Speaker 1 (00:00):
Entertaining game today. But defense, though, let's start, Their defense
was spectacular day.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Yeah, I thought, you know, I thought we did a
good job understanding who we needed to really defend and
how we wanted to defend them. Kept you know, we
needed to try to keep their big eyes off the backboard.
They're down. I mean, they've got a bunch of kids
that are injured. Their leading scorer just hurt her knee,
I guess the other day. So going to the book
and crossing out people, I felt like it was us
(00:27):
two or three years ago when I would just cross
out all the ones that weren't going to play that day.
But you know, they play hard and they have a
style that's their own, and I thought we handled all
that really well.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Multiple sets too. Boy, Blankie gave you a really good
minutes off the bench today in the first half.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Shed She is, you know, in many microwave at times,
you know, and she actually has no unlike maybe some
of our American players, she has no conscience when it
comes to if she misses, it doesn't matter. It doesn't
FaZe her in a bad way, Like she is a
conscious to chuck up everything, but it doesn't impact whether
(01:02):
she takes the next one or whether she thinks she's
going to make the next one. So her first shot
was an airball, and then she goes on that role.
So just very aggressive on the offensive end, and she's
we challenged her to be a better offensive rebounder and
I think she's trying to do that, trying to hit
the glass and give us more multiple opportunities.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
How big of a concern was that today rebounding It
turned out to be even both overall in offensive boards
do well.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
I think for me personally, I think rebounding overall is
a concern just because I think we need to do
a better job on the back where we don't box
out enough and we have not played teams with the
same size that we have, and when that happens, it's
going to be an issue. And you can't turn that
on and turn that off, so you have to really
(01:46):
concentrate on that. So it's something we've been focusing on,
just the you know, the basics, boxing out and go
get the ball.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
You know what's been good offensive rebounding from a guard
spot Ashland, She's had at least one offensive rebound in
every game as well.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Well. I will say the challenge went up to the
guards as well to hit the offensive boards, and Ash
and Blanca both have taken that to heart and have
both given us more opportunities. It's kind of like a
double edged sword. So we've gotten into this. You know,
we shoot fifty percent, so everyone thinks every shots going in,
so they tend not to go into rebound. And I
think that's a good you know process, you know, good thinking.
(02:22):
But we miss opportunities. So that's where the challenge was put,
you know, put out to them that, hey, we have
to get more opportunities.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
When your best player, Sarah Strong is diving for loose balls,
doesn't matter what the score is, that's a good sign.
She is relentless. And we've talked about this. How active
her hands are.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
I mean, yeah, she just you know, and I say it,
you know, she's got great hands and great feet. I
think it's from the soccer early on. But she's got
a quickness about her that you don't look at her
and think wow, that she's quick just by when she's
standing still. But when you watch her play, she just
and she doesn't foul and she doesn't make a lot
of mistakes in that way. And then the must part.
(03:00):
You know. I think that she saves balls and just really,
you know, again, helps us create more opportunities because you figure,
if we shoot fifty percent and we get more, we
create more opportunities and obviously we're gonna score more points
than the other team. So just the more, you know,
the more we can do that. I think that we
want that to be part of our our identity.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
All right. Finally, did you get to Jersey for Thanksgiving?
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Or no? We only we had we had Thursday off,
but it would have been hard to drive down and okay,
drive back. I've done it where I've driven down one
day back, but I did not do it this year.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Okay, but it was a good Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
It was very thankful, very good.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
All Right, thank you for a few minutes of your time.
We'll see on the plane.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Thanks Chris,
