Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, your team did what they were supposed to do today.
Everybody got involved. And let's start with KK, our first
guest today. Seven points, seven assists, no turnovers. That's a
good way to manage your team.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
She was terrific right from the start. Didn't play a
lot of minutes. I think she played fifteen on the
low side for her, but got a lot done in
those fifteen minutes and really set the tone defensively. She
was really good. And then you know she we did
a really good job moving the ball on the offensive end,

(00:34):
and that started with KK.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Talk about the defense. That seems to have been game
after game, doing what you're wanting, putting intensity on the ball,
whether it's straight on or working in computing, communicating as
a team and making the right slide and help.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Yeah, we're just you know, I think we're just trying
to continue to get better every day, working on our pressure,
understanding a little bit more, getting smarter. I mean, I
think that's one thing that that Gino's really stressed with
these guys. Obviously there's physical improvement that you can make
and that we are making, and we're improving in specific areas,

(01:11):
but becoming a smarter team understanding things, seeing angles and
not really having that be determined by the opponent. Obviously today,
you know, DePaul was out matched. So that really isn't
the issue. The issue is how do we play and
how do we approach it and how are we getting better?
And I thought we approached both halves really well.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Chris. Was there a concerted effort to attack the rim
today to get to the free throw line more, especially
in the first half, it seemed that way.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
No, not, We've been trying. We've been focusing on it,
just trying to say, you know, I think there was
some kind of stat that we read. We're almost at
the very bottom and the entire nca Division one women's
basketball for a number of free throws attempted per game.
So we've been talking a lot about that and I

(02:05):
don't know if it just the opportunity was there, but
we need to make them. Obviously that was our free
throw shooting percentage was lower than the floor and I
think the three point line at one point. I don't
know what it ended up finishing. And we're a good
shooting team. We're a better free throw shooting team than that,
and so it's disappointing when you miss those those are

(02:25):
easy buckets. You know, nobody's guarding you, and those are
things that you should make. And we do a thing
at practice where you know, we have to make they
each get to shoot ten and we're supposed to make
ninety percent. If we don't make ninety, they have to run.
And the other day we had our highest percentage at
ninety two. I think I'm gonna have to start checking
to make sure that they're actually counting accurately because we

(02:48):
went from ninety two to fifty something. So I'm not
sure how that goes, but I think it's going to
help us again. You know, when you're you're working on
things and trying to get yourself to the free throw
lining because it creates creates issues for the other team
as well.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Well, free throws aside pretty much offensively, it just seemed,
you know, not just the transition baskets that you were
able to that looked pretty you know basketball script, but
just that whether it was around the three when they
did stop the drive, or being able to get inside
with back you know, your post players were getting a
job down low, you know, one on one in the paint,
or your guards driving. It just seemed that if the

(03:26):
first option was taken away, which wasn't often that they
were able to work it through what you wanted the
play to be and be able to score from any facets.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Yeah, I thought there was great balance in terms of
what how we what the shut the shots that we
did take. I thought we did a really good job
of finding aasy uh off the two or three passes.
Like I know, there was one down in the first
half where Sarah Williams didn't have anything at the high post.
She passed it to KK, then KK found k Asy.
We just did. I thought we did a really good

(03:54):
job of making good decisions, and that's what makes it
look pretty. You know, it's when you turn the ball
over or every other possession. If you're turning the ball over,
that makes for ugly basketball. But we were getting good
shots and not going.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
To mim four straight games either high thirties or forty.
As far as points go from points from the bench,
this is clearly the deepest team that we've had in
a while, the healthiest team that Ukons had in a while.
But to see the production that you're getting from your
bench players, that says a lot. Well.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
It certainly helps, you know, I think when you're able
to go to your bench, you you've always we've always
thought this way that when you go to your bench,
you want that the kids that come off the bench
to be able to change the game and to have
an impact on the game in a positive way. And
that doesn't always have to be in scoring. It can
be defensive, pressure, can be rebounding, it can be a
lot of things. But having that kind of production puts

(04:45):
pressure on the other team, and that's you know that
that's also you know, gives us confidence. And let's the
players that start feel good about coming out resting and
then going back in you know, ready to go.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
All right, Chris, thank you as always. Uh, we'll see
on the plane Thursday. Get ready for a triple.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
I will tell you that when I came out, I thought, oh,
they're already done because I looked at the old spot
he said. I literally Oh. I was like, oh, they
just they didn't need me today. And then I remember,
so you got you got. I finally remembered.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
All right, thank you, sir. We'll talk to you Saturday.
