Speaker 1 (00:00):
On a scale of one to ten, ranked your ability
as a water skier.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
I've never done it, but I've got a really good balance.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Okay, now that's a zero. Yeah, that's a zero.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
If you've never done it, you don't know you have no.
I I got good balloce, I walk and go fall down.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Yeah. I'm going to rate myself like I would rate.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
I've only gone water skiing less than a handful of times.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
I've gotten up.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Sometimes and have gone on some runs. I'm gonna put
my ability at a one point five. This is out
of said yes. Yeah, like when I get up, I
can go, but sometimes I don't get up, and sometimes
I get up and I don't go.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Long, but like to be to be up and then
like where they are going and I'm not.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
I'm not getting out of the wake of the boat
and doing any of that stuff. I am staying where
I'm If that boat turns and I get out of
the uh, that's not good.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
That's so you know what, I'll give myself a two.
I'll give myself a two.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
It's very honest rating for for you.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
What am I gonna say? I'm a nine? You I wish?

Speaker 1 (01:15):
Yeah, Diane on a scale of one to ten.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Rate your abilities in water skiing.

Speaker 5 (01:21):
Well, that one time I tried it, okay, in the nineties.
I was able to get up once after about five tries,
so I was psyched at that.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
No, right, and that was enough for me. And were
you up for a while? Did you go on a run?
I mean to find a run, like, were you up
for like one hundred yards?

Speaker 4 (01:40):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:41):
No? No, no, no, were you were you? Were you
one foot or no? You were on two? Okay, So
give me your number.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
And how many people were on your shoulders?

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Yeah, so give me was re enacting a Go Gos video?

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Give me on a scale of one to ten. Zero, No,
you you're zero?

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Okay, this is zero.

Speaker 5 (02:02):
He's never even been paid for that one run that
I made point three point three.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Okay, that's fine, Tyler. On a scale of one to ten.
Rate your abilities as a water skier.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
Now, I've also only been one because when we were
out with Dave Ford, we didn't water skier. No, No,
that was weightboarding, that was wakeboard tubing. No, well, we
takes no skill. I couldn't remember if we did water
skiing with him. Also, no, no, we didn't water So
I've only done it with my and uncle. Was once
in Indianapolis or outside Indianapolis. Years in years, I mean

(02:35):
you're talking twenty five years ago.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Okay, did you get up? I did?

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Okay, eventually, Yeah, that's eventually. And it's a great when
you get out. It's a great fee. Oh yes, No,
it's not a great feeling. It is one of the greatest.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
It's euphoric. It is it really is, it really is.
And you go for a little bit. Did you let
go or did you wipe out?

Speaker 4 (02:52):
I honestly I eventually let go. It was like hot,
when does this end?

Speaker 3 (02:57):
And then you sink? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:58):
So but if my skill it's a one, I'm not.
I would not say I'm skilled a water skiing.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
So you're a one, Diane's a point three, I'm a two.
I'm not. I'm probably less than a one.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
I would not feel confident that I could get back
up if I went out today.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Are you better?

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Do you think you're better? At rate your skill level
real quickly? And then I got to get another winner.
Rate your skill level real quickly? If because everybody's in
the boat at driving.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
The boat for other water skiers, I've never done that. Okay,
So I'm gonna put that as a zero. I can
put that as a zero.

Speaker 5 (03:34):
I've driven the boat for tubing, never for water skis.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Tubing is complete. An infant can drive the boat for tubing.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
I'm going to put my my skill as a ski
water skiing boat driver at one point seventy.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Five one point seven five.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
I've never been zero behind the controls of a boat.
I would, honestly, it's probably nigga.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
No, you would be good. You have to gas it.
You got to give it enough gas to get them up,
but not too much.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
That you rip their arms out of shoulders or their
shoulders out of sockets. Kristin, Okay, I've done it. Are
you give me your rating? Give me your rating? What
you say she's thinking that's not high?

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Then? Are you a two? How many times has she gone?
Have you? Can you turn yourself on? Also?

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Will you find me somebody? If you're a decent water skier,
will you call me please? Eight six six to Elliot
hold on Susie eight six six to Elliott eight six
six two three five five.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
Four six eight I need decent water skiers. Please. Hi, Kristen,
good morning. What is your Have you gone a lot?

Speaker 1 (04:48):
No?

Speaker 6 (04:48):
Just when I was younger, right, twelve okay on a
scale of one to ten. Uh, it took me like
four to five times, I think till I got up right,
and then I was up and.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
You get tired.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
No, not if you're doing it right. If you're doing
now after all the time, well, it does pull your
arms out a lot.

Speaker 6 (05:09):
I wouldn't say it was like perfect. I was definitely
under five. I would rate myself under five.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
And what about what about driving the boat?

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Ummm?

