Speaker 1 (00:00):
For your pages. How are you feeling in your first
game back down? Should you up?

Speaker 2 (00:09):
I'm feeling good. I'm just glad to be back out there.
Obviously first came back from anything. You just want to
get your feet wet, get the field playing basketball again,
on the physicality of it.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
The pace of it. But feeling good.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Yeah, cool page with you an age player on the court.
At the same time, you got the special of question,
how is it that you're gonna have to be the
field to you not always have to be a primary
ball hander that she got the court.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Yeah, I think we have a lot of people who
can handle the ball, who can make plays on our team.
I think we share that responsibility really well, knowing that
no one person's gonna dominate the ball, and we don't
want to share it. We don't want to touch it,
we don't want to move side of the court and
continue to involved moving that way. So it's definitely easier
for the team when you have funny and people will
handle a rock like that.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
It can't hate it.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Sometimes this coach is talking about they haven't turned the
ball over like this most of the season. Just more
do you feel like major guys is pressure so successful tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
I'll see understanding that's part of our identity as a team,
and just defensive intensity, that anticity, it brings energy. But
also communication was key for our team tonight and I
feel like we communicated very well and our pressure is
everybody was talking on the core, which made easy rotations
and things like that to make it easier for us
to get turn.

Speaker 5 (01:35):
Over do yeah, forging out plastic, it was like for
to see it easy to kind of pink back into
her normal self this past week.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Uh, it's been great.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
I think it'll do strives for a team in terms
of her being aggressive and her living score and the
defense happening to worry about her and her aggressive mentality,
and I think we'll.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Be a much better team. She continues place well anything
else with student athletes.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
But.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
For Diner be solid.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
But what was possible and how will beginning revenue share?

Speaker 1 (02:12):
So I just want to your opinion on my juge game.
I think that's huge just for.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Women to continue to capitalize on what we brought to
the sport and what we do for just sport in
general and entertainment and just to be able to be
a part of that. We're extremely grateful I think like
it's continued to grow as the sport grows, and so
it's a second right direction.

Speaker 6 (02:39):
Can you talk about like, did you see the signs
there's one girl that came from Florida. Does that even
surprise you anymore? How they're coming up to see you
in the rest of the team.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Uh yeah, I mean I never want to take it
for granted and think that people are obligated to come
watch us or it's not a blessing for people to
be in the stands when we play. So I never
want to take it for granted and continue to be
grateful for everybody who supports our team, especially to people
who come from a long distance, who spend a lot
of time, money, and effort to get here.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
All right, well, thank you, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 7 (03:18):
H Okay you guys, anybody.

Speaker 8 (03:28):
That understood anything KK Saturdays?

Speaker 9 (03:32):
Because I didn't.

Speaker 6 (03:36):
Can you just talk about your thoughts on the revenue sharing?

Speaker 4 (03:39):
Uh?

Speaker 9 (03:41):
Uh, maybe I missed it. I thought if the unit
is parguing.

Speaker 8 (03:46):
Yeah, here at c C people say revenue sharing today.

Speaker 9 (03:50):
I know, yeah, that means they just we just gave
more money to their players. Uh. I think.

Speaker 8 (03:59):
You know, the Big East was way ahead of a
lot of other conferences back when we had the Big.

Speaker 9 (04:12):
League, you know, sixteen teams.

Speaker 8 (04:18):
We had, we had revenue sharing within our own within
our own league, and you were you were rewarded for
winning the regular season, winning the tournament, going far in
the NCAA tournament, winning a national championship.

Speaker 9 (04:34):
So I thought it really incentivized.

Speaker 8 (04:39):
A lot of the teams in our league to make
an attempt to say, hey, let's give it a shot.
Let's see if we can capitalize on some of that,
because there are rewards now for excellence, for for what you.

Speaker 9 (04:52):
Put, what kind of product you put on the floor.

Speaker 8 (04:57):
And that was never the case on the big pictures
where the NCAA they were obviously been doing this on
the men's side for a long long time, and a
lot of the.

Speaker 9 (05:07):
Small schools, this is their this is their livelihood, right.

