(00:00):
I have a small update on thedog. Yeah, so I guess she
had a And I don't know ifthis is common. I didn't talk to
Jackie. I just got a text. So I guess she had a.
I guess she had a. Idon't. I don't want to call it
mild. But had a reaction, but it doesn't sound like it was major.
(00:22):
But had a reaction to the bloodtransfusion in the middle of the night.
Do you want to catch people uptoday, Yeah, because that was
so No, but but say whathappened? Oh, so last night last
night. I got home from worklast yesterday, and dog was fine,
the small one, Clancy, notthe big one, Vezzy. Dogs were
(00:44):
fine. I got the big greetingI always get. And then somewhere I
can't remember, like the timing isoff, but like somewhere like around five
six o'clock, Clancy got sick andstarted throwing up. No, it had
to be. It had to beright right right before sick, because I
remember Jackie saying the vet our regularvet hospital, like our regular vet,
(01:04):
they're gonna close and so, andshe was texting the vet that works there
that we're friends with one of them. Jackie was texting with him, but
we couldn't get through to him.But anyway, so Clancy started throwing up
in the house, which is reallyunusual, like she's not a big thrower
up her and then and that's fine, whatever dog throws up. So let
(01:30):
her out in the backyard while Jackiecleaned up. I went in the backyard.
But she like her mouth was justlike hanging open, like it's weird.
She was like panting, you said, labored breathing, labored breathing,
but like like her face was likelike just weird looking lethargic, Oh very
much. So, so we broughther sagad yeah no, let me see
(01:53):
that. Yeah no, no,because a huge in vain e'l have me
on Josh's sign or something. Damnit. Anyway, I don't know what
this update is gonna be. Nono, So anyway, tried to give
her some water. She didn't drinkany and then she just laid down in
the backyard but like was and that'snot like her, but like was out.
(02:17):
So anyway, Jackie was like, well this is concerning, so was
that speaking of keeping the mood light? Don't l like that? So anyway,
I had to scoop her up,like she would even go in,
Like she wouldn't get up to goin the house. So I had to
(02:38):
scoop her up and we brought herinside, and once she got inside,
she did drink a little bit ofwater, but then she acted all that
up. So we talked to thevet and they were like, listen,
you could do one of two things. If you think that she'll make it
through the morning like the night, bring her in in the morning. And
if things go backwards, oh youknow what I'm minded of. The other
(03:00):
thing that they said is if Clancystarts wobbling when she walks, take her
in. Yeah, Like okay.So she she drank something and then she
was like laying in the office fora bit, and then she chucked again,
and then Jackie came in because shehad cleaned up again, and the
looked at her her gums and like, dog's gums should be pinkish, right,
(03:23):
they should. They should have likea good, healthy pink color to
them. They look like albino gums, like they were so pale, and
she was really cold. So thatJackie and I were like, Evan,
just take her to the Hope Center. And I like the Hope Center they're
in Vienna. We've taken I feellike every dog of ours has been there.
(03:44):
So anyway, took her to theHope Center and they said, so
that now it's probably like around seventhirty ish. Yeah, I'm trying to
think what time did I have dinnerdelivered? But he eat and Jackie made
a sandwich to eat in the caron the way to the Hope Center.
So anybody, I was worried fromthe telling of the story when we first
(04:05):
signed on today that you were goingto forget that part in the retelling.
But anyway, you so Jackie dropsthe dog off at the Hope Center and
they were like, we'll take herright back for good news is there.
Hope Center was pretty quiet, sothey took Clancy back and they told Jackie,
(04:27):
hey, it's going to be acouple hours and we'll have results.
But hopefully, hopefully we just willsend you home some anti nause of medication.
