Speaker 1 (00:00):
What back On the ucont Hockey Coaches Show, I'm your host,
Bob Joyce tied out for our player interviews. First up
is Cait and Shay Han, sophomore from Everett, Washington, which
is north of Seattle. Let's start there. Caden, first of all,
thanks for joining us. And boy, what a beautiful area
where you grew up. Did you spend much time on

(00:21):
the sound or were you a mountain guy or any
or either one?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Well, first of all, thank you for having me. I
was a mix of both.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
I would go to the Sound a lot with my
grandpa and going fishing with him a lot. Chris Salmon
early mornings, waking up brown three in the morning going
out there, and then grew up here mountains, there's a
lot of them, So went hiking a couple of times.
Not much so so I would say more of a
sound guy. But it was a mix of both too.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
So being a hockey kid and getting up at three
am with your grandpa to go fishing, I guess that
those early wake up calls to go to hockey practice
work that hard.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Then, No, I was.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
I was always a morning guy when I was younger, when.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
There dropping hockey was early in the mornings.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
I begged my mom to take me those morning so
I was I was up pretty early and that I
was ready to go.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
There you go. H third multipoint game with a season
on Saturday, to come from behind win against Northeastern up
at Matthew's Arena, where Ukons had a lot of success recently.
Coach cav referred to it as a process based win.
In fact, he feels like, you guys played better Saturday
than you did Friday. Kind of run me through that

(01:39):
from a player's perspective.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
Yeah, no, I thought we played a full sixty minutes
on Saturday. Yeah, we got the win on Friday, but
I don't think your process was that good on Friday,
as coach Cavs says.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
But I think Saturday we.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
All stalked to our process and played a complete sixty
and whether it was just it was just a team
effort and everyone did everything we could do and we
chose the hard way on Saturday, So it was it
was a complete win for us on Saturday, which was nice.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Can played at Sioux City was the top scorer in
the league before he came to Yukon, and you were
a teammate of one Ethan Gardula, who had himself a
nice weekend as well. Did it help you with the
transition from the USHL to yu Kond having Ethan there
at your.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Side, Yeah, it was nice.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
I'm definitely coming in my freshman summer not knowing anyone
by Guardula made it a lot easier, you know, rooming
in with him in the dorm during the summer and
during the year.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Now living with him in a house, it's.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Just it's like a it's just so much easier to
go into someone that you don't really know so much about,
and you already know someone for so long and just
know all about him, so it's a lot easier going
in to a place where it just it's new, when
it's fresh for you, and having someone that you can
rely on that you've relied on so much in the

(03:07):
years before. So it's definitely nice having him here now.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
You played with him a lot last season with Ethan Wickham,
you guys relying together on Friday, Were you guys linemates
much in juniors.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
Here and there, You know, line lines change a little bit,
but I would say we played with each other most
of the time, and definitely definitely in the postseason of
my second year institute. We played a whole postseason with
each other, so going from the end of juniors going
into Yukon, it was just playing with Gardo a lot.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Yeah, and you played with Ethan Wickham too last season
a lot. What was that trio like, It seemed like
late in the year, you guys really picked up a
good chemistry.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Yeah, no, it was fun. It was definitely some sorry,
some tough, tough starts for us. You know, we didn't
we weren't really used to the college level at first
playing with each other, but then we kind of found
our role on the team later in the year, and
it definitely helped us three build that chemistry and know

(04:11):
whose job is what and who's gonna be there at
what place.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
So it definitely built chemistry.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
And we all three lived with each other, so definitely
off the ice help build our chemistry for on the
ice too.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
All right, walk me through your goal Saturday night. You
played with Carlon Dezayne and Ryan Tattle. Title's like the
Tasmanian devil. He gets after it down the ace, batless
four checker. Really has turned himself into a nice goal scorer.
But tell me about the goal how Ryan sets you up.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Yeah, so I think it started with the zane. He
turned the puck over and title got the puck down.
He was heading towards the net, and I saw the
two guys.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
Sorry, the two defense been closing on him, so I
kind of stayed more in the slot and he saw
me and it was all from him.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
I mean, he bed in a good.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Pass and I had half the net open, so just
put it in.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Yeah, in those cases, In those cases, do you feel
more pressure that I have to put this in? Uh?

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Not really. I mean there's always gonna be pressure when
you shoot the puck. Score.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
I mean, you we're down too at the time, so
it's just like we gotta get back in this game.
So I just did my best to put the puck
in the net there, and honestly, it wouldn't have really
went in if it wasn't for Tattle.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Yeah. Uh. It seems like there's a lot of Sioux
City guys. We mentioned you, and you think our dula
Antheo Elaine Sumaki is from Sue City, and of course
Tabor Heaslip was also a Sioux City guy. Did you
ever play with the Sumaki at all?

Speaker 3 (05:42):
No, I never played he was there the year after
I left, and then Taber was there the year before
I came into Sioux City, and then Fitzgerald was there
the two years I was with them.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Oh that's right. Forget about Kevin, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
That he was there my two years, and Guertsey was there.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
He played a couple of games my first year, and
then he was able a full year for my second year.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Kevin missed last year with an ac L injury. He's
come back nicely. How much did you help him along?
At least giving words of encouragement to keep battling and
you know with the progress that he made in his rehab.
What was that for you as a teammate.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Yeah, it's tough having a season long injury. I mean
I can imagine what that felt like just sitting on
the sidelines, but more just being a teammate and being
a good friend for him, just being there with him
and doing all the other stuff outside the rink with him,
you know, with them, the class with him and all
that type of stuff. So just I think she's more

(06:40):
like being there and being a close friend for him
definitely help.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Now, Caden's weren't a Yankee hat, so we know he's
a Yankees fan. What about hockey? Who's your team and
who are guys you like to watch play?

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Oh? I'm actually Seattle Manners fan. I just have this
Yankees hat because of the college. I like it.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
But for hockey was Pittsburgh growing up until the Cracking
became a team, So I would see mccracking now and
then Pittsburgh fan.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Second.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
All right, favorite player? Would would said? The kid be
in that list?

Speaker 2 (07:10):
It was, Yeah, Sidney Caralseer was my favorite player growing up.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
All right, very good, Hey Kayden, we look forward to
seeing you on the ice again soon. And thank you
for a few minutes of your time today.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Yeah, thank you so much, really appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
All right. That is Kayden Shahan. His teammate Joey muldowney.
You've heard of him. He's pretty good. He's next on
the Coaching Show here on Liarfield. Stay with us.
