The tour is going strong and New Found Glory is having a great time with The Offspring and Jimmy Eat World!

Jordan and Cyrus joined me for a fun conversation where we complained about the humidity, how it's a high energy rock show all night, our favorite songs from The Offspring and Jimmy Eat World, the new song "100%" with more music coming soon, doing a video at the wrong time, working on the Disney Pop Punk covers album and other soundtrack songs they love, New Found Glory & The News, supporting the American Cancer Society with Cymbals For Change (cymbalsforchange.band) and we're sending our love to Chad Gilbert!

Big thanks to Jordan and Cyrus for a great interview. "100%" is out now and there's more music on the way, keep a watch out for that. And go see New Found Glory with The Offspring and Jimmy Eat World on tour!

Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Mike Jones DC one on one. We're here at

(00:02):
Jiffy Lube Live for Night two of DC one on
one Summer Camp with Jordan and Cyrus from Newfound Glory.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Hi boys, Hello, Hello, thank.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
You for coming over here. For braving the eight thousand
percent humidity today.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
We are originally from South Florida, so we're used to
sixteen thousand percent humidity.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
This is probably nothing. This is like a normal whatever
day for you guys right now. I don't know it
still mean enjoyable.

Speaker 4 (00:24):
I mean, I'm a whust now because I moved to
California like twenty five years ago, so I'm not used
to it anymore.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
But once you get out on the road again, it's
like old times.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
I'm sure it is. Yeah, of course. Well, guys, you're
on the road right now.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
We got the show tonight with you and Jimmy World
in the Offspring.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
How's the tour been going so far?

Speaker 4 (00:42):
So far, it's been great, awesome, Like we have so
much we have so little responsibility on this tour.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
You're not supposed to admit that.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
It's great, man, Like, it's so fun. We get out
there and the crowd's pumped, you know, and it's just
the three of three bands and it's a great night.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Yeah, And it's a you know, it's a dream lineup
for us and probably most of the people coming to
this show. We have obviously been fans of and respected
both Jimmy World and Offspring our entire career, and you know,
it's just insane to be on tour with them. They
are great people. Like Jordan said, it is just get
to the point we get out there, we rock. Everybody's
already ready for it, and the show just does not
stop until Offspring is done. And it's just one hundred

(01:22):
percent energy the whole time.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Get out there, have a good time, and that's what
the night's all about, exactly. And I feel like backstage,
like you said, Cyrus, like the three bands, like you
guys gel together so well. Is it already a big
family backstage with everyone totally now.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
It is the probably the biggest family I've ever seen,
because Offspring is not a small band. No, you know,
the band themselves of a handful of people, but the
amount of crew and everything, but everybody, we're all pros
and just work well together and everybody knows they're their
place and there is no drama, nothing to worry about.
I mean, this show runs so smoothly for being such
a massive production.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Do you guys have a favorite song from the Offspring
and Jimmy World, Like, is there one you love seeing
every night?

Speaker 4 (02:02):
I would say for me, you know there? So I
was talking to Rick, the bass player of Jimmy World,
and they're not gonna play it, but it's a It's
such a random song too, It's like kind of obscure.
It was on a split seven inch with a band
called Jay June okay, and I can't remember the stupid
name of the song, and he couldn't remember it either,
So it's.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Not just me.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
If he doesn't remember the song, They're probably not gonna play.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
The songs written.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
They're not, but it's such a great song, and I'm
hoping that they'll do it for like sound check or
something one day.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Nice.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Yeah, I mean, Jimmy World is definitely much like us.
I wish that all of our bands could play two
hour long sets. So there are a lot of songs
that Jimmy World's is not playing that I wish they would.
I absolutely love is Futures, the first song off the record. Yeah, Future,
I mean It's one of the thickest opening tracks ever.
Offspring is one of those bands that going into this tour,
I was like, oh, I should probably like relearn their catalog.

