Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to the Yukon men's basketball coaches showed Mike
chris Pino along with Silas Demriy Junior as we talk
to Yukon Basketball. Just spent some time with coach Hurley.
Uh Sila's going to recap a little bit of what's
been going on for you and the team. Obviously, uh
Arizona was a big night at Gamble, that first time
you've kind of been in that big game arena with

(00:23):
this team. What was your impressions of the arena and
the crowd and the entire atmosphere in that game.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Yeah, my impressions of the arena and the crowd was
just it was It was fun.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Man.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
It was a lot of fun just to be in
that environment, to be able to play in that game,
knowing that how high of love of the game was
going to be, and just to be able to compete
in the fans cheer us on. You know, it was
just a lot of fun and I think the fans
brought it. I think they said that was like the
first top five matchup in Gamble in a long time.
So just to be a part of that, you know,
playing that was a special moment for the team.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Nine and you've been into it now. You were in
Boston and that was a heck of a win over
a good BYU team playing on this level. And you
played a lot of high level college ball obviously in
the SEC and in Georgia. This is a little bit different,
isn't it? The neutral site stuff? And now you're going
to go to Madison Square Garden. I got to feel

(01:18):
like it's exciting for any player.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, it definitely is exciting. You know, I'm coming from
playing those big time games. It's just home versus away now,
like you said, is neutral site. So to be able
to travel somewhere as a team and go to a
site where you don't usually play often. Well, obviously we
play in Missy a couple of times, but for me
this would be my first time like just being a
part of that now, I'm very excited and I just
can't wait to get out there and.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Play silas Demrie Junior is with us. The excitement of
playing in those big arenas. That doesn't seem to phase you.
That's my first impression. Why do you think that is?
Why do you think it? Don't you know? The situation
isn't too big for you.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
I just think just the hard work I've put in
over the past couple of years, and then just the
coaches and my teammates just helping me be as prepared
as possible, and just going into the moment knowing that
it's just another basketball game. Just because we're in a
moment where we're playing another high level team doesn't mean
we have to make the game way more complex than
its beating. You know, just simplify the game, make as

(02:20):
many players as I can for the team, and you know,
just try to just try to win the game.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
You had a big assignment for least part of the
night against Arizona Jaden Bradley. I imagine that's gotta be
one of the toughest guys in the country to guard
it was. What was your impression of him?

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Yeah, he was, he was. He was their PG man.
I think he kind of controlled that whole game. You know,
as a as a veteran point guard, you know, he
has a lot of experience. I think he controlled that
game the whole game. And I think just him making
those big time plays down and trust repeatedly, like him
making the right read and making the right play, whether
that be scoring or dropping it off. I think he
did that a lot of the times, and I think

(02:58):
that's the reason why they got to win.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Over Yeah, and that's the kind of games I mean,
you're going to be involved in here the rest of
the season. You got a long way to go, obviously
you're very early in the season. Then you had to
follow up with the game against Brian at People's Bank Arena,
a game that and coach was just talking about this.
It was kind of a sluggish game. You guys couldn't
shake them, even though you led by substantial points. It

(03:20):
just didn't seem like you could put the killer boot down,
you know what I mean, to blow the thing open.
But what happened in that game from your perspective, as
the Huskies were able to win the game, but you know,
it wasn't like one of those blowout we're much better
than you games, right.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
I think we just got to execute better. I think
when teams switch against us, we kind of get stagnant.
So we just got to find ways to just keep
the ball movement and you know, instead of you know,
relying on plays, let's try to get on transition with
our defense and you know, just try to call as
as minimal plays as we can and just play off
of a field rather than having the call set plays
all the time.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
The Huskies are running the court better this year and
you're doing it more. Part of that obviously, you got
Jayden Ross, you got solo ball who can run. You know,
you've got a group of guys that can get out
on the break. What's the key to starting a fast
break and making it work.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
I think you got to get a stop first, and
then you got to get out and transition. You know,
those first two to three steps are important. I think
we got to fill our lanes and you know, just
be where we need to be, whether that be if
we drive from the top of key, somebody cut might
open an open three. You know, in transition, you always
want to try to find the best advantage you can.
So I think we just got to do that. But
it starts on the defensive side to be able to
do that.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Yeah, and the Husky's had thirteen fast break points against Brian.
We're talking to silast Emory Junior here on the Yukon
Men's Basketball Coaches Show on Mike Crispino. And that was
a big night for you, ten ten and ten I
was rooting for you obviously the crowd was Did you
know at some point that you were close to having
a triple double because that's a pretty cool thing for

(04:52):
a point guard.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Oh yeah, I kind of. I think a couple of
the guys kind of told me as I was going
throughout the game that it was getting closer, and I
might have looked up a few times and saw that
I had a kind of a real chance to be
able to get that triple double. So I think once
I was able to kind of notice I was on
pace to get it, I kind of just kept making
the right place and just try to find myself round
the ball and do the right thing.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Yep, get it to the right guys like Eric Ravo
who got the big bucket to give you ten assists,
where with Silas Emery Junior back in a moment. More