Speaker 8 (05:12):
A lot of the small schools they count on their
men's team making the NCAA tournament, trying to go deep
into the tournament. That is a huge, huge chunk of
their revenue as a department. So to have another team,
you know, within the department that can theoretically earn that.

Speaker 9 (05:36):
It's great for the schools it's great for the future
of the game, of the sport.

Speaker 8 (05:45):
It's another step in the right direction based on what's
happened the last couple of years. And like they said,
it's capitalizing on the momentum that's out there.

Speaker 9 (05:55):
There is money being put on, you know, on.

Speaker 8 (06:00):
The table for broadcast rights and you know, any other
corporate investments, and the schools are going to be the
beneficiary of that, as it should be. It's MHM, it's
part of you know, it's a it's a statement saying
we I don't think you could ever say we can

(06:21):
be totally self supportive. I don't think any anybody thinks that,
but certainly, you know, it's it's a it's a statement
that they made today about where women's basketball fits into
the big picture of college.

Speaker 9 (06:36):
Athletics, HM culture.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
After the USC game, you talk about your big express
job from that point on to now, what do you
think about how the goverment ESPC you're around or where.

Speaker 8 (06:53):
Yeah, there's a trend in in basketball at all levels.
You know, from the top to the bottom NBA down, that.

Speaker 9 (07:09):
The big man that used to exist back in the day.

Speaker 8 (07:13):
You know, kids in value as much anymore, you know,
they may be a pretty good defensive player.

Speaker 9 (07:19):
They may be a pretty good shot blocker and.

Speaker 8 (07:21):
Protective of that, but when it comes to, you know,
using that that player as a big part of your offense,
it's kind of drifted away, so to speak, when where
that used to be the beginning point of your team.
I never you know, I never thought that that was

(07:41):
the answer. You know, We've always prided ourselves and having
you know, big kids that could impact the game a
lot of different ways, going back to you know, Carol
Walters and Rebecca logo and moving on from there and
the hall of famers that we've had late a position.

(08:01):
So as it relates to Jenna, there's a lot of
growing that she has to do. There's a lot of
learning that she has to do.

Speaker 9 (08:13):
It's you know, she made.

Speaker 8 (08:15):
A great comment the other day, she said, you know,
when I played over in Egypt, we didn't pay that
much attention to the details that we pay attention to here.

Speaker 9 (08:23):
So that's a whole learning curve for a kid like that.

Speaker 8 (08:26):
And what ends up happening sometimes is they spend more
time thinking than actually playing, which is okay because you
have to learn how to play the game.

Speaker 9 (08:36):
She's learning little.

Speaker 8 (08:37):
By little every day she's having more of an impact
little by little every day. I asked her to tip
the ball backwards a defensive tap. The other day she
volleyball smashed it forward to one of the other guys
on the other team. So my Arabic isn't very good yet.

(08:58):
So I'm working on that and that'll help her grow
a little bit more.

Speaker 9 (09:04):
Drast me for good free.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
What did you just like to Page today?

Speaker 5 (09:09):
And first came back and restriction.

Speaker 8 (09:12):
That kid came all the way from Florida to see
Page plays. And when whenever you whenever you take any
time off, you know you're always going to have a
little bit of a pick up when you go in here.
And the way the game started, and she looked like
she just picked up exactly where she left off.

Speaker 9 (09:32):
But then you start to see her drift.

Speaker 8 (09:35):
And she doesn't have the stamina to you know, keep
her foot on the gas like she normally would. So
she spent a part of the first half just wandering,
you know, and we couldn't get her enough shots. Then
when we started the second half, maybe it was getting
a you know, getting a breather. We changed up a

(09:57):
couple of things. Then all of a sudden back back back,
you know. So, I never I never doubt you know,
what Page can do to impact the game, because I've
seen it so many times. But I also know she's
not a robot where you just put her in, push
the button and everything happens automatically. But you know, glad

(10:22):
we had her back today. She'll be even better on Sunday.
And let's just hope. You know, that's the leastous.

Speaker 9 (10:29):
Was she on her minute restruction to night, Well, she
says she wasn't.

