Speaker 1 (00:00):
Will be the player guests. Ryan Tattle is with us
right now. He is now one of the captains. He
had an a last year on his jersey, coming off
a fantastic year the Port Moody, British Columbia native career
high eighteen goals, thirty two points, nine multi point games
and that close from going to Saint Louis. First of all,
that's great to have you with us. And I asked

(00:20):
Messinio this too. How long did it take you to
get over that loss? Because it, man, you guys that
close Joey Muldowney's postrike, if it's that far inside you're in.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Yeah, I mean.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
It's a game of ventures, I guess. But uh no,
it sucked for a little bit there. I mean, probably
the hardest part was just seeing you know, the seniors
and you know, the fifth year is kind of you know,
that's kind of it for them, you know. For us,
you know, we were able to regroup in a month
or so and be like, okay, we got another chance
to do something. But yeah, it was pretty hard seeing
those guys, you know, after that game.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Reflect a little bit.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
What was it like to have how he as a
teammate the time that you two played together.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Yeah, I mean one of my best friends.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
I mean, we we see each other all the time
this summer. We live thirty minutes apart, so you know,
it was pretty easy to go to war with that
guy every day. So yeah, like I said, suck seeing him,
seeing Betsy c and Larks Gog seeing all those guys
be be so torn up about that.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
But you know, you kind of just gotta use that
as motivation.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
You know, I don't want to feel like that this year,
and you know, I know all the guys that are
coming back don't want to feel like that again.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
So it's a motivator for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Now, like I said, you had a letter on your
switter last season, But what kind of things from Huddy's
leadership can you take and use yourself? Everybody's different, we
all know that in the leadership qualities, But what kind
of things from Honey can you take the way you
lead with this team?

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Yeah, I think you know, one big thing that he
was really good at is he's such a good listener.
And I think, you know, over my college career and
even you know in junior's it's leadership something you kind
of are always learning about and developing. So you know,
one thing I definitely appreciate about how these leadership is
he's a really really good listener. He He's really open

(02:12):
to anything. So you know, whether we have whatever it is,
any kind of decision that you know, I feel like
the leadership group is gonna make or go over. You know,
He's really good at listening to all kinds of perspectives
and things like that. So that's one of the many,
many things I took from him as a leader, as
a guy, as a friend.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
So yeah, yeah, and I'm glad to see he gets
he's getting a chance to play this fall somewhere playing hockey.
Last season when he was hurt through the Hockey East tournament,
you got to play with Joey and the Jake. Do
you see that being as a first weekend line for
you guys? You three, the way you work so well together,
because I mean, you just fit right in with those two.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Yeah, I mean, I'll trust whatever the coaches put together.
I mean, you know, if I'm playing with them, if
I'm playing with with someone else, it's.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
It's raining it up to us.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
But you know, I think one of the good things
about our group is we're also close off the ice,
so that whenever you put pretty much any combination together,
it's really easy to mesh because we're just brothers. It's
it's pretty natural. So you know, like I said, whether
I'm with them, whether I'm with somebody else, to me,
it's kind of all the same.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
I think we'll click pretty well.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Here with Ryan Tendel on the hockey coaches show what
kind of things and I know there's some things stay
in the locker room and that's understood from a leadership standpoint.
What kind of bonding things can you do outside that
maybe you can talk about a little bit with the
new guys particularly.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah, I think the biggest thing is we just hang
out a lot. You know, we literally whatever it is.
There's a night football, everyone, let's go hang out, Let's
go watch the game. You know, we kind of have
an open door policy everywhere, so you know, it's whether
guys want to come to my apartment, or we want
to go to the house, or we want to go anywhere.
You know, no one's ever going to say no. So

(04:00):
I think that's kind of the biggest thing is we
just were always hanging out. We're always together, and like
another thing is for us really, there's no freshman, there's
no senior, there's no sophomore. You know, everyone's everyone's a brother,
everyone's part of the family. So I think that's something
that maybe is a little different than other programs. I'm
not too sure, but you know, everyone's kind of treated
the same. You know, it doesn't matter if you're an

(04:20):
upperclassman or an underclassman. It's it's your part of our team,
you're part of our family, and you're gonna be treated
the same.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Does it kind of blow you away now that you're
a senior though? I mean, you know, you get here,
you think that four years that's a long time.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
No, it's not.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
It goes fast, doesn't it.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Yeah, it goes pretty fast. It's sorry. I think guys
are walking in.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Yeah, it goes and you're giving you grief.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Yeah, they always are, you know, but no, it goes
really fast. I think we were talking about it in
the summer session. Actually, a bunch of seniors were just
hanging out one night and we're like, man, it flies by.
We remember our our freshman year fields, like yesterday we
were all U and the dorms. Yeah, they're wondering what
practice is going to be like and what we're going

(05:03):
to have to endure. But yeah, it really goes by
so quickly, and I'm very grateful for my time here
at you ConA and take any of it for granted,
and hopefully.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
For my senior year we can do something a little special.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Yeah, it's a pretty good group here, yourself, Tristan Fraser,
Tabor East Slip, Jake Persval. I think I'm forgetting one
or two other guys, but to see where this program
has gone in that in the four years here, and
there's still work to be done, I imagine unfinished business
is probably because yes, you've been top four in Hockey East,
you've been to the NCAA tournament, you've been to the
Hockey East Finals. I want to take that next step,

(05:39):
maybe do a lot of little get a little higher
in Hockey East, win that Lamarillo Trophy, and then then
after that we'll worry about it afterwards.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Exactly.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Yeah, I think you always you always want to try
for more, and you know, like you said, good year
last year. You know kind of been building all three
years i've been here. I think you know it's time,
it's time that we kind of make some real So
we're already we're excited and hungry for it.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Last question, it was actually Grace Jenkins who brought this
up last spring when the softball team made it to
the ncs for the first time in a long time.
There's a lot of success on campus, and it's not
just the basketball teams. It's not just baseball or soccer.
The track teams are always doing well. But it seems
like there seems like a little bit of internal pressure

(06:25):
for every program to succeed. Right next door the women's
hockey team their first NCAA birth a couple of years ago.
Do you guys ever talk about the internal pressure to
succeed just on campus with it with what everybody else
is doing.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Honestly, No, not really.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
I think, you know, we all understand that there is
some sort of pressure, but we all want to be
there as well, you know what I mean. So I
think the pressure a lot of times comes from within.
You know, we put it on ourselves, we put on
each other, but we also rely on each other and
we know each other when those pressure moments happen, and
so it's definitely something we're not completely naive too. But

(07:03):
I don't think it's something we're stressing over you know,
we love to play hockey. We love the pressure, we
love the grind that comes with it. So we're we're
eager to get going. We're not we're not near us.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
There you go, and it starts Friday night at nine
Eastern at Colorado College. That's always a pleasure, my friend.
And hopefully we'll see in a couple of weeks when
Ohio State comes to town. That's our first broadcast. Hopefully
as long as the Red Sox beat the Yankees sounds good?
All right, that's Ryan Saddle with us on the Coaches Show.
We'll come back and wrap things up with Coach Cabin
a minute on the Yukat Hockey Coaches Show from Learfield.