You'll be fine, and if not, they'll stay over and we'll figure
out what it is. But Iguess they ran these tests, That's what
I'm saying this morning, and Idon't I still don't know what the tests
are. But there were two numbersthat came back on her liver the dog's
liver. Were crazy, Hi,Yeah, there's supposed to be don't quote
(04:50):
me on this, I'm not aveterinarian, but there's supposed to be like
between one and two hundred is likethe normal range, and it's two different
sets of numbers. But on theundeliver both of them for Clancy were in
the two thousand mark, which islike sky high. So they were like,
well, clearly she's not coming home. So they're like, will keep
(05:11):
her overnight whatever, She's going toget a transfusion of blood transfusion during the
during the night, and they weregoing to do like a bunch of tests
and sonograms or whatever or MRIs whateverthey were going to do just to see
because they were afraid of that thebloat that the stomach flip is there is
does she have an obstruction? Likeclearly, if you're yacking water, you're
(05:32):
not getting anything in your system,Like nothing's going down, nothing's going down
the tube. So anyway, thenwe I guess Jackie. The Hope Center
called in the middle of the night, which had to be like around twelve
twelve thirty somewhere right around there, and they gave her a transfusion, and
(05:54):
that was kind of it. Thatwas all I knew, and then nothing
this morning, but Jackie said,so the text update that I got was
the she had a reaction, nota bad one. It doesn't sound like
a bad one. Jackie's text didn'tmake it sound like it's a bad one
to the transfusion. Now the sideeffect of it doesn't sound great. But
it sounds like her eyes got swollenshut oh God, from the or or
(06:18):
really from the but I think that'sJackie made it sound like it's just from
the reaction of the transfusion. Byme, think about it, you're putting
some foreign blood into you still,So like, I don't think the eyes
like swelled out of her head.I think more of the eyelids got really
swollen. So I think they gaveit, like I don't know what the
(06:39):
dog version of benadrill is, butit's probably just benadrill, which seemed to
help. And they said since then, like since they got the eyes taken
care of, is doing okay,And then we were hoping to get another
update around eleven ish somewhere right aroundthere. I don't know what that update
is, hmmm. And the Jackiewent around and like she takes both dogs
(07:06):
in the morning, she takes themfor like a two and a half mile
walk. So she went and tookthe walk to see like because they asked,
like if it if it's something toxic, right, like one of the
things one of the things that theyguess what was the name of the thing
I mentioned this morning, lepper thestanding water with ro liprosis, leperosis what
(07:30):
I don't know, but whatever itis, it's it's a it's a disease
or an illness that a dog canget if they drinks water. That's kind
of still that a rodent has pissedin leptos esis, that's it, leptos
sparrosis, which I guess is contagious. Well, it's not like Jackie can
walk around and take pictures of likethere's a puddle here that may be a
(07:51):
mouse or a rat pissed in.And I guess that really could be any
rodent, squirrel, chipmunk, squirrel, squirrel, yeah, whatever, any
animal. But she on the walk, she was going and looking like maybe
was there like a poisonous mushroom orsomething like that. So she said she
(08:11):
saw some and took a picture ofthem. And sent them to the Hope
Center. But I haven't heard anythinginteresting, so she did that if it's
lat lepro lepro preproosis. If thoseporosis, I don't know what you do
about that. Well, I'll killevery roadent in our neighborhood. Though.
But as I always ask of thosewho are waiting on medical news, let's
(08:37):
wait and see. Oh yeah,no, you can't jump to conclusions,
right. The only thing, well, I need one of two things to
happen. I either need I likeI want Clant obviously, I want Clancy
to be fine. Of course,is I either need her fine and well
enough to come home today or shecan't come home until Friday. This was
(08:58):
the other import and part of thestory. No, because I can't take
her tomorrow because Jackie supposed to seeher parents tomorrow. And I'm not I'm
not when I say I'm not dealingwith it. But then I got to
get up. Then she's got toget up her Friday morning at two am.
She doesn't want that, Oh togo out, Yeah, you go
(09:18):
out and everything. Yeah, wouldn'tshe rather I be able to pick her
up on Friday and that she couldspend all Friday afternoon and evening snuggling me
sounds like a nice plan, yeah, and then sleeping in the bed and
all that. You don't want that, but so ill foremost, well,
I wondered first and foremost. Recoveryis great well recovery slash knowing what what?
