Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, Well, Chris is decked out read I gave
her props in the pregame show filling in for Gino.
I guess we start with defense again because the first
three quarters Boys defense was really good again tonight.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Yeah. I think coming into it, we knew that they
didn't handle our pressure well last year, so we came
in with the same aggressive mindset, and I thought we
turned them over. We did a really good job. They
made some adjustments. We were switching and they started rolling
instead of popping out, and we had to make some adjustments,
(00:34):
and I thought we did a pretty good job with
that job. What greed would you give your team on
the whole game, because it seems a lot of fastest
they did pretty darn good. Well, you know, I thought
the first half we turned the ball over too many times,
and they weren't forced turnovers, they were kind of mistakes
on our ends. So that was disappointing. We were only
(00:56):
averaging twelve for an entire game, and we had eleven
at halftime. We cleaned that up and had five in
the second half. Most of those came I think in.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
The fourth quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
I think, you know, you never want to make a
win a loss I think our kids worked too hard
to come out in the fourth quarter and not get
things done. And I didn't think we got as much
done in the fourth quarter with different groups as we
could have and as we've shown in practice. So that's
just something I think we have to work on, you know.
But certainly, overall, we did a lot of great things.
(01:28):
We passed the ball well, so you know, looking at
it from the positive Standwoay, there are things that I
thought we did well, and then there's certainly things that
we needed to clean up.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Weeah ten straight games now of at least twenty assists
in a game. Kaylee heckled the way with six. You
look at Sarah Strunk's numbers and you say, wow, she
made her last nine shots after a slow start, seven
rebounds to assist, two steals, two blocks. But you mentioned
the turnovers. It seems like she's trying a few things. Yes,
she was a little slow in the first half, no question,
(02:02):
but it seems like she's working on that bounce pass
that Gabby Williams used to be so good at. Just
hasn't quite mastered that yet. But she does a lot
of things well.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
I don't know if i'd agree with that. I don't
think it was the bounce pass. I think she was
trying to make some plays that weren't necessarily there. She
was trying to make some plays for her teammates. But
I mean, I don't think there's a better passer than
Sarah Strong. It was uncharacteristic, I think, But I think
they were plays that she was trying to make something
(02:31):
happen that may either wasn't there exactly at that moment,
or could have been there but the other person might
not have been ready for it at that point. I'd
have to watch the film again. But I just I'm
always surprised because generally, if Sarah makes one mistake like that,
she doesn't make a bunch of them. And today they're
(02:51):
just seemed like it happened in a bunch in the
first half, but then not in the second half, because
she's usually a perfection. She is a perfection. So again,
I just thought it was uncharacteristic for her. How Bell, Caroline,
we saw our running off? She al right, it was
it sickness or what was that?
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (03:10):
No, Caroline's fine, She's fine.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Okat Okay, Hey, Sarah Williams gave you a pretty good effort.
Tonight in seventeen minutes, eleven points, six rebounds, a couple
of early misses, but it seems like you're always making
a concerted effort. I don't know if it's the planner,
it just works out that way, but she always seems
involved very early in the game. From a scoring aspect.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Yeah, I don't know that i'd say it was a
concerted effort to get that done. I think it was opportunity.
We've got a lot of guys that can if they
have matchups that go in their favor, but as a whole,
our post players can't miss as many layups as they do,
and that's you know, unfortunately it's Sarah Williams, it's Jenna.
(03:52):
We just can't because those are in our mind. That's
that's like a turnover because you're you know, you're not
getting a two when you're giving them an opportunity to
go down the other end and get more and usually
they score. So we just really have to clean that up.
That's one of those things we work on it every day.
We just have to really take advantage because we're working
really hard. Jana had set six offensive rebounds, so we're
(04:13):
working hard. It's not a question of work ethic or effort.
It's more just getting it done when when the timing
is there, and when you know you're in that moment
in this game, you need to be able to get
that done, make those layups.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Yeah, a few quick thoughts. On Saturday, the Hawk guys
are next in Brooklyn.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
You know, you know these are this game and that
and the game on Saturday are the two most dangerous
games for us because they're the two right before Christmas break.
Fortunately we're playing you know, I think Marquette's a good
team in our league, and then certainly Iowa is a
quality opponent that we really need to be able to
focus on and be focused in order to have a
chance to beat them. They're aggressive. They you know, they've
(04:55):
got the kids. I've never pronounced her name right, but Stulky.
She played well against us two years ago and she's
a junior a senior now. And their side, they play hard,
they play emotional. They put a lot of points on
the board. So we're gonna have our hands fall. We've
got uh some time to rest up a little bit,
pack up, get down to Brooklyn, and and then really
(05:16):
get down to business.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
And it's early too, so yeah, that's the best part.
Absolutely no argument there, Chris. Thank you as always, we'll
see you Saturday.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Thank you.