(02:49):
And you go and you put on some random, you know,
playlist that has all Offspring.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
And Jimmy Offspring song. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
I mean, but you start to shuffle and you're just like,
I forgot about this. This is such a banger. And
it's like every every song they put out is.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
So huge, and you know, it's like they play live
and you're like, yeah, I know some of their songs,
and you watch them play and you know every single.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Yeah, you know the entire set list.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
You're like, wow, I know all the Offspring stuff here
from the beginning up until now too.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yes, now again, it's such a great show to be
able to see all of our bands and the sets
that we have and whatever time that we have, and
I mean, you're really just getting everything the best out
of all of us when you come to the show.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Well, we talked about their music, Let's talk about your music, guys,
because Newfound Glory, you guys just put out the new
song just recently one and I feel like there's gonna
be more coming.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Yes, Oh, definitely.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
We actually just finished a music video for our next single,
which we will not with you know that yet. You'll
tell us soon, yes, but yeah, we have a whole
record that we're we're done with and we'll be released
later okay. And yeah, songs coming and we're super excited
for this next chapter of Newfound Glory. A lot of
it is like one hundred percent where it's very much riffage,

(03:58):
if that's a word. Yeah, and you know, awesome melodies.
You just it makes your head move or you you know,
just makes you want to kind of get out there,
have energy when you listen to it, and that's what
our band's all about.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
How do you have time to do a music video
on the road though we literally we did it during rehearsal,
did you really Okay?

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Like one of the days our crew.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Was not too happy with us because we're like, by
the way, we're gonna fly in and we're gonna need
music video. So all the gear that you're supposed to
be working on making sure it works, we're gonna pull
it into a soundstage and just record, you know, like
do a music video to it. So you have one
day less to.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Like, yeah, yeah, sorry guys, but the video still needs
to happen. It still needs to happen. Also, I wanted
to ask about the Disney Pop punk album you guys
were part of You did part of your World. Ye
love that cover and everything. How do you get to
work with Disney like that? That's just it was so
random but very cool that they let it happen. Really cool,

(04:50):
they let it happen. They they approached us. Actually yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Mean it's literally like what you said, It was so random.
They hit us up and said we're gonna do this record,
and we're like, why is Disney hitting us up to
do a record? But yes, of course we will, and.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
Then you know, we ended up being track one.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Yes. Wow.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
I mean, if you're gonna start it, start it with
the guys that are movie soundtrack cover bro.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
Man, we love movies and doing the covers. It's always fun.
You know, we're gonna be We're gonna be a wedding
bar mitzvah band. I think that I'm like, this is done.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
That's true because we got a career.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Yeah, you know, when they hit us up, I think
my first thought was we're about to get in trouble
for our cover of let It Go from Frozen that
we were at least a few years back, and I'm like, oh, no,
you know they finally found out. Yeah no, but they
said they wanted us to do a part of your
World and yeah, that track was awesome. Once again, with
most of our covers, it's we try to take a
song and see if we can New Found gloriate and

(05:39):
basically just add all the elements that make us us.
And we were able to do that. And I hate
to say it, I hate to admit it, but it
does feel nice to say that was a number one album.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
It was a number one out yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Yeah, so not to brag number one of it, the track,
number one album, all about being on the top for
Newfound Glory.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
Now, you guys were saying about your other soundtrack covers.
You've done three album Wait do we say EP or album?

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Well one was the EP, Yeah, I guess two techniques.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
I don't know, I don't know where you just a
lot of songs on them? Yeah both?

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Yeah, Okay, so they EEP albums that you guys did,
Which of those songs are your absolute favorites to do?
Because I'll tell you while you're thinking about that. Whenever
there's a Karate Kid anniversary, I'll put on the Glory
of lovel on DC Bottle one or Back to the
Future does turn forty and I played Power of Love.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
Man, I will rock those every day of the week.
I love them so much. Yeah, man, thanks. Yeah, Power
of Love was for sure a fun one to do.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Yeah, and that was cool when we played it live.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
You know, a lot of these songs, just like our
regular songs, you record them and they kind of have
one character or energy or vibe, and then you bring
them to stage and it's a whole nother story. And
so Power Love is one of those songs we recorded.
It was fun to record. I the Tiger as well
is fun to record, but then you bring it on
stage and it really comes to life. Yeah, those songs
are great. I do like some of the tracks off
of From the Screenia Stereo Part two.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
Yeah, have a lot of guests on there.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Yeah, the promise is great. That song Kenyan Wish Will
Thinking is actually one of our top that's great.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
That's so great, but it's such a good song.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
And Patrick from Fallo Boys sang on it too. That
was like one of the guests and then what was
the other one you just mentioned promise ye Chris chrisper
on that one.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Yeah, well, you guys, if you can, once this new
album's done, which is coming sometime soon, please do another
movie soundtrack album.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
I love those so much. I think there's so much fank.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
You one little tidbit about the power of love?

