Chris critiques New York City’s new congestion pricing, emphasizing its impact on residents and workers. He discusses how these tolls, which start at $9, will eventually rise and disproportionately burden workers and businesses, contributing to inflation. Markowski also critiques the governance and taxation policies of blue states like New York, tying them to long-standing liberal leadership.
He reminds residents that choosing to live in such high-tax areas comes with predictable challenges and jokes about the irony of some complaining about policies they should have expected. www.watchdogonwallstreet.com

Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Watchdog on Wall Street podcast explaining the news coming
out of the complex worlds of finance, economics, and politics
and the impact it we'll have on everyday Americans. Author,
investment banker, consumer advocate, analyst, and trader Chris Markowski.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Congestion cry babies, Oh it's started, Stop me up. Congestion,
congestion tolls, taxes first in the country. Won't be the last,
won't be the last. Started up in New York, and
many New Yorkers are none too happy stories New York posts. Here.

(00:40):
There number finding people. Here's one here. Upper East Side
restaurant resident lives on sixty first Street and Fifth Avenue.
That's a very very expensive neighborhood. It's called a congestion
relief zone. That's where if you go in now during
normal hours, it's nine bucks whack. That doesn't even include

(01:01):
the cost of the bridges to get in. He says
that the second he moves his car, he's hit with
a toll. His kids live on seventy ninth Street, and
he will have to pay congestion price every single time
he goes to see them. Walk Buddy walk. It's it's

(01:21):
not even a mile, not even a mile. What was you.
You live on Fifth Avage And again I can't even
believe they're talking to a guy on Fifth Avenue. What
about the people that you know, the workers that have
to go in and out, Well, what are they gonna do?
They're gonna have to start passing those costs on down
to their customers and get Yes, of course this is inflationary.

(01:45):
I own you guys are confused. What side of you
on on this? Mark? How'ski? You're for the pricing? Are
enough for the pricing? Listen? Of course I'm against it.
But what I'm also against is people whining and complaining. Okay,
you live in New York City. You live in New
York City, one of the most expensive places to live

(02:08):
in the entire world, run by liberals, run by liberals,
all but New York liberals. What did you think was
gonna happen? What did you think your taxes were gonna
ever go down? Even when fake Republican Michael Bloomberg was there,

(02:31):
I mean he had his crazy You know, I gotta
put Kolara content on everything, and you can't have any
big Gulf sodas and take salt off to I mean,
you know where you live. Why are you surprised by this.
You know it was funny, was the governor Kathy Hokeel.
Kathy Hochel actually came out and gave a statement said

(02:53):
she's saving residence money. Saving residence money because it was
supposed to be fifty dollars and it's nine. And believe me,
it will eventually be fifteen dollars. There's no doubt about it.
I get a kick out of that. I got a kick.
I tease my wife sometimes she's like, you know, buy
something and brings it to Oh, look at all the

(03:14):
money I saved. It was on sale. I was like, really,
you want to give me the money that you saved. Anyway,
she's gonna get mad if she's listening to that. But yeah, okay,
So Kathy Holkel says that she is putting money back
in people's pockets even though she's taking money from them.
But again, again the not very deep thinker out there

(03:37):
might buy into this. Again, this is money for the MTA. Okay,
the trains and subways and ferry boats and all that stuff. Meanwhile,
there's perpetual violence on the subways. It never goes away
because again they just let wackos go. You know, latest

(03:58):
you got another knife wielding mate. Yeah, he had eighty
seven priors. Eighty seven prior. I get, how does one
actually even get you eighty seven priors. They'd just let
them go violent offenses. Yeah, start slicing people up on
the subway again. You chose to live there, You chose

(04:22):
to live there. Well, and I know people said, well,
you live there too.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
I know, I know.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
But guess what. Guess what. I didn't bitch and complain. Okay,
I didn't bitch and complain, knowing I knew exactly where
I was living, and I knew exactly what my exit
strategy was. When Donald Trump again this, I'll tie in
the uh salt deduction. When Donald Trump lowered the the

(04:51):
deduction for state and local taxes, put a cap on
it to ten thousand dollars, that smacked me up side
my head. That was a major tax increase due to
the twenty seventeen tax at and I didn't have a
problem with it because it was fair. It's fair. Yeah,

(05:13):
you got Republicans in the state of New York. Oh no,
I gotta raise his back up. And I get it
they're preaching to their districts. But let's be honest here, Okay,
Why should the rest of the country subsidize the fact
that the cost of living and taxes are sky high
in states like New York, Illinois, California, Massachusetts, wherever it

(05:34):
may be. Why do you get a deduction? Why do
you get a deduction for money taxes that you sent
to your state. I live in a state right now
no income tax, So I get it. Listen the guys
that are complaining, and I mean, what did you think

(05:56):
was have you ever you know, pointing me in a
point in time where tolls went down, taxes went down,
regulations went down, property taxes went down in these blue states?
Did you know this was gonna happen? You know? The
funny thing is this is you know, way way way
back in the day, is when to drive into the

(06:19):
city from queens after I got married, there's a bridge
is the Queensborough Bridge, you know, coming from Long Island
City Astoria area into Manhattan, and that bridge is no tolls,
no tolls on this bridge. And I knew. I said,
at some point in time they can all out, They're

(06:41):
going to have to start either putting a toll booth
on it. Well, they figured it out with the congestion
pricing the bridge you get off or the fifty ninth
Street bridge. You get off at the fifty ninth Street bridge. Okay,
even even if you go to you want to go uptown,

(07:02):
you want to go to the right, You're in the
congestion zone for one block. So they get you for
nine bucks. So they solve that toll problem. So now
everybody pays. But again, you got to understand people like
you know, know your your environment nowhere you I mean,
come on, what did you think was going to happen?