Speaker 6 (05:19):
Because you have to give the thumbs up for more speed?

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Okay? That yes, sure, and you just.

Speaker 6 (05:24):
You have to tap. I forget what it's you go to.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
I would say maybe, yeah, okay, you haven't given a number, Kristen.

Speaker 6 (05:32):
Yes, I don't remember if I've done it for I feel.

Speaker 4 (05:34):
Like I have, but it okay, that's Z would score
myself maybe maybe yeah?

Speaker 3 (05:42):
All right? Will you will you find me somebody who
is who is proficient?

Speaker 7 (05:45):
Please?

Speaker 1 (05:46):
At water skiing eight six six to Elliott eight six
six two three five five four six eight.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Here's the reason I ask I met someone this.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
So I went to see my kid at Miami University
this weekend right in Ohio, and I'm talking to.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
This guy, great kid.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
I don't know his name, I know he goes by
line A and he was you know who he's good
friends with piss anyway, he was, so I ended up
talking to him and he's he's a Saint Louis kid,
so I was talking to him and his dad and
he also plays at school. He plays hockey with my kids.
So really nice guy. But then he was also telling me.
I was asking him like, oh, are you into any

(06:24):
other sports like that? Are you doing any other sports here?
And he said, oh, yeah, I'm on the club team
for water skiing.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Huh.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Did you know that schools have number one a club
water skiing team. Number two there are schools that have
NC double A teams for water skiing. I did not
like legit NC double A schools for water skiing, so

(06:57):
like a scholarship sport. Yes, and that like some of
these schools they'll go out And by the way, I
was like, I've never heard I've never heard anybody say
that they are a club water skier, right, And he's like, oh,
you would be shocked at the number of schools that
have water skiing, And he was going through all the
schools like there was some tournament that he didn't go to,

(07:20):
but there was some tournament going on Wisconsin, Nebraska, Miami,
and I was thinking he was going to say, all
like Florida and Arizona and stuff like that, but it's
all schools that have lakes.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
It's ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
And then he said, then you have the big programs
that have actual water skiing where they will go recruit
kids from overseas who are really good and bring them
in for water skiing.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
It's a big squad here. I'm looking at their website.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Yes, and so there's three disciplines slalom where you have
to like swerve out touch the buoy out touched the
booye tricks where you have to be able to like
turn around and stuff like that. And then jumps. So
I asked the kid. I was like, line ay, how
long you jump? He goes, well, keep in mind, I'm
just a club water skier. Like he's from Saint Louis,

(08:14):
but like his family from time to time would go
to Lake of the Ozarks and go water scan.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
He's like, my longest jump is fifty two feet. It's like,
you gotta be f and kidding me.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
That's really far. That's what I said, like, how big
is the ram?

Speaker 3 (08:29):
I have no idea? Fifty two feet? And are you
ready for this?

Speaker 1 (08:34):
All of these I can't say all of these programs,
but according to him, all of these programs have their
own boat.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
And then there are people whose job.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
It is like you have water skiers, but people who
also drive the boat like students.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
It says they ski behind a Mastercraft pro Star, which
obviously we all know what that was fantastic.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
I mean what else would you just keep behind? Look
at the side so that grew.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
So were they at regionals this past weekend?

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Yeah, some of the team was there.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
Line A wasn't because it says regionals, here we come.
But that's their last post on Instagram.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
Yes, I believe regionals was this week. Oh wait, they
do have a story here.

Speaker 4 (09:13):
Oh see, that's just that's just I don't know what
that means, because last week you told me PEB stands
for something else.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
It's just starting us off with the PB.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
I don't know what Rachel's starting us off with PEB.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
I don't know what that means. There's Rachel, that's Maggie.
Oh sorry, Maggie. A lot of bikinis the well, what
do you want me to ski in Long John's.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
I didn't know if they had to wear like a
one piece you know down this is this is club.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
I don't know what. I don't know what, like an
n C double a uniform would be.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
Wearing like a wetsuit. I don't know if that's what
unless you just wear the bikini on the side.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
There's the Oh my god, Oh that's a legit jump
that in the Ohio.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
I don't even know where that is where we're regional Talawan. Oh,
this is from region. Look at the jump, Diane. Diane,
Well wait it's right here. It comes. Yeah. Watch that's
the jump.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Oh my god, ninety five feet for Jimmy Bowling crushing Jimmy.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Oh, her butt's eating her bikini. That spirit's up. How
leave this kid? Whoa one hundred and three feet for
Drizzy Rizzy? Yeah, drizzy ate it. Look at that. He's
started us off with some peb Wow. Isn't that awesome?

