The thing that was so fun about it is that

And then we find I'm like, what is this story?
My son is like these guys are gamblers. They got
millions of dollars on this game, and they're professional gamblers.

That's where my head. That's immediately where my.

Bael went, which is a good bet, except it was
even better than gamblers. They were and I can't say
who because they told me not to say anything, but
two of the pitchers, they were their agents. And let's
just say that one of the pitches cost that guy

said to my son, I say, how many people in
this stadium right now would take a year off their
life to have the Blue Jays win? And my son says,
I would have for Michigan. And I'm like, and he says,
not for this game. I'm like, I hope it's not
for this game. You start a room for the Blue
Jays like a week ago.

But you know what's amazing is it was, And like
this is I get so mad. I get so mad,
Brad when people will go, like, my favorite sport is
hockeynumber two right up there with it is baseball, and
then it drops off to the rest.

Rogers and seeing that game in person. I can't imagine
what the tension was inside that stadium.

there were when when it cleared out. We knew it

when I say, you could hear the ten wives that
were there cheer and basically almost no one else. So
when the home runs happened, you heard like a dozen
people cheer and when and that means that when the
Bougays were up, which where they were up for nine
innings of the game. The place was explosive, right, I

mean it was so crazy that it was like an earthquake.
And then you know, to be in the ninth inning,
you are two outs away from winning, and when that
home run went, it was like a knife through the place.
It was so emotional. And the thing that is the
wildest is that Canadians are so much nicer than we are, right,

like Canadians when they lost, even in the loss, in
the moment that the loss, I was like, oh, man,
so sorry to my buddy. And he's like, you know what,
the team just gave us such a great year. I
can't ask for more than that. And I looked at
my son and I said, son, is that you feel
He's like, absolutely not. You know, He's just like in America,
we do not do that. Like we are just like
are you kidding? And they are so thankful on the

plane ride home and they're like, yeah, they just gave
us such a good year, so much entertainment. I'm like,
you're so nicer than we are.

Football League game a few years ago and we're watching
the game and we're sitting and you know, we were
in I think it was in Toronto and maybe with
Vancouver were Vancouver, and we're watching this game and we'd
never been to a Canadian football game and there's a
moment where we look at the school board and the
and then the other team has an extra point that

we don't know where it came from, and we're like,
where'd they get that point from? When? Was it a war?
We missed it? So I stay to the guy next
to me, like where's the point? Like, well, is this rule?
If like you don't get out of the end zone
or they stopped you before that, they award an extra point.
I'm like, oh, thank you for the rule clarification. And
then whatever. Half the game goes behy and the art
you know, the Canadian team scores and they don't go

for two, which would have tied up the game. And
I say to the guy next to me, why didn't you
go for two there to tie up the game? And
the guy goes, well, you know, the coach knows what
he's doing, so you know, we trust him. And I'm like,
I've been here for two hours and i feel like
I know more than this coach. Like I'm mad on
behalf of all Canadians. I'm like, can you imagine sports

radio and Canada. They're like, what do you think of
the game today? And you're like, ah, we just trust
the coach. He knows what he's doing.

I'm like, no way, Hey, so Brad, let me ask
this before I get back to the game.

So I got I was on my this is crazy,

My son's flight gets canceled on the way in from
New York on Thursday, and he's like, I can't miss this.
He's like, if I fly on Friday, I potentially missed
the game if the flight's delayed. So he takes a
bus ride from Port Authority in New York City, an

eleven hour bus ride from eight pm, arriving in Toronto
seven am because he's like, I can't miss this. Okay,
my ride home, I'm on the plane yesterday. I get
home yesterday. I was supposed to live at eight am.
We got out twice. They brought us back two times.
The second time they brought us back, We're about to
take off on the runway and they say we have

to have paramedics come on the plane because one of
the flight attendants is just went down. And I'm like
what And so we had this like ridiculous hour delay
coming back. But I got back late last night.
Speaker 3 (06:45):

Hey, so was the so on Sunday, because obviously Game
seven was on Saturday. On Sunday had the story of
John Baines and his son Matthew made it around Toronto.