(09:43):
What the hell happened? I hatethat. I hate when the dog
gets better but you don't know whatit was sure, and no one's sure
exactly what happened. And then Jackiewas trying to figure out, like not
not if anything's wrong with Vezzi, like she's she's already had the I guess
the shot to keep you the vaccinenot vaccine. I guess it is for
(10:05):
what is it? Leprosis? Yep, but I can't say it. What
is it leptos lefto sparosis. Iguess it's a two shot thing. And
I believe Vezzy has had both.I don't know if Clancy has or not.
I mean, remember Clancy came inon a truck from Mississippi, So
(10:26):
I don't know how old is Clancynow? Maybe a year, right around
a year, yeah, somewhere rightaround there. And I don't know if
Jackie had to explain the scar onher shoulder we don't know what it's from.
And she came that way the damngolf game line one, Hi Ellie
(10:52):
in the morning. Hi uh,this is Mollie and my brother actually had
left us for this last year.Wait, did he get it from the
dogs? No? So he wasin Florida and we're from we're from Virginia,
but we were he was in Florida, like doing yard work, and
he went back to d C wherehe's where he lives, and all of
(11:15):
his organs shut down and he turnedyellow, and nobody knew what was wrong
with him. So they had theybrought in all these medical students to like
do tests and like he was turnedinto like a case for them. How
did he get it? So ifwe think he got it from like he
(11:35):
was doing yard work, like inthe backyard, and we think it's from
an animal who had like peede, and then he had touched it, I
guess, and being the guy thathe is, probably didn't wash his hands.
Okay, well let's not let's notthrow shade please, I would do
that. So so they think thatbecause he was doing They think, because
(11:56):
he was doing yard work that he, like you said, he touched a
puddle or something that a rodent hadpissed in and then got it in his
mouth. I guess I think that'sthat's what they think. They brought it
in like twelve like medical students andwe're all like fascinated and ran a hole
(12:16):
case study. But because think abouthow little that is. Like again,
if you told me, pick anybodywe know, anybody we know dustin,
dustin, if dustin. I'm justusing this as an example of how little.
Like you if you were doing yardwork and you touch some water and
(12:37):
that had rat piss in it orrodent pissed and then you you like were
like, oh, I got somethingin my tooth, that's not much.
If dustin pissed all over my handand I shook it off, and then
I went and like dug something outof my mouth or even just licked my
finger, that's not much. Andit shut down your brother's entire system.
(13:00):
That leprososis is no joke, hiswhole body. They thought he was going
to die, and nobody knew whatwas wrong because they couldn't figure it out
at first because it's not something theytest for regularly. He was like a
week and he's totally fine now.No, Yeah, well, how did
they how do you how did theytreat it? How did they treat it
(13:22):
in him? They gave him likeantibiotics and like they had to give him
fluids and he couldn't breathe. Itwas it was really scary. Yeah,
that sounds bad. All right, very good, very good. I appreciate
it, Thank you man, thankyou. Well that's the other thing,
and again, I don't know whatthe dog has, so I don't know
(13:43):
if it's leptospurosis. People that weresending information. Dogs usually are vaccinated for
that before they even turn a yearold. Oh, I believe that,
But I guess my My thing is, I don't know if that Like I
don't know like when that dog camein through wolf Trap, like Jackie the
(14:03):
wolf Trap Animal Rescue or Animal League, whatever it is, the like that's
Jackie's job. So if if itwasn't, I haven't asked her. If
if Clancy got vaccinated or I don'tknow if it got vaccinated in Mississippi before
it ever got here. I haveno idea. But at some point your
vet would have taken care of that, even after she would have gotten here,
(14:24):
I would think so, right,So it's probably not that, so
what is it? I don't know. That's why wait and see. I'm
wondering about these mushrooms that your wifefound, Oh Jackie. Jackie said she
tried to look them up online, but she doesn't know what she's looking for.