Speaker 4 (10:31):
And it says you can join this without any experience. Yeah,
if you're jumping, I feel like you've done it before.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
Just pull me up that ramp. Just wait, go back?
Who is that hello, Charlotte? Oh, first place? I get it,
you get it.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
There was a shot of her just standing there with
the medal.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
Yeah, Drake peebe he finished fifth place. Mends. Look at
that in that awesome.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
They won third place overall and they were the Spirit
Award winners.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Yeah, right on. You know why because that is a
drink in town with the college problem. Look at them.
Go does Radford have a water ski team?

Speaker 5 (11:03):
I looked up they did have a wakeboard club, But
it looks like that. It looks like that went away.
I'm twenty sixteen. I don't know if people graduated and
it just fell off for will.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
But I mean, think about it.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
All the schools that have rowing clubs and and like
regattas and stuff like that, why wouldn't they have what
like does I bet Georgetown has one?

Speaker 3 (11:21):
I don't think so. Dude, you go pull him out
in the middle of the Potomac listen, or the title.

Speaker 4 (11:25):
Base crew is massive at Georgetown. Yes, they don't think
we have a water skiing team. You don't know, true,
but I never heard of it.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Many years since I've been there, I've never heard of any.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
I don't know if Tennessee does. I have no idea
until I met that if I wouldn't have met this kid.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
Line A.

Speaker 4 (11:43):
He me, what are you saying, line space A, I
don't know that's at all one word, that's what they
call him.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
I have no idea what his real name is. Yeah, Line,
I told you he was stand next to piss. Uh
we know why he's called piss. You've told us that
you're in Yeah, this his last night. That'll never not
be fun. But yeah, no, I was talking.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
I was talking to Will and Xander and all them,
and we were sitting around and so I was talking
to him and his dad and they're from Saint Louis.
So I was telling him all about Bigsie being from
Saint Louis, and he was like, I play hockey with
with with my kid on.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
Thet at Miami. I was like, sweet, that's awesome. And
he's like, yeah, I'm also on the water skiing team.
I was like, shut your mouth. Never even heard of it.
Never even heard of it.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
Line three, that's a scholarship, not not for the Miami team,
but some schools. That's a scholarship program.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
Hi, Elly, in the morning, this is Andrews from Alexandria.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
Hey, what's going on, dude?

Speaker 2 (12:44):
I just head into work. But I heard you guys
talking about water skiing, and I'm actually from Williamsburg area,
so I've been waterskiing for almost thirty years, whether it
was on the Chickahamitie River or James River or York River.
So it's actually not that hard once. Obviously you get
used to it, though, but you can start off two

(13:07):
skiing there. Usually there's like a little piece of rope
crazy enough that attaches the two skis for the beginner
skiers who are six or seven years old to get
used to the boat slowly pulling up.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
That's smart there, But.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
To other callers point, yeah, you definitely got to make
sure that when you're done, you throw the rope in
you slowly just slide back into the water. If not,
it looks, you know, like a bit of a show.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
Hey, let me ask you this though, Like you grew
up water ski sounds like you're pretty proficient at it, right.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
Oh, yeah, did you do it in college?

Speaker 2 (13:48):
I actually did not do it in college. I would
have been nice to do it in college, though, But
I've fallen skied, gone outside the wake, you know, literally
when the boat's turning around, I've gone, you know, outside
the way. Whether it's on two skis, are on slollent team,
and you can get up to about easily almost thirty

(14:08):
miles an hour. I once had a family member who
got a little bit too aggressive. They've they've been water
skins for the majority of their life, and they actually
wiped out and functured along crazy enough. So we actually
had a Yeah, we had to uh, we had to

(14:31):
literally get him onto the boat and rush him to
the hospital though, But luckily he was all right, Like
I said, just a punctured lung. That's being more serious
than that.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
Hey, so let me ask you.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
Did you even know that water skiing exists as either
a club sport in college or as a as an
NC double a sport.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
No I did not, But that's that's that's great though.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
I'm glad. Yeah, that is great. Hey, thank you sir.
That's unbelievable. Oh wait, is that the club tea?

Speaker 1 (15:00):
Wait?

Speaker 3 (15:00):
Let me, I don't know when this photo's from. Oh
never mind.

Speaker 4 (15:05):
A lot of tamlines, a lot of tam le the lines.
They're also nineteen years old.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
Well I meant, like you know through those eyes.

Speaker 4 (15:15):
So their collegiate team was founded in nineteen eighty six.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
Oh my, God. But it's as.

Speaker 4 (15:21):
Interesting from their website says, whether slaying Booie's jumping over
one hundred feet, mastering tricks behind our pro star, our
athletes put in the works the compete with the best.
We also consistently rank as the top recipients of the
Spirit Awards, so that must be very important. The show
meanship right to this of not just the skill level,

(15:45):
because they're really touting how they keep winning those medals
as well.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
Hey, everybody's happy. Who wouldn't be you're living on the water.
So I did ask line though. I was like, like,
after you graduate, what do you do with that? And
he's like nothing, Like I'm not going to do it
anything with it. The and I mean, I don't know
when is the last time there was like a water
skiing show somewhere.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
Those are all canceled and gone. So it's not like
you go on.

