Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi is this me? Yes?

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Hi?

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Who is this?

Speaker 3 (00:03):
It's the angry lady living in the shadow of the
massive addition.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Shut up, shut up?

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Yeah, wait, the the one where they're putting in what
looks like yeah in Greenbrier.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Yes, are there more than one? Yes, that is me. Dude.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
We were talking about you yesterday.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Oh yes, I know you and a lot of other outlets.
I can't believe how much this is blown up. The
Okay Daily Mail pay you well, how did they get
to claim that was an exclusive? Wait did they run
a story?

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Yes they did.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
You went international to them yesterday. I talked to them. Well, yeah,
I talked to the dude, but I didn't hear anything
after that.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
So yeah, they were as exclusive. Oh that's not an exclusive.
They also he was.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
The third phone interview I had yesterday. So no, not exclusive.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
So let me ask you this. Let me ask you this.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
So we were talking about your story yesterday, and for
people who weren't with us, you live in the Greenbrier
section of Fairfax in a in a very nice a
frame house, next to next to another person who had
like the from when the neighborhood was built, right, and so,
but your your neighbor has attached on this gargantuan three

(01:19):
story edition that runs all the way down the side
of your house.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
It's a monster.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
And everybody we talked to, we talked to a lot
of your neighbors. The Daily Mail didn't get that.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
We talked to a lot of your.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Lot of your neighbors who were like, Oh, if you
think the drones and the pictures make it look big,
it doesn't even come close to doing it justice as
to how massive that addition is.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
It is so big, and it's like when you walk
out of my front door, it's like you're smacked in
the face with a wall, just a very tall wall,
and it, like you said, it almost all the way
down to the streets, so you can't really see down
to the end of the street. Like if my kid
plays in in you know, in our yard or in

(02:08):
the in the street or down the yard, you cannot
see her. It's just blocked off everything. And I feel
terrible for them, you know, I really do feel for them,
because they're nice people, and it just sounds like they
didn't consider what this might do to the rest of
the neighbors. Unfortunately.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Now, we did have a couple of questions when we
were talking about your story yesterday. First of all, them
solar panels ain't working in the shade, are they.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Well, I'm a little afraid of what's going to happen
in the winter because it does like like you can see,
there's so much shade, it's just a big shadow. We
have been keeping an eye on the output and how
much we're getting. It hasn't been affected yet, so that
is one thing I want to say. My husband swears
to me that it's not being affected by it, but

(03:00):
I don't know. Now that we're getting less sun in
the winter, that might change.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
So you're going to be effected. Trust me.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
There were times during the report I saw you walked
out and there was so much shade I couldn't even
see you.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
I have to wear a head lamp.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Hey. Also, the other thing, somebody else brought this up
because the people whose house it is, they said they
were putting that addition on because they're going to move
three generations of the family into that hotel that they
built that runs next to their house. Just out of curiosity,
Did you tell them that they could park in your
garage or will they just take up the entire.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Street that's parking as a concern.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah, were you Were you friends with these people before
all this started.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Cordial? You know, just we were. They've invited us for
barbecues and things like that. We talk as neighbors, so
it's you know, we're not real friendly, but we're cordial
like we are to all the other neighbors.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
And at no point did they say to you, hey, Courtney,
watch this, wait until you see what we're building.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
No. No, but they said said they were building an addition.
We did not know what. We didn't have any idea
what that could mean in terms of what is now up.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Also, and I pointed this out, is when you look
at the addition, they do have a lot of windows
on the opposite side of your house. On your side,
you're just looking at siding like that's it. You got
a straight wall of siding.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Yeah. I don't know what that design element was all about.
I noticed that too. I don't know. I don't know
what's going to be there and why there's not as
many windows as in other sides.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
You know what, maybe and this and I don't know this.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
I haven't talked to them, but maybe they were like, hey,
you know what, Courtney's not getting any light, Maybe we
shouldn't get it the night.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Right. They yes, that was well thought out on their part,
and then one other, one.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Other question for you, Courtney.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
So I guess the last thing that we saw was
there was some issue with the with the the the
building of the house, and maybe it was too far,
like it's got to be that eight foot variance or
whatever it is, where where? And then everything is paused.
What happens now?

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Apparently they're having a meeting with the county today to
discuss how to move forward. Up until last week, the
county had been and we really placed the onus on
the county for allowing this to get this far to
begin with, and allowing a thirty five foot tall structure
to be built within eight feet of our property. I

(05:52):
mean that was within the zoning right. So so now
they meet with the county to discuss how to move forward.
What I think a guy said yesterday, they either get
a can get a variance which would require all of
the neighbors to sign off on it, or you know,
they have to tear it down. I guess I don't.

(06:14):
I don't really know what happens next. But the county,
up until last week, the County has been telling me
everything is, you know, above board and within the regulations,
and only when the news story broke last week did
we hear that work has actually been paused.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
So when they come to your house tomorrow with that
piece of paper that you need.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
To sign off on, I know, I know good. I'm
guessing you're not going to sign off on that.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
I don't know. They're such nice people and I would
hate for them to have such a financial hardship to
have to redo it.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Coney Courtney, Courtney, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no no. Let me be your husband for a second
and let me slash some sense into you.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
We are not signing that.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
They could be the nicest people in the world, but
they didn't give a goddamn about you when they were
building quote, a thirty five foot structure that runs the
entire length of your property. Here's the outrage the Daily
Mail talked about exactly exactly. You can't do that, Courtney,
You can't do that.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
No, our house is divided. Our house is very divided
because the other two people who live here, my husband
and my daughter, feel very bad for them and don't
want them to have to experience any sort of, you know,
financial hardship. I am on the side that you take
as well.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
And they should sue the county to get some money back. Yeah,
that's on them. That's on them.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
By the way, your house is also divided between darkness.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
And a little bit of light.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Side.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Oh my god, I can't believe. I can't believe that
you would even consider it. I would have gone out
and said listen already, it didn't pass. I can help
you take it down. Do you want me to sledge
hammer it or do you want me to flamethrow it.
I'm happy to help take it down. That's crazy.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
I know it's crazy. It is. The whole thing is crazy.
We really shouldn't be put in a position where we
have to.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
No whether or not I'm with you. So wait, so
the vote. When are you going to the voetings today?
Are you going to the meeting?

Speaker 3 (08:26):
Well, what I understand is our Pat Herody, the Board
of Supervisors is going to bring the topic up as
a board matter today at ten o'clock. I don't think
it's officially being any sort of changes are being proposed today.
I think the meeting that the neighbor is having with

(08:48):
the county is a separate, separate meeting about their specific instance.
Pat Haredy is bringing it up whether or not we
need to change the zoning laws in fair effect.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Oh okay, I understand that.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Well that yeah, that that ain't get me anywhere, all righty,
But I need to be kept up to date.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
I need to be kept up to date.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Well, I don't know what kind of contract agreement you
have with the Daily Mail.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
The Daily Mail. Yeah, let me have my.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Public all right, Courtney, Hold on one second.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
I want to make sure we have your numbers, so
if I need you, I can get in touch with you.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
All right, very good, Hold on one second. Oh my god,
