, you know,
a tremendous defender at our level aswell. So he checks a ton of
boxes. He comes from great youknow, pedigree from Paul to six.

(01:26):
He's got a bat. He comesfrom a basketball family, you know,
his father being a former player Marquetteand his aunt being an All American that
played at George Washington. You know, comes from a great AAU program.
I mean, those are guys. Those are the kind of guys that have
come in our program and have donewell since we've been here. So we're
extremely excited about Isaiah. He fitsinto our culture great, just being a

(01:49):
hard hat kind of you know, lunch pale, tough, hard nosed kid
that wants to just come into workevery day to get better. So super
excited about about his future here withus. I've only seen video, I
haven't seen him in person. Obviously, you've seen him in person. Six
seven. That's a great size fora forward, isn't it. Yeah,
absolutely, and can play multiple positions. I mean, he could play anywhere

(02:10):
from the two to the four forUS with that kind of size. So
just give you so much versatility defensively. You know, he's got the ability
to get out and transition and makeplays. You know, he's a highlight
finisher at the rim, which you'veseen on video. And he's played in
big time games in big time environments. From the success that he had you

(02:31):
know, on the AAU circuit withTeam Takeover winning a peach Caam championship.
He's on one of the you know, best high school teams in the country
at paul of six, playing ina great league in a you know,
Catholic league down in DC. Sohe's gonna come into this program with tremendous
experience, and you know, we'reexcited about that U six to one guard

(02:53):
a Maude Noel Philadelphia guy. Topforty first of all, you know,
coach those rankings where people go he'sa top forty, top twenty, top
fifty, whatever. How much doyou make of that or how much do
you just trust your own eyes?Yeah, not much, to be honest
with you, that much. Imean, you know that's great for our
fan base, and you know it'sIt's great for the kids and their families

(03:15):
to be recognized that way. Butfor us, you know, the way
we you know, go about recruitingis we just got to find the right
fit for us. You know whatthe talent looks like, you know what
the makeup looks like. We wantto recruit guys that have committed the winning,
that come from blue collar backgrounds, and those are the guys that we've

(03:38):
had the most success with. Soyou know, when you look at Isaiah
Abraham and you look at Aman Noel, those guys fit what we do.
Those guys, you know, inthis office, we have the term they
look like huskies, yeah, youknow, and a Mon Noel fits right
in that mode for us. I'veseen a lot of video of him.
Man, He's impressive. I mean, he's tough as nails. He just

(04:00):
looks like he ain't backing down anywhereany place anyhow. Yeah, absolutely,
man, I mean I feel sorryfor the kids sometime with his high school
coach and with his you know, with his mentor and the work that he
puts in with those guys. Imean I've seen some stuff that you know,
have made me cringe, you know, but it's all for his development.

(04:21):
I mean that dude is gonna walkin here from day one ready to
compete. And finally, when yousay fit, what exactly are you saying
about getting a guy that fits withwhat we do? Yeah, I mean
we do it a little differently, man, than a lot of places.
I mean, you know, weget in here in June and we get
right to work. These aren't likeyou know, summer workouts where guys are

(04:43):
just getting some shots up and it'skind of like a country club thing in
the summer, and we wait forSeptember to ramp it up. Like no,
once those guys hit campus, we'regetting after it. You know,
we compete at a high level everyday. We push those guys out of
their comfort zone. And that's notfor everybody, you know, it's not
for everybody. We're we're extremely honest, you know with our players, and

(05:05):
you know, we hold them accountable. And you got to recruit kids and
families that understand that and want thatbecause that's not that's not you know,
that's not the norm in this era, in this generation. So you know,
those two guys, obviously, youknow, we wouldn't have went all

(05:26):
in on them if we didn't feellike they fit that way. Yeah,
that's important, no question about you. Guys are doing a heck of a
job. We appreciate you, anduh, someday, I hope you will
teach me to shoot the jump shotthat you can shoot. I cannot do
it, and I think if yougave me a little extra time perhaps I
can improve. Well, I'll tellyou this. You got four things,
and if you've been around the game, you probably heard them before. But

(05:48):
it starts with your balance, youreyes, your elbow, and then you
gotta hold that follow through, right, got you gotta that follow through is
non negotiable. Okay, all right, well that's good. I'm gonna I
made a note of that. I'mgoing to go back out in the driveway
and work on some of that stuff. You go, shovel the snow first,
man, Yeah, get my shovelfirst. Hold on. All right,
coach, we appreciate you. KamataYoung all right, thanks to Dan

(06:11):