Speaker 5 (16:11):
Sea World ones they used to have.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Those are canceled. Those are done.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
Yeah, there's no there's there's like there's nothing after college.
So it's not like you could go on and say like, yeah,
I'm gonna go ski at like didn't Amusement parks used
to have like like water ski like water skiing shows.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
Yeah, those are all dead. I mean there may be.
When is the last time you saw other? Okay, Diane
gave you the Go Gos video.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
Other than that, there's no water skiing shows anywhere anymore.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
Where am I going mine for?

Speaker 1 (16:39):
You know who used to love a water skiing show
at the at a at an amusement park.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
My dad, he did. Oh, he loved a water skiing show.
This says.

Speaker 4 (16:47):
In twenty twenty four, Lego Land ended its long running
this water ski show due to evolving consumer preferences.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Oh nobody cared about it exactly, meaning glasses in the seats.

Speaker 4 (17:01):
So that was their Their last show was a year ago,
December thirtieth.

Speaker 3 (17:06):
How empty were those bleachers. I'm sure people went because
for the last oh.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Yes, but for the years leading up to it, they
would go out there and bust their ass and there
would be like one person trying to beat the sun
who was like sitting under the overpass vaping, and that
would be it for water skiing.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
This says.

Speaker 4 (17:26):
Being able to ski at Cypress Gardens was like being
able to pitch at Yankee Stadium, except.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
If I'm wrong, I think they still pitch at Yankees.
I look at them, Look at them, Diana.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
Could we do that?

Speaker 1 (17:45):
No, not as a pyramid, but could we do it
where we're all in, not with our feet the no,
not that, No, no, no that.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
Can we do that?

Speaker 2 (17:56):
No?

Speaker 4 (17:56):
Yeah, that's like the Blue Angels.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
They're steeing close to each other. Hi, yore in the morning.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Hi.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
Hi, who's this? Hi? Hi?

Speaker 4 (18:09):
This is Sinny.

Speaker 8 (18:10):
I'm on the train head in the DC. I'm from
Suburna Park.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Did you want to everybody on the train what your
what you're rating is as a water scor? Oh?

Speaker 8 (18:19):
God, I know.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
I was.

Speaker 8 (18:21):
I called a while ago. I was in my car Stelza.
It is a little awkward, but I'll try to be
quiet because I hate it when people talk on the train.
But I was a strong because I started seeing on
the Severn River near Annapolis about I don't know, thirty five.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
Oh damn it, you're cutting out, you're cutting out. I
hope you're still on the river. Yes, ma'am, Yes, ma'am.

Speaker 8 (18:43):
They were on the river. And then we joined a
private club and I became a three event skier, which
I hasn't heard you talk about yet. So that was
solemn trick.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
And yeah, that's what That's what I was talking to
this kid at at Miami about.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
They No, that's.

Speaker 8 (19:00):
Okay, Okay, there you go. I missed that part a
right way. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
Let me tell you what a good listener I am
for slalom where you have to go out and get
the booies as the as it gets harder, they speed
up the boat and shorten the rope.

Speaker 8 (19:12):
Yes, yeah, it's hard, hard, Absolutely, it is hard. Women
don't have to go quite as fast as as men,
and the young young boys have to go thirty six
miles an hour Jesus, and the line gets shorter and shorter.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
Hey, did you did you water Did you know that
you could water ski in college?

Speaker 2 (19:32):
I did?

Speaker 8 (19:33):
Yeah, definitely, yeah, because there were kids that were skiing
in our club that were super competitive, making it all
the way. I made it to nationals once, but they
were making it on a regular you know, like they were.
It was kind of like golfing for girls and things
like that that it's like such an obscure sport. I'm
so I'm so glad to hear it's still around them.

(19:53):
People are still doing it. By the way, so much
time we have to get up at six am and
go skiing.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
That water is a little chili.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
By the way, if I would have known, If I
would have known, I would have pushed my kids into this,
you know what, like, yeah, get a free ride.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
To go to school, like I don't know what.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
Thank you, ma'am, thank you. I appreciate it. I don't
know what schools have like NC DOUBA programs. But you
go to school because you're a water skier. That's awesome.

Speaker 4 (20:21):
We ever sent some information about Cybersgardens and what is that? Well,
that's that's where that's where we are required it. Yeah,
at one point, but apparently this person was disappointed that
we didn't know. It's the water skiing capital of the world.
Many celebrities and dignitaries have skied and visited the park,

(20:41):
including this will be good, King Hussein of Jordan, oh
and Elvis Presley.

Speaker 3 (20:49):

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