So John Baynes is he's a father, Like I forget

you a little background on John. John went to the

game and knew that he was sitting in the outfield.
He brought a dummy baseball with him and shoved it
in his pocket, caught the home run ball that that
Rojas hit and kept it in his glove.

Because it was obviously it's the bottom of the ninth
and the guy just tied the game up or the
ninth inning'd rather excuse me, and he just tied the
game up, and he said it was dead quiet. He
reaches into his pocket, he pulls out the dummy ball,
throws it back onto the field, but he held on
to the Rojas home run ball, and you're like, Okay,
I get it. That's pretty smart. Fast forward now to

the eleventh inning. Will Smith hits the home run that
ends it. John Bain's son, Matthew caught that ball.

Father and swear to god, father and son caught.

Both home run balls, the two biggest home run balls
of the night.

to the flight attend and I said, you are so
much nicer than we are. And she says, you know,

difference between Canadians and Americans, And I said, I know
what the difference is. You're nice and he's last. And

say that about us like we would never. First of all,
we would sue everyone anyone that's tripped on that thing.
We would see anybody someone was going to hit the
thing that retracts the whole thing as a joke. We'd

for you're comfort and enjoy me, We're gonna let you
just use the jetway for fun.

And I will tell you no one accidentally stopped more
hockey pucks than me, Like I was stopping it with

my face, my elbow and every time. And by the way,
when I did stop it and it was accidental, I
turned to my son and was like you see that,
and he's like, you didn't even try for that, like
you that was so obviously not your athletic skill and
just an accident. It's so hard.

one of the greatest places that's on planet Earth. It's

way that baseball is the most interesting to me is

every pitch it's a chess match, right, and every pitch
that's thrown as the pitcher saying what does this batter
think I'm going to throw? And the batter's going what

at me? And there's this chess match going on, and
you could feel in this series the chess match in
real time. And the thing that was so great about
it is everyone was playing at the highest level. You
were watching like every strategic move, pulling this guy so
you can put the pinch runner in, trying to score,
trying to bunch here because you know that this guy's

gonna come next to You've blotted to come up. You
can see and every move had a counter move and
you could see it happening, and no one was making
the wrong moves right. And so you know, last year
it was like done in five. You knew who was
gonna win. Dodgers are going to slaughter them. Year before,
you knew that Texas was gonna you know, it was Arizona.
No offense to him. They just didn't have a shot.
Knew it was coming this one. And the fact that

told me that in that game they were running out
of baseballs. They had three hundred I think he's had
three hundred and six hundred baseballs per game, and they
were running out because the game was going so long.

I flew across the country. I'm missing it by the

first in and says we're coming. They like changed their minds.
They said they were the only Dodgers fans that got

had left already, but they were just like sticking around

you didn't sell your ticket, And he said, I put
it on and no one bought it. And if someone
would have bought it, he would have like come to
Toronto and sold his own ticket and not gotten in.
And since they one bought, he got in and made
it by the fourth inning and got to see the
whole game. So he was amazing, the one guy who
was happy in the stadium.

the sixty one year old John. He caught Miguel Rojas's
home run in the ninth inning. Now, let me give
you a little background on John. John went to the

game and knew that he was sitting in the outfield.
He brought a dummy baseball with him and shoved it
in his pocket, caught the home run ball that that
Rojas hit and kept it in his glove.

While everybody's going like, not nuts.

Because it was obviously it's the bottom of the ninth
and the guy just tied the game up or the
ninth inning'd rather excuse me, and he just tied the
game up, and he said it was dead quiet. He
reaches into his pocket, he pulls out the dummy ball,
throws it back onto the field, but he held on
to the Rojas home run ball, and you're like, Okay,
I get it. That's pretty smart. Fast forward now to

the eleventh inning. Will Smith hits the home run that
ends it. John Bain's son, Matthew caught that ball.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Father and swear to god, father and son caught.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Both home run balls, the two biggest home run balls
of the night.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Both father and son caught one each. It's unbelievable, that's unread.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
I love that story. I have you ever tried to
catch a Have you ever come close to catching a
foul ball in a baseball game?
Speaker 3 (08:41):
I've caught one that bounced and bounced around.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
But by the way I'm talking about like a fair catch.
It is so hard, You're it is so hard. That
is an I love that story. And did they are
they selling? Are they giving it back? What they are
making the trade?

