Speaker 1 (00:00):
May I call you, Timmy? Are we close enough friends
at this.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Point, At this point, after about the fifty five thousand
calls that I got yesterday that I had to call you,
I guess at this point we're at that point where
Timmy probably justified.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Dude, your reach is far and wide. Health, your reach
is far? And why can I say one thing real quick?

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yeah? Sure.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
The last time I.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Was on the radio was nineteen eighty four, and I
won tickets to sixteen candles.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
How about that I got? I won tickets to.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
See candles because I answered a baseball question.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
A wow, of course, right, well, naturally naturally, so, dude,
I was reading, I was reading your story, and the
story is fascinating in that the and listen, I mean listen.
I love baseball, right and as a kid I liked
some baseball cards and football cards and hockey cards and stuff.
But I mean not, not, not like this. What the

(01:07):
first of all to think that, dude, you've got twenty
million baseball cards?

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Yeah, it's you want to know what, It's not necessarily
all baseball, It's it's mostly baseball.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
It's it's pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
It's how I would explain it is that it's the.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Yeah, I mean, it's a huge collection.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
It's really I'm so used to it at this point.
I think when you initially.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Hear about it or.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
See it, it's it's sort of overwhelming. And then you know,
it depends on where you where you lie in regards
to your passion on that you know, on that hobby.
And and I loved it. I absolutely loved it. And
I was blessed and fortunate that that you know that
it happened when it did, and I was in the

(02:00):
right position to, uh to do.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
It, and and I love it.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
I I'm like, I'm like, I'm I honestly get the
morph into my twelve year old self every single day,
which is uh, which is pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Hey, So, Tim, let me ask you this. The and
and I know that the the the family that you
that you purchased the cards from a couple of things.
Number one, you have not said who they are, and
I I could respect that. I could respect that you
haven't said how much you paid for them, which I
would like to know. But did you know and I

(02:31):
guess correct me if I'm wrong, you were introduced to
this family through some kind of tide with your daughter's
soccer team. Or something like that.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah, and I know I don't want to like, I
don't want to get into it too much, but yeah,
that's that's basically how it was.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
They're they were, They're.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Amazing people and and I, uh, the one thing when
I when I did this, I've always wanted to act
their privacy. This is my journey that I'm on, it's
not theirs. And honestly, I didn't know what the journey
was going to be, Like, I didn't even know the
journey I was going to be on. So I again,
I really like to to leave that over there. And

(03:15):
and if they ever want to reveal themselves, that's that's fine.
But but what you read in the paper is is
exactly right.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Yes, I just to me, it's fascinating, and trust me,
I'm not I'm not picking at the scab of them.
But like you, you hear about all these card collectors
and how the sports memorabilia business has gotten so big.
I never for years, who knew that the largest card
collection in the world is outside of Richmond, and it's

(03:42):
just been sitting there silently with nobody knowing. That to
me is crazy.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
So so I got to share this. So this is Ellie,
what you.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Just said was sort of been my narrative is I'm
sitting there and I'm buying cards. I'm buying wax boxes
off of eBay from the early eighties, and I posted
on Facebook. I get the phone call. The next day,
I'm driving and I'm like and at that point all
I wanted to do was just see it. I had

(04:14):
not really completely immersed myself back into into collecting.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
I was really just doing it because COVID.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
I was in between I was selling one of my
businesses and doing some other stuff, and I still had
another business that I was running, So you know, I
was in between stuff and I was really trying to
find my way a little bit and cards. It brought
me back to my childhood, so it was pretty cool again.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
If back to with.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Fifteen minutes, you are right, it is absolutely nuts. I
didn't have to travel to California, I didn't have to
go to Texas, I didn't have to go to Florida,
I didn't have to go anywhere. I got in my car.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
And I drove fifteen minutes.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
You see the largest collection in the absolute world. I
believe that's what I believe, right it is it's almost
unfathomable that that was the case.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
It was so flipping cool.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Hey, So let me ask you this, what is the
like in the stuff that we read in there where
it's you know, ten thousand Jordan cards and six thousand
Kobe cards and like cards that go way back to
like the tobacco card days, where some of them are
just like sheets that are just uncut and rolled up
almost like almost like it's sod. Like what ultimately, what

(05:38):
do you what do you end up doing with these?
I mean, listen, I understand that that there's value behind it.
It didn't in reading about it, it didn't seem like
you were putting together something where you were gonna go,
all right, let me flip this and turn X into
two X or something like that.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
You are you are exactly right, Like I can tell
you this from the jump, And this is just to
let you know. So when I went and saw it,
I came home and my wife was here, and I
literally I walked in the door after seeing it, and
I don't I don't want to sound corny, but I

(06:16):
really want to give you guys the picture. So I
walk in the door and she looks at me and
she says, hey, like, how was it? And I was like,
so I go downstairs into my own little, tiny mini
collection that I have, like literally, you know, I have
some bats on the walls and some autograph balls and