Send him to Margaret. Oh,Margaret him in a soup. That's
(14:46):
how we know. If Colin startsthrowing up, we know it's the mushrooms.
So yeah, I really don't know. So at eleven, I think,
or around eleven, listen. Itrust the people at the Hope Center.
They're great. They've been nothing butgreat, not just with Clancy,
with every dog. You know what, now that I think about it,
(15:11):
every one of my dogs has beenthere. Sadly, yeah, but good
that they're there for when you needthem. I do know that the only
other thing that I think I leftout from this morning is the well I
slept for an hour and a half. But the last twenty four hours has
not been an inexpensive day in theSiegul home. I bet and that I
(15:33):
will take out on the entire family. I know that's not a bad diary.
How you one name that tune today? Yeah? Did that come with
money? No cash? Prize? That ain't gonna pay. Hey, guess
what Hope Center good news? Badnews? Did you hear? I want
good news, bad news, goodnews? I one name that tune today
(15:54):
bad news? Will you accept thatas payment for the dog unit's a fun
units of blood? No? Iremember it's blah line one. Hi,
elliot the morning. Hi, goodmorning. Hey, who's as? This
(16:15):
is Chris Park. I live outby Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. Oh,
yes, sir, what can Ido for you? I just wanted
to let you know I contacted leptosporosisabout I didn't contacting on the phone,
but I was kayaking out on theriver at flood stage and got really really
ill, and believe it came fromthe river. I ended up with close
(16:37):
to one hundred and five degree temperaturefever in the hospital, convaulting. Thought
I was gonna die. It wasterrible and you got it from just being
in the river. Yeah, Iwas kayaking. We do whitewater kayaking out
by Harper's Ferry and it was floodstage. So the best I can figure
(16:59):
out, uh, commercial like chickenfarms and stuff, they can actually legally
dump when it hit certain parts perbillion, and that's kind of where that
those throsis comes from is like animalurine feces. Uh. There was another
guy that's like that same window oftime that week, kayaking down by great
falls that contacted it or contracted it. So does it have to be ingested
(17:25):
or can it just get in throughany orifice? After doing some research,
I think any orifice I've seen whereadventure racers down in like South America and
Costa Rica get it from swimming inlakes sometimes Jesus, But a lot of
times I think it comes from likesomebody working in the animal industry, a
farmer, uh, somebody working forthe vets. And and I don't know
(17:48):
if it can like nasal passages.I would think I did flip over,
so I might have swallowed some orwent up my nose. But it,
I mean, it almost killed me. I was so sick. I was
ripping my it was off. WhenI came to the hospital, I felt
like I was on fire. Heydo they did that and it goes to
work on your organs? Right?I believe so. I mean it was
(18:12):
shutting my whole body down. Ihad extremely high temperature. I had an
infectious disease doctor come in and againI briefly heard what the young lady said
a second ago about it's very hard. It's something they don't really test for,
so they didn't actually, yeah, exactly, they didn't really test me
for it. I had an infectiousdisease doctor. They just filled me up
(18:33):
some like really high dosage antibiotics andthat started, you know, taking me
on the men. But it wasprobably you know, a month or so
wow, before full recovery. Butjust looking at doing some research and a
guy got it downstream by DC atthe same timeframe. I think I got
it from paddling just really dirty water. That's crazy. That's crazy. Hey,
(18:56):
listen, I appreciate the I appreciatethe phone call. Thank you,
my friend. If nothing else,we've learned a lot about leptosporrosis. There's
the proncession now again. I don'tknow. I don't think. I can't
say I don't think. I don'tknow that's what the dog has. I
don't know what the dog has atall. Well, they don't know yea
either, other than swollen eyes andcan't keep anything down. And I need
(19:19):
if the dog's not coming home today, I need the Hope Center to keep
the dog till Friday. Yes,we've got that written down, sir.
A couple of people just wanted tomake sure no tick found on the dog
zero and then the others would likepictures of those shrooms. The responses there
(19:41):
so anyway, I'll know more later. Hopefully I have some good news tomorrow