Well, they didn't say anything yet. The last I saw
was I just I was like, I give the dad credit.
He brought a dummy baseball to the game.

By the way. That guy is like a sorcerer, right, like,
he's like have I mean, it's one thing if you
can bring a dummy ball. But I'm like, okay, I'm
gonna do this right. And I saw I'm like I
said to Jonas, I'm like, oh, he threw the ball back.
And I was like, that's, you know, crazy fan, because
that's a that's a pretty valuable ball. Needless to say,
that's why I threw it back. But I love that

He's like, nope, I'm throwing it back to the crowd
has something to do for. But I get the benefit
of this. I mean, that guy is like a mackay
Velly guy.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
The wait, hold on, Tyler just found something, Baines.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
I'm assuming this is the dad joke that he considered
offers before that happens.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
One million dollars.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
For the Rojas ball one point five million for the
smith Ball. But deep down here you go this how
you know they're in Canada. Deep down he knows the
value isn't monetary, But the memories he just shared with
his son's vomit.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
That's what That's what Americans say. We want to say,
we're gonna just discuss about the memories. You know, I
look at that. I mean Americans would be like, this
is on like Southby's right now on the auction side
before they leave the stadium. We've listed it and then
we put like you know, scuff marks to prove it,
and half people say it's fake, like we forget it.

Canadians are like, well, I'm just happy you got to
see the game with your son, and I want I'm
not joking when I when I was on the plane
when the plane was delayed, you know the jetway you
walked down in Canada when the plane was delayed. They're like,
we don't want you to like be cooped up on
the plane, so we're going to close the door to

the airport part. But you guys can all on the
jetway just hang out there and run and like, you know,
play around. Anyone who was a dog with the dog whun.
I have a video of a dogren. And I said
to the flight attend and I said, you are so
much nicer than we are. And she says, you know,
we always talk about it as the flight attends the
difference between Canadians and Americans, And I said, I know
what the difference is. You're nice and he's last. And

I'm like, and I said, no, no, you I can
say that about us like we would never. First of all,
we would sue everyone anyone that's tripped on that thing.
We would see anybody someone was going to hit the
thing that retracts the whole thing as a joke. We'd
sue them like. We would never ever be like, oh,
for you're comfort and enjoy me, We're gonna let you
just use the jetway for fun.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Hey, how long did you at the Hockey Hall of Fame?
Speaker 2 (11:24):
I was sending you pictures from the Hockey Hall of Fame.
I don't know if you have. I fear if you've
been there, because you and I were texting my son
and I went to the Hockey Hall of Fame and
and I texted my buddy Bill Zito, who's the you know,
obviously from the Panthers, and he's like, you want me
to make a call for the Red carper Fiel. I'm like, no, no, no,
because what we were doing when he called me is

they have a thing where you can play goalie and
they shoot pucks at your head and obviously they're nerve
ones and they give you all the gear and you
have to stop it, and there's like a video, so
it's like a you know, an easpoy like hockey thing, right,
And I will tell you no one accidentally stopped more
hockey pucks than me, Like I was stopping it with

my face, my elbow and every time. And by the way,
when I did stop it and it was accidental, I
turned to my son and was like you see that,
and he's like, you didn't even try for that, like
you that was so obviously not your athletic skill and
just an accident. It's so hard.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
By the way, the the Hockey Hall of Fame is
one of the greatest places that's on planet Earth. It's
unbelievable in there. And don't casually just drop my friend
Bill Zito, please.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
Listen, trust me. I love the fact that he's like,
we're gonna call it the Red Car and I'm like,
and what have them hit me in the face with
more nerve tucks? Like it was?
Speaker 3 (12:48):
Now Brett, let me ask you this.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Let me ask you this because you like you started
by saying, you're a pretty big baseball guy, don't you agree?
This series may be one of the best world series
that's played out.