(06:36):
stuff down in the basement. And I walk downstairs and
she follows me, and I go and I sit down
on the couch and guys, I please, I hope you
understand where I'm going with this.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
I started crying. Man, I literally said, this wasn't meant
for me. I was not meant to see this.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Somebody else was meant to see this. I don't know
what to do, Like I don't know what to do.
And literally everything sort of happened really quick after that,
and you know, and again my wife she was like, listen,
you know, if you have a plan and you and
you know what you want to do, I support you, like, like,

(07:19):
do what you do, what you like. And I honestly
got to believe it or not. Where my brain went
right there was I want to find out what's the
largest collection is. I want to call the Hall of Baseball,
Hall of Fame. I want to call ESPN, I want
to call everybody that I can call to understand what's
going on here. And what I have right, and and well,

(07:42):
not what I have, but what this is. And then
everything happened really fast the next day because I got
a phone call another buyer was coming in that was
going to be making an offer, and that's when I
had to I had to make a decision quick, and

(08:02):
I made the right decision. And I thought that it
was it was you know, it was nuts, man.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
It was because it.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Happened so fast and I had no thought that I
was actually going to do it, and I did it.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
By the way, it's probably I mean, listen, who knows,
but it's probably great that it was right up against
the wall where you couldn't try to talk yourself out
of it or try to figure out like is it
worth it or not? It was just I have to
do this, and you did it. I think that's I
think that's awesome.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
So Elliott, literally I get the phone call. I'm calling
my brother to handle the transaction.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
After that, like that's how fast this happened, Like it.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Was literally like an hour, and I'm like, what the
hell did I just do? Oh my god? And I'm
literally sitting there and I'm I'm I'm.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
At that point, I was really I didn't know what
it did. And I was like, oh my gosh, what
am I going to do? How am I going to
do this? And then one of my.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Dear friends calls me that day. His name is Darren Wieder.
He's he's actually mentioned in the in the article. Sure,
and he and I, you know, although I made the purchase,
he and I then partnered up and and and he's like, dude,
just sounds awesome. Let's let's do And then everything was
sort of a whirlwind after that. And and we we yeah,

(09:29):
we found a place and started thinking about how we
were going to move this stuff, and it got it
got pretty uh, it got pretty fun.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Quick, yeah, I will say that, but it also got
pretty real pretty quick. Hey, Tim, I do want to
ask you about something.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
And in the article it talks about it.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
It's not just baseball cards and in basketball cards. I
didn't see a lot of mention of hockey cards, which
I'm disappointed in. But there was something that was mentioned
in there where like like some like autograph Baseball's like
there's some old autograph based that are in there?

Speaker 3 (10:02):
What is there? Sure?

Speaker 1 (10:03):
I can't and listen, I love baseball, right, but I
can't imagine what what is it like to look at
a baseball that was signed by lou gagg.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Well, first and.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Foremost, I don't have a baseball that's signed by lou Gerrett,
so I don't know, yeah that that I have cards
of lou Gereg. What I have is I have autographs
of Willie May's, Mickey Mannle.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
Bob Fellers stand usual.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Uh, I mean I countless, like countless, like like there
there is it's there's so many, but not not lou Gareg.
Now I guess that that must have been confusing, because
I have cards of lou Gereg, I have cards of
Babe Ruth, I have cards of Tay Cob, I have
cards you know, I have uh, you know these cards,

(10:51):
but but no, not an autographic.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Right. Well, then my offer from yesterday is off the table.
I was going to trade you and Elliott The Morning
T shirt for an audio lou Garret baseball, but since
you don't have that, I don't have a T shirt
for you.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
I was just about to say, I was thinking that
you were going to talk me your shirt hanging in
the rafters.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
But no doubt about it, no doubt, but I would
I would love it guys. I really want to say
thank you for having me on this was this was
pretty awesome, man.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
I really do hey, I really do thank you.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Oh absolutely, I do want to do this though the
next time, the next time that we we get down
to Richmond every so often, the next time I'm down there,
I do. I do want to reach out. I would
like even just to come see I've never seen a
lou Garett baseball card like in person in my life.
I would do anything just to come by and see one.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
I would love that one thousand percent your Open Invitation Pal, no,
no doubt about it.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
You know, I try. I'm very very private, even though.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
The article said that I want to promote it like
I do. I do want to share this with the world,
but I gotta tell you, like, in the last three years,
about maybe ten to fifteen people outside of my family
and really close friends have seen it. Like I've tried
to keep it as quiet as possible, because it's you know, yeah,

(12:15):
I mean, it's it's a lot. It's a lot, and
I'm managing another when I'm doing this.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
And so so yeah. So Open Invitation Pal, excellent about.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
It, Timmy hold type one second.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
Let me make sure I have your number and i'll
send you a shirt.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
Okay, Oh you're awesome man, I appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
All right, dude, hold type one second form you please.
How freaking awesome is now? How freaking awesome is that
he is?

Speaker 2 (12:38):

Speaker 1 (12:38):