Speaker 8 (10:35):
I made she bought twenty three twenty Yeah, she played
twenty three minutes. Yeah, she said, I'm not I'm not
a minute restriction. I said, well, actually you are, but.

Speaker 9 (10:51):
It will have nothing to do with your leg It'll
be everything how you play. That's why I couldn't wait
to get her out on the first day.

Speaker 8 (10:57):
So it ended up being like I was hoping for,
like twenty one, twenty two, ten eleven minutes each half.

Speaker 9 (11:05):
You know, so, I think we hit the mark pretty close.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
It's amazing.

Speaker 8 (11:12):
I feel like you talk a lot about perconsistency and practice.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Do you feel like you're starting to see that.

Speaker 8 (11:16):
Translate to the game situations now for.

Speaker 9 (11:19):
Her yeah, Yeah, she's being more aggressive. I think.

Speaker 8 (11:24):
I always again, I always marvel at how.

Speaker 9 (11:32):
Precise she is with everything she does.

Speaker 8 (11:34):
You know, there's not a lot of waste of motion,
there's not frivolous stuff that she does. Everything's button down,
pretty you know, pretty tight.

Speaker 9 (11:45):
You know.

Speaker 8 (11:46):
She she just plays the game in a way that
makes you think, Wow, this girl's put a lot into this.
You know, she's she's trained herselves to play at a
certain pace, in a certain level.

Speaker 9 (12:00):
It's it's interesting that and I hope that I can
figure this one out.

Speaker 8 (12:04):
But you know, I think I think she maybe sometimes
feels when it's all on my shoulders, then I have
to do a lot. That's good when I have to
share it with everybody else, that's really kind of comfortable.

Speaker 9 (12:18):
And that's what I'll do. I'd like for her to.

Speaker 8 (12:21):
Kind of be even more like she suffers from the
same thing that Page did and Sarah does, or I
think they they want to do just enough to help
us win, you know, and I like for them to
really And I'm hoping that Easy keeps building on it,
you know, she keeps building.

Speaker 9 (12:44):
That's it. You know, we're building towards March. So one
game at a time.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Going back to the announcement about what you ask and
being able to to do this, What do you think
needs to happen next?

Speaker 9 (12:56):
And how can they this? You know, what can happen before,
things that happened.

Speaker 8 (13:01):
Relatives to the to the units far or just next. Well, Notice,
I mean I don't know what I mean. Everybody knows
what the men's tournament is because they make that public
every March, you know, and and everybody knows that it's
a billion dollar business.

Speaker 9 (13:22):
Uh. Where we are.

Speaker 8 (13:26):
Right now, whatever the numbers that are out there, I
think this year, based on what we do, those numbers
are going to turn out to be low for what
I think we're we're worth.

Speaker 9 (13:44):
Out there on the market.

Speaker 8 (13:46):
So what has to happen next is there has to
be a There has to be an NCAAA commitment, which
this proves that there is. There's got to be Uh,
We've got to go back to four regionals, right so
that we can spread the game around the country more

(14:08):
instead of just two sites, and that will I think
make even more revenue available for everybody. And I think
the onus is on the coaches and the players to
keep getting better, because once you get the.

Speaker 9 (14:23):
Spotlight on you.

Speaker 8 (14:25):
Now there's an expectation and we just have to keep
meeting those expectations.

Speaker 9 (14:30):
And you know, players like Page and Kkas and.

Speaker 8 (14:34):
Those guys, you know, they can do a lot to
push this thing forward even more so. And the fact
that you know, the the league that starts this week,
the unrival league that's still in and.

Speaker 9 (14:49):
The visa that just is more.

Speaker 8 (14:54):
More eyes watching more women's basketball, and all those are
going to add up you know, a beating too.

Speaker 9 (15:01):
You know, to what we're doing.

Speaker 8 (15:05):
It's exciting and I hope that we can now we
can capitalize on it. You know, yeah, he took that
unrelival you know two former players, Yeah, we and PC
fusing heads against each other in w n B A Yeah,
fine together the.

Speaker 9 (15:22):
Formerly What does that make you feel?