Oh, this is why it's the greatest. Like, so, the
way that baseball is the most interesting to me is
not you know, people think it's slow, think like, oh,
it's because they're looking for home runs and they're like, oh,
I don't see a home run, and you know, if
there's no home run, it must be boring. It's like
every pitch it's a chess match, right, and every pitch
that's thrown as the pitcher saying what does this batter
think I'm going to throw? And the batter's going what

do I think this guy is going to actually throw
at me? And there's this chess match going on, and
you could feel in this series the chess match in
real time. And the thing that was so great about
it is everyone was playing at the highest level. You
were watching like every strategic move, pulling this guy so
you can put the pinch runner in, trying to score,
trying to bunch here because you know that this guy's

gonna come next to You've blotted to come up. You
can see and every move had a counter move and
you could see it happening, and no one was making
the wrong moves right. And so you know, last year
it was like done in five. You knew who was
gonna win. Dodgers are going to slaughter them. Year before,
you knew that Texas was gonna you know, it was Arizona.
No offense to him. They just didn't have a shot.
Knew it was coming this one. And the fact that

went to like almost twenty innings. You know, my son
told me that in that game they were running out
of baseballs. They had three hundred I think he's had
three hundred and six hundred baseballs per game, and they
were running out because the game was going so long.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
That's amazing, and they.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
Were going I'm like, well they go to like a
Dick sporting goods and break in, but like they were
going to get more baseballs. And then you're like, oh,
now the Dodgers are definitely done. They lost that game,
and I was coming back to Toronto and then to
come back like that. It was just a I said,
it was like two heavyweights and just slugging each other
rocket when they're not going down.

I mean, obviously Vladimir Guerrero Junior is the most popular
blue Jay underneath him?

I couldn't even do it. Google the seventh inning stretch
song for the Toronto Blue Jays, and it is like
it is like nothing you ever. I'm like, is this
schoolhouse rock? Like? What is this that they're playing? It
is the most insane like and it gets the crowd
singing like we're singing Sweet Caroline at a Red Sox
game like it is. But it's it's so not an

American song that we would stand for for one second.
It's clearly an old timey song. That is it?

The song, if I'm not mistaken, is okay blue Jays?
Speaker 2 (15:51):
Yeah, it's okay, okay, yeah, something like that. I don't,
I don't. I didn't even hear the word blue Jays
in it, but I guess it is. But it's just
this old I mean, it's it's like the Miami Dolph.
Do you ever other Miami Dolphins song? Like Miami has
a Dolphins, the greatest football team. We take the wall
from Golden Right.

Which they stole from the Houston Oilers. They stole that
from the Houston of course, told it's the.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Houston Oilers song. Of course something they and there was
a point where there was a point where they replaced
it with like fins Up or some new thing that
they wanted for Jimmy Buffett, and the crowd went bananas
and was like, no, we want that old, crappy song back.
And it was clear that like this song. The Blue
Jays were like, we're just happy to have the song.
We're just happy to be here, We just are happy

Well, dude, I'll tell you what, I was very envious.

As great as it was, I love knowing that I
knew somebody in the building.

It was amazing for that game on Saturday night.

Yeah, my buddy who is a Dodgers fan, he flew
he was coming in that day. His flight got delayed.
He left it. He left LA at eight a m.
He flies all the way to Philadelphia for the for
the thing for the connecting flight. He's like, I'm landing
at four. The flight gets delayed, so they put him
on another flight to connect. So he's got I'm landing
at six. They say, sorry, air traffic issues, we can't

get you there. He writes to me and says, I'm out.
I'm gonna be watching this game from a Philly bar.
I flew across the country. I'm missing it by the
last leg, and then I get a text in the
first in and says we're coming. They like changed their minds.
They said they were the only Dodgers fans that got
on the flight. The other Dodgers fans on the flight
had left already, but they were just like sticking around
(17:25):
for god knows what reason. I said, I can't believe
you didn't sell your ticket, And he said, I put
it on and no one bought it. And if someone
would have bought it, he would have like come to
Toronto and sold his own ticket and not gotten in.
And since they one bought, he got in and made
it by the fourth inning and got to see the
whole game. So he was amazing, the one guy who
was happy in the stadium.
