Now, I've also only been one because when we were
out with Dave Ford, we didn't water skier. No, No,
that was weightboarding, that was wakeboard tubing. No, well, we
takes no skill. I couldn't remember if we did water
skiing with him. Also, no, no, we didn't water So
I've only done it with my and uncle. Was once
in Indianapolis or outside Indianapolis. Years in years, I mean

I've driven the boat for tubing, never for water skis.

Tubing is complete. An infant can drive the boat for tubing.

four to five times, I think till I got up right,

arms out a lot.

Here's the reason I ask I met someone this.

So I went to see my kid at Miami University
this weekend right in Ohio, and I'm talking to.

This guy, great kid.

I don't know his name, I know he goes by
line A and he was you know who he's good
friends with piss anyway, he was, so I ended up
talking to him and he's he's a Saint Louis kid,
so I was talking to him and his dad and
he also plays at school. He plays hockey with my kids.
So really nice guy. But then he was also telling me.
I was asking him like, oh, are you into any

other sports like that? Are you doing any other sports here?
And he said, oh, yeah, I'm on the club team
for water skiing.

Huh.

Did you know that schools have number one a club
water skiing team. Number two there are schools that have
NC double A teams for water skiing. I did not
like legit NC double A schools for water skiing, so

like a scholarship sport. Yes, and that like some of
these schools they'll go out And by the way, I
was like, I've never heard I've never heard anybody say
that they are a club water skier, right, And he's like, oh,
you would be shocked at the number of schools that
have water skiing, And he was going through all the
schools like there was some tournament that he didn't go to,

but there was some tournament going on Wisconsin, Nebraska, Miami,
and I was thinking he was going to say, all
like Florida and Arizona and stuff like that, but it's
all schools that have lakes.

It's ridiculous.

And then he said, then you have the big programs
that have actual water skiing where they will go recruit
kids from overseas who are really good and bring them
in for water skiing.

It's a big squad here. I'm looking at their website.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Yes, and so there's three disciplines slalom where you have
to like swerve out touch the buoy out touched the
booye tricks where you have to be able to like
turn around and stuff like that. And then jumps. So
I asked the kid. I was like, line ay, how
long you jump? He goes, well, keep in mind, I'm
just a club water skier. Like he's from Saint Louis,

but like his family from time to time would go
to Lake of the Ozarks and go water scan.

He's like, my longest jump is fifty two feet. It's like,
you gotta be f and kidding me.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
That's really far. That's what I said, like, how big
is the ram?

Speaker 3 (08:29):
I have no idea? Fifty two feet? And are you
ready for this?

Speaker 1 (08:34):
All of these I can't say all of these programs,
but according to him, all of these programs have their
own boat.

And then there are people whose job.

It is like you have water skiers, but people who
also drive the boat like students.

It says they ski behind a Mastercraft pro Star, which
obviously we all know what that was fantastic.

I mean what else would you just keep behind? Look
at the side so that grew.

So were they at regionals this past weekend?

Yeah, some of the team was there.

Line A wasn't because it says regionals, here we come.
But that's their last post on Instagram.

I looked up they did have a wakeboard club, But

I'm twenty sixteen. I don't know if people graduated and
it just fell off for will.

All the schools that have rowing clubs and and like
regattas and stuff like that, why wouldn't they have what

Base crew is massive at Georgetown. Yes, they don't think
we have a water skiing team. You don't know, true,
but I never heard of it.

Many years since I've been there, I've never heard of any.

until I met that if I wouldn't have met this kid.

to him and his dad and they're from Saint Louis.

Saint Louis, and he was like, I play hockey with
with with my kid on.

he's like, yeah, I'm also on the water skiing team.

Line three, that's a scholarship, not not for the Miami team,
but some schools. That's a scholarship program.

I just head into work. But I heard you guys
talking about water skiing, and I'm actually from Williamsburg area,
so I've been waterskiing for almost thirty years, whether it
was on the Chickahamitie River or James River or York River.
So it's actually not that hard once. Obviously you get
used to it, though, but you can start off two

skiing there. Usually there's like a little piece of rope
crazy enough that attaches the two skis for the beginner
skiers who are six or seven years old to get
used to the boat slowly pulling up.

To other callers point, yeah, you definitely got to make
sure that when you're done, you throw the rope in
you slowly just slide back into the water. If not,
it looks, you know, like a bit of a show.

Hey, let me ask you this though, Like you grew
up water ski sounds like you're pretty proficient at it, right.

Oh, yeah, did you do it in college?

Speaker 2 (13:48):
I actually did not do it in college. I would
have been nice to do it in college, though, But
I've fallen skied, gone outside the wake, you know, literally
when the boat's turning around, I've gone, you know, outside
the way. Whether it's on two skis, are on slollent team,
and you can get up to about easily almost thirty

miles an hour. I once had a family member who
got a little bit too aggressive. They've they've been water
skins for the majority of their life, and they actually
wiped out and functured along crazy enough. So we actually
had a Yeah, we had to uh, we had to

literally get him onto the boat and rush him to
the hospital though, But luckily he was all right, Like
I said, just a punctured lung. That's being more serious
than that.

Did you even know that water skiing exists as either
a club sport in college or as a as an
NC double a sport.

athletes put in the works the compete with the best.
We also consistently rank as the top recipients of the
Spirit Awards, so that must be very important. The show
meanship right to this of not just the skill level,

because they're really touting how they keep winning those medals
as well.

after you graduate, what do you do with that? And

private club and I became a three event skier, which

for slalom where you have to go out and get
the booies as the as it gets harder, they speed
up the boat and shorten the rope.

don't have to go quite as fast as as men,
and the young young boys have to go thirty six
miles an hour Jesus, and the line gets shorter and shorter.

you could water ski in college?

Yeah, definitely, yeah, because there were kids that were skiing
in our club that were super competitive, making it all
the way. I made it to nationals once, but they
were making it on a regular you know, like they were.
It was kind of like golfing for girls and things
like that that it's like such an obscure sport. I'm
so I'm so glad to hear it's still around them.

time we have to get up at six am and
go skiing.

By the way, if I would have known, If I
would have known, I would have pushed my kids into this,

We ever sent some information about Cybersgardens and what is that? Well,
that's that's where that's where we are required it. Yeah,
at one point, but apparently this person was disappointed that
we didn't know. It's the water skiing capital of the world.
Many celebrities and dignitaries have skied and visited the park,

including this will be good, King Hussein of Jordan, oh
and Elvis Presley.

This is Kirsen and Fredisburg. I'm not I grew up
water skiing similar to the first guy, but never competitive
or anything. But I do have a cute story if
you want to hear it. Yeah, sure, So when I
was in high school. I got my hair perm so
I'm dating myself. After you get your hair perms, you
can't get it wet for a couple of days. I
went water skiing the day I got my hair permed

and didn't get my hair wet.

glided down into the water. Never got my hair wet.
