Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Watchdog on Wall Street podcast explaining the news coming
out of the complex worlds of finance, economics, and politics
and the impact it we'll have on everyday Americans. Author,
investment banker, consumer advocate, analyst, and trader Chris Markowski.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
So Inflation wid Series Edition. I'm very happy, very happy.
My New York Yankees are going on to the World
Series and they're going to play in Los Angeles Dodgers.
So again, this is perfect for Major League Baseball. They're
thrilled the Yankees Dodgers. We'll see what's going to happen.
Dodgers are a scary team. But I was thinking about

(00:37):
it and I said to myself, I said, you know,
there was an extended period of time because the Yankees
haven't been in the World Series since two thousand and nine. Now,
growing up, I was a Yankees fan, and they went
an extended period of time before making the World Series
as well, and they made it back after I guess
what was it, nineteen eighty to nineteen ninety six. Again,

(01:01):
I was a young whipper snapper in New York at
that time, and I was thrilled the Yankees back in
the World Series nineteen ninety six, I got a chance
to go to one of the games, sitting in the
upper deck, and I said, you know what, right, let's
play with the inflation calculator. Let's go back to nineteen
ninety six, and we're going to do the World Series

(01:23):
edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Nineteen ninety
six to twenty twenty four. So you can do it
if you'd like. You can pull up the inflation calculator.
This is a government calculator. Okay, Type in a million dollars,
Type in a million dollars four today, October October twenty

(01:46):
twenty four. Well, it had the same buying power back
in nineteen ninety six. Nineteen ninety six, a million dollars
million dollars today was worth five.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Hundred thousand dollars back then. Half half.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Who Wants to be a Millionaire? I mean again, they'd
have to redo the television. It'd have to be Who
Wants to Be a Multi Millionaire?

Speaker 3 (02:16):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Half a million dollars today was worth half as much
in nineteen ninety six as it was today. That, my friends,
is inflation. It's interesting too. Let's just go back over
the past few years and I'm gonna I'll do two. Okay,

(02:39):
I'll do the government numbers, government numbers. If you haven't,
if your income over the past four years hasn't risen
by twenty three percent, you are poorer today than you
were four years ago. Now that's the government numbers, the
more realistic numbers.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
That's again where I'm taking into account things that we
have to spend on an everyday basis. I mean, how
often do you have to go out and buy a
new television set for crying out loud?

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Uh, it's more along the line of thirty five percent.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
So you want Markowski investments, and we want to trust
Markowski's numbers of the government numbers.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
So but four years ago, Okay, if.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
You have not, if you're not making thirty five percent
more today than you were four years ago, you've gone backwards.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
You haven't gone forwards.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Watchdog on Wallstreet dot com and yeah, let's go Yankees.