Speaker 8 (15:31):
Well, they learned how to play basketball, you can. They
learn how to grow up, They learn how to be
great teammates, and they paid attention and learn where the
money is and that if you're gonna put this much
into it, put this much effort into it, how do

(15:53):
you find a way to capitalize on it. So I'm
incredibly proud of you know, how they represent themselves and
their families and how they represent you know, the WNBA
and what they've done, which took a lot of courage
because you don't know if it's if it's actually gonna go,

(16:15):
and everywhere they go and everything they do, it'll always
be mentioned that they played at Yukon, And to me,
that's something that for the rest of their lives, everywhere
they go, everything they accomplished.

Speaker 9 (16:30):
We're going to be a part of that.

Speaker 8 (16:32):
And I couldn't be you know, I couldn't be prouder.

Speaker 9 (16:36):
It was like my own, my own kids at home.
You know, It's just.

Speaker 8 (16:41):
When I met both of those kids, they were seventeen
years old, just hoping to get a chance to play
basketball at a high.

Speaker 9 (16:46):
Level, and now they're incredibly.

Speaker 8 (16:51):
Accomplished, gold medal winners and incredible human beings. I'm as
excited as anybody to watch, you know, this weekend we
had two amazing kids, absolutely amazing.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
Of course, you talk about paying at Tendative Detect the
first high you guys are able to kind of picking
two reports.

Speaker 9 (17:23):
As a speak, you don't be able to.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
Get any shots you want speak of the office, especially
in the first hif.

Speaker 8 (17:31):
Yeah, you know when you last year when we couldn't
sub Our offense was great because those guys knew, I
don't care if I throw the ball if somebody said
five times, they can't take me down.

Speaker 9 (17:42):
So they played through all their stuff.

Speaker 8 (17:44):
You know, and they created a real good chemistry together
and knew each other.

Speaker 9 (17:48):
So this year we have the ability to get more
players in the game.

Speaker 8 (17:51):
So I'm trying to give players an opportunity to see who.

Speaker 9 (17:56):
Fits with who, who fits with what.

Speaker 8 (17:58):
So that first quarter, we kept that that group intact,
and we score twenty five points in the first quard
against one of the best defensive teams in the biggest right,
So we get twenty five in the first quarter. Then
as the substitutions come and as new lineups come in,
it just.

Speaker 9 (18:14):
Gets really yeah, it gets really confusing out there watching
what's going on.

Speaker 8 (18:24):
But at the same time, I don't know that we
would gain as much if we keep those guys on
the bench and try to score one hundred and try
to score ninety.

Speaker 9 (18:36):
Serves no purpose, you know.

Speaker 8 (18:38):
So I think my job is to is to try
to figure out how do I get these kids in
the game.

Speaker 9 (18:45):
Who do I put them out there with?

Speaker 8 (18:47):
You know, get them some confidence and it's not going
to look good. And you know, once you take Page
out of the game, and you take Hasy out of
the game, you've got a lot of kids that have
not played a lot of basketball, and it's gonna look bad.

Speaker 9 (19:09):
Bad.

Speaker 6 (19:12):
Yeah, going back to Janna, how much is her going
into the starting lineup really helped the confidence? It seems
like she's gotten better each game that she started, other
than the beginning of the game.

Speaker 8 (19:23):
To me, I would imagine it helped a little bit,
feeling like the coaches have confidence in me to put
me out there. Early on, she didn't like the fact
that we put her out there and then she would
come out because she would get herself from found trouble

(19:44):
and we couldn't keep her on the court.

Speaker 9 (19:48):
So I think little by little her the things that
she would do.

Speaker 8 (19:57):
To get her in trouble, she's doing less and less
of those the little things that we need her to do,
you know, be a better screener, be a better rebounder,
finish better around the basket. You know, there's no rule
that says every time you catch the ball in the
low post you have to make seven moves before you
shoot it. Just catch turn around, right, So as we

(20:18):
try to simplify things for her, she's going to keep
getting better. And as she keeps getting more confident, she
keeps getting better. There's nobody else on our team like her,
so we you know, we've got a player, and and
we're gonna need her in games like we're going to