Speaker 2 (07:26):
Actually, please please.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
Shawn Sean Hopper, the original keyboard player from Huey Lewis
and the News, heard our version and said that we
played it exactly how it should be played, and he's
heard other bands try to do it and they don't
play it the right way. And now he like comes
and hangs out with us, and like all the time
Glory in the News is awesome.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
I love that he's awesome. Sorry, So I want to
ask before we wrap this up. Symbols for Change. I
saw you doing this charity thing, and it's really cool
that you guys are benefiting the American Cancer Society.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Can you tell us more about that?

Speaker 3 (07:58):
Yeah, I was just approached by one of the guys
from that company, who actually is like a production manager
excuse me, at a venue in LA told me about
the idea they take a cracked symbol from a drummer
and instead of you just tossing in the trash or
giving it back to the symbol company, they will cut
out jewelry or whatever design you want. And so yeah,
we took one of my cracked crashes, cut out some

(08:21):
necklaces and earring pairs, sold them. Always a charity component,
so we did go to the American Cancer Society. I'm
happy to announce that we raised i think over twenty
five dollars. That's awesome for the American Cancer was a
girl wearing them yesterday. Yeah, and that's the other cool thing.
People obviously come up and they talk about it. I
think some people have a personal connection because they try
to describe where the symbol was used. And for us,

(08:43):
it was used on our Catalyst twentieth anniversary tour from
last year. And yeah, just a great idea and it
was a really cool thing to be a part of.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
I'm going to post that up with our interview and
everyone could check that out on Instagram.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
At Newfound Glory.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
And I want to ask too before we get out
of here, how's Chad doing. What's going on with him
at the Nashville show. Great to see him out there.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
On stage. Yep, yep.

Speaker 4 (09:02):
Yeah, it's it's it's up and down.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
Some days are good, some days aren't.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
But he's like, you know, he's crazy, dude, he's.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
A soldiering on.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
Yeah, you have a beast beast mode all the time.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
So he was at that Nashville show a few days
ago and then as of yesterday's back in treatment and
just you know, carrying on fighting his fight. He's trying
to make it to any of these Offspring shows he can.
There is another one in sight targeted for him if
he can. A lot of it is how he feels
that day when he wakes up. So yeah, it's tough,
but we have a really good extended family, newfound family

(09:34):
if you want to call it, with people that are
helping us out on the road. We have Dan from
the band four your Strong playing guitar right now. We
also have Dave from Real Friends, Zach from Motion City soundtrack.
All these people We've to a lot of friends. Yeah,
and everybody at the drop of a dime we come
not to help.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
And that's cool because a lot of people have offered
their services to like Dave from Some forty one has
said I'll play guitar.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Anytime Kevin from Dana has played played with us.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
It's really cool. It's cool.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
The support, Yeah, that's awesome. Everyone's looking out for each other.
That's what it's all about, you know. And we appreciate
you asking about Chad. Absolutely, he feels the love. He
feels the support from the fans every single day. We
always find time in our set to give a little
shout out to him to make all these people aware
of what he's going through.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
And yeah, of course, very cool.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
While Newfound Glory, you guys have the new song one
hundred percent out there. New album's coming soon, lots more
fun covers than everything, and if everyone can check out
again symbols for change. Check that out at Newfound Glory
on Instagram see what it's all about. And I bet
you're gonna do more of those down the road, so
I will try. Yes, that's very cool. Well, guys, thanks
so much for hanging out here at DC one on

(10:36):
one summer camp night too.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Appreciate it, Thank you, thank you. See Yeah,
